Courtesy babies courtesy of lacaroni yeah shout out to everybody with the well wishes really appreciate that yeah man yeah makes you feel good although i'm so nervous bro i'm not you're gonna be yeah it's more about i'm not i'm fine with the bait it's the the birth and all that you know i'm like i have such a movie formed concept of what birth is and i'm slowly letting that uh evaporate as I inform myself more. But it's just funny. I'm like, shit, man.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Am I going to be like Hugh Grant in nine months or some shit? Oh, I don't think I've seen many of the... I guess I've seen Knocked Up, but I don't think I've seen many. Well, everything's always like, ah, my water broke. Like, go to the hospital. And then she's real mean to's a marathon well yeah a lot of i can't believe you did this and you're like what the 90s version so as i try and uh you know disconnect from those horribly unbalanced portrayals of childbirth um yes i'm i'm
Starting point is 00:02:39 getting more into my zen zone yeah yeah meditation meditation yeah um all right well i am jack that is miles these are some of the things that are trending uh mccarthy is trending yeah not jenny or joe but or that's who it is he finally did it folks after 15 fucking tries he finally gave away his entire spirit so he can grasp that wooden dildo in his hands and feel like a big speaker he knew he could be uh but with no power because like so what the basic thing is like any member of congress can call for like a vote of confidence to oust him so he has like the sort of day like the what is it the sort of damocles or the blade of damocles right well is it either one i think i've heard it both ways hanging above him isn't that like kind of how it is in the uk
Starting point is 00:03:28 where they can just call call for a yeah but he's doing it in a way of like being like dude what else you want like you can fucking kill me if you want like it's sort of like the negotiation to the point where you're like all right and now it's funny because i know they're probably at this time i haven't seen like they were voting on the rules changes that they wanted that a lot of like the right winger holdouts wanted. But they say a lot of this stuff. We're probably not going to understand what kind of deals are made until suddenly like Marjorie Taylor Greene's like,
Starting point is 00:03:56 I've got an anti-mask death squad investigation committee going or something weird or completely, you know, in outer space. Yeah space yeah well that's good that's glad i'm glad that that portion that small portion of the electorate is i shouldn't say small portion of the electorate but pretty significant growing portion of the electorate has has a nice foothold on power yeah um kendrick is trending i think because chartable i think or some charting agency uh announced like good kid mad city was the number one selling rap album in pure sales
Starting point is 00:04:34 in 2022 so i'm guessing that means like vinyl and shit like holy shit but it is my favorite album of the past you know couple decades and so that made me feel good like and also it's it's what was the other thing like i remember in october they were saying it was on the billboard like hot 200 for fucking 520 weeks you know like 10 years basically yeah yeah it doesn't doesn't get old no turns out definitely in my uh top whatever 20 albums at any given time yeah it's such a good it's just it's like it's one of those albums that you're like that's a good album i am like that i say that all the time it's a good album that is a good album which one jack good kid mad city i know we're not even talking about that um fannie willis is trending yeah the da in fulton county you know was doing the little investigations into trump and the
Starting point is 00:05:32 cronies over you know alternate electors and putting pressure on the secretary of state in georgia to be like call the election for me now um the grand jury has completed its work so the investigation set investigative portion has concluded which means she you know we knew she hollered at people like lindsey graham who was like trying to do every anything possible in his life to not testify um and like other members of like the trump camp and uh various people involved with like the secretary of state's office. So what that now, all that means is like the report has been completed. If now, if Willis is seeking indictments,
Starting point is 00:06:11 she has to go to another grand jury to do that. So, I mean, so that's kind of where we're at in the process. And I think a lot of people are like, Oh, maybe that's bad for Trump. And I look,
Starting point is 00:06:24 we, we know as much as you guys, we just don't know. We just don't know what it will look like. The stuff we know about is just the, the phone calls and shit with being like, we need to, we need to find 200,000 more votes,
Starting point is 00:06:37 that sort of thing. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. But old school cartoonish, uh, corruption. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Yeah. Mob boss nonsense. Just leaning leaning on this like public servant um but yeah i i think there's been a few articles i forget who wrote one they're like don't expect seeing justice to be like a super cataclysmic spectacular affair it could be very anticlimactic uh right it could be more like joe mccarthy who just sort of like fizzled off into the in the background as people realized they weren't really fucking with what he was putting down uh but i don't know the amount of laws this guy's breaking you'd on some level you'd be like it's not that i don't i think i don't know if that piece was written to be like don't expect him to go to jail folks he's powerful and white right and i think maybe that's the subtext of writing
Starting point is 00:07:25 something like that but i think at the end of the day most people who are like what is going on in our country and how are we going to expect to have any sort of semblance of uh an operational government if we keep doing shit like this i know there was recently a article that was like trump's lonely campaign or something i didn't read, but it was like a feature about how it just painted him as like, there's no chance this guy's getting elected and he's just out here like doing whatever to stay relevant. But I don't know, this feels scary to me.
Starting point is 00:07:57 This feels like all the, you know, the consensus, the experts who are wrong every single time are very loudly and busily like counting him out and this is where like they're like yeah well it ends up like we're not going to charge anything and then a year from now we're like how did he get back to being the leader of the party well this is yeah man what we're seeing though is like more and more fracturing though with like the gop because once like there's there's like that whole group of like the more established people who are like yeah fuck we'll vote with trump or whatever but now they like resent these like 20 holdouts
Starting point is 00:08:36 for getting whatever concessions they could out of kevin mccarthy and they're like we just got in line and now you're giving them shit like what the fuck is this so we'll see how that infighting plays out but at the end of the day i think they both they all want the same thing which is some kind of ethnostate right right so there's always a chance those crazy kids will work it out yeah you never know all right let's take a quick break we'll be right back when you think of mexican culture you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre. It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Lucha libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. Santos! Santos! Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport
Starting point is 00:09:44 from its inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest.
Starting point is 00:10:27 I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey. But this was only the beginning in a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron, and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Dr. Laurie Santos, host of the Happiness Lab podcast.
Starting point is 00:11:15 As the U.S. elections approach, it can feel like we're angrier and more divided than ever. But in a new, hopeful season of my podcast, I'll share what the science really shows, that we're surprisingly more united than most people think. We all know something is wrong in our culture, in our politics, and that we need to do better and that we can do better. With the help of Stanford psychologist Jamil Zaki. It's really tragic. If cynicism were a pill, it'd be a poison. We'll see that our fellow humans, even those we disagree with, are more generous than we assume. My assumption, my feeling, my hunch is that a lot of us are actually looking for a way to disagree and still be in a relationship with each other. All that on the Happiness Lab.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. and we're back and biden pivot is trending uh-oh i hear the shoes in the gym get ready baby uh according to axios president biden is quietly pivoting to the middle as he prepares for a 2024 run and then this is the this is the line that really blew me away voters sent a clear message in the midterms that they value bipartisanship rejecting extreme candidates republicans accommodated the far right with often disastrous results here we go so the rejection of the far-right candidates who are claiming that the election was stolen and focusing on like just wild conspiracy theories and you know anti-science that has somehow turned into voters rejecting the left as well i mean it's wild on one end right you have people being like the jews are burning up our earth with their lasers from outer space right and then the other side people are like
Starting point is 00:13:11 stop price gouging diabetics for insulin pay teachers more whatever and you're likening the what like come on seriously fucking nonsense like it's get out of here it's so crazy there's not a there's not a detail where there's not a single point of evidence where they're like and this progressive candidate really fucked the democrats over you'd think they would need a story that they could hang that on but yeah well they got to hold the line right you know what i mean like it's because it's becoming clearer and clearer like the sort of juxtaposition of like the right wing and then like leftists and progressives in congress like they're basically both bad right yeah but then these same fucking people will write pieces that are like wow like look at all this stuff that's pulling well for
Starting point is 00:14:00 joe biden that were like progressive policies yeah and then you're still going to want to be like oh don't embrace progress too much even though you start like read the fucking room man people want people need new shit people don't like the status quo and some people on the right the status quo means like i feel like i should be able to do racisms whenever however and others are like yeah man i don't think people should die just because they're poor like you're able to work, groceries shouldn't be out of reach or fucking rent or buying a home. Extremism. That's basically like doubting science and vaccines. Yeah. I guess what it is, it's extremism to the status quo and the hyper wealthy.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Right. Like they're the kind of people like, well, I mean, what do you think? I bet like, what do you think would happen if AOC was president? I mean, like, let's be real. Like that, I don't think much would change, but like, that's like the kind of thinking where like, oh, you don't want that world. Like they think they know how to make it better, but that's not how it's by giving us more money in the form of tax breaks.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Right. But they, yeah, I just, I remember the day after the red wave failed to happen and we're just like looking at the election results being like, okay, so how are they going to spin this? Because it really does seem like there's a lot of energy behind progressive policy. And I was assuming they would like coalesce around some data,
Starting point is 00:15:20 like some one specific election where they could, but it just feels like they're just deciding to just go with it right he's gonna pivot to the middle from the middle is a he's just doing a 360 work the middle work the middle as alia said in her famous song rock the boat but don't rock this boat just work the middle joe just work the middle joe work the middle new position on climate change and then you like throw on some leftist policies that are very popular but then claim they're centrist that's that's the way to do it yeah exactly he ended 2022 with his party cutting deals with some Republicans on small-scale gun regulations and a big infrastructure package.
Starting point is 00:16:08 But that's in the article about how he's going to pivot to the middle? Like, I don't know. Anyway. DeMar Hamlin, we have good news there, was released from the hospital or at least was moved back to Buffalo, right? Yeah. It was discharged, yeah, from the hospital. Great news. In tomorrow's episode,
Starting point is 00:16:27 we talk about how anti-vaxxers have just hopped on that as the newest person who was vaccinated died suddenly moment. But yeah, good to see that he is out or at least discharged
Starting point is 00:16:43 and on the road to recovery. And then this next one is two names that i think we've all been waiting to hear together in the same sentence mtg and dr yeah still um hell yeah mtg and dre collaborating no uh she posted a video of her like strolling down the halls of congress like like some hero shot type shit was still dre playing in the background miles and it's offensive on so many i mean we don't have to get into y'all know where she's at with her idea on race uh so dre was like yeah uh let's cease and desist that nonsense it's like i do not it's like i don't want politicians using my shit especially not someone like that um so you know big dre fan marjorie taylor green that's a perennial problem for republicans where they like use an artist's
Starting point is 00:17:37 work that is like oh no i'm against everything that you are trying to use my music to soundtrack you just think like these are just like background tracks for your posts some of these like i'm i'm coming from a specific place creatively and i'm whatever you know what you're still there you're still dre i guess well this fellow is just uh enthusiastic about being born in the usa i think that's why he says it so often that's why we can use it for reagan 84 i think was he tried to use born in the USA, I think. That's why he says it so often. That's why we use it for Reagan 84, I think was he tried to use born in the USA.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Anyways, and then an update from last week's trending, M3 Gan, the new Blumhouse horror comedy. This is basically like Child's Play updated for digital era or simone as super
Starting point is 00:18:27 producer brian pointed out that's a the last movie where they did like the numbers in the woman's name title at least that was a one yeah at least that was ones and zeros but maybe they're like no we're about web three oh we're in the web that web 3 era three again yeah so web three again is uh it made 30 million dollars at the box office uh which i think surprised some people and qualifies for uh my rating of that's officially boffo bo it's boffo that's giving it boffo i think i'm giving it a boffo dude m3 again boffing it up love to see it i haven't seen it way too freaked out by just the still images that yeah the fuck i want to see that shit i'm like i'm sorry like if that's your shit fine i'm i'm just letting people know where i'm at when i see things like that shit is freaky and that's not what i want to look at yeah i think
Starting point is 00:19:21 they put your quote the fuck out of here on the movie poster freaky and i don't want to look at yeah i think they put your quote the fuck out of here on the movie poster freaky and i don't want to look at it miles gray unknown unknown man all right well those are some of the things that are trending on this january 9th monday uh we are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the vaccine don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we'll talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Hell yeah.
