Starting point is 00:01:57 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Trend of Thieves. by Diet Coke. shay jackson jr oh yeah yeah the fucking copaganda flick yeah kind of i mean they're bad people for sure it just it just makes it it's like goodfellas but uh yeah yeah i mean like it's got the good uh good kid mad city trailer yep yep yep i saw that okay anyways i thought that's what you're referencing when you came up with Trend of Thieves. You know what's funny? His Gerard Butler's fucking character name? Detective Big Nick O'Brien.
Starting point is 00:02:53 That's right, bro. Let's go. That's how I got my nickname. It's like one of those movies I saw just, I think, on a plane or just randomly being like, oh, yeah, this thing. And I just threw it on without knowing what the title was just knowing like the details whatever it doesn't matter
Starting point is 00:03:09 yeah anyways I'm Jack that's Miles and I'm Big Nick O'Brien these are some of the things that are trending Big Nick oh man what a great name for that guy Big nick o'brien
Starting point is 00:03:27 uh bodega boys trending because the art is no more it seems uh we have confirmation from desus uh for people who don't know desus and merrill if you know them from their showtime show or viceland show it's off the strength of the bodega boys podcast which is one of i think our favorite podcasts all time all time greats of the medium yeah i it's like it's funny uh open mike eagle just tweeted he said if jesus and meryl ends before i get to make a rainbow it will end up being my villain origin story it will be the ego injury that makes me a true menace i'll make the world regret it but for real don't go yeah the the the podcast isn't happening but yeah it is maybe maybe one one other day but you hear this a lot about podcasts where people are forced to like where you you find out like
Starting point is 00:04:23 oh they weren't lifelong friends they just like kind of came together because they were both funny people on twitter yeah um i guess that's most podcasts so i guess you just hear hear it sometimes well i think it's funny even uh past guests uh you know bridget marie todd uh bridget todd is at bridget marie even said i hope these are both doing okay many years of cranking out a show or podcast as a creative partnership is a lot of pressure and work, work, work, and emotional work. No show is worth your peace of mind.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Don't forget there are humans behind the content we love to consume. Except this show, Jack and I are not humans. We were made in a lab and we will talk till our throats bleed. Okay. Oh, I'm a robot. Big Nick O'Brien.
Starting point is 00:05:01 I'm Big Nick O'Brien. But yeah, it's tough. I think a lot of people speculated like i remember on the like the subreddit people were like is one of them trying to fucking fuck to show up versus the other i don't know i'm not it's not worth speculating i figured it things can't be easy when you're like doing a cable show and be like what about my other podcast is there times their money yeah so it'll just just wait 40 years for the seven hour documentary by peter jackson that shed the light on it and we learn it wasn't anyone's fault right and it's not called get back it's called get smacked yeah get smacked the desus
Starting point is 00:05:38 and meryl story but yeah that that was i think very that even if you're not a big beatles fan that one's like instructional to just watch some of it you don't have to watch all eight hours uh if you're not a big beatles fan but it's like they like still love each other they're just like they're like these built-in resentments that probably like fueled part of their like creative process and like it's just there's no getting around it and it's not anyone's fault and everybody can just chill the fuck out i mean should we tell them jack what's that about this show yeah that we're breaking up we're breaking up to start an even
Starting point is 00:06:15 stronger one that will go even yeah okay we can't do that to you sorry my ego won't allow me to not talk every day i'm soon and that's why you guys are in luck fauci is trending he's gonna retire at the end of biden's term i don't go home fauci go home you fucking loser your post is probably their headline right now yeah i mean it's very again it feels just like, you know, with COVID coming back, like the wave is cresting for this latest round of COVID. It feels like people are ready to start blaming Fauci again. Maybe now more than ever. Maybe get mad at the people who insisted a vaccination only strategy for a fucking pandemic it was gonna work but vaccinate and get back out there folks it's definitely not like a thing where you're like oh
Starting point is 00:07:13 shit man he's cut he's you know he's he's cutting the old career off early my man is 81 he's 82 like he's 80 he'll be 82 he's older than byron his motherfucker has like a zero inbox policy too it's like come on man oh my god he does that's what like i remember he zeroes out his inbox this is this is like the beginning of the pandemic but i remember people being like he will get back to you no matter what like at four in the morning yeah um yeah so i don't know that's wild okay well look do your thing you're 82 years old and i think we should normalize motherfuckers not being as hyper important decision making roles uh well into their 80s not to say that that held anthony fowltee back in any way but no you know y'all don't gotta work that long you know what i
Starting point is 00:08:02 mean make it probably did yeah maybe maybe like have some smart young people who are constantly studying under him apprentices uh instead of parentheses yes and the person who will take over for me a spry 73 right that's how america will do it um heat wave in europe it's hitting 100 in the uk wow it's hitting 113 in france um or as they describe it 38 and 41 um respectively but uh that's nothing come on I don't need shit man um that it's it sounds terrible um there's like wildfires too in France um this is just you know what we're gonna be seeing more
Starting point is 00:08:56 and more of as sea levels rise uh the summers dry out summers get hotter I was just thinking back uh I guess there was a there was a hot one about six years ago and i remember like somebody dropped this book that was like the big stink about like the hottest summer of all time in uh in london and that summer reached 94 degrees fahrenheit oh shit like that was that was what they were like unthinkable right then um hey gotta stay cool out there you know for me i don't mean i don't know
Starting point is 00:09:35 like i'm sure i've seen that there's like been guidance from like the nhs and like places like that were like how to survive like stay in a fucking dark room, please. If you don't have AC, do what you gotta do to stay cool. But yeah, that's the thing I used to do. Take a big ass towel, fucking wring that shit out. And if you want to get wild with it, put that shit in the fucking refrigerator.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Or even put ice packs near your arteries and shit between your legs and stuff like that. That'll help. Oddly enough, it's not that I grew up in a place that was not built for heat waves. I just had parents that didn't want to put the fucking
Starting point is 00:10:14 AC on ever. So I was like, what the fuck, mom? I'm like, I'm built different. I'm overeating. He's like, I'm fine. And I'm like, well, give me my wet cape they describe it as not believing in air conditioning because i had a my grandfather didn't believe in air conditioning which always confused i mean i think that's how it's framed to you as a kid
Starting point is 00:10:37 when you're like uh this technology isn't a fucking belief system like i didn't ask you what your philosophical stance yeah i it. I said, I'm fucking hot. Can we turn this on so I can be comfortable? The answer is always no. Alright, let's take a quick break. We'll come back and we'll have Becca Ramos tell us why
Starting point is 00:10:58 Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson are trending. Why are they? I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions. Like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Starting point is 00:12:22 Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner.
Starting point is 00:12:41 The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss a hundred percent of the shots you never take? Yeah. Rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:13:05 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil.
Starting point is 00:13:28 I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire?
Starting point is 00:13:46 Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that.
Starting point is 00:14:16 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this?
Starting point is 00:14:47 We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Alright, well
Starting point is 00:15:16 we are bringing in super producer Becca Ramos to tell us about the situation that is happening with Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson. Hello, hello. Hello, hello. My favorite thing, internet drama.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Yeah. Is it juicy? I feel like it's pretty juicy, but it's also just very on par with Kardashianism, right? My other belief system you know the devil works hard but christiana works harder marketing arm is just boom boom boom boom boom um if you haven't been hip to it you know obviously the kardashians have their new show which is like a more elevated version of keep you over the kardashians the kardashians on hulu
Starting point is 00:16:05 okay the season finale was like a few weeks ago and it ended with like addressing the tristan thompson you know chloe kardashian baby mama drama which happened last fall like i think it was october november that he aired out his own dirty laundry on the internet before chatting with Khloe. Being like, hey, I'm being sued for paternity by this woman that I don't think I got pregnant. But I have found out that I definitely did. And she is pregnant with my child. Sorry, Khloe, for publicly embarrassing you. Embarrassing period because you couldn't call her?
Starting point is 00:16:44 Yeah, right. Which is kind of what this final episode of Kardashians was discussing. It was kind of like giving you the behind the scenes of what happened
Starting point is 00:16:51 in the Kardashian clan. And the whole season is kind of showing you like Khloe and Tristan are like mending their relationship. And there's that like famous soundbite
Starting point is 00:17:00 of Kim being like, yeah, I'm very proud of Khloe for like taking him back after he publicly embarrassed her. But she really put her heart out there. She really wanted to do it for her family. And then it's like, boom, boom, how embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:17:15 He's very publicly pregnant with another woman, cheating on you for the umpteenth time. So now, that's all background to say. How old is their child? Four. True was four years old so for four years she's been dealing with him cheating a million and two times taking him back god knows why literally publicly fighting a basically child for cheating on her man with um yeah i remember that right table kylie's best friend yeah she was like what 21 at
Starting point is 00:17:46 the time and she got mad at her and yeah yeah instead of getting mad at the man who's had a history of cheating on you and is also the adult in that scenario like yeah i think she was 21 jordan was so i digress all of this comes down to the boiling of it. PR comes out now that they're expecting a child together via surrogate, Chloe and Tristan. Originally, before I think it was disclosed how far along the surrogate was, people were like, wow, you really like chose to have another baby with this man after he publicly embarrassed you right but now news is kind of i don't know if settled down is the right word but it's become more clear that the baby was already in motion when the news came out uh seven or i guess like i don't know a year ago uh not a year ago my math is bad when the baby mama news came out it was clear the baby was already in motion so the boy is seven months old right now the other baby mama and so i think it's not fair to be so mean to chloe to be like how dare you have another baby with this man because it's very clear that
Starting point is 00:18:56 she didn't know when she had planned this other pregnancy that he was having another child but all i have to say is history you, you know, read the lines. I don't know. Read the trend lines. Yeah, read the trend lines. I'm not really sure that it was smart for you to ever plan this pregnancy with him to begin with.
Starting point is 00:19:14 But like, I guess True's always wanted a brother or a child, you know, a sibling. I think she really wanted a boy. I think based on the Kardashian episode, sounds like she's having a girl. But all of that has culminated to even today where Tristan was seen holding hands with another woman in Greece. So it's like, but it seems that Khloe and Tristan haven't been dating since that episode aired, which was like in the fall. I mean, the episode aired recently, but the filming of it was in the fall.
Starting point is 00:19:43 So I don't think she's been dating him they're just having a baby together so it's messy but I mean that's I love that I love that for the baby yeah yeah we're not together very healthy stable for the baby you know love that man you're right baby's gonna be loved lots of money
Starting point is 00:20:00 I'm sorry Chris Jenner does a fantastic job of of centering all of this dysfunction in a way where people absolutely are like, I don't know what's going on with clothes or whatever. And she's like, I've got these people fucking hooked. Just keep ruining
Starting point is 00:20:16 your life, baby. And the checks won't stop. You think she wrote this storyline? You think she was like, oh, this is going to drive people crazy? I heard she has the head writer from Scandal. Yeah, because they couldn't let this news out when they found out that he was having another baby, you know? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:33 So then it wouldn't be so dramatic. But now it's even more dramatic that they're finding out now after that episode airs. Kris Jenner works for the CIA. I mean, she's running these ops on people. The CIA works for Chris Jenner. Yeah, exactly. She's like... Because they're following Tristan. It's like, oh, the news already dropped. People have put the
Starting point is 00:20:51 timeline together being like, okay, it's dramatic, but it's not that dramatic. And then, boom, Tristan's holding hands with somebody in Greece. She gotta keep the news story going. It could have ended over the weekend. The CIA does a lot of work in Greece, by the way. I'm just saying. Yeah, exactly. They have traditionally.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I like how she's like, she's like, she pulls up, Kris Jenner pulls up to Langley at the CIA headquarters. She's like, yeah, I just have some notes. Y'all don't really know how to run a fucking PSYOP, okay? And I have notes for everything. But I love it. You love to read it. It's fun. It's fun to watch all the TikTok takes.
Starting point is 00:21:23 There's so many people like dissecting the episode, being like, oh my God, I feel so bad for Chloe. But I just, you know, I feel bad for Chloe in the sense of like, you know, I'm sure she has a lot of daddy issues, but I can't feel bad for a millionaire. You know, like I think at the end of the day, you're making your own choices. You got a very large family that supports you. Y'all figure it out. A hundred million.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Like the, yeah. Like she's, 100 million like the yeah like she's the they're they're she's like edging on billionaire probably right yeah like their whole estate all of them combined they're like way over billionaires you know like can only feel so bad i also like don't like even if she knew and like did it it's like that that's fine. If she's like, I have an army of people who helped me raise my kid. I don't need this person. Exactly. Like that's also fine. I like the phrasing.
Starting point is 00:22:15 If I have an army to help me raise my kid versus I don't have to raise my kid actually personally. Right. It's like there are eight people I've hired to interact with my child at all times that i don't have three women that look like me okay just to help bodies of pain yeah of me that's actually smart man that's all right that's a good idea that i need to incorporate hold on central casting i need someone to play big nick o'brien dad mode yeah but there's so many i feel like takes that are also like you could not pull this information out of me like i would not be able to embarrass myself on such a
Starting point is 00:22:52 public stage to be like yes i'm having another child i'm disrespecting myself so much to have another child with a man who clearly does not care about me but like you said c'est la vie she knows she has a team of people who will take care so it's like it's the man is but a vessel of procreation at this point i think so there you go but there's my corner well thank you so much for joining us helping us dissect those things like trist is he wait basketball season is not what i was truly the mind map meme of catching all the numbers. I totally missed the fact that he was a top
Starting point is 00:23:30 four pick for some reason. Honestly, he is so divorced from his basketball image. It's like he's a basketball player. That's his side job to being a whore. Bye. Bye. Alright, a couple other things that are
Starting point is 00:23:48 trending before we let you go um we got Rosita Rosita is trending um this is a Sesame Street character um who apparently has racist tendencies this is such
Starting point is 00:24:04 a fucking like yeah when you say that out here like wait what what on the show no there's sesame place is like this theme park outside of philly that's like all sesame street stuff and like they have like you know parades or like the characters walk around on like you know kind of like a main street parade and the people in costumes and stuff and this mom uploaded a video of her two like of the two little black girls who are so excited to meet rosita and rosita is coming down the thing is like waving to like these white kids that are right next to them and when they get to them yeah when they get to these two little girls rosita like waves them off like a fucking pitcher
Starting point is 00:24:40 who's been told to throw a fastball down the middle like no no no we're not doing that and just keeps it moving and you could see these kids go from excited to like what the fuck was that their mom like what the fuck like truly you could see yeah like when you could see a four-year-old's face and you know i know literally what they're thinking right now is what the fuck was that um so this mom was like this is fucked up what's going on sesame street came out in a statement. They said that Rosita performer did not intentionally ignore the girls and that the no hand gesture in the video was, quote, a response to multiple requests from others in the crowd for the character to hold their child for a photo. The children didn't look like they said, hey, can you hold me for a photo so my parent can take a picture? It sounded like they said, I want to just touch the costume and maybe shake a hand or some shit like
Starting point is 00:25:25 that. Right. So while they said this, there's this, there's nothing to this story. Other people started posting some other parents too, of black children had shown that this isn't the first time this has happened where they seemingly these kids of color just got curved when
Starting point is 00:25:41 they were trying to get some acknowledgement. So they're like there's like a like more than four videos now of like different performers doing this kind of shit and it's pretty oh it's not it's not always rosita it's like very various no there's like some other like grover looking motherfucker i don't know what they're called look i'm so old if they're not i if it looked like elmo but it felt like too gigantic to be elmo but then again i it makes sense that you wouldn't oh yeah elmo hit roast bird man it's weird it's creepy now he's got a deep voice and he's got uh acne and he's six two and now it's
Starting point is 00:26:18 like nah man elmo ain't fucking with kids of color fam to the side like whoa um yeah so now a lot of people are like this is pretty fucked up yeah this this this place is uh this park is in just outside of philadelphia you know i mean i believe it anywhere else but not philly man no not philly i mean not anywhere in the united states honestly but yeah it's truly it's fucked up and like there's people who are like man these this this mom is like overreacting and you're kind of like yo i don't even have kids but i looked at that and i was like yo you're not about to fucking ignore my kid yeah that was clear as fuck so yeah people are being like unmask them but it's like just figure out your fucking policy or whatever this gets your shit together sesame
Starting point is 00:27:05 place um two videos that are worth watching drew barrymore we'll just tell you what happens the idol you can go watch it and then we'll talk about it on tomorrow's trending this is the new show from the weekend and sam levinson the dude behind uh euphoria so go watch that trailer we'll talk about it let's look dark it's fucking weird um drew barrymore on the other hand just a ray of sunshine in a dark time uh it respond she goes outside and is getting rained on and is responding to said rain like it is giving her life uh like and also like she might be having a mental health crisis of some sort um but in the best way possible uh yeah so it's a good it's a good video um drew barrymore like cranked up to 12 on a scale one to ten oh yeah it's like what is that sh Shawshank redemption?
Starting point is 00:28:06 Yeah. You know what I mean? Like rain hitting that hard. A lot of people didn't realize she had just crawled through a mile of foul smelling shit to breathe. It's like, I'm trying to think of the last time visually I've seen someone respond to rain like that.
Starting point is 00:28:20 And I, I think it's Shawshank redemption. Yeah. It's a, it's pure joyshank redemption yeah it's a it's pure joy um yeah maybe this will be all of us pretty soon one as climate change you know right we all have our mouths open for a sip pushing each other out of the way to get to a raindrop to get to a nice big juicy rain i called that i called dibs on that raindrop that one yeah anyways those are some of the things that are trending on this Monday July
Starting point is 00:28:48 18th 2022 we're back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the fucking vaccine get the booster whatever you're available for get it wear a mask if your city tells
