Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white in print. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:36 Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of the Rebecca Fergus Trends Manhunt. You know what it is. We've got theory. People might not know what it is, actually. Rebecca Ferguson is an actor. Oh. And she told a story
Starting point is 00:02:02 from behind the scenes of one of her films about the person that was number one on a call sheet i think the wording is interesting there we will analyze the wording um who just belittled her berated her on set um and everybody is trying to figure out who she's talking about. Who was it? Which first on the call sheet, a whole spoke badly to our Rebecca. We will get to that.
Starting point is 00:02:33 But first we've got some political news. Joe Biden won the Michigan primary. However, the results should probably be worrying to him. So there have been activists working for a group, Listen to Michigan, that is not pleased with Biden's handling of Gaza for some reason. And they urged voters to vote uncommitted to protest Biden's support of Israeli military action. They thought, based on the amount of,
Starting point is 00:03:08 you know, money and work that they put in, they were like, man, if we could get 10,000 uncommitted votes in the primary, that would be wild.
Starting point is 00:03:19 As of Wednesday morning, uncommitted had more than 100,000 votes, accounting for 13.3% of the vote. That's a staggering amount. More than five times the amount of Michigan's Uncommitted voters when Obama ran for re-election in 2012. Like in the actual election. right um so it's just like anybody any of the you know mainstream democrats who are like guys you're making too big a deal out of this like people this isn't actually going to matter like
Starting point is 00:03:53 this matters to people like this is a major fucking problem for you guys and for for all of us anybody who doesn't want trump to be the president, like this is a major fucking problem. Yeah. Fucking this up. Yeah. Uh, it's, I mean, it was definitely a low bar, I think, cause they knew, right. Cause the average is around 20,000 uncommitted. Uh, and they got to over a hundred thousand, but either way, when you look at the margins of like even 2020 or 2016, that's a substantial amount. He only won by about 150,000 in 2020. And it was even less than that in 2016. And yeah, again, this was like used, it's interesting. There's obviously, this is like a protest vote, right?
Starting point is 00:04:37 So they say, this is obviously Biden's gonna be the nominee, but what we can show is that there is a substantial amount of people who are explicitly trying to communicate to the president and this administration of keep the horrific deaths of innocents to a minimum or not at all. that people are really yearning for is to say like if you're president of the united states can you use your office to do the right thing which in this case is to call for an immediate ceasefire at a minimum right and then figure out what to do from there and the will is there i mean like if you look at the polling nationally it's over significant over well over 60 percent of like democrats were like yeah seized yeah we're ceasefire yes we like that that's not controversial to people uh in michigan it's like around at least over like 50 there so you're not talking about a fringe issue here and as much as they want to act like they're like well we'll just
Starting point is 00:05:56 keep raising the specter of a trump presidency it's just really just on it's just it's it's a bit to fuck you to people who are saying this these are these are things that we were asking for you as a president and then just to be you know uh browbeat by like the punditry class being like well then you basically want trump to win right no you're saying if you if you're gonna earn someone's vote this is what we're saying this is what we're asking for yeah um yeah i mean like the the absolute uh there's there's a there's a frenzied activity from like the sort of vote blue no matter who uh section of people who are like you know like just just be happy that it could be this or else there could
Starting point is 00:06:37 be a muslim ban for trump it's like that's not a that's not the rhetoric but rhetorically that's not a strategy that is going to get you the outcome that you want um so yeah again it's also young people too it's not just the like arab and muslim community in michigan there's also students and stuff like that who are increasingly becoming impatient with the administration they're saying can you do something i don't agree with like people who are like accelerationists who are like, well, then maybe everything needs to fall apart. Maybe then we should vote for Trump. That's a different outcome, certainly.
Starting point is 00:07:12 But again, this is how delicate this whole situation is. And for someone who is seeking office, rather than putting it on the voters saying, well, like, look, man, I'm in a fixed position where I'm pro-genocide. I don't know what they want me to do. Maybe you need to reevaluate what those positions are in order to maybe court the vote of people who are telling you right now in a softer way, which is, ah, here's six figure, this is a six figure group, you know, of voters who are explicitly saying this is something that needs to be done so yeah yeah uh it's i don't know we'll see what happens and also the fucking ice cream thing did not go over well either man did not go over well i thought people thought it was cool when i had ice cream jack not when you're saying stuff like that joe no uh mitch mcconnell stepping
Starting point is 00:08:02 down uh just announced he's stepping down as Republican Senate leader. He will still continue to serve his term, which doesn't end until 2027, like in the Senate. He will still be in the Senate. He just will not be the Republican Senate leader. Aides claim that this decision is not related to health problems like the recent concussion or that time his brain straight up crashed like windows 95 on live tv yeah so i don't know we'll we'll keep an eye on it is there a clear successor it's gonna be one of the people i mean like if you go in the order of like the leadership positions, it's I mean, it's like John Thune, John Cornyn and John Barrasso, literally three Johns. So you have your I think that's, you know, that's like who his leadership team is.
Starting point is 00:09:02 the vote for that position is going to be interesting. Cause while you have these sort of like, you know, uh, diehard McConnell type dudes, you also have increasing MAGA freaks too, who are going to be asking to, to do something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Um, but yeah, I don't, I don't know, man, that's, that's what happened to the good old days where everyone's name was John. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Yeah, exactly. Enough of these flashy names like Bob or Richard. All right. We have an update. Kind of. We talked yesterday about how Wendy's was investing $20 million in digitizing all of their pricing signs in order to make it possible for them to engage
Starting point is 00:09:46 in surge pricing where they could like fluidly change the price based on demand and supply um and i saw the end of just like a dim future where like the second the bars let out suddenly baconators cost $25. Um, they're now claiming, ah, psych. That was a pump fake. But yeah, you've heard of the Baconator. How about the pump Fakenator?
Starting point is 00:10:12 We do know your ass, dude. And look, I knew it. This felt like some weird ass weather balloon shit, but also like they really, so that, that the thing was uttered by the ceo like a shareholder
Starting point is 00:10:26 call which i think that was only a good idea to only the people on that call right which is a minority of people those are not the people that you count on for your shareholder value um but yeah the way they said now it's so funny he said quote we said these menu this is this is an official statement from wendy's corporate quote we said these menu, this is an official statement from Wendy's corporate. Quote, we said these menu boards would give us more flexibility to change the display of featured items. This was misconstrued in some media reports as an intent to raise prices when demand is highest at our restaurants. We have no plans to do that and would not raise prices when our customers are visiting us most. But this dude literally said dynamic pricing. Right. us most uh-huh but this dude literally said dynamic pricing right so maybe they're trying to be like that also means she could be cheaper when no one's coming no that's we're a corporation
Starting point is 00:11:13 we might do that you never know we can do whatever we want you never know that's never once happened in the billions of examples of corporations decide no no no no but to charge people uh except for that free guac tomorrow uh extra guac on that extra day yeah at chipotle um let's take a quick break and we'll we'll come back and get into uh rebecca ferguson's manhunt we'll be right back This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of
Starting point is 00:12:10 that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent, revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore.
Starting point is 00:12:30 The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. 24 hours. BPM 110, 120. She's terrified.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this?
Starting point is 00:13:22 We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're allowed to be doing this we passed the review board a year ago we're not hurting people there's nothing dangerous about what you're doing they're just dreams dream sequence is a new horror thriller from blumhouse television iheart radio and realm listen to dream sequence on the iheart radio app apple, or wherever you get your podcasts. How do you feel about biscuits? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County rebels with the image of... It's right here in black and white in print. A lion. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I just take all the other stuff out of it.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Segregation academies. When civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. So during an interview promoting Dune 2, I burned my dick on hot popcorn butter. I think JM just wrote that. I don't think that's the actual subtitle.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Oh, well, hey, we've seen the buckets. We've seen the buckets. We've seen the buckets. the most fuckable popcorn buckets uh in i've got to say months anyways rebecca ferguson who plays uh dune's mother in the film i think um i don't think the lead character's name is dune but that's what we're going with yeah dune's mother mother of dune mom got it going on so on some pop podcast uh that i don't know but it's not ours i can tell you that much yeah so she talked about how she once had an absolute idiot of a co-star who screamed at her on set and made her cry and then she returned to work and
Starting point is 00:15:47 refused to even look at them in the face performing her lines to the back of this person's head when her request for a tennis ball was declined um sounds like truly like a fucking monster this person was like this is what i have to act against or this is what I, I don't know. We don't know who it was because she was very specific not to make it clear whether it was man or woman or, you know, just said this human being, this person made me so scared. And because this person was number one on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me.
Starting point is 00:16:24 So no one had my back that would suggest it is the top build person i know that we were trying to say all call sheet might meant on a specific shoot day the star might not be there therefore whoever was next billing would be top of the call sheet but when you're also describing an environment we're like it what the fuck could i do it was the fucking star of the film right rather than like the secondary or tertiary lead or whatever so rebecca ferguson if you're not familiar has been in films such as the mission impossibles um uh the greatest showman um doctor sleep so people immediately threw out tom cruise cause we've heard him kind of,
Starting point is 00:17:07 uh, Tom lose it on the cast of mission impossible and Hugh Jackman. I don't know why people just immediately probably cause that's the second most famous movie that she's in. Um, but she has since said it was neither of them. Um, but the internet has gone to work trying to figure out who this is.
Starting point is 00:17:29 There's such a great move by The Rock, who she was in a film with. Hercules, I think. Yeah. He tweeted, hate seeing this, but love seeing her stand up to bullshit. Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on our set. I love that woman woman i'd like to find out who did this so just like real like it wasn't me that um honestly that makes him my prime suspect it does but it also like would be putting him out in front in a way that i feel like would
Starting point is 00:18:02 be unwise and he is not unwise when it comes to PR. I feel like, yeah, I don't know. I don't know. It's genius because it would then be like, but it was you. And then it would be like,
Starting point is 00:18:15 come on. You, it was you, the rock Dwayne, Dwayne rock. Um, so the top suspects include Michael Fassbender and jake gyllenhaal because they did the snowman together or whatever they did that snowman um but ferguson seemingly
Starting point is 00:18:33 had apparent warmth toward gyllenhaal and claimed that she sang and had snowball fights on set with fastbender so but when were like so those might be previous interviews where she's not going to be like, yeah, dude, that guy was a piece of shit. Right. You know, like,
Starting point is 00:18:52 are they still friends now? Like, is she kicking it with, do they exchange Christmas cards with these people? Right. So I think you can still put them, but I think they're still on the table. You do occasionally hear that jill and hall
Starting point is 00:19:05 is uh intense behind the scenes so that one just popped a flag for me i was like yeah we're gonna we're gonna flag that one we'll come back to it uh let me just circle back on that one um then hugh grant's name came up uh it did came up it came up done came up named down come debt um so he appeared with ferguson and florence foster jenkins they do not seem to be there there seems to be very little warmth between miss ferguson and mr grant in the press photos uh and so the main issue here he was not number one on that call sheet right i will say on a day of the shooting he may have been a number one on a call sheet yeah yeah but he seems he seems a bit insufferable based on like the wonka stuff too that he was talking a bunch of shit yeah so. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:05 It's weird. I believe it could be anyone. If you heard me, I'm like, yeah, it's the rock. Yeah. There's Jake.
Starting point is 00:20:10 Yeah. Yeah. It's all of them. It's all of us. Actually, that's what we're going to find out. It's going to be like a poor raw mystery where like you find out at the end that everybody did it.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Oh, I like that. did it oh i like that but it's i mean so people pointed out on the one that hugh grant was not number one on the call sheet tell you who was little uh miss meryl streep coming at her being like you suck compared to me i'm the shit i think that's probably only plausible because people have seen the devil wears Prada and she played a character like that. And the devil wears Prada, but I don't know, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:52 uh, the other one, people like in one article, people were like, Emily Blunt was her co-star in girl on train. And there was even somebody who was like i remember that day suggesting like so i think that's where this goes we need to get testimony from a person who like worked on the crew you know right behind the scenes and is willing to violate an nda anonymously on the
Starting point is 00:21:22 internet is that too much to ask? Probably, but for our entertainment and information. Look, if you don't buy a ticket, you can't win the lottery. So just put it out there. Just put it out there. Brian, the editor points out Ryan Reynolds is somebody that she's worked with before. That would be great if that just completely blew up
Starting point is 00:21:42 his whole fucking shit. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like it was just like, he has such a nice guy persona and he's Canadian. You're like, no, no way. Not him.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Not him. But I threw out before we started recording, I said, you know, Dr. Sleep, her number one was Ewan McGregor. Uh,
Starting point is 00:21:59 Ewan McGregor. I'm only suspicious of because you don't really get a look at him behind like he doesn't i don't know he doesn't give a clear energy off like other you you see him act a lot but he doesn't do like a lot of you know things out there uh and then super producer victor was like you you keep ewan mcgregor's name out of your fucking mouth yeah and then made a throat slashing gesture and so yeah well no he did the thing from eastern promises that vigo mortensen did where he just took two fingers two fingers on either side of his wind to the wind pipe yeah i don't even know what it means yeah i don't want to know so you know what i'm just
Starting point is 00:22:39 gonna shut the fuck up um brian the said, Ewan always has the high ground. I said, is that because he's Scottish and he mocked me? Oh, Jack, I believe. Oh, Jack. Oh, Jack. You silly, silly fool. Apparently it was a Star Wars reference.
Starting point is 00:23:00 And I'm the dork for not getting the Star Wars reference. A prequel event a prequel one no less um but uh yeah so i don't know this is just it's compelling i i'm always amazed at how like you'll you'll assume you'll see these people interviewed on talk shows they will be normal you'll be like these are normal people they just do this for a living and then you'll like get this video of what a movie shoot is like and like the director is like getting into a fist fight with lily tomlin right exactly why would this be an acceptable way for you to like behave on set was that huckabees that was i heard that
Starting point is 00:23:45 clip oh yeah david o russell yeah yeah and lost it unbelievable that one where uh the the christian bale one is still one of my favorites it's like he's somebody's like walking through his light or something yeah the mockery with which he trees like oh you're over there mate um it's unbelievable yeah um oh man they take it hey man they're make-em-ups they take it seriously it's yeah it's funny it's just funny like how fragile some of them are i just like that that's the context in which you can just absolutely fucking lose it on someone is when you're acting you know what i mean you're higher than them on the call sheet yeah like there's no other place where you do that and they're like oh i mean hey man sorry about that like but you know how it is like any other place
Starting point is 00:24:37 you're like what the fuck what the fuck like i'll fuck you up but like here it's like okay it's like that and the like military high command of a dictatorship it's like right two places that you're allowed to behave like that and everyone's like oh well you know what are you gonna do right exactly they were higher on the call sheet what the fuck what are you talking about yeah so you're fucked yeah anyways uh can we stay tuned this is going to be i mean maybe this is just what this show's about from now on we just ignore the 2024 election and just kind of dig in on who it was yeah that and try and figure out where kate middleton is yeah because that's the other thing now that is it's been they're saying 50 like almost 60 something days now. Anyway. Wow.
Starting point is 00:25:25 It's ripe. It's ripe with conspiracy theories. All right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Wednesday, February 28th, the very last day of February. No questions asked. Absolutely. We are back tomorrow with definitely a March episode.
Starting point is 00:25:43 The Ides of March. And you can count on that. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
