Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:57 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of who trend weaver uh that that's a song of course by gary zeit that short show titles courtesy of cruddy holly yep i believe you can get me through the that's a good that's a good just simple bass line oh i love that one also i think i only know that really from wayne's world otherwise i would not know what the song was i feel like i knew it by the time it hit but like that definitely made it iconic yeah like wayne's world was so iconic to the point that like every every wayne's world quote sucked after like six months you're just like dude stop dude swing you're not doing swing anymore yeah then it became cool again and now it's cool and i do it all the time
Starting point is 00:02:57 swing anyway so what's up swing um and i'm just doing my thing. Swing, swing, swing. Oh, shit. I'm Jack. That is Miles. This is the last recording of the week. Extra loopy for y'all. Yeah, yeah. We know how you like them.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Extra sloppy. Extra sloppy. Real shit bags. What does he say? I'm a real. I was a real piece of shit. That's right. Anyways, I was referencing Billy Madison.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Oh, okay. The sloppy. Yeah. Lady, you're scaring us. Okay. LA County.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Yep. Where we are. Are we sure that's not why it's trending? We didn't just work out where we are. LA. Well, if you click the trends on Twitter, it says LA County where Miles and Jack live.
Starting point is 00:03:46 That's the number one reason. Number two, they don't give a fuck what that judge said. LA County is still going to require masks on public transit, indoor transportation hubs like, I don't know, airports. Uh-oh. Okay. I feel like this is going to get weird. Because now, like like county to county like I bet they're gonna people you'll have people who will be chest
Starting point is 00:04:09 out flying into LA being like I ain't wearing a mask in here and they're like you have to and they're like not according to the CDC and like no this is LA County and they're like what they're gonna have to open up a Supreme Court in the LA County just to determine states versus federal uh jurisdiction yeah uh but
Starting point is 00:04:30 yeah this is i mean this is already we're now we're starting to see it's like okay well now that it's not mandated uh local municipalities just take it away from here do what you think's best. Yeah, yeah. All right. Well, you know, shout out to LA County and the people who can now feel okay riding public transit. Shout outs to Bare Minimums. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:56 MTG, Marjorie Taylor Greene is trending because she is on trial right now. They're having a hearing yeah when i'm on trial why am i on trial what am i on trial here um so answer that question why she on trial because uh she participated in an attempted coup of the u.s government what little old me it just like i just pulled one sentence from the article i don't have the um life force within my body to pay attention to the ins and outs of what's happening in this but just one sentence at random from the cnn article uh she also said
Starting point is 00:05:42 she didn't recall if she herself had posted a handful of tweets that appeared on her account where she claimed the 2020 election was illegitimate so she's like i can't prove that i tweeted that i was hacked i don't know i don't i don't recall okay you know what that's enough from me uh this person can't even answer very direct questions um i guess this will count but yeah i mean if they find if they're you know they're using that clause in the the 14th amendment that's essentially saying hey you fuck around and do some insurrection stuff you can't hold office uh so we'll see what happens i know matt gates is there in support in that hearing for some reason
Starting point is 00:06:21 um so i'm still waiting for. This kind of team, let's let everybody get away with shit. Yeah. For the foreseeable future. Yeah. Why don't we just like, if someone's sorry enough,
Starting point is 00:06:34 why can't that be like good enough? Right? That's what I think we should, we should do to people we find guilty. When's that shoe going to drop on him? Never. Probably never. I'm like off waiting for shoes to drop.
Starting point is 00:06:51 I'm good with the ones I got on because I'm running away from this as fast as I can. Just sitting here on the sneaker app waiting for shoes to drop. Yeah. And I feel like just like using that sneaker app just like you're not gonna see the thing you want this is got him got him nope it's gonna be like hey man sorry about that uh you know it's gonna take a lot to dismantle this system sorry um so anyways uh it'll be maybe maybe this is like our people my guess would be people in various institutions
Starting point is 00:07:28 are like this is a pre-trial for Donald Trump and his ability to hold office. I just made that up but that feels like an angle that they would take. Oh of course of course I mean if you write any headline that alludes to the fact that even the notion that Trump might not be president and here's why. Yeah. You're going to get the clicks. You look in the money.
Starting point is 00:07:52 And Dolly Parton has a theory on why Donald Trump will not be president. I'm like, OK, hold on. Say what? Push a T. New album. Drop. Mm hmm. Almost dry. is that what it's called yeah
Starting point is 00:08:07 I think it's almost dry yeah it's so far listening to a couple songs on it the first track
Starting point is 00:08:17 Brambleton immediately caught my ear I transported to like 2002 03 like Lord Willin just came out the clips first
Starting point is 00:08:25 album because the second i heard the track i'm like this is a neptune's beat or at the very least pharrell yeah that was actually kind of impressive um but it turns out it was pharrell and kanye but i love pusha t i was such a fan of like coke dealer rapping when i was in high school and nobody really did it better than clips back then. You think he raps about that? Is that kind of what you see? What's that track? What do you think Diet Coke is about? Because if I remember, there was a track where he said, bagging up grams at the Hyatt though. The news called it crack. I called it Diet Coke. I remember that one. Yeah. Still does does like truly is like a creative writing uh you know project where you're supposed to write as much as you can on a single subject he's been doing that
Starting point is 00:09:14 his whole career and it's oh yeah he's one of the best rappers alive it's fucking crazy oh yeah um yeah i mean not very politically correct but like you said i move cane like a cripple you know that's so many rap there's so many line raps like some days i wasn't able there was always cane just non-stop coming out of this guy's mouth i mean that sounds like a motivational poster that's on the wall of a coke dealer right some days i wasn't able there was always cane huh yeah with like a a lion looking fierce yeah with white on its nose just a coked out lion like you can do it bro uh all right let's take a quick break and then we're gonna come back and
Starting point is 00:10:05 talk about this thing that was uh number one trending thing on google uh yesterday that uh i guess people are just finding out about called climate change oh cool the heck i'm jess casaveto executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups
Starting point is 00:10:49 and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. Like, if you're watching us, you have to tell us. Like, if you're out the window, you have to say, hey, I'm watching you outside of the window. Just, you know what? Listen to the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre. It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Lucha libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. Santos! Santos! Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the United States
Starting point is 00:14:06 to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts.
Starting point is 00:14:30 And we're back. And it is Earth Day. Google, you know, got their, dropped the hammer. The big influence that Google can wield is they they're doing a doodle um the doodle is a time lapse of um you know impacts of climate change on uh polar ice caps just receding glaciers like you wouldn't believe you're like oh no that happened in 20 years what happens in 20 more years there's not even receding glaciers like pusha t definitely has a line about receding glaciers that somehow oh i'm sure coke yeah yeah yeah the melting ice caps or you say something like uh i got more ice coming off this shelf than a melting glacier or something yeah you know you know I mean he doesn't whatever look we can workshop that um but they yeah and then you know today's Earth Day so they're keeping it up there
Starting point is 00:15:33 uh small quibble it doesn't look like the word Google um so what that what the fuck hey you're you're you ringing the existential alarm may have resonated if the fucking glacier had a G in it at least thank you and it revealed Google as the fucking glacier receded yes dum-dum or if you had planned ahead and had your name
Starting point is 00:15:58 underneath the glacier you knew was going to recede then we would have been talking about some artistry um no but shout out to them for doing this i mean it seems wild it's necessary change is is trending uh enough that like enough people are like wait what the heck is this what's going on we i mean i don't know when it gets to a point when we all have to look at people and be like okay so we gotta run up on this like factory right like is that the way
Starting point is 00:16:25 we're gonna have to ensure that shit's working like like fucking 300,000 people just waiting outside a fucking coal plant being like hey man y'all need to turn this shit off yeah like right now um does feel like that something some things like that need to happen like
Starting point is 00:16:41 community based uh pressure as opposed to um collective action yeah instead of corporations uh us just being like all right so you guys are gonna you're gonna handle this right you and and the administration you're gonna work together all right well they said they said we're good so yeah don't worry the guy i invite over who eats all of the food i put out and doesn't bring anything in said the next time he comes he'll figure it out even though every time he comes over he's fucking everything uh no they're not gonna save us and again america or earth help
Starting point is 00:17:15 is not on the way until we really figure out how to properly organize ourselves to it's it's really just disheartening because we constantly see researchers like putting themselves on the line you know risking arrest or whatever like mass demonstrations but like those barely get covered yeah because i don't know if the media or whatever people just aren't as receptive to the story because it's such a bummer to think about because i know that that is you know climate anxiety that's a real thing that people experience of this idea that you're watching this slow motion car crash that you have no it's very difficult to understand how you can help change anything yeah that's uh
Starting point is 00:17:57 that's one of those things we should feel anxiety about though like that's the that's the uh that's something i like i'm working on my uh you know work with a therapist is like you know sometimes you don't need to pathologize something sometimes you're feeling bad about something because of a bad thing that you should be feeling bad about you know yeah that's scary that's the that's the media's job is to differentiate between those two and not be like, ah, this is bummersville. Let's put something on the front page. Hey, remember Bernie's Mittens? You're like, what? And everything, I mean, again, it clearly, because everything's dictated on what people are going to listen to then god like it's not that i'm like media you
Starting point is 00:18:46 gotta understand your responsibility in this but shit it's just not connecting and it barely to the point where like people can say oh right these fiscal policies or the way of doing things is only going to continue the trend but what's the latest like climate change popular culture like you know like we we had the al gore an inconvenient truth um we had the day after tomorrow that didn't help things probably by being just absurd uh like non-scientific bullshit like, what do we, I feel like something needs to help break through in the culture. I am soft pitching here. Something we were talking about before we started recording. Waterworld is.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yeah, people need, people need to see, I think, and I don't know if this will freak people out too much, but like, it's, it's real. The thing that the thing that, not to get really dark, that I think worries me the most is that the moments where we're truly overwhelmed and unable to contend with what's happening. be moved across a country or you know firefighting planes that can be taken somewhere and like the actual chaos of living in like a climate disaster i think more people need to realize like how realistic like rather than like and in this time people wore fucking you know furs because like it was so far past the end of civilization like really anchoring it in a realistic way but who knows if that's something people want to fund or if that makes people more nihilistic or whatever but it's i don't know i mean i don't i'm i'm plenty i'm plenty aware and disturbed by the the trajectory of things
Starting point is 00:20:37 and like who knows when we're gonna pass the point of like things are so heated culturally and politically because like just everybody's you know this is the one of the things that like the top article that google the google doodle links off to uh that they talk about is like it has a major impact on mental health you know like and then it has a major impact on vector-borne communicable diseases uh and those are you know those aren't even things we think about we just think about like flooded streets and shit and like uh oh yeah people don't think about food insecurity people don't think about mass migration people don't think about any of that stuff because it's so hard to fathom like really like millions of people moving because the land that they're on is no longer like habitable right uh but again you know i know that there are like some climate scientists who again are
Starting point is 00:21:36 saying like hey man if we can get to two degrees and we keep it there like maybe it won't be totally fucked up yeah but every time we see a gathering of nations to try and say, okay, this is what we need to do, they completely go back on the shit they say or just do something that's just very much ceremonial or just for an optics win and not substantive enough.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Yeah. And I feel like there's also just ambient low self-esteem about ourselves as a species that is hard to avoid because we're like, oh, this is an existential threat to our species and we can't do shit. Like, all we're doing is, like, putting out, like, ads by the oil companies, by the people who are causing this shit. And, like, that's it. ads by the oil companies by the people who are causing this shit and like that's it like they like that is yeah it's just well yeah good for the the spirit and the human condition you know absolutely because most people they see a problem they say how do we solve it
Starting point is 00:22:37 and it's never like oh well if we do that then like i make less money here we most people are looking at a problem and be like, oh, if this is a danger to me, then there's nothing I wouldn't do to keep this from happening to me. And then we have to witness this through the lens of this oligarchy corporatocracy where the people that have all of the means to do it are just like, I don't know, dude, I'm going to be fucking dead by the time it gets bad.
Starting point is 00:23:04 And like, who gives a shit my kids will live on the island i just bought off the coast of new zealand or like a fucking sub that i build because they can just live under the wire and come up for air i don't know what we'll fucking figure it out i got off money but to witness that and say how are these people not looking at this problem in the same way and thinking god this needs to fucking happen soon um and i think that's another thing that just works on you is like oh my god am i totally powerless and like the people that
Starting point is 00:23:32 can change are they that fucking disconnected from it all that they're gonna let all of this happen to the planet yeah answer yeah answer yes uh anyway check out the new batman it's three hours long and you'll be told you might disassociate to that.
Starting point is 00:23:47 So, yeah. Still Waterworld remake, maybe just for entertainment purposes. Like we were both fans as youngsters. The stunt show at Universal. What about the reverse
Starting point is 00:24:03 and the oceans have evaporated wow think about that that would be all fucked up looking imagine like seeing our world you know because i'm going to see something different like what happened if we drained all the oceans i know there was like a nat geo thing about that but yeah there's also i'm having a hard time figuring out how it's different than mad max well i guess because there would be these like weird progressions of depth like what we perceived as below sea level but it's like we must make the trek up which would merely be to sea level you know what i mean whoa all right everything's all muddy. Bunch of. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:45 All right. Well, one, one sign that, you know, money might be moving towards our water world remake is that money is moving away from bright to. Yeah. Netflix scrapped plans for a sequel.
Starting point is 00:25:03 The Will Smith movie where... Didn't they say it was their best film ever almost? Or close to. I think they were making claims. It was one of the first movies where Netflix was like, all right, guys, normally we don't share this sort of thing. But this movie's already been seen by more people than every other movie combined. So yeah we just we don't want to
Starting point is 00:25:29 like you know blow your mind right now freak anybody out here yeah but it like the numbers were crazy a lot of people suspect they were inflated um this was written it was not a great movie we watched it because we felt obligated because everybody we knew had supposedly watched it, even though I didn't really know anybody. Yep. I don't know a single person that did, but yeah. We did, and it's not great. Will Smith, I like watching him on camera
Starting point is 00:25:58 in basically anything, but this, for the most part, sucked. Max Landis, real certified piece of shit even for the film industry um it was the writer so um yeah not not the worst thing in the world to see to see this yeah well and also disney said they're scrapping another thing with will smith as well what yeah it's like get the fuck over it you think that's gonna first of all netflix you And also Disney said they're scrapping another thing with Will Smith as well. What? Yeah. It's like, get the fuck over it. You think that's going to, first of all, Netflix, you think you saying this is going to make people stop talking about their fucking stock prices going down?
Starting point is 00:26:35 And like that one billionaire is like, I lost $400 million investing in Netflix this year. I love to see that. Or Disney being like, don't look away don't look at the how we just throw money around the state of florida no matter to who we don't care just keep our give us our tax breaks uh we're not working with will smith anymore so they're like really gonna try and like blacklist this dude for the i don't know it's just a weird thing where it it seems like it but interesting i'm starting to you know people are starting to show that there are true colors and not really understand the nuance of many things or what is happening or like what what is this
Starting point is 00:27:19 industry is like place to say suddenly the line is drawn at this but not all the myriad of other things that we see all the time yeah uh and to me it just looks opportunistic and i think why a lot of people are like it only seems like this seems racially motivated uh even on like a subconscious level to make an example of the out of control black man at the award show right um and they they didn't scrap it back when it was revealed that max landis was like a serial sexual predator complete fucking monster the guy who's like whole idea the whole thing was uh nah we're still good but then now um okay all right and And also, they were saying, I saw another headline that was like, someone wrote like, the reason why Netflix can't play like your new series or like, you know, extend your favorite series is because they're spending
Starting point is 00:28:16 30 million an episode on Stranger Things. Yeah. I mean, that makes sense. So this, you know, I think there was some suspicion that at some point, there would be something that would happen. Either Netflix would do what Apple did, where Apple, when they were making iPhones for many years, were losing money but it was like yeah but there's enough appetite for those and they make like they have that market cornered enough and like eventually they became like most profitable company in the history of the world uh netflix was like deficit spent like just going deeper and deeper into debt and people like yeah but like they're they're corner in the market and they're too big to fail and then like they just now they're like one of five streaming
Starting point is 00:29:11 services and not even like one of the better ones so it kind of makes sense yeah by the way people are wondering if i live in a haunted house or uh or if there's somebody angrily just walking around in my house slamming doors i don't know if y'all can hear that, but no, um, no, we just have a doorknobs that don't work and it's windy today and all our doors are open. So,
Starting point is 00:29:32 or all our windows are open. So real spooky. Yeah. Old school style. The wind's like, yeah, that's basically what's going on. Um,
Starting point is 00:29:41 all right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Friday April 22nd we are back on Monday with a whole ass episode of the show we also are going to drop an episode of Miles and Jack I'm Matt Boosty into the feed
Starting point is 00:29:56 soon probably over the weekend so check that out if you haven't checked it out yet it's a blast. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, truly one of the great joys, uh, to talk hoops with miles and, uh, some amazing guests. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:16 And the guests are going to keep coming. Uh, yeah. Shout out to Jabari, our super producer on that show. Who's also hosting a show, uh, on the network with Robert Ori which is fantastic where they talk about like great finals matchups over the years so dope alright until Monday
Starting point is 00:30:34 be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the vaccine if you haven't gotten the booster in four months you can go get a booster and they recommend you do that it'll up your immunity uh be kind to each other and uh don't do nothing about white supremacy we will talk to y'all on monday bye bye I'm Carrie Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports.
