Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Success Trend. This is a podcast where we look at the trends. What's trending? I'm Jack. You are Miles. I just had the last three episodes of Succession, not Success Trend.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Succession spoiled for me by Ana Hosnia, it was like, I asked her to do it. Yeah. Um, and it was really fun. I, I think we should do a podcast where Anna just like recaps the plots of, uh, shows and just spoils them so that you can get caught up,
Starting point is 00:02:37 uh, on things without having to do the hard work of watching them. That's how they, but then it's a slippery slope. Cause then the network's trying to sue people that do that. Cause they're like, you're giving away the show for free. I remember there's like a recap show that like they got hit with a
Starting point is 00:02:51 cease and desist because their recaps were like too detailed. Right. Uh, uh, Anna, just let me know. We can't afford her anyways. So,
Starting point is 00:03:00 uh, no, it doesn't, it doesn't matter. Just a pipe dream. Uh, but anyways, uh, we are us and here are
Starting point is 00:03:07 some of the things that are trending yep uh cu mortgage direct the company that uh what does the cu stand for who knows credit union maybe i don't know probably uh they're the company that uh staged the dystopian cash grab for teachers, uh, on ice games, uh, in a South Dakota hockey game. Uh, and they, uh,
Starting point is 00:03:30 took a look at the bad press that they received from that and evaluated it as, uh, you know, possibly ill-advised and, uh, unprofitable. Yeah. So they,
Starting point is 00:03:42 so they've issued a statement. Yeah. They've, uh, it was our bad apparently've issued a statement. Yeah, they've... It was our bad, apparently, is what they realized. Oh, no! Although our intent was to provide a positive and fun experience for teachers,
Starting point is 00:03:57 we can see how it appears to be degrading and insulting towards the participating teachers and the teaching profession as a whole we deeply regret and apologize to all teachers for any embarrassment this may have caused and they go on to say stuff like we take our role in the community seriously like our other things where we had a diabetic insulin obstacle course uh and other such benefit events we've done we have a uh soup kitchen where
Starting point is 00:04:27 we just throw the food on the floor and then right in front of them the piggies to eat come to the gobble it up you little piggies it's called the oops kitchen where you come in right before we give it to a person in need we just drop it right in front of them oh my god anyway see you mortgage direct check us out online at cum um but yeah they go on to say like you know they're gonna give more money don't worry they said together with cu mortgage direct and i think this is also this is coming from the the uh the hockey team that was also like a participant in it they said they'll be providing an additional $500, an additional $500 to those teachers who got between like four and $600, as well as providing $500 to those additional 21
Starting point is 00:05:10 applicants that were not able to participate. That's the other thing about it is a bunch of people applied to do the sad cash grab and weren't able to humiliate themselves for singles. So they will be giving them $500. And in total, they'll be giving an additional $15,500 to area teachers. So sorry about that. Sorry about that. Sorry about that.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Sorry about that. Let's not talk about education budgets in states or at the federal level. And so this is a mortgage company. They deal in the thousands and thousands of dollars just on a deal-by-deal basis. And they're offering, first of all, they put everything in ones in the cash grab, right?
Starting point is 00:05:51 Like, wasn't it all $1 bills? And then they're offering another $500. Maybe donate a bunch of money to the school district. No, no, no. They got to make a long-term pledge to fund a bunch of money to the school district or no no no they gotta make a long-term uh pledge to fund a bunch of this one is going to be a less of a cold affair we get that doing it on ice was a little bit cruel so what we're going to do is have them drag their bellies across hot coals and on the way collect 50 cent pieces those are are fun, right? Remember those?
Starting point is 00:06:27 The villages are trending. Yeah. These are the places that had all the pro-Trump rallies, right? Yeah, that's that Florida retirement community. Those are rampant STI problems, too. Yeah. Everyone's just having sex there. Yeah, especially in 2020 in the build up lead up to the election we were seeing like like go-kart parades like fascist go-kart parades and stuff golf cart patrol was their
Starting point is 00:06:53 their golf cart game is off the chain oh yeah very cool i mean yeah so not surprisingly three residents have been arrested on suspicion of casting multiple ballots during the 2020 presidential election there we knew there was voter fraud yeah in the fucking village they vote for them i have no idea i mean it probably i don't know probably donald trump wow yeah i mean i guess that would be an interesting strategy is if the Republicans just got their voters to start committing voter fraud so that they had an actual justification for all the extra voter fraud protections that they're putting in place that are just voter suppression. Yeah. And also, you know, on Newsmax, they're already saying these old white people are Antifa. So it'll it'll probably be ignored sure uh big meat is trending yeah um big meat what what's happening
Starting point is 00:07:54 what is this i mean the jokes write themselves yeah no this isn't a pete davidson story um it's about the meat packing industry baby jen saki the press secretary was asked about just soaring meat prices to like what the fuck is going on with joe bynum i can't even buy a burger these days because of the meat prices and she rightly pointed out the fact that yeah they're just it's like the greed on behalf of the industry and an analysis uh that some people are sharing shows that on these calls they're definitely raising prices but like to levels that are like not even justified by increased material costs they're just being like fuck it we're going for it fuck it like full greed right now make as
Starting point is 00:08:35 much money and you know she was like yeah it's just it's just their greed i'm also curious did anyone ask a follow-up question like wouldn't wouldn't it be wild if the administration did something to regulate the industry? I don't know. Just throwing that out there. Deregulation, Miles. Deregulation. That's it. Okay, you're right.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Deregulation. Sorry. It's the one-word answer to the last 60 years. Yep. We just need deregulation. Let these business guys make money already. Exactly. They call me big meat.
Starting point is 00:09:10 guys make money already they call me big meat i mean this is uh this is a big johnson t-shirt waiting to happen oh my god so i know you made the topical reference to pete davidson i went back to uh my child yeah to the old big johnson anyways bad country we got here. Yeah. All right. Let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. I'm Dr. Laurie Santos, host of the Happiness Lab podcast. As the U.S. elections approach, it can feel like we're angrier and more divided than ever. But in a new, hopeful season of my podcast, I'll share what the science really shows, that we're surprisingly more united than most people think.
Starting point is 00:09:53 We all know something is wrong in our culture, in our politics, and that we need to do better and that we can do better. With the help of Stanford psychologist Jamil Zaki. It's really tragic. If cynicism were a pill, it'd be a poison. We'll see that our fellow humans, even those we disagree with, are more generous than we assume. My assumption, my feeling, my hunch
Starting point is 00:10:14 is that a lot of us are actually looking for a way to disagree and still be in a relationship with each other. All that on the Happiness Lab. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. I'm Renee Stubbs, and I'm obsessed with sports, especially tennis. On the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcast, I get the chance to do what I love, talk about how tennis and other women's sports are growing and changing, and what the future holds. I think I just genuinely loved
Starting point is 00:10:52 what I did. I love this waking up, putting on my sports gear. I still believe it was so rewarding. Maybe you can relate to it as well. As a woman, I think it's a very powerful feeling to have a job at which you're able to see improvements in real time. On the show, we dissect everything going on in the game straight from the biggest players in the world. Plus, serve up recaps of all the matches and headlines in the game, including a rundown of the US Open every Monday. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcast every Monday

Starting point is 00:13:30 And we're back and Spider-Man is back in Cineplexes with No Way Home. It's, I think the AV Club is calling it a greatest hits album of a movie where like they get to pull you know
Starting point is 00:13:46 they're using the multiverse to pull in the bad guys from other spider-man movies maybe pulling in some good guys from other spider-man movies uh this is apparently novel to anybody who didn't see uh the best spider-man movie uh spider-verse yeah spider-verse which you know is did all this already i guess it didn't like bring in villains from past movies but uh you know used this concept to great effect and um yeah the reviews seem to be seem to indicate it is fine cool it's on uh is it streaming or it's going to be one of those movies first and all that movies first first and foremost miles this is a movie got it got it got it got it fortunately it comes in at a mere two hours and 28 minutes oh we love it great we love it folks we love it don't we folks we love it oh yeah absolutely We love it, folks. We love it, don't we, folks?
Starting point is 00:14:45 We love it. Oh, yeah, absolutely. When he's spiting around like that. Spiting. I don't know. Cool. I've fallen off so hard from these films, but let us know if it's cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:59 I don't know. Yeah. I haven't seen a single Tom Holland Spider-Man. No. I didn't see Homecoming, didn't see Far From Home, and probably won't see this one. Although my kids might be getting to the age where it's like they already love superheroes. Maybe I could show them. I showed my eldest Spider-Verse before he was ready,
Starting point is 00:15:23 and it gave him nightmares. He still hasn't recovered but yeah i mean like tom holland it's an l because look he's a tottenham supporter so see you later yeah and that's obviously he was embarrassed recently because he went up to killian mbappe uh i think at the like ballon d'or awards that happened recently and he's like you should sign for tottenham mate and he was like dude that's impossible no way like just for banter and everyone's like yes straight into our veins
Starting point is 00:15:51 yeah is Mbappe on your team no he plays for Paris Saint Germain and he's probably one of the most sought after forwards in the world but I think he's going to be going to Real Madrid but that won't be announced until later in the year oath keepers is trending um because why i don't know carl uh so dc attorney uh general carl a racing uh on tuesday sued the proud boys and
Starting point is 00:16:19 oath keepers over the january 6th attacks on congress uh and seeking to use a law written to cripple the kkk to exact stiff financial penalty penalties from far-right groups yeah so this is going to be interesting it's uh basically the civil suit is like okay so we're going to just destroy these people financially because that's what america is really good at not really good at the carceral traditional incarceration you know what though we can sue the fuck out of you and take all your money um and i think that's sort of the aim here um like in using this like the clan act of 1871 um which is saying like hey this is meant to protect us against vigilantes insurrectionists so we are looking for full restitution and recompense for all of washington um and it just names like all of their leaders
Starting point is 00:17:13 um like the damages are gonna be like unreal so yeah their whole thing is like yeah if it bankrupts them then fine and is this isn't a position that like changes over in 2022 or anything is it because this also feels like the sort of thing that could get uh flipped or thrown out or no because this is coming from unless the leadership within washington dc right goes republican the district of columbia is different yeah so i mean it is always like when you read articles about the oath keepers and the proud boys they are very like small fledgling organizations for the most part uh yeah you know until we find out that they're like funded by billionaires uh who are just like yeah no no this doesn't but you also make them uh you know give
Starting point is 00:18:03 them a designation of terrorist organizations. I don't know. Yeah, that could be nice. But I don't know, like if maybe through this and trying to find out like financially what they're capable of, it finds, you know, there's other lawsuits happening too. Or they're trying to really dig in to kind of like what their role is and where the vulnerabilities may be. That's going to be a hard one. I'm also curious. I'm like, is there even enough enough money do they even have enough money or you're just basically like we
Starting point is 00:18:29 don't care we just want to take everything from them right just all their computers they can't take all their cool patches well you guys can what i guess you don't have anything else we don't have anything else all right we're taking your patches and your cereal right um and finally student loan forgiveness is trending because uh they're not doing it they're not exciting oh yeah that's what's happening oh yay wait what oh yeah no not happening not happening uh many people think about all of the things that joe had said on his way to the White House, talking all this shit about the most important election of our lives. And progressive presidents and the FDR.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Oh, yeah. Meanwhile, you see, like, I mean, many people have rightly been like, look at all this stuff Biden's doing. That's basically the same as Trump. You know, like outside of just him not being a Republican it's like Saudi arms deal no problem let's do some more oil and gas things yep remain in
Starting point is 00:19:34 Mexico from Trump we'll keep that one too I like that lying to people sure let's do that but yeah here's the thing like this is it's funny to watch going through Twitter and seeing old boomer
Starting point is 00:19:49 Democrats vote blue no matter who. People being like, but you campaigned on this, Joe. What are you saying? This isn't going to help in the midterms or you're going to be a one-term president. Yeah, no shit. So, I don't know what kind of heat check this is uh aside from just terrible
Starting point is 00:20:08 governance so i don't know i don't know what's gonna happen here like i mean the the fact that they put a pause on those payments was just helped people tremendously and we have the fucking money to forgive this debt um but we'd rather you, prioritize just like wild tax cuts and then blame like the parliamentarian or Kyrsten Sinema for lack of everything. Right. And by the way, on this Spider-Man No Way Home, the reason that it's actually trending, Super Producer Becca Ramos was pointing out is because Zendaya wore a really cool dress to the premiere i'm like uh people are probably paying attention to the movie reviews uh they're like a movie they're like no zendaya zendaya sorry whichever
Starting point is 00:20:55 zendaya zendaya anyways yeah it's a cool dress and those are some of the things that are trending on this tuesday afternoon we are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the things that are trending on this Tuesday afternoon. We are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourself. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you later.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Bye. Bye. I'm Carrie Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese.
