Starting point is 00:02:01 Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of the Trend House of Horror. I'm Jack. That is Miles. Miles Grave. Ooh, spooky. Miles is Grave. Sent a shiver up my spine just hearing that spooky version of your name. Yeah, what was yours the other day, Jack?
Starting point is 00:02:22 Drack O'Brien Dead undead oh yeah yeah yeah yeah that short show title courtesy of miles gray miles oh wait gray yes i was supposed to say the spooky version but i forgot it already my miles is great miles is great yes yes spooked spooked over here we're we're gonna talk treehouse of horror a little bit later Miles' grave. Yes. Ooh. Spooked. I'm spooked over here. We're going to talk Treehouse of Horror a little bit later. First, there's a Jon Stewart interview that is trending. Another one where he's just doing this bit where he's sane and talking to people who don't seem to agree with the laws of reality as they apply to the current news cycle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:08 He interviewed Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. And just again, this guy's been doing Trump's work by investigating voter fraud, can't find anything. And in this, Jon Stewart's like, can you just admit there's no there there? And this guy cannot, he'll just be like, can't you just say Donald Trump was wrong? He'll be like, look, I can I can tell you, you know, Donald Trump didn't win Arizona. You know, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Can you say he's wrong? Like everything he's saying is a lie. And he's like, well, you know, we still got investigations. I'll just play a little bit of it because. Yeah. It's interesting to see like how Jon Stewart asked a really direct question. And this guy's almost like, come on,
Starting point is 00:03:46 man, don't make me fucking. Yeah. There's a lot of, you know, a piece of shit. Like it's weird. We've run a lot of the stuff to ground.
Starting point is 00:03:53 And when, and when you get it to ground, will you come out and say, Donald J. Trump is wrong. The election. He's looking at him. So intent,
Starting point is 00:04:02 fair, not stolen and not fraudulent i i i haven't always been a straight shooter and once no once all the facts and evidence john john come on man i'm telling you i have found no evidence that the election in arizona was fraudulent or stolen one more time donald trump donald trump lost a, period. I've said that from the very beginning. There have been isolated incidences thus far that we've identified and we are prosecuting. We still have some active investigations.
Starting point is 00:04:33 And then he goes on and he's like, what's the point of you saying that if you can't find anything? He's like, well, that's up to people's interpretation. He's like, that's the fucking problem. Yeah. You're not being unequivocal about this. I liked the tactic of sticking the embarrassing answer in between two sentences so he was like i've always
Starting point is 00:04:54 been a straight shooter no and yeah and we found other things that i just want to he lost yeah and there's also isolated and he's like come on he's like come on john come on bro come on man come on man you're really gonna ask me if i was checking that lady out when i'm with my come on dude come on dude like that's like the vibe of this one it's not like you're such a bad faith actor and all of this but anyway i see you've employed the come on dude defense interesting yes yes again a big big tactic uh from white men you know come on dude come on as a legal argument that's what the oath keepers are kind of doing too right now yeah they're like it we were joshing there was that's right it was a bit it was a bit it was a bit violent sure uh and we were stockpiling weapons but it was just for it was just for jokes there was an episode of this american life where they talk like this white
Starting point is 00:05:54 guy got on was like i just talked to my friend who like uses this tactic called the good guy discount where he goes into stores and is like hey hey, can I get the good guy discount? They're like, what the fuck are you talking about? He's like, you're a good guy. I'm a good guy. What do you say here? It works almost every time. It's like, uh-huh. Let me go try that real quick.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Anyways, the come on, dude defense does not stand up to scrutiny once again. it's fun to see john stewart back out here and yeah we'll see treehouse of horror trend house or trend um so yesterday the av club ranked the 31 best horror spoofs from the simpsons treehouse of horror the shining is the number one pick. Okay. Bart Simpson's Dracula, which feels
Starting point is 00:06:48 like it could be. That's not a specific enough title. I liked that one. That was like the one about Bram Stoker's. Yeah, that's right. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the Island of Dr. Hibbert is Dr. Moreau. Anyways, and then there's one where Homer
Starting point is 00:07:04 starts eating himself, which I think I do remember. Hey, no beer and no TV make Homer go something something. Crazy? Don't mind if I do! There's so many, it's so funny how many, I do remember a lot of the early ones,
Starting point is 00:07:20 but it's funny as I go through the list of gold, anything, I kind of do the thing where I stopped watching consistently after season 10 or 11. but it's funny as i go through the listicle like anything i kind of do the thing where like i stopped watching consistently after season 10 or 11 yeah but i'm like one of these like old heads who's like seasons one through eight i'm there classic i got them all up here but yeah but it's funny too because so many everyone's like they get they're also still good in their latter days uh and i'm like i do believe that i just don't have the energy but this listicle is inspiring me too yeah go back through where where are they streaming are they
Starting point is 00:07:50 still on are they disney plus prop isn't it it's like yeah i think yeah they have disney owns everything disney owns fox but yeah i think when i'm binging and i like what when i've binged in the past and it's not halloween i don't want to be spooked, Miles. I mean, you saw how I freaked out when you said Miles Grave. I turned chalk white. Whiter. I turned even whiter.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Apple. Yeah, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to freak you out like that. Yeah. Fetterman is trending because Oz v. Fetterman. There's a debate that is happening, I think, tonight. And it's being treated by the mainstream media as a referendum on Fetterman's health. It's like a physical matchup where they're going to mark him down every time he says, uh, or stumbles over words. And probably completely ignore everything to do with the content well
Starting point is 00:08:47 yeah the debate moderators have said they are doing something in a first for these kinds of debates where john fetterman will have to de-robe just down to his underwear and then dr oz with a laser pointer from across room can just point to problem areas on john fetterman right um yeah yeah i mean he's a doctor, so we might as well get his opinion too. Yes. All right, let's take a quick break. We'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:09:16 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based
Starting point is 00:09:36 Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions.

Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career. Without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. I felt in control of my own physical body and my own self. I was on birth control. I had sort of had my first sexual experience. Starting point is 00:12:17 or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre. It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Santos! Santos! Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. and we're back and britney griner is trending because her sentence was upheld yeah nine years in a labor camp and penal colony in russia yeah these penal colonies are notorious for like torture and absurd amounts of physical labor yeah Yeah, it's just, oh man. I just remember like, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:47 last week I think she was celebrating her 32nd birthday and was trying to figure out what's going to come of this appeal. And yeah, it's pretty much at this point, they're saying, yeah, we don't have any other priorities as a country. Russia was saying, it's like, we're not really interested in talking about that.
Starting point is 00:14:03 So here's the sentence and that's it and they're just the the conversations around like trading prisoners or whatever are the those failed essentially because the the u.s was helping arm ukraine yeah and i mean i think this, I mean, there are other ways to apparently lessen the sentence or maybe, you know, change the outcome here. But it seems really, really difficult. And I mean, just like, you know, on the 32nd birthday, her partner was saying, like, you know, the one thing Brittany Griner is trying to do is not get used to the feeling of hopelessness throughout this yeah and i oh my god it's fucking i can't imagine what that experience is like right now so yeah it's just fucking i don't know yeah just such a fucked up such a such a fucked up situation um and again like when a lot of it is to deal with the fact that again i've said this in the past but like
Starting point is 00:15:04 not being able to make as much money as you can from playing in your one league professional league you play in makes it lucrative for players to go abroad to play. And I know obviously like there's capital flow issues, I'm sure, with professional sports that they'll say, well, there's the reason why we can't pay people this. say well there here's the reason why we can't pay people this but for for someone who's like one of the biggest stars to have to go abroad to continue to apply their trade to make money and then end up in this situation it seems like avoidable and even more tragic yeah kevin bacon is trending because he's entered the marvel cinematic universe, which I feel like we hear every time, they up the offer enough. And they're like, we found Kevin Bacon's breaking point. Everybody
Starting point is 00:15:52 issued the press release. We heard from Harrison Ford recently. Kevin Bacon, however, will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as himself in a new Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special.
Starting point is 00:16:08 What? That's a real sentence you just said? Yes. They're doing a Guardians of the Galaxy holiday extravaganza which has been notoriously not a good thing to try with your
Starting point is 00:16:24 fantasy space opera. they are trying to cheer up Peter Quinn? Peter Quill? Whatever the fuck Chris Pratt's name is. They're trying to
Starting point is 00:16:42 cheer him up because he's sad because everybody is mad about his voice being in the Mario movie. And they're like, well, we know that he likes Christmas and Christmas is a thing on earth. Let's go to earth. And I think maybe because he was like kidnapped in the eighties, that's a running theme through those movies.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Right. So like all All his songs are real classic pop songs. It gives them the ability to just have the least interesting soundtrack of all time. People are like, man, pretty good soundtrack, actually.
Starting point is 00:17:18 They go to find Kevin Bacon, I think. Presumably along the same... This is all released. Oh, wow. This is real. I'm not making this up. So I think they're kidnapping Kevin Bacon because he's the star of all the popular 80s movies.
Starting point is 00:17:34 And that's what I'm guessing. But they go to his house and say they want to speak to Kevin Bacon and then kidnap him. Cool. So it is interesting, though, because he's joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as himself. So, potentially that cuts off his ability to play,
Starting point is 00:17:52 you know, some... Some bigger role. Unless someone... Unless there is a character in the MCU that is secretly Kevin Bacon. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Yeah. Maybe that's the alter ego is Kevin Bacon. He just can't keep a low profile. Yeah. I don't know if they've made the cod piece big enough for Kevin Bacon. His name's Ego Maniac, and he wants to be inextricable from American cinema and where he's only three degrees away from any other person. Have you ever read the story about Hollow Man? Was that the one where he played like
Starting point is 00:18:25 an invisible man and his dick appears for like a split second in that movie and there was a lot of work that had to be done a lot of notes coming from his team to like make sure they got the dick right oh my god yeah i'm reading that they actually scanned his penis yeah no like you gotta you can't you can't mess this one up guys you can't just like say you're gonna show people the mona lisa and then give them clip art um okay it was an infrared invisible dick shot yeah but he wanted to make sure that they got everything right about it and made it big so that's something like they you know i i think famously they had to spend tons of money on kevin may have or uh kevin costner's hairline for water world but there's something about heaven they're They're very insecure, and they want to spend
Starting point is 00:19:26 a lot of CGI money to beef things up where their natural physiology is letting them down. Wow. Yeah, Paul Verhoeven was like, that is his actual dick. Thanks, Paul. Well, congratulations
Starting point is 00:19:42 to Kevin Bacon, because it's a great penis. I look at it often, that part of, congratulations to Kevin Bacon. It's a great penis. I look at it often. That part of Hollow Man. Big fan. Love pausing that part of Hollow Man. My favorite part. You know, just cinema's greatest penises.
Starting point is 00:19:55 You just have to go to MrSkin.com to see that. Yeah, yeah. Or check out my blog on the dark web where I rank cinema's greatest penises. And finally, Booster is trending because there seems to be a media blackout. I don't know if it's a media blackout or people are like bored by talk of the pandemic, but as numbers are rising leading into flu season and you know, what,
Starting point is 00:20:24 what has been COVID season. Numbers are going up and people just aren't really talking about it. Yeah. Like right now, if you look in like local New York news, there's shit like troublesome new COVID variants spreading in NY area at double the US rate. You're like, oh, couple that with fall, winter. Like we've done this for a couple years now right it goes up so they're like man the fucking boosters right there and not even 10 percent of
Starting point is 00:20:53 y'all are getting it when you know we're headed into another wave yeah and it's that new shit you know what i mean there's the new good good that nobody's going out and getting. I'm jealous of you guys because I got the old booster the day they announced the new shit was coming out. Like a fucking idiot. I could tell that the doctor was giving it to me like knew something when she was smirking. I mean, we've said this before. It's your best chance at preventing serious illness
Starting point is 00:21:23 from not getting sick in the first place. To you and the people around you or just a random old person. Especially that. And having to deal with family members who are sick and stuff like that recently. You, whatever. I feel like I'm preaching to the choir. But again, I think it paints a picture of where a lot of Americans are at with the pandemic. I think there's clearly a sense of invincibility
Starting point is 00:21:45 that I've seen in people. It's now like a very small amount of people who have managed to not get sick, but like people on the other side, like, yeah, we're good. I can handle that. But everywhere else, like we're starting to see infection rates
Starting point is 00:21:57 start rising in Western Europe. They're going up in New York. Yeah, I think there is a general exhaustion with reading, talking, thinking about this story. You also see it on like Trump stuff. This is something we talked about when during Trump's reign as president. I think we were like, you know, in Nazi Germany at the beginning of like Hitler's rise, people were right. It was front page news every time. By the end, they were just bored. They were just tired of talking about it was exhausting and so they stopped talking about it and i think there's truly a general like media cycle that we go through but like don't let that harm you in this
Starting point is 00:22:35 case um and the and the people around you yeah and i mean people are saying like it's not going to look like a peak it may look like a table mesa or a table like plateau where it's just like it's just it's flattening out at this very high number so yeah please be safe y'all especially going into the holiday season get those flu shots and shit yeah all right well those are some of the things that are trending on this tuesday october 25th We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Get the booster. Yes. Get the flu shot. Yes. Don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series,
