That's a soccer-specific one I added at the end that I was better than Tony. Anyway, that's an AKA from Matt Ramey. Shout-outs to you, my man, because I just wanted to sing, and you let me flex my vocal cords.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Yeah, you kind of look ridiculous singing next to my golden pipes, but that was for sure. Again, no auto-tune there. That was my actual voice. Yeah, mine was auto-tuned. Yes. Please take that into consideration when making your judgment. And we are thrilled to be joined in our third seat by Ify Wadaway.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Hey, hi. This is Ify Bottoms. This is iffy shoes that's that's mine i like it everyone was singing also you know i really want to commend you a lot of people don't know because this is a podcast and you cannot see anything uh iffy is in some very elegant garb oh yeah can you tell us about your outfit your body i might if i'm gonna describe it on a level of one to wakanda uh it's a wakanda yeah you know i got i got this uh like bullhorn necklace you gotta fucking do it got got like a very drape-ish like basically if you've seen black panther uh killmonger's kind of like what would you call this? Like a cloak? Yeah, yeah. Like that, but like in a green. Yeah, a robe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Got a green robe. Like an army green robe. No shirt. No shirt underneath. No shirt. Just laying open. And, you know, just some like big joggers. Was that a vibranium ring you got?
Starting point is 00:04:17 Yeah, yeah. Vibranium wedding ring. Pulling it down. Guys, so please, I mean, check my Instagram story and Ify's as well. And you'll get those handles later on the show because the stories are lit. I mean, you're still going to be rocking this for our picture, right? Oh, yeah, 100%. You better.
Starting point is 00:04:31 You better have this shit open. Especially if you're flexing on Twitter like that with your Wakanda body. Was that recently? Yeah, that was yesterday. I remember saying, I'm like, well, I don't have a Wakanda body. Oh, my gosh. Like, I've been, my gym membership, like membership has been clocking in since seeing Michael B. I was like, man.
Starting point is 00:04:48 It's funny because my goals shifted. Last year, I wanted that Trevante body from Moonlight. Right. Now it's like, nah, I need that Michael B. Now you need that Killmonger B. Jack, yeah. Yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:05:01 If you want something from your search history that is revealing about who you are? Kaiju pluro uh because my buddy's doing this like death jaguar toy kickstarter and i was doing like hey you guys like kaijus and i was like i feel like kaijus isn't how you would say it so i looked up kaiju pluro and it's just kaiju multiple kaiju yeah cool because there's no like in japanese yeah kaiju just means the big ass monster yeah that's that's super close to the definition i was like yeah it's a giant great monster yeah yeah yeah y'all fuck with kaiju yeah y'all fuck with kaiju i definitely fuck with kaiju yeah so is this pacific rim specific or just toys that he like godzilla is kaiju right you know and he's making Godzilla toys. Well, he's just making a specific – so there was this character called Death Jaguar, which was this robot. Because I guess back in the day, Godzilla had a contest where people can submit a new kaiju for Godzilla to fight.
Starting point is 00:05:56 And this kid made this robot called Death Jaguar, and it was – a scientist scientist made it and someone stole it and made him evil and now he's like good. He's really cool looking. Is it like just a big ass jaguar? No, he's like a robot face. It's almost like an Ultraman looking joint.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Nice. And it's so Yeah, I'm trying to look and I can't find it but i'm gonna believe you look up uh death jaguar kaiju yeah try that oh okay yeah what's something that's underrated oh man underrated i think i'm gonna go with just to stay topical with uh you know i felt like there was a lot of um meme reaction meme hate i feel like i feel like yeah i feel like that's underrated because i've been in a lot of like rooms with comics who like hate the internet culture of jokes and i i've been the internet baby for a while like i was like before i was this sounds
Starting point is 00:06:56 so dumb but i was using memes before they were cool i was in i was i was sifting through b going through all the racist bs to get my hot spicy memes. You know, back when they were just inspirational photos. Right. And I think people like look at it like, oh, it's dumb. But it's like I finally was able to look at it and be like, oh, it's just inside jokes. And that's why they're so popular is because because people are like, oh, I get this. It's just like a callback that you do in stand-up also
Starting point is 00:07:25 i feel like um there's like when you go through twitter moments you see so many of them like you don't do numbers until you're in twitter moments like they're popular not before that but because they're because i had a tweet going to twitter moments and i think i had maybe like seven to ten retweets and then it it went in twitter moments i was feeling i was feeling good you couldn't tell me nothing for a few hours. I was like, I got a tweet doing numbers. With a tooth necklace on. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Doing good. But it's just – and I think the key as like comedy people is instead of rejecting that and being like, that's a weird thing. I don't think it's funny. It's finding how to like even make it better because you're the comedy guy. Right. We're funnier. Right. Well, we just speak differently millennials and you know and a picture is worth a thousand words which is why memes work so well because it can sum up so much shit in a photo oh yeah yeah it's creating new
Starting point is 00:08:16 vocabulary basically yeah without using words so less i don't know anyway cool yeah mad cool what's something that's overrated? Overrated is, and I feel like I'm bringing this back. I've said it before, but I want to reiterate it now, is shitting on movies. It was like one of the worst Black Panther takes I've seen by a – I don't even want to give this guy any air. But it proves my point in saying his name. His YouTube is Your Movie Sucks. any air but like it proves my point in saying his name like his youtube is your movie sucks and it's like that that lets you know like that's his thing is he's like i'm a fun i'm gonna talk
Starting point is 00:08:52 about how sucky movies like that's easy like i can go to a five-year-old and he can tell me why something sucks he can tell me he that's easy what i think what would be impressive is breaking down why a movie's bad, like using actual points and ways that it, things that it was successful at and how it could be better because that takes actual knowledge. Just shitting on a movie is so easy, but like so many YouTube quote unquote reviewers do that and like pat themselves on the back as if they look smart. It's the age old trick of being like, if I shit on something,
Starting point is 00:09:25 then I seem smart, but it's not true. It's easy to say, oh, this didn't have the thing I liked. So it is bullshit. Which is a cast full of white people. Stellar analysis. Yeah, one of the movies that has been shit on the most
Starting point is 00:09:41 here on the Daily Zeitgeist is Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, which is up for some Best Picture Oscars this year. And there was a take by Wesley Morris that I talked about a couple weeks ago on his podcast where they talked about how it wasn't successful and it wasn't a realistic depiction of america but then they used that critique to then like jump off into this really interesting conversation about sort of that's how american pop culture like an american culture just exists in this sort of weird hyper reality nether region uh and yeah even shitty, like one of my favorite movies to talk about is Rocky IV. And that is not like objectively a great movie, but it's fucking like a really interesting movie for a lot of reasons. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I love that take. That's one of my favorite. Yeah, that sounds super interesting. All right. We are trying to take a sample of what people are thinking and talking about right now. And the way we like to open that conversation up is by asking our guests, what is a myth? What's something that people believe to be true that is not? The myth is if you dislike Black Panther, you're a racist.
Starting point is 00:10:55 I feel like I've been seeing this and I feel like it's such a weird. And that goes back to that guy I was talking about, because that's been what's been driving a lot of these like ed lords of being like, oh, people are saying if you don't like this, no one's saying that. It's like a few fringe, you know, takes that no one's taking seriously that it's easier for you to buck against that. And to be honest, it's like, no, no, we don't care. Like like black people would have been totally fine if all white people were like, ugh, we didn't like – we expected that. Black people went into Black Panther expecting white people to hate it because we knew it was made for us, and that's the beauty of it. It's like, no, Ryan Coogler wasn't trying to make – I mean, he was trying to make a good movie that, you know, was – that everyone liked, but he wasn't trying to make it for you. Like, there are lines in there.
Starting point is 00:11:45 That's why, like, one take that I heard from someone who was like a non-black person of color they were like you know some of the lines seemed forced and it's like that's a take of someone who who it just wasn't for because they were forced i'm sure it was all the like the grace jones one well well no no that was a solid joke i think it was was lines like, where it's like, all people come from here, so aren't Wakandans all your people? Like, it's like, yeah, I feel like if you're not black, you don't realize the power of like, in a Disney movie, we are like, letting it be known that yes, people come from Africa. This is a scientific fact that is often forgotten or ignored or used Christianity to try and pretend like it doesn't exist. ignored or used Christianity to try and pretend like it doesn't exist. And, or like lines like, you know, sorry if you haven't seen it, I'm not going to say the plot points. I'm just going to say the lines, which don't give any plot points a lot, but it's like, you know, or the line, bury me in the ocean because like my ancestors knew that death
Starting point is 00:12:40 was better than bondage. Like that. I feel like, like some dork, like who is not black is like, oh, that just – That's not how people talk. And it's like, no, that's – yeah. Through my lens of not knowing anything about oppression, that seems absurd. Right. Yeah, so it's so funny.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And even the secondary sub-myth to this is that Black Panther isn't a big deal. It's like – It's a big deal. It's so many neck-beardy white guys who are like, it's not a big deal. It's like it's so many like neck bearded white guys who are like, it's not a big deal. Like, how would you even know? How would you begin to understand what's a big deal for black people when you're not black? Like, that's the fun. That's the hubris of white men.
Starting point is 00:13:15 That's going to be a lot of my thesis this year is the hubris of white men. And I was talking about this with Brody, and he was saying it's just because like everything they've been taught is that they have a universal point of view that they have that you as a white dude and in in this philosophy class that you've taken has taught you that like you've been able to make this unbiased universal point of view but it's it's not you don't have the experiences to make an educated decision you do not have the experiences around you probably don't even have enough black friends to be able to be like oh this is important to black people and it's more than because there's a lot of black people in the movie it's it's it's because of the themes within it and like what it really means and signaling even a shift in how films are made and you know coogler getting the
Starting point is 00:14:01 largest budget for an african-amer yeah. And then paying back tenfold. Oh, my gosh. Like, yo, the floodgates are about to open because Hollywood responds to money. Yeah. And there you go, Henny. Yeah. There's your fucking profits. Also, I have a question for you because you are Nigerian.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Yeah. And I was talking yesterday about how, like, Wakanda definitely, I think what some people don't understand is, like, Wakanda is this sort of fantasy world because the idea of Africa is a little nebulous for African-Americans. So Africa is less abstract to you because you are African-American in like the most literal sense. Did that change how – I mean like you're saying, people take from it what they will, but I'm just curious for you what that was like. Well, I feel like there's like two points that could be made with what you just asked. I feel like there's one point in the first thing you said where Africa's kind of nebulous to African Americans. A lot of
Starting point is 00:14:49 Africans like us, it took me a while to realize how kind of blessed I was to be able to trace back my roots on one side of my family. A lot of African Americans just can't. Especially African Americans in white spaces get to hear their white friends be like, oh, you know, my family comes from the Netherland.
Starting point is 00:15:08 They were on the Mayflower. Yeah, like they get to trace it back pretty far, and black people don't get that. So I feel like that's why it's – that's another level to why it's important because it's like this fictional place, yes, it's fictional, but it's somewhere we can be like, yeah, this is a place. You can't ancestry.com your way back to Africa. Yeah. And so I feel like a lot of Africans, a lot of shithead Africans have been like, oh, why don't you learn about your actual roots? And I feel like that comes from a place of just true ignorance. Like when I was in my 20s, I kind of had this like – that same kind of feeling where – and it's really just being selfish, just making it about you.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Where it's like, well, you want to care about Africa, care about me, care about where I'm from. And I think to really approach your question for me, I'm my dad's Nigerian. My mom's from Louisiana. So like I'm a half African killmonger. Same thing. So the way I took that movie was kind of approaching it from like that kind of psyche of how it is and trying to fit in with your community even though you are seen as an other because you are half. And I spoke to my friend Opie who both his parents are Nigerian and he saw another thing. And I definitely want to give Opie – he's a Nigerian comic. I'm going to take what he said because I think it's a good point. He was saying he felt the vibranium was an allegory for culture, how he feels like Africans from Africa, you know, we didn't have resources to give to black people, but we didn't extend our hand and give them the culture.
Starting point is 00:16:39 We kind of viewed African-Americans as the other, and you see it in the way that some Africans do associate with black people. And you like he was talking about like the and I didn't even know this, mostly because my dad married an American. But Nigerians have a word called Akata, which is like a derogatory term for African-Americans. Right. Like that's because they're looking at them as they're wasting the opportunity and completely ignoring the systematic oppression and everything else that came. They see us as lazy.
Starting point is 00:17:09 And it's also part of the kind of model minority treatment that a lot of Africans get because a lot of Africans come out here. They get to go to like Ivy League schools. And that's kind of been a big thing where like colleges are disproportionately accepting African Africans but not African Americans. And it's just that model minority kind of cyclical thing that's going on that we also have to address. Guys, see, Black Panther is much more nuanced. I don't know how many people walked into that movie and started having these conversations after the fact. But yeah, glad to get your perspective on that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:47 And just to your point, Ryan Coogler released a letter this morning saying, you know, just expressing gratitude for everybody who saw it. But saying, you know, never in a million years did we imagine that all these people would come out and see a movie about a fictional country on the continent of Africa made up of a cast of people of African descent. But yeah, the response has been impressive. And just a lot of the conversations that I feel like are springing up around it, like the one you guys just had, have been really more interesting than the conversations that spring up around a lot of movies. Well, it just forces a little bit of reflection of reflection for sure especially when you watch a movie like yeah
Starting point is 00:18:27 the only conversations you're having after batman versus superman is like man how crazy would it be if our moms had the same name like you know it's like nah man yeah i'm out here like doing this shit like yeah it's funny like when i went to ghana uh my dad who's black they call him obruni which in ghanaian that's just means white But again, that sort of goes back to the perception of African-Americans from Africans, and they thought I was Arab. So they kept insisting I was Arab. But again, yeah, it's very interesting that there are so many levels of perception of blackness and things like that. So also, yeah, guys, before you come in with your hot take, just realize this is a very nuanced topic. It's not just that it's a black movie and everyone's open arms.
Starting point is 00:19:08 It's signaling many other things to many different people. All right. Let's get into other stories that are going on right now. Is it about Wakanda? This one is not about Wakanda explicitly. Oh, good, good. Like all stories, it is in the background in a way about Wakanda. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:26 The Reverend Billy Graham has passed away. He brought Christianity to the masses in America or like brought it back after the Scopes monkey trial and, you know, the Christian church taking a giant L in the public forum on that one. He sort of brought it back and was like, it's OK to be Christian. You know, these values are good things. And he really focused on the better parts of, you know, that ethos. There is a thing that I wasn't fully aware of. A tape that was released in 2002 that is pretty shocking. So he had a conversation with Nixon and somebody was there for it, had said he said all these anti-Semitic things. And Billy Graham had always just said, no, I didn't. And people were like, OK, well, he wouldn't lie. He is basically a modern Jesus.
Starting point is 00:20:26 And then in 2002, a tape came out because Nixon recorded fucking everything. And this is what Billy Graham said. He said they're the ones. So he was speaking about Jewish people in America. He said they're the ones putting out the pornographic stuff. The Jewish stranglehold has got to be broken or the country's going down the drain. I go and I keep friends with Mr. Rosenthal at the New York Times and people of that sort. That was the publisher, I think, of the New York Times at the time. And people of that sort, you know, and all.
Starting point is 00:21:05 I mean, not all the Jews, but a lot of the Jews are great friends of mine. They swarm around me and are friendly to me because they know that I'm friendly with Israel, but they don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country, and I have no power, no way to handle them, but I would stand up if under proper circumstances. So it's like it is – it's a tough one to overcome because it's him being like, and I would never tell them this in public. That's usually like the smoking gun quote because usually they'll say the top part and they won't be like, but what they don't know is.
Starting point is 00:21:41 It's usually the line that you're always like, damn, if I just had that. And he's saying, what they don't know is. the line that you're always like damn if i just had that right and he's saying what they don't know is given the right circumstances i would wow well look he was the like spiritual advisor for many presidents i think what he was the closest with nixon but had been invited to the white house from pretty much every president up until obama even obama yeah because he was seen as like this sort of at least the good side of what like I guess evangelism. I don't know. Was he was he evangelical? I believe so. Yeah. Yeah. That when it was still sort of good natured and then perversion began of the religious right. And I think I know like Billy Graham had people are always sharing quotes like only good quotes about him saying like, I think if the Christianity was married with social conservative, that would be the end or something like that where people are like, see, he was a good guy, which I'm sure he had great ideas. I'm not particularly familiar. I just remember that specific thing because when you're talking about Billy Graham, like the weird stuff he said about Jewish people. Oh, man. Yeah, look.
Starting point is 00:22:35 He was a big figure in the United States. Yeah, but one thing I will say is Nixon is the originator of keeping all the receipts. I feel like that's been – what's weird is that Trumpians have figured of keeping all the receipts. I feel like, you know, that's been – what's weird is that Trumpians have figured out a way around receipts by just denying it. Like once they figured out that their base will just take that, like I feel – because I feel like the first time it was done, they were like, no.
Starting point is 00:23:00 And then when their base was like, well, he said no, he's like, oh, thank God, these people are idiots. You know, totally. There was there was an article in Jewish Week titled How Jews Should Think About Reverend Graham's Legacy. And I think it's as good a testament to, you know, his message or what he preached, because, you know, they mention his quotes. But then they say, you know, we his quotes but then they say you know we would have liked for him not to have said that uh but but that should not blind us to his constructive words which benefited all religions including our own many of his statements and actions were in sync both with many enlightened jews own attitudes to religion and to the role
Starting point is 00:23:42 that religion should play in the town square and he specifically opposed like there was a big uh southern baptist push to convert jews and muslims in uh the 90s and he was like no like that's fucking awful let's let's not do that uh so yeah he really came out in surprising ways, like for some some progressive values that we don't currently associate with Southern Baptist Christians. And it's just that, you know, this one quote that is pretty problematic. So that's an interesting, complicated legacy. Yeah. We are going to take a quick break, and we will be right back. Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist
Starting point is 00:24:37 who, on October 16, 2017, was murdered. There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate. My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman Wikileaks. Daphne exposed the culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state.
Starting point is 00:25:04 And she paid the ultimate price. Listen to Crooks everywhere on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels,
Starting point is 00:26:39 into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? I mean, the Boone County rebels will stay the Boone County rebels with the image of the Biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. They lying. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch.
Starting point is 00:26:59 As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I just take all the other stuff out of segregation academies when civil rights uh said that we need to integrate public schools these charter schools were exempt from that bigger than a flag or mascot you have to be ready for serious backlash listen to rebel spirit on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And so there's been a lot of focus on Russian bots of late. 13 Russians and a couple of organizations were indicted by the Mueller investigation on Friday. And, you know, it has come out now that we know who to specifically look at and what organizations were specifically the Russian bots. It's come out that, yes, they were definitely trying to help the Trump campaign win the 2016 election, but they were kind of all over the place and they continue to be all over the place. Right up until the school shooting last week in Florida, you know, they were immediately targeting, you know, the idea that guns should be banned and, you know, just liberal talking points, which I don't know, is kind of a it's a weird thing to learn that, you know, they're targeting that some of the things that you believe.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Like I looked and I had not retweeted any Russian bots, which was good. But did you do the thing where you can find out if you did? Yeah. Well, I also don't really retweet people who I'm not familiar with. So remember that, fam. Right. But yeah, I mean, you can go, and there's a website that is like tracking basically the specific organizations to watch out for.
Starting point is 00:30:03 But I guess, I mean, that's the point of playing both sides is like if you get both fired up, then nobody will get along. And there you go. Chaos achieved. Right. And I think for a example of how best to respond, if you do find out that you have been retweeting a bot. This is a good example. CNN went and spoke to a woman who had led a pro Trump, you know, rally, I think, and, you know, Facebook group. And they were like, yeah, that Facebook group that you helped lead was actually put together by Russian bots. And her response was, I think, a lesson for us all. But did you realize that you guys were in communication electronically with Russians? Not me. Not me. I don't know. You were posting stuff on the Facebook.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Hillary Clinton was, and so was all her bandits. Some of the stuff that you, you were in charge of the Facebook, right? You were posting and reposting almost word for word the information that was coming out of this Internet Research Agency in St. Petersburg. You don't believe that? Nope. It's bullshit. Thank you. Well, there you go.
Starting point is 00:31:20 He had a pretty interesting strategy here by making sure that this interview takes place right in front of a car whose alarm can't stop going off. To really just, you know, I'm like, oh, what am I listening to? The alarm of this lady? I mean, it shows you, too, like that would look like an elderly retiree in Florida or whoever it was who had probably a lot of time living on Facebook and got caught up in, you know, just posting her hot takes and thinking that she was organizing for real patriots. And then when they're like, oh, are you doing – what group was it? Like very patriotic. She's like, yes, I'm very patriotic. He's like, no, that's the Russian Facebook group that you were talking to.
Starting point is 00:32:00 She's like, no, was basically – I don't go with the Russians. No, was basically like, I don't go with the Russians. I just I mean, like at this point, it just feels so hard to like, you know, I try and be like I'm trying to be chill, dude. The new 2018 is like me trying to be, you know, understanding, really, you know, not not talk as spicy. It's hard not to talk spicy when like you. It seems like all of trump supporters are this way where they're just like nope nope like i just need one trump supporter like look oh damn i'm a garbage dude i'm sorry my dude like you know i you know i fuck with garbage you see this red
Starting point is 00:32:36 hat you know make america great again i love garbage you know i'm trying to trash hat i'm trying to blast each other with muskets like i want ar-15s gone too like i want to get back to pumping looking like i'm jerking it before i blast somebody you know but in a way like i get this woman because that's some shit for someone to hit you with difficult off the street yeah hey do you know that you were unwittingly working with russians like no i wouldn't even be like fuck out of here yeah i wasn't you are yeah you're the fucking russian body but actually i mean to her credit she could have said you are are because CNN did cover a rally in the aftermath of Trump's inauguration. Like there was the giant million woman, you know, protest and demonstration across America. There was also a Russian organized specific protest that CNN andsnbc managed to find that one and cover it
Starting point is 00:33:27 and be like so what do you guys think right and they're like trump has weaponized this country like just very uh you could tell the talking points weren't like quite there they weren't things that like people actually believed but uh yeah so i mean cnn got caught up in that shit too so i don't know i don't know how good i feel about them going down and being like oh yeah well we found this idiot down in our front yard i don't think that was a good tactic to blow someone's mind is to roll up on them in front of their house and be like look at all this shit yeah i think it's about you know like it would be like a family intervention or something where you're like, mom, we actually do have information, grandma, that you were fucking with bots. But I mean I know so many people whose parents – they saw their parents sharing shit like this on Facebook and had to do that.
Starting point is 00:34:17 And that's a conversation that America has had to have with their parents or uncles, been like, look, I know that's what you want to believe, but it's just not true. So I don't know. And I'm not saying you're evil for doing this because you just thought this was news or whatever. You thought it was true. But we're just I'm just trying to show you how easy that shit is. Right.
Starting point is 00:34:38 Yeah. I feel like you're unwitting. It's because we're in like the third wave of Internet. The Internet is fascinating to me just because of like we're the last generation who will have lived before the internet. And I remember like very early on, my dad, my dad, like uncles would not fuck with it. They didn't care. It was like, that's a kid's thing. That's what you do.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Right. Like, and then I remember. Or your homework. Yeah. And then you had MySpace. They still weren't like, they were doing checking emails but like like the concept like i remember asking my dad to help me get something from ebay he was like what no like that's trash then like then myspace happened and i was like all right what y'all doing over there you know and then they kind of started infiltrating
Starting point is 00:35:19 myspace then we fled to facebook and then what y'all doing here? That's what's so funny is people don't remember. We fled to Facebook because we wanted to get away from our parents on MySpace. How come we're not in your top eight? Yeah, yeah. Our parents gentrified MySpace. We went to Facebook, which its big selling point was you could only sign up with a college email. Right, with a daddy D. I went to college just so I could do that.
Starting point is 00:35:42 I hacked that. Your boy didn't go to college just so I could do that. I hacked that. Your boy didn't go to college. I joined there, and then our parents came, and there was the first initial, oh, my gosh. But then people were like, actually, it's kind of cool to check in on grandma. Right. And so you're getting all these people, and I feel like that's when our parents kind of got involved. And our parents are like, now my dad is flipping laptops on eBay. And he's just straight up in it.
Starting point is 00:36:06 And I think now it's like our grandparents are kind of like, all right, well, I think so. And it's kind of now the first wave, which is us, the millennials who kind of already are well aware, like this is fake. This is fake. This isn't real. This isn't. And then the second wave, I think, isn't all the way there yet.
Starting point is 00:36:23 They don't have the skills to. And the third wave is they're in La La Land. They're like, everything that is real. The internet never lies. Right. That's the same like when I. Like how, if the internet lies, how can I see my grandson on the beach, on Facebook? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:36:34 You can't lie on the internet. Right. Yeah, that's a really good point. I mean, there were those stories in the aftermath of the election being like, we need to teach our children media literacy so they know what is true and what's not. It's like the children fucking know. Yeah, right. It's not.
Starting point is 00:36:48 It's your asses. We're the ones fucking with you half the time. I know the fucking tricks. I mean, I'm, yo, when Jurassic Park came out, I straight up told my grandmother it was real. And she believed it. My mom yelled at me because she was like, what did you say to grandma? This is all in Japanese. But she was like, she was old.
Starting point is 00:37:04 You know, she was born right before the Titanic sank. And I guess that's the same kind of thing is that sort of their guard isn't up like ours is. So it's easy to be like, well, it's on this thing, this screen, because they grew up in a world where people who had access to media were like ordained by being like actual journalists or giving facts. So it's like, well, it's the internet though. Right. They did not have that built-in sort of guard. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Yeah. I think to have a clear example of this, I learned my lesson that the internet doesn't lie. Back when the FBI came to my house, when I was trying to have cyber sex, when I was in, I'd say- Three years ago? I had to be like in eighth grade. And it wasn't until, because I tell that story
Starting point is 00:37:46 now, I told the story on my comedy album and now I'm at an age where I was like, oh there was never a girl like I was cyber sexing with FBI agents so were you lying and saying you were older? No, I was
Starting point is 00:38:02 they just said the language I was using was advanced for my age so you know your boy your boy was spicy with the keyboard so they thought you were posing as an eighth grader yeah your cyber stroke was that yeah that they thought he showed up but i'm like because like it was kind of like that kaiser soze moment where like i was like wait she disappeared after after a while never came back and then when the dude and i felt bad because the fbi dude i was like and he was like yeah we already like talked to the girl and i was like i was like yo no no they're
Starting point is 00:38:36 like yeah i was hold on agent smith i know but this iffy waterway man he's he's very advanced i just wonder if the agent misses me. Right. Like he just got in too deep. The agent's like, hey, man, can you talk to my wife for me? Yeah. What was some of that stuff you said to open up with? Where were we?
Starting point is 00:39:02 One of the things that the Russian bots, like I said, were spending on was the gun control debate. Oh, right, right. Which seems like a waste of resources because you don't need to sow discord. We already do. That court is going to diss itself. It is a hotly contested conversation, and we think it might get hotter tonight because there is a upcoming media event that seems almost too crazy to be true. But CNN is basically sponsoring this conversation between the Parkland students and community
Starting point is 00:39:32 and that crazy NRA woman from like the NRA videos who just like comes out hot. I think we have some. Yeah, Dana Loesch. Dana Loesch. Yeah. We have some. Yeah. Dana Loesch. Dana Loesch. Yeah. We are witnesses to the most ruthless attack on a president and the people who voted for him and the free system that allowed it to happen in American history. From the highest levels of government to their media, universities and billionaires, their hateful defiance of his legitimacy is an insult to each of us. But the ultimate insult is that they think we're so stupid that we'll let them get away
Starting point is 00:40:08 with it. These saboteurs slashing away with their leaks and sneers, their phony accusations and gagging sanctimony drive their daggers through the heart of our future, poisoning our belief that honest custody of our institutions will ever again be possible. So they can then build their utopia from the ashes of what they burned down. No, their fate will be failure and they will perish in the political flames of their own fires. We are the National Rifle Association of America and we are freedom's safest place. What the fuck does that have to do with guns
Starting point is 00:40:46 my dude like that shit it doesn't just yeah so they ideology with her videos they started politicizing just being like we're far right we're holding down the right and we just happen to have guns i'm like they're i like how they set it up where the left are all using knives they're like slashing at the heart of the thing so that because i i'm sure that's a fantasy of every nra member is that they get to face off with like some you know thug or like left wing you know the hippie npr bag full of kale right and with with a knife you with it yeah trying to trying to attack you with a knife so they can just, like, light you up. Yeah, so, again, this event is going to be – I don't even know how the fuck everyone agreed to this. This is bigger than McGregor-Mayweather, possibly.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Who knows? But, again, CNN got Dana Loesch to represent the NRA, who – let's not forget some of her past hot takes when she said banning the AR-15 would be like it's a war against women because it's the most popular gun with women. So that's a move to disarm women. That was her take on that. She called people who tried to curb mass shootings tragedy dry-humping whores. So I'm curious. When she's in that town hall, it's going to be her, Marco Rubio, Bill Nelson, the two senators from Florida, I think some state legislator, and the victims, family members, teachers, community of Parkland are going to have a town hall meeting.
Starting point is 00:42:08 I'm curious if she's going to come with that same energy when you're looking at a parent who's lost her child and is asking what the NRA is, where they stand in all of this. She'll either is going to say that crazy shit because they think that's going to work with their base. And that would just be a disaster, I think, for PR optics for the NRA. Yeah. Or she might hum and haw her way through it and just be like, oh, well, totally unprepared, or I don't know, just be really nice
Starting point is 00:42:34 and act like, oh, yes, we hear you, we hear you, and just kind of do that version. But I don't know. Based on how she talks in general, I can't really – it's hard for me to picture how this is going to end up. Yeah, unless they cancel it. she talks in general, I can't really, it's hard for me to picture how this is going to end up. Yeah. Unless they cancel it, I'm having a hard time picturing how she's going to not come off as just like the biggest villain in the history of news.
Starting point is 00:42:55 But, you know, maybe they have their talking points like that. One of the talking points they're bringing out right now that seems to be popular with the right wing is that the students who are coming out and, you know, promoting gun control are actually either crisis actors. So actors who travel to different mass shootings to pretend that they are victims so that they can, you know, put forward an agenda that these are the same people. They believe that Sandy Hook was all a false flag event perpetrated by the Obama administration
Starting point is 00:43:31 so that they could get our guns, which, man, that backfired for the Obama administration because gun control only got laxer. They didn't do a fucking thing. Man, they shouldn't have killed all those children for that purposes. It just shows you how far we went because I remember the Sandy Hook and it was like a weird fringe Alex Jones thing that even the right were like, chill, my dude. And to see it now, like see actual like, yeah, Fox would be like, no, yeah, they are.
Starting point is 00:43:58 And it's like, oh, my God, we they've taken over. Like these are the Alex Jones dudes. And really, it's going to take republicans to nut up and vote against republic that's the problem and i've said this for years is that democrats are willing to vote for what they think uh that they believe which is why like we're in this position to begin with a lot of people um and they get so mad when you bring this up but it's facts um a lot of people didn't like how bernie was treated and so they voted either green party or i felt like i felt like so many third party people were
Starting point is 00:44:31 like much louder this last election i felt like this was the time they thought they would do it because like everybody hates both options this is our moment to shine i feel like we've gotten a lot of split there that being said um, Republicans don't vote against Republicans. They just don't. Like no matter how much – I don't know how many times I've seen people be like, I don't really – but that's better than a Democrat. Like that's their motto is it's better than a Democrat. Right. And I feel like that's how they've taken over and we're seeing them double down in such a weird way.
Starting point is 00:45:07 So I think we've got to beat them at their own game. I think we challenge them to a fisticuffs. I'm going to put my bid in. I will catch Dinesh's fade. Catch me in these Florida streets. Let's go. streets i let's go yeah dinesh dazooza uh who if people aren't on twitter yesterday uh was just talking shit to the actual kids whose classmates were killed who were in the right school building uh so they yesterday uh this is our next story so we might as well talk about it uh they went to
Starting point is 00:45:42 tallahassee uh to Florida Town Hall, to – The Capitol Building. The Capitol Building because they put forward this legislation or got this legislation to be considered that would at least open a conversation on changing the gun control laws in Florida and making them a little bit more restrictive. And it got voted down by a wide-ass margin. 36 to 71. With the children just standing, watching, crying. Yeah, they could have just said, fuck you, literally, rather than doing that vote. But I guess that's one way to say fuck you to these kids. That story got reported, and Dinesh D'Souza, who, what's his background?
Starting point is 00:46:24 He's just like a- A like a felon I don't know yeah that's what I hear is a con he's got all kinds of he's a right wing media personality but he tweeted like adults one children zero and he was like this is the worst news since their parents told them that they had
Starting point is 00:46:39 to get a job so yeah yeah and then he had to walk that back he's like i was talking about the media i wasn't trying to make a joke i'm very sorry but you know what you already lost my man and what's crazy is right after that vote so he was he was laughing at their that the fact that the state legislature failed to take up this bill then immediately after what they did they passed a resolution declaring pornography a public health risk that was less than an hour after that so yo shout outs to all the uh the state legislators over there and my god and now florida stop being so salty
Starting point is 00:47:14 when we shit on you like stop being salty like look like if you want us to if you want you know these coastal elites to stop shitting on florida something about that. Until then, I'm going extra hard, mad, spicy, coming at you, Florida, talking about how you look like a weird dangling. Everyone in Florida's dangling looks like the state. But yeah, it's, I mean, look, yeah, if you want to do something, just vote and get these people
Starting point is 00:47:38 the fuck out. And again, we'll see tonight because you are going to see, you're going to see Marco Rubio, the senator there, and Bill Nelson, who's a Democrat. He might bill nelson might not even have to say anything he'll just be like oh shit i'm gonna let y'all just fuck this up yourself uh but we'll see so is he pro guns rights or bill nelson yeah bill nelson what's his deal i mean he's the democrat i believe i mean i'm sure he's somewhat friendly to the nRA because, I mean, let's be real, like you can't really get into mainstream politics unless you do. But I know that he has been vocal since the shooting that he's like, yo, assault weapons are for killing.
Starting point is 00:48:13 Do away with them. So I don't think he's going to go up there and like cape for the NRA in any way. I mean, at worst, he'll just probably do some kind of lukewarm proposal about gun control. But, I mean, he's for the most part got his head in the right place. Got it. Alright, so we will be watching that for you so that you don't have to, or check it out. Yeah, tonight, Wednesday. We'll share

Listen to the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:52:40 And we're back. And we're back. And for our last story today, we wanted to talk about a new Netflix reality show. That's not normally their forte. It is called The Push. We watched a trailer for it yesterday in the office. And we honestly couldn't really believe what we were seeing. So it's this dude, Darren who is he calls himself a mentalist he's basically a magician magician who does like broad scale uh you know he'll like trick people
Starting point is 00:53:13 into thinking something different than like he he uses human sort of cognitive biases and like and blind spots to trick people and do crazy tricks. And so his gambit here is that he has set up a fake sort of candid camera style thing in which he is trying to get somebody to murder another person. And he's basically gaslighting them into thinking that they are murdering someone and uh we we follow this unwitting person as you know they are made to
Starting point is 00:53:54 think that they've just poisoned someone and then they're disposing of the body and then uh at the end the reason it's called the push is because at the end, the victim has come back from the dead and was not totally dead. And now the victim is going to tell on them if they don't kill him, if they don't push him off the side of the building. So in the final scene, the unwitting victim has to stand on the roof and decide whether or not to push this person off the roof. And I don't know. So the big question is, does he push them or not? And, you know, does he commit murder or not? This is just a fucking just a crazy show.
Starting point is 00:54:40 Right. In general. Right. Because if you just want to distill things, it's just calledren brown will gaslight a person into murdering somebody yeah uh and yeah yeah he he's done shit like this before where he got the dude to electrocute a kitten inside a metal box or so he thought he was uh and then also played russian roulette on live tv but that was a magic trick these are all like obviously fake but yeah jm our writer he also mentioned that this show already happened right next show happened in the uk again netflix is doing their thing where
Starting point is 00:55:10 they're licensing something that already fucking happened and they're like oh coming soon uh so the shit is on youtube already yeah it's on youtube it only has 5 000 views which is probably why they thought oh we can go ahead and just replay this and nobody will notice. Right. Our writer says it's kind of like if that movie The Game was an episode of the Jamie Kennedy experiment, which is really the vibe that it has. It seems like the next level of reality TV, sort of the reality TV already sort of the dregs of humanity is now going to that next step where they're actually at least convincing someone that they're killing someone. That the climax of a show is, will this guy murder someone or won't he? And that's our entertainment now. Even if it's real or fake, but that's the vehicle that's powering it. And look, spoiler alert for this show in case you want to watch it uh so
Starting point is 00:56:07 avert your ears for this next 30 seconds we we found out at the end of the actual thing that happens the dude doesn't kill right he doesn't push him but then darren brown shows him like well i got three other people to do it right so this is weird that's the turn the guy we've been following doesn't push the guy who's again. All right. So this is the weird thing for me is the person who he's deciding whether or not to murder is just sitting on the edge of a building looking off at the horizon perfectly still while like they're making up their mind. Right. Like, what do they think is happening? Why do they think the dude is just sitting there on the edge of a building not moving and then when they push him he like doesn't scream so it's just like i think there must be some explanations like well we gave him the sedative so but then it's weird like if all these other people are down to kill him like why aren't they killing him like why does it have to be this guy i'm sure they will explain that because it's the work of like 70 plus actors around this guy yeah to create the
Starting point is 00:57:05 situation that slowly be like hey man you don't have a choice this guy's a millionaire if he tells his story he's gonna know we tried to cover up a murder and then you're going to jail so you got to kill him it's him or you right uh and three of the people do it and the guy who we follow doesn't do it but so those three people are just now known throughout the UK as murderers. People who would. Yeah. We're just. Hey, fuck it, baby.
Starting point is 00:57:27 I don't know. Or it's it was a failure because they didn't get the result they wanted. And like any good reality show producer, you have contingency plans and you're like, well, what we can do is just shoot a package, a video package to throw to to be like, well, these other people did it. So people who are watching don't feel totally let down. Yeah. Because really, when you watch this, you're going to be like, oh, shit, this so people who are watching don't feel totally let down yeah because really when you watch this you're going to be like oh shit this dude is going to kill somebody yeah right and when he doesn't yeah it's probably you want to give them the satisfaction well these three other people who you didn't see the whole time which probably would have made a better show if you're sick enough to want to see this yeah that they did so uh-huh
Starting point is 00:58:01 right my my question is how do you go back into the real world after that? Like after that, like it's like, oh, this is fake. Like I remember I'm in this. You have to look for it. But I'm in this Chevy commercial in the concept. Yeah. No, it's not like it's one of those like we got a sample of regular people. And I'm like, we're going to show you this tin man thing. And immediately when I got there, was like something's up like i
Starting point is 00:58:25 don't get this and i hate being scared so i thought it was like some kind of like scare prank show right but they're like yeah we're gonna show you this movie he's the aluminum man and then like so then they're asking everyone like what do they think of the aluminum as a power and everyone's like oh nah they want us to shit on this and then the aluminum man's gonna come out and be like oh y'all was talking shit. So I was so scared. And, like, you can see in the front, they're like, all right, wed commercial to be like to shit on like the alumina cars and be like steals the material but i was so like i was like oh no this is fishy well see the difference is like you're in the
Starting point is 00:59:14 business and you're around production so it's easier for you to smell shit than maybe some unsuspecting person but that's what i'm curious like i don't know i mean i know darren brown like from various youtube clips and you know the uk's i can't i know you're Like, I don't know. I mean, I know Darren Brown, like, from various YouTube clips and, you know, the UK's Ike Gang. I know you're out there. I don't know. Is this guy a total cock? Like, is he like David Blaine where people hear, like, oh, yeah, David Blaine is whatever. I mean, he's interesting.
Starting point is 00:59:33 Or do people like, yo, Darren Brown's a fucking piece of shit. Right. Because that would be – imagine, though, if you really did go through with that. I don't know how you would actually recover because the moments they do have, if everything is real, even if this Mark is their actual person, this guy looks like he's really having to weigh the pros and cons.
Starting point is 00:59:53 They look devastated. Yeah, like, am I going to push this human being off a building? And then do you have any legal recourse after that? Be like, hey, my man, you got to pay for these therapy sessions. Right. I don't care if that was fake.
Starting point is 01:00:04 I still feel like I pushed a fucking guy off a building. Yeah. My life is over. I'll never be hired for a job again. And the people who supposedly did commit murder or believe they were committing murder are just like, wow, I really learned a lesson about how I should not go along with people. Boy, do I have egg on my face. Right. I just murdered a person
Starting point is 01:00:25 and my family and everyone who's ever loved me just saw it. That's even worse as, hey, were you ever convicted of a felony? I've seen you in a clip be coerced into murder. And I know that's in your bag, your toolkit. You better not
