Listen to the making of a rivalry, Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese
Starting point is 00:01:52 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of mr moran the big trenders that is courtesy of shivani on the discord and discord zeitgang thank you for surfacing it are you through the album yet it's a long one no as it as it stands i've i've just i'm like right up to Auntie Stories. I'm halfway through. I think the best song is about, well, I don't want to fuck with your expectation, but the best
Starting point is 00:02:30 song might be yet to come. Based on what I'm reading, I've seen people are saying so much about that. I know that there's people who you know, there's some interesting takes. Some people are like, this album's fucking trash, man. This shit ain't fucking hitting. They're like, first of all, Kendrick does not
Starting point is 00:02:46 make albums for the club. So please don't be alarmed if there's a lack of club bangers. And I think one of the more controversial elements was that he had Kodak Black on the album when many people are like, to be speaking so much about talking
Starting point is 00:03:01 about trauma and sexual trauma, family trauma and things like that and have someone like Kodak Black with the allegations that he has and things that he's uh admitted to on the album seems a bit like a step back uh based on what you're talking about in the album but yeah it's it's you know i think that and i also seen a lot written about auntie stories a lot of people were saying like oh my god it's like so homophobic but then many other people were like you really need to like listen to the track because like yeah he's he's actually coming out in to show that he's grown and how much he's evolved on the topic yeah it's controversial but like i don't i don't think you can just say fuck that and not not listen to it it's art like you need yeah i think i think there is a point to
Starting point is 00:03:46 or not yeah i'd be about being consistent right with like who your features are uh and or like you know you know drake caught smoke because he was using like r kelly samples and people are like doesn't like they're they're like where's the growth and i think it happens very incrementally uh meanwhile future is like looking at this album he's like do i grow i never liked you anyways okay yeah um okay cool but it's a big big weekend for music i like there's not only that i know people talk about my chemical romance the smile you know the you know radiohead basically album is also just go listen to that for the first track on the smile yeah it's pretty it's pretty dope what's the first track on it let me see i don't know i don't remember the name but it just feels like a
Starting point is 00:04:36 radioheaded uh song well i mean everything about it is you know radiohead because yeah you work and johnny greenwood and i think that they are the only two featured on the first track but um right yeah but then nigel god godrich who's like big radiohead producer is also part of it so like you know i'm not trying to take shots at everybody in radiohead but tom york and johnny greenwood inform so much of the the sound of it hey look i heart radio head uh okay i'm a radio head head so i'm i'm excited but like a lot of their more recent albums i'm like listening to it i'm like all right i'm i'm looking forward to like the sixth listen when i'm like okay now now i get it uh but this first track i was like damn this feels, I don't know, familiar.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Okay. Anyways, a lot of good music, a lot of challenging music. And I got a lot of time. I got a lot of time to listen to it and just sit back and enjoy because my 76er season is over. Thankfully. Do you feel free? I feel nothing but relief that the 76ers season is over.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Before we recorded boosties this week, producer Jabari was watching that game when they evened it up 2-2 against the Heat. And James Harden was hitting threes. You could see the Heat just looking at him being like, wow, there goes our season. I was like, oh my god. This is where I wish I gambled so that I
Starting point is 00:06:17 could monetize the pain of being a Sixers fan. Because I knew for a fact that they were about to lose the next two games. I knew it. I didn't even watch them, which I never watched the losses, but I didn't even need to.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I knew they were going to lose it. So I was, you know, I just checked the scores after the game was over. I was like, all right, there we go. The Mavs extended their series with the Suns, who I think everybody thought the Suns were the favorite. The shoe-in. The shoe-in.
Starting point is 00:06:55 That was kind of the thing that heading into the playoffs, there were a lot of exciting storylines, but the thing kind of laying over it all is, but the Suns are like better than everybody so they're just gonna walk to the finals i heard you know certain nba prognosticators being like i don't i don't think they're gonna lose a game until maybe the finals and the mavericks and luka donchich and uh coach jason kidd and you know a bunch of role players around are playing really, really well. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:31 If the Mavs win, they might be the favorite to win the title. Yeah. I mean, it'll be a tremendous boost for them if they come out of that Game 7 on top. Yeah. And that was good seeding of the word booster in the context of the nba which brings people back and it doesn't make me mad at all to hear that yeah doesn't make me mad to hear boosts uh this brought to you by boost by insure uh nutritional shakes for the elderly um that was what we were trying to evoke with the title of our show right i just wanted to
Starting point is 00:08:02 make sure because yep i i thought i got show. I just wanted to make sure. I thought I got it. Look, we just want to corner their meal replacement shake market for the elderly. The Celtics are about to play the Milwaukee Bucks. It's an elimination game. They got Scott Foster reffing.
Starting point is 00:08:20 We will see what happens. Always interesting. They call Scott Foster the extender because he can make an underdog look good. I don't call him that. They do. I don't because I don't think
Starting point is 00:08:37 about that stuff. I just enjoy the great play of NBA athletes. There it is. Because it is fantastic. Elon Musk. He did it to us. The deal is on hold for now. The deal is on hold. I mean, this dude just knows.
Starting point is 00:08:53 He has somebody whose job it is to keep his name trending, and he knows how to do it. I don't know if this is the thing that he did disingenuously to get his name trending or if the initial offer was the thing that he did to get his name trending.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Earlier this week, he had confirmed that he would bring Donald Trump back to Twitter or allow him back to Twitter once his purchase went through. But now it's looking like
Starting point is 00:09:28 he's going to have to re-evaluate the offer, it seems like. Yeah. I think a lot of his things are like, there's some bot stuff I need to think about. That's why this is on hold. Others are pointing to the fact that
Starting point is 00:09:43 the stock price has gone down and what he's offering is over what the market You know, like, that's why this is on hold while others are pointing this to the fact that, you know, the stock price has gone down. And what he's offering is over what, you know, the market currently values Twitter at. But I don't I don't know what I'm not sure what his end game is here. It's like he's like one of those people like half the time he doesn't do what he says he's going to do. So you don't know if he's going to do another times. He can you know, he likes to be tricksy with it. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:06 It's a it's a will. It's's a will he won't he that i'm that's i'm i i have too many other things on my mind to get too invested at this point yeah i don't i have actually looked at this deal from every angle and i think he's right to put it on hold and he should not buy Twitter, actually. It's just bad. It doesn't make business sense. Elon doesn't compare with the other businesses. Being born with an emerald mine. That's the type of
Starting point is 00:10:36 return you're looking for. I think what a lot of skeptics point to is the fact that because he's borrowing against Tesla's stock, too, that that is fucking up the cost of tesla and now you know his financing could be about to crumble or something like that so uh it's just it's it's a lot it's a lot so he's over leveraged he's uh understaked i don't know what any of that shit means um but i don't think you should buy Twitter. My favorite is watching people
Starting point is 00:11:05 in their replies when they're pointing out that one person who's skeptical is like, this could be what's happening with Elon Musk and his Tesla stock. And I just like these fanboys who just show up. Number one, Musk is one of the most successful businessmen in the history of our country.
Starting point is 00:11:22 That's undeniable. Making your first claim absurd on its face. Two, Musk could buy Twitter three times and still be the richest man in the history of our country. That's undeniable. Making your first claim absurd on its face. Two, Musk could buy Twitter three times and still be the richest man in the world. It's like, holy shit, folks. He's quoted like he's fucking Confucius by business bros. I've heard him quoted in recovery
Starting point is 00:11:38 meetings when the conversation is about spiritual things. They'll bring up an Elon Musk quote. That's where we're at. All right, let's take a quick break and we'll come right back. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series
Starting point is 00:12:02 Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews
Starting point is 00:12:34 with former members and new, chilling, first-hand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Starting point is 00:13:13 Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote.
Starting point is 00:13:38 What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports,
Starting point is 00:14:05 where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys.
Starting point is 00:14:21 I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire?
Starting point is 00:14:37 Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks.
Starting point is 00:15:24 President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And we got to hurry up. Yeah, I know you got to get the old, corny. I'm good. Round time. But you do have better than 2020 vision.
Starting point is 00:16:19 2010. 2010. It's the midterms. Unbelievable. Like, unbelievable vision. It's the 2010 midterms. Unbelievable. Like, unbelievable vision. It's the 2010 midterms when the Dems lost it all. 2010 is my eyesight. I've never heard anybody confident
Starting point is 00:16:34 in their eyesight before. Like, you know, I've heard people just, you know, quietly be like, yeah, I have 20-20 vision. But, like, Miles' eyes have been opened. And, holy shit. Look, i don't even want to talk about the reason i'm so gassed up is because when i was taking my eye test and the follow-up
Starting point is 00:16:52 consultation they were like okay for fun see if you can read this super tiny line and i did and they're like oh okay a lot of people look at that line and would say it's all white they can't see text they started quietly taking notes and like picked up the phone and whispered something into it. And then more guys in white coats came through. Exactly. Yeah. No, it truly sounds like you have superpowers now. The owl has struck. Which is dope.
Starting point is 00:17:16 No, I think it's just for anybody who's worn glasses, I think that's the difference. To see what you would see when you have glasses on without them is a fun time so anyway yeah you'll hear more don't worry what's trying oh friday the 13th is also trending because it is friday the 13th yeah happy friday the 13th you freaked out oh dude jason i'm terrified that's jason right yeah dude yeah that this was like one of my favorite movie franchises when I was seven or eight. Right. Do you think Friday the 13th culturally became this spooky day? Because the number 13 has always been like that, and I know it probably goes beyond that film.
Starting point is 00:18:00 But do you think that made more people be like, oh, fuck, man, Friday the 13th, man, because you know, Hawk the Mask guy. Yeah, I think it probably kept it in the like consciousness more than it like they there was a long time where they were releasing a movie every time it was friday the 13th the new movie would come out oh like they were id'ing friday the 13th on maps and we're like or on calendars and we're like okay so we know our development schedule yeah but i think it goes pretty deep into history um originated with a Norse myth, actually, about 12 gods having a dinner party in Valhalla. That sounds made up, but... Shout out to the 12 gods.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Do not go outside, is my advice, because Mercury is in retrograde, and it is Friday the 13th. You don't want to double up like that. But it's also Stevie Wonder's birthday. Wow. So, you know... There we go. like that. But it's also Stevie Wonder's birthday. Wow. So, you know. There we go.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Take that. And Stevie Wonder, very superstitious, notoriously. Stephen Colbert actually tweeted that. Did he? Yeah, he said,
Starting point is 00:18:56 Stevie Wonder, that's the only reason I saw that is because it's a top tweet. It said, it's Stevie Wonder's birthday and Friday the 13th. Hope he's not very
Starting point is 00:19:02 superstitious. Yes. Jack, you could write for late night i know if i was uh you know cool enough i don't know mike pence trending yes what's going on the devil went down to georgia uh because he went down to georgia to go cape for brian kemp but meanwhile remember donald trump he's's endorsing Mr. Perdue. So, you know, we're getting to see a little bit of head-to-head
Starting point is 00:19:30 basically with their picked candidates. I mean, I think in this one, it seems pretty clear that Kemp is doing pretty comfortably. Kemp is, so like, they're jumping on a winner to be like, see, I'm
Starting point is 00:19:46 better than Trump, basically. Well, I think the big deal is more so that, like, Trump, again, with this race, he's so focused on revenge, and he blames Brian Kemp for not going full rat fuck on the election
Starting point is 00:20:01 in Georgia, so he's like, that's why everything produces like it like we said he opened the debate not saying what he would do as governor he said the election was stolen from donald trump and you're like hold on bro a lot of people are past that some people want you to get to the like homophobia and racism part yeah uh so you know well i don't think uh this is going to be you know trump's picks and uh primaries have been pretty good actually so far but this is the one where i think somewhere like that this is this ain't it but yeah whatever and it's pennsylvania when's pennsylvania happening because that that one's interesting because that was the one where um pompeo is like trying to trying to like set
Starting point is 00:20:45 himself up as the opposition um by you know going with the guy against oz trump went oz and then there's a third candidate who's like ultra super mega yeah kathy barnett who's like a mature candace owens right yeah yeah who's out here and it's wild because it's kind of one of those things that happens like when you have your top two performers just in a straight up scrap with each other it allows for someone to take the inside you know edge right there straight inside what do you call that inside straight yeah yeah because like they're too busy with each other and it's like whoa look who's look who's's moving up. And Trump has already said, if she wins, she'll have my support.
Starting point is 00:21:28 It's like, wait, hold on, bro. I thought you were with us. Right. But that's where they're at right now. Is Inside Straight a horse racing thing or a poker thing? Inside Straight is from poker. Ah, okay.
Starting point is 00:21:41 And I mean, we don't even have time to get into the staircase. we'll just say uh you know r.i.p to fred ward uh who started yeah uh i am watching the staircase we'll we'll get caught up uh i'll get caught up to everything that's been released and then maybe we can talk about it trending next week but that is something i've got my eye on. Or is it weekly, The Staircase? It's weekly. And there's four episodes out. Is Colin Firth good? Colin Firth is in it, right? Killing it. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:22:12 I've only seen like three of the documentary episodes and Anna says incredible. Anna, prestige casting? No. She won't give you prestige casting. I don't know. Wow. We got it. It's a lock, folks.
Starting point is 00:22:27 You must tune in. Anna has already determined. It's prestige casting. Fuck, now I'm going to watch it. Yeah, yeah. There's too much shit to watch. She said from the ass-eating scene alone. Spoiler alert.
Starting point is 00:22:43 I mean, it's not a spoiler. This man knows what he's doing back there yeah yeah but it's somebody who very specific very strange you know on camera in the in the documentary and colin frith is absolutely nailing the performance while bringing something to it it's not just like a an impression got it but But we do want to say RIP to Fred Ward. For all the 80s kids out there. Yeah. He's a recognizable
Starting point is 00:23:12 face. I did not know that that person's name was Fred Ward. And I feel like, I don't know, Fred Ward I'm picturing a 1950s sitcom dad but he's you'll know him
Starting point is 00:23:27 when you google him good in a lot of stuff I mean if you're old school tremors naked gun 33 and a third yes you know the player is a good prestige film exactly
Starting point is 00:23:41 alright well those are some of the things that are trending on this Friday, the 13th. Stay safe out there. Yeah. Be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all on Monday.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Bye. Bye. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult.
