Mike Tyson's journey to recovery reminds us that no fight is easy.
With every bumpy start, each setback and moments that could have broken him,
he kept pushing forward.
I never knew what the spiral was coming up in my life.
I never knew I was going to go in there deep to this hopelessness
and how so many millions of people feel like that but have no help.

And you know, the Lakers not looking too bad as well.
We're going to take a quick spin around the league with the athletics, Jason Jones on
today's episode.
That means I'm Miles Gray
and I'm Jack O'Brien and this is Miles and Jack are mad boosties. There you go. And Vee driving, spinning, fading, hitting!
Batter number 18 has been secured. The Southwarker NBA champions.
Over the double team.

No show time. What you got, Yannis?
Jason Jones!
Covered culture for the end.
And he's back, and he's back, and he's back.
He's back formally, a Sac B beat writer for many years.
Welcome back to Mazel to Jackout, Matt Bustes.
How you been, man?
I've been all right, you know, enjoying this life
where I don't have to go to every single game
for any particular team,
and I can just kind of parachute and with my league pass and check out everyone and I have to write about it.
So it's fun.
Yeah, must be nice. Must be nice.
Just you can be a fan again. You can be a fan.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I can actually enjoy basketball and not watch it and go, oh my God,
what am I going to write about or oh, man, like the best part is trade
deadline season when I don't
have to sit around and like not have a life for like two weeks and chase every
internet rumor so I like what's the like experientially what's the difference
between when you're writing like I guess you just have what are the difference
in thoughts you have watching just casually and knowing you have to write
this game up I kind of look now for this different type of themes and big picture stuff
or what I do now, I can just look at like, wow, what type of shoes are they wearing now?
Maybe that could be a story.
Oh, he's designing his own.
Oh, you know, who's got the best shoes in the league right now?
I don't know. Yeah, I'm a retro guy.
I mean, I was always I grew up a big Nike guy,
but they really haven't made a whole lot in the last, I don't know. Yeah, I'm a retro guy. I mean, I was I grew up a big Nike guy, but they really haven't made a whole lot in the last, I don't know, decade
where I was like, wow, I got to have I think I got a couple of parrionis's.
Oh, yeah. OK.
That I really haven't been like, wow, Nike's making some, you know, you know, so.
Yeah, I'm the same way.
It's all red rose for me.
Yeah, I'm all about the alternative,
you know, alternative color ways and stuff like that.
New Balance has some crazy different things they do know.
So I'm all about whatever looks different, you know, so. Right.
That's more my thing than anything.
Yeah. New Balance says Maxie Cooper flag, Kawhi Leonard,
maybe not the number one person to be signing right now,
but New Balance has some players. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They've picked, they've identified the right talent.
I just saw De'Aaron Fox's new shoe.
That looks pretty-
His new balance is?
It's like green and purple.
No, Under Armour, because he wears Currys.
Ooh, interesting.
Anyway, speaking of which, the Kings, De'Aaron Fox,
I think the law still remains intact, Jack, from the Mad, Mad Jack,
I'm mad boosties law of scoring 60 and then you lose score 70 is for losers.
You got to put up 70 or you're going to lose.
If you get to 60 and then you can't get to 70, you're going to lose.
That's what we've learned over the past few seasons.
I think that like last season, what it was when Embiid put up like 70 and then
Cat put up 62 in a loss to the Hornets and we're like, see?
Cat put up 62 in a loss and his coach was like, well, that was terrible.
Like, it was like, we're going to trade this guy for pennies
on the dollar because that was an embarrassment.
He was disgusted with him.
He was like, some guys decided they just wanted to keep doing like geez. Yeah, right
60 right. Yeah 60 is for losers 70s for closers. Yeah, but Darren Fox put up 60 and a loss
Because and was not having it that particular game. Yeah
His best dunks of the season. I put up 36 huge comeback I don't know Minnesota might be getting things back on track the Lin numbers. Not bad for a guy who's not known to be a crazy score like that.
But, you know, they got some guys injured, so that was the most more like, hey,
Darren has to do something. Right. Right.
So he's going to, you know, he's going to do what he can to try to win the game.
But I don't think the king's recipe is going to be, you know, what if Darren
can average about 45, 50 a night? Right.
So what if our point guard scored every time down the court?
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't think I don't think that's what you want to do.
But I think it's cool for Darren, you know, except for the loss part 60.
Right. Right.
You know, just because the getting 60 is not a no.
Of course, Wilt did it a bunch of times, you know, but like
You're not talking about like a whole lot of guys who have hit that 60-point mark
Yeah, I felt like last season we had a lot didn't we?
Almost every other week we were talking about 60-point games. Yeah, no one plays deep doesn't one stop anybody, you know, right, right
But I mean the one thing I haven't been watching I've just you know, I've seen the Kings
Occasionally, but I haven't kept my eye on it, but I have been curious, you know somebody who previously had their eye on them
How's the mark been looking with them? He's fit in well, you know, you know
Go out there does the mark things get his I think he's off guy with the streak was open near a 20-point games
I mean he's getting this, you know, I was kind of wondering how you would fit him because so much of what the Aaron
does is in the mid range. So much, you know, so bonuses in that mid, you know,
that mid high post, like where are you going to fit this? I mean, it's worked.
With no, their problems been, they can't make three pointers anymore. Right.
Like this is really weird, you know,
but I think not having Malik Monk is a part of that. But yeah, they just haven't been a great,
they haven't shot the way they normally had. I would get the Spurs.
They're like three at 26. Right. You know, so I just, you know, but yeah,
they're, but also death to their, what they're like with right now at the time
where we're eight and seven, they has lost to Atlanta. And part of what,
when they had that real good season a couple of years ago,
they like had almost no injuries to anyone that was, you know,
like they're like top eight or nine guys, like missed almost no games.
It felt like, right. Yeah. And it's almost like now it's gone back the other way.
Now you're losing guys. Game five, game 10. Yeah.
It's a reversion to the mean is a thing that I say all the time because I'm smart and good
at math.
And I know what those words mean.
I do.
I know what mean means.
I like to tell them that an outlier like that, that bad run of help with an outlier, you're
not going to see that again.
Yeah.
That's anomalous.
As some would say.
Yeah.
It's so crazy.
You got to throw it out because it would probably never happen again. some would say. Yeah. Crazy. You got to throw it out.
It would probably never happen again.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
I don't know.
It feels it's wild to me that the Kings are playing well.
It seems like they're playing well.
They're eight and seven and they are at 10th in the plans, like the very last playing spot ahead of the Mavericks, who made it to the Western
out of the Western Conference last year to the finals, who are seven and seven.
Meanwhile, over on the East Coast, the Eastern Conference,
my Philadelphia 76ers are two and eleven
and three games out of the play in tournament.
So that's how things are going over here.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
What do you how many games behind?
It's wild to think of how many doubled like the double digit advantages
Cleveland already has on so many people in the East at this point.
Yeah, we're 12 games back.
12 games back. OK.
All right.
But I mean, you know, you just chip away, you know.
Yeah.
13 games into the season were 12 games back.
That doesn't even sound real.
It could be going better, I'll say.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, it sounded like there was a lot of, you know, some crisis talks after that, that heat game.
Miles, I could care less about the team struggling.
Thanks, Joe.
I know. I know.
I mean, yeah, it's always interesting when you hear a report about, hey,
could you please be on time? Right. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
I guess that matters.
Like to some people, I guess, maybe.
If you're two and eleven, does it really matter?
Sure. Exactly.
But I guess so.
Yeah. So you're going to win three more games
because your best player is going to be on time.
Is that all I'm going to say? Yeah.
OK.
Joel Embiid has always talked about the process, right? Thinking long term,
think long term for your franchise. Uh, the 76ers lose. We have our pick, uh, next year,
protected one through six. We need this pick to be top six. And what is going to be a pretty decent draft. Cooper flag, we're in, we got the flag position, flag pole position in next year's draft right
now as the worst team in the NBA tied with Washington.
I'm just saying maybe the old son of a gun sandbagging us.
You know what I'm saying?
He's just trying to do what's best for the future of the 76ers.
He's letting Jared McCain, he's, you know, laying back, letting the rookie get some reps up.
Jared McCain has looked great. His last six games, he's put up 18, 27, 23, 34, 29, 20.
He's shooting a very high percentage on a lot of three point attempts per game.
All the pieces are right where we want them.
A lot of people are panicking.
Me and Joel are sitting back and it's 15 minutes past the time we were supposed to show up
for practice, but we're chilling because we're trusting the process.
The process just happens to be ongoing and taking a little bit longer than anybody was expecting.
I mean, even when you look at the 2016, 17 process sixers, they started at three
and 10. Yeah.
Their first and beat missed four of those games, but you know, they won three,
they won three in those first 13. So, you know,
wait, when Embiid was playing, you're calling that that the process sixers the process sixers started before we drafted
Joel Embiid. I mean that season. Yeah with his rookie year his rookie. Yeah his rookies. Yes
Covering a game when the process sixers came to Sacramento and they won the game and like immediately within like a day or two
Everyone who played well in that game got traded.
Yeah. Yeah.
It was like, hold up. This is not no, no, no.
You all know what process are we undergoing here? Yeah. Yeah.
It's like watching a game.
It's like watching Major League, that movie where they're just everyone.
Like they they win a game like a regular NBA regular season game
and like storm the court.
Right, right, right.
Like, oh my God.
But anyways, this is, I think not how a lot of Sixers fans saw the season going.
And they're just, they're weak, those Sixers fans.
This is fine with me.
You saw, yeah, I said, you earlier said you found comfort in this.
I'll just say. You saw it. Yeah. I said you earlier said you found comfort in this.
I'll just say in this record. I go into things very pessimistic.
And it turns out I'm rarely disappointed
and rarely pleasantly surprised either.
And that's working out great for me.
Also, I'm a die easy fan.
So, you know, I'm open to being recruited.
Take me on a recruiting trip to be a fan of your team, guys. I'm happy.
Rough for Philly, you know, the Phillies flamed out in the postseason. The Eagles are winning
games.
Yeah, the Eagles look pretty good. I'm only a Sixers fan. So like, I don't even get the
good teams from Philadelphia.
You gotta work on that. You can't do that to yourself.
We gotta sit down and talk about that.
Yeah, we gotta, we gotta drop a list of other other teams and you know, get you a feel good,
you know, get you a football team, get your mind off of this.
Cause yeah, this is one of my best friends is a Sixers fan.
He wanted to return my text now.
Yeah.
Oh no.
He spent all last year making fun of me, talk about how the Lakers won the end season
tournament.
Ha ha ha.
And now I'm like, yeah. You got something to say? Last year, making fun of me talking about how the Lakers won the in season tournament, ha ha ha.
And now I'm like, yeah.
You got something to say now at all.
Yeah. He made you, I'm like, I'm like, we're going to play into last year.
Yeah.
When you, I think right at this rate, they'll take the plan and be happy with
it if they, you know, yeah, they haven't had like since MB's been back maxi hasn't played much
So yeah, we're we're just working our way into shape
And you know, we'll be ready for when the regular season starts. Oh wait, what?
Okay, I'm being told the regular season started 13 games back
Around all star break it when the season really starts though.
And that, exactly.
Exactly.
That's no really pick it up.
That's right.
Reset the clock then.
We reset the clock then.
Cool.
All right.
You want to talk about the Lakers?
Should we take a break?
Yeah, let's take a break.
We'll come back.
We'll talk some Lakers and it's maybe and some positive Bucs news maybe.
I know the last couple of times you've been like, but maybe a little bit of that was the
one thing that Sixers fans had is like, yeah, but look at the bucks. They've got everyone in their bed.
Yeah. And now what now and beads back and now look at us. Yeah. All right. We'll be right back.

On Thanksgiving Day, 1999,
a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean.
He had lost his mother trying to reach
Florida from Cuba.
He looked like a little angel. I mean he looks so fresh.
And his name, Elian Gonzalez, will make headlines everywhere.
Elian Gonzalez.
At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with.
His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him.
Or his relatives in Miami.
Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom.
At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation.
Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well.
Listen to Ches Piz, the Elian Gonzalez story,

And we're back!
And you know, Jack, we were saying earlier, I know of a team that started pretty terribly
a few seasons ago and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
So worry not, worry not.
The Lakers did do that.
So but right now, looking not bad at nine and four.
I continue to be pleased with the JJ Reddick experience.
And just seeing-
My favorite boy band.
The JJ Reddick experience, yeah, yeah.
Just seeing, you know, AD, you know,
in the form that he's in has been fantastic.
While, you know, that game against the Spurs,
just sunning Wemby felt just,
my heart is beginning to thaw a
bit over the last few seasons.
Um, how's it been for you, Jason?
Just, uh, you know, I know, I know you may have an affinity for the Lakers.
Are you?
I've enjoyed it.
I've enjoyed, uh, JJ, I hadn't, I hadn't dubbed it the JJ Redick experience yet.
You were calling it JJ Redick and the Rippers.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
I had, I've really enjoyed this with JJ's done.
It feels like for the first time in a while, they've got some energy at the coaching spot.
Yeah.
It's like, you know, I don't know what it, you know, what it is, you know, but
the hands are out of the pockets.
Most of the time.
My main drawback before they hired him was just that, you know, JJ had been,
his name had been circulated as a coaching candidate before. I just wish he had didn't
have a podcast with the star player because I just made it look, you know, I'm like, oh,
this has got to work or it's going to look, you know, terrible. But I mean, when I watch
them offensively, I like what they're doing. You know, I think they still, you know, know Couldn't they need some you know, maybe not the Jared Vanderbilt could play again one day, you know
Yeah, you know, but I like what I've seen from them overall so far, you know
Eventually, they'll win more than two games on the road. Hopefully, you know two three games. Yeah
Yeah, we'll see, you know, you know, it's crazy to think they hadn't been six and over at home since like
hadn't been fixing over at home since like. Bike in the Kobe days, right?
Yeah, no, I guess.
Well, they had even won a home.
They had won a season opener like
and Lebron even won one as a Laker.
I feel like maybe once because I I remember just my
I just got used to being like this.
The first game of season is going to be an L
like the momentum as a fan had just felt like I'm having trouble
recalling when the last time that happened.
So when that happened this season, I was like, OK, we're back.
We're back. We're back.
Just off of the strength of that.
I mean, I've enjoyed what I've seen.
I've enjoyed, you know, I think JJ's.
I mean, he's like crazy, like in a good way, though. Right.
So he's like he's like that, you know, he's yeah.
Yeah, he's he's he's different. I mean, he's like he's like that, you know, he's yeah Yeah, he's he's he's different. I mean he's like
What's your message to the players that was the message?
Yeah, right exactly and also
Like I didn't know the pressure where they lost the game and he pretty much was like the effort was poor
I didn't like this and they said well, how do you convey that methods to the players? I just did. Right. Right. Yeah.
And it's good to see him just like reward players who have like really been
putting in like a good shift and listening and, you know, being like, hey,
you know what? That's playing time for you.
Rather than kind of being like, I look, I kind of got it.
I got to kind of make these guys work for a second.
And yeah, Dalton Connect continues to to make me
very excited for the future.
But yeah, I don't know.
That's enough enough about how good things are going with the.
Yeah, I just enjoy what I mean.
The last few years, I'm used to being like three and seven or
just some type of something going wrong, you know, two and ten, two and eleven.
So it's horrible like that.
You know, you know, but hey, you know, two and ten to an eleven, something horrible like that. You know, but hey, you know,
wondering if A.D. is going to get to the game on time, just all type of just problems.
Yeah, sure.
The A.D.'s been like he's been, you know, amazing out there this year.
And defensively, I'm not surprised, but, you know,
we've heard for how many years they're going to make A.D.
the focus of the offense, they're going to do this.
And this never happens.
So maybe it will actually happen and last more than like three or four games, you know,
and.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's second in the league in scoring like barely.
He's right behind Janice.
He's only dishing out 2.6 assists a night, but like a lot of hockey assists and just,
yeah, like he said, everything's going through him.
Shooting 43% from three, not on a lot of attempts, but like at least when he gets them out there.
And then he's, I think he's like playing some of the best defense in the league right now. Um, and put up a 40, 12, two blocks on Friday night. Then
another 34, 14, two steals first, the Pelicans the next night. Um, yeah, I don't know. He,
he's currently for MVP. Uh, I feel like this is what Lakers fans have been waiting for
to see from him. I didn't know how realistic it was.
I mean, that was never happened.
So I'm just, you know, I'm just hoping and praying that he stays healthy
because every time I see that man fall down and even like show his teeth, I'm I
start sweating, but then he gets up.
So it's OK.
Crazy. Now, if you close your eyes and just you say those numbers, I think you're
talking about Shaq, you're like 40 and Tuiya. Like it's crazy. Now, if you close your eyes and just you say those numbers, I think you're talking about Shaq.
You're like 40 and Tuiya, it's like it's right.
So I mean, I'm just going to get across my fingers.
Every time he fall, he winces.
I'm like, you please.
Please don't hit him in the face.
Please. I'm like, ah,
I just get scared.
I'm like, oh, my God, he, you know, he's tying his shoe.
OK, right, right, right. Exactly.
It's it's just crazy, too, though, because he's not even like the most injured player in the league by far.
But I just think Laker fans are now just traumatized to believe that anytime AD like
runs a little slow or, you know, anything, it's like, Oh God, he's going to be out three weeks.
Oh yeah. Well, cause we're conditioned to be like, whenever whenever he's like he needs to be healthy. He needs to be healthy
So any wobble from that is yeah feels existential. Yeah
Yeah, it looks like yeah, he's getting close to use it most career games with 40 plus points 10 plus rebounds Anthony Davis has
36 Shacks got 43
So, you know, he's not far off. He's not far off.
I would have never guessed he was that close. Yeah. Yeah. Just seven more games.
AD is tied with Elvin Hayes in ninth place, but yeah, good times ahead. The Bucks.
Yeah. I mean, like obviously Cleveland is the big story in the Eastern Conference. They're
playing to remain undefeated against Boston tonight. It's crazy that they're as good as they are.
They play beautiful basketball. They're an amazing team.
The Bucks had been my one solace as a Sixers fan because they were bad while,
you know, having their two best players. And now they're, they seem to be putting it
together.
They're five and nine have won three of four and are right in the hunt because the Eastern
Conference is bad.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Real, real tight.
The sixth seed is Miami at six and seven.
I mean, Cleveland is just winning all the games I
guess. Yeah. There's one way to look at it. What are they looking at the Bucs?
They're a good game behind Detroit for seventh. Yeah exactly. Yeah Detroit in
seventh at seven and nine. The Bucs had a good game against the Rockets who also
a don't look now team.
They are now 10 and five, seven and three over the last 10.
And the bucks were able to pull it out with like a Dame
game winner that came after a game saving block from Yanis.
It's kind of weird.
Yanis like didn't really celebrate when Dame put it in.
I don't know what their relationship is like, but yeah,
I don't know.
What do you, what do you do with this roster?
What do you think that this is a blip and they're going to be bad?
Do you think the bad at the beginning of the season was a blip?
What do you say for the bucks, Jason?
I don't think they're going to be this, but I, I'm,
I don't have a lot of faith that the East is going to keep them in the bottom
10, 12 range. I think there's enough bad teams in the East that when you get to about February,
they will have piled up a few, you know, you know, the, they'll play the Utah's,
they'll play the Portland, you know, they'll, they'll start to get, they'll
start them, you know, getting around 500.
Then they become that proverbial.
We don't want to play that team in the first round team.
If they're right there, if they're like five or lower like no one wants to play Yannis and Dame, you know
You know and Chris Middleton gonna play again or
Yeah, we don't really know. I mean he had double ankle surgery, which seems bad
But we got a two-for-one deal. I think that's what happened. Yeah
Yeah, there's no other one free they're like wait might as well take care of them both
but yeah, he has no timetable as of four days ago. So
That's and also like didn't fully look like himself consistently when he was back last season
So I think that's why I'm at least not putting them in that same category of like, yeah
They're just like, you know, one of their best players is hurt. And once he's back, they'll be fine because who knows, you know,
um,
if and when Chris plays again, but that, no, having Dame and Yannis together,
you know, you would have sought, I thought there was much to do about nothing
about the whole, they didn't work out enough in the summer together.
I'm like, I don't know what you, I'm not a big believer that you guys working
out in the gym together is I'm like, I don't know what you. I'm not a big believer that you guys working out in the gym together is going to be why.
Yes, I had a montage from my 80s movie.
Like the season turned when, you know, when Janice flew out to Portland
and they went to the gym and they shot free throws together and talked and.
Yeah. Ran on the beach. Yeah.
With lots of other.
Yes. No, they they met up.
They met. They met up in Greece.
You know, all Janice was, you know, visiting friends back there and they whatever.
I have way more faith in them than I do in Philly.
Really? Yeah.
Just a tad bit.
Tad bit. Wow.
I mean, I coached by Doc Rivers.
They are coached by Doc Rivers.
I think Nick is a pretty good coach.
Still. We'll see. We'll coached by doc rivers. I think Nick is a pretty good coach. Still we'll see.
We'll see.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, and you know, I just feel bad for them too, because the memes between doc and
darvin ham sitting together or just.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're, they're, they're killing the, I mean, like, but I think they'll, they're
going to figure something out.
I think they'll make a run and then I mean, are we but I think they're going to figure something out. I think they'll make a run. And then, I mean, are we going to really believe?
I don't know if I can count on the Brooklyn's and the Detroit's and all of them
to, you know, to hold those guys down.
Right. So we're going to introduce a new segment, which I think you're going to
be very helpful for because you have league pass.
You're watching the games around the league.
We want to we want to pick a game from the next week that I can tell my wife,
babe, I have to watch this for work.
AKA like a game of the week for the listeners to watch.
And then we'll talk about it next time, but we've preselected a couple.
We've got a warriors versus Spurs on Saturday.
Nuggets at Lakers also on Saturday,
a couple hours after Warriors versus Spurs.
Minnesota at Celtics on Sunday.
And then the Los Angeles Clippers
at the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.
Of those games, or are we, is there another team that everybody should be going out of their way to watch right now that we've, we've missed out on here?
I like those. I mean, you've got Ken, the Lakers beat, no Denver.
Yeah. I'm like three years can they know, you know, and you've got they know Chris Paul going against this or another one of his former teams
Yeah, and the Warriors having to contend with a player over six foot five in the front court, you know, what are they gonna do?
Yeah, you got you got you got you got you know, the Ant Man Jason Tatum Olympic
Netflix series reunion, you know
I mean, yeah, that's the part of me with Lee.
I kind of lean.
I mean, there's, there's like good storylines all the way around.
I mean, you know, Billy, you know, James Harden come, you know, at this point,
so many guys have been out of Philly though with like the return.
Yeah. Okay. Whatever.
Right.
Sixers are also playing Ben Simmons this week and I mean,
everybody there's not going to be a empty seat in the house for that or a dry
eye games in Philly. Yeah.
I imagine he'll get a warm reception and you know,
everyone will be nice and you know, cordial to him.
Give him standing ovation for all. Yeah. I mean in Philadelphia, I think he can pretty much.
Yeah, I have no doubt about that, but.
Yeah, they've already turned on Embiid.
I don't think they're gonna be nice to Ben Simmons.
You think they fully turned on Embiid already?
Is it, there's still some goodwill left
before we think it goes full Philadelphia sports fans, right?
There could be some goodwill left.
There might be.
We don't know.
Yeah.
The difference that I was that MB doesn't have that Ben Simmons buffer.
Right.
Yeah.
There was not that clear because I mean, they're not going to turn on Maxey.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Yeah.
I don't know if Paul mean, you know, Paul Dries has been Larry long enough.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That one hasn't burnt.
That candle hasn't burnt all the way down.
Yeah, but he's also only had, I think, one 20 point game this season.
All the planes had five.
It's not looking great.
All right. So we're going to go nuggets at the Lakers.
Should we do that one?
Oh, well, it sounded like sound like you were saying that's
I don't even have to look at that because, I mean, I think we're one in nine against the nuggets in the regular the nuggets are worse this season and the Lakers are a better
Yeah, like no debt. I mean all their depth from two years ago is like not the same and
If if JJ is not going to start D'Angelo Russell
Continue that that kind of neutralizes,
at least at the start of the game, Jamal Murray becoming Michael Jordan.
Right. Yeah.
I feel like Jamal Murray owes all his nose is his contract extension
to the fact that he got to go against D'Angelo Russell and it
off the reefs at the same in the same game.
And now for what, how many playoff games in a row?
I mean, it just killed me to watch him then go to play for Team Canada.
And I'm like, hold up having them, the Michael Jordan of the maple.
Yeah, you're having that guy.
Who is this guy?
Who is this? Yeah, who's this?
More than I in that before, you know, for every reason,
Jamal Murray sees the Lakers and, you know, becomes Superman.
You've got you've got MVP level, you know, you know, AD against Joker.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No.
And, you know, unfortunately, you know, uh, they're dead.
Uh, Aaron Gordon still out, right?
Yeah, I believe so.
Thanks.
So, you know, you know, I don't know who guards LeBron, you know, so I mean,
there's, there's gonna be some interesting things, you know,
so then what's your pick of those?
I know we, there's a lot of intrigue for all four of those games between warrior spurs
Nuggets Lakers
Timber Wolf Celtics Clippers Sixers
La biases and go Laker nuggets. All right, only not away into my biases, you know
Why that's okay because nobody's ever used the show of having an LA by
Yeah, you know my guy Michael Mal's going to say something crazy before. Yeah.
You know, there's going to be, there's going to be other stuff going on, you
know? And yeah, that's the one, you know, all right.
That'll be fun.
Boost these listeners. You got your homework.
We're all tuning in to the nuggets at Lakers on Saturday and we'll hear that
babe. I have to watch it.
I can't I can't not watch it.
All right.
We will. Yeah.
And you might hear me crying.
Who knows or celebrate?
I don't know.
I don't know.
But I am putting way too much into this game.
I think.
You know why that one's going to be interesting, too.
That as intense as JJ is, imagine the Lakers like it like dog walked by Denver.
I just want to hear the JJ Redick presser. Yeah. Yeah.
That's an all time possible postgame press.
Oh, Malone on one side, Redick on the other. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
There's just so many reasons why this, you know, you can't compare that to Missoula and
Finch. You know, Missoula might be good, but I can't recall.
I don't think Finch is nearly as quotable as JJ Reddick.
Right. Yeah.
I think you're right about that.
All right. We've got it.
It's set. Yeah.
Set your clocks Saturday, November 23rd on NBA TV.

We're also turning to fellow athletes and beyond to learn about their parenthood journeys

On Thanksgiving Day 1999,
a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean.
He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba.
He looked like a little angel.
I mean, he looked so fresh.
And his name, Elian Gonzalez,
will make headlines everywhere.
Elian Gonzalez.
Elian, Elian.
Elian Gonzalez.
Elian.
Elian.
Elian Gonzalez.
At the heart of the story is a young boy
and the question of who he belongs with.
His father in Cuba.
Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home
and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him.
Or his relatives in Miami.
Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom.
At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation.
Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well.

Jason, man, we love having you,
but this is the time where we got to, I got to put my biases aside, my biases.
And it's time to cook the person in the hot seat.
You know, he's a nice guy.
Let's not do it.
No, I know.
I know.
I know.
And he's from the best coast too.
But we know not these things do not protect you when you're in the fourth quarter.
Wrap a fire round of questions, questions, questions, segment and all sports podcast
history. Okay. So we're gonna ask you a in the fourth quarter. Rapid fire round of questions, the fastest question, answer segment in all sports podcasting history.
Okay.
So we're going to ask you a question you already know, just reply as quick as you can and if you, if you slow the segment down, we will be rude.
Okay.
And then we will apologize off mic because we do want to keep our on air
personas intact and hidden from the office.
So sorry.
So sorry.
Oh, Hey, I'm so sorry.
I know, no hard feelings about that. Hey, yeah
Apologin like Canadians out here, but gotta ask you. Are you ready ready? Okay, Jason Jones is ready Brian start the clock
This one's gonna this one's gonna shatter all the records who's going first you going
Yeah, why don't you go first Miles?
Okay Jason you a Sopranos fan? No. Uh oh. Alright. Jason. Audible. Audible. Audible. Audible.
Audible. You a wire fan? Yeah. Okay okay okay okay okay got it got it got it okay okay um
that did throw us off. First question for you. We're playing
pick up hoops with characters from the wire and we just got
the first pick and took wood Harris. Okay. Now,
gave on bark sale, right?
Yeah. Yeah. Now you got to now you have to pick somebody you
can now pick anybody else. We got the first pick but that's
what we want wood Harris. Now, what do you have next?
I'm going to go with a I'm not forgetting his name.
Hurry.
He's a character.
I'm playing on his name, but.
Idris Elba's stringer bell.
Yes, I'm going to.
Oh, oh, no, no, that's a choice.
I'm interested.
No, it's fair.
Feel like Chris might be good, Chris, no, that's a nice choice. I'm interested. No, it's fair. Feel like Chris might be good.
Chris, like from season four.
Oh, maybe with Snoop.
Maybe. Yeah.
I feel like there was a basketball scene in the wire.
Maybe I feel like I've seen Wood Harris hoop before.
Yeah, Wood Harris would be the clear number one pick.
Yeah. Yeah.
That's why that's why we that's why we talk about one.
Yeah. We always get the number one pick in this question.
Yeah. Sometimes you just pick like a cameo who's the NBA player. Uh, but, um,
all right. Yeah. String about, I mean, so in universe,
he's not British. We know the actor is British. Um,
it's an interesting pick. It's an interesting pick.
Maybe he'll like have good footwork,
footwork like some of the,
your game players.
The re-roll with his,
you know, when it is a pro,
no, he's not going to get,
you know, he's not going to let,
you know, Barksdale just know,
wow, him with the athleticism in the
college basketball background.
I think it would really,
it'll be cerebral out there.
Right.
Yeah.
No brother Mazzone.
We don't think brother Mazam.
That's a good one.
He'd be a sniper from deep.
You know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. That was my favorite brother.
Mazam is that, you know, it wouldn't end well.
Yeah. Yeah. All right.
Has there ever been a basketball performance in a movie
that wasn't an existing NBA player?
It wasn't like blue chips where they just like brought in an NBA player or you know a good basketball player
That didn't while you're watching it give you the it where you weren't like
Are they why is he dribbling like that? Yeah, I'm a big white man can't jump fan. Okay, so that one
Whose performance? I'm a big white man can't jump fan. Okay, so that one because they were whose performance
What do you hear else? Okay, because they do a lot with editing
with Wesley Snipes And you can he's so athletic you can almost believe
that he can hoop and
Then there are some moments where he's dribbling it and it's just like over like literally over his head when he does
A crossover and I do feel like Woody Harrelson
He's got like an ugly jumper, but it does look like somebody like a jumper. That's been taken hundreds of times
You know, he really gives like I'm really out here just trying to hoop
Right. Yeah. Yeah, just trying to hoop. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
Just trying to make it work.
Yeah. You can always go with Marcus Johnson's, you know, character.
Yeah. And Whiteman can jump. Yeah. OK.
Next question.
You have the opportunity to shoot a half course shot for the chance
at winning $50,000, a free throw for $500.
Or you can make a layup for two bucks.
You taking the easy money or you going for it?
Going for the free throw.
I'm going to over 500. Yeah.
Have you ever made a half course shot to the kid just playing around?
Yeah. Just throw the heave in it. Yeah.
Just even though, you know. Yeah.
Is that a tape anywhere we have any?
No, I was back in the 90s.
We weren't didn't have those VHS.
Yeah, those big camp orders and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. The eyepiece that you had to like move your head to the side. the the Okay, good answer. I think it's time for a more in-depth question though, Jack. Okay.
All right. We are going to redraft the 2018 NBA draft. That draft started out with Deandre
Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, and then you got some other people in there who you might take
over those two guys like Luker, Don Cicic, Triple J, Trey, Shay Gilgis,
Alexander Brunson,
Amphony Simons at 24, Mikhail Bridges at 10,
Michael Porter Jr.
Where are you going?
Are you gonna keep eating at number one?
Or who, give us your top three.
My top three now would be Luca,
Shay and Trey and Trey.
Really? Trey over Jalen Brunson.
Hmm. Jalen Brunson, who went what?
Thirty third.
What? Thirty third. Yeah.
It's about.
Big. I'm a I'm a I like.
Wow. Wow.
I used to. OK, I'm a pick'm a try like wow. Wow. I used to
Okay, I'm a pick with tray at three Bronson can maybe you know get there get there at four
Jaren Jackson like at five
It's a great draft and also great evidence that nobody knows anything
because I was covering the kings when that happened. Yeah, and that was
Quite a night
Yeah, marvinley, the third was where he all went instead of Luca,
which a lot of people, you know, will be like, yeah, but that was a long time ago.
People didn't really know. People knew. People knew.
Like there were some people who were like eight and OK,
we'll let you take him at number one because it's still apparently the 1970s
and we think that you need a center to win, but, uh,
people knew Luka Donchich was really good right away. Um, yeah.
Yeah. That was, that was,
that was one of the more awkward post draft catch press conferences ever I've
ever been a part of when a lot of a saying, you know,
Marvin can play all three forward spots for, for, for four. I'm like, he can play small forward.
Yeah, man. Yeah.
But I don't have to, you know, get Luca to be our three man, you know,
because Marvin can play the three and I'm sitting there going, oh, yeah, OK.
Might not work out too well.
Well, well, well, Jason Jones, that was that.
Yeah, actually, when I look at those are all the right answers,
I don't know how you did that.
That's crazy. Let me look at the.
We had a bunch of different answers going in, but now those are all the right.
And free throw.
You think that was the right answer?
And then he said, you know, that works, you know?
Yeah. I don't know how that goes.
Bears. Yeah.
Well, look, we sit corrected and some of us are standing.
But Jason Jones, you have made it through
the fourth quarter wrap five round of questioning.
Thank you so much for joining us
on Miles and Jack Got Mad Boosties.

Yeah. You just wrote an article about how the Shaquille O'Neal checks in at number
seven in the athletics, the basketball 100 star of stars.
Interesting. Yeah.
You know, you know, a little bias about my, you know, everyone knows I love Shaq.
So put the whole we've got a whole book coming out about what our top 100.
So I wrote five or six of the top 100 for us.
Nice. Okay. I think I wrote Shaq, Chris Webber, Bob McAdoo, Kyrie, and there might have been
another one there I wrote too. So yeah. Nice. If you like reading about basketball players, pick it

Mike Tyson's journey to recovery reminds us that no fight is easy.
With every bumpy start, each setback in moments that could have broken him, he kept pushing forward.
I never knew what the spiral was coming up in my life.
I never knew I was going to go in there deep to this hopelessness and how so many millions
of people feel like that but have no help.

It's Peter Schrager.
We're back for the season with Peter Schrager.
In each episode of the season, I'm going to empty my proverbial notebook and take you
