Did you know this is the penultimate episode of Miles and Jack on my Booskies?
I didn't know.
I thought when Jabari said that to me that he was talking about like last of the season
or something.
No, no.
Last ever?
Yeah, we're breaking on it.
Too hot for TV.
Yeah.
Well, I've always said that.
People are saying it.
Yeah, people are saying it.
People are saying it.
Many are saying it's too hot for TV. I said that. People are saying. Yeah, people are saying it.
People are saying it.
Many are saying it's too hot for TV.
I'd like to shout out my mother for saying that.
Um, what are you even talking about?
Uh, MBA.
This is the MBA one.
Guys, I'm going to need to just see one set of footprints in the
sand when I look back.
Miles is very slick.
I need a job. I look back. Yeah, Miles is very slick. I need you to carry me.
Carry me, Jesus.
Can we include that?
We can do it like, you guys will all sit
on each other's shoulders and you can just be at the top.
So then we can put a trench coat.
And so it's just one person.
Wemba Yama sized one, three person stack.
And I got a bald head like Wemby, Monk Wemby. I can be Monk Wemby's head. You like Monk Wemba Yama sized one three person stack. And I got a bald head like Wemby, Monk Wemby.
I can be Monk Wemby's head.
You like Monk Wemby?
You like Monk Wemby?
I like Monk Wemby look.
Yeah, I like Monk Wemby.
Can that just be a segment?
Can this be the show right now?
We're just doing it?
Yeah.
Monk Wemby.
Sarah, it's been great having you on this show.
Miles, this is just starting.
It's just starting.
100th episode. It's just starting. This is the end. Hundreds of episodes.
It's been a real ride.
I remember when you were but a...
Here we go.
Oh, Jesus.
All right.
Just like great shoes, great books take you places.
Through unforgettable love stories
and into conversations with characters you'll never forget.
I think any good romance, it gives me this feeling of like butterflies.

I know a lot of cops and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your

Sometimes the answer is yes.
But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Across the country, cops call this Taser the revolution.
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.
From Lava for Good and the team that brought you Bone Valley comes a story about what happened when a multi-billion dollar company

Okay, see has finally swung back after going down to one and now leads this
final series three games to two with teams heading back to Indiana for game
six.
We'll discuss that.
Uh, and just what has been honestly a great final series.
I gotta say for me having absolutely no interest
with either team prior to this postseason,
I'm fully bought in.
Heading into the postseason, heading into these finals,
you had your solitaire ready.
Oh yeah.
You're ready to play solitaire.
I was.
Jack, I'm multitasking, okay baby? The basketball was so good. You were you had your solitaire ready. Oh, yeah ready to play solid there's
then That's so good
Basketball was so good that you you didn't even you looked up from your solitaire and didn't even look back down like Jack
It was so good. I decided to just single task. Okay. I'm not even
Decided to just single task
Anyway, we're gonna discuss that and many other huge stories. I mean there's actually some stuff also going on around the league right now
monumental things happening with honestly one of our favorite guests.
Monumental? Monumental episode for one of our favorite monumental guests.
Sorry, I'm sleep deprived. We're here with the ABB writer. Miles is drunk on sleep deprivation.
Yeah, you know that's what they say. Jack, you taught me that. We're here with NBA B-Rider. Miles is drunk on sleep deprivation. Yeah. You know, that's what they say.
Jack, you taught me that.
I do say that.
We're here with Sarah Todd on today's episode.
I'm pretty sure I'm Miles Gray.
And I'm Jack O'Brien.
Definitely.
And this is Miles and Jack got mad.
Boospeed.
Boospeed.
Boospeed.
Boospeed.
Yuck. Yes! Oh! Night, night! Leonis with the take. Oh, look out. No show time.
What you got, Leonis?
NBA writer, a Utah jazz beat writer for Deseret News, two-time Utah Sportswriter of the Year.
One of the OGs of Miles and Jack, on this penultimate episode.
Sarah Todd, thank you for returning once more to crisis with your wonderful presence.
One of our favorite guests of all time.
And we're.
Stop.
True.
No, but I actually go ahead.
Keep going.
No, it's you.
Sarah, it's you.
It's you.
I remember the first time we recorded.
I was like, oh, Sarah's dope.
I remember the first time we recorded too, because I was I was staying at a friend's house, I think,
I mean it was the Jazz Off Season, so probably the rest of the NBA was playing, but, and
I had gotten out of the pool to come record.
That's right.
I was so afraid that you guys were going to use the video of like my sunburned face and
my wet hair, and I just I just didn't know you guys
Very serious just got out of the pool to record energy to yeah, which is what made us love you
You were just like yeah, what's this now? Oh, it's a alley energy. Yeah, what are you talking about? Oh, yeah? Yeah? I got this, okay
Yeah, yeah, but more coherent yes. More intentionally drunk and less drunk on sleep deprivation.
Sleep deprivation, for sure.
Well, we're thrilled to have you back here as the show is winding down to talk about
the finals, to talk about what we can expect coming up with the draft, with the off-season
acquisition of Desmond Bain by the Orlando Magic.
But let's talk about the finals.
Everybody's enjoying it enough to actually watch.
Yeah, I have no dog in this fight and all of a sudden I'm a lifelong Pacers fan out
of nowhere.
Same.
Yeah.
They're so, yeah, I just, I really enjoy them.
I really enjoyed watching their run through the Eastern Conference.
It's just been, they've been a super fun team,
like one of the most fun offensive teams.
And so it has been a little bit like just watching them
get run down slash walked down by OKC
and just watching the, you know, I believe I can,
I think I can, I think I can like flying,
like just watching that magic wear off as they run into this wood chipper.
Well, like the cliche, cliche or just the known phrase, whatever you want to call it,
is that like only one team gets to win the championship every year, right?
And it's like, that's the obvious thing.
Let me just make sure that's true.
No, yeah, think about it for a second.
We're actually, let me go back through here real...
Nope.
No, yeah.
No, you're onto something.
Okay, she's right.
I might be true.
Yeah, yeah.
But like, for so many teams in the NBA, like getting to the finals is such an accomplishment, right?
And I love that this Indiana Pacers team has kind of shown the rest of the league,
like you
don't need a number one guy nobody before today these finals this season
would have ever been like oh the Indian Pacers all they need is like a couple of
number two or three option guys yeah and Andrew Nemhardt right like the guys that
everybody thinks you're gonna build a team to go to the finals. But like, yes, you can.
If you just fill out your roster with a bunch of dogs who are going to run constantly, like,
you can get there.
Whether or not they can win is a different question.
But like, I love this story for the rest of the league.
Yeah, exactly.
Do we think something has changed?
Or is this just like a special team at a special moment?
Do we think that there's something about just like how dynamic the offense is and how much
talent there is across the league that means that this is the future, that it's not about
compiling the three stars, it's about just having the best bench, the most scoring.
Do you think that this is the new direction of the league
or is this just a very special team?
I mean, frankly, I think that the Desmond Bain trade
shows that maybe there is a shift, right?
Because if you're a team like the Magic
and you're in kind of the playoff field
but you're not quite there yet.
Like that is a team that I think in years past.
Ownership for an office would have been
like, oh, we need to go get like the guy now.
Right. Right.
Desmond Baines, not that guy, but he's a guy.
And so if you're willing to give up like
for first and you believe in that trade so much that those are the assets you're willing to give up then I Think that that's evidence that like no we just want to fill out the roster with the right guys, right?
Yeah, I have a total bias against Desmond Bane just based on he has too much muscles
I'm like that's not that's not what NBA player look like yeah, he has too much muscles
He can't be that good his bicepsiceps are so thick, it makes his arms look small.
That's right.
It makes him look like the weird thing.
There's like a visual mystery going on.
Can't shoot a basketball with arms like that.
Yeah. I'm a firm believer that like
people aren't allowed to have more than one thing.
Like, you know, like the Ryan Goslings of the world, that's not fair and you don't deserve anything because you can't be like a good singer, a good actor,
a good athlete, and good looking.
No, you get to have one thing.
So like, no, you can't be Desmond Vane
and be like an incredible shooter,
but also have like the biggest muscles in the world.
Nope, you just get one.
You know what's really annoying to me?
I was talking to somebody who runs a,
like a couple of basketball games around LA
and like has hooped with a bunch of celebrities.
And I was like, who's the best?
He's played with Sandler and all those people.
And he was like, you're not going to like this answer, but he's really, he's taller
than you think, really quick.
If you say Ryan Gosling.
Timothy Shaller. I was like what?
He's like he's really quick man. He's like hard to stay in front of what he's like he can like put it in
I was like, are you sure it was the Timothy Shalomeh? Like what are we?
Sorry, Timoth Tim Hardaway
Jordan and
Timothy Shalomeh, I was like well Michael B. Jordan and Timothee Chalamet.
I was like, well, Michael B. Jordan is like,
he's got the name, he seems very athletic in the movies.
But yeah, Timothee Chalamet did not see that one coming.
Like again, that's not fair.
When you hear someone is taller than you think,
what does that mean?
For an actor, that means they're 510
Yeah, exactly. I'm like looking at my he's 510
I'm like that's service 100% if an actor if someone says it's taller than you think it's anything over 5'8. Yeah, exactly
Right Tom Cruise showed it. What is Chalamet listed as 510? Is he really? Yeah. Wow
The person I was talking to not not a super tall individual. So it could just be one of the- Tall to you.
Yeah.
Tall to you, friend.
I would have gobbled.
I would have been gobbling them shots up.
Oh yeah.
Try and bring that nonsense in the paint, Timmy.
See what you got.
Cause I know that frame can't handle this.
Just dunking on me.
I know.
It's on your headpiece.
Brian Gosling is at the point where like,
if he could dunk, he would just have to hide it
because otherwise it would like,
just be an outrage.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Exactly.
Your smoke is too tough in fact.
Yeah.
The CIA has run the tests and the smoke is too tough.
They will actually kill you.
They take you out.
Yeah.
It's too much.
He has too many skills.
All right.
Oh man.
We've covered the finals.
Yeah.
I mean, Sarah, what are you feeling now that it's, you know, the Thunder are the game away?
You've...
I, long ago, before it all started, said that it was going to be Pacers and Seven.
Wow!
And you stand by it.
I absolutely stand by it.
Hell yeah.
I make all of my NBA predictions not with any
Institutional knowledge that I have sure but with the outcome that I hope happens because it would make me
It'd be so fun. I'm talking about and so love again seven. Just give me a game seven, please. Yeah. Yeah
Let's go. Yes. We deserve we need something nice
Yeah, and what's the status of Tyrese Halliburton?
Cuz like I said, I'm sleep-deprived and then I was like, oh is he is he going to be out?
He's not gonna get a castrain. He's gonna go but I mean
I'm if I'm Halliburton himself his trainer Rick Carlisle. We're not talking about like this is the second round
We don't want you to hurt yourself. No
Yeah, I want to see thing there. I want to see thing off.
I want to see me.
I hope that's what his train.
He's like, we want that thing.
Spoon tender off the bone.
If we're talking game two of the second round,
I don't want him to strain the calf any more than he needs to.
No, we have to run him out there and see what he has. Do it.
Yeah, I feel like, you know, he's got, I, and I, I believe in him to really bring it
together because, you know, he was, he was caught lacking the last game.
And I was like, this is what, this is when it, this is what we don't need as
somebody who became a bandwagon Pacers fan suddenly.
But I mean, this is like, I do feel like we're seeing what happens when you try and play
against OKC.
Like they, they are a historically great, like specifically perimeter defense, you know,
like they will gobble you up.
They will make you look foolish.
And I feel like a lot of people are like, where's Halliburton?
Why is Halliburton not stepping up? I'm like if you just like put if you could like somehow clone SGA and put him on the other team
I feel like he'd be looking terrible right now, too
Because that like their defense is the best thing that any NBA team currently has right now
Yeah
and I mean I I do hope Halliburton like solves it or like figure something out and has like a
Game six like he had
against the Knicks.
But I don't know.
I feel like that to ignore how good their defense is and how much they're causing that
is a little, I don't know, short-sighted.
But one thing they can't do, OKC's defense, they can't stop TJ McConnell.
Nobody can.
Nope.
What?
Nope. Not even the guys at LA Fitness.
How do we think it feels
as an NBA player to get scored on
by TJ McConnell?
He's been doing it for so- he does it to everyone.
No, I know. But like, it's- I feel like
they should have a support group for it
because like, his game looks like
the most average
high school point guard. His shot
is just like, real like 24 hour fitness looking.
Yeah, it's just like a normal good shot.
Like he's like dribbling around in the paint,
not even like thinking about shooting.
And then, you know, we'll hit a fade away, turn around.
Like, I don't know.
It's so wild.
That's the beauty of it is that he makes you think
he's not thinking about it
Yes
He's one of those guys were like he's just dribbling around in circles and you think that he's just trying to stay alive
Down in the paint and like he really is seeing his two pass options and like there's a floater
Yeah, he just takes it his game is like the
Woody Harrelson in White Man Can't Jump.
Like if he could wear that.
I'm sorry, I've never seen a movie.
If he could wear that hat on his head,
like you know, the silly little.
The little running cap.
Yeah, running cap.
Or cycling cap.
I feel like that's the energy that it gives.
And then he still, he had a really good game six.
Yeah.
It is what, like I came into this series believing like you're never safe against the Pacers
and now that magic is starting to, I don't know, I feel like I'm believing less and less
because of OKC and just OKC is doing what the Pacers did.
Like Halliburton was like, we walk you down and like it feels like OKC is walking them
down now.
I think that, I mean, OKC deserves all of the praise, especially what you're saying
about their defense. Like I just, I can't imagine being an NBA player and being like,
uh, okay, they're going to put Caruso on me. All right, he's out of the game. Okay, fine.
They're going to put Dort on me. Okay. Well, now Kacen Wallace is going to come double
team me with Dort. Like I just can't imagine what that feels like as an nba player and so they deserve
so much credit and shea obvious like well deserved mvp all the things but i just don't
think that like a series that is this close three two heading to a game six like the Pacers deserve credit to like yeah
I think you know a 40 plus point game from Jalen Williams is not guaranteed every night
like yeah, they could have the
They were what three shots maybe from Jalen Williams a beat away from being in that game at so many points
They could have taken the lead in the fourth quarter like Like game five was really like felt like, or sorry, game four was really like
Indiana was in control and then like some really strange decisions down the stretch
and like huge missed free throws, strange calls, like a lot of stuff happened to like
tip it in the direction that we're in right now.
So yeah, I don't think it's over by any stretch of the imagination.
No. Yeah.
I hope not.
Yeah, that J-dub performance in game five.
It's crazy.
It shook me to my core to the point that I was hitting our group chat with Jabari and Jack
talking like an undercover cop. I'm like, Jalen Dubb is a problem right now. I'm like,
why did I just put it Jalen Dubb, Jalen Dubb is a problem right now. I'm like, why did I just
put it Jalen Dubb? Jalen Dubb?
Excuse me, sir. I am not a police officer.
Hey, Jalen, my man. Jalen Dubb, as we call you on the streets.
My good man.
Brother.
Yeah. In the group chat, when I have like, you know, friends and colleagues of mine that
are saying like, man, when Jalen Williams is going downhill, like he looks like young
LeBron and that's not something that I immediately laugh at.
I'm like, hmm.
Like that's bad for the rest of the league.
Yeah.
It was an incredible performance.
He, it was just beautiful.
How old is he?
Not old.
Not old at all.
Yeah.
This whole thing is, this whole thing is so wild.
Like they are set for, they're probably about to win the title.
They are the only team that like seems like they haven't figured out in terms of like
what a second apron means.
And I'm sure other teams know that part, and how it fits into their
future.
It feels like they're going to be able to keep their core together in a way that personally,
I think isn't fair.
I also was reading about the draft, because I'm a Sixers fan, this is the most hopeful
that I get to be, is when we're as far from the next season as possible.
I was reading about the draft and I got to the jazz
and they were talking about how the jazz might be able to pick somebody who is more of a project because they lose their pick next year if it's not in the top eight. And if it's not in the top eight,
it goes to OKC. The exact same situation that the Sixers were in this year, like, except ours was like top
five, I think, or top six for tight end.
Like, this is just like how things are now.
Every year a team that is bad has to give their pick to OKC if they're like, if they're
too good.
It's just, yeah.
It's so wild how set they are.
It just feels like, you know, Presti is playing like the most evil uno hand ever like what like like we're just like what how again?
You're holding all of them all the picks. Yeah
Oh, man, at least in the in the jazz's favor. I think that they're just gonna be bad enough to where it doesn't matter
So the the thunder won't get that one
Yeah, that's right. Uh, I do have breaking news from a past guest Megan Gailey, obviously our most loyal
Pacers fan on the show. She messaged me on Instagram because she's in Indianapolis right
now and she went to a couple of games. She said, I just saw coach Jenny, Jenny Busek,
because we were talking about her the last time. She's like, and I said, good luck, we love you.
And then my son said, go Pacers.
And she was so nice with the crying emoji.
And I was like, I knew Jenny Busek was the good one.
Well, I mean, that is inside information.
I'm not sure if the NBA is gonna allow us to give that out.
Hey man, we get scoops, we get scoops.
I hope no sharps are listening
because that's gonna move the line a little bit.
Hold on, Jenny Busek, a good person, is really nice.
And, and her go-pacers.
I mean, this is, this is gonna change some things.
That's what I'm saying.
But yeah.
Listen, when, when Mad Boosties is gone, these are the kind of scoops that you won't get.
Yeah, exactly.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
We're just speaking truth.
And I'm just gonna have to bother people on the bus like I used to with these teams. I think in both cases, the fan base,
like the vibes around both of these teams are really fun.
The Pacers fan base feels like
they just found a bag of money.
Like they're just like unhinged, so happy.
Whereas like, okay, see, seems a little ner,
like they found a bag of money last year
and now they're like a little bit like scared of losing it.
So that's that's my read on the vibes around the team. Like the Pacers fans are just like
partying man, like they are having so much fun. They seem so happy, so excited to be there.
That's like the liberating part of being the underdog, you know what I mean?
Like that weight of expectation isn't there so you can really just kind of enjoy the ride while also, you know, going for it.
Yeah. Yeah. Let's take a break, huh? Come back, talk about the more important news
surrounding, I don't know, the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers.
I haven't heard of that. What's going on?
We'll be back.
Just like great shoes, great books take you places.
Through unforgettable love stories and into conversations with characters you'll never

And we're back.
We're back.
Anything else? Just any final thoughts on the finals final thoughts on the finals finals thoughts
Mmm finals thought because it's gonna be this is our last time to talk about the finals before it is over
Yeah, one way or another the final episode of miles Jack up Matt Booster's will
Recap and the end of the entire series all
171 episodes. Mm-hmm
It will be.
So yeah, we should say that it's going to be
a flashback episode.
The last episode was just gonna be like,
yeah, remember that, Miles?
Yeah, that's how we extend the show,
is we start recapping the podcast.
It's a re-listening.
Like a re-watch. Like an audio commentary
to the podcast. Yeah, exactly.
Remember when Sarah came on and we kept talking about
how we like how Steph Curry shoots from way
downtown because it's so far.
So far.
They're so far.
The thing that struck me about that one is that it's so far.
I noticed that too.
I noticed that too.
My question first off is like with the Desmond Bain trade, I just saw that clip of him taking
shots at the Grizzlies old training facility when he's like How do you feel like with Orlando is like man the Memphis training facility have any windows we called it the dungeon
So excited to just see daylight
That like you got the new uniform on they're asking something like I came from a place we called the dungeon I mean like Bane he was born in the
darkness
for the magic all right so he obviously 40% three- point shooter and they need shooting, but they did
trade like at least, I mean, Cole Anthony could get really hot and like be a knockdown three
point shooter and then contiguous Caldwell Pope was one of their three point options.
So I don't know. Like it obviously does mean Bain is like more of an answer, more of somebody
that you can like go to in your offense. But
it didn't make a ton of sense to me. Like it didn't seem like it's the solution that they're looking for. But am I sleeping on Desmond Bain because of my, he have too much muscles bias?
Your jealousy?
Yeah, jealousy mainly.
Yeah. I think that you might be sleeping on Bain a little bit I mean if we think about like what the Grizzlies were able to do like
In those stretches where jaw was out, but they were still staying afloat
So much of that was because of Bain and like he's capable of so much more than just being like your spot-up shooting guy
like he really does do well and pick and roll like he handles the ball well like honestly their pick and roll numbers were better with Bane because it seems like
Jaw doesn't really like to or know how to play pick and roll very well and so I just
think that he's a lot more capable than maybe he gets credit for but your point is well
taken in that you know they still have like Suggs and other small guys and Desmond Bain is not a big guy.
And so it just, it feels like they're maybe staying small a little bit.
So yeah, I'm not sure exactly what it looks like when the roster is all filled out or
I don't know.
Yeah.
And KCP was bad for them last year, Jabari pointed out.
So it's not like they're, you know, going off of somebody who hit a lot of threes for
them last year. It's just, it feels more like they're just going know, going off of somebody who hit a lot of threes for them last year.
It's just, it feels more like they're just going from one, like, three-point shooting
option to another, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I only watched, like, the Cole Anthony get, like, when I'm thinking of Cole Anthony,
I'm thinking about the game where he just, like, went completely off and, like, was unstoppable
for an entire quarter.
So that the question then turns to Memphis.
Well, so one thing I'll say is that every NBA deal
that happens now, I feel like you're like,
man, they could have gotten a lot more for Luka.
Like, you know?
Yes.
Well, like, come on.
How many first round picks did they get here?
It's kind of amazing.
So Memphis, it feels like could be blowing things up.
Like it might make sense for them to just be like,
all right, let's just do it.
Let's go all the way down to the studs.
Maybe, you know, go all the way down,
get as many picks as possible, you know,
start winning in the future,
and then we can afford windows for our training facility.
Aspirational. Yeah. Yeah, at the beginning of the new season, they put up a banner. They're like,
we getting windows. Decided about like how the season's going to go. We're like, we're going for 60 wins.
The whole Stephen A rant about like Memphis is crying. Like that's not what's actually
important to NBA players. As we know now after this week, it's Windows. Yeah. Like, they just want to see some sunlight.
Vitamin D, apparently. Like, is everyone vitamin D deficient? Come on now.
I guess other things with just, I mean, do we talk Lakers?
Yeah, let's talk about the Lakers. I mean, this is big news.
I mean, isn't it a record deal for the sale of a sports team, actually?
Yeah.
In all the world? Yeah, $10 billion. Mark Walter
is now set to buy the majority stake
in the Lakers. And so what does that mean with Jeannie bus staying as Govna? Govna? What sort of
organizational power comes along with being, hello Govna? I mean, I don't know what kind of, I mean,
like that's probably like an internal decision on whether or not she has any power yet. I think that
I mean, like that's probably like an internal decision on whether or not she has any power yet I think that two things that I can like have frame of reference for is like one
Mark Cuban was supposed to stay on as some sort of power person
Not true, right? Like when you don't own the majority share of the team
Yeah, second frame of reference that I have is that when Danny Ainge was hired as CEO for the jazz
frame of reference that I have is that when Danny Ainge was hired as CEO for the Jazz, he was named an alternate governor. And I think that that just means that you can show
up to like the board of governors meetings as a like proxy for the owner. And so I don't
think that there's actually power in that. It's just a face.
Right.
All right. So this is from Ramona Shelburne. Important note, GenieBus will not only remain
the Lakers governor, but will continue to run the team for, quote, and this hurts how
definitive this is trying to be. The only quote is, at least a number of years.
Uh-oh, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock.
According to sources with knowledge of the deal, in other words, it was guaranteed as part of the agreement
that GenieBus would remain,
but at least a number of years is a little.
You know what a number of years is?
Is one, one is a number.
One is a number.
One is a number.
Half? One half is a number.
Point or one? They didn't say an integer.
They said at least a number of years.
No.
Yeah, the Cuban point is a really good point.
But who knows, I don't know, I didn't get the sense from the Cuban deal that he, when
he did that, I was like, oh, he's like, it feels like he's ready for the next phase of
this, you know?
Whereas the GenieBus thing almost feels like they offered us too much money to say no to.
It's actually impossible for us to say no to this.
Mark Walters got a ton of money and he has access to a ton of money.
And for people who don't know, like what are the other teams?
Yeah, he's the main owner of the Dodgers.
This is the guy who ruined baseball and football.
Yeah, I'm just saying, look, he put two World Series champions patches on our hats.
You want to say that he ruined baseball?
My team is owned by John Fisher.
So the A's.
The A's, that's right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I don't know.
I think everybody's assuming these are people who scoff at the second apron and are just
like, I don't, we're not even going to bother
with that. And they're starting with a Los Angeles Lakers team that has Luka Doncic and
LeBron James. So we'll see where it goes from here.
Can I ask you a question? Like, does this matter?
Matters to this podcast because we are ultimately a Lakers and 76ers fan podcast.
Right. So like for the Lakers section of this, like what do you think is going to happen
or change?
I think maybe just how reckless we can be with spending.
Yeah.
So that's good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think it's good for Lakers fans is what I'm hearing from Lakers fans.
I mean, because you think about like we-
Really good reporting coming from-
Jeannie Buss didn't want to keep Alex Caruso because of the money.
Yeah. You know what I mean? And like those are like sort of these like little decisions that add up
and you're like when someone's just like, baby turn the money hose on. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. And
because he looked like an extra from Chernobyl. I think was what she said. But the yeah, I've
only heard Lakers fans. I've only heard Lakers fans
I've only heard Lakers fans be happy about this news
well
I mean again because in LA our example is he's part of that consortium of owners and the Dodgers and turned things around there
Just became maniacal with our like habit to win and you know
Also, he he's also part owner of the sparks like. Like he's into LA sports and you know, he was also,
he also did try to buy the Clippers in 2014 with David Geffen and Oprah. So I will forgive that,
but we are now your number one, Mr. Walter. So please remember that.
Very Clippers to fumble that one and, you know, miss the chance to have the owner that like
ruins leagues by spending so much
on his team.
All right.
So that sounds cool for you guys.
Let's see.
Other Future the League stuff.
Jack, how do you feel about the Sixers picking Ace Bailey with the third pick?
I'm feeling Sarah Todd.
I'm glad you asked that.
I've been reading a lot about this guy.
I started complaining preemptively about them picking Ace Bailey because I was like, all
right, so as a 76ers fan, I have some experience with picking top players who played on teams
that stunk. Markel Foltz was our number one pick.
And his college team was like 10 and 20 something.
We had Ben Simmons, whose team was like,
I think a little under, like a game under over 500.
He was supposed to be the best player in the world.
And they were, people were just like,
yeah, his teammates stunk. And it's like they were, people were just like, yeah, his teammates
stunk. And it's like, well, yeah, but like, you're supposed to be able to make your teammates
better. Like that's kind of part of being good at basketball. So I was like, knowing
the Sixers, they are going to pick the second player from Rutgers, a team that was bad and had two top five draft picks in it. However, I did take a step back.
I did my breathing exercises and I have taken into account that that was the old regime.
Those picks happened under the, it's a normal collar, find a new angle regime.
the it's a normal collar, find a new angle regime. And since Maury has taken over, I think, so Darrell Maury is guided, like he has some views that are outdated, I think. But so does the rest
of the league. Like he still has the we need three stars to contend thesis that I think we're now
seeing is like maybe, you know, five to six seasons ago.
But his draft picks, the first thing that he did with the 76ers was draft Ty Maxey and
he got McCain last year. I think he's pretty good at drafting. So I am back to being cautiously
optimistic for the first time in a long time. I feel like they might get it right. And also, as we're talking about this, the latest ESPN mock draft has Ace Bailey sliding from third when people first started talking
about the draft down to six. So it might be that people are starting to have the same questions
that I did. And- Well, because he hasn't worked out with a single team.
He's also doing that. He's also being like. The only team that he's scheduled to work out with
is the Sixers.
The Sixers, right, yeah.
Yeah.
Ooh, wait a second.
That sounds like we were like, we like you, man.
You don't have to work out with the rest for some reason.
You're ours.
Yeah, nevermind, I feel bad again.
Okay, so you said you think that the Sixers
might do the right thing.
So is the right thing VJ or Trey?
VJ is the only player besides Cooper Flag that I saw this year and was like, what is
happening?
Like that guy is so good.
But he a lot of it was like athleticism.
And sometimes that is the thing that like you
get to the league and it's just like, oh, nevermind.
So everybody is the best athlete that has ever walked here.
So I don't know.
Like I like what I'm hearing about Trey.
I just, I don't like the Bailey thing for the reasons I mentioned, but I, I'm going
to leave it in, this time I'm going to leave it in Darrell's hands. Yeah, I've decided.
Okay.
So just one set of footsteps on this one, huh?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm going to carry you.
Okay.
I'm feeling a lot like, have you guys ever seen the movie Burn after reading?
No, I've never seen a movie.
Oh, that's right.
You haven't seen a movie.
Canonically.
There's a part at the end where a CIA agent, like after a bunch of people just like, it's
a real messed up situation. And he agent like after a bunch of people just like it's a real
Messed up situation. He's like, so what do we learn?
Damn defined
This podcast run of like talking about the 76ers like I don't know
Burn after reading energy over here. Okay. I think Wembe looks cool with his headshakes. Oh, I love Monk Wemby.
I just love literally anything that he does. It's kind of pathetic to be this much of a
fan of a basketball player who really hasn't done anything, but I think he's perfect.
Just like the videos of him playing soccer, the videos of him playing hoops with the shaved
head.
I'm in it.
Fully in monk mode, yeah.
Hey, people come back with the shaved head.
Sometimes it does something to them.
Look at what happened to Derek White.
My only interaction with Wemby,
beyond just your regular post-game stuff,
was walking through the halls in Utah before a game,
and he was doing his,
you know, juggle tennis balls thing.
And I kind of like didn't realize that he was right there,
which just sounds crazy to talk about like, you know, a seven, four guy like that.
But I just wasn't paying attention.
He's so big, your brain like doesn't process it as a human.
It was like, Oh, that's just a wall.
Oh, that inflatable car wash, man.
And then I looked up and I saw, and I just started smiling because I was so happy to see it
And he was like you want one and he was like gesturing to the tennis balls
And I was like what and then he like as he was juggling tossed me one of the tennis balls
And then I tossed it back in and he kept juggling
So cool, yeah, really cool that's up there, so cool. Yeah, that's really cool.
That's up there with Clyde, Clyde Fraser talking about catching a fly to look cool.
Yes. You know what I mean?
He's like, that's what that's one of my favorite Clyde stories.
Sometimes I just juggle.
You want one?
Whoever wants just throw one in here.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.
Send it back. Oh, oh, oh, you can't stop this.
I do like Miles that you were like, yeah, sometimes people come back with a shaved head
and are really good.
And your example was Derek White and not Michael Jordan.
Balding Derek White.
I mean, but look, Wemby's hairline ain't going,
so I think it'll be different.
This is more focused mode.
This is like hoodie mellow kind of energy.
Maybe there is hope for Trey Young after all.
That's right.
Do you think, has he? Just let go. Has Trey Young after all. That's right. Yeah. Do you think?
Has he? Just let go. Has he done it? No. No. He hasn't. Yeah. Yeah. But if he does. But he could. I know.
Trey, take a page out of Elsa's book, baby. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go.
He just walks into the Hawks workout facility and there's like a circle of like his teammates and Derek
White there. And they're just like, Hey man, we want to talk to you.
Let it go. Intervention. Wow. Hairline intervention. Yeah. Derek White.
He's actually interventionally. Hey Trey. Good to meet you. My name is Derek.
You know, I've been talking with your teammates and I got to tell you, man,
these guys care a lot about you. They care a lot about you.
They're all just here to tell you how much they love you.
They're here to, and if you don't mind,
they're all going to go around and just want to let
you know how much you're loved.
All right, you open here in this?
I think it's going to be great.
Why don't you sit down, Trey?
Yeah, good to meet you.
Yeah, Derek.
Yeah, yeah, good to meet you.
All right.
It is that time.
Let's take a break and when we come back, Miles.
We have to.
Gotta do a tour.
The last one with Sarah?
The last one.
Okay.
Fine.
Let's wrap up our round of questioning. The last one with Sarah? The last one. Okay, fine. Doot, doot, doot, doot, doot, doot.

Sometimes the answer is yes.
But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Across the country, cops called this Taser the revolution.
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

I'm so sorry, Sarah.
I hate to do this to you, but this is the fourth quarter rapid fire round of questioning.
Okay, this is and still will be the fastest question and answer segment in all the sports
podcasting history. We're going to ask you a question and answer segment in all the sports podcasting history
We're gonna ask you a question and you will respond immediately
You will not take your time
You will not slow this segment down and if you take too long, we will be rude to you. Okay?
Can't wait. Yeah, absolutely
God is weeping not these courage.
This is courage, water, courage, water coming out my face.
Courage.
Jack, you want to go first?
Uh, miles, why don't you go first?
Why? And we'll just we'll trade these.
We'll go back and forth. Yeah.
OK, Sarah, I'm going to do a little bit of this or a little bit of that.
Which player would you rather see?
Shay, back in the 90s,
or prime and healthy Penny Hardaway in today's game?
Oh, Penny Hardaway today.
Yeah, that's right.
Wow. 100%.
I mean, that disrespect for Shay.
You mean the question marks around Penny's career
without the injuries?
That is the right answer.
Shay is, I think that he could just fit seamlessly, honestly, in the 90s.
That doesn't really feel like it would change too much.
Yeah, for sure.
Michael Jordan, the aforementioned guy, shaved his head, came back pretty good.
I guess he was good before it. So I respect
the omission miles. Jordan in the modern NBA or LeBron in the 80s. Jordan today. Jordan today is
just like too intriguing. I just want to see what it looks like. We say this every time we keep the
social media. Does he get Twitter? I just like his game though. I just want to see what he's doing in the modern NBA
Also, I would have been a little tiny child in the 80s
Right. No today Sarah wants to see Michael Jordan play
Yeah, for sure
All right, should we do hairstyle intervention for NBA players? Yeah, there's Todd we were already talking about
Should we do hairstyle intervention for NBA players? Yeah.
It's hard.
We were already talking about hairstyle interventions.
So you can't choose Trey because the intervention has already
happened.
Derek White came to him and said, hey, these guys care
about you.
Or you can send someone to Turkey.
Yeah, you can send someone to Turkey.
You can do whatever you want.
But we want some ideas for at least one NBA player
of what they could be doing of what they could be doing
But they could be doing differently with their hair. Yeah
You remember when like Alfred Payton had a crazy thing going on there was Lonnie Walker's crazy thing for a little while
Describe the crazy thing there is just like a either like one large lock that kind of curved in one direction
Yes, the big lock
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and there was a why I mean Lonnie Walker had a bunch of different iterations
But I just think that we need more like that the strange hair like yeah
I'm I'm tired of guys being so normal me, too
I want case and Wallace to have a mohawk. I don't like whatever it is
We just need more interesting hair in the NBA right exactly like yeah
I like I'm in Armin Gilliam with the with the Gumby hair do you know that was fun. Yeah, yeah
The kid was have that for
a little bit Kerry Kittles I feel like he had a little he came in the going on
as a rookie maybe I'm just picturing his one sock when you left Philadelphia
yeah yeah he's just one sock up one down like even uh Jalen Green he had his
curls just oh yeah looking beautiful yeah and and then he just got him braided back and I was like let those curls breathe. Yeah
It's kind of like Jalen Williams, too. I loved how wild his hair was
I'm like, no, you're too focused with these braids. Yeah, let it be wild. Kobe White, Anthony Black also
Yeah, no. Yeah, let it out. Let your hair be wild. Yeah, is anybody doing the right like dyed hair
I think they're I've seen a couple people with dyed hair, but it's not like Rodman Spurs. Yeah. Yeah, like bright green
Yeah, we had Jerry's so handsome a little bit. It wasn't quite there. But yeah
Yeah, didn't you have like straight-up green hair? Oh, he did. Yeah. Okay. He was pretty wild. I remember being like, okay, young man.
Yeah, it was neon green.
We need more of that.
We need more.
Yeah, like, I don't know.
It just feels like the tattoo palette is full.
Like we, you cannot do any more tattooing
to catch our attention, but like the hair.
No, Chris Anderson filled the void.
The hair is a blank, is a open palette.
Yeah. It is.
As the saying goes.
I believe in the youth of the NBA,
because they feel like the ones who are so,
like you think about how loud the on-court trends are
with like kids playing pickup and stuff.
Like Jack, in our day,
we were just wearing some baggy North Carolina shorts.
These kids are wearing like neon socks,
like pink and orange sneakers.
Like that's gonna, I feel like we're close to that with the hairstyles.
For like the team I played on from like third grade to seventh grade had the same shorts that
they'd had since the 70s. Oh same, that was my school too. And they were like Stockton. Stinky.
Stockton was like, no, these are too short. This is, this is profane. Yeah.
And they're like the thickest polyester.
Thick polyester, just like itchy, like, like they were cut from a sweater and they-
Fashioned into shorts.
And like I was, this was a period where like the shorts that I wore when not playing basketball
were just like not like at any other time we're like down like right above my ankles
and so I would sag them to a degree that was like counterproductive.
Basically falling off.
Yeah just basically falling off.
Yeah yeah exactly just like does that guy have the longest torso of all time?
Is that Chet Holmgren?
That sagging style?
On the hair front, yeah
Like some 90s extra tall flat tops like, you know, kid in play stuff. That's what I want to see.
Right, exactly. Bring the Ewing style back, all that.
Yes, yes. I mean, I feel everything's cyclical. So we're bound to like
There's got to be some teenager who's gonna stumble upon an old episode of In Living Color or something.
Like, did you see the hairstyles?
Dude, if we can get 19-year-olds wearing, like, Metallica and Grateful Dead shirts in
post games, we can get some weird hair.
We can get a Gumby haircut, please.
Please, please.
Sarah, who is the player that we won't pay enough attention to that will swing the most
wins next season?
Like getting acquired, getting traded.
What's that little piece?
What's that little piece?
It turns it all up.
I'm interested to see where Austin Reeves ends up.
If he ends up somewhere else, then that could be the one.
There's also kind of a low profile guy named LeBron James on the Lakers who be interesting
to see where he ends up.
Yeah.
I mean, LeBron, maybe, maybe a hairstyle intervention for you, my man.
I've been wanting him to shave his head for a while.
There was that one video where he like shaved his head and looked free.
He was like in the gym and showed off like big beard Crowley bick looked great and then he's been back back fighting a fighting God
He continues to fight God and year by year and so maybe he won't give up yeah, and he's kind of winning
I mean, he's doing many ways he is in a way LeBron keep on fighting man. Keep on fighting the good fight
Well Sarah Todd you got somehow every single one of those answers every time
Absolutely. No, how you do it? Jabbar you sharing the questions with her in advance. Thank you. No, he shared questions with me
You guys didn't ask. Oh, oh
So you've been trying to sabotage her and she still came through with shining colors.
Okay.
Let's see.
He said, uh, gonna ask your opinion on where the following players will play next season.
Didn't do any of that.
Didn't get there.
Didn't get there.
I'll just do it real quick.
Yannis, go.
Yannis, Milwaukee, Braun, LA.
Okay.
Ja, Atlanta.
Ja, Atlanta.
Yeah, you like that?
I like that.
Even though he just tweeted, he's like, I'm a be in the 901 source me yeah, yeah, okay, I
Think that you know when Trey shaves that head
You don't want to add a bunch of sunlight to a freshly bald head no no no no no no no no no no no no
That's sunburned in the dungeon. Oh, you think it's just gonna be one for one Wow
Wow That's sunburned city. Put it in the dungeon. Oh, you think it's just going to be one for one? Wow. Wow.
That would be-
