Starting point is 00:02:10 Hello, the internet, or should I say top of the morning, top of the morning, top of the morning to the internet. And welcome to this episode of Trendsino Man, starring Trendon Frazier. I am Jack. that is miles over there hey my oh yeah over here hi was was that courtesy of super producer brian brian yeah brian right here uh well uh let's tell the people what is trending squid game is trending something uh i hadn't really heard about until past couple days but it is apparently going to be the biggest show ever on netflix it's going to unseat bridgerton it is a name that i think probably had hit my brain and just bounced off because i was like okay it sounds like a weird reality show or a weird uh game show um it is a like dystopian bloodier
Starting point is 00:03:07 hunger games out of south korea and uh super producer brian just played the score for us and it is haunting uh i will be playing it uh in my children's room as they go to sleep tonight just to see where they're at yeah you know but uh yeah i'm gonna i'm definitely gonna watch it uh sounds like i have to as part i mean look this job south south korean productions with an anti-capitalist slant so far sent look like they're undefeated yeah they haven't really uh there isn't there's an ethos yeah to those films that are just so elegantly, or maybe in this case, very heavy-handedly have this commentary, but even so,
Starting point is 00:03:51 it sounds like it's very... All I hear are people talking about it. I guess time for me to catch up with the times. Speaking of shows with an anti-capitalist bent, Sopranos, the New York Times just realized people are rewatching the Sopranos. plays in pretty frequently was just like looked out at the crowd and was like why are there so many young people here uh and specifically why are so many young people dressed like adriana
Starting point is 00:04:33 and whoa what is this t what the fuck is this like eight wait he was he was really saying that he's like the kids are dressed like eight. Yeah, yeah. Wow. He couldn't figure it out. And then, it's funny. It's, you know, what we've talked about before, like people who got famous before the internet and like, you know, they find out about the joys and non-joys of the internet at their own pace.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Right. And so he, like he just found out about podcasts and started one. That's a Sopranos rewatch. And the, the New York times article also mentions that there's kind of a new interpretation of the show as being about late capitalist decline, which I think is accurate i mean i think any sort of well-observed show about modern america kind of has to be but yeah that's that's what how the
Starting point is 00:05:36 new york times writes approvingly of socialism is uh when they're talking about interpretations of the sopranos right there you go oh man brian just sent that picture of imperioli playing that gets pain playing that fender just just ripping that axe it's just so he looks like it looks like if there was like a continuation of the sopranos where spoiler alert if you haven't seen the sopranosranos, spoiler alert, okay? Don't listen to what I'm about to say. If Christopher didn't get killed and still was living, and they follow him up and he's like, yeah, I'm playing in this band.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Right. Just doing terrible guitar solos. What if your spoiler was that he learned the guitar? Spoiler! He learns the guitar. It's pretty cool cool and it's not suffocating fucking shreds he's not being suffocated after a car accident i know you thought it would have been silvio but um yeah it's a it's a weird look uh he is my favorite guitarist but uh it's it doesn't look great um yeah any act ah what a show what i'm glad uh these young kids are dressing like aid you know yeah they even quote felix biederman from choppo
Starting point is 00:06:52 trap house in the article uh they're really like well put a paragraph about decline as it's depicted in the sopranos but like damn but damn, the New York Times really borrowing the thoughts of others about socialism, but only in reference. They can only look at the sun in the reflection of the Sopranos.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Of course, your body, your choice is trending for the worst reason. Hashtag your body, your body your choice worst reason that could possibly be trending ted cruz has a fucking opinion and he's he's talking about it as it relates to vaccine mandates in the nba he said i stand with kyrie irving i stand with and Andrew Wiggins I stand with Bradley Beal I stand with Jonathan Isaac And saying your body your choice
Starting point is 00:07:50 Okay dude really If it's your body your choice Like I think most people on the internet were like Okay so if we're gonna stay in that mindset Your body your choice How do you feel about abortions? How do you feel about reproductive rights? How do you feel about theseions how do you feel about reproductive rights how do you feel about these other things but of course this is he's just found a group of people like
Starting point is 00:08:10 they love they love it when like a person of color like we saw with nikki minaj right just a second it comes to somebody uh you know questioning vaccines and everyone's like oh my god she's so brave god i like i stand with her even though you know i, if you look at my tweets, I've probably been so terribly offended by her sexuality. In this case, they found the homies in the NBA. Yeah. I feel like he doesn't have an opinion. He has a stance here. This is a stance because I feel like Ted Cruz, if someone he loved needed an abortion, he would probably throw his stances out the window.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I'm hoping that Kyrie sees this and is like, well, if I'm getting the approval of Ted Cruz, I must be wrong. He did come around on the flat earth thing, so maybe he'll come around here too. I will not be holding my breath. I wish those guys had enough awareness about what Ted Cruz was for them to see that
Starting point is 00:09:15 and be like, fuck it, I'm getting vaccinated now. I'm not being in concert with this person. Have him be my biggest fan. Right. Sword Quest. This wasn't just a new game. Atari promised 150 grand in prizes to four finalists. But the prizes disappeared. And what started as a video game promotion
Starting point is 00:10:47 became one of the most controversial moments in 80s pop culture. I just don't believe they exist. I mean, my reaction, shock and awe. That sword was amazing. It was so beautiful. I'm Jamie Loftus. Join me this spring for The Legend of Sword Quest,
Starting point is 00:11:03 a podcast about the fall of Atari and the disappearing Sword Quest prizes. We'll follow the quest for lost treasure across four decades. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of
Starting point is 00:11:49 that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer.
Starting point is 00:12:13 This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. And we're back. No Time to Die is trending because it is capitalism's motto. You know,
Starting point is 00:13:49 when you work at this Amazon factory, you don't have time to die. So hurry up, get that shit done it is also the name of the new uh jim's bond uh movie jimmy jim bond it is called no time to die the reviews are dropping this movie's been in production or like in i think in the can for like a year and a half but i was fond of the trailer that dropped, and the reviews are coming out now, and supposedly it's good. All right. Cool. Maybe it'll be the last one we have to watch. Ended on a high note. Just move on to other ideas. So Phoebe Waller-B uh from fleabag who was
Starting point is 00:14:28 brought into it right on this one i think like kind of give it a little tune up she was asked about the thing about like should there be should the next james bond be a woman she's like no just like let me create a franchise based around a new character yeah yeah how about that you know it's really interesting a new thing not just another putting a hat on a hat right well okay cool i mean yeah i'm i'm just i'm glad it's gonna be good i guess uh like to see carrieunaga, you know, doing his, yeah, that's what he, he does not miss either. Um, but yeah, I just,
Starting point is 00:15:08 again, we keep saying this, just fucking let so many people have so many fucking ideas. Like, yeah, you know, all of these things that you, that they hang on to started off as a new fucking idea that everyone loved.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And that's why it was great. And now like, i'm just sort of like i start eye rolling and all of it but yeah good luck um yeah speaking of uh hat on a hat people need to check out that video you just showed us of the top oh yeah i mean that tiktok trend with the baby keem kendrick top of top of the morning. Just search that hashtag. You'll see many clever top of the morning, top of the morning, top of the morning comedic. Cinema is trending and not for the art form, but in the S-I-N-E-M-A way. So during a private event meeting with the president, she made it clear. She's still not on board with the 3.5,
Starting point is 00:16:06 uh, trillion social spending plan and AKA, like what, what it's going to cost to help take this country. And like, you know, sort of the right direction, more of the right direction than it's ever been,
Starting point is 00:16:19 uh, in our lifetime. Uh, and it's hesitant to engage on some specifics until the infrastructure package passes the house and okay this is yeah again this is yeah not willing to negotiate and she like well you'll hear more about it on tomorrow's episode but you know they're in a space where the plan was to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which is what she's talking about. She's like, I won't talk till that passes, but also working on the reconciliation bill, this $3.5 trillion bill at the same time. So there's no gaming going on to say like,
Starting point is 00:16:56 you know, the, the progressives want to keep their leverage to be able to say, you need, we need to be doing this. This is what what you promised voters and cinema is trying to change the dynamic again to say well i won't talk about the big thing unless you do the thing that takes away their leverage first and i don't know i mean that there's already there's already uh you know the democratic i think packs that are already putting money together to find someone to primary her, uh, because this is just her and Joe mansion. They're so in, they are essentially a corporate entity at this point,
Starting point is 00:17:32 just doing the bidding of their corporate benefactors that they don't even, they can't even get on board with the fucking platform of their own party. So yeah, uh, I don't, I don't fucking, I don't even know what, whate biden has to play to try and sway them at this point uh but if he were if he has any kind of ability to you know present a
Starting point is 00:17:54 trick pull a trick up out of his sleeve then i think it's about now otherwise fuck bro like i don't know what the fuck y'all are going to be doing in the midterms. That's funny to picture them as a corporate entity being like, so we identified a market where we could really make some Benjamins by just exploiting the shit out of our position. And finally, the book of Boba Fett is trending. I've long said my favorite novel, the book of Boba Fett is trending i i've long said my favorite novel the book of boba fett um it's you know it's your favorite it's your favorite boba recipe book yes uh yeah i mean boba fett fresh boba yeah i think i mean it's gonna be the a lot of people have been heard tell of this thing happening and now it is here uh and it's gonna be i don't know
Starting point is 00:18:47 boba fett was one of my favorite characters i enjoyed the mandalorian uh you know i had some problems with it but at the end of the day i'm like one of those star wars fans i'm like yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah okay okay no problem no problem no problem um and so i'm i'm i'm down to see this ludwig warrenson is the is doing the score uh so you know that shit's gonna be lit um yeah i don't know a lot of people are people seem to be very happy about it the poster appears to be uh boba fett pointing a gun at his dick um well i it looks like he's more in repose oh okay um but that could be it too i don't know we don't know maybe we're gonna learn something you know it's tough being a clone
Starting point is 00:19:32 out here of your father right i mean maybe that is the kind of hidden message is like because he's a clone he doesn't need this thing yeah and the same guy uh the kiwi actor tamuera morrison i'm forgive me if i mispronounce his name who was like in the prequels as jango fett he is in this now he's back in this because i think because essentially he's a clone of his dad so same actor to portray i guess him in his older age yeah cool um fortunately like star wars fans are pretty like have reasonable expectations you already see like fucking comments under the tweets like wait so he's the clone and then he's a different act and then now it's him but then it's this other guy and then people like he's a fucking clone what does it matter like The character's a fucking clone, so what do you care if it's this
Starting point is 00:20:25 old guy from this other thing? It would be the same physical body. Yeah. I don't know. This character in particular feels like... I don't know. This project feels like it's going to create a lot of
Starting point is 00:20:41 backlash from insufferable people just because boba fett was like the character that made star wars fans feel like but he's mine he's the one that i like even though he's not in it that much he's my he's my special guy to all those mando fans out there people yeah i fuck with the mandalorian culture i just love the mandalorian culture and that's why i'm married here my child is half mandalorian but we're raising them with a strong mandalorian identity uh all right well those are the things that are trending a lot of yeah a lot of popular culture uh so i'm going to have some watching to do.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Squid Game. This show, The Sopranos. You know, other stuff. It's got it all. All right. That is going to do it for us on this Wednesday afternoon. We're back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. We will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
