Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeart on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast presented by capital one founding partner of iheart women's sports hello the internet and welcome to this episode of tip your trend lord you gen z ingrates i'm jack and i'm thrilled to be joined by today's trending co-host super producer justin connor joined by today's trending co-host, super producer, Justin Connor! Here I am.
Starting point is 00:01:53 We got some, I don't know, some downer news stories and then some delights from the dessert world. And I'm here for it. Downer news stories. Of course, we were talking about the fact that TikTok has informed us all that we will be tipping our landlords going forward. Wrong. They made such a good point, Justin, that I think we all just have to admit we were wrong. TikTok is a thing. And the latest video going wild is two white guys play acting an exchange. And it's basically, so one of the guys is like checking somebody out at the counter for their monthly rent.
Starting point is 00:02:37 And it's like, what if being a landlord meant you could actually charge people at a kiosk like you would at a store. And what if a tip screen came up and he was like, well, that sounds crazy to you. So you're going to tip the person, the barista who pours your coffee, but not me who gets way more money for doing way less. They already were acting like abusive boyfriends before this and
Starting point is 00:03:06 now it's just in this is madness this is getting me heated i i do not like this energy especially because the comparisons are so far off it's like they've anointed their own choice of career as like the the the hardest thing to do in the world. And it's the same thing cops do. They say they have the most dangerous job in the world and it's not the most dangerous job in the world. Sure. I just kind of hate this. The video is wild.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It's so there's like one guy with like a gelled up fade, and then he's straw mansplaining to a different older white guy in a green Billie Eilish wig, and that's supposed to represent Gen Z. And it's just like, yeah, no, we tip people who we recognize are not being paid enough and who actually do something. And not people who make too much money for doing way less. Because it's a self-contained community of landlord on landlord conversation, I think they just, you know, it probably didn't even occur to them that this was going to be controversial. It probably didn't even occur to them that this was going to be controversial. Yeah, because they live in a bubble where it's like, I really, truly don't think the caste system in America is talked about enough. There's a lot of long overdue conversation about race that's happening.
Starting point is 00:04:38 But you can be a person of color and be an evil landlord as well and participate in this caste system of grinding people under your boot and for some reason there will be a lot of people giving you a series of of applause for that and that and that's one thing like i kind of understand that but it's the fact that you yourself are you're like yes i'm in in this case with this video i'm a white landowning man at what point in history has that person ever been tipped like like what the fuck are you talking about yeah when they control all the rules and yeah that's they're trying to uh exactly they haven't been and they're just trying to correct that they do at the end say um well if you're not going to tip me then i'm going
Starting point is 00:05:32 to start adding gratuity included to your bill every week that's a little tip from uh what's the call like two two guys do landlording or some shit like that whatever the fuck their stupid tiktok is called um jack the way you flipped that that to benefit them just i think if you had a a dark heart you were too kind for this but if you had a dark heart i could see you being uh someone who could like
Starting point is 00:05:57 really reverse uh or try at least attempt to reverse someone's thoughts on this in the sense that like i can't see them being like yeah you know what that is a wrong we have never been tipped and that that needs to be corrected right now you've gone through so history it's so much of history being an oppressed class of people and yeah i could really see someone nagging themselves into believing that it's crazy so what you're saying is that something that is an injustice I just pointed out is actually a historical injustice, Justin. That's great.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Thank you so much for pointing that out. You're too good at that, man. All right. Let's talk about Krispy Kreme and Reese's are teaming up or Reese's. I don't know. I don't know. Somebody put it. I had that the question of how we pronounce that inception into my brain.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And now I can't see that word without feeling anxiety but anyways the the ones who make the peanut butter cups uh have teamed up the concoctions that they've made look impossible to stop eating yeah like krispy kreme donuts are already very hard to stop eating the only thing may be harder to stop eating than krispy kreme donuts are reese's peanut butter cups and they're just like haha you know we're gonna we're gonna double it up yeah it's one of i've never had like a krispy kreme that has a bit of a savory component to it with the peanut butter um i know that reese's puts the sugar in their peanut butter but uh that i'm kind of interested to see how that goes i'm sure it's going to be great i really really love reese's they're like my top two or three candy bars always
Starting point is 00:07:36 have been i'm just i feel like i can feel my gum line receding just by thinking about this. Running away from your teeth. Yeah. I'm not in. Yeah. You ever had something so sweet it makes your teeth hurt? Yes. I do not like that feeling.
Starting point is 00:07:56 But you know what? If I'm high enough, nothing matters anymore. And the calories don't count. Yeah. The calories do not count. So let's go. I'm here for it. So the's, you know. Yeah, and the calories don't count. Yeah, the calories do not count. So let's go. I'm here for it. So The Takeout reviewed their offerings
Starting point is 00:08:08 and the one that hit the, what they call the Goldilocks zone, it balances chocolate with a very generous amount of lightly salted components, has shoestring potato chips on top of it. So just to add a little more savoriness. I love that. I love that um i had a potato chips and some ice cream the other day never had that before i thought i was like what
Starting point is 00:08:31 is this nonsense but yeah it worked out yeah hate it for my life expectancy love it for uh you know the three seconds it will take uh when it's just like lighting up all like if you were doing a live mri or whatever whatever the thing is that shows your brain lighting up it would just be like all of it like pulsing to like a techno beat when i ate that but only for three seconds and then it would turn into depression also mcdonald's is apparently according to an ad periodical, testing selling Krispy Kremes in their stores, which seems like it should be illegal, but it also seems like it will probably be successful.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Yeah, I'm not sure what the test is. I understand the concept of like, well, let's just see what we need some hard data here but like it feels like it doesn't matter because it's just going to be money in your pocket you know yeah uh but yeah once they have like the con the agreement the behind the scenes contracting settled if they're both happy with that like the the thing is going to sell yeah it's it's not like the customers in question are like are we going to be happy with it? It's like, are y'all happy with it? Because I mean, we're going to eat Krispy Kremes. It's not like I'm going to go to McDonald's and be like, no, I'll just have one double cheeseburger and nothing else. I'm trying to be healthy. Like, that's not what you go to McDonald's for. Yeah. All right. Let's take a quick break and we'll come back and talk about the Murdoch trial.
Starting point is 00:10:03 quick break and we'll come back and talk about the Murdoch trial. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Each week we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of
Starting point is 00:12:38 that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And Alex Murdoch was found guilty of murdering his son and wife. A lot of people pointed out that in talking about this case, like it wasn't evident from our coverage of it.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Like the boy, like his son who, you know, in part of the backstory to this case did, you know in part of the backstory to this case did you know get extremely drunk and like crash a boat and someone died from the boat crash and like that started a bunch of legal questions and people looking into the family and that's at least like one of the theories as to what the motive for the for the murder was but like when you look at a picture of him he's a child yeah like you
Starting point is 00:14:06 know yes the like spoiled child scion of like a just generationally corrupt and wealthy like backwoods southern family but still a child it's just it does add a level of sickeningness to the whole story. Yeah. And he was found guilty after the jury deliberated for less than three hours. They didn't even need the amount of time James Cameron needed to tell the story of the Titanic to suss this one out. I think he did them a favor by getting on the stand and speaking extensively for like days and was not as good a liar as he thought he was apparently. Well, he was the most powerful attorney general in the area and he couldn't save himself from drowning in debt and doing horrible. I didn't imagine he
Starting point is 00:15:05 was going to get up on the stand and do a great job either you know yeah i didn't really follow this story all that much mostly what i know from this is from like osmosis of just like being on this show and whatnot but this was just bound to happen at some point. This is like what American royalty will get you. Like just so many, not just like years, but like generations. This is a whole dynasty of people permitting their scions to act like the rules don't matter. And yeah, you can get away with that
Starting point is 00:15:39 maybe for an entire lifetime, but maybe two or three lifetimes down the road, someone's gonna have to pay you know yeah yeah the video of him testifying reminded me of the prince andrew video where he like thought he was doing a good job lying it was you know he was like and i actually can't sweat so she said that i sweat on her and that's there's something similar about what it looks like when you were like the third generation of a empire of people who have just as a rule not faced consequences or not ever even spoken to somebody who is telling them the truth about what they think of them or like why
Starting point is 00:16:20 they do what they want them to do and so he just gets up there and confidently lies and it's like hell of a way to find out that nobody's actually been believing your lies you're you're just getting away with it because everyone was scared because you controlled the police the point this is illustrating for me is like the more you care about your your image the less aware you are of how you come off i think like it this they were so manicured in the public eye and everything had to be perfect and we go to black tie events and it even got to the point where you know this son the the kid paul you know he was drinking to excess constantly to the point where his friends would go to his parents and be like, hey, you need to help him. And the image of one of their sons going to rehab
Starting point is 00:17:12 was just too much for them. So apparently they openly were partaking and drinking with their underage son and his friends. And there was no accountability from anyone. And this is what was going to happen. This was always going to be the result yeah so it'll be interesting to see if they further dig into the just rampant corruption the other suspicious deaths that happened on their property their uh housekeeper who died and he ended up like using her life insurance policy to steal like millions of dollars the other person who was found dead on a road that was the only property anywhere close was their property. And there are all sorts of rumors about how he died. And it was very interesting when at the beginning of the trial, they removed the painting
Starting point is 00:17:57 of Alex Murdoch's grandfather from the back of the courtroom. He was like, well, let me just get up there and I'll tell him what's what. But also important to note that the number one legal expert on getting away with murder, OJ Simpson, weighed in on Twitter. And he was like, a whole lot of people are asking me what I think about this Alex Murdoch trial. And then he said like he
Starting point is 00:18:25 doesn't understand why people seem to think he's an expert on this subject oh my god maybe because you your resume you wrote a fucking book about your experience my guy a hypothetical but come on man you have a pretty intense cv for this yeah it's so wild that we have a celebrity whose brand is got away with murder because he was rich enough to hire the best lawyers. Just out here openly being like, I don't know why you guys are so curious to hear from little old me, but here's my opinion. Oh my God. Good to see justice served after many generations of it not being served in that particular corrupt southern town. Creed 3 is out today. I don't know. A lot of things seem like the Jonathan Majors thirst is obviously real.
Starting point is 00:19:17 So they really nailed the timing on that. and the previews are suggesting that it's going to bring in 38 to 40 million dollars from 4 000 theaters which would make it the most successful opening for any creed movie and i don't know that's pretty wild like a third like just creed three like i feel like it's just cool like michael b jordan directing it the reviews are really strong yeah i didn't see the second one i was a fan of the first one i am excited to see it how are you feeling about like are you like really excited to see it or is it more just like this is in the the conversation and i'm probably gonna have to check it out for that reason which side are you on i'm excited to see it and i also didn't see the second one for for whatever reason something about it just like didn't really speak to me like I really liked the first one but I assume that
Starting point is 00:20:13 was mostly because of Ryan Coogler and then like I think the reviews for the second one were actually pretty positive but just didn't I don't know with the public for whatever reason. I think, I think I only know like three people who've seen it, but this one I am excited to see. And it's interesting too, with it, like coming up against cocaine bear with, you know, just these,
Starting point is 00:20:34 these projects where I think we're getting back into just like enjoying movies again. I think there was a little bit of time over the last couple of years, especially since Marvel became so dominant. And since they are in their flop era, like time over the last couple of years, especially since Marvel became so dominant. And since they are in their flop era, like I think the last couple of movies, even ones that have nothing to do with the Marvel Universe, like I've walked out of and I'm like, you know, that wasn't the experience I was hoping for. And I think I'm thinking this might be, you know, I'm just looking for a good, simple story. I'm not expecting too much and I'm not expecting too little. I just want to go in even keeled and I think it's going to be pretty good.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Oh, and Magazine Dreams is another one. That's another film that's coming out soon. That's kind of not really tied into this. It's just the fact that Jonathan Majors is incredibly shredded in that. And it's like a bodybuilding like video or um bodybuilding movie and it's gonna be like apparently incredibly dramatic and fascinating and i'm actually a little bit more excited for that one than this creed 3 but i'm i'm here for both but yeah it'll be interesting to see how it does but the early previews are suggesting good things agreed to
Starting point is 00:21:43 and that's exciting for mich B. Jordan's directing career I really hope he he takes off in the director's chair and just uh you know I'd like to see what else he does there as opposed to you know acting there's a million actors out there and I love to witness good performances but I love to see when people can go behind the scenes and then bring something else out of other people that's that my shit. All right. Well, Justin, pleasure having you. Where can people find you, follow you? You can find me at jconthesmith. That's at J-C-O-N-T-H-E-S-M-I-T-H on Instagram. And thank you. All right. That is going to do it for us this afternoon. We are back on Monday morning with the whole last episode of the show. Until then,
Starting point is 00:22:26 be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we'll talk to y'all on Monday. Bye. Bye. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church.
