Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of New York, the Trenpire State, which I am pleased to welcome back Miles from. Welcome back from the Trenpire State, Miles, which you are. The Wind Apple. Great to be back in town. The old Wind Apple.
Starting point is 00:02:20 You know, I got the best compliment. Somebody who, a friend of mine was a New Yorker. They were like, damn, I was like, you got your york clothing game on point and i was like thank you so much yes i did i bring a bubble goose jacket yes did i bring a camel coat like a long coat yes did i layer the fuck out that shit i did i did did you have tims did you wear tims to the wedding oh see i had to bring carry-on shit if you bring tims and you're fucking's did you wear Tim's to the wedding see I had to bring carry-on bring Tim's and your fucking carry-on like you can only yeah it's like half your baggage
Starting point is 00:02:49 it's like you gotta bring like a bowling ball bag you're just right I mean yeah look or you like hang them off your backpack like their basketball shoes or something yeah all right well I am Jack you are miles and here are some things that are trending on this Monday.
Starting point is 00:03:09 This is the first we're talking to you after the long holiday weekend. And we lost Virgil Abloh is trending or was trending over the weekend. The brain and vision behind Off-White passed away at 41 uh from like cancer which he kept secret uh which is so tragic so tragic like you know truly uh we i mean we have a merch that is modeled after off-white stuff yeah of course you know he's like his his design sense is uh you know created created a lot of trends a lot of people copying him and just change the game overall and uh it's yeah man it's just wild to see like people you know when they're sort of battling their health issues secretly and then suddenly you know it's all it's all gone so uh rest in
Starting point is 00:04:06 peace to virgil abner yeah absolutely uh get back is trending uh the beatles uh there there's this like two minute clip where uh that was clearly uh leaked by mccartney's people because it shows uh it starts off with paul mccartney being like lennon's late again and then in two minutes comes up with uh basically the song get back uh from the let it be album the lead single from let it be uh which was their last album i think um and yeah it's kind of cool to like see it like starts off with him like humming something that like roughly it's it's like watching you know if you didn't know what you were watching you would think you were watching somebody who vaguely remembered the song get back like kind of figuring it like remembering it because he's like starts Cause he's like, sorry, sorry. He's like, like just like humming loudly.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Uh, one of the notes. And then like, it kind of coalesces. Uh, and it's, it's pretty cool to see. And then John Lennon rolls in at the very end and picks up his guitar and
Starting point is 00:05:16 acts like he's been there the whole time. Um, so, and they, they get co-writing credit on, on the song. So I think this is, this is big, uh mccartney propaganda
Starting point is 00:05:26 uh what's yeah i mean as someone who's so disconnected from the lore of the beatles and everything around it the mythos is it satisfying i mean i like that george harrison one that shit was good uh which george harrison one the one that was on hbo oh the docu the documentary yeah yeah yeah like that's like my that yeah oh man really good but again like so it's interesting how sometimes i'll get i'll watch some beatles stuff because i hear it so good and other times i'm like what are what the what what say if the beatles fans yeah um it's uh first of all, I don't, I only watch, uh, documentaries, uh, if clips go viral of them and then I just watched them in a little bite-sized viral clips. Um, but yeah, no, it's interesting to see.
Starting point is 00:06:16 It's interesting to see the process. I'm definitely not a like Beatles head by any, by any stretch, but but um you know definitely having a renaissance with the beatles because they are great children's music because their songs are uh like very very simple and basic and uh and they get in your head get in your head man get get right in there we watch uh one of the one of their songs get in uh paul mccartney said um okay i it's interesting because like i think people are like projecting a lot onto this uh like they're people like you can actually like see george harrison like realizing oh shit mccartney's got something he's yawning and like trying not to pick his nose for most of the the clip he's just like i i but i think
Starting point is 00:07:06 because it is like holy shit the process behind the beatles um right people are into it but you know that is a i think beatles fans like to you know go back and forth about like lennon was the real genius behind the band and it's like jordan pippen it's like you know they're both great yeah sure maybe one might get more shine but you kind of need them all yeah um and uh jack dorsey is trending because he stepped down and uh you know people are a flutter uh they're really care about this for some reason i feel like i don't know enough to understand why why this is a big deal since i feel like he's constantly like going back and forth from being the ceo to not being the ceo and it also seems like twitter has like the smartest thing they've
Starting point is 00:08:00 done is just like not really add features that much and just like kind of sit back and like not do shit um so i don't know how hard that's going to be to keep up but um i don't know yeah i don't okay well i mean i know he left that's right because he came back to twitter like a few years ago yeah and was like all right let me help you guys make this thing a billion dollars again it's my steve jobs moment yeah i don't know what i mean i wish i cared uh i don't i'm glad you don't i mean look i hope the new ceo uh comes through and is like all right man so fuck this ain't no hate speech place but but that's not going to make money. So they'll probably be like, and Donald Trump is back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Hey! Hey, Donnie! I mean, I do wonder, shit, now that you mention it, I wonder if he was under pressure. I know their share price was down 10% this year. I know that only because that was like one of the first things mentioned when he announced he was stepping down. Um,
Starting point is 00:09:09 and I bet there's a lot of, uh, a lot of people being like, just let Trump back. He's great for business, man. That guy's, that guy's a riot.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Am I right? Um, so shit. Hopefully, hopefully not. Hopefully that's not why he's stepping down. Uh, Parag Agrawal, who's taking over.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Please don't let Trump back in. Come on. All right. Let's take a quick break and we'll come back and talk about some other shit. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films
Starting point is 00:10:00 and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members
Starting point is 00:10:17 and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente.
Starting point is 00:10:42 And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do,
Starting point is 00:11:12 like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote, what is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, or wherever you get your podcasts. of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day
Starting point is 00:12:05 and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire?
Starting point is 00:12:20 Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Starting point is 00:12:52 This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI
Starting point is 00:13:23 in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And Kemba is trending.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Kemba Walker, New York Knicks. He's with the Knicks this year. You know, he's had some hot games. He's a hometown hero. Yeah. This dude used to light it up at the Big East tourney. Had some incredible games for yukon there and you know everyone was like shit he's going to msg he's good like that being his
Starting point is 00:14:12 home court is going to be wild he's had some like fun games some flashes where you're like oh shit kemba's back um but it was just announced that he has been removed from the rotation of Tom Thibodeau. Yeah. What is he playing? He's like, are they playing like three shooting guards or something? They have a very interesting lineup or the way they've been playing recently. Because I only caught on to like looking at how the Knicks were performing. Because at first, like, oh, great.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I love hearing about someone playing for their hometown team. Like that always excites me. I feel like, oh, maybe this will be a good fit and cut to this moment where he's like yeah it's just it's just it's just what's right for the team uh so that's you know because what he's putting up career lows yeah across the board yeah um and i the the quotes from thibodeau uh who is the coach he's like very defensive-minded very like you know bully ball minded uh which the league is moving in his direction because they're not calling a lot of the fouls they used to call yeah um the way he was talking about kemba walker was sounded like he had cut him from the team.
Starting point is 00:15:30 He was like, I respect the hell out of Kemba and everything he's done in his career. Right. Which is, I don't know. I wouldn't want to hear that if I was Kemba Walker. Yeah. Especially when you're like, this quote, it's a tough decision to make, but you always have to do what you think is best for the team. I view Kemba as a starter, so it'd be tough to play three small guards together. I gave it consideration, and I've got great respect for who Kemba is as a person and all he's accomplished in the league.
Starting point is 00:15:55 You act like this dude is getting set off on a funeral pyre or something to go float out off into the abyss. But then he said, but I have to do what i think is best for the team shout out to a coach that does that yeah well from the beautiful game to uh soccer ballon d'oro is uh trending oh so you're looking at the the spanish language version okay i like that there's that there There's also the French ballon d'or. Okay. I think it's trending all over because Lionel Messi won what is seen as the biggest baller of the year award for soccer. Got it. A lot of people were like, well, he definitely had a decent time with Barcelona in his last last season there but i think a lot of people are looking at robert levandowski who plays for
Starting point is 00:16:48 bayern munich he's a polish striker who in 2020 and he would have won the ballon d'or in 2020 he was so good but because of everything that went down they can't they didn't give an award that year wow and it's like bro that was you should have gave it to him what are you what the fuck are you doing levandowski got robbed yeah so you know uh there's there's all kinds of opinions uh about that but you know uh shout out to to lionel messi you know still doing the damn thing uh but i but uh levandowski did win a striker of the year but that's not some shit that's your no you that's that's not that's not the that's not the honor you're looking for or you want to be lifting that golden ball above your head
Starting point is 00:17:36 and uh messy this is messy seventh of these oh look at you so uh yeah now my my google works my google works okay okay no messy fan yeah but he's one i mean it's after at a certain time it was just him and cristiano ronaldo trading balance right after you right um is he like does that make sense to you? Is he that far ahead and shoulders above everybody else? Lionel Messi? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, his place is his place is sealed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:13 World football. Like it's it's it's unassailable at this point. I think this is where people might start nitpicking over statistics. And, you know, if the output was what it could be his best compared to others who like exceeded that then you're kind of getting into the weeds i'm not i'm i'm more pissed off that there wasn't a 2021 given to levendowski than me being upset that lano messi won this year yeah got it and also you know pedri they have like a like they also give out an award for like the best young star and another Barcelona kid, Pedri. He won it over my dear Bukayo Saka of Arsenal.
Starting point is 00:18:52 But, you know, let's let's be real. I think Pedri is having a bit of a better time than you can say that again, man. Thank you, Jack. Spider-Man No Way Home is trending or was trending over the weekend because they put tickets on sale on Fandango and it crashed like multiple ticket sites. People are jazzed to see this movie. This is one that when I saw the trailer, I was like, this looks like a after feeling like Marvel movies had been overtaken by portals in the sky.
Starting point is 00:19:22 This looked like the, you know, firework finale of portals in the sky where it's just like nonstop portals in the sky this looked like the uh you know firework finale of portals in the sky where it's just like non-stop portals in the sky but uh you know they also are bringing through they're having the spider-man universes converge and because people didn't give spider-verse the the love it deserves because it's animated uh this is a big deal for people i mean did people not give it the shit was it just people loved it like people definitely liked it but i feel like it's probably like the younger fans are like well it's a fucking cartoon so it's not i don't know um it just it feels like this is being treated as like this is the crossover event that like everybody's been waiting for. And I get that because like the the live action ones are the ones that people have seen and that have done it the most and more.
Starting point is 00:20:18 I mean, more B.O. like the I'm going to say it like the B.O. on Spider-Man movies. The box office has been downright boffo okay boffing it up yeah big buffer i'm you know i'm not afraid to say tell them tell them tell it tell it on high i i was definitely guilty of being like man that's a motherfucking cartoon i watched it and i'm like i'm dumb as fuck like that was so fucking good yeah and i should stop like with my like 15 year old perception of what animated anything is right i mean i'll watch a lot of other animated stuff but yes my first instinct was like i'm good on that until every person who has a decent opinion was like you're
Starting point is 00:21:00 dumb for not watching it and then i was like thank you so much for that for that treat shout out to caitlin dorante aka latin dancer uti uh the the anagram yeah uh you know has the most anagramable name one of one of our favorite guests on daily zeitgeist i'm just a uh devoted champion of the films that she loves in a way that like you can't really ignore them. You can't, you, you feel bad not seeing the movie and that, you know, into the spider verse was one of those where I think she single-handedly got me to watch it and I loved it. And same with Paddington, too. Yeah. So shout out to her. All right. Those are some of the things that are trending on this Monday afternoon.
Starting point is 00:21:51 We are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Get your booster. Wear a mask. Get tested if you need to. Don't do nothing about white supremacy.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. I'm Carrie Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history.
