All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. Can Kay trust her sister or is history repeating itself? There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing.

Starting point is 00:01:00 How do you feel about this, kids? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white in print. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. It's right here in black and white in print.
Starting point is 00:01:24 It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In California during the summer of 1975, within the span of 17 days and less than 90 miles, two women did something no other woman had done before, try to assassinate the President of the United States. One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nickname Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer this season on the new podcast, Rip Current. Hear episodes of Rip Current early and completely ad-free and receive exclusive bonus content by subscribing to iHeart True Crime Plus only on Apple Podcasts. Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of I'm not trying to ruin anybody's trend or be funny or give them the worst zeit of their job ever but i'm just asking do any of these faxers ever come down from the ceiling and have a worthless cum shop that is courtesy who's that courtesy oh my god
Starting point is 00:02:38 i love it the super toe the super toe that is for all the uh I think you should leave fans out there. The haunted house sketch. One of the greats. I'm Jack. You are Miles. I said it. Whoops. Whoops. Oh boy. World's upside down today. Let's tell the people
Starting point is 00:03:00 what's trending, shall we? Gabby Petito is trending. She was on a cross country trip with her boyfriend they were blogging it up uh everybody was you know saying they they seemed like the happiest like of travel bloggers and then the boyfriend returned to florida without her um and she hasn't been seen since and the boyfriend is not cooperating with police so it's one of those yikes it's one of those yeah that's i don't know i mean i've watched enough dateline that's usually not a good sign yeah this is the second of today's
Starting point is 00:03:43 or i guess tomorrow's episode. Also, we talk true crime, but there's some wild true crime shit happening. And yeah, in the zeitgeist. And I hope she's not actually disappeared. I know the story is wild because like there was also another like camping couple who disappeared both of them, like after texting their friend that like a weird guy was camping next to them and then they were found uh slain uh like days later so uh it's very very strange lots of um uh travel influencer killings happening unfortunately
Starting point is 00:04:23 don't tell like city boy miles that as a child about getting murdered at a campsite. I don't think I would have ever left the city. Yeah. Or I'd like to get murdered normally in this city on concrete. Anyways, I stand with Nikki. Okay, what else? It's just a statement I'm saying. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:04:41 You've been saying it all day. Oh, look at that. It's also trending. Oh, look. 20,000 other tweets agree with me huh miles maybe you should really think about that you should take another look uh at the science do your own research we're like in day 5,000 of big ball gate uh because of the nikki minaj tweet and i think now it's just more this is now turned into a culture war thing
Starting point is 00:05:02 and now you see a lot of those avatars wearing the wraparound shades and the selfie inside of a pickup truck suddenly are now uh barbies yeah they're all now barbs a really interesting evolution for them but yeah i mean it's just continuing it's just a lot of back and forth it's like anything when something like this trends where it's half like people being sincere and then mostly the other people just like dunking on them so right um but it still it continues to just sort of gain momentum and more and more people are like starting to be like i i stand with her because she's telling people to not be bullied. But yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:51 And this is Tucker Carlson's opportunity to not seem racist and other, other people. He's really, and that's why he's really going for it. And his show, he keeps bringing up stuff like this is a moment for left and right to realize the human dignity. And he thinks that he can use the strength of her profile uh to like try and like create more momentum to get more people who might be nikki minaj fans to
Starting point is 00:06:13 come around to tucker carlson's side of the town yeah uh fortunately her fans she doesn't have like very strong or like you know strongly willed fans they're all pretty kind of laid back so i'm sure they'll just yeah let this one lie yeah it's it's super chill i mean there's like there are rumors that people think like on twitter people are saying that there are like nikki fans outside the cdc in atlanta okay yeah no her fans got a lot of energy, a lot of love for Nikki. Yeah. We'll see where this very silly story takes us. Yeah. Possibly in a very dangerous direction. Newsmax is trending.
Starting point is 00:06:54 When are they not? You know, these folks always coming up with a new way to bring the news to the max, baby. bring the news to the max, baby. They cut off a veteran who actually knows what's happening in Afghanistan because he knows what's happening in Afghanistan and that kind of contradicts their whole thing. Yeah, this moment is very, very on the nose for Newsmax
Starting point is 00:07:21 because they're like, we're so against the truth in this rabid way that if you start saying like a collection of words that make sense, we're just going to shut you down. And that's exactly what happened when Grant Stinchfield really went off on this veteran for merely stating things he's observed as someone who served in the military. And so I've got Americans there that are stuck. To me, that's a hostage situation.
Starting point is 00:07:47 But Joe, I appreciate you working to get them out. I really do. And I wish you all the best. With due respect, Grant, I mean, like veterans, you know, being one, right, and our friends are over there. We follow this closely from multiple administrations. And we know the Trump administration's efforts here were fairly weak, that they were trying to limit the number of people that would get out. And so there was coordination problems for a long time.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Joe, I'm going to cut you off. I'm already weak. I'm already low on time, Joe. Joe, cut him off, please. Cut him off now. Cut him off now. You're not going to blame this on President Trump on my show. That's not happening.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Now, I appreciate the work that you're doing god bless you for being a veteran god bless you for trying to get americans out but don't come on this program and take the talking point to the left and blame president trump that's not helping anybody uh-huh okay man so uh yeah so slam dunk the the veteran was just saying that it's a pro it's been a problem for a while multiple generations multiple administrations and it went away when trump was in office no no not then it was the greatest time ever cut him off cut him off it was kind of revealing how quickly he went from all right yeah okay yeah no i guess just get him out um talk about my dad on this show he's a cop uh all right fuck let's take a quick break and we'll be right back
Starting point is 00:09:17 senora sex ed is not your mommy sex talk. This show is La Platica like you've never heard it before. We're breaking the stigma and silence around sex and sexuality in Latinx communities. This podcast is an intergenerational conversation between Latinas from Gen X to Gen Z. We're covering everything from body image to representation in film and television. We even interview iconic Latinas like Puerto Rican actress Ana Ortiz. I felt in control of my own physical body and my own self. I was on birth control. I had sort of had my first sexual experience.
Starting point is 00:10:00 If you're in your señora era or know someone who is, then this is the show for you. We're your hosts, Diosa and Mala. If you're in your señora era or know someone who is, then this is the show for you. We're your hosts, Diosa and Mala, and you might recognize us from our flagship podcast, Locatora Radio. We're so excited for you to hear our brand new podcast, Señora Sex Ed. Listen to Señora Sex Ed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Dr. Laurie Santos, host of the Happiness Lab podcast. As the U.S. elections approach, it can feel like we're angrier and more divided than ever.
Starting point is 00:10:37 But in a new, hopeful season of my podcast, I'll share what the science really shows, that we're surprisingly more united than most people think. We all know something is wrong in our culture, in our politics, and that we need to do better and that we can do better. With the help of Stanford psychologist Jamil Zaki. It's really tragic. If cynicism were a pill, it'd be a poison. We'll see that our fellow humans, even those we disagree with, are more generous than we assume.
Starting point is 00:11:01 My assumption, my feeling, my hunch, is that a lot of us are actually looking for a way to disagree and still be in a relationship with each other. All that on the Happiness Lab. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close
Starting point is 00:11:45 to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, fam. I'm Simone Boyce. I'm Danielle Robay. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Like our recent episode with Grammy award-winning rapper Eve on her new memoir and the moments that made her. It became a theme in my life, the underdog syndrome of being questioned, of the, would they say this to a man? No, they would not. Like, why?
Starting point is 00:12:56 That was one of those moments where you're just like, oh, wow. It was a bit shocking, but it didn't take any steam away or anything like that. If anything, it was more of the, i'll show you no worries listen to the bright side from hello sunshine on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and we're back and tom hanks is trending because he has a new movie poster that he that has debuted it's called finch great tom hanks character name and it appears to be an apple original wherein he is trying to like protect his dog it's the apocalypse there's a big robot behind him and you know there's a there's a long standing rule in movies that dogs are the thing you don't fuck with uh right like can have somebody be killed but not the dog like the dog has to
Starting point is 00:14:08 but not the dog like the dog has to run out after the entire uh city of houston is annihilated by the aliens in uh independence day and like prove that it's okay the dog made it a lot of outrage and uh i am legend you know yeah yeah exactly too much that's why i had a friend walk out wow mid mid viewing uh when that scene happened. And I was like, really? And it's why John Wick makes sense as a movie. It's because it kind of uses... He did what? He kills hundreds of people.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Well, yeah. Shoot them all in their heads multiple times. Okay, cool. We figured it out, baby. But yeah, this is interesting. the way amblin talks about it uh you know steven spielberg's production company said tom hanks is finch the head of an unlikely family on a journey to rediscover the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive and so i guess his family is robot and dog um i can see you know how what the i can tell what the message
Starting point is 00:15:03 is going to be but it feels a little grim right now people are already kind of feeling like it's the apocalypse but sure i guess tom hanks can make me feel warm about it yeah what a voice on that guy you know yeah um i could just i wonder if chet does he does he is he oh is he the voice of the Jamaican robot? Bumbleclot! Bitch! He's like, sorry, nepotism, y'all. I had to do something for my kid. I had to do it to him.
Starting point is 00:15:35 There are times when I'm reading books to my kids where I'm like, God, I wish Tom Hanks was reading this instead. He would really nail this. He's got one of those voices that like exists between like not too bassy but has enough like high tones to it that it feels like whimsical too so much feeling yeah yeah well uh we've got a new development in the jeopardy saga so ken jennings uh who was basically like trebek's chosen like successor to the point that he left the cufflinks that he wore on camera for every episode to Ken Jennings, like clearly being like, I want Ken Jennings to replace me.
Starting point is 00:16:18 But he didn't say it. Right. I'm sure there's like the logic there. It's like, but he gave him the, he didn't give you the cufflinks. Right. He probably would have if he knew me more if he knew me anyways uh now that the mike richards i think his name has been replaced they are going to give ken jennings the old one year try so we'll see i'm excited you know he seems like he uh knows all the answers so that's
Starting point is 00:16:47 uh i know what if he starts really taking on a new like direction as host he's like all right and uh like this question blah blah blah someone answers like fucking idiot are you serious no dude it's what is cannibal wow okay um anyone else want to fucking embarrass themselves really yeah ken what are you doing it's like i'm the best at this shit remember i'm the best yeah he's really insecure about it i mean that is how like a lot of great like athletes are that like they just can't get over i guess because they lose their gifts with time. So then they like automatically get insecure as they get older. But so this is still like, it's like having 98 or 97 Michael Jordan,
Starting point is 00:17:29 like constantly still just calling games, but in that same shape, I can only imagine who is, I am that. Yeah. You think you are? I am. What?
Starting point is 00:17:42 I'm sorry. I need to look that. I don't think we should have kids jeopardy again he said fuck them kids really loud and everyone in the audience heard who do you think you are i am that is one of the great just brains firing on uh no cylinders just because of pure masculine adrenaline yeah uh and finally uh cnn at one point during their broadcast of the california election results accidentally had the total vote for the recall race in the yes column giving an extra 350 000 votes to the yeses because they they just put put all votes in the S column. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:30 And, of course, this is the sort of just natural error typo that is bound to happen that is going to be seized on by the right to prove probably like in a loose change style video that the Democrats cheated the election. Right. But if you're watching any other network, you wouldn't have seen that. Right. But anyway. Well, but CNN's in on it.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Oh, right, right, right, right. Come on, man. My heart goes out to people watching that. Yeah. All right. Those are some of the things that are trending this afternoon. We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. We will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years. I have a proposal for you.
