Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeart on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast presented by capital one founding partner of iheart women's sports hello the internet and welcome to this episode of save us trendington three please trendington please it's gonna be hard you're our only heart trendington in palu um my name is jack o'brien that is miles gray these are some of the stories that are trending right now i mean the big one the supreme court
Starting point is 00:01:58 protected abortion medication huh let me get my glasses here scotus the one with the conservative fucking hyper majority they yeah they just dropped the fucking hammer uh on that group of like religious doctors who are like you have to limit the availability of the abortion drugs like mifepristone and get them off the market yeah um Brett weekend at Beer Knees Cavanaugh. I just had to come up with that off the dome. In his decision... I like beer!
Starting point is 00:02:33 I like drinking beer! Alright. Relax, dude. You shouldn't even be up there. What a strange time that was. In any normal time, that's so disqualifying. Remember when he came at Amy Klobuchar? I was like, are you drunk? And you're like, wait, what?
Starting point is 00:02:48 What about you? What the fuck? Anyway, basically said that this group of doctors... He basically never had anybody push back on him about anything ever. Yeah, because you can tell when they're not built for it, they start going like... Yeah, just a hot house-ass flower. You're not ready.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Anyway, so he basically said that they these doctors had no standing uh to challenge the fda over this issue that they're like it doesn't impact you personally uh quote plaintiffs are pro-life oppose elective abortion and have sincere legal moral ideological and policy objections to mifepristone being prescribed and used by others because plaintiffs do not prescribe or use mifepristone plaintiffs are unregulated parties who seek to challenge the fda's regulation of others uh so basically going on to say yeah this isn't you get the fuck out of here yeah this this doesn't hurt you and like and also like your future harms you're trying to predict like those have not come
Starting point is 00:03:41 to pass so just no that's it's not happening basically you're not going to be able to challenge this or challenge the fda's authority here so you will truly have to find a new angle um which was heartening a unanimous decision to be like no we're tossing this case um but we're not out of the woods here one for us one for them three for us one for them right 15 for us one for them there's still time for them to really fuck around with people's rights again because they're also said to hear another abortion case from idaho where the state argues that like we can like hospitals should be allowed to refuse treatment for people who have emergency abortions like it can't just be like
Starting point is 00:04:23 that that they potentially need an emergency abortion we want these people fighting for their lives before we feel good about you know because they're referring to the state constitution where it's like the fetus is also a person so we also have to consider that the fetus needs to be our mayor yeah well yeah but wait don't hold your breath because that may happen. And this may or may not end up as a loss for those of us that cherish body autonomy. But these two rulings together, it could be the opportunity that this radically right wing court is looking for to try and ease the heat on them to be like look man dude look what we did we could have fucking nuked all that shit but we didn't man stop talking about samuel alito and clarence thomas so you know maybe the outrage works um but i don't think we can just trust us yeah hey you can trust
Starting point is 00:05:20 us come sit down on daddy's lap. Yeah. He smelled like beer. Damn son. I like beer. Whoa. Whoa. All right. Fuck this. So yeah,
Starting point is 00:05:31 small victories. But again, like this, that first case had no business even getting to the Supreme court, because as we've said, there's this, they, they,
Starting point is 00:05:40 all these conservative activists are just trying to put groups of people together with like fake damages to try and sue their way to the Supreme Court and go judge shopping, court shopping to get it there but yeah, a victory nonetheless a victory and a victory for humanity because the trailer
Starting point is 00:05:58 dropped for the third Paddington movie earlier this week and the world is rejoicing Paddington in Peru finds the titular bear and the Brown family journeying to South America to visit his aunt Lucy. But is she there in the house when he goes to visit her? She is not. So things go not according to plan. In this film.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Things go bear shaped. Am I right, Miles? I gotta go. No, you don't. You need to sit right here on my lap. Yes, I smell like beer. The cast includes Olivia Colman as a
Starting point is 00:06:40 nun. Antonio Banderas as a sexy... Antonio Banderas. What did he say? Antonio Banderas as a sexy boat captain. A sex positive boat captain is the energy I'm getting from
Starting point is 00:06:57 Antonio Banderas. Love that. Also when he pulls up at first in the trailer, I'm like, well, that can't be Antonio Banderas. That man is the age of raul julia in uh the adams family films that's he looked he looked a little old a little long in the tooth sadly mrs brown no longer played by sally hawkins which i think this was the first that most people realized that that role had been recast. And for the best possible reasons, Sally Hawkins was like, no, I thought we were just doing like a couple of these. I'm not like the Paddington person.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Yeah. So she quit. They got a new Mrs. Brown. She's probably going to fuck Antonio Banderas, if I had to guess. It's a kid's film. It's a kid's film, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:51 All right, I guess I'm going to watch it. All right, maybe it'll just be in some short story that I write. I just love, though, that she said the whole thing. I know everyone on the list is like, what the fuck's going on? She said, quote, for me, it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another. And one can't get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer. She's extraordinarily special. Like, it's not like you were James Bond for like 30 years straight.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And you're like, you know what? It's time. But also, I get it. Like, I'm sure as a performer, you're like, look, I did. I did the best one ever. So, yeah. She saw this script and you're like, look, I did the best one ever. Yeah. Or maybe she saw this script and she's like, no, thank you. Maybe someone else should do this.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Hey, the director is not the same. And Mrs. Brown is not the same. So maybe the magic is not the same. We don't know. And we won't know here in the u.s until january 17th 2025 it's coming out in november in the uk uh november 8th but they're holding it in the u.s and i'm not sure why other than that they're like people are gonna be fucked and like that it's just crazy no one's going to the movies when there's a potential breakdown of society in the united states yeah the like it's wild to be
Starting point is 00:09:12 seeing a trailer and being a like that we're in that time frame when the trailer where the trailers we see will be and this is like the first teaser trailer right this is like the second trailer that they put out like before like not long before the movie comes out it's coming out after donald trump might be president again um but just before but just before the inauguration yeah so that is before yeah so that is cool so and that is cool and i like that but yeah it uh it's just weird it's a very odd close miles to get there like i said man just take your time november it's taking his time but not not slow enough yeah in my day opinion yeah yeah give that shit some downers give time some fucking downers yeah let's drag this thing out let's
Starting point is 00:10:05 take a quick break we'll be right back i'm jess casavetto executive producer of the hit netflix documentary series dancing for the devil the 7m tiktok cult and i'm cleo gray former member of 7m films and shekinah church and we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Starting point is 00:12:15 I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically Black. I love her.
Starting point is 00:12:49 What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:15 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. And we're back. We're back. And this is something that, also in the world of movies, this is something that I feel like people have been thinking was going to happen. Because, so for a long time, since 1948, there was a law that was passed that was basically like studios can't buy movie theaters. Because prior to 1948, it was like this vertically integrated like monopoly system where like the the studio like owned the theater determined what movies could be shown only studio movies got shown
Starting point is 00:13:53 uh bad for independent cinema um and the department of justice uh overturned that for in uh 2020 yeah they just let that thing sunset they're like should we revisit this like i don't know just just let it just let it cook man because we we just when has just allowing the largest businesses the largest corporate interests in the united states uh when has letting them run the show ever gone badly uh except gestures at everything gestures around self broadly um so there there'd been rumors that amazon was going to try and buy like arclight that hasn't happened yet i don't think but this uh in this case sony uh who i think also has like columbia and uh you know the big movie studio, they have purchased the Alamo Drafthouse.
Starting point is 00:14:51 That chain has been struggling to stay afloat and declared bankruptcy in 2021. So not necessarily a huge surprise that it was sold. I think they went wrong by making you use little pencils. Yeah, the little golf pencils pencils the little mini golf pencils it's like the one time you're like you got like a fucking qr code or something man yeah like i'm gonna try to like keep my like mini golf score while like ordering the wrong thing five times in the dark yeah but yeah yeah i think this is uh i mean i remember we talked about this being like being allowed to sunset four years ago and this was in the news and yeah the concerns are still the same like if every studio just owns their own theater like how are they incentivized to like peddle the
Starting point is 00:15:38 wares of their competitors it's like oh what is that disney all right you got to go see that at amc oh what is this it's a sony joint you gotta go to alamo draft us like that's the horrific apocalyptic version of where this ends up i'm not sure like where this goes because this is really the first studio really getting into it yeah what is that a24 uh you're gonna have to watch that on tubi yeah movie tube site but i feel like if you're if you're bothering to invest in the like theater business you have to do what's best to keep people coming in so if you just limit your offerings to just the shit that you make then that's probably not going to bode well um yeah but yeah i don't know man it's uh i don't it's hard for me to see the upside
Starting point is 00:16:27 of studios owning the means of projecting it's called vertical integration miles get used to it it's a phrase that we made up and it in no way means that we are immovable and everywhere and you can't get around us yeah don't try don't even try and get over us good for making money and good for making money just means we can invest back in the product and that's what we do every time after we do a stock buyback thing that just like basically lines our pockets and fucks you over um it's a great deal for everyone or i hope like you know maybe with this kind of emphasis, there's a place for more independent theaters to flourish because they're like, dude, you want to see something good?
Starting point is 00:17:12 Come to my backyard. Come to my backyard, dude. I'm going to show you. Come sit on my lap. Dude, you want to see Johnny Darko in 4K? You did call Donnie Darko Johnny Darko the other day. That wasn't a meeting other day eating me up yeah you're like i got like whatever that white guy jill and hall bunny movie johnny johnny whatever i was
Starting point is 00:17:34 gonna say johnny mnemonic i think yeah where i was going with that you're talking about the dorm room date which was i think that could be a podcast. Just dorm room date. Yeah. Like just describe. Anyway, we'll save that for another time. Yeah. Johnny Darko. But yeah, the people who take people on dorm room dates will show them the number one most popular on the Yelp for dorm room dates. The number one most recommended by the people planning the dates and not the people going on them is Johnny Darko. But I mean, the good news is that the media is all over this one uh laney gossip noted uh described it
Starting point is 00:18:13 thusly with sony's purchase of alamo draft house could studios buying movie theaters become the hot new trend fuck hot new trends forever the hot new trend among multinational corporations the hot new yeah you mean just a terrible a terrible development that will affect all consumers yeah let's see trump dunked on milwaukee this one i don't know this one seemed kind of like because so he said that milwaukee sucks right he was like milwaukee where we were having our convention is a horrible city but it feels like he was just doing like a inside joke thing about how he i mean it's still horrible it's not it's not like the top five most horrible things he said this week but no i think people like want to make this like he he says milwaukee sucks and like he's not a man of the people but i think it was an inside joke
Starting point is 00:19:10 made to other election truthers because that was like one of the places like he has insisted he won the state of wisconsin right and then milwaukee yeah milwaukee like stole a bunch of boats and so he was making like a little aside and being like milwaukee which i'm told is a horrible city so i don't know it's also one of those things where like you know democratic pundits are like oh don't say that that's gonna that's not gonna help you're like are you fucking kidding me this guy's a fucking shit he's a piece of shit and they love him yeah they love him for being a piece of shit and they love him for saying milwaukee is a bad like that that's exactly what like you'll see people probably voters of wisconsin are you kidding yeah or people just turn up with shirts
Starting point is 00:20:01 that are like milwaukee is a horrible place and then they're like yeah like just how people were like real men wear diapers like it doesn't matter what anything is what he said is that when people were talking about him wearing diapers and shit all these people started wearing real men wear diaper shirts to try and like take the bite out of this thing where like people were saying like oh donald Trump's wearing diapers at the courthouse so people outside the courthouse and at rallies had things like like there are people wearing fucking diapers like we support him it doesn't matter like
Starting point is 00:20:33 it doesn't fucking matter man the only thing I honestly think the only thing that would affect people is if he just started espousing like progressive values yeah because like they're like he's their attack dog for like white grievance politics so as long as that is the main thing it doesn't matter but everything else yeah yeah please yes please and more thank you
Starting point is 00:20:56 more sir yeah uh and finally a woman is facing 30 years in prison after bong water is found during a minnesota traffic stop yeah i didn't real so okay like drug paraphernalia was decriminalized right and even this did but according there's like a state there's an old law in the state of minnesota that like wasn't addressed that still treated bong wa or bong water bong uh bong wa uh as a controlled substance because of the residue like thc residue in it so uh you could be convicted of like a first degree possession crime do people ever get high off of bong water like drinking water that's like a shit that's like shit steve-o does to like freak people out he's like you want me to drink this bong water and i was like oh shit or shit people would do at parties in college and be like dude that guy's a fucking loser why the fuck did he like i remember a kid did that in high school
Starting point is 00:21:54 and everyone lost respect for him yeah like it's like the kids who ate bugs in elementary school drink bong water yeah it was worse than like being pantsed at a fucking like school rally like at the in the gym like everyone i remember everyone saw they're like dude that's fucking gross man yeah like i don't fuck that guy it's kind of the vibe that guy like it's just so it's not even like gross in the way that like uh you know eating a like putting a bunch of shit in a blender and drinking that is gross yeah yeah it's just like everyone's like nah uh-uh nope you crossed the line that we didn't want to see crossed and we don't like you now we've all decided but i got no boundaries like i'm i'm fucking wacky it's like no and you have no self-respect in a way we don't like yeah there's
Starting point is 00:22:39 a there's a fine line there's a fine line uh but anyway yeah another example of uh why are just dated drug laws need to be uh addressed but yeah what a fucking wild thing 30 years what the fuck yeah hopefully that's not the case but um who knows where that ends up but yeah guys don't travel with that bomb 34 uh felony counts is facing uh probably like having to wear a ankle bracelet the other thing is too and i i have to just note this this was found during a traffic stop so why are you anyone who's has like a nice bong or glass piece that they like to take to like a party or social gathering you're not fucking dry you're not moving around with that shit having water in it
Starting point is 00:23:30 unless you're using it while you're hitting it in the car in the car and then maybe you're like come on are you serious like they're like i don't have any weed because i just smoked it all and then they're like all right you fuck it. You just said that part out loud. Oh, fuck. So, I don't know. That's where I'm a little bit like I would like to know a little bit more some more details here in regards to the bong wall. It is very strange. Alright.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Well, that is a continuing story. We'll continue to be following. We'll keep monitoring. The bong wall chronicles. And those are some of the things that are trending on this Thursday, June 13th. We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Get your flu shots. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jermaine Jackson-Gadson.
