Starting point is 00:02:01 Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of the Geist of Trends, Joe. Hey. Courtesy of KevBot on the Discord. That is a reference to either the Bruce Springsteen song and album, or possibly the Rage Remix. Remake? Remix? Did they just remix it with some horns? He's sick ass covered.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Some drum machines. Anyways, I am Jack and you are Miles. And these are some of the things that are trending on this Tuesday, May 31st. The last day of May. I'm pretty sure. BTS is trending there at the White House to discuss anti-Asian hate with one Joseph Robinette Biden. Looks like a cool photo op.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I mean, granted, BTS is massively influential on the internet and they got the whole army, but I felt like when Olivia Rodrigo went there and it it's like i need to align the white house with cool people shit but yeah they're there the army is loving it the bts army fans they're loving it they're you know they're they're all dressed up nice i don't know i'm just like looking it just feels so like transparently like okay what, what if Joe Biden takes pictures with BTS? What would that do to the polls?
Starting point is 00:03:29 Yeah. Again, one of those meetings, it would be great to just get a, get a look at, you know, or if anybody can give us details of, of what the meeting was like, where they came up with this brainstorm. Right. It's someone's job to be social media manager for Biden White House. I'm sure. Unofficially
Starting point is 00:03:50 or officially. Can't wait till Pete Davidson shows up, too. That'll be a moment as well. That's probably going to happen, right? If I'm being my most cynical, this wouldn't be... They've got another card to play to be like,
Starting point is 00:04:06 Oh, you thought Joe Byron wasn't cool. Well, what about this? This is the creator of rollerblades. Wait, what? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I don't know. I don't know. It's, it's hard to, it's, I think, I think I'll be wowed even, even more when
Starting point is 00:04:25 i'm the inevitable celeb collab for you know getting the vote out uh materializes this fall yeah the biden lets pete davidson dress him for a week i feel like oh my god that yeah that probably and he has like fake tattoos and stuff like look he did it right anyways mountain dew outpost i think we we might have mentioned it that it was happening on a earlier episode but i don't think we really dug in to the um to the like half a paragraph snippet that i've uh put into the doc here but yeah they're basically're basically doing... Oh, right. Because we said Lydia... Wait, we did talk. Wasn't it when I was like,
Starting point is 00:05:07 yo, Lydia needs to go to this? It was a couple weeks ago. Yeah, that was a couple weeks ago. But now we have more information. And also, it is timely. We have a mere five days to designate our Mountain Dew correspondent and send them to Mountain Dew Outposts,
Starting point is 00:05:27 which will be open from June 4 4th to june 12th uh 2022 uh which i believe is this year uh again no way to know until midnight tonight but i do believe uh and from 8 a.m eastern time until dusk uh they're leaving they're leaving that one open because you know sometimes uh you want to you want to keep it a little blurry as to when it's closing time when you got the dew coursing through your body um the area will offer a variety of activities um could have used varietal there chose not to uh the people at mountain dew should just you know take a just take a second pass at this press release. The area will offer a variety of activities including
Starting point is 00:06:10 a scavenger hunt for limited edition Mountain Dew camouflage bottles. Oh my god. Jack, we gotta go to... You had me at camouflage. In addition, the special never-released Mountain Dew flavors
Starting point is 00:06:30 will be part of a tasting while supplies last. Okay, okay. They say that they've poured a lot of money into this outpost. They have done permanent improvements to this site. Apparently, it's at Mount Doe. Not just a clever name. Yeah. Out there in Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And that's where Mountain Dew comes from, is the hills of Tennessee. Yeah, just tapping those hills for Mountain Dew. Like the origin story of Mountain Dew. Anyways, you know, the thing I'm taking from this, love the idea of a mountain dew tasting and i'm going to bring a couple flavors of mountain dew that i haven't tried to uh recording for the remainder of the week once i feel like my body can handle it uh you know kroger the other day um and also a 20 ounce the the flaming hot one which i'm i'm very curious but good to know i've not been able to bring myself
Starting point is 00:07:36 to try them yet because as you know once i pop uh you cannot i can't i cannot stop. Another thing that is trending, there is a new trailer for a live-action Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks, JGL, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who I think will be playing Pinocchio. And Pinocchio is the one character we don't really see much of,
Starting point is 00:08:04 of the iconic original. We see a Tom Hanks who looks somewhere between deranged and very stoned as you pointed out. Oh dude, Tom Hanks he looks like some fucking deadhead.
Starting point is 00:08:19 He's like, fuck my doll came to life. It's like his energy. Tom Hanks doesn't miss that often. But when he does, it often involves his hair and his desire to grow it out. Wait, what would be another one? Angels and Demon.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Angels and Demon? Oh, Angels and Demon. And the Da Vinci's codes? Yeah, he had that long, wispy hair in that one, right? Oh, Angel and Demons. And the Da Vinci's codes. Yeah, he had that long, wispy hair in that one, right? That is an oral history that I need to... I need somebody to do the oral history where they go into the decision, give him long hair. I read the dang Da Vinci code just searching for clues as to where the decision came from to give him long,
Starting point is 00:09:09 weird hair. Um, no evidence in the book that I could find that said he had, uh, an inexplicable hairline, inexplicable hairline and length. Um, but anyways,
Starting point is 00:09:23 he, he looks like a shaggy Geppetto i don't i don't think that the hair is going to keep me from enjoying it and in fact the level of commitment that is on display from tom hanks as geppetto like it seems like there's a pathos that is like coursing through like yeah he's probably think all of his all of his dreams and hopes that he had for chet he's like i use that to motivate my haunted Geppetto character. Someone who's just trying to get it right for once. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:09:52 And this little wooden doll. Maybe it won't. Could you imagine Pinocchio's like, Ere me now, Geppetto! And he's like, fuck! No! Forget it! I'm cursed!
Starting point is 00:10:04 I'm cursed! What have I'm cursed. I'm cursed. What have I done? As you pointed out. Wokwon died. What the fuck? Let's take a quick break because when we come back, we're going to talk about a story
Starting point is 00:10:16 that ties into Tom Hanks' hair. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve
Starting point is 00:10:51 into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes!
Starting point is 00:11:46 Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Yeah. Rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, everyone. I am Lacey Lamar. And I'm Amber Ruffin, a better Lacey Lamar. Boo. Okay, everybody, we have exciting news to share. We're back with season two of the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network. You thought you had fun last season? Well, you were right.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And you should tune in today for new fun segments like Sister Court and listening to Lacey's steamy DMs. We've got new and exciting guests like Michael Beach. That's my husband. Daphne Spring, Daniel Thrasher, Peppermint, Morgan J., and more. You got to watch us. No, you mean you have to listen to us. I mean, you can still watch us, but you gotta listen. Like, if you're watching us, you have to tell us.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Like, if you're out the window, you have to say, hey, I'm watching you outside of the window. Just, you know what? Listen to the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from? Like what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Hi, I'm Eva Longoria. Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon. Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back. Season two. Season two. Are we recording? Are we good? Oh, we push record, right?
Starting point is 00:13:45 Okay. And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita, followed by the mojito from Cuba, and the piƱa colada from Puerto Rico. So all of these... We have, we think, Latin culture. There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey that dates back to the 9th century B.C.
Starting point is 00:14:08 B.C.? I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to Hungry for History as part of the My Cultura podcast network. Available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And so Robert Langdon, the character, I believe that Tom Hanks plays in Trajan Langdon's dad,
Starting point is 00:14:39 maybe, is one of the big, have you, have you read that or seen that movie? I saw the first one because Paul Bettany, who plays Silas, is an Arsenal fan. And I only went because my mom interviewed him. And she's like, Paul Bettany likes Arsenal.
Starting point is 00:14:58 And I was like, okay, I'll check this shit out. I'm like, okay, you freaky motherfucker. Okay, with the self-flagellation all night. I'm like, this is... It's funny because self-flagellation all night i'm like this is it's funny because at first i didn't care because it was one of those books everyone's dad was talking about when i was in high school my dad liked it so much that i read that shit right that's what i'm saying like i honored the like my friend's dads who were like oh the da Vinci you know it's bosh before bosh and shit. And they're like, oh, you gotta
Starting point is 00:15:25 oh man, the angels and demons too coming out, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, no clue. So I watched it once and I kept it moving. Don't want to yuck anyone's yum on this one. It's, uh, I will just say the premise is
Starting point is 00:15:41 that Da Vinci was aware of the secret society. There's a good premise hidden in there. But the way he's sending messages across time is via word jumbles and the level of puzzle that you find in a USA Today life and art section. USA Today Life and Art section. Super producer Brian just suggested New York Times Sunday crossword, which is way
Starting point is 00:16:11 too difficult. Anyways, we do want to talk about the Mona Lisa because best work of art ever. I think we all agree on that. Nobody doubts it, except for the fact that it doesn't it hands are too complicated and it makes it seem like art is too hard but people just
Starting point is 00:16:32 defaced it well yeah they defaced the plastic cover that you know because that shit's hermetically sealed that's what i go for i go for mostly the plastic cover and sometimes i will look through it to the renaissance painting behind i like to get a nice plastic reflective angle so i can't see anything on it and i just i stand in awe of the reflective glass but yeah someone just dressed up like an old person got up close smeared this cake all over uh the the mona lisa and i think the whole thing the guy was like it was a protest about like you know earth death essentially um saying think of the earth there are people who are destroying the earth think about it artists tell you think of the earth that's why i did this yeah i think i think it would have been in the da vinci code if that was really a problem we
Starting point is 00:17:25 needed to worry about so i'm i'm good man he wasn't silas wasn't talking about that and if it was bad he would have been talking about that they're behind it and he wasn't so you take that uh kanye's trending he started a marketing agency donda sports yeah and they've signed aaron donald basically the best player in the nfl um he's a defensive player so fewer people have probably heard his name than other aarons oh jack i heard of him just now so do you know, don't count me out. 2021 NBA All-Star Jalen Brown. Yeah. Is in the finals. But the other news that I just saw hit is that Aaron Donald is saying he might retire after winning the Super Bowl last season.
Starting point is 00:18:15 So that's a quick turnaround. All right, man. I mean, hey, that's for NFL players. Maybe not always the worst thing. No, you know, absolutely absolutely be like you know what we're good here I think I will protect my cranium or protect my head rather than
Starting point is 00:18:32 my neck but yeah this is his foray into sports man this will be interesting I don't know what that means like what you get as like being signed to Donda Sports is it the new clutch only time will tell yeah um and finally what's that just trying to think what what is the benefit for jalen brown to sign with donda
Starting point is 00:18:56 sports he thinks kanya is cool yeah right like i'm i'm i'm curious or i'm curious what the proposal is from donda sports to a potential client that where they're differentiating outside of like, and you could have Kanye's phone number. Right. Which may be good enough for some people. But anyway. Look. It's just, it's interesting that can be just expanded across to other celebrities. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I'm sure what it means is like if people wanted to kind of be in the same silo of like creative projects that Kanye is, then it's like, oh, then I want that as an athlete or something. Good luck. Yeah. or something good luck yeah and uh finally stranger things 4 kicked off and broke the all-time record on netflix with 287 million hours viewed uh since it dropped um this shit is fucking wild i've only seen the first two episodes and i was like looking at her magic i'm like wait is it always this violent i'm like i I remember motherfuckers getting impaled and shit previously. So it wasn't always vanilla type stuff.
Starting point is 00:20:10 But this time I was like, they did something with on-screen violence I have never even thought of. I couldn't even conceive of what I saw on screen. I was like, that's new. Okay, Duffer Bros. Going for it. That's interesting.
Starting point is 00:20:25 So they're growing it up like they're doing the Harry Potter thing where the show gets more mature as the cast and audience grows up. Were people getting dismembered in Harry Potter? No.
Starting point is 00:20:39 There was a line. The first one is very much like a children's book. Where it's like someone that goes into a room and then disappears. And then they die. That's why they're not there. But yeah, no, it's, I mean, I think it's going out with a bang. I remember like in the buildup, Millie Bobby Brown was saying like, they need to start killing people off like Game of Thrones.
Starting point is 00:21:01 I was like, who do you have beef with on the cast? That'd be cool. They're still in high school and now they're just dealing with high school tings. There was a depiction of the San Fernando Valley. I was shocked to learn that it was shot in a state that has good tax deductions
Starting point is 00:21:19 for film and TV production. It was actually shot in New Mexico. Shout out to New Mexico. So shout out New Mexico for being a stand-in for the VAP. All right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Tuesday afternoon. We are back tomorrow
Starting point is 00:21:34 with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Bye.
Starting point is 00:21:58 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult.
