Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Starting point is 00:01:40 People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hey, everybody. Hello. Jack got the vid.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Oh, no. Send your well wishes to him. Aw, jeez. He's taking the time off and he's recovering. I believe he's feeling okay. Did you get an update from him, Daniel?
Starting point is 00:02:15 Hey. How you doing? Let me text him. I think he's doing okay. Yeah, I believe he's doing all right. You doing all right, daddy? That's what I just texted him daddy chill
Starting point is 00:02:26 we were just talking about the video uh anyway yes we're here to tell you what is trending welcome to this edition of man trendster you zited uh nice you know obviously i'm not a supporter of uh united but based on the troubles they're having in the transfer market i'm just like that's interesting to watch from over here. Wow. Arnaud and Ravio? Those aren't top tier names. That doesn't sound like Fergie would ever do that.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Anyway, that is a very specific burn. And let's get into what is trending. Hi, Daniel. Hi, Miles. I'm doing it. I'm here. I'm here to respond to the things that you say. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Respond to this. I love you. I love you. Aw. Wow. See? That's nice. Look at that. And Respond to this. I love you. I love you. Aw. Wow. See? That's nice. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:03:07 And that's a moment, y'all. That's nice. Welcome. I'm about to be, no lie, we might have to bring back the Tuscany sound because you're going to come back from all your, I'm going to be fucked up. I'm going to beat you all over again. I know. You know what?
Starting point is 00:03:19 Send me that Tuscany sound. I got to put that on my own soundboard. Anyway. Oh, I'm sure. The things we lost in the fire, a.k.a. when you moved on my own soundboard. Anyway, the things we lost in the fire, a.k.a. when you moved on to cool zone media, is what I call it. But yes, let's talk about what is trending up first.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Garland, not the Beverly Garland Hotel, but Merrick Garland, the Attorney General. He's basically, he had a press conference, and he said, okay, everybody's trying to, all these wild narratives around what happened is too much we're going to unseal the warrant uh so you can actually understand why he got done up when we run up uh and you know i think the big thing that a lot of people you know like a lot a lot of the people on fox like let's see what's in the let's see what's in the warrant let's see
Starting point is 00:04:01 what's in the warrant and i believe a lot lot of people noticed that one of the people who handles espionage violations was there at Mar-a-Lago. So potentially maybe a violation of the Espionage Act. I don't know. But we're going to, I guess, know more details to kind of put the chaos to bed on the right. But it seems like it still ensues. Oh, got an update. Jack said he's pretty sick, but tested negative.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Okay. He said, he said, he said, maybe it's a 24 hour bug. Wow. We'll find out. Someone check his, someone check his burner Instagram account.
Starting point is 00:04:41 He's like at a theme park. And where's that? Yeah, exactly. Check at easy money sniper. But yeah i don't know we'll see what happens there's plenty of of chaos i mean i guess just to i'll switch it up the next thing that is trending is katie turr uh the msnbc anchor a lot of people have been commenting about the way she's been talking about the raid at mar-a-lago and like casting aspersions and almost like what about isms where they're like are you trying to be fair and balanced or are you caping
Starting point is 00:05:12 for the fascists like what exactly are you doing like saying things like but what if the fbi is wrong like on tv when again that is so reckless because at the end of the day, if you're going straight down the middle, you say they had a search warrant because of mishandled documents that posed a national security threat. End of story. It doesn't have to be like, this has never happened before. This is blah, blah, blah. I'd be like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:38 So that happened. Yeah. Well, now it's happened. And this is the appropriate way for it to be handled. Now let that one cook. Let it cook. Okay. So, yeah, I don't know. I think this is just sort of,
Starting point is 00:05:49 we're constantly watching the media, like, give credence to the words of the GOP and, like, a lot of the talking heads on that side who are being like, this is absurd. The DOJ's been weaponized and saying things like, has the DOJ been weaponized? No.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I mean, sure, like, on the course of history, you could probably do something about that. But in reporting this story, been weaponized and saying things like has the doj been weaponized i know i mean sure like on the course of history you could probably do something about that but in reporting this story don't just parrot the talking points rather than being like nah yeah that uh i believe it's fuck around and find out but whatever i'm not it's also i'm not on msnbc anymore nope is it anymore it's just another situation of just like these cries ring so hollow when one election cycle ago we were so thankful the fbi was all up in hillary's business it's just like yeah it's just just it's a weird look to to rah rah the fbi on and then there are also people who are like isn't this good that they don't like it's like they don't dislike it because
Starting point is 00:06:42 they're like this is an like an oppressive force of capitalism and white supremacy that's existed in our country they don't like it because they are harassing their guy it doesn't serve them right yeah um but it is cool to see marjorie taylor green she's selling defund the fbi merch great but it is funny like i tweeted i was like is it uchiwale or is it one mike like is it Uchiwali or is it one Mike? Like, is it back the blue or is it defund them? I don't know. Wow. Please let me know.
Starting point is 00:07:09 That's good. That's good. Moving on. The number six is trending. Cause of Drake. No, luckily it's for a better reason. Bill Russell,
Starting point is 00:07:21 the NBA legend, who the greatest players have ever to do it, passed away recently. The NBA is retiring his number across the league. That's pretty wild. Michael Jordan didn't even have that. No. But I get it, too.
Starting point is 00:07:34 This man has way more rings. This guy was an absolute legend in the period he was in. And it's really kind of... That kind of took me back. I was like damn like what what about all the people wearing six it turns out guess what lebron what you're gonna need it oh wait what is he is he no he went from 23 he's 23 wait he's six he's six now yeah i was because
Starting point is 00:08:00 honestly my next question would be like there had to be some calculus there where they were like you know not many people are actually wearing sex right now. He went from 23 to six. Really? Yes. And everyone's like, bro, we just bought the 23 jersey. What the fuck is this? And now he's rocking six the last season.
Starting point is 00:08:15 So get ready for another LeBron James jersey. But everybody who's got six, they're going to have to skedaddle. Oh, wait. Let's see. Oh, are some people going to be grandfathered? OK, hold on. to skedaddle on out. Oh, wait. Let's see. Oh, are some people going to be grandfathered in? Okay, hold on. Now I got to look into this. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:08:30 It turns out that you're being retired across the league. However, players currently wearing number six can continue to do so if they wish. So they don't have to do that. But everybody is going to be wearing a little six patch on the jersey, and they're going to have stuff on the court. Nice. But yeah, like 99, you can't have that in hockey, and 42, you can't have that in baseball.
Starting point is 00:08:51 So, you know, that's it. There you go. I mean, you know, hey, I think that's pretty respectful. We'll see what happens. And also, I'll say this. If I was LeBron and I had number six, maybe I would switch, so I'd sell more jerseys, baby. You know people want to be buying more jerseys.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Oh, you got a new jersey? Well, I guess I've got to shell out them 80 bucks. All right. Let's take a quick break and we'll be right back. Yeah. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church.
Starting point is 00:09:27 And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. members for over two decades. Starting point is 00:10:18 And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits.
Starting point is 00:11:35 I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County Rebels with the image of the biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. A lion. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I'd just take all the other stuff out of it.
Starting point is 00:11:59 On the segregation academies, when the civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre.
Starting point is 00:12:28 It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar,
Starting point is 00:12:51 the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. And we're back. Beto o'rourke is trending what now what did he now what did he do well you know
Starting point is 00:13:31 he's he's just out here he's on the campaign trail he's out here he was talking to a group of voters in texas and he was just talking about you know like just how terrible obviously the injustices are just not the injustice the tragedy of what happened at Uvalde and the police response, the cover-up, all that. And as he's talking about this and how the current governor is allowing the assault rifles to proliferate, etc., some dude in the audience started laughing. And clearly it was like, rubbed everybody the wrong way.
Starting point is 00:14:03 But then you hear Beto come through and just be like, oh, hold up real quick. And take that weapon that was originally designed for use on the battlefields in Vietnam to penetrate an enemy soldier's helmet at 500 feet and knock him down dead. Up against kids at 5 feet. It may be funny to you, motherfucker,
Starting point is 00:14:21 but it's not funny to me there you go all right he called somebody a motherfucker it may be funny to you motherfucker motherfucker uh and yeah look the crowd goes wild i mean yeah i don't know what i don't know how you'd respond yeah i'm for the era of uh spice mouth politicians i would run i'll do i mean fuck it if that's the case comedians will run this whole shit if they're gonna tell it like it is baby they're gonna tell like it is baby and i'm and i would do i would have done that like andrew dice clay i'm like it may be funny you motherfucker oh and i take a cigarette around my fucking head. Smoke it like that. Pop my biker jacket.
Starting point is 00:15:09 And I'm with it. Pause for a while. Take a sip. Let's hope Greg Abbott is not the governor, but it's real tight over there. Yeah, we got to pull for Beto. Moving on. Some good news, though. Brittany Griner trending
Starting point is 00:15:23 because the Russians have said prisoner swap talks are underway. For Victor Bout. Please. Hell yeah. Why not? Trade a legendary arms dealer for this basketball player, for this regular human being. That's the math.
Starting point is 00:15:39 War criminal for an absolutely sparkling individual. Come on. That's when you're an unsavory government. You go, oh yeah, we can get something for this. Which is pretty much what happened.
Starting point is 00:15:55 And they did. I honestly hope that I think we've had this discussion recently as it relates to the women's national team for soccer and pay equity and the struggle for pay equity in sports that this becomes a serious topic because again
Starting point is 00:16:12 Brittany Griner doesn't have to go to Russia if she made enough being one of the best WNBA players out there. It's sad. It's so sad. But that is kind of like how Americaica is a lot of times you're like wait that person who's out has outsized importance is not paid enough no uh like teachers uh but yeah i think i i'm really curious to see what the response is if if she even has the energy to say anything because look no one expects you to but i i would definitely i can see why you would
Starting point is 00:16:45 be upset when a lot of the memes were like well that was lebron i i mean i don't tell on yourself that you are a fucking misogynist i could very easily see it going either direction in terms of you know britney comes home and is like i'm going off on our government or comes home and is like i never want to speak to anyone again. I would completely understand and accept both scenarios. And I don't mean anyone, of course, but I mean like I'm out of the public eye entirely. I'm out.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I'm off the shit. It's not worth it. I'm out. Yeah. I, well, it would be such a waste, but I,
Starting point is 00:17:17 I hope this shit goes swiftly and Brittany Griner can come home. And then finally, G4 tweeted something. Best game is trending. Let's go, baby. Because, look, we've got Daniel in the house. Time for the gamers to get loose. But not the problematic ones.
Starting point is 00:17:35 No, no, no, no. They can stay in the hole. G4 tweeted, fill this in. First game, last game, best game, worst game. As in the first game you played, the last game you played, the last game you played, the best game to you in your opinion, and the worst game to you in your opinion. Do you have answers for this?
Starting point is 00:17:53 First game I played was, I believe it was Pong on Atari that my dad had. Damn, you were Pong era. Yeah, because at the time i remember this is wild my dad was so cheap he didn't want to buy nintendo there you go he's like i got this atari from before you were born perfect and i was like okay and the shit was so sad yeah like because also i would see what my cousins were doing in japan and i'm like this is shit called famicom have you heard of this thing can you help me with this so that was my first that was my first game i played what about you was the first game you first game was nba jam on the sega saturn that's the first game you ever played yeah it was my dad brought home a set that was like my first exposure to
Starting point is 00:18:37 video games my dad what was wait saturn was what like 95 saturn was early yeah saturn was pre and 64 yeah it was this it was the disc one yeah no that was my that was my first exposure it was not a super nintendo kid never did any of that until i was like nintendo man yeah i'm a little bit every yeah exactly wow yeah sega saturn was the sega saturn was the first one for me that knights into dreams sonic r those were my uh those were my my staple games as a child. And NBA Jam. Last game you played.
Starting point is 00:19:10 What's the last game you played? I was going to say, I don't want to say because it's also another answer, but the last game I played is technically Minecraft Dungeons. What's the difference between Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons? Minecraft Dungeons. You ever play Gauntlet Legacy? Or any of those Gauntlet games? Imagine a four-person
Starting point is 00:19:27 isometric top-down. You're running through a dungeon together. You defeat little enemies along the way. You're just smacking shit and shooting shit, and then you get to the end. Like Hades, but less fun? Shout out to everybody who told me to get Hades on Switch. Hades rules. Wow. Wow. Did you try
Starting point is 00:19:43 WarioWare, by the way? No. I'm just trying to... I don't want to buy too many games. I get that. I get that. WarioWare is like a million games at once, and you don't... There's no learning curve. It's not like you've got to be good at games. It's... Anyway, we'll talk about it later. Well, I'm good at games, so don't worry about me. See, I know you are, but not everybody. Anyway. Worry about you, sir.
Starting point is 00:19:59 It's not... Yeah. Okay. Last game was Minecraft Dungeons. It's real good. What was your last game? Last game, Division 2. Oh, great. great i'm playing i keep playing that shit i respect that man i fucking it's weird shout out west dog who sees me out there who's also in the the division zeitgang shout out divisions like fucking crew i got uh who i sees you out there and sometimes you playing uh look if you want to catch me on PlayStation, get to Division 2. I'm most likely there or I'm playing FIFA and
Starting point is 00:20:30 I had to uninstall Red Dead to create more disk space for Miles Morales. It's a big game. That's just what happened. But yeah, that's the last game I played. What's the best game you ever played? Rocket League. 100%. It will remain. How do you... Now, how are you
Starting point is 00:20:46 grappling with this question, the best game? You're saying the best game of all time, don't even try and fuck with me, or is this the best game that brings you the most joy as a gamer? That's a really good question, because I think best game is something that... The best game ever is something that's ever-changing. Yeah, exactly. There's new shit coming out
Starting point is 00:21:02 every day where it's like the graphics are taking a leap, the controls are taking a leap, the's taking a leap everything is getting better and better and better but one thing that i like is when a game doesn't have to change when you have a concept that is so good that you can play the exact same game that has not changed at all maybe maybe you have a slightly new look to it but the core mechanics of the game have not changed since the game came out. That's Rocket League. That's Rocket League. And it is competitive.
Starting point is 00:21:32 It's fun. The skill ceiling is infinite. People are getting better and better at that game every single day. But to enjoy that game, it's just driving a car into a soccer ball and putting it into the back of the net. You don't need to know nothing to enjoy that game. And it's so damn good. Rocket League.
Starting point is 00:21:48 I look at this as games that make me jump with joy when I think about playing them. Hell yeah. What they meant to me in terms of playing video games. The first one is World Soccer. Jikyo winning 11-3 World Cup France 98 edition. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:10 What an answer. That is one of my goat fucking games. Hell yeah. That I played. And I remember that summer that France World Cup in Japan like fucking losing just hours
Starting point is 00:22:23 playing tournaments against my cousins and all these people and really cemented my love for soccer so i really credit that game for that um then that's great another one i really like just for the soundtrack nba street 2 because of pete rock and cls what will they reminisce? is one of the opening titles. And you hear... And I said, what the fuck? Incredible. And you could put Jordan 1s on the players. It was like the culture.
Starting point is 00:22:56 One of the first times I felt a video game was like, oh shit, this is hip-hop and sneakers and... Yes. That's like Need for Speed Underground 2. Nailed so many facets of that genre of game. The music. Iconic. Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Was that the loading scene for Underground 2? Mm-hmm. Yeah. You know what I drove in that one? You know what I fucking mobbed? A Hyundai Tiburon. Okay. I was always slamming a Tibur drove in that one? You know what I fucking mobbed? A Hyundai Tiburon. Okay. I was always slamming a Tiburon in that thing.
Starting point is 00:23:28 I don't know fucking why. I think because I wanted one in high school. I thought that shit would look cool as shit. I did the same thing with the Toyota Celica. That real angular one. That one is so cool. Anyway, we could talk about this all day. Worst game.
Starting point is 00:23:41 What's your worst game? Oh, worst game. Oh, shit. Unfortunately, this is the part where we have to be a hater on something that we love. No. I mean, I'll... Let me really think. I actually had something I was thinking of for this.
Starting point is 00:23:55 The game that fucking pissed me the fuck off. Oh, yo. Okay, it was called The Uncanny X-Men. And it came out at a time when I was into the... Look, comic book people, you gotta school me. When the uniforms of the X-Men changed from tired-ass Cyclops to the one where the Jim Lee version, where you have the fucking sash across his chest.
Starting point is 00:24:18 Because he used to be in that blue suit with a white stripe. And you're like, what the fuck is this 70s bullshit? And Wolverine was like in the yellow and orange like uh outfit when they they still hadn't gone to blue and yellow i remember at the time genesis had an x-men game that had gambit and had all the x-men on the cartoon version i was watching as a kid version then there was the uncanny x-men on nintendo i didn't have genesis i had nintendo though and me and my homie like my homie had it and i was like yes dude the action was so bad we used to make fun of how like cyclops did this kick the animation for cyclops kicking i to this day i
Starting point is 00:24:55 could tell my homie yo send me a video of you doing the cyclops kick from the nes game and he'll show up to me straight up perfect uh but so for me this is more about not objectively what is the worst game sure but again i look at what pissed me off so bad as a kid and it was not seeing the x-men that i was hoping for in that game i respect that i think that's a perfectly acceptable answer how about you mine is a little bit more uh down the middle it's this game that actually doesn't exist anymore superman on n64 there you you go. Exactly. No. Are you really going to say that? No, I was not.
Starting point is 00:25:26 No. Oh, because that's like the listicle version. That's the listicle version. I was going to say, that's your whatever. It's Anthem. Anthem was a game that was supposed to compete with Destiny,
Starting point is 00:25:35 put out by EA. They were really hyping it up for a little bit. Yeah. And I gave it a shot. I really gave it a shot. And there is absolutely nothing. There is nothing about that game that was fun,
Starting point is 00:25:49 original, cool. Even just like the landscapes that they made. I mean, like the art, you know, credit to the artists for putting in the work into creating these landscapes and stuff like that that were big and were vast and stuff like that. But the flying controls were terrible.
Starting point is 00:26:06 The shooting felt like nothing. The looting system was boring. All of the guns you found were whack. It was so riddled with bullshit, they've canceled the game. It's done. The game is over. That's bad.
Starting point is 00:26:21 Are they just living off the mass effect? Man, people gets swallowed up by ea and then it's just oh yeah and their shit that sucks and it's you know it's part of this homogenization of video games that's unfortunate you have your act of blizzard being eaten up you have sony eating up companies and you know while i want to trust some of these people more, it's like, man, it's just not it's just not a pretty scene. Yeah. Yeah. Also, have you played Stray yet? I have not.
Starting point is 00:26:51 But I but I've watched a lot. People are saying they're loving Stray for people don't know there's a game where you just you're a cat. You're a cat. I support that. I think, you know, I'll say this. I think one advantage of Microsoft and Game Pass is that, like, the more games that come out on Game Pass, people who already have Game Pass are so much more willing to play them. You see these indie

No, what he's very right about, which is a little bit weird, is that everything is a prompt. You walk up to a ledge, and then you press X to jump up the ledge. It's not like X is a jump button. You know what I mean? Exactly. It's just contextual
Starting point is 00:27:57 action. It's contextual action. Exactly. Look, it's cute, though. You want to play a cutie and be a cutie in a cutie game. Yeah. Then go off. He also said Home Alone 2 is the worst game. I remember the first Home Alone game on Super Nintendo.
