Hey, believe what you want to believe. You know what I'm saying? There's people out there that believe Michael Jordan's better than LeBron James. People are crazy.

That is where the Up First podcast comes in. Every single morning, in under 15 minutes, we take the news and boil it down to three essential stories so you can keep up without feeling stressed out. Listen up first from NPR on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello everybody and welcome to this Friday, February 28th edition of Retrend of Measles. Yeah, it's spooky out there, folks. Crazy, so many ways.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Spooky, hilarious. I'm yeah, we actually, you know, he really did. It is. It really is crazy. I knew as soon as I heard it, I was like, he knows what 2025 is going to be like. It's crazy. Scary. Spooky. Hilarious. Nailed it. Yep. You figured it out. I don't know how, but you did. Anyway, I'm Myles and I'm here with Brian, the editor. What's up, Brian? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I know. Exactly. Well, it's Friday. It's time to check in with what's trending Brian you are not in the United States. So you get to watch everything terribly unfold from over there
Starting point is 00:03:11 But America just get the feel of fire. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly Well, look over here in America. We just had our first measles death in a decade or so sounds like yeah measles death in a decade or so sounds like yeah that was last time was 2015 when a woman in Washington State died of measles this time sadly is an unvaccinated child in Lubbock Texas and this would be of all places in any normal world I don't know what's fucking normal anymore usually you would have a functioning health and human services and all that. But the secretary of HHS is one RFK Jr. AKA let them kids die of measles. Check out just just his antics.
Starting point is 00:03:57 It's really got a way of letting children die for adults and the stinks. But yeah, the measles outbreaks again were brought up to Trump during like this cabinet meeting and he was just like bro that's he's like he's like that's that's RFK bro what don't you why don't you take that question and basically he was like saying that the people like that it's all blown out of proportion that the hospitalizations that are happening were quote mainly for quarantine quarantine. Everything RFK Jr. says is wrong. So even without checking this, I know this is wrong. Then I will check it.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Hold on. Okay. The actual chief medical officer of the Lubbock hospital where the, the, the death happened said, no one is hospitalized for quarantine. Because they need treatment. Okay. He's like. Yeah, we don't do that. Because they need treatment. OK? He's like, yeah, we don't do that. He was saying right now those patients, quote, are needing supplemental oxygen and respiratory support
Starting point is 00:04:53 to help them get over viral pneumonia linked to measles. So Dr. Laura Johnson, thank you for just saying the words out loud that are science-based. And then also, RFK was saying that, quote, we're following the measles epidemic every day. Incidentally, there have been four measles outbreaks this year. In this country last year, there were 16.
Starting point is 00:05:16 So it's not unusual. We have measles outbreaks every year. Okay, great. Again, this was another thing, like I said, in American Samoa, Kennedy went out there, there was an outbreak in 2019. Um, and then he was just also talking to us like, yeah, it's not that big of a deal. I wasn't telling them to not vaccinate or whatever. And then a outbreak happened, whatever, whatever, who knows, who knows? And then he also said that quote, we don't know what was killing the people who
Starting point is 00:05:44 died in that outbreak. So very alarming. And then he also said that quote, we don't know what was killing the people who died in that outbreak. So very alarming. And also not to mention that he canceled like the, there's like an annual scientific gathering to discuss like flu vaccinations for the year. He's just canceled that meeting. So, um, I think they'll just have to freeze. They'll go to a parking lot and do it to figure out how to look guys. The measles, measles happens every look my father and my uncle get shot every year it's a it's an annual thing you know
Starting point is 00:06:13 what I mean normal perfectly normal for your father and uncle to get shot every year on the same day yeah what it is all right right. And other news, I guess lighter news there. Okay. So in 2019, Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm sorry. Did you say lighter news smiles? I don't think so. This is quite a heavy story. So in 2019, like three dudes took off with a golden, an 18-carat golden toilet that was taken from Blenheim Palace, which is where Winston Churchill was born. This was back in 2019. They never recovered it because they're like,
Starting point is 00:06:55 well, they probably cut up this solid piece of gold and sold it because it's a shit ton of gold. In fact, it weighed just over 215 pounds and was insured for 4.8 million pounds sterling, which is around $6 million. The value of the gold at that time was about three and a half million dollars. And it was previously on display at the Guggenheim and then made its way to the UK. But yeah, so apparently like these that they've caught these three people that are involved one is the dude who stole the toilet and then two were the ones that helped fence it or break it down to make money for it yeah but who
Starting point is 00:07:33 carried it god damn that's been the one dude because they said he took out of there he got out of there within minutes like this shit was also hooked up to plumbing I mean okay I need I need a detailed Detailed breakdown of this fucking heist because I've never I've never seen anything. I can't envision Heisting an operating toilet. That's wild to me. There is Like okay here is here's some CCTV footage. Oh I think this is what they say. This is some CCTV footage of when... No! I think this is what they say. This is some CCTV footage of the golden toilet.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Again, set up, hooked up to plumbing. Oh, it kinda looks, that's the wild thing about gold is it makes certain things look like shit. This is where you see the, this is the dude piecing out with the toilet right here. In a hatchback? Yeah. Hold on, where's my guy right here?
Starting point is 00:08:21 Okay, so there's the hatchback. They're in a vulture. He's like, yo, yo, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on. Okay. Here's homeboy. He got the toilets. So he got the golden toilet seat and actually look heavy Oh, yeah, and the other guys it looks like they're okay. They're rolling it out on like Oh, it looks like they probably had it on like a dolly or something. Okay, unless you had like they could have just had like a strong man It's only 215 pounds light work. Boom and they're gone. They're gone. Oh, like Kaiser Soze. Poof. And they're out. Yeah. So that's how they absconded with a 215 pound toilet. The trial is now just beginning. Yeah, holy shit. But the interesting thing is like, apparently, this is an
Starting point is 00:09:00 art piece that this Italian artist Maurizio Catalan made and it was funny because apparently when Trump I think was in Office he asked the Guggenheim to like I'd like a van go for like that I could that I could you know show in the White House or whatever They're like they're like I'm gonna fuck out of here. You want this golden toilet and now he said no and the piece is titled America So pretty spot-on Wow. Yep. Yep. Again, prophetic. Exactly. And before we take a break, just want to touch on Andrew Tate and his brother, the other guy, Tate, have been in the headlines for the last couple of years due to their criminal behavior in Romania. A country Tate, you know, like moved to and always talk about is like how lax the laws
Starting point is 00:09:42 are there, especially when it comes to things like sex trafficking and assault. Um, but they were arrested him and his brother were arrested in Romania in 2022 and we're facing trial on charges of rape, sex with a minor human trafficking and money laundering. But, and they were barred from leaving Romania until yesterday when apparently they were just like, yeah, they're able to go. And they're like, this has nothing to do with any of this. There's no interference from the Trump.
Starting point is 00:10:07 This is just, this is just, we're just letting them leave. Very murky. Especially when you consider that they took a flight just basically from Romania directly to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. And this feels like very much has the hallmarks of a Trump administration pressure campaign to again look at sex criminal. I wonder if this has anything to do with Andrew's new role as secretary of keeping it real. Oh yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:10:37 You think those are related? I don't know. I mean, it's, I think it is a confirmed, I think he will have to go through the confirmation process, but yeah, it could be it could be I'm just like I'm wondering who they're gonna get to confirm him because you you need a sigma to confirm another sigma Those are the rules Dude only sigma's can confirm other sigma's dude. That's in the Constitution. It's in the Constitution I'm less than fucking beta cook. Hey, I'm me
Starting point is 00:11:01 You know what's wild though, too They go to Florida and then Ron DeSantis the governor was asked about it and he was like, they're not welcome here I'm like, you know, wait, what the fuck your whole y'all whole brand is the game What do you mean Ron? Yeah, it ruffled a few feathers Ron Hey Rob What a Rob he was robbed. Come on, let's take a quick break. We'll come back with some more fucking weird headlines and trends right after this. Yeah. Hey y'all, it's your girl, Cheeky's and I'm back with a brand new season of your favorite podcast,
Starting point is 00:11:39 Cheeky's and Chill. I'll be sharing even more personal stories with you guys. And I know a lot of people are gonna attack me. Why are you gonna go visit your dad? Your mom wouldn't be okay with it. I'm gonna tell you guys right now, I know my mother. And I know my mom had a very forgiving heart. That is my story on plastic surgery. This is my truth. I think the last time I cried like that
Starting point is 00:12:01 was when I lost my mom. Like that, like yelling. I was like, no. I was like, oh, and I thought, last time I cried like that was when I lost my mom. Like that, like yelling. I was like no. I was like oh and I thought what did I do wrong? And as always you'll get my exclusive take on topics like love, personal growth, health, family ties, and more. And don't forget I'll also be dishing out my best advice to you on episodes of Dear Cheekies. So my fiance and I have been together for 10 years and the first two years of being together I find out he is cheating on me not only with women but also with men. What should I do? Okay, where do I start?
Starting point is 00:12:37 That's not love. He doesn't love you enough because if he loved you he'd be faithful. It's going to be an exciting year and I hope that you can join me. Listen to Chiquis and Chill Season 4 as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's Amartines. The news can feel like a lot on any given day, but you can't just ignore las noticias when important world-changing events are happening. That is where the Up First podcast comes in. Every single morning in under 15 minutes, we take the news and boil it down to three essential stories so you can keep up without feeling stressed out.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Listen up first from NPR on the iHeart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you remember what you said the first night I came over here? How goes lower? From Blumhouse TV, iHeart Podcasts, and Ember 20 comes an all new fictional comedy podcast series. Join the flighty Damien Hirst as he unravels the mystery of his vanished boyfriend. And Santi was gone.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I've been spending all my time looking for answers about what happened to Santi. And what's the way to find a missing person? Sleep with everyone he knew, obviously. Hmm, pillow talk. The most unwelcome window into the human psyche. Follow our out of his element hero as he engages in a series of ill-conceived investigative hookups.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Mama always used to say, God gave me gumption in place of a gag reflex. And as I was about to learn, no amount of showering can wash your hands of a bad hookup. Now take a big whiff, my brah. Listen to The Hookup on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows. Have you ever looked into the night sky and wondered who or what was flying around up there? We've seen planes, helicopters, hot air balloons, and birds. But what if there's something else, something much more ominous that appears under the cover of night, silent, unseen, watching?
Starting point is 00:14:42 They may be right above your car late one night as you cruise down the road or look like mysterious lights hovering above your home. Drones or are they? We used the word drone because it was comfortable to other people. One minute it was there, one minute it wasn't. Oh that is beyond creepy. Do you feel like this drone was targeting you specifically? Yes, absolutely. Listen to Obscurum, Invasion of the Drones, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:15:19 or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. Meta is trending because I don't know if people were on Instagram yesterday or the day before because you may have seen something on Reels, the Reels section, where people were just getting fed some of the most horrific violent content. like shit that you're like am I on like the 2007 internet when they were like websites my own eyes yeah no for real like am I on 2006 live leak is this was happening because that's what it feels like oh this is the glorious shit ever people were like what
Starting point is 00:16:01 the fuck's going on all meta came out was this statement said quote we have fixed an error that caused some users to see content in their Instagram real speed that should not have been recommended We apologize for the mistake Not supposed to see that oh You guys fucking weird. I mean like again we talked about house that it was like we're not Moderating shit now. This is this is all part of the plan for them, baby Oh, yeah. Yeah, this is just this is just like it's like when like when Drake puts out like a little single It's like one of those little feelers. Yeah. Yeah people is people vibing with this See unmoderated death
Starting point is 00:16:42 Still goes forward with it, you know, then they probably Yeah, they really were just like oh just like a big boo-boo But then you're also like where the fuck like do you guys also? I'm like this is on reels Why is this here in the first place? Yeah, a few people that we work with had this firsthand experience or they're like my feed of watching dog tricks was interrupted by just Indescribable violence that they're like I what what the fuck did I just watch? Yeah, when you're going for I bleach and checking in on friends and family, you don't want to see like You know someone be de-gloved or something. I don't know. No, no, it was no, it's really like it's like
Starting point is 00:17:26 be de-gloved or something I don't know. No, no, it was truly like it's like awful awful shit like just reading some of the like what people are describing they saw I'm like okay no. Anyway so Meta just said oops sorry and you know moderation is woke so we're not doing it. It's also expensive. Speaking of the oligarchs, Elon Musk has basically done like a rejay, like, I don't care, over his like, I demand you tell me your five most productive accomplishments this week. Because this had a whole back and forth. It was like, first, there was an email and people laughed it off. Then there was like a second chance email was like, hey, listen, you get terminated. And while that seemed to be like, yo, this is it, this is the time
Starting point is 00:18:04 to do it. Then the Trump administration said the email was actually voluntary and then Trump was saying well Like if you don't like answer then you would be quote sort of semi-fired Here's here's my question. I was never quite clear on I never got clarity is so How I found out about this whole send me an email telling me why you should keep your job thing he sent that out as a tweet no there was any this was like an actual email mass okay cuz I was like how how to fucking am I supposed to respond to this email no no no this is a mass tweeted out he basically hit like
Starting point is 00:18:43 the group all he said at all. And then I would believe that Elon would do something that dumb of like, you need to email me right now. Uh, all right. No, it basically is. But again, it just being, it became less and less consequential and they started backing off on this shit until the point where they're just like, so, you know, people were like first of all Let's say every fucking person replied to this email How the fuck you go through millions of emails and then from there efficiently determine?
Starting point is 00:19:15 Who is actually justifying their job or who is a loyalist or who is not whatever you thought this like weird power move was gonna Do just anything makes sense. It's just purely for your you know, again He's ketamine braised dogshit brain of his that he's just like, yeah, dude, this would be fucking sick. And then I'll have to work with Twitter. Yeah. Well, yeah, but that was like not even close to the same amount of employees then. So when people were like, people were pointing this out, they're like, Hey, dumb ass, what the fuck? How do you think this was going to work?
Starting point is 00:19:43 He then just backed off it and was just like, well, we wouldn't need large language models. He said, quote, it was just a check to see if the employees had a pulse and if they were capable of replying to an email. Like completely was like pivoting off of that shit. Like it was all a joke the whole time. So again, this is just, it's wild.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Like they're, it's so great. It's just wild that they're stupid and evil at the same time And unserious. Yeah, it's just all fucking like they're dead ass and completely unserious at the same time dead and dumb ass That's both they dumb dead ass Um, so yeah, we'll see what you know, what kind of Shit he does to try and make himself feel powerful this weekend I can leave. I can't wait and then finally some good news
Starting point is 00:20:31 Nathan Fielder who gave us the rehearsal and you know, Nathan for you many The rehearsal season 2 teaser just dropped no It's Oh, yeah. No. And it's like, it's just, it's, it's like a teaser in its purest form. So the truth, so the new season comes out on 420. Thank God we have something else. Yeah, I don't know. The highest of holy days. What do you think of that teaser?
Starting point is 00:21:00 It's just like the scale of it now. It's like not even just one rehearsal. It looks like he's got like five multi-verses happening. It's just like the scale of it now. It's like not even just one rehearsal. It looks like he's got like five multi-verses happening. It's definitely okay the thing about the rehearsal with you know all the humor aside is the the production looked complicated and really I feel like this this teaser really sort of it's just such an odd show, like, yeah, to conceptualize and to describe to people and, yeah, getting to see the production aspects of the actual sort of production that you're watching. It's got this meta thing. Very weird. And just he's perfectly suited for this kind of a
Starting point is 00:21:48 This kind of media. It's just wild how much it just it's really nice to see like sort of comedians Just get the sort of creative like latitude There's be like, you know, bro What like what do you want to make and they're just like I think this would be really wild like to do a show I like how heady it is because it's like it's not like a Eric Andre type thing where it's just like everything just devolves into Shitting yeah, it's beer-bonging ranch or something. Yeah, it's it's got little threads running through it So yeah, I'm it looks the duplication in the teaser is yeah interesting I don't know where they're going with that and I don't want I don't want to know I want to be surprised
Starting point is 00:22:30 So yeah, I just like I know it's gonna be interesting. Are these multiverses? Is this like some synecdochey New York shit, you know, definitely some synecdochey Is that even how you pronounce that? The movie? Yeah, yeah. Cinec-doche? I think it's Cinec-douch. Cinec-doche, New York. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:22:50 Hey, Cinec-douch. Get over here. Cinec-douch. All right. Those are the stories that are trending today. We will have more tomorrow. We got a brand new episode, so tune in for that. It's basically a two podcast
Starting point is 00:23:05 mashup with my guest host and our guests. Yeah, it's gigantic episode. You're gonna love it. You're going to love it. So yeah, check in for that and yeah, that'll be it for us today. And then we'll be back tomorrow. But again, until then, please take care of yourselves. Please take care of yourselves. Give yourself some grace.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Give yourself some space. You know, take care of each other, please. It's really fucked up out there. And all jokes aside, get whatever flu shots you can. Who knows what's going to happen. So yes, until then, take care of each other. We'll see you soon. Bye bye.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Bye. Calling all 9-9ers, now streaming. It's the More Better podcast with two episodes of Brooklyn 9-9 fun.
