In California during the summer of 1975,
Starting point is 00:01:36 within the span of 17 days and less than 90 miles, two women did something no other woman had done before, try to assassinate the president of the United States. One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nickname Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer,
Starting point is 00:01:59 this season on the new podcast, Rip Current. Hear episodes of Rip current early and completely ad free and receive exclusive bonus content by subscribing to i heart true crime plus only on apple podcasts hello the internet and welcome to this episode of north london is trend it's right oh boy wow wow you hate to see see it. I feel like I just got roped into some shit talking that I'm not even really aware of. Yes, you did. Because, wow. God.
Starting point is 00:02:30 You hate to see it if you're a Tottenham fan. Or you love to see it if you support the Arsenal. I believe the score was, what, 3-1? Shout out to all the people just talking shit in the buildup. And then, where'd you go? Where'd you go? Okay. Well, see you later. Anyway, that was the bright spot of my week uh was watching us triumph over Tottenham so had to get that in
Starting point is 00:02:52 there has the season kind of rebounded prior to this or was this kind of the first big win well what was really interesting was at a certain point after the first few games Tottenham was in first place and Arsenal was in 20th place like literally at opposite ends of the spectrum and then we started turning our shit around and with our win yesterday we just went above them wow so things change very quickly you gotta keep your head on a swivel uh and you know it just look they got a new manager i'm sure you know they'll they'll be okay but you know in these derbies it's all about bragging rights so shout out to all my gooners out there celebrating is darby like derby but derby but yeah they pronounce it darker yeah so they raise each
Starting point is 00:03:33 other around a dirt track yes exactly cool you know football booty uh r kelly is trending because uh he is officially guilty as fuck not just a guilty as fuck to everybody with working, uh, eyes and senses. Um, and so that was just came, that just came down, that just came down.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Uh, the decision came down Monday afternoon. The trial included 50 witnesses overall, and apparently the defense was kind of muddled and confusing it wasn't really clear what they thought was happening yeah it was it was hard to just kind of keep track or just keep up with that uh entire trial just even like from a distance because it was just so like the testimony was harrowing from a lot of the witnesses that took the stand and then to know like his defense was like just i think they were literally evoking martin luther king in their like closing statement
Starting point is 00:04:29 before the defense rested and you're like this is all kinds of fucking bad um so hey look at that bit of accountability one of his witnesses said he had never seen r kelly around a uh underage girl and then also said that he was there when r kelly met alia who he married when he was she was she was still child 14 yeah so yeah just it's good to see some accountability there um and yeah uh snl is trending um because uh new cast members were announced and former Daily Zeitgeist guests, Sarah Squirm and Aristotle Athari are both members of the cast. Big news. I mean, look at it. Look at it.
Starting point is 00:05:23 I'm not saying it's all tdz but i mean clearly clearly also beck bennett is uh leaving the show uh lynchpin of the show for eight seasons uh was probably leaving to pursue other big things but i'm just gonna say be mac bennett he's never been a guest never easy no and he's leaving the show so um what does that tell you yeah not a lot but depends on your bias yeah that's cool to see them on there i'm oh man aristotle's so talented i did uh uh his podcast recently and it's just a, just super fun guy. And Sarah was great to have on too. So I'm looking forward to what their contributions will be this coming
Starting point is 00:06:11 season. Yeah. The Aristotle show. Uh, this is Americans lot. Yes, exactly. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Yes. You know, if you want to see me improvise very chaotically stop by it's, it's, it's, it's a whole, it's a whole good time. William Shatner was trending because he is apparently slated to be part of the second rich guy's trip to the moon thing.
Starting point is 00:06:37 The second crew to take the space flight in the New Shepard capsule, the dick machine, which would make him the oldest person ever to be launched into space. Damn. That's wild that he's 90. Yeah. Is that, uh, is that okay?
Starting point is 00:06:56 Is that advisable? Uh, yeah, it seems weird to, you know, I, I get the thinking on Jeff Bezos and blue origins part that, well,
Starting point is 00:07:08 it's captain Kirk. So of course we're going to like that. That's just a great headline that dipshits like, uh, those guys at the daily zeitgeist will cover. Um, and you know, a hook,
Starting point is 00:07:22 line and sinker. But I do hope that they have thought through the implications of sending a 90 year old to space other than just, you know, having seen the movie Space Cowboys. I mean, I look I love where his heart's at, you know, but also have you considered where your heart will be at when you're up in there? Because it could it could i don't know i mean and look if it's safe for 90 year olds and shit good for you i hope you can uh you know i hope you put on your star trek outfit too just for fun you know just to kind of like fully make it all real space cowboys uh by the way i think the oldest member of that cast was Clint Eastwood. Um, and he was 70 at the time of that. So,
Starting point is 00:08:08 uh, we're, we're looking at 20 years older than that. Okay. Well, you know, uh, I hope you were able to convalesce in space.
Starting point is 00:08:19 I do too. I, yeah. I have more power to William Shatner, one of our great spoken word artists. Oh yeah. Um, all right,
Starting point is 00:08:28 let's take a quick break and we'll be right back. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session.
Starting point is 00:08:51 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out?
Starting point is 00:09:04 I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from? Like what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Hi, I'm Eva Longoria. Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon. Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back. Season two.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Season two. Are we recording? Are we good? Oh, we push record, right? And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita, followed by the mojito
Starting point is 00:10:03 from Cuba, and the piƱa colada from Puerto Rico. So all of these, we think, Latin culture. There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey that dates back to the 9th century B.C. B.C.? I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to Hungry for History as part of the My Cultura podcast network,
Starting point is 00:10:23 available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How do you feel about biscuits? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? I mean, the Boone County rebels will stay the Boone County rebels with the image of the biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. A lion.
Starting point is 00:10:57 An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch is a leader. You choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I'd just take all the other stuff out of it. On the segregation academies, when civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot.
Starting point is 00:11:21 You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In a galaxy far, far away. No, babe, that's taken. We're in our own world, remember? Right, in our own world. We're two space cadets.
Starting point is 00:11:43 And totally normal humans Sure, totally normal humans Embark on a journey across the stars Discovering the wonders of the universe One episode at a time We'll talk about life, love, laughter And why you should never argue with your co-pilot Especially when she's always right
Starting point is 00:11:59 Right, and if we hit turbulence Just blame it on Mercury retrograde Or Emily's questionable space piloting skills. Hey, join us on In Our Own World for cosmic conversations, stellar laughs, and super corny dad jokes. Listen to In Our Own World as a part of the My Cultura podcast network available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And don't worry worry we promise to avoid any black holes most of the time and we're back uh and a newscaster has been suspended for trying to acknowledge the trend of missing white women syndrome. His name is Frank Somerville.
Starting point is 00:12:49 He's a veteran news anchor in the Bay Area in California. And apparently got in an argument with Channel 2 management over a tagline he wanted to include in the reporting about Petito's murder. He wanted to acknowledge that, hey, we really cover the hell out of missing white women versus missing women of color. And he said, hey, don't bring that up. Yeah. Don't bring, don't. What are you, some kind of journalist reporter trying to bring things to light for the audience?
Starting point is 00:13:19 Just stop that. Get back in there, Frank Somerville. Just stop that. Get back in there, Frank Somerville. Man, that just sucks that he took a stand, reading that he's like adoptive father of like a black teenage girl. So this was like resonating with him. He's like, I'm only seeing one kind of face
Starting point is 00:13:35 when we cover this. Yeah. You know, there are other people that live in this country too, not just the Gabby Petitos. Wow. So is he like fired or they're doing that thing where it's like he's gone for a little bit we'll see he's suspended for an indefinite amount of time yikes
Starting point is 00:13:53 um we'll see apparently this is his second suspension of the year in may he was taken off the air following a stumbling newscast and bizarre on-air behavior no word if that bizarre on-air behavior was acknowledging systematic white supremacy or like what their version could you imagine stumbling through a statement uh about racism or something get out of here we're saying words like systemic white supremacy i don't it's just a bunch of mumbo jumbo you know those aren't even words frank frank somerville by the way great name uh just great tv name great tv name you got frank somerville that's like a superhero's alias yes yeah all right here's something that you're not gonna believe miles okay try our boy tony robbins uh you know of our favorites. We take a lot of our cues from Tony about just the power of positivity.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Oh, absolutely. Personal power. Smile your way out of anything. Bankruptcy. Yes. He's saying a bunch of typical dumb bullshit that anti-vaxxers love. dumb bullshit that anti-vaxxers love. But his last most recent line of reasoning was wrong statistic claiming 1,200 people die per day in the U.S. in car accidents when the actual number is closer to 100.
Starting point is 00:15:19 And he was, I think, trying to make the case that, and we don't do it. This is one of the favorites of anti-vaxxers and COVID minimizers and deniers, you know, saying like, oh, okay, now do car accidents if you're going to try to fix this COVID thing. is closer to 100 daily car accident deaths because you know the government came in and came into your car and told you you had to wear a seatbelt it's not my right
Starting point is 00:15:57 so yeah and you know Tony Robbins happy to ignore the 2000 people who've died from COVID every day over the past two weeks. Yeah, just don't throw numbers around because quoting statistics sounds smart until you look at them and you're like, oh, this isn't even a real comparison or point that you're making. Just misinformation. And finally, Matt matt gates is trending yeah um it's it's getting it's getting apparently it's starting to get hot for him um it's getting real real hot and again we say this
Starting point is 00:16:36 all the time when there's people who have done crimes but when they're white and hold office like somehow they got the star from mario that will never you know allow them to enter a courtroom but in this instance for the charges he's facing apparently um there's a daily beast article that was saying like you know well the journalist who wrote it up said i spoke with legal experts and people familiar with the case they said it appears gates has been preparing for a quote scorched earth trial um so i think he's got the same lawyer as like weinstein and or no jeffrey epstein and keith reniere and like el chapo and you know all all those guys were famously got off there they they were found innocent um so okay up in a good place um yeah oh okay do that then the the fact that the republican
Starting point is 00:17:31 party kind of abandoned this guy or at least the establishment republicans kind of were like oh this guy seems like he's toxic uh months ago and we still he's still like out there uh is pretty pretty wild i want to see this guy let off in handcuffs but you know i mean look he's got epstein's lawyer right and so i don't know what that means but it sounds like someone who will take your money and do their best to pretend you're not guilty yeah as bill gates would say he's dead uh yeah right what's the lesson here well he's dead so i wasn't supposed to be identifying as jeffrey epstein in this case oh my bad uh oh anybody missed that yikes yeah right where whose perspective was that from william yeah what so what was the lesson that you learned from that?
Starting point is 00:18:26 Well, he's dead. So, you know, got to do a better job keeping these things secret. Oh, I mean, sorry. Bill Gates, killing it. All right. Those are the things that are trending here on this Monday afternoon. We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
