Starting point is 00:01:52 Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of tail as old as zeit duty and trend the beast all right we did it there we go yeah you know who really did it johnny d johnny d big d avis rent a car get them while you can on the discord you are miles i am jack these are some of the things that are trending on this tuesday january 11th 2022 rachel maddow is trending yep uh what's going on what happens depends on depends on what version of the internet you're on um if if i think it's
Starting point is 00:02:45 better to first of all look this is what happened i'm a producer i think somehow madison cawthorne the uh the congressperson from north carolina who's just a pile of shit uh with the worst opinions on earth about everything um got somehow saw an email that was from a producer at maddow where they were discussing him potentially being on the show to like talk about you know his hand in the insurrection and maybe that might in you know invalidate his ability to run for office um and they voiced concern worry over having him on because he is like he's in the same category as your marjorie taylor green or bobert gates you know that that whole thing so he took that as spun then like yo they're shook man they don't want they don't want
Starting point is 00:03:32 your boy maddie kaw on the fucking maddow show just fucking pwning her uh because he thinks it's like a debate style thing uh kind of questioning her educational background now look did he really like straight up ask like question her educational background now look did he really like straight up ask like question her educational background there is i gotta find this tweet there's something about like your wits or something it's not like you know uh let me see she can't stand stand up to my own my my battle of wits my sharp sharp as attack exactly and i mean look it's it's a mere speculation of just being like yo she's terrified or whatever and many people have pointed the fact it's like sir now look you no shade to people who drop out of school because you do what you got to do but
Starting point is 00:04:20 if you're gonna start talking about like measurable things like calling out people's education you may want to at least enter that fight with some training and so you can at least point to a useless piece of paper on your wall to say yeah i did that thing also but you didn't and also she's a fucking road scholar uh i don't know if that the terror is necessarily that you are going to best her in a debate. Although many people on the right are like, being like, yo, she can't handle it,
Starting point is 00:04:49 dude. She can't fucking handle the conservative talking points as Lauren Bovert said. Right. I mean, I would guess that there are plenty of people who didn't graduate from high school who could own a, many a road scholar in a like tv debate for sure like um i don't think road scholar makes you necessarily good tv and no no but i mean if you're if you're narrowly gonna just talk about edge whatever
Starting point is 00:05:19 education means in the form of like measuring your intelligence like don't just yeah yeah just say she's a fucking lib i'm more interested in uh you know he he is going through the end of his marriage after eight months uh and the the story of how he met his wife the person who introduced him to his wife sounds a lot like he is being approached by a Russian intelligence operative. Like he was overseas and in a Russian casino and was like approached by somebody he didn't know. And like that somehow led to him getting invited to this CrossFit competition in Florida where he ended up meeting his wife. But the CrossFit competition, according to him, was actually made up and was just a setup so he could meet his wife. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Which feels like not a thing that typically happens unless you are part of an intelligence agency. Yeah. you are like part of an intelligence agency yeah like faking a a large event in order to introduce a powerful person to a romantic partner seems i don't know he the way he tells the story it seems like he thinks that's normal um and like he has just sort of digested it as an adorable thing they did because they were like such a perfect fit. I don't know, man. It's an interesting thing because a lot of people point to the fact that in 2009, like Russia actually banned casinos. So for you to do that, it's a it's a it's a smoky operation at best. Right.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Right. Gangster shit. It's not it's you're not going to Harrah's because they deaded that in 2009. a smoky operation at best. Gangster shit. You're not going to Harrah's because they deaded that in 2009. It is interesting where you're like, hey man, come over to St. Petersburg. My name's Todd. I was in the army.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Hey man, you should come to this fake CrossFit tournament. I'm not really into CrossFit. No, you gotta come, man. It's gonna be sick. It's in Miami, bro. You scared? No, man, I ain't scared. All right, jokes on you.
Starting point is 00:07:29 I just wanted to meet this lady who I wanted to set you up with, and you'll get married and divorced after eight months. I don't know. I mean, that also sounds like some shitty marriage shit also. Right, right. Some dude introduced you to someone at a fake car like yo there's some red flags uh you know plant or not to be like what the fuck are you what is this yeah uh anyways mad al maddis on showdown for the ages also like i can't imagine two people i want to see debate
Starting point is 00:08:01 less exactly you know like he's not gonna say anything interesting she's not gonna say anything i'm not interested in yeah i'm not interested in seeing her debate at all i'd right i'd like someone who's maybe has a slicker mouth you know just gonna we'll fight fire with fire but anyway it doesn't matter because those are only for the debate obsessed. Yeah, yeah. Maya Angelou is trending. Oh, no. What happened? Fuck. The U.S. has begun
Starting point is 00:08:35 shipping quarters featuring her image. They're the first in a series of quarters honoring American women that runs through 2025. Wow. This makes her the first black woman on a u.s quarter wow how about putting how about putting some uh non-white guys on the bills yeah you know come on what about that come on man wasn't that gonna be a thing with uh come on man wasn't that gonna be a thing with uh harry tubman on the 20 yeah and then we just they're like you know what get fucking the modern american terrorist andrew jackson on there keep
Starting point is 00:09:15 him there yeah cool people don't know the trail of tears anyway they're gonna stop teaching it pretty soon and andrew jackson's gonna be like the most moderate politician we've seen in that era or something yeah i could definitely see a future of like american education if you know what what's his name has his way steve bannon and his movement like takeover where they're just like only people you need to know from history or the presidents on the money and uh here's how much they kicked ass right um it's like one yeah it's definitely like one of those yeah you can i don't know it's just a very slippery slope um but it feels like those things where like i hear kids talking about hip-hop and like their hip-hop consciousness begins in like 2005 and they're like really getting in the
Starting point is 00:10:06 nitty-gritty and then like they'll say stuff they're like man i don't know biggie's like overrated and you're like what the fuck are you talking about child that's when eminem invented rap that's when right exactly do like lil xan has fucking bars dude fuck me uh we're pretty soon like we're gonna have to be hearing takes from history, like from younger people being like, honestly, like the Northern War of Aggression, like really, like kind of like we're feeling the reverberations of that today. Right. Straight up. Well, speaking of old school takes on hip hop. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:42 There's this image that's kind of making the rounds uh it is cool mo d sort of early rapper um back in the day when rap was not it's not my favorite era rap it sounds a little nursery rhymey to me but yeah but you know there was the early days yeah we were still forming the diamond that is-hop he uh made a report card for rappers um yeah and you know he's got some spicy takes on here um some really smart ones too what year is this from too that was the question i was just about to try and figure it out it was in the 90s ah 1999 like december 31st of 1999 okay so that explains some things uh for instance naz instead of having an a plus has a b because i guess like that was after he had dropped like his
Starting point is 00:11:34 i mean it was written is out at that point no it was written was out for sure but i i'm assuming he is like taking into account like what they're releasing currently right i guess because you're gonna have ilmatic then it was written oh you know what it was i am yeah it was right after i it was the year that i am came out and nashradam did nashradamus also come out that year too yeah i think so so he had yeah he dropped because that was when we realized oh he's in a bad record contract and he's just trying to drop as many albums as possible right because then godson he came back okay i see that and still matic i mean yeah that was yeah he was definitely recovering so he gets to be what else i mean the other pretty surprising one is Jay-Z is at a B
Starting point is 00:12:25 well also what's the scale what he's scoring on right? the categories so we got vocabulary, we got articulation we got creativity, we got originality we got versatility, we got voice we got records we got stage presence
Starting point is 00:12:41 we got sticking to themes and innovating rhythms i mean those are great great categories like j and he's pretty you know jay-z has a 10 on records because he was dropping great records and that yeah he fucked he got his lowest score came for stage presence i don't disagree jay-z is not the most dynamic performer in person. Right. So, like,
Starting point is 00:13:09 a six is a little harsh. I mean, obviously, DMX gets a 10 for stage presence. Right. I mean, we could honestly do a two-hour podcast
Starting point is 00:13:16 about this. It's very interesting. Because I'm also stuck in 1999. Right. So, I'm like remembering everything very vividly.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I'm like, okay, well, Mr. Threaten Nostradamus and I Am came out. Called most stuff right so i'm like remembering everything very good like okay well mr that's right nashadamas and um i am came out called my stuff most death um yeah little a couple a couple errors here corrupt young goddy is spelled like the word like corrupt uh like corrupt police um not i love his a plus for lauren hill and biggie They're the only A pluses on the... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:47 And then Tupac gets an A. My most questionable A has to be Tretch from Naughty by Nature. Like, for sure, his delivery was unique, and he was good at kind of... I think, yeah. It's like all New Yorkers fuck with Tretch though you know especially rappers like I feel like Tretch is like a rapper's rapper like I'm certainly not
Starting point is 00:14:10 checking for Tretch but I've one thing I've consistently I feel like I hear from other rappers is like they fuck with Tretch and maybe that's where it is I'm like I'm okay I mean here we feel me flow now holly if you hear me like okay there's that.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Buster Rhymes also got an A, though. I think that's correct. Stage presence. Buster Rhymes, you mean? Sorry. Buster. Yeah, or Buster. Buster Keaton, actually, is what he's talking about.
Starting point is 00:14:40 Raekwon, B+, Common, B+, Raz Kaz, B+. Mace got a C+. I i mean let's be real the lowest scores on here are master p and mace and too short that's fucked up too short as a performance artist okay master p come on now he's i guess that's the problem is like we have the we have the long view of history to look at these and be like, I don't know. But what, I guess around here you got make them say, uh, and like, was it with the last, the postman? Was that that album that he had come out that year?
Starting point is 00:15:14 I don't know. All I know when I lived in Kentucky, Master P was the only rapper that mattered to most of the people I went to school with. Oh no, it was the last dawn came out 98 yeah so i think that was the closest album to that one and yeah i i feel you like the last dawn if you weren't really fucking with because ghetto d was the one that had me i'm saying but that was out already by this point yeah yeah i guess but you know i don't know if people were hating on that shit too because that's when the south was coming up and people were like right like outcast isn't
Starting point is 00:15:49 on here even though they were yeah probably the most important people making rap music at that time with the possible exception of lauren hill even though she wasn't actively making but she's right i mean not that he really needs to be but i'm curious what he thought of why clef if he's like well lauren is against a 97 out of 100 what does why clef get i mean this is right after uh a quemini and he doesn't have outcast on here yeah i wonder if that's what back well because remember back then everyone's like man five mics i mean actually no five mics still meant something in the source back then oh yeah yeah no outcast was like the that's a conspicuous omission for sure yeah um unless i'm just missing it or he misspelled it but because yeah because
Starting point is 00:16:36 how many west coasters we have here we've got snoop corrupt mac 10 mac 10 too short cube Mac 10. Mac 10, Too Short, Cube. But they're not, like, scoring at the top of the list, you know? Yeah. I mean, Kumo D was a New York rapper, right? Yeah. So, I mean, it's a very specific take on hip-hop, but nonetheless, very interesting. I'd love to see these from every uh every rapper give us your give us your scorecard but add outcast uh add um a couple more people yeah 1999 i'm just actually
Starting point is 00:17:16 when i'm thinking about innovating rhythms like beats okay who gets a 10 dmx does okay i get it because there's a lot of like early swizz beats stuff Lauryn Hill makes sense who had really great production Busta yes he also gets I feel like 10 for the beats Method Man gets 10 Tretch gets 10 yeah that's questionable like I mean
Starting point is 00:17:37 who was producing their albums I forget I mean Method Man makes sense because that was RZA that was like you know biggie makes sense uh look we're we're doing an impossible task by trying to enter the mind of cool modi in 1999 i understand what these all mean uh many academics have tried and failed where we're uh seriously yeah yeah uh all right let's take a quick break. Uh, we will be right back. I'm Jess Casavetto,
Starting point is 00:18:14 executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, dancing for the devil, the seven M Tik TOK cult. And I'm Cleo gray, former member of seven M films and Shekinah church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Girl, yes. Each week we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer,
Starting point is 00:19:43 we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take?
Starting point is 00:19:57 Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career. Without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life.
Starting point is 00:20:20 It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120.
Starting point is 00:20:36 She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything?
Starting point is 00:20:51 You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up.
Starting point is 00:21:19 In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila, caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning. In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy
Starting point is 00:22:02 theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And Reese Witherspoon so this is uh she said on twitter in the parentheses near and parentheses future every person will have a parallel digital identity avatars crypto wallets digital goods will be the norm are you planning for this she is about to sell crypto to her like middle-aged fans yep i feel like that
Starting point is 00:22:47 has to be it right i mean maybe there's an explanation already but like what is this exactly reese what are you saying here are you announcing something are you just positing just i'd like just a thought experiment and then if you are you prepared for the digital future i don't know man most people aren't prepared for fucking 10 minutes from now like i would be shocked if like she's at some similar dinner parties with like mark zuckerberg or whatever oh you know oh fuck off right just i tried out the meta stuff it's it's really neat you're like i'm and i wonder if they're i think of like that metaverse thing right because apple
Starting point is 00:23:27 has come out unequivocally they're like we're not fucking with the metaverse we don't see our a like our headset is being remotely anything like what mark zuckerberg thinks we're like you're gonna spend all day with this thing on like we see it for very specific use throughout the day not an all-day thing and the idea almost seems like what rich people think what poor people need to not get all angry about being poor where it's like offer them a metaverse because they won't actually be able to own a jaguar you know whatever fucking luxury item but they can in the metaverse because i don't see i don't know i don't know i don't know why all these people are bigging up this whole shit i don't know i mean once once you can like walk around in there and
Starting point is 00:24:12 like they have that full body like thing like gaming's gonna be super fun in there gaming will be fun no doubt but it's not gonna be how migrating my life store yeah yeah like it has to actually compete with what my senses and brain are able to give me as a sensation you know what i mean like versus i mean i think it's gonna be big but i don't know about all this like judgy like are you planning for it because you should be right like this this tweet has the tone of a fucking insurance commercial. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:51 And that's why I'm curious what people are even saying in the mentions, being like, what does this mean? Is there something I should buy? I mean, you're just leaving us hanging here. I'm already taking all my financial planning advice from Matt Damon commercials. Yeah, exactly. So now Reese Witherspoonpoon's gonna tell me what i should be doing with my wallet robert evans responded to reese witherspoon and said we had
Starting point is 00:25:11 digital avatars when i was 12 they were free and didn't burn down the rainforest she's like oh shit interesting yeah they're just haters they're just haters right honey they're just haters like talking to her like doesn't burn down a rainforest no it just generates so much carbon that we might as well forget it fuck then honey this is a hater right like this person robert evans like they're a hater right who's like they're drinking haterade right yo ryan philippe versus robert evans oh shit pay-per-view fight of the oh my god let's go uh in brooklyn we are uh counting on children to do our uh activism for us yeah again yeah some kids have uh walked out uh in protest of the in-class instruction at brooklyn tech yeah they're just all saying like why are we doing this omicron is taking over everywhere and we have to all pack into rooms what is this
Starting point is 00:26:14 and they just walked out again like we're saying we're it's we're we're having we're at this point now where they're seeing activists be made out of people who are merely just being like i'm not doing this shit yeah like y'all must be you got me fucked up if you could if you think i'm gonna put myself at risk or these kids at risk and then uh the united ceo uh has said that the vaccine mandate appears to have ended uh the weekly deaths of employees from covid that the company has gone eight straight weeks with zero covid related deaths among our vaccinated employees. This is just, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:49 I do feel like there is now a gravitational weight to the right wing. Take a sphere. Like they used to be like during Obama administration, it was like, you know, what, what is Bill O'Reilly saying? What,
Starting point is 00:27:04 what's fox news saying but now like we pay attention to just like the absolutely wild dumb shit that is being said by like damn bongino and shit like that and then the people who say basic facts like this i feel like just get sort of flushed out of people's feeds um so i don't know it's just good to see like uh you know a world where logic still exists uh like one story at least right it's funny like it it's something we know is obvious but he sounds like fucking spock when he says it right it's like it seems we've gone eight straight weeks with zero covid related deaths among our vaccinated employees jim damn that's okay yeah great then now think of now what will happen again this is the other
Starting point is 00:27:58 thing like we talked about yesterday the flight attendants like please make people fucking have to be vaccinated to fly on a plane because i feel like a lot mostly unruly people are not masking up and also just for people's safety um i don't know where he'd land on that but hey at least your at least your employees aren't passing away needlessly yeah it just seems like that that's such a straightforward uh like i don't know it feels it feels like the administration and the straightforward, uh, like, I don't know. It feels, it feels like the administration and the CDC and like Fauci have left things like this behind where they're just like, Hey,
Starting point is 00:28:32 all these people got vaccinated and they didn't die. Like, and before they got vaccinated, they were dying. Like, just like very straightforward, like examples that like you can use to tell stories to people. Like,
Starting point is 00:28:44 I don't know, maybe they're trying and it's just not getting any traction but then if it's not getting any traction it's like that's a that's a problem yeah um but that's what uh brian just uh linked this story from the new york post the headline is rolls royce boss says covet deaths were good for business hell yeah dude baller that's ball straight baller shit and all he's saying is like yeah man people are fucking scared to dying so they were like buying those cars because they didn't want to like miss out on driving a rolls royce nice cool that's a they should make that
Starting point is 00:29:16 their ad campaign this guy looks like a fucking super villain like he looks like chris hansen mixed with richard branson or something yeah branson hansen and aikman all in one uh but yeah his name is torsten muller odvos so hell yeah dude yeah like it's so great i heard he pulled himself up by his bootstraps and you know self-made man dude pulled himself up by his fantastic bootstraps right into a rolls royce torsten yeah just a scrappy kid named torsten all right well those are some of the things that are trending on this tuesday january 11th uh we are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show until then be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine.
Starting point is 00:30:07 Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jermaine Jackson-Gadsden.
