Starting point is 00:00:34 and the applause fades and the screaming fans move on? I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. For some former NFL players, a new faith provides answers. You mix homesteading with guns and church. Voila! You got straightway.

Starting point is 00:01:26 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. We're back and it's a new year and we're just about halfway through the NBA season and players are putting up numbers that come straight off the PlayStation, Sega Genesis, what have you. He's
Starting point is 00:01:41 on fire as well. Quite literally in some instances. It's the only video game I know. And we're going to get into the state of the Bucs, Lucas Brilliance, and Brooklyn's huge leap with comedian and podcaster and overall legend, Garrett Reynolds. On today's episode, I'm Miles Gray. And I'm Jack O'Brien. And this is Miles and Jack at Madboosties.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Let's not delay. We got none other than Mr. Gareth Reynolds in the building. He's got a new special, England, Weed, and the Rest, on YouTube. Big Bucks fan, but you haven't been able to watch too much because you've been on the road, huh, Gareth? Welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. I'm co-host of the dollop i think that goes without saying for those who are not literate in the way of podcast yep the dollop
Starting point is 00:02:30 and uh you can watch my special you can go to my website and there's a special button gareth reynolds.com i hate being that promotey but that's what i'm supposed to do but uh yeah i haven't been able to watch that much but everything ever i I'm like, most games that I've watched, Giannis has not played or Middleton hasn't played. So I haven't really even seen them like, you know, full steam yet. But yeah, I love the Bucs. Wait, so explain your fandom. Are you Milwaukee of Milwaukee?
Starting point is 00:03:04 I am Gareth of Milwaukee is the Game of Thrones way of putting it, of British parents. And yeah, I was, I mean, I'm from a place called Brown Deer. So originally in Milwaukee. And yeah, I mean, I just grew up fully ingratiated into Wisconsin sports, mainly the Bucks and mainly the Packers, but baseball a little bit like the Brewers. But really the Bucs and Packers were my teams growing up. And still are. Those are the two I paid to.
Starting point is 00:03:31 It was great when the Bucs got Giannis. Because all of a sudden I was like, I really will be honest with my fair weatherness. But it's hard to watch if you live in California and you're a Bucs fan for a long time. Nobody was like, let's see how they're doing. Not a lot of primetime televised. Sam Cassell was the guy. You're like, this is not going great. They're like, hey, Glenn Robinson's doing all right, huh, man?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Man, we really... That was my childhood, was hitching my hopes and dreams to Glenn Robinson. Glenn Robinson and Vin Baker. And Vin Baker, yeah. But yeah, so I mean, I just kind of... There's not much going on in Milwaukee. Jack Sigma. You remember Jack Sigma?
Starting point is 00:04:07 Of course. I used to see him at the Ground Round like once a week, which is just like a pay what you weigh restaurant. And I used to see Jack Sigma, who's like enormous. And I'd be a little kid. He would be like, so he was like so warm and nice to me as a little kid. Dude, that guy always looked like a diehard bad guy to me. Yeah, totally.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Like, yeah, either second to die or the guy who comes back at the end. Right. Yeah, yeah. His brother. The guy, second to last guy. Yeah, who's got feet smaller than Bruce Willis' sister. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Unfortunately. That's why Sigma couldn't play that part. He'd be like, Jack, nobody's going to buy that you have a size seven. Yeah. You would be so unstable. This is forecasting. Not again.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I do think he is the best player with my name. As far as I can tell. I think, I think I tried to do research for interesting into that. Yeah. Not, not a ton of like dominant Jack's have a check or no. Yeah. Do we call it John Havlicek? Or no. Yeah. Do we call John Havlicek Jack?
Starting point is 00:05:07 Yeah. Oh, do they? Did they call him that? No, I'm saying do we? You can. Do we stretch it a little bit? Yeah. Let's go with that.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Yeah. John Wall. I call him Jack. Jack Wall. Hey, Jackie Wall. So we do have to talk about Donovan Mitchell putting 71 on him. My main thing that I've taken away from this, because you hear people talk about donovan mitchell putting 71 on him my main thing that i've taken away from this because like you hear people talk about him and refer to him as donnie and that's just i think
Starting point is 00:05:31 i think he needs to outlaw that i think it just needs to be donovan mitchell but you gotta be careful because that's like when big baby was like don't call me big baby everyone was like stick with it honestly we're gonna ignore that you've drooled twice you're a big baby everyone was like eh we're gonna stick with it honestly we're gonna ignore that you've drooled twice you're a big baby yeah you can't fight it i on my podcast everyone calls me gary and it's like sometimes fighting it makes it all worse yeah so it's like i'll do shows sometimes and people will chant gary and i'm like it's really this is like a fire you can't really blank it out easily right because it's only going to encourage them more. But yeah, 70, 71 points.
Starting point is 00:06:09 This is, I don't know the whole, the last what day, three days, there's just been obscene amounts of scoring. We were talking about the amounts of high scoring game or, you know, individual performance of there have been, I just want to read a stat just to kind of set the backdrop to, you know, on top of everything we've seen, like with Luka or Donovan, LeBron, you know, Joker. Okay, so in the 2000s, the entirety of the 2000s, there were only nine 60-point games from players.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Wow. In the 2010s, there were 11 60-point-plus games from players. So far, we've already had nine 60-point games in the 2020s, and we're in 2022, or just entering 2023. And we've had nine already. What is that from? Is that just from the three-point shot becoming so much more relevant? My take on this is so dumb.
Starting point is 00:07:05 It's just like, yeah, they're really good at making shots. The shot making, you hear NBA, like, Zach Lowe, people be like, the shot making's really off the charts. It's like, yeah, they're good at shooting. They're good at making the ball in the basket. They're getting more points. Turns out, when you add them up, the numbers are a lot higher than last time.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Higher than that. Yeah, I don't know if it's like, I also too we were talking with jabari our super producer you know as the game evolves and you know the refereeing tends to benefit higher scoring i think we're just kind of seeing like the the byproduct of those sort of small tweaks you know well more more threes and then more people being able to draw that extra free throw. I mean, not that that just maybe has a cumulative effect, but I mean, that's been one of the harder things to officiate, to get cleaned up, is just that foul on the three, the way that they, like Steph Curry, the way that he's always able to draw those three free throws. I mean, that adds up, you know?
Starting point is 00:08:03 You know how it is the three's been around since the 80s i mean they're they're just they figured out oh that's that's a lot of points we should we should do that and the efficiency that people are doing it like donovan mitchell's 71 came on on 30 like low 30s field goal attempts and it was like the least of anyone in the top low 30s field goal attempts, and it was the least of anyone in the top 35. And didn't he assist on like 94 of the points? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:29 99 of the points. He was either direct... He was directly responsible for it. I mean, that is absolutely... Who's had a better game than that? Will Chamberlain? Kobe? Yeah, Chamberlain. Kobe? Yeah, right, Kobe. This was the highest scoring game since Kobe. Oh, yeah, really? Wow. Yeah, Chamberlain. 80, 81. Yeah, right, Kobe. But this was the highest scoring game since Kobe.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Oh, yeah, really? Wow. Yeah. I remember when the Kobe game happened. I didn't watch it, but I was at the gym, Bally's, Humblebrag, the following day. Things were good. Things were good.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Literal flex. It was the 70s. Things were fine. I was going to say, how many Bally's are left? There's not many. That's how long ago this was. But I mean, I remember I heard a to say, how many rallies are left? There's not many. That's how long ago this was. I remember I heard a guy say it, and I was like, now you have something wrong.
Starting point is 00:09:10 There's a detail you have wrong in how many points he scored. Right. Yeah, yeah. It seems like an error. And same yesterday. 99. Yeah. And then what?
Starting point is 00:09:22 Luka, 60, 50, another 50 on the last 10 days as of this recording like sure yeah lucas was historic because he had 20 something boards where we keep seeing that like in the donovan mitchell game also there was like an intentionally missed free throw that like saved the game for them like it it does feel like there's a glitch in the matrix like so that whatever video game we're watching them play the it's just stuck on like yeah yeah on demo mode or whatever yeah yeah someone's putting in the code that before the loading screen before the game starts and they figured out how to make it constantly on fire but yeah
Starting point is 00:10:05 i mean i think it also you know goes to your point jack like jabari's in the chat saying like it is a you know a confluence of things just the game's progressive people's skill sets are just getting more and more like next level and people have are just so multi-faceted now and shooting is just like we're seeing like i remember you know a few weeks ago we're like why is everyone is shooting so well this year already yeah i still have the same question it's it's wild they i think they've been i don't like i don't like i will not allow it yeah and then what when it didn't the warriors went to double overtime? And Clay put up 50. 50. And what was the final was like 150 to whatever. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:50 It was. Yeah. 143 to 141. I mean, that is absolutely crazy. Yeah. By the way, the Wilt Chamberlain, because we were talking before we started, like, are we going to see another 100 point game? Like, it feels possible now.
Starting point is 00:11:04 It just feels like the shooting is so next level of the shot making trademark uh is just so next level and i don't know like luca luca feels like a good candidate for it but wilt chamberlain's 100 point game his team put up 169 points so that's you know not a lot of teams doing that these days but and here's a dumb question i have no clue but was that word was that game in overtime at all no i don't think so i think that i mean that is just what are you i mean you can't go to another game if you go to that one you're like i'm done i'm retiring put my jacket up in the round i'm out of here i'm not doing this again. Why?
Starting point is 00:11:48 I tried to take my wife to another game. She said the guy didn't score 100 points again. 130, 120. Let's get our money back. This is terrible. Oh, yeah. Also, too, the other thing, before we take a break, the Nets also have been on an
Starting point is 00:12:04 absolute tear since December 4th, 12 straight. Yeah. And there's 16 and one going back to late November. And I just said, man, the highlights of last night were also, oh man,
Starting point is 00:12:17 I don't know. I didn't have as much faith. I don't know. We'll have to go back to the predictions up. So maybe I did predict this. Yeah. Well, we should go back to the predictions episode. Yeah. We did a one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We should go back to the predictions episode.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Yeah. We did a predictions episode and then we revised it every week, Gareth. You have to do that. That's how you stay accurate. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that's the only other option. Yeah, and for all you listening, go back to the episodes. We actually change every single episode if you go back.
Starting point is 00:12:41 That is what Skip Bayless does. Skip Bayless has said everything once and so he was always like i've been telling you forever like now he's like a lebron fan i'm like how have you pivoted how have you been able to pull this off pull the tape up from 2002 non-stop like i can't win but the league's definitely more fun when the nets are good and the nets are absolutely on a tear. I was wondering, because this does feel like, are we seeing the same thing that we saw with the Celtics last year, where they were kind of subpar for a little bit of the season and then put it together?
Starting point is 00:13:18 But I was like, what was the most the Celtics won last year? And nine was the most they won in a row. So 12 is pretty crazy. that's that's that's pretty crazy i know the suns did it at one point 17 i think last year but the nets are the nets are just fun i don't know katie is so fun to watch yeah yeah i mean even killian mbappe was uh in the house watching being like oh there's this one shot where like katie just, you know, hitting the easy jump shot or whatever. And like the way Kylian Mbappe, the soccer players on the sidelines, he was like rubbing his mitts. He's like,
Starting point is 00:13:51 woohoo! Maybe he just like doesn't know that scoring's much more common, you know? This is crazy! Every time someone puts up... Qu'est-ce que c'est? He had 30 hat tricks! You tell him the Will Chamberlain every time someone puts up no he had 30 hat tricks
Starting point is 00:14:07 you tell him the Will Chamberlain stat his head just pops in a confetti it went to poppy alright let's take a quick break we'll come back right after this to talk about some other outstanding performances right after this to talk about some other outstanding performances right after this wake up with football every morning and listen to my new podcast nfl daily with greg rosenthal five days a week you'll get all the latest news previews recaps and analysis delivered straight

Listen to Jimmy's Three Things on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You could also find it on the Talking Baseball YouTube channel and new episodes drop every tuesday and we're back and i mean i don't want to give the lucas stuff short change but yeah the man has been kind of out of his mind but also he is who we thought he was. You know, he came in as the MVP favorite and is now currently the MVP favorite.
Starting point is 00:17:50 But I think the big criticism that people had was that they weren't winning. And now they're the fourth seed in the West. The West just looks wild, right? Yeah. The Wild West, some say. Exactly. Wild, Wild West.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Yeah. Wow. Okay. Slow down. Yeah. I mean, even looking at his last five games i mean it is ludicrous yeah luke to chris um luke to chris but i don't i also don't understand like how i always it's always astounding when like i mean obviously they're i always think it's so funny like i feel like the coaches in the nba for the most part are just there for scale but obviously obviously, a tall guy.
Starting point is 00:18:26 But the amount of rebounding you get when you're... It really is amazing. Those are just amazing stats for the five games. When 32 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists is your worst game in the last five games. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Western Conference, Denver, number one. Memphis, number Memphis number two New Orleans number three Dallas for Sacramento Kings number five like I don't think any I'm in the upside down right now I mean you know what I'm rooting for them I want to see the Kings in the playoffs it's been decades right the beam I think it was the 90s think. I'll only root for them if Donahue will come back and referee their playoff games. That will be it. Embiid has
Starting point is 00:19:14 been pretty ridiculous. I don't think he's even in the top six for odds for MVP. And he's just putting up crazy numbers and the Sixers look pretty good. He's at exactly sixth for MVP odds.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Right. Yeah, he's just outside the top five. Because what that's Jason Tatum, Luka, Giannis, Joker, KD. Yeah. And I mean Donovan Mitchell's name is probably going to start getting mentioned too.
Starting point is 00:19:47 The Cavs are up there. MB put up a 42-12 five assists in a win over the Pelicans. Philly is 8-2 in the last 10. Tied in the lost column with the Cavs. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:20:02 Second round still? The top five in the East is legit so the four or five round which is where the sixers would be the first round is going to be like i don't know a really good team's gonna go home so we'll see if they get to the second round uh okay oh yeah i don't know they've looked really good at times and yet i was 100 confident they were gonna lose to the wizards know it in my bones that's the sixers fam yeah i mean yeah that the win over the pelicans i would we we gotta also just mention that zion is going to be out for several weeks due to a hamstring strain and for lack of a better phrase you hate to see it yeah
Starting point is 00:20:42 i really do because that was i, but that was, you know, we were really starting to cook or watch them really get going. And it feels like every time there's a setback like that. It's amazing to watch him when he's healthy and be like, wow, there is like, this is unreal what's going on right now. It's always crazy too when you have like, you know, someone who doesn't stay healthy that much. And then there's all that hype. And then you kind of let go of it for a minute.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Right. And then you actually see him come out and you're just like, Oh my God, this is insanity. Yeah. I mean, it's like a new, it's like a new player every time when you're like,
Starting point is 00:21:15 yeah, I know he's good. And then like, I remember that off season, he did like that windmill and street clothes. And I was like, God, that's right.
Starting point is 00:21:22 That's right. That's right. That's right. This guy, this guy, we've pitched that he should play every game in overalls or at least like come out in overalls. Or like on a fan boat.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Yeah. He should be allowed to kind of come up with like a wrestling character a season. Yeah. That's what we're saying. Yeah. Like, yeah. Like he's got like a junkyard dog vibe or, you know, macho, whatever it is. I like the overall vibe.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just like those like you know forgive me those who are you know versed in fishing stuff but those like you know protective coveralls that you wear so you can be like knee deep in it yeah yeah just playing in that just doesn't breathe all your sweats collecting and yet he's still just moving across the court i think that's he's just waiting in his own sweat essentially right or like if you lost that
Starting point is 00:22:06 you wouldn't sweat as much as i'm good they're like every time you go for a shot your body's displacing the water inside your coveralls and it's splashing into your face a trout just came out of your pants just happened out there and he caught it with one hand before before it hit well then he could have a pelican. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, Jabari said he said he finally came up with a Zion comp because there's like, what? Who is he? A combination of he said, Dominique and Barkley's body.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Wow. Wow. I like that's a weird one. Even a picture. That is weird. That's like doing a swap. Yeah. I love Dr.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Vero stuff like you cannot do this. We're trying. Oh yeah. You get the sense you're watching something happen with like, not just basketball, but like physics when he's out there. Like there's just like something physically strange. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:58 And jaw. I feel like it was the same way. And they were drafted one too, but job just feels like he is operating with different laws of physics well he's spider-man yeah yeah yeah he's crazy also with memphis steven at steven idams has i love him 21 boards wow dude 21 rebound double doubles i love it his vibe going at it i just. I just love his energy. He just seems like the best guy to have on your team.
Starting point is 00:23:29 He does, yeah. You can just tell. I remember when I used to go to Australia once a year for comedy stuff. These guys who ran a comedy club, their daughter was married to Andrew Bogut. It was right when the Warriors were starting to get really good. I was married to Andrew Bogut. And it was right when, you know, right when the Warriors were starting to get really good. And I was just like, Bogut, man, he's, you know, and they were like quiet.
Starting point is 00:23:51 And then someone was like, die down low like Andrew. Oh, wow. Oh, okay. That's interesting. Wow. And turns out they were onto something. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yeah. But yeah, I always, that's what I always think about Steven Adams. You can just kind kind of tell like seems like a good dude he's a kiwi right yeah yeah yeah right new zealand new zealand i mean we're gonna talk about it later like uh josiah put up his like all right give me your candidates for the best moments of the nba season on twitter and so somebody nominated know, there was the job, Purtle dunk, and then immediately followed by Stephen Adams' full court pass to Joss falling out of bounds.
Starting point is 00:24:35 That pass is underrated. Yeah, straight out of New Zealand, man. Should we talk about Rui? Oh, thank you, Jack. I got a shout out, my fellow Blasian, Rui Hachimura. It's so good to see you, Jack. I got a shout out my fellow Blazion, Rui Hachimura. It's so good to see you, man. 26 points off the bench against the Bucks, sadly. And then 30 off the bench over the Suns.
Starting point is 00:24:53 I've been worried about Mr. Hachimura. But it's good to see that there's some life in him yet. Although it's very hard to get your shoes, Rui. And I met you that one time. And you were so impressed that I spoke Japanese. And I was like, bro, we're the same guy. Except you're the same. You and I.
Starting point is 00:25:10 You are the same, except I am older and freaking you out because I have tears in my eyes saying I look up to you. Streaming down your face. I'm the sad version of you. Rui, beware. This is your future. Don't touch touch him get miles off of him now please like oh my please keep saying this phrase over and over to him i'm also japanese really what did you say to him in japanese oh the first i mean when i saw him this was like this is when i went
Starting point is 00:25:45 to all-star in 2020 in chicago and i got a chance to interview him for something and i just pulled him aside and i just first i was like i just told him straight up i was like hey man it's really good to meet you like i'm also black and he's like and it's great to have people like you out there because there really ain't there's nothing like that except for like you and naomi uh and he was like oh yeah he's like thank you so much he's just so he was so nice yeah uh and then when but also it's this funny thing whenever i speak japanese to japanese people it's just this very japanese thing where like because i'm half i don't look like someone who should speak japanese and it freaks people out and it's funny because Rui is also half and he goes through the exact same thing
Starting point is 00:26:25 with Japanese people. But it's just funny, this like interaction where I was like the American dude who was also Japanese trying to speak to him in Japanese. He was like, at first he thought he was tripping or something.
Starting point is 00:26:37 And then very much, once I verified that and wiped the tears from my face, he knew I was his. I wish he had wiped the tear from your face with the back of his hand. You had to ask, you got to ask him next time.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Can you wipe these away? Please. I just got to please. Namida, chotto fukite kudasai. That's good that they're freaked out and not like embarrassed for you. Cause like,
Starting point is 00:27:01 I know some people who like speak Korean or something and it sounds really good to me but then they speak it in front of a korean person they're like you said you sound like a four-year-old oh yeah you can get hit with some real backhanded comments pulling up with your foreign language skills but yeah he was very nice and yes rui one day please wipe the tears from my eyes you know you just got to cry harder. Yeah. More opportunities. I think that's what it is. Yeah, the next time
Starting point is 00:27:27 you guys are in town, I'm getting court side seats. NBA, help me out so I can have tears stream down my face and Rui can wipe them. He slips. He hurts his ankle.
Starting point is 00:27:35 He slips on that man's tears. No! No! He's like, how could you? He's crying more because he hurt him. This guy won't stop crying.
Starting point is 00:27:44 I think I just need to find an artist to make one of those posters. You know, like Jesus, like the one set of footsteps in the sand kind of thing. Yeah. With Rui holding me. Yeah. You know. It's about you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:55 One set of weep prints. Yeah. Just a puddle. A weep trail in the sand. Me and Rui. A puddle and then some footsteps walking away. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. All right. Real quick. trail and the sands me and rui a puddle and then some footsteps walking away yeah exactly yeah all right real quick so yokich just put up 30 12 and 12 on 10 of 13 field goals two or two from deep versus the celdics a lot of people are starting to say like you gotta actually consider him for
Starting point is 00:28:19 mvp at this point for three in a row which is is kind of unheard of, probably won't happen, but they're at the top of the West. LeBron won four out of five, but it hasn't happened since Larry Bird did it, 84 to 86. And he does it with such style, too. We can't keep talking about how Jokic, he's playing people like an old man in a driveway.
Starting point is 00:28:43 His old man game is... This has never made sense. It's never like... It's just never seemed right. He seems to be moving slowly. Yeah, there should be an inspector. There should be somebody like, this man is impossible.
Starting point is 00:29:00 How's he doing that? It's not real. He's a shared vision. He just tricked Damien Lillard into thinking the basketball came from behind his ear. How? No, that's against the rules. No magic tricks. And the defender is actually charmed by it. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:29:23 That was my ball. Yeah. Coach, did you see that? He's like, what? I see you just let him shoot that open three. Oh, man. LeBron, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:37 this is a little bit back, but you're disgruntled Lakers fans. Sure, whatever. Fine. Let's move past it. Sure, yeah. Let's talk about this epic 38 year old birthday performance.
Starting point is 00:29:48 You know, just went off. And then immediately after 43, 11 and six, and I went over the Hornets on Monday. The Lakers are 16 and 21, but they're just one game back from the plan. And he is, since AD went out, I think he's averaging 34 and a half points in his past
Starting point is 00:30:10 10 appearances and then like 7 and 7 as he always does. And it is the hardest part of the schedule. They're coming home now. What's that absurd stat? I know Jabari probably knows, but like that LeBron wasn't like, when was the last time he was averaging 30 points, Like over 30 points?
Starting point is 00:30:26 It was like in his early 20s or something, wasn't it? Yeah, he hasn't had to for a little while. Yeah, and then now he's like, fine, put it on my back and here we go. Which is amazing to still be able to do it, though. To have that... I mean, it's not that
Starting point is 00:30:41 surprising, I guess, but it is like to still be able to just it really and also i mean that was always the thing was like when people would knock lebron they would be like he is afraid i mean i'm just thinking of skip bayless mainly again but you know they would just be like he's afraid of the big shot and it was like now this dude he's just like way more like his game is just it can be that like i mean remember the first time you saw him score like 50 against the Pistons in that overtime or double play? It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:31:08 You're like, oh, he can do it. To still be able to at this age, even though he's younger than his years, to still be able to just turn it on like that, you are still like, wow, he can still do that. At this age, after going to the... People always talk about the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:31:24 If you're going to the playoffs and you're making deep runs. He was in the finals every year. Yeah. He's like the NBA Brady. Yeah. And you'd get so spoiled. People would be like, he can't win the big game every year. You're like, he's going to the finals every year.
Starting point is 00:31:40 But he's at the big game every year. Every year. Oh, yeah. Did you see... Oh, man. Did you see, oh man, did you see that reverse alley-oop that he caught in the game against the Hornets? No. Oh, it's really good. He's now 500 points away from Kareem. Kareem gave it up for him
Starting point is 00:31:55 after the birthday game, but yeah. I mean, it's wild. I mean, how much longer will he play? I mean, there's no slowing. I mean, I feel like he has the will to play until, you know, Bronny gets in the league. I could potentially see that. That even sounds like weird to even think about.
Starting point is 00:32:14 That would be very strange. But that feels like a thing that he would like his, you know, his willpower is so strong. I feel like he could somehow be like, no, I'm going to play with my son. Like with my regen from the video game. I will defend him. That's a hard
Starting point is 00:32:32 foul, LeBron. Just took his head off. But yeah, this alley-oop was really something. As someone who's also 38 years old, I'm wondering why I can't do that that's tough come here schroeder throws it up
Starting point is 00:32:48 yeah what the what it was so casual man it's amazing like what does that i look at the nba highlight where like somebody involved is just like as amazed as i would be yeah that really is crazy he just really like you could have just put that back but he's like you know what i got a little air time still how about that wow wow schruder was like oh man i threw the worst alley-oop for you, and you still did that. You somehow made a highlight out of it. Yeah, exactly. Oh, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Fantastic. LeBron, long may it last. That's why I'm happy that Tom Brady still plays and is considered decent, at least, is because he's, besides maybe a long snapper, the only player older than me in the NFL. Yeah, me too. And so it's just like, whenever you compare yourself to the actual athlete age,
Starting point is 00:33:49 you're just like, this is so... What's a weird thing you do when you're younger? I would always do it when I was a sport I liked. I'm like, well, I'm only 14, and that dude's 18. That's why he's so good. Then you're like, well, I'm only 18, and this dude's 25. That's why he's doing this. I'm like, well, I'm 23 playing intramurals still even though i've graduated from this college
Starting point is 00:34:08 and this you like you'd start the comparison is really odd but what you picture like a 28 year old as when you're like 13 as to when you're like 40 you're like you're like 24 that is an old man and i if i right i would eat I would eat a man's skin to be 24. Please. Please. And then somehow... Just for one day. Just a moment.
Starting point is 00:34:38 For 20 sweet minutes of running up a hill. And then you get it. I'm just going to watch some TV. What? a hill. Yeah. And then you get it. You're like, I'm just going to watch TV. You just, yeah. Three amigos. I love this movie.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Like, I'm not going to go to the gym, dude. I'm 24. What I need to work out for. You're like, no, that's why.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Going to get some grub hub. Celebrate. Just feel the calories burn off of me. Yeah. Gorge. By the way, we talked about Jack Sikma being the best Jack. What's the best? Because your new comedy special, which is hilarious, by the way,
Starting point is 00:35:12 you talk a lot about the British accent. Who's the best NBA player of all time with a British accent? I don't know the answer to this. Oh, my God. I don't know the answer to this. Maybe we might need to get producer Jabari to look it up for us by the end. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Did Luol Deng come up in the UK before he came over? I need, I need like real Brit, like he, he's. Cause like, oh yeah. Cause that's my,
Starting point is 00:35:37 the closest thing I could think of is like, I feel like Luol Deng, like I know he, he grew up in the UK. Yeah. But I don't know. You're looking for like someone who's like. Ben Gordon, Luol in the UK. Yeah. But I don't know if he... You're looking for, like, someone who's like... Ben Gordon, Llewell Dang.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Oh, right. Ananobi. Ben Gordon. But you want someone named, like... Winston Jefferson. Winston! Pretty difficult to grab every one of those rebounds. We're nutty hard out there. We made a go
Starting point is 00:36:03 at it, didn't we? We made a go at it at the end, didn't we? Like one of the regional accents that sounds fake. You're like, what? Yeah, we got a proper Yorkshireman. Well, don't know about that. We were out there a bit longer than we thought. You know, a bit longer than we wanted to be, but I dug deep, figured it out.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Yeah, I haven't played like that since I was eight years old. So, till then, you're like, I were eight? I'm sorry, sir. I've got the referee's pocket watch. All right, on and on you go, then. Mate, the referee doesn't know what he's doing, mate.
Starting point is 00:36:39 He's out of his mind, isn't he? And then the fans give me pelters after, mate. Sir. That's all I got is met all. There you go. And then the men's give me pelters after my. So, uh, anyway, so, oh, there you go.
Starting point is 00:36:48 And what else, Jack? Who else? Harry Kane. Massive. There he is. Crossover episode. All right, let's take a quick break and we'll come back to put Gareth through the rapid

Starting point is 00:40:17 And it's time for the rapid-fire round of questioning, the fastest questioning segment in all of sports podcasting. We're going to ask you a question. You just respond. Don't think about it. Don't expound upon it. Well, I have to think about it a little. It's already very intense. Even the directions are... Answers can be bad. We would prefer
Starting point is 00:40:37 a quick answer than a well thought out one. Answers will be bad. Good. They don't even have to be answers to the questions we ask. Words come out of your mouth. You're will be bad. Good. Good. There don't even have to be answers to the questions we ask. Yeah. Words come out of your mouth. Yeah. You're like, yes, what is... John Candy.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Let's keep going. The Candy Man. Speaking of the Candy Man. Okay. Here we go. Garrett, buckle up. Ryan, start the clock. Did he start the clock?
Starting point is 00:41:04 I think he did. Yeah. Okay. I just know he asked you to be a little kinder when asking him to start the clock. Did he start the clock? I think he did. I just know he asked to be a little kinder when asking him to start the clock. He's getting the rapid fire treatment. Yeah, well, if he'd start the clock on time, I wouldn't have to berate him in the chat. Did he start it on time?
Starting point is 00:41:17 When I just go all caps, where are you with the clock? Anyway, start it back up. You want to go first? Yeah, yeah, I'll go first with this one. Anyway, start it back up. You want to go first? Yeah, I'll go first with this one. Yeah. Okay. Gareth, you have the chance to win $10,000 to make a layup
Starting point is 00:41:34 with each hand, $25,000 to make five of five free throws, or $100,000 to make at least four of five from deep. Which challenge are you taking? I'll go layup with each hand. And why that dollar amount? I feel like I could,
Starting point is 00:41:50 I feel like that one I could do. I feel like the rest I would not be able to do. And I want the money. I want the sure thing. Because by the way, all this money is going to the Boys and Girls Club because that's the kind of guy I am. And so when you guys are berating me,
Starting point is 00:42:01 just remember this is, I'm a sympathetic figure. Wow. Well, you're not worried about missing a layup in front of Because this is at a packed stadium Well, that makes it tough I can see, I think every one of these will go south For me, so, but I feel like that one
Starting point is 00:42:16 I could probably Pull off, I've pulled off Right-handed or left-handed? Right-handed Left-footed, so that's a huge That's good, so what I'm saying from the left side Yeah, you're going up with your left hand off the right foot, too? That would be off the right foot. No, that would be off the... I'll be coming off the left foot.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Yeah. Okay. I'm just saying, if you're going to use both hands, how are you going to go up? Are you going to do the awkward thing where you, since you're left-handed, you jump with your left leg, you go up with your left leg and left hand wow i look i i again i'm not confident i could see an acl popping yeah yeah more on that later man we got to keep this segment going that's where the money's gonna go if i get it today i know i know i know but here's the next question that you have to answer and it's really pressing what are your top three basketball movies of all time? I would go Hoosiers. I mean, a bit hacky, but, you know, it's really,
Starting point is 00:43:14 it's just for a tiny English white man, it's just, you know, there is nothing nice about that insulated environment. Blue Chips. Yep. Blue Chips. Who's your favorite character in Blue Chips? I mean, Nick Nolte's great, but like Shaq, I mean, this is like Shaq when you were like, ooh, he
Starting point is 00:43:33 was a beast. Yeah. One of the good. And then number three, Teen Wolf. This is the first mention of Teen Wolf that we've had I think, other than me being like, not Teen Wolf, huh? Wolf movie, but to me, that's a's a basketball one of my favorites i i always say it's like that movie still when i watch it i'm like that's that's a good movie so so it means so it means that like i i have a teen wolf shaped lens through which i watch all movies so like my movie yeah opinions
Starting point is 00:44:03 are broken i also like movies where there's no where like you're allowed to let a wolf man play and there's no like nobody's like hey i don't think that's legal let the wolf play yeah he's a wolf man let him let him let him get a few shots plus one of the craziest performances by an extra ever i probably can't get in too deep to what it is on this but yeah let's just say if if there were oscars for extras the last scene in teen wolf would have one this guy would be arrested this guy i'm not a wolf man i'm a wolf wolf man man now let me handle my business damn what is a new rule gareth you'd like to see implemented or altered effective immediately could be in the national basketball you know when we were talking
Starting point is 00:44:52 earlier about the scoring remember the rock and jock games back thank you yes i think we're ready for the 10 point spot we don't need to have it there all game but may you know i think you could mix it up a couple. Have the 10-point shot maybe for the third quarter. Something like that. Where do you put it? Is it fixed or is it dynamically it just shows up like a video game and you've got to be
Starting point is 00:45:16 ready for it? Now that I hear that pitch, it's got to be that. It's got to be... You can have it just intermittently throughout the game and it can just be this little hologram that pops up every now and then and you've got a 10-point shot for a little while. Right. And no substitutions when the 10-pointer's out there. Right.
Starting point is 00:45:32 I'm caveating the caveat. Got it. I like that. I like that. Mm-hmm. Okay. How about this, Gareth? Wilder crowds or fans?
Starting point is 00:45:41 Pick one. Sports fans or the patrons at comedy shows? I would say sports fans. Sports fans are wilder. There are, I don't think, I feel like if you go to a sporting event, you know what you're going to and you're excited to see something.
Starting point is 00:46:00 I would say 30% of shows I do, there's someone who looks like they just kind of got transported there against their will and are looking like, what the hell is this? The whole time. And while even if you're killing, yeah, you can just fixate on this one to two people are just sitting there like, what is this man doing this for? Why does his accent keep changing? What is he talking about? Well, my favorite one is, you know, I'll... Granted, sometimes you'll take creative liberties with a story or a bit, and you'll add a little something to it. But I feel like you're being pretty clear with it. There are things that I'll say that obviously are stories based on reality.
Starting point is 00:46:42 And people will be like, was that really true? And you're like, the idea that A, I make up a whole story, and that B, if I did, this is the best story I can make up. Right. Right. So that happens. I think sports fans just get what they're going to more.
Starting point is 00:46:58 And there's no one trying to do what the people you're paying to see do, trying to go up there and do it themselves. Exactly. Which would be funny though. Like every now and then someone's like, hi, I'm sorry. Can I have the ball?
Starting point is 00:47:12 In the huddle? Yeah. For scale, like you were saying with Marcus. Taking the marker from the coach. Yeah. Honestly, I'm actually going to sneak in for this one. I'm sorry. Who are you? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:21 I'm in like the eighth row. So just try it. I'm not even going to shoot it. I just think get me out there. I want to pass it a little bit. There's a thing that happens now more than I'd seen like when I was growing up where like a player will point someone out who's being like particularly brutal. Yeah. Like they should instead of kicking them out, they should be able to bring them in as a sub for the opposing team.
Starting point is 00:47:40 And they have to play like three minutes out there. Well, you know. It's like at NFL games or soccer games, mainly NFL where there'll be a streaker or someone will run on and the players will tackle the person. And you're like, that's a little bit more. There's something else going
Starting point is 00:47:58 on here than them just trying to stop the person. They're like, I hate what you're doing. They're like, uh-oh, freebie. Yeah, yeah. They're like, I hate what you're doing. They're like, uh-oh, freebie. That's what they're thinking. They're like, this one's on me. Why can't you just trade a pile drive of fans? And everyone's like, yeah! Yes! The 260-pound,
Starting point is 00:48:16 6'5 guy just crushed the 130-pound, 5'4 person who ran on the field with no pads on. Yeah, and they'll cut away. They'll be like, well, we're not going to show it to you. It's like, come on. And finally, a question we close out with every time, Jack or Miles. This is tough.
Starting point is 00:48:34 I mean, I have a comedy crush on Miles just from doing some shows with him. Hey, me too, man. But Jack, you're so understanding to how I feel about that. Yeah, yeah. And you're really empathizing with I feel about that. Yeah, yeah. And you're really empathizing with me in a way that's just awesome. I think I'm 0 and 30. Actually, I shouldn't say that. Wait, hold on.
Starting point is 00:48:54 You're never getting these? No. That's so endearing. Why are you making an emotional appeal right now? What? No, I'm not crying. This is sweat. appeal right now. What?
Starting point is 00:49:01 No, this is, I'm not crying, this is sweat. I'm sweating because I'm nervous because this would really make my year. Well, it's early
Starting point is 00:49:11 in 2023. Yeah. So, for me to be able to make someone's year January 3rd is big. Jack, I've got good news. I'm picking you.
Starting point is 00:49:20 Wow! Yeah, Jack Sikma. It's just, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. The sick man. That's what sick man that's what wow push me over the edge absolute legend gareth legend legend mate oh my goodness oh my gosh gareth man thank you so much for coming on our fantastic podcast it's a fantastic podcast right i will say it's a fantastic podcast and you heard heard that, and that's
Starting point is 00:49:46 Gareth Reynolds of the Dollop, who just said that. So that's a great podcast. Certified, know what I'm talking about. Absolutely. Where can people find you and follow you, listen to you? And again, check out your special. You can find me on social media, at Reynolds Gareth.
Starting point is 00:50:01 This is how a Welsh guy beat me to it on Twitter. So now I go Dewey Decimal style backwards. Reynolds Gareth, one R in Gareth. This is how a Welsh guy beat me to it on Twitter. So now I go Dewey Decimal style backwards. Reynolds Gareth. One R in Gareth. One R in Reynolds. But that's figured. Then my special, you can go to garethreynolds.com. There's a little special tab.
Starting point is 00:50:16 You can click that. Or you can go on YouTube, go to All Things Comedy page, and just search my special. It's called England, Weed, and the Rest. Tell people about it. And then my two podcasts that I have, one is dollop which is american history and then with the same guy we have a similar one where we go through old weird newspapers and it's called the past times
Starting point is 00:50:34 and both those are pretty uh crazy so give those a listen we're amazing podcasts yeah yeah yeah we got a shout out a couple tweets kareem showing LeBron love on his birthday was a fantastic tweet. I don't know if you saw that one. I love that. I love Josiah. Shout out the best tweets of the NBA year and bringing attention to the Pistons game where the dude came for LeBron and just kept coming. I don't know if NBA will let us put that in there but
Starting point is 00:51:05 it is uh one of the great comedy performances of all time uh i don't know if you saw that the guy there's a guy last year yeah i was gonna say that this yeah i remember that yeah it was relentless yeah just the most relentless like going back to tunnel, flying out of the other entrance and just non-stop. One of the great things I've ever seen in basketball or anywhere else. It's great because it's like when you actually
Starting point is 00:51:36 when you can actually break through that barrier, it's pretty incredible. He does kind of at one point break through a little bit and then stop himself. Yeah. He's just like dog that caught the car. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Yeah. You don't want that one. And also we asked for an immediate rule change from our Mad Boosties listeners. And we got, look, a lot of people are feeling the rock and chalk. You know what I mean? I think it was a very clear, like when Rick Mahorn hit, I think he hit a 50 point basket down at UC Irvine. Wow. They used to have the game. I think it was a very great, like when Rick Mahorn hit, I think he hit a 50 point basket, uh, down at UC Irvine.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Wow. They used to have the game. I used to go to, I went to so many rocking jocks cause it was like the cheapest basketball game I could afford to go to. Cause the tickets were like three bucks and at UC Irvine. Um, but anyway, at respect and service said,
Starting point is 00:52:19 uh, every half court shot should be worth 69 points. I'll a rocking jock, uh, at dad, sham dad, man, the chart, dad, you know what? should be worth 69 points. I'll rock and jock at dad. Sham dad. Dad,
Starting point is 00:52:28 you know what? I love that. I love that handle. The strength of that handle. Yeah. And then a friend of the show, former guest at Raj Chapala said every team should be. Oh,
Starting point is 00:52:37 and oh, once the new year starts. Yeah. Why not? I'll take that. Is Raj a Lakers fan? Why is that relevant? Why is that relevant? Why is that relevant?
Starting point is 00:52:46 I'm just curious. Yes, yes. At Winduster says, if a team is down more than 10 at halftime, that team can choose one opposing player to bench for two minutes to start the second half. Either they sit or they were weighted down with clown shoes for those two minutes. I like that.
Starting point is 00:53:00 And also, at Paul Garaventa, he went wild. For the first three minutes of each quarter, teams rotate being able to play five on four. Oh, my God.
