Or Lacey gets it. Do it. What's up, the internet? and welcome to this edition of remember that character from 90210 what was her name trendo walsh yeah boy as shannon
Starting point is 00:01:55 doherty's character anyway that's we're gonna about to say what's trending i'm miles and that is who's that hello hello, hello. It's Becca. Happy New Year. My first appearance on the pod in the new year. There you go. You got your airbrushed Boricua t-shirt on. You know, huepate. You know, Taino tea.
Starting point is 00:02:17 What's up to all y'all? You know, I'm feeling you. On a live stream I did yesterday, it's a stupid, I made a stupid joke. I couldn't find my phone. And I said, this either is my favorite Puerto Rican food or I don't know what's going on
Starting point is 00:02:27 because where my phone go. So I got to go, y'all. That's been it for me. And I'm out of here. Enough doing that. Man, I'm kind of jealous because the
Starting point is 00:02:37 I used to live closer to Anna and there's this Mofongo place that I would go to and I know she's been I know she's been hitting it up. I see. I saw her post pictures and I missed that place. I puerto rican spot here i mean i don't know if
Starting point is 00:02:49 it's good because it's in um essex market no it's in manhattan but the market is very you know it's i mean if you don't know you don't live there but it's like you know basic it's like there's a bunch of stuff in there um but i'm eager to try it it looked really yummy i just didn't have the chance y'all please give us tips the best just we're always trying to eat eat well on this show um but let's talk about what's trending first up is the secret service oh why well you know this whole week we've been talking about and we'll talk about it more tomorrow's uh full episode is joe byron oh senile man himself he's been i got these loose documents everywhere uh and things have been popping up the first batch i think popped up in november and then we found out recently has some shit in his garage so rather
Starting point is 00:03:36 than being like yeah it looks like this old dude is sloppy as fuck with these documents too there's like these libs on fucking twitter who are like it was the secret service they're setting him up right after the republicans take house i mean it could be but like either way i don't i don't need to like bend my mind into pretzels like that when i already accept the fact that he is an elder who's you know it's like a why is anyone letting him print anything it's gonna get lost he didn't print it he just took it with him he probably folded it up you know what i mean probably spit his gum in it put in his pocket i don't know either way it's just funny to see like all the back and forth
Starting point is 00:04:13 this is nothing like what donald trump did which is true 100 but it's also curious but just own it you're like yeah it looks like people are sloppy as shit we should we should actually figure out how to lock that make it more secure but i feel like the secret service famously during the trump administration hated trump like i feel like there was a lot of stories basically being like the secret service does not like trump so i don't know why they would be against biden in this situation well there's a lot of old there's a lot of you know the law enforcement types they tend to like the message that trump was putting down you know based on what i've seen out there but yeah it's uh an ongoing story which we will see people try to make these equivocations because they're bored um the next thing is trending is lisa marie presley it's so wild i saw her name
Starting point is 00:05:02 trending right so i when i clicked it on twitter first was just her on the golden globes red carpet talking about how austin bolt she's like my fault she she kind of seemed a little bit out of it a little bit yeah i'm not gonna cast dispersions or whatever but she seemed less than optimal energetically there and then we just found out she was rushed to the hospital after going into a full cardiac arrest. And I think they actually got her heart going again. But like now what the fucking wild shit is on top of like Elvis fans and Lisa Marie well wishers are like, oh, my God, you know, she's got a kid. You know, please.
Starting point is 00:05:38 I hope she pulls through whatever. You got all these fucking covid vaccine fucking people now being like, oh, wow. Another full on cardiac arrest. And it's like, where are you getting this news? It's just died suddenly, died suddenly. You know what I mean? I mean, we're talking what, 300 to 450,000 deaths a year due to that in the US. And also cardiac problems or like heart disease is one of the biggest killers of women so you know it's like it's nothing to do with covid well look it's all about you know just like that guy said when he was harassing the pilots in the cockpit he's like
Starting point is 00:06:15 we just had another guy go another pilot go down i just made that up for the purposes of not being wrong in this exchange of information and i'll say that with authority and go back to my coach seat where i'll continue to fart the whole time um well wishes to lisa marie presley hope she makes a speedy and full recovery yeah that was i wonder if someone was already making a joke about like i think someone recorded a video pretending to be austin butler wishing her well like being like this is how awesome and i was like nah look the internet is moving but that is too fast i know i was like when i saw it i was like come on i felt like i felt like the teacher who didn't want to laugh at the students joke that you should be like no y'all can't be saying that and rather than just be like okay y'all are
Starting point is 00:06:59 too much and they'd be like see you didn't get mad he didn't get mad. He didn't get mad. You like that, Mr. Gray? That's exactly what that would have been. That's how I feel, yeah. In fucking outrage and fucking angering news, Kenan Anderson, who is a 31-year-old English teacher, he was in a traffic accident in Venice, California, flagged down a motorcycle cop and somehow turned into a bunch of other cops getting on top of him,
Starting point is 00:07:23 and he was tased to death the lapd have already killed three people this year it is january 12th so we're on every four days average right now um not to mention that 2022 was a record high for police killings so you know for all this talk about progress or forward movement, some kind of adjustment to our policing and policies, we're only just, we continue to see this shit happen. Apparently Patrice Cullors, who is one of the co-founders of Black Lives Matter,
Starting point is 00:07:58 said that this man is actually her cousin. That's so heartbreaking. I mean, it's heartbreaking in general, but it's like, it's always one degree away. The video, I saw the beginning part of the video. I don't know. I have a bit of like a morbid need to kind of see. I didn't watch the whole thing, but to understand like what went wrong, he was in a car accident
Starting point is 00:08:17 and they said he was having like an anxiety. I mean, he looked, he was like, I don't know what's going on. Like if you've ever been in a really bad car accident, you, I mean, I remember one time I just stayed in the car for a long time. Cause I was trying to figure out what the fuck just happened. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:33 When I got in my car accident, I remember yelling at the person trying to help me. Cause I thought they hit me. Like I was so disoriented and I was just like, what the fuck? And they were like, no, no ma'am.
Starting point is 00:08:42 I pulled over because I was so worried about you like i didn't hate you and i was like oh i'm i'm so sorry i'm so disoriented so yeah i can imagine yeah and this is this goes along with a really bad week for the lapd i mean like they just recently changed their policy to say like oh yeah if you're off duty with your service weapon on you you can't get drunk because they've had so many problems with officers getting drunk pulling guns menacing people with guns shooting people and it's just wild to hear that policy now and you're like yeah what and then yeah there was a vice article that just like kind of laid out just like five like six things that even happened recently you're like jesus christ so yeah i mean this is exactly
Starting point is 00:09:20 why we need real police reform uh and actual my god like substantive substantive attempts to be able to hold people to account because apparently they say you're not supposed to tase somebody for more than 15 seconds they say he was tased for like over 30 seconds um because that's how people that's how things go from non-lethal to lethal so um not much is changing and i really encourage people to really begin to see that because for all of the like padding on the back that we've seen the last two years, nothing has changed except for people saying words like diversity, equity, inclusion. I'm not seeing it anywhere. And until I do, it's fuck this shit until the end. Okay,
Starting point is 00:10:03 let's take a quick break and we'll be right back. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI
Starting point is 00:10:50 in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who, on October 16, 2017, was murdered.
Starting point is 00:11:21 There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate. My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman Wikileaks. Daphne exposed the culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price. into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price. Listen to Crooks Everywhere starting September 25th on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:11:51 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do.
Starting point is 00:12:14 One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare.
Starting point is 00:12:34 This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. We're back. Tucker carlson alex alex jones fucking doing some kind of collab no okay you remember how alex jones lawyer like apparently leaked all the shit from his phone and we're like oh oh yeah text messages uh yeah huffington post has been able has slowly been being like yeah we got a hold of them here's some of the stuff we've seen the The first thing I saw on the one I'll mention now is that there is apparently this moment where Tucker Carlson apparently went to Donald Trump's house. And I didn't, I did not know this, like to warn him to take the fucking virus seriously, apparently. And then later that night on his show, Tucker Carlson said, this was, I remember this
Starting point is 00:13:44 because he, he was actually pretend actually acting like it was a pandemic. He said, people you know will get sick. Some may die. This is real. That's the point of this script, to tell you that. And then we see this, like, they juxtapose that with these text messages where Carllson like he texted alex jones and he said i tried man talking about getting through to trump on how serious this shit was i tried and then when trump was just sort of like you know doing what he did and basically be like
Starting point is 00:14:16 it's the china virus and do you want to drink bleach then they were like oh okay that's oh okay i know how to read the sheet music that's what what we're on now. It's just wild to just... We love those exchanges. It's wild to say, I tried, man. So vile. I'd prefer that they're so evil that off rip, they're like, this is bullshit. It ain't happening.
Starting point is 00:14:39 But they probably know. They're smart enough to be like, no, man, some real fucking doctors out here. They're smart enough to be self, no, I'm just like real fucking doctors out here. They're smart enough to be self-preserving. It's like at the end of the day, they don't want to die. It's like these are people who live in higher circles. They're not people that are uneducated, so to speak. So they know the stakes.
Starting point is 00:15:00 They just know how to play the game. They want to play the game to get the money to get the clout whatever they need and it's just a funny universe to think about these conversations this is the kind of shit where like you i don't know how do you hold someone to account who has a platform like that and they're willfully obscuring the truth that's leading to countless like loss of life yeah like what do you do because i mean we saw like we know what that does but when you see it so cynically laid out like this was like i tried to tell him man it's gonna be bad and then next thing you know alex jones is like selling his miracle cures and shit yeah come on y'all next story let's take it to young people town real quick because i don't
Starting point is 00:15:40 like what i'm seeing especially on tiktok i this story. This young girl in Singapore, she's on TikTok. And she's like, oh, my God, I got my first luxury bag. And she was very happy about this. She's just like over the moon. She's like, I never had anything like this. Her name is Zoe Gabriel. She said, thank you, Dad, for getting me this bag. People were all up in her shit because
Starting point is 00:16:06 they said that's a bag from charles and keith that's like some 60 bag that ain't no luxury bag and came for this fucking little girl's neck all she did was be like oh my god people are so fucking sad the internet and tiktok can be such a vile play like as much as i love doom scrolling on there and you know questionable for my mental health yeah it is so i mean there's a trend right now even talking about like what is the most chronically online take that you've seen and it's like people taking things like this and then explaining you know the to me this is a incredibly chronically online take like you're bullying a 17 year old for being excited about a gift from her father, which by the way,
Starting point is 00:16:48 if I were her age and my dad bought me a $60 bag, I would ache and say that luxury. And be grateful that my father even knew my tastes enough to buy a bag because I don't know about you. But if you are a daughter of an immigrant parent, an immigrant father, they don't know you.
Starting point is 00:17:04 They refuse to know anything about you. And they will hold on to the little nugget of you from four to this day. You know, like for instance, I love Sleeping Beauty forever. My dad gets me things that are Sleeping Beauty related.
Starting point is 00:17:17 It makes it easy. I am 27 and maybe not a Sleeping Beauty stan anymore. So, you know what I'm saying? Like to have a dad even care about you enough to get you with something that you like who gives a fuck if it's 60 dollars that's like i don't like spending 60 on a bag for myself why i don't understand what the i mean again i
Starting point is 00:17:38 know why people get the joys because so people are so fucking miserable yeah they couldn't life out of everything they couldn't stand to see some like fucking young kid be like yo wow look at this like and who the fuck are y'all you know man leave these kids alone i don't know that's where i was like felt like such a i mean like i'm on tiktok but i rarely see like the like the young like gen z culture type tiktoks it's always like some weird dancing shit like Other shit. It's less influencer type stuff. But yeah, when I saw that, I was like, come on. Why the fuck are y'all
Starting point is 00:18:11 shaming people? It's so stupid. Especially because the app is for them, really. We are old-ass people just trolling this app. Leave the 17-year-olds who this is actually their platform. That's me being the adult looking on TikTok. Hey, y'all better knock that off.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Yeah. Better leave that little girl alone. The fuck you know about this? You don't know where the fuck she comes from? And what the fuck does that matter? Like, that's nothing to be ashamed about. And then speaking of Gen Zed. So I didn't know Sierra Mist was, like, fucking gone.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Or they were, like, getting rid of it. Yeah. I mean, look, I never drank the shit. But, you know, Sprite all day if you're going with the lemon lime route even you know even the new formula 7 up when that came out a few years ago i was fine with it but it's it's you know i obey my thirst but pepsi is coming out now with the new replacement for sierra mist and it's called starry um and like the packaging is very i guess like i guess it definitely looks better than sierra mist like i'm more open to looking like this but the tagline oh my god y'all if it's like a fucking narc pulled up to your high school and was trying to act like he was 17 too because the is starry hits different no no i love that that to me hits in the same like little cringe bucket
Starting point is 00:19:32 as but it does hit though hold on you use the word hit okay just make it right different see that it hits in the way that like the white kids on tiktok are being be so fucking for real right now be so abso-fucking catrafragilistic for real right now like it is when people use like i swear to god the istg shit yeah like i'm like whatever look everyone's so online they don't like be in the pit yeah that is a tiktoker i remember when i remember that was that was that the taylor swift woman yeah i'd be in the be in the pit i was like you're not gonna be nowhere young lady be in the pit. I was like, you're not finna be nowhere, young lady, except
Starting point is 00:20:08 in the principal's office talking like that. What the fuck are you talking about? I'm finna be in the pit. I'm finna be in the pit. I saw this other clip on Reddit where these kids were thirsting after some gymnast, a collegiate gymnast.
Starting point is 00:20:24 And all these dudes were waiting out and another gymnast collegiate gymnast oh no and all these dudes were waiting out and another gymnast on her team just walked out and all these dudes like where is she where is she and this and she was like what the fuck is going on terrifying absolutely terrifying i mean look we're all we're all coming into our adulthood in different ways you know we didn't have the funny thing was when i was taped like i was using video i had a fucking mini dv camcorder to fucking put all my stupid ideas on um but i mean if you saw the i think it was a new york times article that came out a couple days ago that was about how gen z is now back in the camcorder era like yeah of course digital camera all day and i'm like must be nice that you have the internet to look nice on these
Starting point is 00:21:06 digital cameras because if i pull up my digital camera photos from 2008 it is the dustiest ugliest awkwardest little girl going like duck lips in the mirror in like the biggest eyeliner you've ever seen you know raccoon eyes and the straight bangs and the curly hair your poor hair your poor hair and i thinned out my hair too so it was just depressing yeah and because i didn't understand my curls yet yeah yeah no i know we all the worst tank tops journey yeah yeah they look cool now i'm like i can't even when i look 17 it's embarrassing and they it is it is wild though because like my dad found like an old camcorder he's like i'm gonna throw this away and part of me was like i don't throw that shit
Starting point is 00:21:48 out you could do some lit ass music video on there what the fuck you talking about but it's funny too because i remember for a while like there were apps i used to download on my iphone that would make your videos look like high eight videos yes or whatever and now it's just funny to see like that's the dominant sort of visual aesthetic but hey i get it you know there was a time when people wanted to recreate the look of like 16 millimeter film and shit the og instagram filters yeah exactly never forget what's your what was your favorite x pro 2 i don't remember i mean i just remember slipping through them and being like yeah ludwig maybe yes actually ludwig was a good one ludwig was a good one yeah back in
Starting point is 00:22:27 the day man my old digital camera pictures were like me in the i don't even know how to match my clothes oh no never i wore the weirdest fucking shit like i'm like i'm looking back i'm like bro you you know better you know like you know what thing what how things work but back then it was just about like assembling all these different types of clothing at the same time it's because we grew up and the disney kids wore 80 different patterns and it was like that's what i was watching i'm wearing like camo with like brown gauchos like what's wrong with me? I had like a J.Crew, like purple and green button up with a gray and teal fitted Dodgers hat. Oh, I can see it. A green like golf jacket.
Starting point is 00:23:13 You know what I mean? Jeans that fucking, so fucked up looking. Anyway, look, I'm fine now. I found my zone, which is dress like I was 14. So it's basketball, shorts, sweatpants, hoodies all day. Very simple for me. All right. Well, thanks so much for listening to us on this wonderful trending episode. Thank you, Becca, for joining me. We're going to be back tomorrow with a whole episode. So don't worry about that. So until then, you know, shit, man, you might as well get that that shot if you haven't.
Starting point is 00:23:40 I mean, I feel like I'm preaching to the choir, but, you know, wear a mask because the shit is out there still. And also don't do nothing about white supremacy, misogyny, homophobia, none of that nonsense. You know, make sure you're a good person out there. We'll try our best to and we'll see you next time. Bye. Bye. How do you feel about this? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit,
Starting point is 00:24:09 where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white and prints. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
