Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, the internet, and welcome to Means to a Trend. Ooh. Hmm. Doesn't even have daily zeitgeist in the title. That just felt like a good, yeah, I like that. Means to a Trend. Yeah. That is our show.
Starting point is 00:00:14 I'm Jack O'Brien. I'm Miles Gray. And this is Nightline. Wait, who gave us that wonderful idea? Means to a Trend is from Zach Van Nus. Oh, shoot. Zach. Zachy baby.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Look at you, sir. Thank you for that name. What's trending? Yeah. What's the show where we'd be like, what's trending, man? But not that show, What's Trending, that used to be on YouTube. Right. This is our very own thing.
Starting point is 00:00:39 This is our very own thing. Proprietary technology. Yes. What is trending? Frozen 2 is trending because it's out today? Is that the deal? Today it is out. And you must see it by law?
Starting point is 00:00:50 Yes. As a parent? I think that's the truth. It's wild. My three-year-old already singing Let It Go. People who have heard the Frozen 2 soundtrack say it's like emo. It's moody. It's dark.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Like what? Have you watched the trailer? Like your kids will be wearing eyeliner at's moody? It's dark? Like what? Have you watched the trailer? Yeah. Have you watched the trailer? No, I don't even know what the first one's about. Oh, really? It's not that good, but a lot of parents ride for it. What's the trailer like? The trailer looks dark. It looks like
Starting point is 00:01:20 the Empire Strikes Back of Frozen. Isn't it about like some woman named Elsa? That's all I know. And she let it go? Mm-hmm. And that's it. Elsa let something go. Is it about her farting? It's dope that it's the first Disney
Starting point is 00:01:36 princess movie where it's about a friendship or a sisterhood between two women instead of being like, she has to find her prince charming uh so it's it's cool in that respect uh interesting it was going to be a normal uh gender normative type of disney movie but then they wrote the song let it go for elsa who was supposed to be the evil uh witch character and it was so good. They were like,
Starting point is 00:02:05 nah, we gotta make her a good character. So they rewrote the whole movie. Not gonna lie, man, I don't know what any of that mess up meant. But it sounds like cool. Anyways, Frozen, big hit movie. Frozen 2 is supposedly about to put Disney and is about to put Disney back on the right track
Starting point is 00:02:24 because they have been on a losing streak, brother. Yeah, they've been basically crashing and burning for the last few years. Yeah. They say that it will propel Disney past the $3 billion box office mark. I've been pulling for them to be able to do that. Yeah, you'll love to see it.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Yes. You'll love to see it. You know what else you will love to see? Floyd Money Mayweather back in the ring. What is going on with him? I don't know. Do we need him to come back? No.
Starting point is 00:02:51 I certainly don't. I could. Is he 42? He's 42, but I could have told you he was going to make a comeback because that always happens. Every undefeated great boxer has to keep coming back until they finally lose. Well, then I hope he gets fully dismantled. Whether that's in a UFC fight versus, you know, what's that dude named?
Starting point is 00:03:13 Khabib Nurmagomedov? Yeah. Or Conor McGregor or whoever else. I mean, I think maybe he kind of is like Jordan, though, too. Right. Like where he he at a certain point he probably is watching tv he's like man these people ain't shit right like let me get back in here let me show you what i can do yeah maybe i'm 42 but i'm also 50 you know when jordan
Starting point is 00:03:33 came back uh with the wizards was he like 40 was was he that old i mean at that point i i tried to forget yeah the sneakers were so bad that's when. That's when I was like, ooh, yeah. Those sneakers kind of looked like the Teslas a little bit. The ones, because they were like triangular. The Tesla truck? Yeah, the Tesla truck. They were like triangles. Oh, yeah. Didn't it have like a spat or something?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Yeah. Like a lace guard on the front? Yeah, they looked a little bit like Robin Hood men in tights shoes. The Mel Brooks film with Cary Ellis? Yeah, they looked a little. Such a specific vibe. I don't know. They look like the Mel Brooks film,
Starting point is 00:04:06 Robin Hood Men in Tights, with Dave Chappelle. Yes. Little known fact. I mean, unless you watched it. How he caught his big break. That's where he learned everything he knows about comedy. Yeah, so I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:16 This dude is... He's definitely going to get a paycheck. One of the worst people in sports, supposedly. But he's going to get paid. I mean, anybody who flaunts their wealth around like that, I can't imagine is a chill person to be around constantly. Yeah. Especially when you derive so much of your identity
Starting point is 00:04:36 by things like that. But what do I know? I'm just a monk in a booth. I'm just a humble monk. I'm a humble monk in my Mazda 3, and I don't have nine Bugattis like this fool. It is November 22nd, and that means it is the anniversary
Starting point is 00:04:51 of November 22nd, 1963, which is also trending. Which is the anniversary. Wait, what happened then? JFK was assassinated. Do you have this date tatted on your body? I do. It's in a number of places, actually.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I'm surprised that you didn't catch on that today. I guess it doesn't really matter that it's November 22nd because I know you love the assassination of JFK. I don't love the assassination of JFK. I find it horrifying. Oh, I'm sorry. You're horrified by the assassination of JFK. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:20 But I mean, more in the sense that you've read so much about it. You are deeply, deeply interested in it. I have a theory that I find convincing. You might as well just say it now. What's your theory? It wasn't Lee Harvey Oswald. Jackie did it. Jacqueline Kennedy
Starting point is 00:05:38 analysis. Wow. Yeah. Trick shot. Trick shot. No, that it was an accidental shot from a secret service agent. It's one of those theories that unless you go into detail explaining why it's plausible, it sounds implausible. So I won't even go into it other than to tell you that I've solved the JFK assassination. And if I disappear this weekend, avenge me. and avenge me. I don't think I would. If that really happened, I'd be like,
Starting point is 00:06:04 you know what? He flew too damn close to the sun. Yeah. Yeah. But you know what? I will carry on this show. Yeah. In your name.
Starting point is 00:06:12 There was an article in some newspaper about the Secret Service agent who jumped on top of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis like as the car took off. Right. And yeah, there's some dark shit.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Well, he's haunted. Yeah. Even like what? What is this? He was unable to kind of put this behind him. 56 years. He was a alcoholic once he retired. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:40 But he then kind of got into recovery, started putting his life back together, but even the way he describes it, they talk about the fact that when she goes to the back of the car- Where she's crawling on the trunk? Where she's crawling on the back. I always assumed she was trying to get away, but she was actually going back there to scoop up his- What had been-
Starting point is 00:07:04 What had been inside his head to put it back in his head, which is, yeah, it's dark, man. Maybe we don't celebrate this day. Yeah. Well, not that anyone's celebrating. I don't think we should celebrate it. Get your JF cakes. It's November 22nd.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And then finally, a hashtag that's trending. Hashtag in 2020, I'm going to quit that's trending hashtag in 2020 I'm going to quit hashtag in 2020 I'm going to quit yeah what are we going to quit in 2020
Starting point is 00:07:32 well I just can't quit you ha Brokeback Mountain joke just can't do it my mom's favorite film nailed it she oh my
Starting point is 00:07:39 if my mom heard you say that if she's listening to this she's gonna go I love when Jack did Brokeback Mountain reference. Your jacket actually looks like it could be from Brokeback Mountain. Oh, hell yeah. Jack Twist. Brokeback Chic.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Call me Jack Nasty. What are you going to quit in 2020? I'm quitting the show. Okay. Good to know. I hate to tell you like this. Yeah, this is surprising. I think that was the top trending ones that people did in 2020.
Starting point is 00:08:05 I'm quitting my job. Yeah, there you go. I'm quitting being as sedentary as I've been. Yeah. Yeah. I think what I'm going to do, I'm going to be, I don't know, man. I'm so tight. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:08:22 I don't know what else I should say. I must be hard for you to think about self-improvement things. Dude, how can you improve upon a flawed thing that you can accept? It's not about perfection. You go, you know what? It's flawed, and I accept it. Just keep it moving. A thing that I will quit doing, though, is just negative self-talk.
Starting point is 00:08:44 I think that's the hardest. I think that will be a thing I'll try and quit every year. Do you give yourself some talking to? Oh, my God. Are you kidding me, man? Gets ugly in there. Between being half Japanese and like being a perfectionist, all kinds of stuff. So many times I'll just be overly critical of things that I do.
Starting point is 00:09:03 And I realize, you know, like it's only serving a very odd, like other, I don't know, dimension of my personality that doesn't actually serve me in any way. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like I have a reflexive thing where it's like, can't let myself get too happy or then it'll. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:09:17 It's like, well, things are going too good. Yeah. Now what's going to be the bad thing? Now I'll ease up. Yeah. I think that's, you know, it's just about living in the present, embracing it, because the future doesn't exist and neither does the past. And what's only real is the present. So if we stay engaged there, then how can we have anxiety?
Starting point is 00:09:34 Yeah, you said it, brother. You know what I mean? This has been my TED Talk. This is our first full week of Means to a Trend. Yeah. week of means to a trend yeah and i am uh as we mentioned on yesterday's means to a trend i'm uh pretty delirious at this point yeah we've look i mean people don't know we've got a lot of things cooking churning don't worry it's not a tv show yeah i wish most of the time when people say that like with any kind of media right it's like like guys we have something we've really been working on.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Yeah. It's a TV show with CISO. Yeah. I don't know if you guys so hold on to your butts. This stuff this CISO thing sounds pretty cool y'all.
Starting point is 00:10:16 I hope y'all will chip in a dime or two. All right guys have a great weekend. Yeah. Go see Frozen 2. Tell me about it. Or don't. Or Mr. Rogers a great weekend. Yeah. Go see Frozen 2. Tell me about it. Or don't.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Or don't. Go see Ford vs. Ferrari. Or Mr. Rogers. Or Mr. Rogers. That is what my mom would call that movie. What? Mr. Rogers. Oh.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Wait, what do you mean? Isn't it called, like, Won't You Be My Neighbor? Oh, I don't know. Yeah, then I'm like your mom. That's Mr. Yo, y'all go see Mr. Rogers. I was going to say, whoever said that is like someone who works at the studio, who actually had a hand in making the fucking thing.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Right. Versus me, I'm like, that's Mr. I don't know. It doesn't have it. It's Mr. Rogers. Like Captain America? That's Mr. Rogers. Even as a child, I never called it Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Right. It's Mr. Rogers. Yeah, that's true. Point blank. That's how the brand is. It's too big. It's too strong. You can't redefine it now.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Good luck and good night. Yeah. That movie, like, apparently it turns out Mr. Rogers is just a monster. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. It turns out at the end, there's a twist where it turns out it's all part of the Shyamalan universe.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Like that movie Split. The village. Yeah. Oh, could you imagine? Oh, he's like the- Mr. Glass comes out. What's the thing? What were all the puppets called? Fantasy Land or whatever? King Friday? Yeah, but like, what you imagine? Oh, he's like the... Mr. Glass comes out. What's the thing? What were all the puppets called?
Starting point is 00:11:26 Fantasy Land or whatever? King Friday? Yeah, but like, what was it? Didn't that thing have a name? I don't know. I'm ignorant and old. This was 900 years ago. But I was going to make some kind of reference like that was the village.
Starting point is 00:11:38 And see, again, this is y'all seeing us losing momentum at the end of the day. All right, guys. Go enjoy your weekends. We will do the same. Are we? I think we're going to just shut down the lights. You and I just close our eyes
Starting point is 00:11:52 and power down until Monday and we're like... Time to go. The Rogers movie came out this weekend. Hello! Hello!
Starting point is 00:12:00 All right, guys.
