Starting point is 00:00:34 and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white and prints. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I am Lacey Lamar. And I'm also Lacey Lamar. Just kidding. I'm Amber Reffin.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Okay, everybody, we have exciting news to share. We're back with season two of the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network. This season, we make new friends, deep dive into my steamy DMs, answer your listener questions, and more. The more is punch each other. Listen to the Amber and Lacey Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Just listen, okay?
Starting point is 00:01:32 Or Lacey gets it. Do it. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of I've Seen a Million Trends, and I've rocked them all. Cool. That is courtesy of blinky heck and uh konnichiwa uh oh konnichiwa uh spelled in uh not the way that i think it's usually spelled uh on the discord and um yeah grok is yeah been Finally learned what that meant. The literary, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Shout out to that gang. Shout out to Andrew. Guys, yeah. Hey, stupid ass. Means understand. Hey, dipshit. You grok. Yeah, but it's yet another example of Twitter.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Cool. I'm Jack. That's Miles. Yep. And these are some of the things that are trending. There may be a cure for morning sickness. Okay. Scientists have finally figured out what causes morning sickness.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Feels like one of those things that would have been figured out a while back, but for the patriarchy. But they've finally figured out what causes it. People experience morning sickness during pregnancy because according to a new study there's a surge in a hormone called gdf 15 during the first trimester yeah get the fuck out of my body 15 15 times 15 it's i mean the morning sickness is not i one of my homegirls she had to go on fucking disability yes because her morning sickness was so debilitating um so yeah i mean i'm it is interesting that i guess like you're saying why why do it take so long to figure these things out we've we've like treat uh curing baldness and erectile dysfunction like it is the race for
Starting point is 00:03:33 a nuclear weapon you know it's like the manhattan project for those two projects for us to live on yeah exactly um make dick hard bring hairline back yeah also we didn't know where that a snake had a clitoris till like a year ago Exactly. Make dick hard, bring hairline back. Also, we didn't know that a snake had a clitoris until like a year ago. But this is, yeah, it's a big deal. Like nausea and vomiting affect about 80% of people during pregnancy, around 2% experience an extreme form of morning sickness,
Starting point is 00:04:03 which sounds like your friend might have suffered from. That can lead to weight loss, dehydration, and even hospitalization. It just... It's so brutal. Bed time to be sick. You know? You're like, wake up! Your feet hit the
Starting point is 00:04:20 floor and you're like, oh shit. And I'm absolutely fucked. Hey, sperm guy what how's it been for you i don't know i just did that one part what what do you mean why do you feel bad hey what's wrong you like drink a lot or something are you fucking for real did i drink or something oh i don't know so you're like all sick i don't know i hate hungovers um this is also the most reliable way to know someone is pregnant in a movie oh yeah so i don't know what filmmakers are going to do from that point from this point forward if they do find a way to treat this by the way this is not they have not this is
Starting point is 00:04:59 just hope that they could lead to this could lead to a treatment because also you have to be very careful when it comes to um creating medicine for people who are in early pregnancy which tends to be when morning sickness hits the hardest um my dumb ass thought it was a baby in there probably pushing on your stomach and that's why you got morning sickness baby probably i'm sorry this is a goat on me from inside yeah but in retrospect that doesn't make any fucking sense because it is uh it's usually very early in pregnancy that's also because like yeah men do not experience a ton of hormones hitting your body and yeah just throwing everything out of whack. That's why I was like, you what?
Starting point is 00:05:46 You alright? What's your fucking problem? Do you need ginger ale? That'll probably help. Oh, hell yeah, ginger ale. That always works for me. Okay, for you, dumbass. I do think we can probably, at this point,
Starting point is 00:06:03 guarantee that there will never be a hangover cure because that does affect men. And I feel like they would have come up with a cure by now if it was physically possible. I mean, Asia is definitely on the cutting edge of trying to figure out how to not feel the pain of binge drinking. the pain of binge drinking because there are a lot like in japan and korea there are a lot of like pre-blackout drinks you can have that like swear it will like you know help you safely land the plane of your liver the next day wow but like but you have to drink it before you get blacked out yeah yeah exactly oh yeah well then yes uh on. And then maybe invent time travel. Yeah, maybe I'll do that in the women's room in secret at the bar.
Starting point is 00:06:50 All right, dude? Right? What the fuck? But, yeah, I mean, there have been some partially effective therapies in the past, but people are often reluctant to take them due to the lack of scientific understanding of the disorder and also a fear of, like we said, using medication in pregnancy. So... step one achieved step one there we go yep identify the source all right uh people are putting out tiktok trends of 2023 thought we'd take a look through those um because we didn't get to them in our year in
Starting point is 00:07:18 review episode which is coming uh later this year when we're off but of course for tiktok trends this year we got girl dinner yep girl dinner was everywhere is even i saw it in a fucking ad for like weight watchers too like it's oh no it's been fully co-opted by corporate marketing so that's that's when you know you've reached new heights when right yeah the marketing room at a at a company is like oh yeah the grill grill dinner at real quick yeah um it did inspire discussions about topics like what is healthy eating and the culture around disordered eating in winter as well as like new derivatives of the trend including musical parodies and boy dinner which everybody you don't want boy dinner so you want boy dinner look i'll tell you right now it's called hummus and eggs
Starting point is 00:08:12 that's boy those pair perfectly my god i ate that shit once i was like fuck here we go hummus and eggs slob buffet can use the eggs as like the thing you dip in the hummus yeah kind of amazing yeah just pop it it's not good it was not good acting like you're in a wes anderson film uh this one i was always just like damn y'all are like good filmmakers like some of them really fucking net like that that, that's not an easy thing to pull off this, uh, TikToker Ava Williams, uh, just did like her commute to work, like the train she takes to work in New York, but like through the lens of a Wes Anderson film and it was really well done.
Starting point is 00:08:59 And so, I mean, I feel like, I mean, it, it, to do it well is definitely a feat, but like, I think just the rule of thumb is just look for symmetry in every single shot. That's all you need. Don't load your characters to the right or left of the frame. They got to be center framed and make sure there's all that symmetry in the camera. And then you've got Wes Anderson. Do you know the Where's My Dad audio clip? No, I don't.
Starting point is 00:09:24 I missed this one because it's something i say out loud all the time just blend it in background yeah of course man where's my dad um but so it's an audio clip that originated with this kind of terrifying community theater production of finding Nemo where the Nemo like paper mache puppet is being operated by this young child. Um, and the puppet, it looks dead. It's just not a,
Starting point is 00:09:54 not a well executed rendering. And also the person is operating the puppet, you know, the, the rule of like puppeteering that I had always kind of taken for granted. What, when watching a puppet show is that you wear like black and kind of
Starting point is 00:10:09 stay in the background and like kind of blend in. He's just wearing a red t-shirt and the lighting is such that he's just as noticeable as, as the, uh, barely moving Nemo puppet that he's holding. Let's see. i just want to see where's my dad okay all right i'm in you got involved in there um you got me kid it's kind
Starting point is 00:10:39 of interesting because like the thing that is striking about the thing is like how weird the puppet is and like his like he's he's got a good voice but then it just like the audio just got stripped from that because everybody heard that and it like kind of got stuck in their head and people it's how the ticking and the talking works how the ticking and the talking that audio baby in these modern times and then of course uh the trend that we might have had a little something. I think we started it. We started it. We started it.
Starting point is 00:11:10 We started this shit. That's all facts. 100% facts. Grimace come milkshake. Yep. We knew. What do you mean? We knew.
Starting point is 00:11:16 You know, we are the fucking ocular receptors. We see it, and then we send the signal to the brain that is culture that says, something ain't right here. Something's not right with this grimace milkshake and and it is that it is grimaces come it's grimaces come obviously and it will turn you into a murderer so i mean thank you for yes anding that the internet um obviously because that that took it to places even oh man beautifully beautifully executed uh some of the best horror filmmaking that i saw this year a lot of people were like it was kind of a weird like movie kind of an off year for uh horror films and that's because the genius of the collective consciousness was being used on
Starting point is 00:11:58 tiktok to make grimace come milkshake viral clips uh all right let's take a quick break we'll come back and talk some more trends of the year 2023 we'll be right back how do you feel about biscuits hi i'm akilah hughes and i'm so excited about my new podcast rebel spirit where i head back to my hometown in kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot the the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the Biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County Rebels with the image of the Biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. A lion. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Why would we want to be the losing team? I'd just take all the other stuff out of it. Segregation academies. When civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. bigger than a flag or mascot.
Starting point is 00:13:04 You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning. In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron, and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church, and then a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse,
Starting point is 00:14:05 if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre. It doesn't
Starting point is 00:14:22 get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha librere. It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha Libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha Libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask,
Starting point is 00:14:35 a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of lucha libre and a wwe superstar join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the united states to how it became a global symbol of mexican culture we'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring this is lucha libre behind the mask listen to lucha libre behind the mask
Starting point is 00:15:06 as part of my cultura podcast network on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you stream podcasts and we're back and you know there's a lot of a lot of talk about a certain film that took the world by storm in July. And I'm, of course, talking about Sound of Freedom. Or as Donald Trump calls it, you guys have freedom. Did he? Yeah, he said that thing to try and, you know, just sort of conjure up the demon of human trafficking that is actually missing the point of actually harmful human trafficking uh but yeah a fictionalized account of the true story of somebody who is a human like has there's some uh wild accusations that came out about the person who that is supposedly based on um oh yeah
Starting point is 00:16:00 and now everybody is distancing themselves from that guy. Tim Ballard. I think is his name completely. They're like, Oh, Timmy B. No, no, not him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:09 And it also, yeah, just get some horrible information out there about what human trafficking actually looks like. Um, and they do not want to know or share information about what it actually is. Uh, they want it to be no no that your children
Starting point is 00:16:25 are in danger if you let people into the country or something i don't know um anyways uh this is your list of worst conservative movies yeah this is a list of uh bad conservative movies from our writer jm just kind of going through because sound of freedom you might be like uh yeah from from that film's success because it did uh duboffo bo i think it was like top close to the top 10 or maybe in the top 10 uh also domestic bo remember it was a total like full-on i guess psyop where people were just buying fucking tickets and like just show up yeah you gotta pay for it right and i know somebody who fell for that shit and i had to fucking yell at them to be like why'd you go they said it was free when i went to the movie theater i'm like you're okay wow yeah i didn't
Starting point is 00:17:15 realize it was that like i because i do know people who went like as a you know as a journalistic excursion to see it and they did say like the theaters were crowded like they there were a lot of people there yeah yeah i'm sure many though i mean like i said it was like it was like you know when books are on the bestseller list it's like someone's buying them already but not to say that people didn't go see it that's why i was like surprised when someone i knew who's not it was not like a right-wing, they're just not terminally online, that they were like, yeah, I don't know, it was this free movie, and it wasn't that great.
Starting point is 00:17:50 I'm like, yeah, because it's a fucking weird propaganda piece. There's also, so that was not the only conservative movie. Do not be fooled into thinking conservatives have learned how to make movies, and now, and Hollywood is scared. They also released
Starting point is 00:18:08 Lady Ballers, which is a movie written, directed, and headlined by Daily Wire's CEO, Jeremy Boring, and featuring an appearance by former Daily Wire editor Ben Shapiro, and it is
Starting point is 00:18:23 just very bad, and nobody went to see it nobody saw it wasn't it the thing that he tried to start off as like a documentary it could and then and then he was like damn it the and then the facts aren't cohering to what i want to say here this thing isn't actually real oh well then i guess i'll just make a ribald comedy. Yeah. So the premise is that you just declare, I'm girl, and then you can enter the WNBA. So
Starting point is 00:18:53 fucking stupid. I also love that even the reviews from the Catholic World Report are not even like, I don't know, man, this movie kind of sucks. Yeah. Um,
Starting point is 00:19:07 if high-fiving fellow Patriots, gender traditionalists, and God fears is the point, then the daily wire film succeeds. But if the goal is making a quality film that transformed the culture, then it is a disappointing first effort. Signed the Pope. Signed El Pope.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Uh, my son Hunter, I, we covered, but that did come out this year that was bright part hunter biden biopic uh directed by robert davi davi um he's that guy from he's one of the fbi guys from die hard and also one of the brothers from the fratelli crime family and goonies yeah he has gone off his rocker and is a conservative weirdo now or maybe he always was you know just it just took time for back then it was like yeah man right on brother Right on, brother. Reagan. Am I right? Well. He's an actor, too. But yeah, it's that didn't make that big of a splash. Yeah, they really wanted it to. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Then, of course, we got Left Behind Rise of the Antichrist, which is the first Left Behind movie to be written and directed by Kevin Sorbo. Hell yeah, dude dude we need our rapture content yeah um in the trailer there's one part where sorbo asks who can we trust and someone answers trust god and hell yeah that's right um so i don't know dude nefarious which sounds when i when i saw that there was a movie called Nefarious made by the right, I was like, oh shit, I saw that one,
Starting point is 00:20:49 right? Like, or I saw like trailers for that one. And that's insidious. They just like took a word. They just figured out, they focus. They got a thesaurus.
Starting point is 00:20:57 And we're like, okay, so what else, what else did Nefarious we could try? Um, but yeah, it's just a just a Christian film that is marketed
Starting point is 00:21:08 to mainstream audiences as a standard horror movie and then it serves as a Christian allegory and is conveyed with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer according to Media Matters. Hey, they're doing their best. Netflix just dropped a list
Starting point is 00:21:24 of the most watched things from the first half of 2023. They're trying to get in on this year-end thing. Why can't they just hit us with it all? I don't know, Miles. It's a great question. Why is it portioned out? The whole thing is so weird.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Yeah. It's very strange because also they released it as an like downloadable excel spreadsheet and it goes all the way to the bottom like it goes from how many rows are there if they it would have made it would have made sense if they were like here are the 10 most watched things right from, uh, goes down to row. Let's see here. Still scrolling at 17,500. No.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Uh, yeah, yeah. It goes down to, they're flooding the zone with shit, dude. Yeah. It goes down to 18,220.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Uh, fuck. Yeah. Wow. Okay. Okay. Don't, I don't know what I'm going to do with all of that data it's more like all right well who fucking who wins who won on netflix yeah the night agent season one uh was the big the big winner viewed uh 812 million hours jesus yeah uh i don't really like i i noticed that wednesday came out and that was like one two three four five or fourth it was fourth on their list yeah um so many of these i
Starting point is 00:22:58 did not see like yeah it's so weird how netflix works like it'll show you shit that it thinks you're fucking with and then there there's one of these top shows that it didn't show you at all, or maybe you missed because you're not on Netflix every day. Because of these, I saw Wednesday. I saw Queen Charlotte, a Bridgerton story. Caught that one on the plane recently. And nothing else.
Starting point is 00:23:24 I saw Outer Banks Season season one but not the rest wow you didn't how did you resist the siren call of seasons two two and three i don't know i don't know dude i'm just not down with the obx like i used to be beef came in at number 17 with a pretty sturdy 221 million hours viewed. That's a lot of hours. I do think these shows are entering the cultural bloodstream more than we probably realize because everybody seems to have Netflix. As we've talked about, Netflix just like won the whole fucking yeah won the whole thing and the second the second you have other media companies being like licensing their shit back to you even though they started their own streamer i think that's you can just
Starting point is 00:24:15 just tell them that was an l for us yeah here you go just take maybe you distribute this shit. Extraction 2 appears to be the top movie coming in at number 22. It's up there with 201 million hours viewed. But it seems kind of low compared to what they've claimed movies were, how much movies were watched in the past. Right. For a second, I was like, what about,
Starting point is 00:24:42 remember when everyone said Bright was the biggest movie that year? Yeah. With Will Smith. And then I was like what about remember when like everyone said bright was like the that like the biggest movie that year yeah with will smith and then i was like what happened to bright too i didn't realize last year is like it's been canceled yeah yeah we're not gonna won't be doing that um that guy is a monster is that from slap fest wait when was slap fest was that this year slap fest keep my wife's name out your fucking mouth oh that was two years ago oh yeah it was 22 oh that's oh shit they say oh so the the cancellation of bright two happened right after the slap and it has nothing to do with the slap okay okay okay too much too much lifting to get this movie yeah for sure yeah but i think they said like that one
Starting point is 00:25:25 was viewed a hundred million times and if you look at the hours viewed on extraction two it appears that like their top movie of this year was viewed a hundred million times i'm being told it was incorrect uh the the mother coming in in the top you know 12 or 13 is actually the number one movie that is a 2023 american action thriller starring jennifer lopez as a mother who is a u.s army operative who partners with an fbi agent to rescue her teenage daughter after she is kidnapped by criminals. This movie was viewed as much as Avatar based on these numbers
Starting point is 00:26:12 and I did not realize it existed. What the fuck? I didn't even know there was a... Completely have no idea. I was blindsided by this. There's a J-Lo movie on Netflix about her murking people yeah wow while fleeing from dangerous assailants an assassin comes out of hiding to protect her daughter whom she left earlier in life had no idea you had no idea okay
Starting point is 00:26:36 well netflix you've done it again yeah i mean i guess if you look at the number of minutes it was streamed, it would be like $150 million of the box office, which is like a sizable hit. But instead, it is hidden under a bunch of shit. Yeah, I like how Variety is even questioning it. They're like, was Jennifer Lopez's The Mother one of 2023's biggest movies? Really? lopez's the mother one of 2023's biggest movies really netflix's gigantic new viewing report shows absurd engagement levels interesting right absurd yeah okay okay all right well those are some of the things that are trending on this wednesday december 13, we are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show. A real banger with one of your favorites, Blair Sotner.
Starting point is 00:27:29 One of ours. Yeah. One of yours. One of ours. So we will talk to you all then. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Bye. How do you feel about biscuits?
