People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of six trends none the richer we're going to be talking about six things that are trending right now boom uh that will make you no more rich no more uh intelligent uh but they are trending informed so uh a well a well done short show title by one miles gray yep y'all heard that i think i like said it aloud the last time that's how we ideate around here we just capture the memories um anyways you are miles uh and you are right yeah jack jack jack jig jig uh jack yes big j um and uh these are some of the things that are trending now uh whole foods is trending why
Starting point is 00:02:48 there's a this clip on twitter well someone was like yo i just found this tiktok account i've gone down a rabbit hole this woman just goes through whole foods dumpsters and is you know just revealing just loads of food that aren't even like have not yet expired perfectly edible just being fucking shit canned and i think it's once again resurrected the discussion about food waste and how much we actually waste how how little of it can actually go to people in need like anecdotally some people were claiming that before whole foods was bought by amazon they would you know some places might have donated food but like i guess with amazon now owning it it's just like nope don't can't
Starting point is 00:03:31 don't just nope throw it away throw it away people didn't want to buy it then it's not useful to anyone else and we're whole foods so yeah yeah this is like kind of it's amazing how like other people are being like look at all that like i found all this just there uh and it expires in like three days type stuff but you do need to uh go hunting for the trend because when you google whole foods waste you got wholefoodsmarket.com about how they're great with food waste five green things you didn't know about whole foods market um and then waste today magazine how whole foods creates a second chance for food um so you know we we are in a system yeah we'll say exactly and you know it's it's a thing that you've seen other countries try and tackle like you know finding ways to truly minimize that because food insecurity is just such a huge issue and when you look at things like this of yeah man we're just shit canning this edible like these turkeys or
Starting point is 00:04:29 whatever the fuck it is uh and not getting you know not having uh like the will from a company like that to be like hey you know what we can use this thing that we don't profit off of to at least create something of good uh of good value to another person but the fact that they don't just have a highly publicized like food drop the day after like the day a few days before something goes wrong goes bad and it hasn't sold is bad like business too like that would make people like whole foods a lot yeah well i think the other part is that it's the it's the vanity though of like whole foods too that i think wouldn't allow that place for their customers to be like shoulder to shoulder with someone who actually might need
Starting point is 00:05:16 food um so right and i think and again for them because like being so you know sensitive about the perception of the company then fucking just do it find it create an auxiliary business like you have all this money then just fucking create a brand separate from it that's like the the not shitty food hoarder place right fuck amazon i guess peter doocy is trending uh because you know he he asked the hard-hitting questions hard fucking hitting quite did he do see isn't yeah let's face it he's a he's a scumbag he's a loser he's uh he's at fox news and all he could do is try and ask a real gotcha question to jen saki the white house press secretary because as we mentioned uh in a previous episode fox is still reeling from the
Starting point is 00:06:09 hate attack of their christmas tree being burned down by a guy who had no agenda against fox mostly just he had a penchant for lighting stuff on fire i do have to give it up to the uh daily show writers who called it pine 11 yeah yeah oh i. I mean, that's a chef's kiss. Well done. Here's the question. Here's a piece of hard-hitting journalism from Peter Doocy. The final one would be just in the last week, we saw a New York Post item about a pickpocket with more than 30 arrests back out on the street. We've seen an arsonist burn down a half a million dollar Christmas tree in New York City. Back out on the streets.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Does the president think that that's good governing? Again, I think I've spoken to the president's concerns about retail theft. If you have specific and the actions we've taken for specific cases, I would point to the local police departments or the Department of Justice. Go ahead. Go ahead. Thanks, asshole. Next. Do you think that's good governance i would have been like fam do you really want me to use that loose framework to
Starting point is 00:07:10 ask a question about when trump was president and tell me if it's the same thing or no um you don't need to but so it's like so absurd and again like he he tries to like pad it first with like a pickpocket for 30 arrests okay and a five hundred thousand dollar fucking tree dick with lights on it was burned down wow the fact that he's like five hundred thousand dollars like that they can't help themselves that's the mentality it's all about private property a pickpocket now look i get it sucks to have your shit stolen uh like your phone or whatever but like the whole thing was to motivate people off of material loss it's all about material loss yeah we don't even like have to eat the rich we just need to like burn all their cars and shit and that would be the equivalent to them oh yeah and probably wouldn't taste as bad as eating these
Starting point is 00:08:05 shit bags eat a car well you don't have to even eat oh i'm like i'm eating the leather interior from this my bob golden globe nom nom nom i eat this shit up folks it's golden globe season i remember one movie you kept saying it's so good and I feel like that is getting nominated. Something about the dog. You keep mentioning something about Power of the Dog or the head of the dog. Power of the Dog is good. Yeah, I think that got nominated a lot.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Yeah, I liked Power of the Dog a lot and y'all can stream that on Netflix. Yeah, go check that out if you don't mind like kind of a slowly paced western although it's not really like a western like in the it's not uh it's not dusty which is important to me i don't love a dusty got it got it got it but yeah this is i think a like landmark moment for people who can't do accents because benedict cumberbatch uh who just mangles
Starting point is 00:09:06 the american accent throughout but is great is otherwise great uh has been nominated for uh best actor in a drama he's not known for his elocution is he no have you seen that clip of him trying to say penguins penguins yeah like oh no that's exactly what i thought of the second the first time he said a thing right in the movie i was like oh right it's the ping wing penguin penguin has arrived the uh yeah so that that one's good uh i i also like um licorice pizza a lot and that that got heavily nominated oh jennifer cool he's got nominated for white lotus hello hello there it is um yeah that's well well earned yeah well deserved but yeah i don't know well this isn't one where i'm like seeing things on here that i was like oh i guess i do need to check that out because you've seen as I
Starting point is 00:10:05 said I'm like really into like the fact that we have an award season this year and that people are releasing movies so I'm like seeing them all right so I house a Gucci this weekend and comedy or drama that is that remains to be seen miles I love that so that the thing that I heard from Andrew T when he said i don't know if it was a comedy but i don't know if it was a drop that so that holds huh yeah and it's not over the top it's not like the thing is like oh my god i can't believe this is happening it's just overall the performances are so strange and so much better appreciated if you just like turn off the critical part of your brain or just like i'm gonna have to watch they're having so they're having fun and the story is cool all right so yeah i'll watch it that way
Starting point is 00:10:50 we can get the the triumvirate together to yell about house of gucci now i'm the odd person leto i you know i'm not a huge leto head i was really won over by his performance uh which is probably the most egregious accent work just all around like a good year for people who are bad at doing accents but still trying to do them um he but he always should be playing a very dumb guy like that's what i realized is like his he's great at that like it just this guy who's like oh like anything about of that like if you're kind of sort of oblivioso mr kind of dumb face like not really paying attention that's like sort of his oblivioso dumb face is a great uh great fictional name for my new novel oh yeah
Starting point is 00:11:37 that's a thing i always used to call one of my friends who's so oblivious like yo oblivioso what's going on here but yeah i uh i highly recommend watching it i'm not gonna say you're gonna like it no but that's all i need is because i'm so intrigued by everyone's version of describing it to me then i'm like all right say less say less i will say my wife gasped when adam driver first started talking okay in the accent that he uses. Oh, I love it. And I was like, don't worry about it. Just all their accents are all screwed up. And then Lady Gaga sounds a little bit more Russian
Starting point is 00:12:14 than Italian for most of it. But, you know, all in all, a good time was had at the movies. So the best motion picture, or comedy serrano which is something i don't know about the uh don't look up licorice pizza tick tick boom and west side story so those are the musical comedy category belfast coda which i just found out about that's about a child of deaf adults that's what that stands for and uh looks very good i i got a tear in my eye we're just watching the fucking trailer oh okay uh dune which okay i like i i already
Starting point is 00:12:56 recognized that me being kind of sort of in the middle about dune is going to lead to my uh demise because it's going to be such a heavy favorite of people um as we move forward in time okay king richard power the dog uh can't can't complain can't argue with any of that shit um yeah i think it's i'm looking forward to seeing don't look up because i keep the the things i hear are really the write-ups are interesting back and the pictures oh yeah and i just the pictures of everyone make me laugh so based off of that i'll have to check it out yeah yeah um all right let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. MTV's official challenge podcast is back for another season. That's right. The challenge is about to embark on its monumental 40th season, y'all.

In 1982, Atari players had one thing on their minds. Sword Quest.
Starting point is 00:15:44 This wasn't just a new game Atari promised 150 grand in prizes to four finalists But the prizes disappeared And what started as a video game promotion became one of the most controversial moments in 80s pop culture I just don't believe they exist
Starting point is 00:16:02 My reaction, shock and awe That sword was amazing It was so. I'm Jamie Loftus. Join me this spring for The Legend of Sword Quest, a podcast about the fall of Atari and the disappearing Sword Quest prizes. We'll follow the quest for lost treasure across four decades. Hey, I'm Bruce Bozzi. On my podcast, Table for Two, we have unforgettable lunch after
Starting point is 00:16:39 unforgettable lunch with the best guest you could possibly ask for. People like David Duchovny. You know, New Yorkers have a reputation of being very tough, but it's not. It's not that way at all. They're very accepting. Jeff Goldblum. Are you saying secret fries? Secret fries. That's what you're saying. Yeah. And Kristen Wiig. I just became so aware that I'm such a loud chewer. My husband's just like, sometimes I'll be eating and he'll just be looking at me. I'm like, loud chewer. My husband's just like, sometimes I'll be eating and he'll just be looking at me. I'm like, I'm just eating. Like, I don't know how else to chew. Table for Two is a bit different from other interview shows. We sit down at a great restaurant for a meal and the stories start flowing. Our second season is airing right now, so you can catch up on our conversations that are
Starting point is 00:17:21 intimate, surprising, and often hilarious. Listen to Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And, you know, we observed this in the year-end trender uh trender trend what do we they haven't heard it yet dude they haven't heard yeah but we they don't know so they're going to hear that like the nba is like the a very popular search term the most searched thing of 2021 and we're trying to figure out why that is but uh this day is no exception
Starting point is 00:18:07 uh the number one thing is the lakers uh number three is kevin durant because he dropped 51 durant is like sort of having a monster year in the shadow of steph curry having a monster year but the fact that just i feel like we should take a moment and stop and appreciate the fact that he has come back from yet another injury that a lot of people feared would be a career ending because he is a extremely slender seven foot seven foot guard that he has come back from another injury and been like just as good which should never fail to uh yeah yeah it shows you like he's indestructible the the stars have already set the course for him whereas no matter what he's going to keep doing it and yeah the
Starting point is 00:18:58 lakers trending for many reasons i mean we won we beat the orlando magic wow do you believe in magic not the lakers they certainly don't um but what's cool is lebron i think he's now is the oldest player to have a 30 point triple double he just took that record from kobe bryant and wow you know it's it's good to see him come in online firing on all cylinders ad is hurt he's still not we have not seen the ad of 2020 you know that had many of excited i mean i think it's hard with injury and i think it's hard you know really letting your body recover i'm hoping that's the case because i i get up to really hard for me to believe that anthony davis is has ceased to be consistent or a good player because just this is a tough time.
Starting point is 00:19:46 It's a tough time. He's in his 20s, right? Yeah. He's still like 29. So I don't know. All the criticism that he's been getting. Because he won the title two years ago. Everyone was like, all right, AD's like one of the greats.
Starting point is 00:19:57 So good. They had a very disappointing season last year in which he was like, good, but not like great. And then hurt. And then hurt and and then hurt yeah and now people are starting to look at him and be like yo man like you're you're supposed to be the leader of this team and it's not uh yeah it's not happening and he said what gives you know and he's been able to articulate too he's like i know what's expected from me and like i know i can be doing you know i can take things to another level i just don't like you know i don't think people need to be tearing
Starting point is 00:20:29 him down like you do see some parts of inner like laker fandom just completely lose sight of like their humanity and like just like roasting him constantly i don't think that's that's that's the move right there um but who knows i do wish for my sake that that was the only reason the lakers were trending. There's another reason that they're trending. And I don't think either of us want this. Uh, but it is being rumored that the Lakers might be open to a Westbrook Ben Simmons trade. I think that would be, I think Simmons is wildly undervalued at this point.
Starting point is 00:21:04 I don't know. The idea that like, those are both kind undervalued at this point i don't know it the idea that like those are both kind of toxic assets at this point the lakers at least westbrook is playing so people can kind of trick themselves into being like oh he'd be like an immediate like improvement to the team um take a second for him to get in his groove though we all know that so even if that happens yeah i would be i think the lakers will win that trade but i i think that's probably a an unpopular opinion um but simmons like the lakers need you know perimeter defenders and he's the best perimeter defender in the league right uh spacing is not helped by him but it's also not helped by westbrook yeah so i don't i don't feel like it's that big of a
Starting point is 00:21:45 net loss on offense and then uh on defense it's a huge huge gain yeah um i i want it for the lakers uh i don't want it for the sixers i mean we'd have a great defense that's that's with ben like i can't argue that yeah i think it's just the people people who like are real like uh and be like your zach lows of the world think that the lakers perimeter defense is the real thing that has like fallen off like caruso leaving is like actually the thing that has really like revealed everything damaged yeah yeah yeah you need a car so uh kcp was a really good defender and like they're all gone now and you have like malik monk and like people like that trying to and westbrook's not a good defender right he's just not all right and then uh mark meadows is
Starting point is 00:22:37 uh you know in danger of being held uh what what's what's the term or whatever i don't know what does that mean will he go to prison that's all i don't know they say stuff i'm not seeing i think that's the same thing many people are like what is that committee doing where's the oversight you're literally just letting people say nah i'm good and then like well he said they were good on that so i guess we're not going to get this evidence well Well, this time he's trying to block further documents from getting to the committee. He's claiming now executive privilege over personal emails. Over his Gmail.
Starting point is 00:23:12 Yeah. So, I mean, we've already slowly been seeing from some of these documents some shit about how they were talking about how they were going to use a National Guard to protect the MAGA people when they needed to. MAGA people were told that the national guard was going to have their back yeah during a overthrow the government which sounds a lot like a coup yeah that's why i'm also poorly organized coup oh yeah but sloppily um and unfortunately i mean some attention has
Starting point is 00:23:42 been paid there um but you know it also makes you think it's like, okay, well, we know that. I'm like, what the fuck else is, like, what is he hiding? Because everything we're seeing is damning. But damning ain't enough, apparently, for shit to move. So we will see. Yep. All right. Well, those are the things that are trending on this Monday, December 13th.
Starting point is 00:24:05 We are back tomorrow with a whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the fucking vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jermaine Jackson-Gadsden.
