Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Starting point is 00:01:57 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Top of the Morn Trend. Top of the Morn Trend. Top of the Morn Trend. Top of the Morn Trend. Top of the Morn Trend to ya. Ooh. The Trendbles instead of the Troubles.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Well, interesting time to bring that up, but yeah, sure. That's fun, right? That's still a fun thing to talk about. Yeah, man. That's what we like to do is take zeit or trend and then just kind of mash them up with just terrible times in history um but top of the morning trend uh to you to kendrick lamar uh to people celebrating saint patrick's day you celebrate i don't really i celebrate my nephew's birthday right but yeah i have now two times two days in a row not like people have
Starting point is 00:02:50 referenced that it was saint patrick's day uh on so on zeitgeist yesterday you were like you had like saint something or other written in the special you're like special day i was like street what and then today i was talking to someone and they just started doing the like top of the morning stuff and i was like uh-huh anyways i am irish though uh so there you go i'm not famously i'm jack you were miles and here are some of the things that are trending on this St. Patty's day, 2022 Chris Cuomo is trending because he is seeking $125 million in damages over his firing.
Starting point is 00:03:35 The Cuomo brothers seem to have an issue with saying that they are being canceled or their character is being assassinated. Yeah. And that's what scumbags say being canceled didn't was it andrew was like it's like the new stoning yeah yeah was that andrew or chris i don't know who said the stoning thing in particular i know andrew has been you know turning himself into a martyr ever since people were like, hey, you gotta stop being handsy with young people and asking
Starting point is 00:04:09 young women to get you a date who work for you when you're the fucking governor. Maybe. He's like, what the fuck? Now I know how Jesus felt. Yeah, right. This crown of thorns that lays upon my head the fuck are you talking
Starting point is 00:04:28 about you're indulging your worst impulses and your demonic behavior will be addressed his lawyer is arguing the network changed its ethics practices uh which okay so that's not them saying like and now suddenly he can't sexually harass people that's them saying that they let him have his brother on even though it was against their ethics and then they changed it back maybe oh you love me when my brother is everybody becomes a cuomo sexual but then i get creepy and some weird stuff comes to light and now you don't like okay so he's just feeling he's saying like you bent the rules for me before yeah what the heck hey what the heck here guys hey what the heck don't i got rights britney griner the wmba star there's a update that her detention has been extended for two months until may 19th according to a russian news agency
Starting point is 00:05:36 is there just like nothing that can be done like what what is i mean what can you do right there's no there are barely any diplomatic channels between the two countries so it's not like someone's like hey man can i highlight you really quick you know over there they're like we're like we're fighting right now so we're off this yeah that's why i think a lot of people are curious as to like you know this their britney grinder may find herself being a you know a piece like a pawn in this power game to try and leverage something by saying like well we have this athlete of yours you know uh maybe you need to be making concessions elsewhere or we can just
Starting point is 00:06:15 you know indefinitely detain this person yeah it's just fucking yeah it's just i couldn't think of a more fucked up time to get yourself you know find yourself being detained in russia as an american with who's like visible while all this shit's going on yeah and people are making a good point that like the one piece of information coming out of russia that they're trusting is uh the circumstances surrounding her detention pen yeah yeah and uh well what's she doing with that weed pen you see that a lot of people too i'm like hold on your first thing is in thinking of how much of an opportunity this is for the russian government to to frame her not on this one that's not like that that's not possible too okay Right. Because black all black people smoke weed.
Starting point is 00:07:06 But I think also, too, for somebody who who's been going out there as a person of color, they know. They're not they're not they're not out here. It's just like the US. They're like, no, I go there. I get my check. I get the fuck out because they don't pay enough in the WNBA. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Which I feel like maybe that should be a secondary uh you know analysis happening which is like do you know why these people go out there because they offer them real money to play a sport that they love whereas out here it's like exploitative right kanye west has been suspended from instagram for 24 hours after directing a racial slur at Trevor Noah. He was at the game with one of his kids just the other night. So that's not bothering him. There's also something where Julia Fox's ex was like, he wouldn't hurt a fly. He's harmless.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Like, that's not really the kind of just don't say anything. You don't need to be like, don't worry about this guy who's saying all kinds of wild shit uh about his wife it's like pete davidson is gonna get my wife hooked on drugs yeah please this i mean i can't how long till like america learns how to be like some people are like in need of help and it's time to stop treating everything they say like they are doing fine right we just have this thing i think we're just obsessed with watching people like burn up upon re-entry into the atmosphere when they reach the heights of stardom we're like yeah fucking burn up in the atmosphere and then we'll feel bad about it later on and granted i'm not saying like all of our empathy needs to be going towards kanye west but like jesus the way people talk about it later on. And granted, I'm not saying like all of our empathy needs to be going towards Kanye West, but like, Jesus, the way people talk about it,
Starting point is 00:08:46 it's just sort of like, yeah, dude, I don't know, man. There's nothing wrong here. All right, let's take a quick break. We'll come back and talk some Dolly Parton. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church.
Starting point is 00:09:12 And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed
Starting point is 00:09:50 at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me for I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:11:00 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago, when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working
Starting point is 00:11:42 undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life.
Starting point is 00:12:08 It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120.
Starting point is 00:12:24 She's terrified Should we wake her up? Absolutely not What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it That was live audio of a woman's nightmare This machine is approved and everything?
Starting point is 00:12:40 You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago We're not hurting people There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:12:59 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and we're back and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is saying we won't pull Dolly Parton from the ballot would the lady want what if we did the thing she
Starting point is 00:13:21 doesn't want so what's their fucking like argument to say we're not going to pull you from the ballot nothing we like just we want her to be on there oh okay we're in awe of dolly's brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for induction into the rock and roll hall of fame against her will that that's the part that they left off pretty much yeah right in addition to her incredible talent as an artist her humility is another reason dolly is a beloved icon by millions of fans around the world one thing we don't respect about her her her agency as a human being. So we'll just be keeping her on there.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Some say she's iconic because she does things on her own terms and cannot be coerced or influenced, but whatever, whatever. Come on. Yeah. Dolly, we want you there. We're going to make it happen. Don't be worried. You and Eminem, great class this year.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Yeah. So. So they were basically like like that is so cute that she's saying that like just the most sexist like right response possible oh that it makes her so much more adorable that she's saying that but uh she's just being humble y'all she doesn't really mean we love that and that's what we love about you girl oh bless you you're a saint anyway get that sorry motherfucker the posters were already printed right yeah so this reeks of the posters are already printed yeah uh energy here yeah 100 jumanji is being turned into a theme park ride
Starting point is 00:15:00 this is a partnership between merlin entertainments uh which is the operators of the uk's alton towers oh alton towers what what is alton towers that's austin powers's cousin damn i didn't know that i have no idea what the fuck alton towers is it is a resort in a theme park and resort in, uh, where is that? Staffordshire, England,
Starting point is 00:15:28 near the village of Alton. The park is operated by Merlin. It has a theme park, water park, spa, mini golf, and hotel complex. The shit kind of looks like a stately manor.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Hmm. Uh, combined with Thorpe Park, Madame Tussauds, and of course, Legoland, um, to bring Jumanji to life with a new range of experiences the first of these is the world's first jumanji ride opening in april of this year at the gardaland resort in italy garda land that isn't garda police this is police that's what
Starting point is 00:16:03 they call them in ireland right yeah that's right garda yeah maybe i'm just thinking about that yeah you got you got ireland on the brain man oh brother we're gonna talk about it a little bit more in a second and then a second ride is also in development at a separate location for a 2023 launch is jumanji like wild popular in europe or something i mean the movies do it does fucking numbers so i get it from that very narrow like hey that thing make money make other things derivative properties to exploit the momentum but let's be real i growing up in la like with magic mountain they tried to make all kinds of shit like about a movie we had fucking batman the ride should have nothing
Starting point is 00:16:46 the fucking ride has nothing to do with i mean the shit around it kind of looks like gotham but when you're on a ride you're not like this ride is batman i'm batman you know what i mean like we're on a fucking roller coaster so for a jumanji one i'm like curious if it's is it going to be like a jungle cruise type shit but that's already somebody else's shit or is this gonna be a green painted roller coaster or is it a like a fucking more of a immersive like you know virtual reality kind of thing right are you are have you watched the new jumanjis the new i've seen the first not the jumanji but i have seen jumanji the original with kirsten dunst and david allen greer and robin williams and this new the first one of right new jia because the new one is like instead of a
Starting point is 00:17:33 board game is a video game right isn't that the yeah and they're finding and like they become these characters that are in it um which is fun it's a that's why i'm like i'm not i'm like yeah it's entertaining uh but again how you make that a ride that's not very clear like the shit like that harry potter ride that we have at universal right that makes sense you know what i mean like they're trying to maintain this reality of this like the cinematic world where in my mind this is giving me like superman the ride big superman the ride energy which which is just a roller coaster dude it's like the kind that it's not even a roller coaster it's the shit that like you know it's like an l-shaped fucking like a curved frame where a cart just goes from the bottom it just gets very high and then you just fall back down
Starting point is 00:18:22 just like superman but there's i guess the difference is superman is at the top so when you get the top you're like oh shit it's superman and then it's like ah but that shit has nothing to do with superman yeah that's i think that feels lazy yeah it may it like upsets the child within me which feels like if we're gonna do it like i should be able to fucking like it should be the feeling of me flying around and blowing shit up with my eyes yeah but you never know you know avatar the ride is supposed to be the best ride ever uh i i gotta say cars land in uh california adventure and uh at disneyland is like pretty cool even before i was a huge cars fan but that's just autopia jack just what's autopia autopia is what the cars ride at disneyland used to be oh yeah but they they built out a whole
Starting point is 00:19:15 world like it i feel like it's something where if if they can create an immersive like universe that has enough like the land it's oh yeah cars land has like a whole section of that's a california adventure yeah and like the cars are driving around i was gonna say walking around me and my non-cars land brain this guy's a cop he said the cars were walking around um and finally we do want to uh check in uh and just you know give people some inspiration of maybe what not to do uh if you do celebrate st patrick's day the takeout put together some interviews with bartenders who worked st patrick's day in chicago and it it sounds like you're talking to people who like are recounting
Starting point is 00:20:06 war experience they were like they're like yeah i did three tours in booze vietnam in 68 yeah um so booze vietnam one year there was a man who kept screaming every time he took a shot i know that guy got into a fight with his girlfriend yep made her cry then got into a screaming match with his bros then reached behind our bar and stole one of our water pitchers and started drinking directly out of it all in the span of like 20 minutes that's the best part human tornado so um one year st patrick's day fell On the nicest day of the year so far And a Saturday The bar and streets were pure mayhem
Starting point is 00:20:49 Two strangers had sex in our Attic next to tubs of ranch dressing So that's just something to Keep in mind generally Wait that's from Megan Gailey? So that says Megan Gailey six years of St. Patrick's Day Service I do not know if it's the same Megan Gailey but if it is uh you
Starting point is 00:21:06 know truly a legend but that's something to keep in mind both like as something not to do on saint patrick's day or just like any day of your life but also keeping in mind when you order wings at a bar is where where that ranch dressing is sitting um because i mean i i'm saying like you you want to get in that ranch dressing that's also like hot at first i was like is this a bar is this someone's weird house like man these damn people got up our attic where we hold our ranch and they fucking up there the attic but i don't know that's because i'm not familiar with most structures or names and then even the ones who are like positive about it they uh they sound like bane talking about in like embracing the darkness my feelings towards saint pat's in
Starting point is 00:21:52 chicago are that it's disgusting but you can't fight it and it can be fun it could be the worst shift of your life but you could also make a ton of money pay rent in a day it used to make me really anxious until i kind of developed and if you can't beat them join them mentality release yourself to the chaos dani galgos uh five years of saint pat's experience all right release yourself to the chaos is a good uh good piece of advice i think just in general oh hell yeah wow I still think of this person who's screaming every time he took a shot and I'm
Starting point is 00:22:31 just trying to is it that is it like a you know some kind of like just primal scream after it or it's just like we're doing a shot or I just like the idea of taking a shot and be like I'm picturing that no knowing what i know about uh having you know been around this sorts of
Starting point is 00:22:55 these sorts of uh drinkers throughout my life i would say it was he was treating it like each shot was a rep he was doing in the gym. And then the thing works with the woman that he's with. It's like, hey, can you tone it down like Rick? And he's like, really? And they get in a fight. She starts crying, leaves. The bros are going like, bro, what the fuck are you doing?
Starting point is 00:23:21 That's your fiance. He's like, okay, St okay say pattern's day give me this water pitcher all right it's all it all it all blends together now yeah amazing work from from that young young man um truly uh maybe talk to somebody uh about about where you're at bro yeah uh i also just want to give a nice update from what uh one of our zeitgeist listeners who pointed out that uh you know we were talking about whether it's okay to charge people for like coming over ordering a pizza you know uh or you know charge someone after a dinner party i think we fell on the no you can't you can't charge someone after the dinner
Starting point is 00:24:06 party if you're gonna like be like hey you guys want to go have these on something right maybe that's okay um but this person let us know that their family was once charged after leaving a wedding like they they were handed a bill as they were leaving a wedding. Oh. What country was this in? I don't know, but that's all I got for you. Yeah. I mean, hmm. That's not a good look, for sure. You're leaving, and then you hit them with the bill?
Starting point is 00:24:37 You went to fucking Kenny Rogers Roasters or something? Right. I don't know why I brought up Kenny Rogers Roasters. I don't think that place exists. But I mean, I that place exists, but, uh, I mean, I know in Japan, right?
Starting point is 00:24:47 Like sometimes you'll like part of going to a wedding is like, you get a ticket almost to help bring the cost down. Yeah. That makes sense. But that's like, but that's culturally built in. So like, you know,
Starting point is 00:25:00 that's kind of, you, you know, you got a ticket, but afterwards is fucking, that's violent. Right. Yeah, that's probably not okay to be like, open bar, psych. I believe you get your ass kicked for doing something like that.
Starting point is 00:25:16 For doing something like that. Yeah. As Diedrich Bader once said. Yeah. So that is from Schweitz, at schweitz underscore ay so um you know if it wasn't in the in the u.s or like the culture that you are accustomed to let us know but otherwise we have to give an official that's fucked up that's fucking trash also i think if you're handed a bill like that it should be expected that the person who's receiving the bill can just flip
Starting point is 00:25:46 a table and ruin your wedding. Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? I'd be like, Oh, you know what? Actually,
Starting point is 00:25:51 I'm not paying this. And also fuck this stupid little couple over here. I just came because I heard there was an open bar and there wasn't. So this is all lies, all cap cap in here. And then you jump through the wedding cake, the dude in the november rain video i wonder if he's killing it with the references but you remember that right the dude who just jumps i think because it starts raining um the way he though that jump though it's like burned into my mind yeah because the guy isn't
Starting point is 00:26:34 he like trying to like spear tackle the wedding cake yeah it's it's weird it seems like that was what the direction was ahead of the stunt but i think he like kind of goes in sideways and yeah because he doesn't want to like go ahead first um but i think i i think there's actually an article where somebody chased down like that guy to like find out like what so what was the was the thinking like what what were you trying to convey what was the director trying to convey in that moment right so you know more on that mystery later i'll try and do the research um yeah and they look for people who are uh are younger listeners sorry for bringing up the ancient people of our time check out the november rain guns and roses video. Cause just let us know what you think of that cake dive.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Video is pretty good though. Uh, all right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Thursday, St. Patrick's day. Uh,
Starting point is 00:27:34 we are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show until then be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves, get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. to yourselves, get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye.
