Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, Internet, and welcome to this edition of no trender first i said thirst why not fuck it no trender thirst it is november we're here we made it through october uh which also means it's native american heritage month let's give the land back y'all can we can we
Starting point is 00:02:20 address one of the original sins of this country i'm'm willing to wait in line. You know, I know they're great. Yep, yep, yep, yep. Y'all go ahead. Y'all go ahead. Do that first, please. So we can have some kind of reckoning in this country. I am Miles and I am joined by Becca, super producer. Becca, what's up, Becca?
Starting point is 00:02:36 Hello. I'm good. How are you? I'm good. How was the, did you do anything for Halloween? Yeah, I did a pretty wholesome well, okay. On Friday, I went out with my friends. That was not wholesome.
Starting point is 00:02:50 But I dressed as a disco ball which was a $6 costume and that was great because I already had a silver sequined jumpsuit and then I found these disco ball earrings at Party City. So that was lit.
Starting point is 00:03:08 And then I needed to recover for two whole days. So on Sunday, I went to a child's Halloween birthday party. That was really cute. And then on Monday, actual Halloween, my partner and I dressed as Dom Toretto and Letty Ortiz from Fast and Furious and did a whole photo shoot around his really nice Jeep Cherokee and went to
Starting point is 00:03:31 there's this thing called the Pumpkin Blaze in upstate New York it's apparently very famous it's like 40,000 pumpkins lit up and carved it was actually very cool. Like highly recommend.
Starting point is 00:03:46 It was like a really fun, wholesome thing to do. We like drove up. And then you go through the maze and they have like all these different pumpkin setups. Like some of them are like pumpkins that people have carved for like a pumpkin contest. Right. They have these like insane archways. They have all these different scenes. They had like a museum of pumpkin art instead of museum of modern art and they did like the mona lisa
Starting point is 00:04:09 and like um you know andy warhol and then they did like a few statues like famous statues of the moma and then they did like um these scenes of new york where they like carved like city subways all on pumpkins like like. Like giant pumpkin displays. It was very, very cool. I'm going to post some pictures on my social in a bit. But it was so much fun. And so we dressed up to go to this. And then I had dinner at a diner and then came home.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And it was fun. Nice. I watched some spooky shit. Then I watched the Halloween episode of Sister, Sister. Then I watched the Halloween episode of Sister Sister. Then I watched the Halloween episode of Living Single. Then I watched the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, season two, episode three, where the teenagers come in no costumes and ask for candy. And then they get into an argument about that. So I had some Halloween programming, but there were no trick or treaters by me.
Starting point is 00:05:04 So it was a little it was quiet for sure. Anyway, let's tell everybody what's trending. Really terrible news. Migo star Takeoff was killed last night, dead at the age of 28. From the reporting that is out, it took place at a bowling alley in Houston and may have had something to do with a dice game. That's about it. I mean, there's plenty of unconfirmed information flying around,
Starting point is 00:05:30 but that's really, I mean, I don't know. I honestly, you always think like the rap is past like all the, I don't know, not that it's past the violence, but like I remember being in like junior high and I was like, right, East Coast east coast west coast beef but now there's a lot of people
Starting point is 00:05:48 getting killed for nothing yeah it's really sad i was really taken aback as someone from houston and also you know amigos fan and someone who's around the same age like that is really crazy i think he is so young you know that is yeah it just it's gone like that over nothing you know yeah and he was just doing an interview where people were giving him you know his his plaudits for being like man this new album like you you've hit a new level and he's like he you know really sort of grim foreshadowing he said yeah i want to get these roses now before you know i'm not here to get them uh and then this happens so it's man it's just really tragic and uh his like his whole like staccato rap over time i was like okay this is like what he does and i'm like man this is he's
Starting point is 00:06:35 real like this is unique to him and he's really good at it so yeah just and as someone who notably has a pretty low social like profile so it's kind of just interesting that things like this are happening. Yeah. Okay. Lindsey Graham is trending because if you remember first, Clarence Thomas was like, hey, man, you don't got to testify. I'll put a temporary hold on this. And then until the Supreme Court can actually get a look at it. Well, they did.
Starting point is 00:07:02 And they said, no, sorry, Lindsey. You got to go. You need to go speak to somebody down in Fulton County, Georgia, because they're really interested in your phone calls to people like Brad Raffensperger and being like, you know, putting pressure on to change maybe votes. I don't know. That's what they want to ask you about, Lindsay. And now he's clearly like at this point you can't do shit after the supreme court
Starting point is 00:07:26 as far as i know i mean i know there's probably other legal systems that operate for you know people like him but as far as most people's logic goes or knowledge of our legal system that's it so it sounds like he will have to uh speak to prosecutors in november um so we'll see what happens there the whole time he was trying to say, like, I'm exempt because of this debate clause where I can't be asked about legislative activity or whatever. And they're like, yeah, well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:07:55 The prosecutors did. They knew you were going to say that. And they really pared these questions down to make sure they're not asking anything about legislation. If anything, it sounds like you were coordinating with the White House to, you know, get involved in some fuckery allegedly allegedly yeah so a bit a little bit of a bright spot but then like you take that with the news obviously yesterday where they're i mean as it
Starting point is 00:08:16 stands now we haven't heard but it sounds like they're also going to gut affirmative action so you lose some and then you lose some pretty much is what it sounds like uh in america it's really kind of fucking me up uh next thing is thanksgiving that's trending already wow i think people are just like fuck it it's november i mean i get it like if you're thinking in terms of like how a classroom i a lot of the thinking i have around decorations comes from me being in elementary school and like the times in which the room would flip over from the aesthetic like the back to school to spooky pumpkins then problematic depictions of native american you know cartoon characters and shit or whatever
Starting point is 00:08:56 and then you start seeing the christmas stuff so yeah i'm i don't know i'm just i'm just uh i mean super producer brian said uh he heard Christmas music in Sears yesterday, which I didn't know Sears still existed. But I also was out this morning and I went to a mall in the area and they already have like Christmas garland up. I went to a couple places where they were absolutely playing Christmas music. That's what I'm talking about. Fuck Thanksgiving. Yeah, honestly. I mean, look, you know, celebrate however you want to.
Starting point is 00:09:31 But honestly, and I like that they're doing that because it's not about the country. It's about Christ, you know, his birth that we will celebrate by buying shit until this thing turns into a polluted marble in space. I was just impressed because I was pretty sure I was at that same mall, like, I don't know, Friday, buying stuff for my Halloween costume. Fully spooky. And then November 1st, already Christmas garland, already giant Christmas wreath. Insane. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:02 I mean, look, get in where you fit in. If you're a big thanksgiving person good for you i'm fine with going to christmas i just like the i think it's like the mentality that is implied by the holidays which i just think of being a kid where you don't have to go to school and then like your parents are like just like i don't know man just do whatever the fuck you want so you gotta go back to school i'm like, I will lay down and watch TV all day because these references will be worth something in 20 some years. All right, let's take a quick break and we'll be back to talk about some other trends after this.
Starting point is 00:10:38 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline,
Starting point is 00:11:44 a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job
Starting point is 00:12:15 and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it, like, you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports where we live at the intersection of sports and culture up first I explore the making of a rivalry Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese I know I'll go down in history people are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game every great player needs a foil I ain't really near them boys I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained?
Starting point is 00:13:24 This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that.
Starting point is 00:13:48 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this?
Starting point is 00:14:19 We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing they're just dreams dream sequence is a new horror thriller from blumhouse television iheart radio and realm listen to dream sequence or the holidays uh we talked a little bit about some celebrity costumes and things that were going on kim kardashian overdressing for tracy ellis's birthday etc but billy eilish also is getting a lot of attention, negative, positive. From her perspective, her and her new boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford, who is 31.
Starting point is 00:15:11 She's 20. They said that they she dressed as like a baby in a diaper. Right. And like a bonnet and like very like Bo Peepi, like baby, like wide eye makeup. And he dressed like Johnny Knoxville or one of the jackass dudes trying to look like an old man. Like just aggressive old man gear. And it was, I guess, I guess they wanted to, you know, I guess clap back at the haters. Yeah, it's not being received well on the internet. It's not being received well on TikTok, especially.
Starting point is 00:15:44 I feel like everyone has a take right now on the talk. Sure, sure, sure. I definitely think, you know, we were talking about this off air that she is someone who has been famous for now quite a long time. Like, in comparison to her lifespan and her, you know, from a young, young age to now. And she writes very complex music. She probably considers herself a lot older than, you know, she is. Certainly emotionally mature than, yeah. She's experienced things that most, you know, people her age haven't.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Of course, being, you know, so famous and so popular as an artist. But at the end of the day, like one day, she's going to look back and feel her age and realize like how young she really was at 20 and how you know maybe perverted this man was for dating her as a 31 year old and you know there have been comments that she was a fan of his and that she used to go to his concerts so it is just a lot. You know, it is. I hope that she can look back at this and maybe reflect on this wasn't a great idea. Like the outfits and the relationship.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Yeah, it's because they met like he met her when she was like he's friends with her brother. Yeah, right. He met her when she was... He's friends with her brother. Yeah. They met when she was under the age of 18. Like 15 or something. And she definitely has been to concerts when she was 14 and stuff as a fan. So it's just weird. Yeah, I mean... It's a big conversation happening right now. I think with Demi Lovato's song coming out and All Too Well, Taylor's version, 10 Minutes.
Starting point is 00:17:27 and like you know all too well taylor's version 10 minutes uh i think it is becoming more of a common conversation out in the open especially after me too how predatory these age gap relationships are in hollywood you know i think for a long time we swept under the rug we just were like oh well it's different like they're famous and we're not and they experience life differently than we do but like no but on paper it's like no you're 31 and she's 20 yeah it's like at the end of the day she's still a kid and that's like really yucky and i remember when i was like at 20 and now i'm not even 31 yet but i can't imagine dating a 20 year old at this age that i am at which is 27 so you know and i also had an age gap relationship when i was young and that was really toxic so i think more people could stand to
Starting point is 00:18:11 be better yeah or you know i mean it's just interesting like you said uh i'm sure she's looking at her life one way and i think for people with the hindsight of like going through their early 20s thinking my god i thought i fucking thought i was fanos and shit like i was like you can't tell me shit right now i fucking have it all figured out and then i look back i'm like oh you was you was but a broken little boy who was projecting this shit because you were you was scared young man you didn't really know much um but hey hindsight is 2020 um and that's also billy eilish's age so jesse rutherford interesting look uh but yeah this is again getting trending right now a lot of people i mean i don't see many people defending this really it feels like most people are like good
Starting point is 00:19:04 genuinely upset especially because i guess her whole i'm not like the biggest billy eilish a lot of people I mean I don't see many people defending this really it feels like most people are like this is wild bro especially because I guess her whole I'm not like the biggest Billie Eilish fan by any means I think she's very talented just like not my cup
Starting point is 00:19:12 of tea of music sure she her last album was all about her relationship fucking her up with an older man so people are just like
Starting point is 00:19:22 honey did you not learn the lesson did you not like listen to your own album and now now you're, you know, recreating history, like, and this age gap is even bigger than I think the person that album was about. So it is interesting. I don't know if she's like, well, I'm older now, so it's different, but yeah, whatever. Look, I'm just a geriatric millennial trying to be a parent from the sidelines you know forgive me um twitter blue is trending oh no because i don't know if you saw that exchange
Starting point is 00:19:52 where stephen king on twitter was like i'm not paying 20 bucks a month for a fucking blue check mark fuck out of here what the fuck is elon musk thinking and then he came in he's like hey man work with me here how's eight bucks know, because we got to pay our bills some way. And people were like, oh, my goodness, this guy fucking doesn't. Is he truly this out of his depth? And other people like this is prime, you know, Elon trolling. Either way, if you add up what 20 bucks a month would do for all of the people with blue check marks, they said the math only comes out to around like $15 million a year. And when you consider like the billions of dollars
Starting point is 00:20:29 that they have to cover as a company, you're like, I don't know how the fuck. Okay, that's one dimension of it. But I think the biggest thing with Elon Musk and Twitter now is that he, I think it appears to be that his whole idea around it, and I'm sure as much as he said, is to not be dependent on advertisers which will allow the rampant hate speech to fucking flow because who
Starting point is 00:20:51 who gonna check you boo if there's no ad money throwing like flowing through the platform and that's the idea is like well if it can just be a self-propelled hate missile then uh so be it but now he said uh this is a tweet he just put out and i hate that we have to talk about this but it's twitter and it's a vitally important social media platform i said twitter's current lords and peasants system for who has or doesn't have a blue check mark is bullshit power to the people blue for eight dollars a month first of all i don't think this shows you how he looks at blue check marks too i mean flippantly all you know i'll fucking give people shit when they're verified i'm like oh you know
Starting point is 00:21:30 i'm just i'm nope i don't have a blue check but the the reason you have that is to be able to trust people when they're saying things as like journalists or other people of note not to be like i wish i could afford that or that it's like not a fake account. This is like a real, this is actually Kim Kardashian, whatever. Exactly. So he's saying, now that I have $8 a month and just like, it'll be half as many. It's just, it smacks of like, hey, I know y'all saw that tweet, but we're figuring it out. And look, they're going to get fired in six days if they don't figure it out either. You heard that part too, right?
Starting point is 00:22:04 And from what i understand like some of the ad agencies are beginning to grumble about talking to their big clients and being like i don't know if you really want to be sending money that way yeah we shall see and then finally pharrell skateboard p is trending because he is collaborating with bts and rm i said who is hashtag RM, Becca? I said, I know BTS. I know who the fuck BTS is, but I didn't know who RM was. I'm like, is this short for something?
Starting point is 00:22:31 His name is Rap Monster. Formerly Rap Monster. And to be fair, I did not know either. I am like you, colloquially understand BTS and listen to a few of their hits and yeah enjoy them as a korean pop group of the sense of like oh it's not american like this is fun like right i want to be more diverse in my music taste for sure but i did not know who rm was yeah oh damn we almost have the same birthday all right kim namjoon uh But also, I guess RM, Rap Monster, going to have his own solo album.
Starting point is 00:23:07 And then Pharrell is also going to be producing on there. And again, you say less to this geriatric millennial because I'm like, Pharrell? What is he doing? BTS? Oh, I'll look that up. Okay. So I'm sure there'll be some good music on the way.
Starting point is 00:23:24 I mean, I'm excited. That's some decent production. If Pharrell's named, I'm like, I'm sure there'll be some good music on the way. I hope. I mean, I'm excited. That's some decent production. If Pharrell's named, I'm like, I'm going to listen to that. I'll listen for a second. Yes. Maybe because he was a celebrity that I kind of look like in high school. And I was like, man, he Blasian? No.
Starting point is 00:23:39 Hey, I'll still fuck it. I'll take that. He does look kind of Blasian now that you said it. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Of course. That's what all the Blasians were thinking. Anyway, thanks so much, everybody, for joining us today. Becca, thank you so much for joining me today on the trending episode.
Starting point is 00:23:57 We will catch y'all tomorrow with a whole new episode. And yeah, remember, y'all, please take care of each other and take care of yourselves. Like, be kind to yourself, too. I said that a couple of weeks ago, but like, honestly, being kind to yourself, isn't more just like saying I will be kind to myself, you know, be kind to yourself. Think about how you can not, you know, kick yourself down. Cause guess what? I bet the most wild monologues you have are in your head. And they're probably not the ones that are the most healthy for you to look at yourself and say, hey, I'm being kind to myself. I love myself.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Anyway, that was my motivational minute. Also, get the vaccine. Wear a mask because you see the waves. They're coming back. And don't do nothing about any kind of oppressive nonsense either. You know, be a good person out there. Until next time, we'll talk to you then. Bye. Bye.
Starting point is 00:24:41 We'll talk to you then. Bye. Bye. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in people who do, like negotiation expert Maury Tahiripour. If you start thinking about negotiations as just a conversation, then I think it sort of eases us a little bit.
