We are still on vacation, but we wanted to drop in some predicciones for the year 2021. Here, while you guys are back at it again, back at the grind. First Monday back at work. I'm Jack. That is Miles Gray.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And we are thrilled to be joined by super producer Anna Hosnier. And I'm Jack. Hey. And you're Jack. And I'm Jack. Welcome. And I'm Jack. All right. So this is, we're Hey! And you're Jack. And I'm Jack. Welcome. And I'm Jack.
Starting point is 00:03:25 All right. So this is, we're each going to make a couple of predictions. And for the coming year, years past, you don't have to go back and listen. But last year, I predicted a global pandemic and that Trump would lose to Joe Biden in the election. I forget what you guys' predictions were, but yeah. So I can see into the future. Okay, so what do you got for us now, Podstradamus? I'll leave it up to you guys. I'll leave it up to you guys to kick us off.
Starting point is 00:04:00 I'm going to take up the good predictions, you know what I mean? See what you guys got, and then we'll cross-reference that with what will happen. It's like I don't want to give away the answer before the question is asked. Okay. I don't know what's there. Miles, what's your prediction? My first prediction is that 2021 will be the year of intensifying third-party talk on the left or the right. I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:04:21 That's the weird part about this i'm not sure if what you know depending on what happens in georgia uh so actually that would be technically tomorrow based on when this comes out uh on the what happens there if there's talk of trumpers trying to do their own like mega fascist party because they don't like the gop because it's not racist enough for them or if progressives uh and like they're like the GOP because it's not racist enough for them, or if progressives and the left wing of the Democratic Party are like, the thing that we've been telling leaders all the time to help cure the ills as we see them, they're not doing. And they're just doing things like telling the corporations like, don't worry, we're not going to legislate against you. That's just some malarkey
Starting point is 00:05:02 that other people are talking. I would never do anything to the corporations so i have a like you know you can feel you can feel it in the air um whether that's just like the sort of exasperation of the left and progressives when looking at some of the things that uh the biden administration is up to um or again on the on the right because they've just basically been off-ramp as i like to say the gop hasn't stopped the steal um yeah i i could see i mean if one side like one kind of further uh to the right or left uh branch of the of the party kind of breaks off I could see that being an excuse or an opportunity for the other to do the same
Starting point is 00:05:50 right if they you know if you see that the Republicans wildest 20% breaks off to form the MAGA party then like that there's greater opportunity for the more,
Starting point is 00:06:06 the actually progressive part of the democratic party to break off. Yeah. I just, I think both parties know the second that happens, it's an, it's a, it's a wrap like trying to wrangle that is going, I mean,
Starting point is 00:06:18 cause we've never really had that in this country, like truly, uh, like at least in the modern era where we're like, Hmm, what's, who's it gonna be what are the what what what do we do now because the power used to be just concentrated in two
Starting point is 00:06:30 two sides and what happens if we begin doing that other thing but i don't know i'm also i think that's that's all along the lines with my overall prediction that i just know that uh i don't i don't think the the democrats are are clear in terms of not hearing any complaints coming from people that were voting for them either. Right. Which is a very down the middle take. But I think the third party, I'm hoping that that talk intensifies because we're finding ourselves at a place where it's sort of like, well, what you're saying is nice, but that's too extreme for the donor class. So we're not going to entertain it. is nice but that's too extreme for the donor class so we're not gonna we're not gonna entertain it and that's the thing that i'm hoping we'll be able to begin to really you know take a look at and try
Starting point is 00:07:10 to overcome because that's a source of a lot of gridlock when we're putting profits over people yeah totally i mean i have one that's kind of related that's just like the you know the can't we just go back to sleep contingent will be more and more vocal like there's going to be a lot of awkward and annoying conversations with people who are you know telling us what is practical and possible based on just some bullshit that they've been told by the mainstream media and the establishment because and haven't like spent the time looking into the underlying assumptions so um yeah yeah i think that's a lot of hey trump's not president anymore you can stop with this stuff settled down man no i can't can't stop won't stop yeah um super producer anna hosnier uh
Starting point is 00:08:00 actually let's take a quick break and we'll be right back with your prediction for 2021. Okay. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre. It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha Libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance.
Starting point is 00:08:31 It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of lucha libre and a wwe superstar join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport
Starting point is 00:08:53 from its inception in the united states to how it became a global symbol of mexican culture we'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring this is lucha libre behind the mask listen to lucha libre behind the mask as part is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. In 1982, Atari players had one thing on their minds, Sword Quest. This wasn't just a new game. Atari promised 150 grand in prizes to four finalists. But the prizes disappeared. And what started as a video game promotion became one of the most controversial moments
Starting point is 00:09:33 in 80s pop culture. I just don't believe they exist. I mean, my reaction, shock and awe. That sword was amazing. It was so beautiful. I'm Jamie Loftus. Join me this spring for The Legend of Sword Quest, a podcast about the fall of Atari and the disappearing Sword Quest prizes.
Starting point is 00:09:51 We'll follow the quest for lost treasure across four decades. It's almost like a metaphor for the industry and Atari itself in a way. Listen to The Legend of Sword Quest on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Bruce Bozzi. On my podcast, Table for Two, we have unforgettable lunch after unforgettable lunch with the best guest you could possibly ask for. People like Matt Bomer. Thank you for that introduction.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I'm going to slip you a couple of 20s under the table for that. Emma Roberts. When it came into my email inbox, I was like, okay, I know I'm going to love this so much that I don't even want to read it. Because if I can't be in it, I'm going to be bummed. And Colin Jost. You know, your wife was the first guest on Table for Two. It's come full circle. As long as I do better than her, I'm happy. Table for Two is a bit different from other interview shows.
Starting point is 00:10:47 We sit down at a great restaurant for a meal, maybe a glass of rosé, and the stories start flowing. Our second season is airing right now, so you can catch up on our conversations that are intimate, surprising, and often hilarious. Listen to Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less
Starting point is 00:11:25 than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And I believe I was about to share my prediction. Anna Hosnier, our oracle, our seer.
Starting point is 00:12:22 What is going to happen in the year 2021? I have a few thoughts. I do think we will... Now, this is more of a hope that we will not drive as much, I think, in general. I think for the last year, we've become so accustomed to being on our lonesome.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I do think it will take a while to get out of that. I think driving will slow down significantly. And if so, I mean, the unfortunate thing is maybe Ubers and Lyfts may go up. I don't know. I'm really stuck on the driving thing because it's so hard for me to even remember when I drove last. And I think that's going to continue for a while, even after vaccinations and we all slowly start returning back to daily life. I do think travel will still kind of lessen, if you will. There will still be some weirdness out there. Homebodying to get over. some weirdness out there. Homebodying to get over.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I feel like a lot of jobs we've learned can be done from home. I do feel like there's going to be some residual homebodyness, as you said, Miles, left over in the workforce, for sure. Yeah. And you'd think with the like telecommuting and stuff like that, like a business would be like, it's a big expense. I don't have anymore is physical office space. And yet all my,
Starting point is 00:13:52 my business is operating. Huh? Cause it seems like the more like, uh, sort of head of the wave companies are sort of like took that as a moment to be like, you know what? We actually realized we don't need a centralized physical location for us to operate like this um and i think we're just so used to
Starting point is 00:14:08 like some version of a factory or going into clock in and clock out uh that maybe that will i certainly hope that that happens yeah less pollution i mean and that is something that we we should share with the listeners that when we used to go to work in the same office i would sit at the entrance with a big giant red stamp and uh make you guys put a put a time card down um yep yeah and it was weird because the time card machine didn't really work it wasn't operational you just like you just like to see someone put a thing in and hear the sound yeah and that was about it. I've saved a lot of money not bribing you every day when I came in late.
Starting point is 00:14:49 That's true. You always hand them a big-ass manila envelope. I also feel like we might see... I'm going to be a worse driver for sure once I start driving again. I'm going to be bad. It is an interesting thing interesting i try and drive like once a week because i sometimes go now when i was driving recently i'll go into autopilot and then that will scare me for a second of like whoa whoa you haven't been driving enough to just so casual turn the wheel turn the wheel well just like my mind starts to drift and i'm you know because i'm
Starting point is 00:15:21 it goes back to like when i was driving every day but then I freak myself out because I'm like whoa like you've had too much time off to just be autopiloting so casually like you actually do need to focus a little because you haven't you barely go out in the streets now yeah for sure why do you have any pop culture your head on a swivel keep your head on a swivel out there, guys. That's my prediction for you. Yeah, well, I think movies are going to make a comeback this year. I talk a lot about the power of movies to control our cultural imagination based on the power of the medium sitting in a dark room consuming uninterrupted just content um and then the feel like there's a i do feel like there's a higher level of artistry that isn't maybe um
Starting point is 00:16:13 as evident to us like when we're watching quote unquote prestige television but like when you look at the shows like some of the top shows of the year, like Ratched, Space Force, Lock and Key, Outer Banks, Never Have I Ever, I'm sure there are some movies that would have hit the top 10 that wouldn't be super quality. But I don't know. That seems slightly diminished in terms of, or at least noticeable compared to like the level of quality you're getting even with like a genre movie so right um i could see you know now that we're going to have movies streaming available to us uh via hbo max or at least a lot of movies probably more movies
Starting point is 00:17:00 than well everybody will have time to watch uh I do feel like people are going to start watching movies again. Movie stars are coming back. Nope. A.K.A. Timothy Chalamet. I do think it will actually be very nice to get away from our phones. I find my phone so deeply annoying because it's so accessible at all times. I feel like there's no time that I can truly just be like, I have to be away
Starting point is 00:17:25 from my phone like a movie and do you think do you think movies will yes because if you're in a movie theater like i actively know the rules i can't pull out my phone but like when i'm at home all day and just working like you can be talking to me right now i have perfected scrolling instagram while making eye contact with you. It's absurd. Like what you. Yeah. Eye independence you've developed is truly something else.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Like I can literally have my phone right below the screen and you think I'm looking at you. It's. That's not good. But you are looking at us like when I was saying with your right eye and then your left eye is scrolling. It's like, hold on. You could see it. I'm like, that's a good trick.
Starting point is 00:18:04 But it is like i've become that i don't like that like i want to have i don't want to be able to look at my phone at all times because i'm at home and there's no consequences of me clearly not paying attention right and that sucks i don't like that's that's like a hopeful prediction i have is the you know pendulum hopefully swinging the other way with social media because i in like whether it was the pandemic or even people seeing that uh one documentary the social dilemma like more and more at least people are talking about social media as like a dimension of self uh self care or like what we do to ourselves by engaging with it too much and i'm the same way like where
Starting point is 00:18:42 i i really don't like sometimes that i will my heart rate could get elevated when i'm looking at an app icon and being like do i go in here right now do i go in that room where all the screams are coming out but do you i don't think so do you also feel like it doesn't do it for you anymore yeah because i feel that way it only causes pain i've i started on instagram in 2009 i believe right when the start and i've been instagramming since and it doesn't hit the same anymore i don't get that same high i don't even the likes i'm like fuck off like i don't know you wouldn't like that asshole yeah like i'm not yeah you text me you're like fuck off like i don't know you wouldn't like that asshole like i'm not yeah you text me you're like way to like that bullshit yeah it's like you posted it yeah like
Starting point is 00:19:30 nothing gets like it's like the drug you've taken in your tolerance has built to a point where it's just pointless at this that's how instagram scrolling feels to me like i don't and it doesn't work that's good you're part way there you're acknowledging that you're now engaging in this thing that no longer does the same thing for you so therefore maybe put it right but then at the same time i continue to do it because there's like just nothing else to do like i'm just non-stop doing it even though it doesn't hit i feel like i'm in like a time loop of like madness in a way where i'm just like why do i keep opening this app? I don't even care. Half of you are muted. I don't even know what I'm following anymore.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Sorry. No offense, everybody. You're all great. I do wonder what that will look like. Would it just be diminished use or are we talking about actually the government passing some sort of legislation? I think it's both. Obviously, they have a problem to tackle there and i think people are going to self-regulate however they want to but like to anna's how anna's describing it how you're describing how i'm talking about it like i've fully crossed over to the point where i'm like i don't like i like doing some stuff on here but it's definitely not the thing that was always like oh now i see it it looks a
Starting point is 00:20:46 little bit uglier to me and like there's i don't know there's a cynicism about like looking at these apps and like what it's doing what it's contributing what it could be doing to me and what i think my own interests are and i think that's the the weird part that i also want to kind of distance myself from but sorry just going back to uh the the movies thing anna will you not watch will you not like uh have your phone out when you're watching something at at home like a movie i will try to but then i'll somehow like someone will text me or something my screen will just light up like the social dilemma where they're like let's send her this and i'm like hi um and then i'll just like look at my phone for a second and then i'll be like god what am i doing and then i'll put it back down again
Starting point is 00:21:29 but like i want to be able to sit where i don't i don't touch my phone at all like i'm pretty good at not looking at my phone when i'm watching movie but sometimes i do i will pick it up and like start scrolling and then catch myself and be like no like when i'm in a dark room and surround like i know like if i don't want to it's almost like a respect thing like yeah sure i could respect my boyfriend but whatever like he's you know whatever he's sitting there who cares but like i being in a dark room there's just rules like i need a place with structure and rules to literally have some person be like put your phone away and maybe like you know like right yeah, I don't have that.
Starting point is 00:22:06 I have to do it to myself, and it's easier... So you're like a fascist movie theater. You need something like that. Yeah, I want to be, like, shocked by my seat if I pick up my phone. Right. I have so much more respect for strangers than I do for myself or anybody.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Yeah. I just need that structure, if you will. Yeah, so the movies that are dropping, Matrix 4, Dune, like, i feel like when i watch those movies wonder woman 1984 maybe not quite as much but like i i feel like when i watch those movies i won't i won't have my phone out whereas when i'm watching the crown like part of the attraction of watching it is that i can answer emails and yeah dual purpose yeah and just like not miss anything um it's weird i mean like there are some studies talking about that about how like splitting our attention like that is like it's it's really good it's like a bad habit but yeah
Starting point is 00:22:58 also a way to burn yourself out when you're like like my mind can do it and you're like it's better when you just focus on one thing at a time disagree agree to disagree let's take a quick i mean yeah tell that to my mom who would walk in my room when i was doing homework i had the simpsons on a radio i'm browsing some shit on a computer and i'm on the phone and i'm like she's like what are you doing fool like it's chaos in here i'm like i'm writing'm writing a paper. Right. It's what I need. All right. Let's take another quick break and we'll come back with our final predictions
Starting point is 00:23:31 of 2021.

On my podcast, Table for Two, we have unforgettable lunch after unforgettable lunch with the best guest you could possibly ask for. People like David Duchovny.
Starting point is 00:25:47 You know, New Yorkers have a reputation of being very tough, but it's not. It's not that way at all. They're very accepting. Jeff Goldblum. Are you saying secret fries? Secret fries. What? That's what you're saying?
Starting point is 00:25:58 Yeah. And Kristen Wiig. I just became so aware that I'm such a loud chewer. My husband's just like, sometimes I'll be eating and he'll just be looking at me. I'm like, I'm just eating. Like, I don't know how else to chew. Table for Two is a bit different from other interview shows. We sit down at a great restaurant for a meal and the stories start flowing.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Our second season is airing right now, so you can catch up on our conversations that are intimate, surprising, and often hilarious. Starting point is 00:27:16 revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is is rip current available now with new episodes every thursday listen on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts And we're back, and we're making our predictions for 2021. Sounds like you're counting. 20, 21, 22. Woo! I think this is it for me, is my prediction. This is going to be the last episode I record.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Clearly. Okay. It's been a great run, huh? Yeah. Nice knowing you guys. We just got to get to 1,000 episodes. What? Then we can just hang it up.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Yeah. Oh, brother. And we'll take off into the zeit sunset. I think there's going to be versions of vaccine virus confusion like we're not anticipating i think it's going to be the the whole who has a vaccine who's been vaccinated who actually gives a shit about that and like who is just like yeah i've been vaccinated i i think that's just going to be a mess like i think we're going to need to like find a way to signify that in some way whether it be like a bracelet like in the movie contagion or you know but then that is but then there's gonna be fake bracelets you know what i mean
Starting point is 00:28:51 yeah i fake bracelets on deck i was thinking like kind of like a barcode tattooed on our foreheads oh my god oh yeah or the back you had like the Hitman game series. And you go like, yeah, scan me bro, I've been Vax-ied. And we shorten it to Vax-ied. Yeah. Yeah, I like that. Vax-ied. I've been watching my boyfriend play Cyberpunk.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Now I'm all like really into it. Put a little Vax-ied oil on it. I'm really into like kind of like really aesthetically like really futuristic sort of like cyberpunk-punk vibes now okay that's gonna be you you're coming at us from the year 2077 i'm gonna have laser eyes if possible that's your prediction for this year laser no no no that's that hit me back up in when we do this in 2043 okay um yep no actually i do have a prediction which um is this the show for it
Starting point is 00:29:48 yes this is the episode where i do think that sort of like sex worker figures will become just as prominent and and because of like only fans and sites like that they'll become as prominent as certain celebrities like i think we will become more like that they'll become as prominent as certain celebrities like i'll think we will become more um like they'll become more like sex positive yeah we'll become more sex positive and um like they they will become more like mainstream like people will know their names you know and i think like i'm learning a lot about it because of only fans i'm like oh yeah and you know she you And she really brings in the money. She does this.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And it almost becomes like I'm talking about it so neutrally because it's not that big a deal to make money on OnlyFans. It just is what it is. You do what you got to do. And I do hope. It's, again, more of a hope than a prediction that these people are becoming more mainstream. And it's more accepted, widely accepted as a way to make money and live your life right well that's funny because then that's sort of like the new york post got a lot of shit because they did this weird story exposing like a new york city paramedic
Starting point is 00:30:58 they're like she's like a part-time sex worker and it's someone it's this paramedic who has only fans to pay bills jesus what's the fuck and like this is where it all just you know i think that's that's another cultural uh point that i think hopefully we can make a an improvement for the better for i mean it's gonna give ben shapiro lots of material uh and who are these women and why are they empowered to do what they want with their bodies i i for one believe that is actually very dangerous very dangerous what's next joe biden will be president i hope not uh but that's where we are uh the other i think though my prediction is jake paul is gonna be the new donald trump what on like like generationally
Starting point is 00:31:46 paul is gonna be the new donald trump what on like like generationally now you're going big i love it i'm well look this man is building a career on fighting black people like physically fighting black people yeah he did it with ksi he did it with uh nate robinson he's gonna fight floyd mayweather like he's he's created these because i look at the comments and there are people who like yeah get them and they're i think looking into a little bit differently than a boxing match like uh yeah might be a little allegorical for some of the viewers and there is i don't know there's just uh just like with his confidence and things like that and he's just like i'm gonna do this i'm gonna do that i care. Like, and he's so out of touch. He thinks 98% of the news isn't real.
Starting point is 00:32:28 He feel there's something about it that, I mean, it could, it could completely flame out, but he seems to have a lot of people's attention and he's, he doesn't have a good, uh, place,
Starting point is 00:32:38 uh, he's coming from. So I'm curious to see where that ends up, like given where we're at as a country and like what we're calling you know entertainment quote unquote he should uh he should fight his parents because this sucks i hate him man it's gonna be i like i don't i don't even i'm not even gonna try to predict where the racist right wing uh you know terror movement goes because it's just too scary and depressing but uh guessing not in a good direction um based on what they're specifically telling us
Starting point is 00:33:17 they're gonna do um yeah well shit on that note any other predictions predicties uh oh i think joe bynum is gonna give us one of the most hilarious gaffes of all time i mean well that's i just but it's gonna be like good like it's gonna be like a delda seam level like where we're like oh i was hoping he bends over and then no no he sneezes and farts at the same time that would be dope have you ever done that i've done it i've done that i did it one time in sixth grade i'll never forget oh shit you never forget your first sneeze and fart at the same time you'll never forget that when i try that i'm gonna eat a lot of shrimp and look at the sun well i don't know it was just so random it happened and it shook me because i was like did i of shrimp and look at the sun. Well, I don't know. It was just so random. It happened and it shook me because I was like, did I just fart ants knees at the same time?
Starting point is 00:34:08 Oh, like a dog when they fart? Like, huh? Yeah. It catches you off guard because it happens at the exact same moment. And you're like, now that is synchronous. That's when you do the thing. Now that's what I call living. That's synergy.
Starting point is 00:34:20 That's synergy. And you never forget it. So I do hope Biden gets to experience one of those on camera. I mean, that definitely is an all orifice activation. It's just so funny. You know what I mean? Like you're doing the damn thing at that point. It's just funny.
Starting point is 00:34:36 AOA. All orifice activation. All right, guys. That is going to do it. We're back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show, a trending episode. We're back 2021. Full strength daily zeitgeist back and rested.
