I'm Madison Packer, a pro hockey veteran going on my 10th season in New York. And I'm Anya Packer, a former pro hockey player and now a full Madison Packer stan.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Anya and I met through hockey and now we're married and mom to two awesome toddlers ages two and four. And we're excited about our new podcast, Moms Who Puck, which talks about everything from pro hockey to professional women's athletes to raising children and all the messiness in between. So listen to Moms Who Puck on the iHeart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. video app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Happy holidays from me, Michael Rappaport. My gift to you is a free subscription to the I Am Rappaport Stereo Podcast, where I discuss entertainment, sports, politics, and anything and everything that catches my attention.
Starting point is 00:01:22 I am here to call it as I see it. And there's a whole lot of things catching my eyes these days. Listen to the I Am Rapaport Stereo podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, and wherever you get your podcast. Hi, this is Alex Kansrewicz. I'm the host of Big Technology podcast, a longtime reporter and an on-air contributor to CNBC.
Starting point is 00:01:43 And if you're like me, you're trying to figure out how artificial intelligence is changing the business world and our lives. So each week on Big Technology, I bring on key actors from companies building AI tech, asking where this is all going. They come from places like Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, and plenty more.
Starting point is 00:01:59 So if you wanna be smart with your wallet, your career choices, and at dinner parties, listen to Big Technology podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Well, well, well, look who's come crawling back for some more mad boosties. This is Brian, the editor, that guy that Miles likes to yell at. And while the guys are taking it easy, I decided to whip up a little best of Rapid Fire 2024 featuring Warren Shaw, Lena Washington, Jasmine Watkins, Dan Favalle, Jason Temp, and Dragonfly Jones.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Enjoy. Lena Washington, All-Star Weekend is coming up just very, very soon. Give me your all-time fantasy dunk contest lineup. You're picking four dunkers. Anytime. Anytime. Anytime. Well I have to go Vince Carter just because it's Vince Carter. Well he he existed he Graced a basketball court. He has a pretty decent vertical. So I would assume that he would be able to add some Vince Carter, yeah Not Prince harder Was passing around some highlights from his rookie season and just like some of the dunks like he was doing some of the dunks
Starting point is 00:03:30 That he did in that dunk contest like in game in game as a rookie It was like wild you should so you know and I'm springing it we have to keep this segment moving So okay, so number two of four, I guess, um, maybe Aaron Gordon So that he could prepare super elaborate dunk contests like performance where it's like the drone goes from Lucas oil stadium and then drops the basketball into the or you know, basketball into the
Starting point is 00:04:03 You know Arena and then the LED court lights up and all this stuff and then you know The Pacers mascot comes in and he jumps over him while doing a full 360 like active turn and then yeah losing again Yeah, so I think that's where these dunks designed by Doc Brown You know that in these movies that recent that recent that recent hit film from the 1980s It's designed by Doc Brown. Yeah. From, you know, that 80s movie. That recent hit film from the 1980s. Rube Goldberg. Okay, you got two. Who's turning four?
Starting point is 00:04:34 So that's two. You're obligated to say LeBron James just because Miles, he could be a part of it. He could just like walk up to and over you and then just yeah Or hold me like a baby and be like and be like you're my you yeah Oh, yeah, he rock rocks the cradle, but it's me in his arms and then throws me through the hoop and I do serious injury Medics are involved but this just like envisioning this mountain for a dunk specifically and like who would be able to execute them best.
Starting point is 00:05:10 And then maybe if there's some backstory or context that would add to the pizazz of the show. So only if Biles is involved in LeBron's dunk. Okay, thank you. Thank you. He is pronounced pizzas, but okay. And the fourth, the fourth, you know, how about what was his name? Was it was it Mack McClung who wanted the other?
Starting point is 00:05:38 Oh, yeah. Was that was that his name? That was it. Yeah. Mack Mack. What happened to that young man? Mac the Lung McClung Was that last season? Shoot Yeah, was it?
Starting point is 00:05:54 I feel like it was Time flies when you're sipping the Mac McClung Kool-Aid I know Is he in the G League now? I don't know what happened to G I don't I don't know what happened. I haven't followed his career Lena. Unfortunately, you did not specify years for Vince Carter So it will be modern-day Vince Carter and the dunk contest Unfortunately, so I think he was still
Starting point is 00:06:23 Yeah alright, so Was that yeah, that was good, you know, yeah, it was not fast enough, but you nailed it. Anyways, it was highly entertaining What school yard game do you want to see added to the All-Star weekend? It can be you know, I think we said we were saying the Pro Bowl we've we've seen do dodgeball and Tug of War what game would you like to see NBA players? compete against one another I'll give I'll give three. Okay Wow, just because I can't choose and I know I know this is like a really like I have to answer quickly
Starting point is 00:06:58 But I just wanted to be really thorough. So the first would be four square because I know athletes can be very competitive. Yeah. Yeah. These pool yard games and gotta play house rules or cherry popcorn. No popcorn. What are we talking about? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that Red Rover. Could you imagine? Just to see the pure violence of being clotheslined by running at full speed into your friends,
Starting point is 00:07:27 maybe some broken, maybe, you know, on phones popping out. Yeah, it could be like that last survivor show where all of the like most powerful people in the government get blown up and Kiefer Sutherland is like the guy who is designated survivor and like it would be the NBA version that where all the best players just have their arms like ripped out of their sockets and so it's like and Mackleclung is back in it y'all from the G League. Mackleclung is leading the league in scoring in the playoffs. And then the third I would probably want to see is tether ball because they're both more of a controlled in fact. Yeah. So it really takes
Starting point is 00:08:14 skill focus. I would liken it to like a tennis match. So it's just you and no coaching allowed. And it's just a ball on a string and your opponent you're just trying to see who's going to Wind that rope around that pole faster So I would say those three red rover or square and tether ball needs to become Olympic sports by 2028 though. We just have this from the judges. You know, you got two of the three, right? Unfortunately, we can't tell you which one was wrong, but I do have to ask you this question, which I think you can get right. Who's the greatest Suns player ever?
Starting point is 00:08:50 And who's the most underrated Suns player of your fandom? I mean, I have to say Charles Barkley is my favorite Suns player ever. From what he meant to the city, what he did when he was part of the team to now you know actually claiming the valley and claiming this team underrated you know in light of his retirement Goran Dragic the dragon himself i will say he didn't get a lot of love but he was uh an instrumental figure figure and some fun teams to watch out here. So maybe that's recency bias, but just thinking about him hanging it up and then just remembering
Starting point is 00:09:33 his times here and bringing his twin brother along also for some of those rides, those will be my two. So you're gonna get the throwback? Do you have a driver's license? I have one, I have a Sean Marion throwback jersey. So that was pretty cool. Yeah, his number in jersey retired in the Ring of Honor. So yeah, I'm already Stoudemire's next. So you're in Phoenix. Come check it out. I will bring my goggles. Brian start the clock. Oh, wow. Is it Bill Marno?
Starting point is 00:10:06 My favorite show. Have you seen him? He has some of the funniest takes on just the stuff that I just keep. I keep saying to myself, can he say you guys got something? This guy's got something. Should you go first? Jack? Or should I go?
Starting point is 00:10:22 I would love to go first. Miles, thank you for asking. You are very welcome. Jasmine, you could have any player skill set for a day, but it has to be a non basketball skill. Who are you picking and what skill? Oh, like Rajon Rondo's like roller skating ability or something. Rajon Rondo's roller skating, Steph Curry's golf swing, one of the previous golf sling.
Starting point is 00:10:43 Wayman Tisdale's base playing. Yeah. Wayman Tisdale's base. Oh. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:10:51 I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:10:59 I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure say I want to say David Robinson. David Robinson. Somebody played saxophone for Maxie Johnson and I think it was like a David Robinson gateplate. Yeah. There we go. Wow. Wow. We got to go in the vault for that one. Hold on here it is.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Look at magic. He's got a tear in his eye. Like he just watched the Lakers play or something. Anyway, that's beautiful. That's a beautiful answer. Are you a musician though? No, but you yeah. Okay, that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:11:44 That makes sense. Okay, Jasmine We've got a time machine, but it's a Laker specific time machine and you can go back in time to see any of these moments I'm about to give you choose one Magix game winner baby skyhook and game four at the garden in 87 game seven 2010 you know what time it is. And also the Lakers title game, in the bubble versus the heat.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Those are your three options. Where are you taking the time machine? 2010. Yeah. Easy. Yep, yep, yep. It's still chasing that feeling, I gotta tell you. It's still chasing that feeling.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Still chasing that feeling. Okay, next. Over the Celtics. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. cuz I mean look they they they gave it to us and we said to say Okay, let me regroup real quick. I think we got something for you. We got something for you. We did Unfortunately, you do have kovat antibodies and you're able to spread kovat back in 2010 So time traveling there was the wrong answer. You've started the pandemic 10 years early. Messed up. Did you?
Starting point is 00:12:52 That's the thing about time travel. We should have mentioned these are trick questions. I know. Yeah. It's my own fault. All right. More likely to happen. And why Pacers Eastern Conference Final Run or Clippers Western Conference Finals run? Pacers. I think Halliburton. They got the Katelyn Clark magic around them. And I don't think the world is ready to see or we're not ready for Halliburton's outfits to leave us. So he can't
Starting point is 00:13:21 be out. We need a few more games. and I will never pick Clippers no matter what Right that makes that makes sense that makes sense. Wait would they who who are they playing second round? Are the Pacers playing the Celtic second round or are they playing the Knicks? Oh They are playing Knicks Knicks all right yeah, I can see that Assuming, you know the Sixers don't come back. Mm hmm. Right. Yeah. No, let's just I tried to be.
Starting point is 00:13:51 OK, did you see him? You're right. Crazy and assume that his eyes just went dead inside. It's fine. His eyes did the bone thugs thing again. Just just like one black. He didn't even bite. Where am I in In this version, his Uncle Charles was Barkley when he played on the Sixers. I miss my Uncle Charles, y'all. Jasmine, I wanna show you some fantastic 90s
Starting point is 00:14:17 throwback jerseys. Pick your top three from these coveted, coveted, iconic basketball jersey designs from the 90s Hornets Okay, Larry Johnson's Larry Johnson era pinstripes TL pinstripes great. Yeah, this is tough I'm a go magic. I'm trying not to be all pinstripey but... Wow, yeah, yeah, iconic. The pinstripe, yeah, yeah. Shack era, bright royal blue with pinstripes. I would say bulls, but I'm not gonna go three pinstripes. I'm gonna go Sixers, just because that was a golden
Starting point is 00:14:57 era of Sixers jerseys. That is a great Sixers jersey. Iverson era, basketball swooshing by. There's something going on with the eye. I forget what it's got a star on it. Got a star. That made me very sad cause I'm thinking about like Sixers now, no shade, like T Wolves now all the Jersey suck. Jersey's aren't, aren't the best. Not the best. Timberwolves from, from whatever they got on now. It's too clean. Like, right. Yeah. Right. That KG rugged now. It's too clean. Like, yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:15:25 That KG ruggedness. Yeah, exactly. Like I want to I want to picture Stefan in that thing. Like, yeah, it's it. Well, it's funny, too, because like the best jerseys like every year are when they're like, we're bringing that one back from the 90s. You're like, yeah. I mean, like I got like I got the Grizzly.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I got a Grizzlies jersey because they did the Vancouver one. Like, oh, oh, I had to because at the time I was also a big Sharif Abdelrahim fan, too, was kind of nostalgic for me. But anyway, look, see, Jasmine, we got to keep this going. Jack, do you have a question? Another question? Yeah. Our final question, what is the one moment or game from NBA history that you wish Twitter had been around for, obviously, pre 2000 and whatever year? Nine or six.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Yeah. Just for the discourse, I know it's an easy one, but I would go finals, jazz, bulls, Jordan push off Diddy Diddy. Oh, yeah. I would want to see everybody dissect that play. Jordan push off diddy-diddy Oh I Would want to see everybody dissect that play. Yeah into oblivion, right? We begin the flu game Conspiracy theories right away, you know, it was pizza. But yeah Yeah, you see it's it's so much drama around that. Oh, yeah Jordan's not the goat that would have also been the big around that. Oh yeah. Jordan's not the goat. That would have also been the big Jordan's goal. Yeah. Could you imagine some clowns just like saying that with
Starting point is 00:16:49 their whole chest? You're like yeah okay yeah well you know what I'm gonna save this tweet for 20 years. Exactly. It's Bob Cousy. It's Bob Coosie. Always was George Mike. I'll be close second. Bobby getting unfair shade. He was good. And I just feel like everybody on him because he is not as good as the generations coming after him, obviously. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Just like the footage of him dribbling around like it looks like he had just invented dribbling like 15 seconds before that clip. Look at what I can do with the ball. Yeah. Spin spinning around. That always shows you like why. Like when we started this show, it's always about like the game is always evolving forward and getting better and better and better.
Starting point is 00:17:37 And that's where we start and look at where we're at now with like the kind of stuff we see and do and everybody. Anyway, it's good times. It's good times for the neutral and I now declare myself a neutral. I can't wait to be a neutral in T minus an hour and a half. Just come to the light now. Come to the light now. What's going on everybody? This is Justin Penick from Jumbo Media, the host of the Football Today podcast alongside Bobby Skinner and Chris Rose. Can the Steelers keep up their momentum? We talk about everything, we break it down. Stats, analytics, and of course Chris Rose

We're also turning to fellow athletes and beyond to learn about their parenthood journeys and collect valuable advice,
Starting point is 00:19:22 like FIFA World Cup winner, Ashlyn Harris. I wish my village would have prepared me for how hard motherhood was going to be. And Peloton instructor and Ratchet Mom Club founder, Kirsten Ferguson. And I remember going in there a hot mess. So listen to Moms Who Puck, a production of iHeart Women's Sports
Starting point is 00:19:39 and Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Elf Beauty, founding partner the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Elf Beauty, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Starting point is 00:20:00 where I discuss entertainment, sports, politics, and anything and everything that catches my attention. I am here to call it as I discuss entertainment, sports, politics, and anything and everything that catches my attention. I am here to call it as I see it, and there's a whole lot of things catching my eyes these days. Here's a clip from one of my favorite episodes. You are not a real fighter. You will never be discussed anywhere in boxing history.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Ever. Fake Paul. The movie is The Apprentice, fighter you will never be discussed anywhere in boxing history ever fake Paul the movie is the apprentice and the movie is about young Donald Trump and his apprentice Roy Cohen real character obviously both real characters it kind of has a scarface vibe to it which I thought was very interesting. Listen to the I Am Rapaport stereo podcast on the iHeart radio app Apple podcast and wherever you get your podcast. Hi this is Alex Kansrowitz I'm the host of Big Technology podcast a longtime reporter and an on-air contributor to CNBC and if you're like me you're trying to figure out how artificial intelligence is changing the
Starting point is 00:21:02 business world and our lives. So each week on Big Technology, I bring on key actors from companies building AI tech and outsiders trying to influence it. Asking where this is all going, they come from places like Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon and plenty more. On Wednesdays, I feature interviews with top leaders like Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky. Well, I'm in the details. Let me just say this. I actually stay in the details of the product. And on Fridays, analyst Ron John Roy and I recap the week's news, looking at everything that's happened in the world of AI.
Starting point is 00:21:33 That is an emoji red flag for me. I'm putting it up. Three emoji red flags. They told me they're gonna fix Siri. I dreamed, I dreamed. So if you wanna be smart with your wallet, your career choices, in meetings with your colleagues, and career choices, in meetings with your
Starting point is 00:21:45 colleagues and at dinner parties, listen to Big Technology Podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. Warren Shaw. Well, well, well. I think you're maybe you're, you're, you're my favorite Celtics fan. I gotta say, you know, yeah, cuz cuz I'm not tough competition man Wasn't Donnie at the game wasn't Donnie at the game the other night? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Yeah. But anyway, it is time for the fourth quarter rapid fire round of questioning. This is the fastest question answer segment in all sports podcasting history. Warren, you've done this before. We're going to ask you a question. Just reply quickly. Give us a succinct answer. Don't nothing too long because we're trying to maintain our titles.
Starting point is 00:22:41 The fastest question answer segment in pop history. And if you take too long, we will be rude to you. And we will take our anger out as Sixers and Lakers fans on you in a way that is disproportionate and maybe inappropriate. But hey, you're a brave person. You're stand up man. So we expect nothing less from you. Are you ready? Let's get it popping. Right, start the clock! Don't do any easy ones, Jack.
Starting point is 00:23:08 We gotta make Warren look absolutely bullish. I'm crawling the easy ones out right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, these are good ones. Pull up his phone records. Pull up his phone records. Let's do that one. Yeah, the ones from June 2013. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Why would I like that? Settle down. Uh-oh, Warren. Uh-oh. You made a lot of calls to this number, okay, here we go First question. This is from the discord and shout out to everybody that goes on the discord What what what will the crowd reaction be like in Boston if it's Kyrie and the Mavs rolling into town? will the Turned up crowd get guys like Luca and Kyrie going will it be an atmosphere that will just be terrible for everyone What what are your what's your thoughts on the atmosphere when they come to town crash negative? Something that's no chill
Starting point is 00:23:53 It's gonna be awful and that's the one part I don't want any part of Kyrie is gonna rains of booze and I just yeah, they don't throw stuff at him That's all I can say just it's not a great fan base when it comes to Kyrie Sure, sure sure and like much the way that you're powered by the tears of Laker fans, Kyrie is powered by the boos of Boston fans. So yeah, that could, that could, yeah, that's a battery for him for sure. There's been a lot of talk about how the home court advantage has gone away. People aren't like doing that much better at home, if better at all at home. What do you think? What's your, what's your Chris Bounds, CEO of Homecourt Avenged
Starting point is 00:24:25 Funny, I was listening to a show talking about that earlier today and rest has a lot to do with it. I think so the visiting team can kind of come in and the travel is better, et cetera, et cetera. But I just think teams are better proportionately matched in general from what we've seen more recently in recent years. So I don't think Homecourt Avenged is what it once was. But, you know, I'd still rather have it than not. But it doesn't hold the same weight that I think it did 15, 10 years ago. Also, there's something we've talked about in the past about NBA players being sort of spite fueled and like feeling like everybody, it's them against the world. I wonder if like there's a part of it where like they react better
Starting point is 00:25:07 to people like hating on them like fabricate and hate. But yeah, yeah, right. Exactly. Like a lot of it is like, you know, just made up hate. But like, you know, you have to motivate yourself somehow. But like it when you're on the road, you actually get to like hear it and feel it. And it's like the type of person who becomes a great player these days has to do it in the face of just torrents of, you know, hate on social media.
Starting point is 00:25:35 I just wonder if like for a modern player, that is a more effective way to get going than like the adulation of the home crowd is like hearing boos and anger. That's my that's my loose, soft brain. I mean, I feel like, yeah. And then like people like MJ and then Kobe kind of really made it that thing where it's like, yeah, go ahead. I want to hear it. Oh, yeah. And then you stick that jaw out and you're like, you're in trouble. But that was a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Yeah. Well, I feel like trouble. But that was a long time ago. Yeah. I feel like the feeling of quieting a crowd, something that I have a lot of experience with in our live shows, control your farting. I feel like that's got to be one of the more powerful feelings that you can get. I can give you a terrible example. I played basketball intramural. Yeah. Hey, a mural basketball.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Don't knock it. Me too. When I did and we played against those frats and they, you know, they brought their sorority girls out and they're all and my little pickup team, you beat them. I felt some type of way. Yeah, that's true. Motivation. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:38 And that is the translates all levels. That is the experience of playing against the Boston Celtics, by the way, is playing against a fraternity with a bunch of, uh, Oh, we play in SIG app. Say less baby. Mine was Pike. So, Oh, okay. Yeah. Oh, and gamma five beta coming. Don't worry. Don't worry. I will.
Starting point is 00:27:00 I'll probably hit an air ball or two in that game. Um, all right. Was that a question or are you sure? Let's go. Let's say that was a question. Okay, that was a question All right, Warren, you can go back in time to personally witness any finals matchup from history However, many games a series when you get courtside tickets to each game What series are you sitting court with for heat series? Are you choosing God? I'd go back into I can't remember what year I'm going to get it wrong, but obviously one of the ones, Bird, beat Magic Cat. So you know, I don't know if that's E4?
Starting point is 00:27:35 Five? One of those, one of those years. So I was, you know, a fledgling individual at that time of my life and wasn't really following basketball in that. Um, but I think just understanding what that rivalry was, like not the first, but the most, I only say, I want to say this right. One of the more iconic rivalries in NBA history, you know, bird versus magic. And I, yeah, for sure. Something that I can definitely relate to.
Starting point is 00:27:59 It's the year of my birth, 1984. Sweet. Remember the amount of second hand smoke you're going to have to deal with back there though, man. Oh, yeah Oh, yeah, yeah and red and cigars. Yeah, I'm good. Yeah, I already saying 87 better Maybe Well, we know why Okay Paces of the NBA for the next five years
Starting point is 00:28:20 Shay and so when be shame when be okay, who's aunt when be Aunt wimpy is it not luca because of how bad his forearm tattoo is like this That's one of the worst Professional athlete tattoos, right? Like I say sometimes i'm like, what did he smear on there? What is going on with like, there's like a, you know what I mean? It's like kind of what he's, what's he smearing on? It's like smeared a little bit. It's, uh, it's hard to know. Isn't it like a I like an all seeing I kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:29:03 And I think like a hawk flying into the moon. Hey, I can't hate. All right. I can't hate. You've seen the little sunrise I have at the base of my back. So, yeah, exactly. I can't, I can't complain. You got to stand on. I'm gonna get on. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:14 He does front and back. So Warren, we've seen teams like around my belly, but yeah, Rodman style. You got the, you know, was it Reggie? Yeah. Who is it? So we got teams like the Grizzlies, Dunno my belly button. Yeah, a little Rodman style. Was it Reggie? Yeah, who is it? So we got teams like the Grizzlies, Thunder, Magic, taking steps to the next level over the last few years.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Can you give us two teams you think we can also expect something similar from that are going to be in the conversation that previously wasn't? Because we're seeing a lot of- That is not those teams you just mentioned. Yes the ones that Fully encapsulate what I've just said but go outside the bounds and give us a prediction why so listen I think Houston's closer than people want to admit Yeah, coaching is a real situation there and I love Shen Goon and I think Jill and green is is gonna be a dude So I'd pick Houston there, you know, try and think from an Eastern
Starting point is 00:30:07 conference standpoint. There's not a lot that I like right now. Wow. You have mentioned right. So yeah, you know, I would hope Detroit gets their act together, but they're nowhere near where they need to be. So I guess I'll go with the safe pick here and then in your conference finals and I guess the Pacers, I guess we'll see them again. They should
Starting point is 00:30:30 be still good. So I mean man like Nemhardt, he's a blueprint. You talked about like you thought he'd be the last time. Me too, you know. He's not particularly quick but he's crafty and you know little half turns doing the smitty and, you know, lean ins and decent shot, you know, the little Gooseneck on his threes. Hey, I can rock with that. I can rock. Yeah, I think your super producer saying the Spurs, but until they can get some help, someone will be right. Yeah. Yeah. It's basically us three running around, weather them right now.
Starting point is 00:31:01 And that's that's not going to cut it. Right. Over under a number of seasons until Wemby is top three mvp voting uh so over under uh i'm gonna say over one but i'd say literally in year three so wow that's crazy okay yeah i mean and i mean that's that's contradicting what i just said though in terms of spurs won't be a basketball team, you know, record wise, but I don't know that we'll be able to deny his, his statistical impact. And if you know, people do say, you know what, I want to go play with that guy, you know, the alien or whatever his logo is.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Yeah. You know, maybe they will be able to rebuild a lot faster, but he's ridiculous. Yeah. Yeah. It's hard to, for somebody to live up to the expectations in that first year that was put on him, too. And I know you guys ride at Summer League and I don't know if you remember the spectacle that it was, you know,
Starting point is 00:31:55 oh, yeah, trying to watch him out there. It was I actually was a lot of them. Was he there? When I didn't. Do you remember the how quiet it got in Thomas Maxx Center? The second he walked in ball even? Watch yeah, and they're like, oh my god, he missed that dunk and I was like this guy is a wastrel He's calling it out on this wemby guy and then he almost hit his head on the rim just like walking by
Starting point is 00:32:21 Is gonna be weird you need spatial awareness. Warren, finally, this summer, we're planning on doing a dive into some 90s players, some of our favorites of the era during the offseason. We're going to highlight different players. Give us a few recommendations of people that you think, especially for newer fans, 90s era players that we absolutely, they need to be familiar with. Well, I think I spoke about this maybe the last time I was on, but I'm definitely, it's been a little bit of a goodie for me. The draws in Petrovic's nets. So with Derek Coleman as well too, DC was a problem.
Starting point is 00:32:53 He wasn't always motivated, but he was a problem back in the nineties. And then to keep it Boston centric, Reggie Lewis, you know, and not to be morbid about it in any capacity. Obviously he passed on, but he was a bucket, you know, he could really hoop. So those are guys I think, you know, people would love and should want to learn more about, you know, those three guys, if you will. Yeah, man, he kept that 4-4 on him.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Well, Warren Shaw, it has been a pleasure and an honor having you on Miles and Jack on Mad Boosties so you could sip on our loser tears this episode. Yeah. We'd love to have you back on if the Celtics don't win the title. We'd love to. We'd love to have you back on. If they win, it's been nice meeting you. Good luck. Yeah. Good luck in your future endeavors,
Starting point is 00:33:41 but we will not be able to look you in the eye if you think 18 up. Just, that's just the rules. And Dan, so this is the fastest segment in not just basketball podcasting, podcasting in general. We can ask you questions. You're coming back with just the first answers that come out of your brain, just sounds, whatever.
Starting point is 00:33:59 It can be pre-lingual. We just want, we want it fast, okay? And if you slow it down at all, uh, we will blame you and hold, hold it against you. Does that sound good? Sounds harrowing. Let's do it. Yeah. Uh, all right. Uh, Brian, start the clock. Oh, I don't like that. I don't, I don't feel good. It does. It's not becoming Brian. It's okay if you don't, you know, do whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:34:24 No, I'm't feel good. It does. It's not become Brian. It's OK if you don't, you know, do whatever you want. Not to say, Brian. All right. We've been asking our guests, what is the official state bird of your state? In this case, New York at the Blue Jay, I have no idea. He got we don't know. We don't care about that. What is the unofficial state bird of New York? Like a
Starting point is 00:34:48 Crow black crow. Yeah, okay. Yeah. Yeah, that is incorrect. We would accept trash pigeon big bird, but the suit smells like urine or Just straight up a rat any of those would have been okay. Yeah All right Jabari on to you. What is your favorite all time throwback shoe and jersey? And I noticed you got a TMAC jersey back there, but would that be in there? No, my favorite throwback jersey would be those Vancouver Grizzlies
Starting point is 00:35:21 like teal jerseys are just spectacular. Yeah, with the bear. Oh, yeah. They got the bear on there. My favorite throwback shoe, I would be a T-Mac shoe if you guys, I don't remember the actual edition of it, but it was from Adidas. It had like the spider web with the blue, like it was white and it had like the blue lines that looked like spider webs. It was in all those got milk magazine ads. When I finally topped the pair of those and I was playing youth basketball, I thought I was so freaking cool. Um, those, those were awesome. Man, I just Googled T back throwback spiderweb and, uh,
Starting point is 00:35:52 Google does not know what to do with that. Uh, so, uh, all right. What's the best slice for your money and all in New York? Ooh, uh, pizza. Oh, not cheesecake. My name about that then. Two brothers or two boots. There's like a place in Rockefeller Center or something. That's the best pizza I ever had. It's like some hole in the wall place.
Starting point is 00:36:15 I think it might be called like two boots, pizza or something. Really? Rockefeller Center. Hot damn. The Rockefeller still doing it after all these years. All right. That is also incorrect, but I won't get into it. I'm a fan of John's or Bleecker Street Pizza, but those are both happened to be around where I lived when I was in New York, so probably biased. Jabari, what you got?
Starting point is 00:36:42 Right. We're heading into the year. We're doing all these fantastic breakdowns. Southeast Division, of course. What is your biggest sleeper team or sleep? What are your sleeper teams heading into the season? I just want to pick the pelicans so you guys can yell at me again. Like you have the pass. I don't know. I kind of like it.
Starting point is 00:36:59 I feel like people forgot that Dejante is on the pelicans now. I don't have any centers, so it's like easy to forget them. I guess I center there. I think for the sake of variety, the Houston Rockets have like 25 guys that belong in an NBA rotation. And I actually think that we're going to look back on this draft and wonder why Reed Shepard wasn't taken. Number one, that guy gives off like Steph Curry vibes and just the way he gets to his mid-range,
Starting point is 00:37:27 the shooting in general, I think he'll end up being a really good passer. I don't know how much they're going to play him because they have so many dudes, but like Jabari Smith, really good. I'm in Thompson. Really good. They have Shane Goon. Dylan Brooks is a psycho. Tari is in his defensive chaos creator. I don't know if they're interested in winning, but they won more.
Starting point is 00:37:44 They 41 and 41 or 40 and 42 last year, like right around that's a team that people don't have penciled into kind of the playing territory or even the top six running. It would not shock me if their offense gets a little bit better. The defense is still elite. And this is a team that we're talking about like late in the year as a, as a dark horse. Well, he did it. Jabari. I know you said no chance. He makes it through another rapid fire round of questioning,
Starting point is 00:38:07 but Danny Beans, Dan Favali, you have done it. You have made it. What's going on everybody? It kind of has a Scarface vibe to it which I thought was very interesting. Listen to the I Am Rapaport stereo podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast and wherever you get your podcast. Starting point is 00:41:25 and outsiders trying to influence it. Asking where this is all going. They come from places like Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, and plenty more. On Wednesdays, I feature interviews with top leaders like Airbnb CEO, Brian Chesky. Well, I'm in the details. Let me just say this.
Starting point is 00:41:39 I actually stay in the details of the product. And on Fridays, analyst Ron John Roy and I recap the week's news, looking at everything that's happened in the world of AI. That is an emoji red flag for me. I'm putting it up. Three emoji red flags. They told me they're going to fix Siri.

Starting point is 00:42:16 Oh, Jason, it's been a really fun conversation up until this point because you are now in the hot seat. This is the rapid fire round of busting. These are the fastest question and answer segments that we have ever done in the history of podcasting ever. Okay, we're gonna ask a question. You just answer it quick. Don't think too hard. Just give us the instant reaction.
Starting point is 00:42:36 And if you take too long and threaten our title as fastest question and answer segment in podcasting history, we will be very rude. Okay? Just how it is. Don't make me look like a fool in front of the NBA, Jason. We promised them. We said the show is going to be mediocre, but the fastest, say the rapid fire segment is going to be so fast, as you've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:42:57 And trust me, we will be able to dunk on everybody we have on the show. Just so you know, and your threat, it's a big, you're, you're making us from a lot of different angles. Yeah. We don't like it. We don't like it, but it's back. Get the confidence back. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Jason, are you ready? Yes, sir. Let's do it. All right. Then here we go. Brian start the clock. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Yeah. I'm just nervous, man. I was just, I was just rewatching the video on Jason's Twitter profile. I was like, you caught that real clean leg off to the highlight reel and the footnote the show. Wow. Wow. Wow. Here, here, here we go. You should we do it? Should we do one? I mean, sorry, I'm nervous again. I just, I was looking at another replay. Am I?
Starting point is 00:43:46 Why don't we kick it off here? You want to go? Yeah, I'll go. Okay. This is the fastest question and answer segment. Just so you know, Jason, this isn't us being rusty. This is a little bit of, this is how we fake them out. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:43:58 A little bit of a, and fake. It's called a Hesy. Is this like when you're on the polygraph where they ask you all the boring questions first? Exactly. You two relax, right? And just like a polygraph where they ask you all the boring questions first And just like a polygraph this is also pseudoscientific Here's the first question Jason. This is from our discord. Is there a current comp for pre-injury Grant Hill?
Starting point is 00:44:20 Um, I Don't think so that that like super springy to guard pull-up shooter It hadn't really been I mean aunt is the closest thing we've had to but most of the two guards We've had are like the Booker and Hardin types which are a little bit less athletic a little more skill-based. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm Okay, okay, that's correct That is correct. I got that one. I know you said no way he gets this one. Yeah, he got it. He nailed it I'm yeah, I'm nervous now. It is currently NBA dunk week He got it. He nailed it. I'm nervous now. It is currently NBA Dunk Week. So what's your all-time favorite in-game dunk and your four dunkers in your all-time fantasy dunk contests? Dunk. I'm going to say dunk again.
Starting point is 00:44:53 There you go. And dunk. Admittedly biased, but the LeBron dunk over Yusuf Nurkic, every time I see the highlight, I still don't know how he did it. His body was moving kind of like away from the rim and he took off from like the third hash outside the block and was like this and just that was absurd Vince Carter is always number one for me all time That's true miles swift video every single time it comes around. I just have to watch it That's like one of my rules. I have the handful of rules as a human You always watch the strong miles swift video when it comes around
Starting point is 00:45:22 I'll go with let's see so Carter LeBron Strow Mile If I have to give you a fourth, I'll go with I'll go with TMAC. Yeah. Yeah TMACS a good answer You got to you got to Now I guess this is something since we've been talking about in the 90s and how younger fans kind of put or just people who? Maybe not were as not engaged with basketball back then, have some misconceptions about the game. What is one of the biggest misconceptions that people have about the way the game was played
Starting point is 00:45:55 in the eighties or nineties and the impact that it's had today? I think that the idea that, that defenses are getting worse is a major misconception. I think like people forget that the offense is always improving as we get better at schemes and understanding how to generate better shots for people, but also just the skill level of players is increasing. But at the same time, it's not like the league isn't also trying to solve that on the defensive end. It's like we're
Starting point is 00:46:21 seeing it now with teams trying to take away the three in the rim and in different pick and roll coverages that are designed to get the ball out of the primary ball handler's hands. Defense is actually better than it's ever been. It's just the offense is growing at a faster rate. And I think that a lot of times there's just a misconception about defense was better in the nineties. It wasn't, it was really good still.
Starting point is 00:46:40 It just, it's just as a league, the offense is outpacing it right now. Yeah. Okay. And that was the right answer. Beat you right now. Yeah. Okay. That was the right answer. And they were allowed to beat you up a little bit. Yeah, that was the right answer, Jason, but it took way too long for you to say that. So I don't know if we can count that one, just so you know, but that was the right answer. That was the right answer. All right. Give us a Dark Horse team for this next year and also a Dark Horse player who you want to see on the 2028 Olympic team. A Dark Horse team, I think a lot of people forget how good Memphis was.
Starting point is 00:47:07 I think they're going to be top four seed right away. I think they kind of found a couple forwards in their system between guys like Vince Williams and Gigi Jackson and John Morant. I threw out this stat the other day. He just immediately came in and was awesome and helped them win a lot of games before he got hurt. What was the second part of the question? All right, give me a Dark Horse player that you want to see on the 2028 Olympic team. On the 2028 Olympic team?
Starting point is 00:47:29 Ah, um, I'll go with... How about Kevin Durant? Whoa. LeBron's a given. Let's get Kevin Durant back up there. No, but if there was an old guy who would come back, it'd be him, right? Because he's such a root head, right? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:44 Like what if like 40-O Katie taking spot-up jump shots? Yeah, he's just like he's he's he's just stuck there in the corner Man, just find him. He's gonna throw it up love to hoop Alright, and I gotta say we have seen your mixtape on the Twitter bio But what is your personal highlight for you as a basketball player? What's the nastiest in-game moment for you that you still think about when you put yourself to bed at night? That's a good question. I would say, if I had to off the top of my head, I would say when I was at, when I was in Juco,
Starting point is 00:48:20 I had a tip dunk once that I surprised myself with, where I was coming down the lane and I was actually just going to grab the offensive rebound and when I went up and got it I remember vividly my head like looking over and seeing the rim like right here and I was like, oh But we've had that happen to us too Jack and I a lot Yeah, too off but it happens too often where I'm not prepared for how high I jumped I could get it through my thick head you have incredible springs down there, but he got bunnies What we say? I think I think that's probably it like I just like everybody else
Starting point is 00:49:02 There's a there's it's it basketball for me and I'm sure it is for you guys too. Like it's it's a thing that's lasted for decades for me So I just have you know A lot of memory like you know what I've had a lot of fun with is just like as an old guy playing in like money tournaments There's cash on the line. Yeah I just had I just had one a few weeks ago where I put in 300 bucks as an entry fee me and a buddy of Mine split the entry fee and we brought a team in and like it was double elimination and we lost in the first championship game. We had to like come back and win two in a row and like the AC was broken in the gym.
Starting point is 00:49:31 It was like 85 degrees and like those moments when you like win the cash and like and you're with a bunch of dudes who used to play in college. Like I've actually had a lot of enjoyment in the game post college, which is something that I didn't expect. But a big part of that is I'm just a lot better now than I used to be when I was in college. Well, this is true. Some white men can jump, it turns out. And I find it troubling, personally.
Starting point is 00:49:53 All right. Every time you get up there, huh, Jack? You're like, why am I going so high? I'm too high. This is scary. My ankles can't handle the landing. Yeah. Oh, miles.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Oh, miles. Oh, Miles. Oh, Miles. Oh dear. Yes. It is the fourth quarter. It is time for the rapid fire round of questioning. Dragonfly Jones. You are one of our favorite guests, one of our favorite people to talk to.
Starting point is 00:50:16 Also a fantastic follow on Twitter. If you, if you don't know, you should learn yourself, but I'm sorry to do this to you, you are now in the hot seat. You know how this goes. We ask the questions. You don't think about it. You just give us your first instinct. Just react.
Starting point is 00:50:32 OK, don't give us long winded answers because we'd like to keep the temple up like this. Everybody knows how good this segment goes. Exactly. And I will not slow down my way of speaking. And we will be rude to you if you slow down the segment. With all that said, do you consent to being part of this rapid fire round of questioning? And we have been told by legal that we do need to get your consent.
Starting point is 00:50:50 Like swear out of violence. Yes. OK, thank you. Yes, legal and then state farm insurance. We need to get your consent. OK, well, you said you're ready and so are we. So Brian, start the clock so me
Starting point is 00:51:11 Drac Dracula, yeah Dracula you want to go? No, I guess we yeah Why don't you kick us off? Oh me? Yeah you here we go Dragonfly Jones, what is your all all time favorite throwback shoe and jersey? They don't necessarily have to go together, but please call out the most powerful basketball garments in the universe. This this might be a sleeper pick.
Starting point is 00:51:34 It is the 95 Jason kids. If you remember those lights. Yeah, yeah. Those they came out in black and white and blue and white and the black and white ones. Like, I got a pair of those as we speak. So those little bubble on the side. Yep. Yep. Yeah couple of things Oh, yeah, I think very few guys I would just like to remind you on the cover art for this very podcast miles And Jack got mad boosties my caricature is rocking those exact sneakers because that is my favorite basketball What time we just have best friends. Oh, my God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Yeah. And you know, it's funny, every time they every time Nike releases them, they're like sitting and I'm always like, what is wrong with these kids? This is iconic. It's not appreciate history, man. That's all that. Yeah. Yep. And they're like, whoa, look at those washed sneakers. They always say I have washed sneakers. But I'm like, yeah, they are clean. Thanks.
Starting point is 00:52:22 Good. Just washed them yesterday. Oh, OK. And like, yeah, they are clean. Thanks, kids. Just watched them yesterday. OK, and Jersey, Jersey, Jersey, you know, it is, you know, keeping with the Jerry West theme, it is the the icy blue. Yeah. Lakers, you know, wow. The Jerry West era. I had the icy blue Kobe eight back in like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So then that was my favorite throwback from. Yeah, it's a beautiful journey.
Starting point is 00:52:46 I love blue and obviously the Lakers wear purple and gold. So whenever I had a chance to rock that, I will. And Dragonfly Jones, that was a fantastic answer, but that took entirely too long. We're gonna have to move on to the next question. I'm sitting over here checking my non-existent watch. Well, look at Jack's beard that grew. It looks like Methuselah. Hello?
Starting point is 00:53:04 Who's there? Dragonfly Jones, we are playing pickup with presidents of these United States. I actually just took the first pick and I took Obama. All presidents are in their peak physical condition. Who are you taking next? Gerald Ford. your peak physical condition. Who are you taking next? Gerald Ford. Gerald Ford. Gerald Ford. He is perhaps the most accomplished athlete to ever serve as president.
Starting point is 00:53:32 He was an offensive lineman at Michigan. Yeah. Center. I know we're talking basketball, but there's a certain brand of basketball that football players play where they do all the dirty work. They set screens, they rebound, they get put backs. You know, that's the type of guy that you want to hear things. I'll probably go Gerald Ford of Obama's off the board.
Starting point is 00:53:47 God should have taken Gerald Ford. You got to like Obama, man. You got to get out of Obama's way. I know Ford's going to be the guy sending screens for you. I am a dirty work kind of player and I need somebody who's got a sweet jumper. And that's what I'm that's why I took Obama first. And I'm going to get in the middle and tussle with Ford.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Oh, you think Ford's going to, bro, he's in a, he going jam on you all day. You're gonna be right back to me. Like dad Zurich and you're like, thank you, Mr. President. Thank you, sir. Also I feel like I'd be interested to see what Lincoln could do, even though he was president before basketball was invented. Height and also like he was famous when he was a young person for being one of the best wrestlers at that time. Like wrestling was just two people enter a ring and whoever could knock the other person
Starting point is 00:54:41 off their feet would win. So I just like, he just had natural. He naturally had that dog in him. So I think it would have been interesting. Lincoln did, in fact, have that dog in him. Yeah. OK, next question, Dragonfly. One of these got to go.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Little Penny, Grandma Ma or Mars Blackmon? Grandma Ma. And the only reason that Grand Ma Ma has to go is because I gotta say that the Larry Johnson conferences are the weakest out of that bunch. And I thought it was a great gimmick. I thought Grand Ma Ma was a great gimmick. I remember when, you know, he even had the special appearance on Family Matters when he was with Earth, right?
Starting point is 00:55:22 Yeah. Yeah, great gimmick. But Little Penny was hilarious. I love those commercials. That's Tyra Banks fool. Like I see that all the time. I'm going to be talking about this day. Mars Blackman with I mean, it's just so wild to look back and realize
Starting point is 00:55:39 there was an ad campaign with Michael Jordan and Spike Lee at a point in time. Right. Like that's just his short. Unbelievable. Yeah. So yeah, I mean, LJ gets the cut here, unfortunately. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:51 I actually just figured out that that is Larry Johnson when you just said that. I was like, why is this elderly woman advertising LJ's shoes? You're like, Grandma Ma, who is selling cons with the react juice. That was Larry Johnson No, and the Larry Johnson Converse reacts were a blatant ripoff of the aqua eights of you really really? Yeah Yeah, yeah, sure, but you don't want to start that conversation. Do you the NBA? Always avoiding the hot topics. That's right. Yeah Um, always avoiding the hot topics. That's right. Yeah. All right. Give us a biggest sleeper team heading into the season.
Starting point is 00:56:31 Biggest sleeper team heading into the season. Hmm. Hmm. Did you explain that it's a fast? Yeah, I know. It's that's OK. You did right. He might be going through something. I didn't want to. All right. No, I just want to make sure that we covered off on everything. No, we did. No, we did
Starting point is 00:56:47 We did and I'm being very rude to him on text. So the listeners don't have to be subjected I'm gonna go I'm gonna go with the Hornets Wow, okay. Yo Did say very few answers you could have given that would have say rendered me speechless But that so that is one where Vegas is up on them. They think they're going to get more wins. And I was trying to figure it out. So now you can explain it to me.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Why are we up on the hornets? I think their coach is going to turn things around. There, Charles Lee, a guy who who was on the he was assistant on the on the Bucks championship squad. He was an assistant on the Bucks championship squad. He was an assistant on the Celtics championship squad. I think he's got that pedigree there where he's going to turn things around because I think they've got the town. I think Lamello is incredible.
Starting point is 00:57:34 But I just I feel like Lamello suffering from that whole, you know, empty stats, you know, label.
