Starting point is 00:00:00 Oh, hey there, it's me, Jack. You've caught me unwinding, enjoying a large goblet of delicious eggnog, untangling my brain, gaining five to 15 pounds of eggnog. While we unwind here at Daily Zeitgeist, in addition to publishing our normal year end episodes and a Santa's University, et cetera, we've decided to take the opportunity year end episodes and Santa's University, et cetera.
Starting point is 00:00:25 We've decided to take the opportunity to count down the top 10 episodes of the year, published over the next 10 days. The 10 days that will be off Monday through Friday, two weeks in a row. How, Jack, how did you guys determine the top 10 episodes? They were all equally incredible. Well, we used a little something called democracy.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Ever heard of it? Depending on when you listen to this episode, that might not be such a rhetorical question. But anyways, we let you vote on the most listened to episodes of the year to see what you liked best. And you're about to hear your answers. Just 10 bangers right in a row.
Starting point is 00:01:04 We've got a trending episode in the mix. We got a lot of good ones. And at number one, well, let's just say you'll find out, especially if this is the number one episode. We're putting the same bumper at the start of all 10. So we hope you enjoy it. We hope you enjoyed listening to this year of TDZ as much as we enjoyed making it. And we will see you all in 2025. We hope you have a restful holiday.
Starting point is 00:01:37 How's my audio, by the way? Do I only make sure my you sound great to me. Oh, wait, selective America America's blue snowball, right? Oh, yeah. I wasn't supposed to say out loud. I'm still on my blue snowball. You're on a blue snowball. Holy shit. I don't even know what that is.
Starting point is 00:01:56 I don't know what that is. You're the podcasters. It's like, so it's like so old school. It's like it's like Circa Obama era. I just started a podcast. It's in the shape of a little ball and it's got little legs on it. I think it actually predates my time in podcasting. It looks like, it looks like what we thought Xenon would use. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:21 It's like a prop from Xenon girl of the 21st century Like one of the 30 movies that came out after Star Wars where they were like we do that too with just Stuff we have around the house I don't know how to tell your listeners this but Xenon girl of the 21st century is better than Star Wars Come in my DMs, bitches. Star Wars doesn't have that many fans actually, and the ones that does have very chill. So chill. Very chill and reasoned. Circumspec, I would say.
Starting point is 00:02:58 The number one word that comes to mind for me with Star Wars fans. Circumspec, good priorities, everything's in its right place. Hey y'all, I'm Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, host of Therapy for Black Girls. And I'm thrilled to invite you to our January Jumpstart series for the third year running. All January, I'll be joined by inspiring guests who will help you kickstart your personal growth
Starting point is 00:03:24 with actionable ideas and real conversations. We're talking about topics like building community and creating an inner and outer glow. I always tell people that when you buy a handbag, it doesn't cover a childhood scar. You know, when you buy a jacket, it doesn't reaffirm what you love about the hair you were told not to love. So when I think about beauty is so emotional because it starts to go back into the archives of who we were, how we want to see ourselves and who we know ourselves to be and who we can be. So a little bit of past, present and future, all in one idea, soothing
Starting point is 00:03:57 something from the past. And it doesn't have to be always an insecurity. It can be something that you love. All to help you start 2025 feeling empowered and ready. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls starting on January 1st on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey everyone, it's John, also known as Dr. John Paul. And I'm Jordan or Joe Ho.
Starting point is 00:04:23 And we are the Black Fat Film Podcast. A podcast where all the intersections of identity are celebrated. Ooh, chat, this year we have had some of our favorite people on, including Kid Fury, T.S. Madison, Amber Ruffin from the Amber and Lacey Show, Angela Carras, and more. Make sure you listen to the Black Fat Film Podcast on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or whatever you get your podcast, girl.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Ooh, I know that's right. In the aftermath of a transformative election like the one we just had, it's hard to read the news without asking yourself every five seconds, how did we get here? That's exactly what we're always trying to figure out on Fiasco, a history podcast from the co-creators of Slow Burn. In our first season, Bush v. Gore, we examine an unmistakable turning point in American politics, the 2000 election, which came down to a recount in Florida and ended with one of the most controversial rulings in Supreme
Starting point is 00:05:20 Court history. In many ways, it's the beginning of the story we're living through right now. So if you're trying to make sense of the story we're living through right now. So if you're trying to make sense of the present moment, check out Fiasco, Bush v. Gore, and find out how a statistical tie in the Florida vote count put the nation into an unprecedented holding pattern, during which American voters waited with bated breath to find out whether Al Gore or George W. Bush would be the next president of the United States. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Hi, I'm Dani Shapiro, host of the hit podcast, Family Secrets. How would you feel if when you met your biological father for the first time, he didn't even say hello? And how would you feel
Starting point is 00:06:02 if your doctor advised you to keep your life-altering medical procedure a secret from everyone? And what if your past itself was a secret and the time had suddenly come to share that past with your child? These are just a few of the powerful and profound questions we'll be asking on our 11th season of Family Secrets. Some of you have been with us since season one and others are just tuning in. Whatever the case and
Starting point is 00:06:31 wherever you are, thank you for being part of our Family Secrets family where every week we explore the secrets that are kept from us, the secrets we keep from others, and the secrets we keep from ourselves. Listen to Season 11 of Family Secrets on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey everyone, I'm Madison Packer, a pro hockey veteran going on my 10th season in New York. And I'm Anya Packer, a former pro hockey player and now a full Madison Packer stan. Anya and I met through hockey and now we're married and moms to two awesome toddlers. And on our new podcast, Moms Who Puck, we're opening up about the chaos of our daily lives
Starting point is 00:07:12 between the juggle of being athletes, raising children and all the messiness in between. We're also turning to fellow athletes and beyond to learn about their parenthood journeys and collect valuable advice, like FIFA World Cup winner, Ashlyn Harris. I wish my village would have prepared me for how hard motherhood was gonna be. And Peloton instructor and Ratchet Mom Club founder, Kirsten Ferguson. And I remember going in there hot mess.
Starting point is 00:07:38 So listen to Moms Who Puck, a production of iHeart Women's Sports and Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the iHeart Radio app, Apple, Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports. Hello the internet and welcome to season 355 episode five of Dirt Daily's Hey Guys Stay! Production of I Heart Radio. This is a podcast where we take a deep dive into America's shared consciousness.
Starting point is 00:08:07 And we are of course America's only undecided podcast. Toasted by me, an undecided voter. We're still just like not sure what to think about these two. And the New York Times throws us parties all the time. It's great. It is Friday, September 13th, 2024. My name's Jack O'Brien, AKA me and you, slurping soup like effeminate dudes,
Starting point is 00:08:37 person lips on some thick ass straws, plumper's out, homophobes, slack jawed. That is courtesy of Lockeroni on the Discord. A little elevator is outcast ATLians, AKA I am thrilled to be joined by a hilarious stand-up comedian, writer, actor, improviser. You can catch her on stand-up stages everywhere. Check her website.
Starting point is 00:09:00 And at the monthly facial recognition comedy show, which she also produces, it's Pauly V. Gunaway. I'm never leaving. I've come back. I'm never going away. Every time Miles or I is out and you fill in for us, there are people who come in and are like, take your time getting back, guys. Uh, Polly V has this. I'm like, I know if Polly V has this, but kind of fuck you. That hurts my feelings.
Starting point is 00:09:33 I don't need to hear. I don't need to hear someone better at my job than me, even if they are laughing on your kids, hoping you guys will get sick. Oh man. You don't have to, by the way. I'm like laughing on your kids hoping you guys will get sick. Oh man, you don't have to, by the way. That job has been taken care of by everyone else in first and second grade. Incredible. It's great to have you back, Polly V. I'm so happy to be here.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Miles, still not feeling well. Send the good vibes out to miles heading into his birthday weekend. Also sent him birthday wishes. Yeah. Easy way to remember he and Prince Harry born on the same day in the same hospital. And were they switched at birth? I don't know. Who?
Starting point is 00:10:21 Probably not. Who does the Queen love more or loved more? Probably miles at this point. Miles may not look like Prince Charles and Diana, but you know who else doesn't? Prince Harry. So, you know what I mean? Just saying. Just putting it out there.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Actually, I don't think he was born in the same hospital. He's the love child of Ed Sheeran and Princess Diana. Somehow. Well, Pallavi, we are thrilled to be joined in our third seat by one of our very favorite guests, a very funny comedian and activist, the host of the great award-winning podcast, Good Muslim, Bad Muslim, the senior fellow on comedy at the Pop Culture Collab,
Starting point is 00:11:01 which is written in the New York Times, wrote and performed a piece on NPR's Fresh Air, and is guest producer to Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o's new podcast, Mind Your Own, available wherever you get podcasts. We don't usually like to acknowledge that other podcasts exist on this show, but we will in this one instance
Starting point is 00:11:22 because it sounds pretty fucking cool. It is the hilarious and talented My god, it's so good to be here so good to have you back like obsessed that you know Lupita Nanga Crazy I'm like I bet she just smells so nice. I'm like in love with her. I'm obsessed with the fact that she got a cat because of a quiet place after having to have cat therapy because she was scared of cats.
Starting point is 00:11:55 And then she filmed that movie and then she adopted a cat. And now she posts like photo shoots with a cat for its birthday. And I'm like obsessed with it. Oh my gosh, she's phenomenal. You just rattled that off like everybody knows that. Is that something everybody knows? If you heard me on the last episode, I'm obsessed with Moody, the pygmy hippo from Asia, and
Starting point is 00:12:11 I'm obsessed with Lupita Nongle and her cat. And that's the only two things on my timeline, actually. She has many superpowers. One of them is just you would tell her your name pronunciation and then it was just there. Right away. Right away. Yeah. And just like so fast with every I mean, she's an Academy Award winning actress. Of course, you can retain mountains and mountains of information, but it's just like so smooth, so professional. So her mouth knows its way around a word or two. But that was the creepiest way to say that.
Starting point is 00:12:46 I'm sorry. Is that weird? Why do I keep talking about her mouth? From that. I love you. I'm still recovering. I really apologize. Jesus Christ. What the fuck was that? That's a beautiful mouth you got there.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Seems to know its way around a word or two. That is a compliment I like to give people. Is it not good? I mean, I can just you can be honest with me here. Give it to really macho man and see. God damn your mouth knows it's way around a word. Yeah. I've read that's like a skirt that really knows her way around to fill in the blank.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Mm hmm. Yeah. Well, he did't say skirt. No, yeah. To be fair, Zara, that I understand why you said that, but, uh, Brian has been instructed to edit out all the times when I say skirt, so it won't be in the final cut. I mean, that's the way to do it.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Just erase any history. A skirt. Jesus Christ. Well, I apologize for that, but, uh, I'm thrilled to have you back on the show. How are you doing? Yeah. How's motherhood treating you? Oh, my God. Mm hmm. That's all we need to hear.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I think that says it all. But that means if you're not an exhausted parent, then like you're a bad parent. You know what I mean? So that means you're a great mom. Oh, thanks. Thank you so much. There's just things I can't do anymore is just like most conversations like thank God this is pre-recorded. Yeah. No, we it's taken it's taken us 45 minutes to get this much just so the listeners aware where nobody's making sense. Yeah. Yeah. Why do people ask, how are you doing?
Starting point is 00:14:30 Like I just did. I don't know. Fuck those people. You said, how are you doing? Like just standard, you know, just standard like small talk, right? But then there are those people who grab you by the wrist and pull you toward them and say, no, really? No. Are you do? Yes. This is something that like some dads do is they want to have like real conversations like at the like jump that like they just like see you and they're like, no, mate, how you really doing, man? And then like, judge your body language and stuff. I's too much. I think people like during COVID were like checking on your friends. And it's like, bitch, don't check in on me.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Okay, you're gonna make it worse. You're bad for my mental health. The people who need to check on me will. Oh my God. Do you know how long it takes me to stand up? Right. I have to breathe in from my deepest core that is so stretched out. I'm leaking blood clots.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Yeah, it's like alien. Oh my God. It's like alien, but I'm more hollow inside. That should be a Mother's Day card. Like, forget this bullshit, flowers, whatever. Be like, thank you for being hollowed out on the inside. Just a picture pointing to the guy on the table after the chest bursters, just like you.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Yeah. And then it's like, you're like, you cut out a picture of your face and put it on the little alien. Have you, have either of you seen the new alien Romulus? No, but I saw the behind the scenes thing where it was like a real guy and not CGI and it was like the tall... Yeah, they killed a guy. Oh no, no, you're not talking about... What? I thought you meant the person having the thing come out of them. Yeah, no, they have a person in a suit. But the connection of
Starting point is 00:16:28 chestburster being like childbirth is made and remade and underlined in that movie. They're like, but like, have you thought about it? Like, really? But you know, that was revolutionary in its time. Oh, yeah, yeah, no, for sure. They were still I think I talked. Because in its time, they were still, I think I talked about this last podcast where they were still putting women against their wishes under general anesthesia for delivery. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Oh my God. Yeah, and birth was just not a thing that you talked about, discussed, or showed in any kind of quote unquote vulgar way. And back then, aliens weren't allowed to open credit cards on their own. So like that was really fucked up. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Wow. They put them under general anesthesia and we're just like, yeah. So so you're quiet during childbirth or something like stop your screaming broad. We could hear you from where we're smoking our cigars. Yeah. Well, it seems like your mouth might know its way around a word That you I guess I'm saying it I'm sorry All right, and now I can't stop doing it. I'm just putting my mouth all around All right, we're gonna get to know you a little bit better in a moment.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Do it. First, we're going to tell the listeners a couple of things we're talking about. We're just going to continue to talk about the debate, the responses, what early, what the flash polls are saying. Also, we are, of course, going to talk about the new season of Network TV show 911, which has a three-part season premiere that I'm pretty excited about, where bees form a tornado and attack Los Angeles. Oh, hell yes. Yes. All of that, plenty more. But first, Zahra, we do like to ask our guest, what is something from your search history that's revealing about who you are?
Starting point is 00:18:26 Okay, I asked my search history. If one piece of cheese in a pack of sliced mozzarella cheeses has mold on it? Does that make them all bad? Great question that has come up in my mind many times and that I have never, I've never bothered to Google it, I will tell you that much. I, depending on how much I want the cheese, I will either throw the one piece away or throw the whole thing away.
Starting point is 00:18:56 But it's totally dependent on like, how bad I need cheese in that moment. I know, I was gonna say it's dependent on like, how much money is in your bank account at that moment. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like... Or if you're able to throw a whole pack of cheese away, it's like you don't care about
Starting point is 00:19:13 your bank account, your neighbor's bank accounts. No one cares. Yes. But if you're like, oh, I can just eat around it on this slice. I can just cut out the bad part of this slice. Then you're like, you're down bad. I'm so sorry. So you're taking just the mold off the one slice.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Yeah. I mean, it gets to that point. You know what I mean? I mean, smell test, obviously, right? We're using the smell test. If all the cheese smell bad, we're probably- Oh, I used the Parker test. Victor is asking if they're individually wrapped. And I'm sorry, Victor, that's a different
Starting point is 00:19:45 tax bracket than what we're talking about. If your cheese is individually wrapped. I'm not talking about Kraft singles, Victor. Yeah. Though now I understand what Kraft was doing. We're talking about if it's hot, it's melting together into one big stack. Right. I mean, typically I do the partner test where I give it to my husband and watch
Starting point is 00:20:05 him eat it and just stare at him for a while. Just put him under a round the clock observation for a couple minutes. That's what husbands are for. My dad would always eat the leftover bad stuff. We'd be like, I don't want it. I don't want it, mom. And he'd be like, okay, give it to me. Yeah. Fine. But it's for my baby. So I had to be like super cautious. Oh yeah, for sure. For sure.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Yeah. No, we can take it. We can take a little bit of that food. I will say I have been told that especially for like bread, the spores spread and you should toss it. Yeah. But I'm also a big fan of like eating questionable stuff and then wondering if I have IBS for the rest of my life. So I'm a huge fan of that. Then you have something to blame your IBS on besides just your anxiety. I'm a hot girl and that's why I have IBS and not because I just like don't pay attention to the mold in my bread. That's right. I like that we just rushed past like, did Google have a satisfying answer of.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Oh, yeah. On this question. It actually said everything that you guys just said. It said you can either discard the moldy slice. It was an. Oh, thanks, Google. Right. I didn't know my two. Lights. Yeah, it is. I wasted gallons of water You're throwing away gallons of water to figure out if you should throw away a slice of cheese
Starting point is 00:21:35 You definitely don't need to throw away crafts like if one gets moldy you don't have to throw away the rest This is it. We're not talking about craft singles here. We're talking about whole foods organic Mockerel a singles. Oh, okay. Sorry foods, organic mackerel, singles. Oh, okay. Sorry. Sorry. It's the only cheese I'm aware of. You're like, I don't understand. What's other chees? What is something you think is underrated? Okay. I stand by this baby talk, baby. Talk is hugely underweighted.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Okay. I don't know how I felt about that. I was like, at first I was like underweighted. Okay, I don't know how I felt about that. Yeah, I didn't. I was like, at first I was like, Oh boy. It's cute because you talk to your babies and maybe your dogs or your cats or whatever and that's a cute bond. And then when you said it to me, I was like, Oh no! I wanna talk to everybody like this. I wanna talk to everybody like this. Why do you sound like you're from New York when you do it?
Starting point is 00:22:24 I wanna talk to everybody! Why do you like this? Yes. Why do you sound like you're from New York when you do it? I want to talk to everybody. I get out of my way. I'm walking here. You sound a little bit like a South Park character is supposed to be from New York. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But South Park characters are so cute when their baby's from New York.
Starting point is 00:22:45 I'm just going to move right along to what you're overrated. But some characters are so cute when their baby's from New York. I'm just going to move right along to what you're overrated. Zara, what's up? You think it's overrated? On that one, I guess. Yeah, no, no, no, we all agree that was underrated and great. What's what's up? The overrated being old and having children hugely. Please don't wait for your life to start.
Starting point is 00:23:08 How would you know, Zara? You're so young. Yeah. Exactly. No, I'm not young. You're in your 20s. I'm not young. I'm very out and clear about this because everyone has been telling me, everyone I know who's in their 30s and their 20s keeps saying to me, yeah, I was so stressed about my career choices.
Starting point is 00:23:26 But then I saw that you had a baby at 43 and I thought I can wait. And I want to say to you, don't wait. Don't be crazy. Just decide to get a surrogate. Just save up for that now. If it's important to you, save the hundreds of thousands of dollars or adopt you should start on that adoption is a long process none of it none of it that you undertake in the world of child rearing other than free sex babies for whoever gets to do that now free sex babies for whoever gets to do that now. Free sex babies for whoever gets to do that now. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Free sex babies for whoever gets to do that now. That's gonna be a long ass science. It feels like something that Trump would have said in the debate. Transgender, illegal alien surgeries, free sex babies for whoever gets to do that now. Free sex babies for whoever wants to do that now and we want not that.
Starting point is 00:24:24 And they will kill them after nine months. Right. Oh my God. I will say none of my family ever takes me seriously. Fair, fair, totally fair. But my brother, one time when he was walking with my nephew, like strapped to his chest, he was doing like his daily walk or whatever.
Starting point is 00:24:41 And he was like, are you guys thinking about having kids? Because if I, cause he got a house and then a child, he was like, I would have done it backwards. I would have had the kid first. I don't care where I was living. I would have just had the kid. It's so tiring. I'm so tired. And he had his kid when he was like 37. So like, that's even early comparison to me. He's like, I would have done it sooner. I'm so tired. Well, and you know what else? Because like, I just feel like in the United States, people don't have like real conversation anymore.
Starting point is 00:25:11 We just have like cult culture conversation. Oh, interesting. That is so brat. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm so brat.
Starting point is 00:25:20 That point is so brat. That point is so brat. About how we only, how we like cram pop culture into like important conversations. Thank you. Thank you. I'm so bad. That point is so brat. That point is so brat. About how we only, how we like cram pop culture into like important conversations. Saying that is so brat. Is it so brat? Oh my God. No.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Zara, I am going to have to end this episode. And the Daily Zeitgeist in general. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. Zara, this is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast.
Starting point is 00:25:42 This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. This is the last episode of our podcast. How will our you make it sound like Elmer Fudd? Oh, it's true. No. OK. I had
Starting point is 00:26:09 we tried to have an IVF baby, which is extremely expensive Yeah, tens of thousands of dollars expensive and it failed and we had my baby, but it's still like I know Very clearly that it's the IVF hormones and process that supported me in having my quote unquote free sex baby. Like it definitely was not a free experience. Gets to do that now. We tried for three years, nothing happened. And then after the IVF. Don't say it like that with the sex, you guys got to come a lot, right?
Starting point is 00:26:39 Yes, it's true. That happened. It's true, it's true. That's really hard though. That's like a hard process I say all this just because I feel like in our culture of culti conversation Hmm. It's we've never come down to just what the fuck stuff costs and how you're gonna feasibly do it
Starting point is 00:27:03 You know what? I mean? Like no one's about retirement, even though it's like terrifying out there. Nobody's talking about how you're just going to die of natural disasters because of climate change. That's my retirement plan. It's like, how am I supposed to pay for like solar and the down payment to a house in California and my kids education? Because, you know, hopefully they don't get shot at school and also figure out my retirement all at the same,
Starting point is 00:27:28 all at one time. Like you have to do that all at one time when you have your babies in your late thirties and early forties is a fun accounting experiment. Yeah. It's tough out there. I just really ruined everyone's day. What a blessing. Oh my God. What a blessing. Wow. A child truly is a miracle. That's a great impression of the mom not listening at all,
Starting point is 00:27:52 just bringing the vibes. What a miracle, what a little blessing. What a miracle, child. Wow. I'm in immense debt. What a little blessing. And what a blessing debt is, because it just kind of,
Starting point is 00:28:06 you know, discomfort brings us into our own bodies. Yes. All right. Let's take a quick break and we'll come back and we'll. Get yourselves together. Or we'll get our talk and baby talk for the next two acts. Get ourselves together and we will respond to the debate and the fallout from the debate
Starting point is 00:28:25 in baby talk. We will be. We're going to talk about the white quack. White quack. Hey y'all. I'm Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, host of therapy for black girls. And I'm thrilled to invite you to our January Jumpstart series for the third year running.
Starting point is 00:28:47 All January, I'll be joined by inspiring guests who will help you kickstart your personal growth with actionable ideas and real conversations. We're talking about topics like building community and creating an inner and outer glow. I always tell people that when you buy a handbag, it doesn't cover a childhood scar. When you buy a jacket, it doesn't reaffirm what you love about the hair you were told not to love. So when I think about beauty, it's so emotional because it starts to go back into the archives of who we were,
Starting point is 00:29:16 how we want to see ourselves and who we know ourselves to be and who we can be. So a little bit of past, present and future, all in one idea, soothing something from the past. And it doesn't have to be always an insecurity. It can be something that you love. All to help you start 2025 feeling empowered and ready. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls starting on January 1st on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey everyone, it's John, also known as Dr. John Paul, and I'm Jordan or Joe Ho and we are the black fat film podcast,
Starting point is 00:29:53 a podcast where all the intersections of identity are celebrated. Oh, chat this year we have had some of our favorite people on including Kid Fury, T.S. Madison, Amber Ruffin from the Amber and Lacey Show, Angelica Ross and more. Make sure you listen to the Black Fat Fam podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or whatever you get your podcast girl. Oh, I know that's right.
Starting point is 00:30:19 In the aftermath of a transformative election like the one we just had, it's hard to read the news without asking yourself every five seconds, how did we get here? That's exactly what we're always trying to figure out on Fiasco, a history podcast from the co-creators of Slow Burn. In our first season, Bush v Gore, we examine an unmistakable turning point in American politics, the 2000 election, which came down to a recount in Florida and ended with one of the most controversial rulings in Supreme Court history. In many ways, it's the beginning of the story we're living through right now. So if you're trying to make sense
Starting point is 00:30:54 at the present moment, check out Fiasco, Bush v.
Starting point is 00:31:29 And how would you feel if your doctor advised you to keep your life-altering medical procedure a secret from everyone? And what if your past itself was a secret and the time had suddenly come to share that past with your child. These are just a few of the powerful and profound questions we'll be asking on our eleventh season of Family Secrets. Some of you have been with us since season one and others are just tuning in.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Whatever the case and wherever you are, thank you for being part of our Family Secrets family where every week we explore the secrets that are kept from us, the secrets we keep from others, and the secrets we keep from ourselves. Listen to season 11 of Family Secrets on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. I'm Madison Packer,
Starting point is 00:32:22 a pro hockey veteran going on my 10th season in New York. And I'm Anya Packer, a former pro hockey player and now a full Madison Packer stan. Anya and I met through hockey and now we're married and moms to two awesome toddlers. And on our new podcast, Moms Who Puck, we're opening up about the chaos of our daily lives between the juggle of being athletes, raising children, and all the messiness in between. We're also turning to fellow athletes and beyond to learn about their parenthood journeys and collect valuable advice,
Starting point is 00:32:51 like FIFA World Cup winner Ashlyn Harris. I wish my village would have prepared me for how hard motherhood was gonna be. And Peloton instructor and Ratchet Mom Club founder, Kirsten Ferguson. And I remember going in there, hot mess. So listen to Moms Who Puck, a production of iHeart Women's Sports and Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Presented by Elf Beauty, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. And we're black and everybody watched the debate. Totally yeah. Yeah, totally, totally, totally. I get totally my rewatched it didn't actually take in any Twitter commentary made my own judgments and I'm still an undecided voter. No, I keep saying this because the New York Times, the headline. So if you go to that, like conservative places like the Drudge Report, their response was like, oh, my God, Trump totally tanked that you go to the New York Times.
Starting point is 00:33:55 They're like, some may think Trump lost that debate. Undecided voters on both. Yeah. Undecided voters, less certain. And then this yesterday morning, they published this episode of their podcast that perfectly crystallized why I think their obsession with undecided voters is so funny. They well, so first of all, immediately after they had their five, they have just these five people who are undecided. One of them is undecided because they're not paying attention to the election and keep being like, I don't know, man. I'm like, not into politics.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Leave me alone. What a good life. But yeah, that that is like so funny. One of their talking heads about the election that they keep coming back to. How interesting. What a miracle. And then they have this. What a miracle. Such a blessing. Wow. Such a blessing to not be asked. Are we even talking about?
Starting point is 00:34:55 So they they also dropped this episode of their podcast, The Run Up, where they literally go to JD Vance's hometown and throw a watch party. No, they throw a watch party for two people who are undecided. So they're like buying, they're rewarding these people who are somehow still undecided about what they think about Donald Trump. They're like bringing them snacks and food to. Oh, my God. Like throwing a little party for them. Undecided about the new alien movie, if anyone wants to.
Starting point is 00:35:32 It's so beneficial to be undecided somehow. Like you can hear them, the person like thanking the New York Times for the snacks they brought. They're like, oh, you brought the red ones. I couldn't find them. Thank you so much. I love that. And then they interview them. And the husband is like full Trump voter and the woman is leaning Trump.
Starting point is 00:35:55 And then just like the interview, the person's finally like, okay, so what is Trump's? Because she keeps being like, yeah, she was good on this. She was good on this. I'm a pro choice. And the person's like, okay, so what is Trump's biggest plus for you? And she's like, huh, he does seem to want to better immigration. Oh, wow. That's not a big issue for me, but it's his biggest talking point and it can't be denied and it can't be ignored. So it's just like racism.
Starting point is 00:36:35 It's just like that. It's just all like, he's willing to be racist in public essentially. And they are, yeah. And they are willing to go and throw a party for these people so that they will talk on the record. But have you considered that he is running against someone who is black and Indian? Have you considered that?
Starting point is 00:36:56 Maybe that's dissuading her. Maybe it's not whatever you just said. What if the White House smells like delicious food? Right. What are you seasoning in the fucking White House? What are we going to do? They're going to take our spices. So there's a Twitter account called Decoding Fox News at Decoding Fox News, and they put together a fun little reel of
Starting point is 00:37:24 first, like a quick cut together of the vibes before the debate where they're all just like, here's what's going to happen. Trump's about to fucking mop the floor. And then right after. So I just thought this was kind of helpful. I just love that they're so dumb that they would think that. But like, I know that they have to say it but I do think some of them are genuinely surprised every time he disappoints them and that's really funny to me, right? and I mean it's all bizarre to me because He was very disappointing the first time
Starting point is 00:37:59 with my Just in general as a president. Yeah in general as a president and then also with Biden, he was already like ranting and out there and not making any coherent sense because he was just like a racist ranting lunatic. But like now Republicans are like, you know, I really am seeing him differently. Like what are you talking about? Like, nothing actually has changed. It's just whatever gigantic media conglomerate is going to acknowledge it is now.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the New York Times is doing their best to not acknowledge it by filtering everything through the eyes of somebody who's planning to vote for Trump. But Fox News is I thought I thought this was just kind of informative to see vibes before vibes after. So we'll just skip around here a little bit. You say debates, maybe don't move the needle that much in the big picture. This one seems like it's bigger. But I think on the getting under his skin point, that's really her only card to play.
Starting point is 00:39:05 It didn't say what his advice was, but it is so stunning. And you saw that timeline piece. Seventy-five days ago, we were on this set watching him come out for that first debate, and the entire race changed. You're on set, all of us, the last time. There was going to be a big debate. Jesse Waters un-miked for some reason at first. Right before the debate, I said, I don't think this debate's gonna change much Shot give it a shot. This is gonna be so unpredictable because both of these people can self-destruct We've seen Trump blow himself up
Starting point is 00:39:40 Right seen Kamala blow herself up and just when wander around and search for things to say and maybe land it. Are they going to fact check Trump live? If you had said 10 years ago, the Democrat nominee would support that. I would have said you were cuckoo. I have a feeling that he'll come out of this debate in about the same position with the public that he holds going into it. You have to assume that he won't be bellicose and pugnacious. So you have to assume he won't be bellicose and pugnacious. So you have to assume he won't be bellicose and pugnacious. And then they bring in Sean Hannity. Here comes Hannity just laying down like, this is what we think his challenges are and how we think he'll do with those challenges.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Kamala Harris tries to make him angry, not to get angry. And how he refers to her and stays calm. I think it can definitely be a big night for her. Do I think that she will be able to rattle him in any way? I would argue right now the chance is zero point zero zero one percent. So I like that there he's genuinely that the reason they're discussing that is because they are afraid he's going to lose his shit. Right. They're afraid, but Hannity is laying the odds that she's able to do that at a pretty
Starting point is 00:40:48 startling 0.001% that she will be able to rattle him at all. And then post debate, yeah, people seem a little less confident and sure of how that went for him. President Trump did take a lot of the bait that she threw out in some of those answers. It has to be said that she was really never held to the fire. She was not pressed by the moderators on her past positions and how she got from a very progressive, most progressive senator to where she is now. And that falls on ABC. So then we get to Brit Hume who went in saying,
Starting point is 00:41:31 like, I think he's gonna be fine. I don't see this debate mattering much or that, like, I think they'll both be fine. Make no mistake about it. Trump had a bad night. He rose to debate repeatedly when she baited him. Something I'm sure his advisors had begged him not to do You know in the first debate when Biden attacked him. He just kept his cool and kept going
Starting point is 00:41:51 And this in this debate he rose to the painting and we heard so many of the old grievances that that we'd long thought that Trump Had learned were not winners politically the biggest loser in the debate and we talked about this pre debate is The biggest loser in the debate and we talked about this pre debate is ABC Got reaction from Republican friends. The two common things were trainwrecked and he needs this to end I've never heard Donald Trump not be definitive about a set of plans. He said I have concepts of a plan. Oh my god So this is Fox News and they're like, yeah, I'm getting text messages Like so obviously they have their talking points of like what they want to say. ABC News did bad job. But then they're like, but people are using words like train wreck. And how do I make stop for Trump?
Starting point is 00:42:37 I loved the concept of a plan thing. I love that so much because we can all relate to that. Like that is very LA. That is very like, yes, I have a concept of a plan. That's like what Sufjan Stevens said when he was like, I'm going to make albums about every 50 states. You know what I mean? All the 50 states. I have a concept of a plan for it. I love that. That is so, so good. It is so good. It also does seem to be probably checking in with our undecided voters on the New York Times that does seem to be a point that really stuck with people where they were like, because like one of the arguments people have like given themselves for like, how they can justify voting for Trump was that like, well, he's definitive, he's a decider, he fired all those people on the TV. So he's like a definitive person. And that line really fucked with people. And the other thing they really seem to respond to in the very small sample size that the New York Times uses is like her going up and introducing herself. They're
Starting point is 00:43:34 like, damn, that was very assertive and cool of her. I think that's like an example of like how people, because we were talking about like who they're going to side with whenever, however the wind blows or whatever. But it's literally whoever looks more powerful because that's what like the Republicans are all about is power. So it's when going in, they're like, oh, like he's going to look more powerful, whatever. That's all we care about. And then coming out, they're like, oh, she actually did look more powerful. And she was laughing at him, but not too much or whatever.
Starting point is 00:44:09 She had those lines about how 80 million people fired him. There were times where I was like, she is kind of attacking him when she needs to talk more policy. But she did come out looking stronger than him, especially when he was able to be so easily baited about his rally numbers and all of that shit. He just looked weak as hell.
Starting point is 00:44:30 He could not let it go. Yeah. That's what rattles Fox News. They're like, I thought he's a winner. We don't like losers. Yeah. Oh, no. So that's what moves them.
Starting point is 00:44:42 Yeah. I just like this moment where they're like, Jesse Waters, our number one person who has told us drinking out of straws and eating soup is for beta males. What do you say? What say you, sir? I don't think the American people are watching and thinking any of these people won.
Starting point is 00:45:00 I don't think the American people are watching and thinking any of these people won. That's a good impression. It did have like a rhythm. Yeah. So that was the general vibes is like somewhere between God, that was a bad look for our guy. And I don't think anybody watching that think anybody won. Trump did come on to Fox News and he was like, he kept saying that all the polls said he won like 90 to 10, 80 to 20, like what he was like, we said. And then he was like, we sent over polls to you and you can check them. All of the polls we sent you basically said
Starting point is 00:45:36 that we won. Yes. So yeah, I want to get to that moment where he just came out to do the spin room stuff because, and seemed to be just saying numbers at random. But just in response to the, I don't think any American people saw that, I think anybody won. Washington Post reported that a YouGov poll showed Kamala won 54 to 31 from people. CNN had her winning 63 to 37%. Okay. from people, CNN had her winning 63 to 37%. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:06 Like when you think about how evenly divided, like it's a meme that like, you know, one of the sides seems to be free puppies for everyone. The other side seems to be diarrhea forever. And it's like 51 to 50%, we have it like neck and neck. It's just wild how close every single presidential election is Obama over McCain, which is like the last time there was anything described as a landslide. Obama got 52% of the vote. So like that's massive landslide. So just like those types of numbers in response to the debate are pretty staggering that it
Starting point is 00:46:48 would be 63 to 37. Also 31% of Trump supporters said he lost. Wow. Which is- But they don't care. But they don't care. Of course not. Not that they're changing anything, but that is, you know, I think noteworthy.
Starting point is 00:47:03 So it's just funny in comparison with the moment after the debate where Trump came out and he first of all, he's un-miked for some reason. And he's just yelling at reporters. We had a great debate. I won. Clearly, I'm getting polling 86. Some are saying 92. I've heard the number 82.
Starting point is 00:47:26 That's like how old we think he is. Yeah, I was wondering because they were in Philadelphia. I was wondering if he was like looking at the last time, like at the banners in the arena at the last time, the 76ers like won anything was like the eighties. Sports joke, self-own for self-loathing Sixers fan. But yeah, I don't know. I guess it wasn't a total Kaiser Soze situation. There was there was a fair and balanced Newsmax snap poll of people who were on Newsmax during the debate.
Starting point is 00:48:01 And 93% of them said he won. So I will say something that is kind of surprising to me this election, just even going into it at all is how underfunded and just not at all funded a lot of graphic design and artistic messaging is going into the election. It is wild how little money that we were talking on yesterday's episode. Andrew T was on and he was talking about how it is mind boggling how bad Elon Musk is at posting when he has enough money to just hire away the entire Abbott Elementary writers room to write every single one of his tweets for him. Like he could just be a narcissist. He's not going to do that. I know. But like, yeah, the amount that they could put into content and yet they like the graphic design,
Starting point is 00:48:57 like you're saying, any of the writing Jason Derulo on TikTok where they had like remember what he just like went from doing he the reason he became like he had this big like leap again in popularity was because he was like hiring camera crews to make his TikToks. Yeah. Well, and then even on the nonprofit scale, like in my world where we have like, you know, groups of nonprofits that come in like ask comedians to like put together a thing or ask artists to put together a thing It's just not happening like on the same scale anywhere near the same scale as previous elections plural Yeah, they're like we got this we've seen Trump Trump just flies off the handle. So we're clearly a
Starting point is 00:49:38 Kendrick fan because he doesn't appreciate ghost writers Yeah, well I do wonder like how much of it is has to do with the sort of Rami Yusuf and Susan Sarandon and a bunch of folks just came out talking about McCarthyism in Hollywood. And a lot of these nonprofits are right now coping and managing Zionism and the sort of huge gag order on talking about genocide at all in Gaza has really rattled the arts in the nonprofit sector. And there's just folks that I thought would be working right now, like would be funded and would be putting out content and there'd be like
Starting point is 00:50:27 campaigning and conversation and there's just like nothing. Yeah. That's also why I'm not successful. It's because of my abilities. The gag order. Totally, totally. Free Pula Bee, please. Yes. Um, all right, let's take a quick break and we'll come back and we'll talk about the bees. And we're back. Are either of you fans of the network TV show 9-1-1? I am unfamiliar. I am undecided. All right. We're going to think we're going to come over. The New York Times and I are going to come over. We're going to make nachos for you. You can you can just tell us the ingredients that you're interested in. We'll
Starting point is 00:56:06 make nachos for you. We will watch the show with you. And actually, so that's not entirely true. You will watch the show while we watch you and take diligent notes of what you are doing during during the watching. And then we will feed the nachos to you while you kind of make up your mind and just relax. Only if you feed me with baby talk. Okay. Always. Never mind.
Starting point is 00:56:35 This focus group is kids. Let's get the fuck out of here. We don't want to learn. It's like Michael Barbaro. We changed our minds. So this is a trailer that has been playing across various sporting events and TV shows for the upcoming season of the TV show 911. And I guess I'll just play it for you guys. It's pretty, pretty good.
Starting point is 00:57:02 All right. It says the average human cannot survive 500 B stings. We see a single B joining a B tornado. 911, what is your emergency? Now, has there ever been a more effective piece of post-audio 9-1-1. What's your emergency? Bees! For me, it's all just less effective.
Starting point is 00:57:29 I just want to be out there saying I really prefer ants. Why didn't they make the case for bees over ants as a villain for this episode of 9-1-1? Really effective, really powerful, ants are really diligent. There is something going on. I'm sorry, go ahead, Jack. I was a little worried that that wasn't enough information and this is how I took this in.
Starting point is 00:57:56 First I saw the teaser and up next I just want to give you the full 30 seconds of an exclusive first look. Be NATO is coming to 9- coming to 911 on September 26th. Let's do it. 911, which emergency? All right. Come real. OK, so what happened there?
Starting point is 00:58:15 Not Phil Collins. Not Phil Collins. Yeah, and by the way, what they can feel coming in the air tonight, in case you were wondering. Peace! I just want to say I would be behind it, but I feel like if it was cicadas. We might be a little bit more scary.
Starting point is 00:58:31 And it is incumbent on them to change my mind and give me the details that will make me realize it should be bees instead of cicadas. So that opens with a tractor trailer, a Mack truck on Los Angeles highway, almost crushing a family. But then instead the boxes on the back tip over and slight buzzing sound truck was hauling 22 million killer fees. And if these to kill forty four thousand. Oh, not the guy for parenthood.
Starting point is 00:59:05 Fly away. Not likely. That's right. That's right. He said it. He said the name of the movie. He did. He looked up at the sky squinted and said, it's like a be NATO.
Starting point is 00:59:26 The part where they go and they'll just fly away. Not likely. What if they just fly away? Not likely. The Western fear of retaliation for colonialism. I was thinking about this too. Not likely. These bees are bent on revenge. They're savages and they didn't take the rule. They subscribe to Sharia law. They're bringing it.
Starting point is 00:59:56 Can we look at the name of the show? 9-1-1? 9-11? 9-11. Yeah. And it's just a bunch of flying things swarming towards a skyscraper. I want the next one to be about that elephant that like the woman who like was bad to the elephant and then it killed her and then it stomped her out at her funeral. Like I want that to be
Starting point is 01:00:19 their next enemy is that fucking dope ass elephant. It's just animals bent on revenge. I mean, I'm walking away from this really clear that bees are Muslim. Yeah. And I'm ready to claim my brethren. Yes. I do think bees are Muslim. I do. I agree with you.
Starting point is 01:00:39 I think they're very clean. They wash themselves like with the dew of flowers, like five times a day. Right. You know, unfairly maligned in the mainstream media in the West. Yeah. And make honey. Yeah. Or baklava. Oh, that's so true.
Starting point is 01:00:54 Really good at math. Yeah. That's what that's the scene that we're not seeing here is after they said they'll just fly away. No, they won't. And then the bees are like, listen, we've made quite a lot of contributions, right? Yeah, they put together a whole you know little mini trailer of all the things that Muslim bees have contributed to the world The FBI is always trying to get into their hives That's why they're called the FBI. They're trying to hide themselves. 72 virgin drones and one queen.
