Starting point is 00:02:01 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts hello the internet and welcome to this episode of the zeit they drove old dixie down by the trand which is a band yeah it's a band song reference i don't like slant right i'm gonna be honest with you the trand yeah oh i feel feel like I hear my AP literature teacher from high school taking points off for a composition. I enjoyed it. What do you say about slant rhymes?
Starting point is 00:02:33 Maybe it's my rapper mind, too. Yeah. When I hear MCs, I'm like, slant rhyme. Good morning. Look at the valedictorian. Scared of the future while I hop in the delorean that that's the one that always bothered me yeah uh i'm jack that's miles this is uh the show where we tell you what's trending here on friday afternoon yeah the foo fighters are trending not just because i said
Starting point is 00:03:02 i wasn't that into them but for other reasons yeah because they've got a confession to make um you have to be vaccinated to get into their shows and what yep that was a big problem they they're doing a sorry i keep burping they're doing a full cap show at madison Square Garden this weekend. Really? Yeah, or next weekend. It's one of these weekends. No, it's this weekend.
Starting point is 00:03:29 It's Sunday. Wow. MSG is having a full cap fucking Foo Fighters show. So to warm up, they did a show like out in Agora Hills at the Canyon Club. And because they were like, yo, we're trying to have a full capacity show, but we want everyone vaccinated to come through. They had a ton of these anti-vaxxer protests out there, like holding up signs about being like, you know, fucking let me see. What is it essentially saying that they're here for like new segregation? One person from from the event who was on who was picketing outside for
Starting point is 00:04:07 the anti-vaxxers i quote and what they're doing is saying only vax people uh you know separating humans is not okay those of us who have healthy immune systems should be able to enjoy these freedoms just like everybody else this is the premise with all this anti-vax bullshit it's your freedom is that you didn't get vaccinated right secondarily then you must navigate the world based on your own philosophical decisions you've made which is having a reckoning now i'm not saying that making mandating everyone like we've talked about how that's gonna that's that could be a slippery slope down the line because you could see the potential for something really fucking nefarious or something to go down or truly uh what kind of civil liberties you have being tested but like in these instances where
Starting point is 00:04:49 people would be like i can't go to the fool fighter show because i'm too scared to get a shot turning into this is the new secret like no fool because your whole identity is built off this like fake oppression narrative so you have to constantly reinforce it with these dumb arguments i'm not here for it um so yeah white people just want to be oppressed like but you know it's without actually suffering but it's not even white people it's people i know who are not white who are black who also have these same terrible takes around it and yeah but specifically when you see when ricky schroeder shows up uh to like be the fucking main bad guy who if you remember he like helped get bail for the kenosha shooter kid um yeah you know what this shit's about it's all fucking just it's these people don't even realize they're they're playing something into someone else's
Starting point is 00:05:45 agenda um and they've just found a group of people who i think honestly i would have more sympathy if people just said i'm scared because i don't know what's going to happen and my fear is something bad happened and i know they're telling me that something bad couldn't happen but i'm still scared that's i i can i can have a little more understanding for someone who really purely was articulating their fear around it than sort of coming out and being like, this is the new Jim Crow. Like, oh, hell no.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Because the difference is, you have the right to decide what you're doing with your bodies. Well, somebody who has a history of being at the garden and is also associated with this story now, unfortunately, one John Stockton, point guard for the Utah Jazz. You know, well, one of the earliest wares of short shorts, earliest people to try and bring the short shorts back, has come out as a dipshit he is heavily featured in a trailer for an anti-vax documentary talking about how he has done quote a significant amount of research into uh and and
Starting point is 00:06:55 saying that you know lockdowns don't work and that he can't believe he had to his kids had to hear that lockdowns were a thing that the government was going to do and the the documentary itself has uh questions on its website like do masks work um so wow well hey he's done it uh did a lot of research yeah that's not a good ad for Gonzaga. Yeah. Bad. I know, man. That must be a tough day for the Zags. Does he still have the assist crown? I think so.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Just make sure. People. Yeah. Anyway, I mean, he is the person. I have been waiting since the beginning of this pandemic for him to weigh in uh on you know how what we should think about public health going forward and just vaccines in general uh so i'm glad he finally weighed in with his uh opinion what did he um has he always been kind of like parading around with these dumb ass ideas or no uh this is the first i've heard man utah utah does something to those basketball players
Starting point is 00:08:15 we'll just except for donovan mitchell donovan well let's hope let's hope not oh you're saying on the other side of it right he comes out you out, you got blue contact lenses in, and he's got his skin bleached. You're like, what the fuck happened, bro? What happened, man? Karl Malone. Hey, yikes. Hey, 14-year-old child bride. You can look that up. We don't need to go into detail about that.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Catholics are having a big day. They are drafting up legislation to make it so that uh pro-choice politicians can't get communion that's how anti-choice fail off that's whatever i mean i wonder if joe biden will be crestfallen does that mean he can't even go up with like the wakanda crossed arms to get the blessing during communion? No he could probably get the Wakanda blessed arm
Starting point is 00:09:08 but they won't give you the body and the blood of our savior Jesus Christ Jesus Christ this is his body homie but man people who are like real Catholic like that's that is their jam is communion they're really into that shit um who doesn't love being fed by hand That is their jam is communion. They were really into that shit.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Who doesn't love being fed by hand by a stranger and just fantastic robes? I mean, have you seen the parties I've been going to or what do you imply? Golden robes. And a fantastic robe. Fantastic robes. My God. That's a great thing to say to a priest as you're leaving church goodness oh my god yeah i don't know this is uh they they also there was a supreme court decision that wasn't really like a clear win uh for either side but it was a group of catholics basically advocating for their right to discriminate against same-sex couples i believe right so just a good good day for the catholics all the catholics out there being like we got a cool pope now and we can discriminate
Starting point is 00:10:19 in the cases of foster homes um so maybe we should just discriminate against catholics no no then that's then that's jim crow that's right how this works you see how this all works all right let's take a quick break and we'll be right back to talk about juneteenth and euro cup i've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project.
Starting point is 00:10:55 All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:11:09 What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous
Starting point is 00:11:25 about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey.
Starting point is 00:12:15 But this was only the beginning in a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron and the consequences for everyone involved. meaning away from the gridiron and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How do you feel about biscuits?
Starting point is 00:13:05 Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Does that even mean the Boone County rebels will stay the Boone County rebels with the image? It's right here in black and white and prints a lion individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch is a leader. You choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I just take all the other stuff out of it. Segregation academies, when the civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre.
Starting point is 00:13:51 It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture.
Starting point is 00:14:04 This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. And we're back uh and june 10th is trending because it is now a national holiday oh my god joe biden thank you but really how about some legislation how about some how about some reparations how about so many things you could do and i think that's what a lot of people feel especially black people who are like great that's a step but you skipped a few other ones that are a little more pressing than making this a federally like a federal holiday
Starting point is 00:15:17 um and i think yeah it just speaks to you know all of the incrementalism that occurs legislatively and why this just feels like another fucking just little drip where it's like, look, we'll get to the big stuff like systemic racism at some point. But how about you get this day? Editor Brian has said in the chat as a fellow black man, he says black people should be exempt from income tax. That's my dream reparation. Yeah, that start yeah man i mean look west then what happens to wesley snipes does he get his time back can you give can you give him his time can he reclaim his time but yeah this is the thing that yeah other than this being like into uh you know uh not not enough not you know a symbolic thing is great if it's accompanied by actual change. But I also like in, I think it was 1980 when MLK day became a thing, uh, that was
Starting point is 00:16:15 really unpopular. And rather than like, then the conservative movement learning about uh martin luther king jr's message what they did is they just changed his message so it was more palatable to conservatives and the the mainstream so that it was like hey he was all about uh being colorblind uh so i can only imagine what they're going to do to uh try to make Juneteenth more palatable. Yeah. And I mean, for it being such a significant, like, you know, marking sort of this informal, like the last of enslaved people learning that they were no longer enslaved, like that is monumental.
Starting point is 00:17:01 And I get that. Yeah. That you can recognize this as a federal holiday is great but yes we it just it really feels so inadequate and bittersweet when you know of like the you know voting rights how about that you know how about fucking just better outcomes for people who need help from uh you know that could benefit from a better social safety net. But other than that, there's some good programming. I've seen a few, like, corporate companies be like,
Starting point is 00:17:32 check into this Juneteenth livestream. So, but yeah. All right, and finally, Euro Cup is trending. This is something we talked about when it was first kicking off. Last week, and I just want an update because i have not paid any attention to what's going on damn it why why so tell the people how's uh are you is there a team that you're particularly fond of you know i i i don't have any you know genetic skin in the game as it were in terms of a country that i support like in that sense but
Starting point is 00:18:06 because of my love for arsenal and the you know french and the great dutchman that's played for that team i always have a soft spot uh for france and holland uh although wearing a netherlands jersey does cause problems in the city of la because of what happened between the netherlands and mexico a few world cups ago so i will let it regularly be screamed at when I wear the orange shirt, but I get it. Um, that's how deep the shit is, man. Like they don't forget and they hate iron Robin, but yeah, right now I think it's a, it's, I think Wales has been a very interesting team, sort of kind of, they've got great great players but they've been performing really well uh they've gotten a lot of attention as has denmark but more for tragic reasons because christian erickson collapsed during the match last week and had to have like be what yeah
Starting point is 00:18:55 resuscitated yeah his heart just it he had a terrible event um and if it weren't for like the quick thinking of the people on the pitch like he may have had a very different outcome uh but he's recovering well so there was a lot of focus on the game between denmark um and i believe it was belgium yesterday i honestly think who looks good france will always be a threat because they just won the last world cup belgium looks really strong too they have like really good players coming off the bench, like the equivalent of like having like, you know, fucking AD and LeBron coming off the bench because they're like,
Starting point is 00:19:33 they're like, I don't want to go hard right away, but then they come on and they just are fucking it up instantly. Yeah. But it's a fun watch. And right now England and Scotland are playing. So for all the UK Zeitgang, I know it's a bit of a grudge match for y'all out there. It's currently a draw, but it's a fun watch. And right now, England and Scotland are playing. So for all the UK Zeitgang, I know it's a bit of a grudge match for y'all out there.
Starting point is 00:19:47 It's currently a draw. But it's been exciting. Even though they keep calling it Euro 2020, like I get it. It was supposed to be then. But like, it kind of fucks my head up when I hear it. Because I'm like, this is not. Yeah. I know what we're doing.
Starting point is 00:20:00 But like, for my own psycho-emotional health, like, i don't want to keep hearing that i'm in 2020 right now are they gonna be doing that with the olympics too tokyo 2020 right because they they made all that fucking merchandise you know that's the only reason they have to do that they're like i mean that logo was yeah they're like we're fucked because we we're upside down on this merch upside down on these so you want hold the they want to change it so yeah i don't know uh how are uh how are my people how are the irish oh you know didn't unfortunately uh but you know one day one day um so i don't know who do you who you'd pick maybe scotland just because you're like fuck the crown um yeah yeah yeah but the borderlands um but yeah they're they're they unfortunately didn't make it um do they ever
Starting point is 00:20:52 they're they're rarely in there yeah it's they've had a few and look there's a very controversial moment you'll probably remember when thierry henry uh they said used a hand to keep ireland out of the world that was a big moan as well. Oh, man. So you don't want to wear an Henri jersey in Dublin. Yeah. Tell me about it. You got all these Henri jerseys.
Starting point is 00:21:12 What are we going to do? Wasn't there a big moment between the US and Mexico recently? Yeah, they had a match. That was, I forget what. And the US won and people were pissed, right? Look, that one is forever like a constant troll battle between the fans taking the piss, as it were. You're having a laugh.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Taking the piss, bruv. The NBA, big NBA weekend. I'm wearing my Sixers hat. Oh, you want to end it. The Hawks put us out of our misery they're gonna win Jack the Clippers I'm looking forward to
Starting point is 00:21:51 that game seven is that tonight I think so coming up we got fans high stakes sports yeah man high stakes sports alright well those are some of the things that are trending Nets. High-stakes sports. Yeah, man. High-stakes sports. All right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending right now.
Starting point is 00:22:13 We are back on Monday with a whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. And don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all on Monday. Bye. Bye. Bye. There's so much beauty in Mexican culture, like mariachis, delicious cuisine, and even lucha libre.
