Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of trend bezel mint oh which is something you might do to some nah we won't do it go on wait hold on what are you giving out financial
Starting point is 00:02:12 advice again uh yeah i was just saying something you might do if you're working on your taxes right now uh and trying to support your trenton all habit just you want to give your look. I'm going to put three million in your company. Let me take two out and you keep a mill. All right. You go. I gemstone. You're catching up on gemstones. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:35 I needed to. I don't think any comedy movie can do a vomiting scene ever again. They just nailed it so hard. Yeah. Anyway. Anyways, I'm Jack jack you're miles yeah here are some things that are a trend in right now joe mansion is apparently planning to vote for katanji brown jackson thus ensuring her seat so all those republican motherfuckers debased
Starting point is 00:03:00 themselves for nothing my god and put her through fucking nothing for what um and again like i was saying yesterday i'm like how is cory booker the only person like articulating what is happening who has the time to speak during that confirmation hearing rather than everyone be like you're so you're so strong thank you so much for enduring abuse because that's what this is all about how much can you take and then when you end up on the other side here's your prize rather than like full-throated defenses but yeah uh history in the making we'll see what uh i think what april now is when they're gonna actually have that vote so we shall see bridgerton season two dropped uh today oh so hold on to your butts everyone it's bridgerton time um right that sounds that sounds like how people would talk about that show so some things i'm hearing that
Starting point is 00:03:55 are a little disquieting to me as somebody who watched you know here and there the pride i'd say i probably caught 50 of season one okay i've watched it all damn so you're like an official expert oh yeah because i was like will he bust a nut will he shoot up the club so that's that's the whole storyline like that that might as well have been the you know bridgerton colon will he bust a nut that dude's not even in this season which we knew was going to happen but they didn't even like recast him and because the book focuses on different couples right that's yeah Daphne is also like barely in this season like they're just like off doing their
Starting point is 00:04:36 thing living their life so now it's all about the brother who is like mad about something it's not clear the kind of werewolf looking dude um he's right he looks a little like a handsome werewolf sure apparently you know fans say that each book is about a different family member finding love the other part of the review that has me worried is they said that this season is less about sex and more about love which like i'm out that's what i mean that was the innovation right was like the sex in the first one it was like there's plenty of shows there's plenty of period dramas that aren't about like whether the dude's gonna no you never see people like smash passionately in period films.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Right. I mean, you do, but it's not as... Not the way I wanna see. I wanna see the swirl. You know what I mean? Yeah. That's what I'm here for. I'm here for that stuff where there's black people in it, too.
Starting point is 00:05:36 That's why I'm like, oh, okay, I like this version of it. Right. So, yeah. Yeah, I'll check in. And look, if they fail on the horniness then we'll see what happens i might be less interested but who knows i fucking sat through the gilded age so right wait what was the gilded age because i kept hearing people talk about that this basically is
Starting point is 00:05:55 downton abbey you know what i mean like same creators or just like inspired by no same same same crew same dude and putting that on the gilded age in the u.s and christine baranski is great like it being so super like gilded age shadiness they got fucking baranski yeah they got baranski in there i don't even know who that is but i just like her name christine baranski yeah look her up you know christine baranski oh i would yeah for sure uh robin williams wife in the bird yeah i know christine brand now you remember that one huh yeah but i i did not know that was her name and that is not the uh person that i had in mind when i would say her name in the person who did you who are you thinking of like suzanne
Starting point is 00:06:39 summers yeah christine paransky i was thinking uh sipowitz from nypd blue i think oh paransky oh got you got you okay yeah well that's not it um well um but yeah the only thing i saw about gilded age is that like i think somebody tweeted like we're seven episodes in and nothing has happened a true like achievement in tv oh yeah that was a tweet i like this week also it was like something about like wow we went through the whole season and they successfully made nothing happen and that's just like rich people like fucking each other and lying about it well just like the best are like these like just sort of like highfalutin shade moments where it's like oh they didn't invite her to the quadrille like so oh
Starting point is 00:07:25 uh but you're kind of invested in it like to the point you're like oh shit you know for like the most uh like low stakes shit but yeah anyway wasn't that horny either so all right uh let we're gonna talk about the oscars because they're coming up but we'll save that for the end we'll talk about uh jk rowling yeah um man trending on the right side of history putin made a speech and he's like russia is being canceled just like they did jk rowling uh-huh and people like oh okay uh sure because are you both are don't like respect the existence of trans people is that why you found uh some overlap there uh and then jk rowling was like oh don't get me connected with this stuff blah blah blah like i'm i'm not killing people i just advocate for the dehumanization of people so very different columns very different columns
Starting point is 00:08:25 uh so yeah a lot of people pointing like huh that's a strange strange venn diagram overlap there yeah all right uh let's take a quick break and then we'll come back with much much more much more i'm jess casavetto executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions, like how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job?
Starting point is 00:10:03 Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote.
Starting point is 00:10:24 What is it, like you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:10:46 I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is
Starting point is 00:11:31 getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. MTV's official challenge podcast is back for another season.
Starting point is 00:11:50 That's right. The challenge is about to embark on its monumental 40th season, y'all. And we are coming along for the ride. Woo-hoo. That would be me, Devin Simone. And then there's me, Davon Rogers. And we're here to take you behind the scenes of, drumroll please, the Challenge
Starting point is 00:12:08 40, Battle of the Eras. Yes. Each week, cast members will be joining us to spill all of the tea on the relentless challenges, heartbreaking eliminations, and of course, all the juicy drama. And let's not forget about the hookups. Anyway, regardless of what era
Starting point is 00:12:24 you're rooting for at home, everyone is welcome here on MTV's official challenge podcast. So join us every week as we break down episodes of the Challenge 40 Battle of the Eras. Listen to MTV's official challenge podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And we dig into it a little bit more, but Clarence Thomas' wife, Jenny Thomas, is basically Q.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Yeah, I think it's safe to say. I think Jenny Thomas is Q, based on her text to Mark Meadows that have been released, I think, through the Washington Post. And a lot of people are saying, I'm sorry, that's Clarence Thomas's wife on the Supreme Court. The same Clarence Thomas who was the one dissenting opinion to like when Trump was asking to block his records or the administration's records from reaching the Jan 6th committee. That Clarence Thomas's wife. The records that revealed these tweets that we're talking about. Yeah, right. Exactly. Yeah. administration's records from reaching the jan 6 committee that clarence thomas's wife the records that revealed these tweets that we're talking about yeah right exactly yeah and you know we
Starting point is 00:13:32 get into it more but he hasn't recused himself but now uh senator ron wyden somehow he's the first one out here being like yeah clarence thomas you Thomas, you need to recuse yourself. I mean, you need to recuse yourself from your job at this point. That's not happening. Then you're giving Biden another pick. Dude, all hell would break loose. If we went from 6-3 to 5-4, they're like, we were so fucking close. We're back to 5-4 splits.
Starting point is 00:14:02 So, yeah, Ron Wy Wyden he started the calls he's a democrat alright I mean meanwhile like fucking Kevin McCarthy and they're like hey minority leader Kevin McCarthy what's your opinion he's like I trust him to make decisions like he's been doing which is like okay sure
Starting point is 00:14:19 sit on your hands Hayden Panettiere actually Miles would you please do the honors and say her name hayden panettiere hayden panettiere oh um i always call her panettere uh because i like that too an idiot you know you know her from heroes uh and she's or when she was like went to that place in japan where they're killing dolphins and she was like don't kill them stab me and she was like swimming like and like crying in the do you remember that too was that in heroes or that was no no in her real life damn okay yeah so she was involved in a brawl outside the sunset marquee yeah which is like a hotel bar thing here in Los Angeles.
Starting point is 00:15:07 100%. Yeah. It's just a weird story because I have not said the name Hayden Panettiere in ages. And then this thing props up and like her boyfriend apparently got into it with other patrons because her boyfriend was like commenting on how bad a tip like these other people left which i'm not sure how he knew what the tip was like do you think he got up and was like looking at their tip line it was like oh that's a little weird like fuck a bad tipper but that's also you're you're trying to start a fight if you are sticking your head over to check what someone's leaving as a tip and then i think there's a way you could be you know your heart's in the right place and maybe they were giving the server shit the whole time and you're like yo you can't that's
Starting point is 00:15:49 fucking foul but yeah you're you know it's a confrontation so come what may uh from that confrontation but apparently like they started shoving each other in the in the like the bar then they went out in the street and then they were fighting each other and it was just an absolute mess so and this is uh a significant other who like so apparently during the brawl and like you can see photographs from it at one point she ends up like knocked to the ground and she apparently was saying what was his name brian uh yeah brian jail brian jail jail brian jail like as a like hey you're going to jail now uh and the reason is because of like domestic violence charges against her so not yeah it's not great grim scenario yeah super grim and also yeah i don't know since more sunset strip action has more and
Starting point is 00:16:47 more you know energy is going to be focused on there because there's i know we're going to get into the oscars but speaking of the sunset strip the uh chateau marmont jay-z and beyonce are throwing an oscars party there but like they're gonna have to cross a picket line to go to this party because the staff from the hotel of the chateau marmont they were like just very unceremoniously axed during the pandemic no severance no nothing and they've been like really aggressively trying to get some kind of relief or jobs again so there's a lot happening on the sunset strip in the moment and i think it'll be interesting to see what happens with that moment if the chateau marmont is like a legendary like party like it's also where john belushi died yeah um it's yeah but they're the stories of like how it's managed are pretty horrendous um i think they were retaliating
Starting point is 00:17:39 against people for trying to unionize um fired them so yeah it's the fact that jay-z uh and beyonce like planned their party for there on the one hand it's like yeah it's a no-brainer and i'm sure they've done many parties there before but uh i don't know you know shout out to spike lee jane fonda isa ray gabrielle union quinta brunson they. They're like, yeah, we won't go to that. Or like, we won't go to that hotel. So yeah, it'll be quite an interesting optic if I'm sure they'll find a way to be like, there'll be probably a perfect picture
Starting point is 00:18:16 where celebrities just walking past people who are demanding some semblance of equality. So yeah, let's talk Oscars. They're coming up on Sunday. I have not paid attention to who's going to win or what should win. But there is a lot of controversy around the awards this year
Starting point is 00:18:36 for the removal of eight awards, including editing and original score. They're going to be handed out before the telecast and edited into the broadcast and that was not really cleared with the academy themselves and a lot of where it wasn't cleared with a lot of the members of the academy and um it was apparently it was based on a uh ultimatum from abc who threatened to cancel the oscars telecast if 12 categories were not removed from the show um how many fucking categories are there 12 categories yeah what does that just leave
Starting point is 00:19:14 you with like best picture there's like it's a sponsored uh i guess 24 wow so they halved it okay um yikes anyways uh they're like yo cut it in half so we can just focus on like the memorable celebrity people yeah which is that's like the one i remember the one thing i'd actually like pay attention to sometimes and you're like oh that's like the best uh like you know costuming or something or sound they wear some wild outfits sometimes the best costumes yeah yeah put me on to something but i guess not abc demands more celebrity faces because that's what'll get the ratings i guess does it though like yeah i i'd be i'd be surprised if like there isn't a sizable portion of the audience that isn't like,
Starting point is 00:20:11 this is actually an interesting part where you find out what production design is. That's always interesting to see how they do that, what the thinking is going into there. Not that the award show does a good job of highlighting that. Right. At the very least, it'll put you onto something. You're like, what's that? This? Yeah. That's where I look at it. but right at the very least it'll put you on to something you're like what's that this yeah there's like a lot of the movies you watch like the best artists are names you've never heard of
Starting point is 00:20:32 who are like designing things in the background right you know and also those technical categories too like whenever i would do like brackets i remember like those are some of the easiest ones to figure out like sometimes like when you have these huge temple films like avatar you're like i already know foregone conclusion watch me sweep this right oscar's grid i'm about to fill out but i haven't done that in 12 years so who knows but the other thing that they're doing that we've already kind of referenced like they're they're chasing some elusive audience that they think they've lost. Like it's the, the audience is shrinking because the audience for everything is shrinking,
Starting point is 00:21:09 but they are like a gambler who's just like on a tilt making bad decisions because of like some, some negative feedback. And so as we mentioned, they've got DJ Khaled as one of the presenters my kids love him tony hawk surfer kelly slater snowboarder sean white so they're claiming well that's because the theme of the show is movie lovers unite and the idea is that the show will make an effort to connect with people outside of hollywood outside of the industry you gotta connect with a casual moviegoer um which makes sense because i my my favorite letterboxd account to follow is uh is dj khaled right yeah i mean like on top of that sean white's got like a
Starting point is 00:22:09 like fucking sexual harassment allegations it seems like a like just one of the world's great assholes like pieces of shit uh monsters i don't know yeah that's just speculation based on a couple of things personal uh you know but then yeah he's yeah he's apparently just awful tony hawk did defend his role he was like hey i don't know why you're bringing dragging my name into it i've been in uh every jackass movie uh police academy four okay oh yeah triple x um sharknado five okay so like how about maybe fuck off uh i should be here i earned my spot except for the people who dedicated their lives to a craft only for some fucking skateboarder dude to be like uh sure thanks for giving me this award tony hawk sean white was in that uh that movie with justin timberlake the and mila kunis i think
Starting point is 00:23:14 we're like it was like this move this rom-com is gonna have a flash mob as like the central through line um it's very it's a very embarrassing movie um oh uh what is it friends with benefits yeah it used to be fuck buddies and then it became friends with benefits sean white plays an asshole i believe in that plays himself as an asshole and then there's the the covid of it all um so like so people who are attending everybody who's like going and has a ticket like those type of people who need tickets they are all required to mask up be vaccinated or like give a negative test but there will be no vaccine mandate or mask policy for nominees and their invited guests. Love a cash system.
Starting point is 00:24:09 The riffraff in the back. Get your fucking mask on. Right. Steerage. Let me see that vaccine. But these people actually aren't human. I don't know if you've been paying attention to Hollywood. If they were, they would have had agents and they would have been nominated that's how that works but i think this is god what a be interesting one to see because i love the insistence that like covet is over yet you're still seeing reports of
Starting point is 00:24:36 little outbreaks here and there but hey yeah look don't the show must go on jack the baftas which is like british oscars were held earlier this month and became like a straight up super spreader event like kenneth brana tested positive one of the other stars of belfast tested positive um so my my thin-lipped king kenneth brana oh you hate to see it i mean ben is generous that that man has no lips he had it he had that mouth that you know like when uh in the matrix neo he's like suddenly his mouth gets like fused over and there's no mouth it's like if you took that and then you took like an exacto knife and you just cut a slit in it that's what kenn Kenneth Branagh's lips would be. His mouth looks like the mouth that my kids draw at age four, which is just a line across a face.
Starting point is 00:25:30 That emoji with the just straight line face, that's Kenneth Branagh's on a good day with his lips juicy. I was just a little confused. Why did you send me a Kenneth Branagh emoji following my off-color joke? All right. All right. Anyways, enjoy the Oscars. following my off-color joke. Alright. Anyways, enjoy the Oscars.
Starting point is 00:25:49 That is going to do it for us this week. We're back on Monday with the whole ass episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the fucking vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will talk to y'all on Monday. Bye. Bye.
