Terrell Brandon's name doesn't get brought up that much. So you're a fan of the pure point guard. That too, but TB is responsible for me to pick up the ball. So I got to show love. and the baby bulls captain kirk and ben gordon i mean the list goes on even the eddie robertson years i mean i've been down so wow so that so yeah so so i mean let's let's start off with the first name on this nick van axel you're at the time you're living in la yeah you're a bulls fan yeah but i think i think for most people who saw nick van axel play there was something very intriguing about him like from his style i remember wanting so bad to put two parts in my eyebrow and my mother would never let that happen i did it i did it you did it yeah i did it on my own i was gonna say there's there's something intoxicating about nick van axel so like what's how did you why did why why is this the first name on your

list for you personally um he just had swag to me man nick nick you know i'm saying um i got a chance to meet him too like four years ago but nick uh everybody was on eddie jones i don't know why like eddie jones was dope shouts eddie ej right yeah i love daddy it's like before gail goodrich starts tripping on the 25 yeah yeah right but at that time tripping on his retired number yeah no but still like why y'all let him wear it then you know what i mean if that was like the case you know what i mean like he should have been six but everybody was going on the eddie you know the eddie jones train and i was just like this is post jordan retirement you know what i'm saying like 94. so i'm like oh quick man you know what i mean he nice he doing the bounce he's going times he's he was dunking at the time for a lot

of people that don't know nick van nasson could dunk a little bit before you know his knees got all jacked up and start wearing the two knee braces and the high socks. But he was just so smooth. Um, and he was just cold to me, man. Like he really was just nice. And that was the only time, like when Jordan retired, that was my like free agency of like rooting, being a fan of the players. So that's when I picked up the J kid rookie year. I remember going to get the Dallas Mavericks starter Jersey. I watched him in Jersey. I had that. So that's our J kids in the mix.

Um, but I was just, I had that freedom when Mike was away to root for other players, same with Penny Hardaway. So like all those other guys came from like Mike's came from the vacuum. Yeah. That was left when Mike, it was like,

go ahead. You can be judge free and go. Yeah. Have fun with whoever you like. I mean, yeah mean yeah he was so i just remember there was this like just grittiness to him as a player especially when like our last great you know we're like you know what after magic we're like who's like the next great like you know lakers point guard and you get nick van axel who like almost felt like like a street ball player kind of like the way he played and his whole attitude. And I just remember Dell Harris always getting mad at him for kind of like

just doing whatever he wanted. But at the time, like it was effective. And I get that. You don't like that. They're coaching philosophy. Doesn't quite square with his playing philosophy, but it was always.

Yeah. So fun to watch. And I didn't realize he was so one-sided. I was, I was, I saw like this interview with Kobe when someone asked him like, you know who who like who'd you get done by like first that when you got to the lakers and he thought about he's like nick van axel like every time he kept doing the you reach i teach kind of thing and he's like but then after about five days i

realized he couldn't go right and then i figured him out and i was like oh yeah yeah i mean he was lefty that he's like one of the most iconically lefty people in my mind he's the complete opposite of tony parker yeah yeah yeah and big hands too like though he was palming the ball like all the time just doing yeah very he had that one behind the back pass on the breakaway where there's like two people in front of him and he went behind his back but two so he went behind his back on with his left hand to his left side right but it was like so weird that it like froze the defenders in front of him uh it was pretty cool you should you should check it out i think it was

yeah it was against the jazz and 95 i guess pretty yeah another question we should ask alongside this because for people i think a lot of players like a lot of younger people are aware of these names, but few of them actually see really like like a five second clip doesn't really give you like the understanding of a player. What do you, you know, like for people who are hearing this saying, oh, Nick Van Axel, like what, what, why, why do they need to care from your perspective? Like why go find some longer form highlights of Nick Van Axel? I think realistically all those OG players that probably didn't get the love that they deserve. Um, they did it first. You know what I'm saying?

They inspired the next gen. You know what I mean? Like, you don't get Iverson, you don't get these type of guys that have, you know, you don't without a Kenny Anderson, without a, you know, Chris Jackson, my mood, I'll do it. You know what I mean? For, for others. But, you know what I mean? Like, you don't, you don't like, again, I was shocked that Terrell Brandon got shouted out.

You know what I mean? Chauncey Billups was like, yo, when I was at the bottom of the barrel of my career, you know, uh, TB is the one who showed me how to be like a pro. You know what I mean? Like, is this certain people that just the unsung heroes that like really were like that like most people scream john stockton i scream mark price so it just it just depends you know i mean i think that's so important you know i mean like more than highlight clips you know i mean like i'm so fortunate to have nick vanex will follow me on twitter so from time to time we joke together um and i think that's the coolest thing ever for me.

Do you remember the Sports Illust illustrated where the cover was the best point guard in the nba and it was terrell brandon like and that that was like a real controversial statement this is the cleveland calves here right yeah when he was yeah with the calves i remember that because his i remember this this cover because he was like ah face on it didn't quite inspire the most confidence when you're posing that question but I get it. I think it was quite hard to market him too. You know what I mean? This is a guy that's 5'11".

No, there was an implied who on the cover because he was not even top 10 most famous point guards at the time, but he, he was doing people up and, you know,

his assist to turnover, I feel like was the thing that everybody pointed to. He was just great. He's one of the greats. Yeah. Yeah. I think you're right. He doesn't get,

get shouted out quite as much. We also have a couple big, what ifs on your list with Penny Hardaway and Grand Hill. First three years, man, they was supposed to be the the ones you know i mean like unfortunately you know penny couldn't you know his he ended up you know he finally got a chance to tell his story about what really happened as far as his knees and rushing back too fast right grant hill damn near having a hole in his ankle you know i mean like that that stuff is like kind of unheard of where you damn near sue the medical staff and the team, you know what I mean?

Right. Like them things were kind of misread and misquoted and all those things of you just like, ah, I can't believe they can't get hurt when they like damn near life threatening things. You know what I mean? That was happening. Um, cause you know, that stuff was messing with them internally. Yeah.

Just like a physical injury. So big fans of them. You know what I mean? Grant Hill, Fila, Sprite, all those type of campaigns really reeled me in. The marketing power. Like Grant Hill with the Sprite. I obeyed my thirst, certainly, when he asked me to. And then Penny with the Lil' Penny thing.

It was, I mean, I think for a lot of people, Penny has to wait. I didn't make it in that too. Yeah, right. Yeah. And Chris Rock. Stacey Wall. So,

y'all know that, you know who was originally supposed to do the Chris Rock voice, right? I mean, Lil Penny. Lil Penny. Martin Lawrence.

Martin Lawrence. Really? Oh, really? Yeah. But it ended up being Chris Rock, right? Yeah, Martin Lawrence just didn't,

he just, he read the script, he just really wasn't feeling it. And St Chris Rock, right? Yeah, Martin Lawrence just didn't. He just, he read the script. He just really wasn't feeling it. And Stacey Ball, genius, you know, was like, let's choose Chris Rock as an alt. And Chris Rock would happen to be like, he was affordable. And then also he was a basketball fan. So he was bought into the idea of like speaking for Penny while Penny like let his game speak for himself. Right. Yeah. Yeah. idea of like speaking for penny while penny like let his game speak for himself right yeah yeah yeah because i can't imagine hearing past me the rock fool in martin lawrence's voice

i had to act the little doll that said all the lines and i'm like they're just so burned into my head hearing it in chris rock's voice that it's hard to even be like would it even been the same if it was more yeah i mean it's so iconic because of his voice, I feel like. Yeah, it's the same thing when you think about, like, when you see certain movie roles were up or a certain song was given to this person

who were like, oh, that was made for DMX. And you're like, what? How can DMX do Ain't No Heart and Love in City? You know what I mean? That's old.

Like, I don't want to hear that. You know what I mean? So, yeah. Will Smith could have been Neo in The Matrix. I'm like, I don't know. Yeah, I mean, I don't know uh yeah yeah i wouldn't probably love that but who knows but yeah i mean like between penny and grant hill i don't know for the two of you who who this is such a hard question to ask but like who would you have rather not rather but like

i feel like because did we fully see their full potential because they were so injury plagued i mean it was clear in when they were healthy what they were capable of. Grant Hill was the closest thing to Jordan, but Penny was the more like Penny had the unintentional swag. Like I was wearing a bandaid like Nelly for no reason. Like it was just certain things that just was just there. And then he had like before his official shoe came out he had like five non-cigs that he was really floating in that orlando colorway that was like gotta have like right the air up is still one of the joints that i'm like the flight one like them joints are still

like engraved in my brain we still call them the pennies yeah you know i'm saying exactly they were the penny the foam posit is technically not a penny. Is that real? Yeah. It's technically not a penny. The same thing with the Air Mora Tempo. OG. That's not a pippin. But they just did. They performed so well in these sneakers that we just dubbed that name.

We were the first copywriters. The fans were. Right. But wait. At what point did they put the one cent logo on the phone posit though? It was just that it's a phone posit, but it had, it was branded like a penny. It was a penny. Oh, got it. It was a penny. Yeah.

Makes sense. The air penny one. Right. The first one. Right. Right. Right. Right.

Right. You know what I mean? Yeah. But we were just like, oh, the pennies. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They just were able to flip the PE and then go into. Cause then I remember like the Mike Bibby, Arizona team, they were like one of the first players to wear that shoe out.

And I remember being like, wait, what are they wearing? Like what, what is going on over there? And then. Yeah, no,

it was just a regular hoop shoe. So it could be used as a team shoe. And it was kind of uncharacteristic because you never really seen, unless you was like in a wild a you situation where, Oh, they got a whole of Jordans. And it's like, right. I would do where, you wear you know i mean like that's an individual shoe it's not like a team performance like everybody wouldn't be able to work right and that everyone's getting

priced out of the situation right but i mean he had penny too he was big he had like he also had a game you know what i mean 95 yeah you know I mean yeah could shoot he could post up like he had it all that's I'm like I'm always you know like that what his rookie year it's it's like how often are you coming in your rookie year and like yeah so we went to the finals yeah I mean off the back of that I mean like he felt so ready

like the same how long do y'all think that run was for him just to estimate again the answer yeah like before he got injured pennies dominance i would get two years three and a half seasons three three but guess what gilbert arenas had the same window three is that real yeah three wow that's it that seems longer it felt like a it felt like a long time. But the same thing, the advertising made

Penny's feel like it was six years. It literally was a three-year run. We were robbed. We moved on that quick. Those have to be two of the biggest what-if guys ever, right? Derrick Rose is one. Derrick Rose is good.

Yeah, that's a good answer. Derrick Rose, Grant Hill Derrick Rose. Yeah. Derrick Rose is good. Yeah. That's a good answer. Derrick Rose, Grant Hill, Penny. Those are all. Cause neither of those two was MVP. Derrick Rose was MVP at year three. Like,

okay, what's next? You know what I mean? Like, yeah. You know, as a Bulls fan, I was delusional.

I'm like, Oh, D Rose, we about to win it all. Right. And then when that happened, it was just kind of like, guys did ACL, but he just, he just never bounced back. I'm like, oh, D. I mean, he had a 50-point game with Minnesota and stuff like that, but those are just morale boosts at that point, you know? So it sounds like you skew more Grant Hill than Penny, but if you could wave a magic wand over their injured body part to get them just that little bit more longevity who you you want to see grant hills go all the way no i would say penny okay yeah i would say penny because of the cultural relevance like grant hill was like goody two-shoe you feel me like yeah he just played he's like the tim duncan of small forge you know i'm saying like he played the game right he might have a little crossover and bang on you but it wasn't like no celebration it wasn't yeah it wasn't like no passion but he just played the game the right way yeah it just was a dog he was

just embarrassing people but penny i just felt like we would have got more cooler sneakers you probably would have got like you know some i mean yeah yeah we would have got some like we probably would have been on a penny train way longer you know i mean and like that pinstripe orlando joint was just correct you probably would have got more shack and penny years you know i'm saying like so there's there's a bigger what if in like the teal grant hill you know i mean this game feels a little bit more singular. Like his, it seems like Grant Hill, I think, was a lot of times compared to Jordan or, you know, Penny's game just felt like, I don't know, like captured my imagination as a kid. You know?

It was very, it was very fresh though. Like the big point guards we had was quote unquote Magic Johnson. You know what I mean? Like. But he didn't say like yeah but like a player of like you know like that one move that's that comes on Twitter every once in a while where he dribbles his fans like that he was doing it like he was doing some innovation stuff you know I mean that was like you seen that or he you know I mean he made passing cool like magic

made passing cool but it was like of our era our generation if you i'm 85 so like i'm in the 90s i'm really like oh penny this penny that you know so by the time and i still you know it's like yo it's like a bad rapper who doesn't get better and he just only gets trashed but you're still riding with it like the next next year's the Miami heat. I still was like, that was like damn near Dion in the redskins Jersey. Like it was like, it was over, but I'm still just rooting for dog.

Like, go ahead. That's why I was like, it was kind of a moment though. And then Jason kid and Penny were playing together at the suns. They also had, well, Phoenix had crazy point guard factory.

They had at one point in time, they had Nash, Kevin Johnson and Jake J. Kidd on the roster. Like, what? Yeah. That's nuts. That's crazy. That's nuts. That's too many great point guards.

Who are your top five point guards of all time? Magic, Isaiah Thomas. This is an order, by the way. One, two, Steph Curry, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul. Okay. How are you feeling about him going to the Spurs? Love it. I called it all.

I called it all like a year ago. Did he go to the Spurs? Not that he would go to the Spurs, but that it was just a good fit. Yeah. Makes a lot of sense. Because it's like, it works out for both.

You know what I'm saying? Like, we'll be probably going to tell him shut the hell up, but, um, he's like, cause Chris, who went with Chris Paul what I'm saying? Like, we'll be probably going to tell him shut the hell up, but, um, he's like, because Hooping with Chris Paul, I'm older than Chris Paul too,

that bugs me out. Um, but like Hooping with Chris Paul is like Hooping with your older brother, your uncle, who's going to coach you mid game. Like y'all have pickups in your life. Right.

Oh, I got it. Like, I get it. He's like right there, right there, right there. Yeah.

But it helps both of them, right? Low, low, risk, one year, but he's going to get Wimby the ball, put the ball in certain situations, teach him how to put him in positions of how to score better. You know what I mean? Like probably we don't get a Wimby three unless Wimby just hot. You know what I mean?

It's more of a smarter like, hey, when I go this way, you know what I mean? Because Paul's responsible for my former teammate's success, Tyson Chandler. You know what I'm saying? Oh, did you go to Dominguez? I went to Dominguez. Okay, yep.

Yeah, so, you know, in those scenarios, you got to look at it like Tyson was a small fort with the Bulls. Bad organization. You know what I mean? For a guy who ain't never took one three in high school. And you got him playing small forward, Eddie Curry, the four and five switching. You know what I mean? Like that's bad.

So Chris Paul was able to like get him back in the position of like catch, lob catch, you know. But now he going to be able to feed Wimby. You know, they going to be able to do some stuff. And then getting Harrison Barnes. That team is going to go to bed on time. They're going to have no extra nights out. They're going to drink their wine with Pop.

And they're going to be the most professional team ever. And they're going to know every rule in the book. And if they can get Laurie Markin in too, that would be interesting. Do you think they're ready to make a run with this current roster? Not a run at the title,

but be in the postseason with current roster? Do you think they need a Markkinen? I think they got it. I think they got it enough to be playing and figure it out from there. Just because the team's just disciplined. I don't think them two players hurt them. I think with Wimby in itself,

I think Wimby's going to be like a 24 to 27-point player a game, right? Yeah. And then that team is going to be smarter and veteran-led. You don't need Chris Paul to do a lot. You got Stephen Castle coming off the bench if he starts or whatever. I don't know how they're going to use that, but he's going to learn and become better. I give him like a 35 to 40 game window before he starts getting into like,

I get it. And they're going to be really disciplined. Pop teams are always disciplined, and they're going to trust the system. And look night and day from the team last year yeah all right so who should i how far should i uh have them going so if i'm gonna put money on it at least first round like birth playoff yeah i would go that deep like where they're like in the battle of 10 and 7 you get what i'm saying yeah we're like they could beat somebody to get up to that. But I'm not going to

be like, oh, they're top 5. No, for sure. But either way, how many games did they win last year? 22 games last year. Vegas has them winning 36 and a half. I'm banging the over on that if I'm betting money. Because they're not done.

They're not done. I think they're going to, like, they're not about to bring Chris Paul on to tank to get Cooper Flagg. You know what I'm saying? Like, they're not about to punt this year.

This year is about to be in a positive direction, but they're getting off all these toxic players. Not saying they're toxic, but, like, they're selfish as hell. Right.

There's players that don't, that aren't going to propel them forward. They were frustrating to watch sometimes last year. Because you know why we there. You know why we was watching it. So Team USA went 5-0 in the showcase games. They start with Serbia on Sunday in Paris. I don't feel like my main takeaway from the showcase games is like, why are so many of these so close? My other takeaway was Lebron james is amazing but the are you guys feeling confident heading in i i just reflexively i think there's just so much historical momentum aside from you know a couple off years but i've i don't know i mean the one thing is,

it's completely different than where we started. Like if we're saying 92 is the beginning of this experiment of dream teams and where we are now, like that stat about, what was it? In 92, there were only nine NBA players in the Olympics outside of the dream team. This year, they're facing 61.

And that's, in a way, it's's really just i don't even know if i'm necessarily being like they gotta win i'm like this is actually gonna be really i feel like this is gonna be fun yeah i think the thing is it's not a fair comparison to the dream team because the dream team beat belta basically put belta ass to all these countries so much that they inspired the next generation to focus and take basketball serious as a sport. This is the boom, you know what I'm saying?

We're going to actually try to like go get some players to like join on and start having our young guys develop and build that chemistry. Like some of these guys have been playing together since they were 14 years old, and they're like 33 now. You know what I mean? So like you can't teach that that chemistry. that certain chemistry. But, um, my takeaways from team USA right now, Steve Kerr, you pissing me off. Um, because,

you know, I'm seeing that response a lot from a lot of people. He's a good coach, but like the idea that you got to run the offense through Joel and B, you do not. That's not how this works. You're not using the best... As a Sixers fan, I can tell you, you should not do that when you have these other options.

You know what I'm saying? But you're just like, in general, you're just not... That's not how... That's the best support for the team. Anthony Edwards, the ball sticks. Love AE, but not in this setting. I think the best roster out there is drew holiday ron james steph curry um bam out of bio anthony davis you know what i'm saying yeah yeah i mean anthony davis for sure the one that i have a question about but um i'm with bam

though i'm with bam on the defensive end I don't need Bam to be shooting threes and things of that nature, but they're solid. I don't love that Tyrese Halliburton just fell out of the rotation. Derek White, I do not want to see you on the floor. Chow's to you. NBA champion, good player, but

this isn't a force. Everybody shouldn't be playing. I think we get... you know what I mean? Like, now that we've kind of figured things out. Yeah. It feels like a YMCA coach who's like, all right, so you guys, you five go in, and now in the second quarter, you five go in. Five go in.

You know what I'm saying? But it's not solely on him. You know what I mean? I think these are the mixed reports that come out, and people will be like, well, why is he there?

Why are they sending Kawhi home? This is fishy. And it's just like, no, he'd been wanting to play. He'd been ready to play for the past two games, but they just move in precaution. You know what I'm saying?

They like, do we really need him? You know what I mean? On an emergency break glass. And it's like, if you aren't a hundred percent, the players are always going to say, I'm good to go coach.

You know what I mean? And I do think that he's a good 85%, right? Wants to be out there, could contribute, but it's like, at what cost? I think we got this. You know what I mean? When you really feel that it ain't sore, we ain't got a million ice packs on you, you know what I mean? Right.

You good. But he's ready to play. I ain't got a chance to chop it up with him you know what i mean out there and he ready it wasn't no thing of like oh you can't play it's just that everybody gotta be um on board and aligned with that you know i mean the same way how you'll be like why like why not playing back to back right there's a system it's set like you know? Like, it doesn't work that way. Same thing, AD. Dumb dudes really want to play. It's not that they'd be really hurt.

Like, it'd be like, nah, you know what? He played 40 minutes. We probably not trying to. We need him. You know what I mean? Like, that's the thing. We ain't getting no more 82 games unless you like Mikel Bridges. But the expectations ain't that high on

him as a top 10 guy you know i'm saying like right i need you to play at least 65 games yeah who yeah i mean we i think we talked about this last time we were talking about team usa jack but like i guess again after seeing this who of the teams that would the that team usa are gonna face like i mean the odds have it right now that it looks like i guess canada has the best odds that you know they're plus 1100 but like that yeah canada's plus 1100 france is plus 1200 serbia's plus 1600 the usa is minus 500 like the usa is a big favorite a big betting favorite which i don't know i guess that makes sense historically but also i mean historically this same coaching staff and some of these same players lost in the world championships you know fairly recently was that

last year the year before but there doesn't seem to be that separation so i think it's going to take just perfect execution on the coaching and then from the players and seeing the way lebron's taking a leadership role i feel like they're going to get it from the players but i think they need to figure some things out in terms of the rotations and not just us figuring it out for them they have to actually listen to us steve kerr right i do think that they do pay attention. I think that it just needs to be some fine-tuning in those things. I don't think that LeBron

going the way he's going about it to win ball games for them is going to help them in the long run. And some true adversity, right? LeBron's still very good. I do think that he's a top-ten player. All that best player in the world stuff, I'm not really taking.

And it's kind of a flash of what he's going to be. I honestly, I'm more impressed that he's been able to keep up at this, this pace of what he's supposed to do. But I always thought I wanted him to become in year 18 to 20 Carl Malone, right? Understanding how to use your body the right way and becoming a good post player. You know what I'm saying? Just because he could dominate in that space.

He's literally bigger than everybody. You know what I'm saying? What if Carl Malone and John Stockton were the same person there you go there you go yeah because he's i mean he's been he's been great on ball i think he dribbles a little i think he takes a little bit more time to kind of show off his hey i've been working on my dribble thing a little bit but in actuality like you know i i really wish he would go to the block but he's he's he's helpful out there you know i mean on some catch and shoot because steve kerr's not running step off the uh off the screens enough right and using it for that yeah all right let me hear everybody's gold silver and bronze predictions for for basketball because i mean the us has Serbia first Serbia's got Jokic
