Starting point is 00:02:27 Great opening scene. Great. What happens is that like during the boxing match? Yeah, with that mega long runner shot. Right. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Who directed that?
Starting point is 00:02:39 Was that Ridley Scott? I feel like it was like some. I remember being like, it was like early days of me being like i'm into movies and uh it's tony tony scott yeah i remember being like this is actually like a cool director you guys this is uh anyways that movie has nothing to do with the gi joe character um just fun crime film just something to think about oh also another thing to think about we got a live show next wednesday august 25th come through 6 p.m pacific 9 p.m eastern and if you can't make it don't worry if you buy your ticket you will be able to watch a video on demand version although if you can make it you'll get to interact with us yes if you can
Starting point is 00:03:23 it will be going off in the chat. You can interact with me, Jack, special guest Chris Crofton, also super producer Anna Hosnier. We'll all be there in the digital building for us to congregate together. So get your tickets at momenthouse.com slash the daily zeitgeist. Know the feeling of having Anna Hosnier yawn at you when you make a comment. And it will make you stronger though seem disappointed yeah that's that's what causes all our growth she's like i have never yawned so bored by us um it's good though because we are always striving to make someone like a show that uh doesn't like
Starting point is 00:04:07 the show you know and uh it's like having a disapproving parent uh that drives michael jordan to be michael jordan exactly it's like it's like getting over one disapproving parent and swapping it in for a new one to continue your journey with your therapist uh all right miles other than uh the daily zeitgeist live show that is happening on august 25th trending uh what is trending uh-oh rick flair drip might mean something new oh no oh no miles it's not rick flair it can't be Ric Flair. This is really blowing up. There's a picture of somebody going down on somebody on the Long Island Railroad. Oh, is it on the LIRR right there?
Starting point is 00:04:54 I thought so. I thought that's what they were saying. Makes sense. Yeah, people getting wild on the train. Yeah, all you see is someone's legs up in the air, and then you see the back of some slicked back white hair just going to town. Yeah, hands on the cheeks.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Yeah, it's wild. And I think the joke started off as like, oh, no, Ric Flair is wilding, but it could be, but I don't think so. I'd like to think that our heroes will commit to cunnilingus or analingus in the privacy of their own vehicle. It's just so aggressive. Yeah, but proud of them, whoever they are,
Starting point is 00:05:38 just letting their feelings speak to them on the Long Island Railroad. What a nice way to describe that the Long Island Railroad. What a nice way to describe that if you're a parent. Those are just two people whose feelings, they're following something. Now that you bring up being a parent that does probably not the most appropriate place to do that
Starting point is 00:05:57 but I do, I think I remember taking the Long Island Railroad and they serve booze on the train so that might help to explain what's going on here hey but some people they're just motivated by the lord to to do the all you can eat train buffet like that so don't don't not always the alcohol that's true captain america 4 is trending because they just announced that they closed the deal with Anthony. Oh, that's what it is?
Starting point is 00:06:28 It's like he was waiting to sign the ting? I believe that's right. Oh, wow. I'm seeing video of him as Captain America, but I believe that is from a previous film or TV show. You can't tell with Marvel these days, but yeah. Do we know what he's going to do as Captain America? Like who's the bad guy he's fighting? Is it white supremacy?
Starting point is 00:06:49 Probably. I don't know though, but yeah. Let us know. Marvel fans, are you excited? Hey, and make sure they, make sure to check all that paperwork. Make sure it's right. Yeah. How they do with these contracts.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah. Make sure you're getting the streaming revenue if we're still mid-pandemic. Doesn't seem like it's entirely out of the realm of possibilities. Make sure you're getting some of that Disney Plus rev. Speaking of the fact that this thing is not stopping, we are learning there's going to be boosters in September for the vaccine believing among us. Not believing.
Starting point is 00:07:30 It's not anything to believe in. Those of us who have faith, you know. Yeah. Faith in Lord Pfizer. I'm hoping that I can get the Moderna, mix it up. I heard that's extra good when you do a little mixture. Half and half. A little half and a half. little 50 50 yeah i see uh i'm you know i'm brand loyal so i'm gonna be moderna all the way to the end um but yeah i guess the whole thing is that it's not because the it will
Starting point is 00:07:58 definitely protect you against hospitalizations you know that isn't falling off but it seems like the protection against infections is what seems to be dissipating dwindling yeah it is protecting people from getting profoundly hospitalizable sick fantastic so it'll feel like something you don't require professional medical attention for which which most of us have experienced that with our common flus and colds. Imagine that, something that could be killing people, that that is the benefit of it. But here we are. And people, this is causing people to be like,
Starting point is 00:08:32 so is this never going to end? And that's usually the case for, like, viruses. I think they were predicting that from the start, that, like, they will get this into some sort of equilibrium where we get a shot every year like we are supposed to be getting the flu shot every year and it will just be something that we deal with but we'll also you know get better at dealing with it so it's not killing yeah well it's funny the people's anger when they're like oh so this is supposed to go on forever yeah like that's the
Starting point is 00:09:02 energy of someone who is then trying to ask for a superior after like that like that couldn't possibly be their reality and they're like refusing to accept it so they're just resisting that reality that yeah that is a thing welcome to fucking earth to quote will smith uh but yeah we're gonna have to navigate things day to day. Oh, so we just got to. I got to use my brain now. Think about this from now on. Come on. What's next? A black Captain America? All right. Let's take a quick break and we'll be right back. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks.
Starting point is 00:10:00 President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity
Starting point is 00:11:11 to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning. In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Santos! Santos! Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of my Cultura podcast network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you stream podcasts. How do you feel about biscuits? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit,
Starting point is 00:12:50 where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County Rebels with the image of... It's right here in black and white in the prints of a lion. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team?
Starting point is 00:13:21 I'd just take all the other stuff out of it. On the segregation academies, when civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and we're back uh and during the break we tried to figure out who i was thinking of who got rich off of streaming uh because of a smart deal made a long time ago and uh you know who was
Starting point is 00:14:01 it's trey parker matt stone for south park oh oh because didn't they just really secured the bag but yeah they uh back back in the day um when they were first like kind of negotiating with comedy central to do i don't know 20 more seasons of of that show they were like okay but like we want streaming like we want a cut of streaming revenue and they were like okay yeah whatever that means and then hey how about we give you all of it now they're like now they're bankrupt uh r kelly is trending uh the r kelly trial another one has begun um yep this is uh yeah i mean he you know he'd been hearing the same song about r kelly for a long time yeah and this they just started off the assistant u.s attorney like the words they used just opening argument said this case is about a predator who quote used his fame
Starting point is 00:15:03 his popularity in a network of people at his disposal to target groom and exploit young girls boys and women for his own sexual gratification and it was like yeah one hour speech apparently that was given in that opening argument so yeah i mean i'm i'd imagine this would be a pretty quick case um yeah but yeah it's like i mean this is all going on with all kinds of other shit we just heard bob dylan over the weekend yeah was being accused of grooming like a 12 year old in the 60s and then horatio sands also oh really um yeah that he was accused of grooming someone back when he was on snl jesus christ um yeah this is people people out here ain't shit. Carrie Underwood is under fire for liking a video that was railing against the school mask mandate.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Yeah. I mean, it energized, you know, it's like you do something like that you your fan base is gonna split into and it just seemed like some people like yeah man that's her right to you know fucking like that which totally is but then there are other people who are like really like i guess upset but i don't know but yeah the mask the school mask debate is like even our kids school is like it's getting spicy because like some parents want them kept on, like even when the kids are outside and some parents don't. And it's like people aren't having this conversation quietly. It's like going straight up. And at least the school is, you know know demanding masks be worn inside can you imagine
Starting point is 00:16:48 at some other schools though i mean i think of like uh like if you go to a private school all it takes is like three wealthy families at like a private elementary school to be like we're fucking out of here unless you give us like fucking opt out sheets or whatever the fuck and then it's all for nothing so yeah that's happening with uh the teaching of critical race theory too that like a couple of rich families will uh i've heard of them getting like the entire school board and principal fired right for teaching that because you know they don't want to hurt their children's feelings and make them feel bad for you know having inherited a bunch of money oh your kids are that empathetic that they'll even if let's game that out that they should learn something about history and be like
Starting point is 00:17:36 i'm so sorry i'm white and i know i had something to do with slavery i'm seven no no and then finally a couple couple Happy couples in the news You got Pete Buttigieg and Chaston Who have become parents They're early in the stages of adoption But they have confirmed that they will be Adopting a child which is wonderful
Starting point is 00:17:58 Beautiful And Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost are having Just had their babies just two two pillars yeah of society yeah uh shout out to this that's her first that's their first kid huh i don't think that's scarlet and uh that's a everyone look at everyone having their kids it's just love you know i love love i've always said that um because i'm very famously quick question yes i think about being
Starting point is 00:18:26 a parent from time to time i don't know if you could hear my kids just come home and start screaming at the top of their lungs i mean look i have enough young i have many friends with young kids around me where they're like who the joke is i was like you want mine you want mine um but i'm always thinking of like the climate and Earth future. I saw a thing, too, that especially now after seeing that IPCC report that there are a lot of younger people who are reconsidering having kids or maybe not immediately because they want to feel that there's an Earth that they can live in somewhat reliably.
Starting point is 00:19:02 How do you envision the future for your kids because i you know like word by the time you know it's time for us you know shit will be changing but not as bad as it'll be you know like where our kids would be you know yeah or six have you seen the movie hannah the way that uh eric banna trains his daughter to just kill with everything. I was going to say, that one with the little... I mean, that's how I'm thinking about it, man. It's just... Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:19:32 No, it's a horrifying prospect, and I don't know. I'm definitely open to getting the fuck out of the United States as it continues to kind of contribute to the problem. And like the way that old people just have like all the they just become exaggerated versions of themselves. I feel like that's what is going to happen to these societies. Like all the problems are going to get worse, but I don't, I haven't, I haven't figured it out yet. Cause I got my head too much down on just the,
Starting point is 00:20:09 you know, minute to minute of, uh, teaching my kids how to, how to chase down a deer and kill it with their bare hands. Right. Exactly. And how to properly bleed it out and do all that.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Yeah. Well, okay. Thank you. That helps me feel better. Good. Uh do all that. Yeah. Well, okay. Thank you. That helped me feel better. Good. Uh, all right.
Starting point is 00:20:26 That is going to do it for us on this Wednesday afternoon. We are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show. We are back, uh, a week from today with a live streaming, uh, interactive extravaganza with Chris Crofton. Uh,
Starting point is 00:20:43 so go get those tickets. Um, until then be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Wear a mask. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye.
