Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white in print. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from? Like, what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Hi, I'm Eva Longoria. Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon. Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back. And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Seeing that the most popular cocktail is the margarita,
Starting point is 00:01:52 followed by the mojito from Cuba, and the piña colada from Puerto Rico. Listen to Hungry for History on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Trend or Reveal Party. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. what if they did it oh you know the gender reveal party is uh like they're just dismantling just a building they're like dude because it's a construct but welcome to our gender reveal party open up your minds y'all damn but it's gonna be a girl that was courtesy of johnny davis every word that we just said all yeah all pre-scripted by johnny davis we like those now so for y'all doing
Starting point is 00:02:44 these title submits, do a full-on script and a nice intro. It's important that it sounds like we're just talking out of our ass and not really fully making sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that helps. You really nailed the two assholes talk.
Starting point is 00:02:59 All right. I'm Jack. That is Miles. Yeah. And here are some things that are trending tde top dog damn i thought you'll say tdz yeah that would be great top dog zeitgeist oh that would be the crossover of the century yeah but yes tde they've been trying to make it happen for a little while but we can't really find the time just yet i like the energy of these top
Starting point is 00:03:25 dogs yeah upstarts in the west coast music scene i think good things are coming from the for these td people you know what i mean they cruelly tweeted the wait is over 5 7 21 and we don't know who they're talking about could be kendrick could be sZA, could be Isaiah Rashad. Yeah, so this tweeter put together a list of how long the wait has been since the last project from their full roster. So Isaiah Rashad is 1,708 days. Lance Skywalker, 1,662. 708 days uh lance skywalker 1662 abseil uh but kendrick it's been 1484 and scissor it's been 1428 um yeah so yeah i don't know who it is i mean you know they're saying the weight i feel
Starting point is 00:04:22 like it's got to be one of those three it's got to be isaiah kendrick or sizzler yeah and because schoolboy q has been to he's already yeah he's only it's only been a couple years what was the last one oxymoron yeah uh no or no oxymoron was like his first one what am i talking about that's the one that had i got that water blank face is not even the last one it was uh after no but i love blank face that's one of my favorite albums of the past decade blank face yo there is some schoolboy q is one of my favorites in tde because look kendrick is obviously fantastic sisa's got her lane everyone's got their lane but i love q um but i hope it's kendrick or SZA because fuck those last couple albums
Starting point is 00:05:06 yeah every Kendrick album is like such an event for me like he's the one artist that I will listen to that album and nothing else for a week just Crash Talk is the new album
Starting point is 00:05:21 sorry I don't even remember that Crash Talk is the new album. It was the last Schoolboy Cube. Sorry, y'all. I don't even remember that. Crash Talk. Anyways, prayers up that it's a Kendrick album. Kevin Fiege. Fiege. Fiege, I think is how you say it. Fiege, that's right.
Starting point is 00:05:42 He is the man in charge of the marvel universe and they're having a bit of a little falling off i would say just in terms of i think fans are worried the last uh winter soldier people were like not like a lot of people didn't tune in for the finale although i don't know like people seem to like it who watched it um i think it's just star wars fans are like mandalorian or whatever you're like yeah man like it's content for the thing i like so i'll watch it right but did you are you mandalorian gang um gangdalorian um yeah i mean conceptually like with the mandalorian like culture and what it means to the star wars universe and what they represent are you like up on it though you've watched it all
Starting point is 00:06:31 uh i just started getting into season two um but like yeah i i'm liking it better than the first season which is all just like very spaghetti western type western tropes but yeah i don't know it's like anything it's like i'll because it's the aesthetic like i just love the aesthetic i'm gonna watch it and you know it is what it is so this is the most excited i've been for a marvel project in a while because they got the director of nomadland uh chloe chloe jowell who yeah i'm just excited to see I don't know like part of me is like she should just keep making
Starting point is 00:07:11 whatever the fuck she wants and not something that has to take place in the Marvel Universe but the reason it's trending is because Kevin Fage described a meeting he had at Disney where he said, I had to keep saying, this is right out of a camera.
Starting point is 00:07:30 There's no VFX work to this at all. Because it was a beautiful sunset with perfect waves and mist coming up from the shore of this giant cliffside. Really impressive stuff. So they just found out that you can do pretty stuff without vfx stuff it sounds like yeah i think chris nolan fans have been saying that for a while thank you um but anyways this is right out of a camera huh this sunset stuff it's like are you okay do you know that the earth there is shit that can happen with your eyes and that shit is cool too apparently she had to fight for uh you know a bunch of like locations that would enable her to make this movie eternals uh look as good as she wants it to look fantastic i mean look anyone who
Starting point is 00:08:21 has an opinion because you know the thing that a lot of studios do with like big budget films, they just pluck an indie director who had a really good festival flick and then burden them with like a gazillion dollar tentpole film. And then be like, well, you know, I don't know, I guess maybe it was this director, you know, like find these ways to sort of give themselves cover by putting directors in certain spots. I'm glad, you know, she has a vision and she clearly like it it works uh but i hope that doesn't i hope she brings something to marvel rather than marvel fucking her shit up yeah yeah it's a 7 000 year spanning story which i thought worked really well in old guard producer brian pointed out didn't work so well in the film adaptation of cloud atlas uh so we'll see yeah i think it can work i think i mean luckily it's a comic so they're not they're thinking in the right way of how to tell a 7 000 year story in a digestible
Starting point is 00:09:17 amount of time i hope yeah yeah and nomadland also based on a Marvel comic a few people know that Hulk comic Rudy is trending yeah FBI raided his apartment raided his place for all kinds I mean as it relates to Ukraine and illegal foreign
Starting point is 00:09:40 lobbying which I think everyone saw with their own eyes so why do you need to rate anything but sure i'm sure there's corroborating evidence and uh glad to see it makes me feel like the world might be saying after all yeah we'll see i mean who knows what i because we have yet to really see the squeeze on all these former Trump people, like legally and how that's going to, what kind of behaviors we're going to begin to see. And I'm not really looking forward to that.
Starting point is 00:10:15 But also, I hope there will be something that is, you know, resembling some kind of legal repercussion for all. Yeah, we're talking on tomorrow's episode about uh trump's return uh he's now gonna be possibly doing some what are what are those things called parades uh clan rallies clan rallies i mean rallies rallies rallies rallies yeah and it'll be interesting to see if this is just the part where hitler's in jail writing mein kampf or if this is an actual like fade right fade to black michael collins trending the dude who got left behind on the uh lunar module orbiting the moon while uh well buzz and neil went off to have their adventures uh he just passed at age 90 so shout out to michael collins uh just chilling making watching the place you stay here and make
Starting point is 00:11:16 sure everything's cool uh kind of the the most famous example of that ever happening um but yeah i i i wonder if there were any um you know deathbed confessions right it's like it was all kubrick he's like he's like i made buzz drink my pee oh shit what damn yeah what a time uh and then grossman is trending because uh and this was not like sent to me from somebody rex grossman is trending because uh he has a quarterback camp for young developing quarterbacks probably uh he that so this is that dude who we talked about on yesterday's episode who goes uh roams the country speaking to eager uh police precincts who book him out uh he's just got a full schedule telling people how to kill why they shouldn't feel guilty about killing right uh the citizens yeah the mature warrior and also how killing leads cops to have the great sex
Starting point is 00:12:27 yo he never even killed anybody right so that it seems like the great sex peg has caught people's attention because msn.com is reporting that an event of police trainers canceled after that video of him telling cops that killing people can lead to great sex resurfaced it's yeah i mean this dude needs to be in prison but first he needs to testify before congress and yeah but hopefully this is just the first step of people waking up to a true monster in our midst i mean i think step one get everybody like just so you know a lot this is what the cops this is the podcast they tune into is killology yep uh if you need more convincing about why everything needs to be completely reformed or abolished whatever need whatever the course is going to be but this i mean you can't you can't we can't
Starting point is 00:13:23 continue to have these people walking around who are in a mindset where they're like i i may have to i'm actually probably gonna have to kill somebody because this is i'm a mature warrior roaming the lands for the detritus of our society yeah and it's just not that big a deal yeah my years of study have taught me killing someone is just not that big a deal uh and he has like big ted talk energy like he has practiced this shit so much that it's yeah you could just tell it goes down easy and he is talking about killing people. Right. And basically talking about killing people of color, specifically. It's the same, like, fantastic energy that a virgin talks about sex. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:14 The same energy. Yeah. Where it's like, no, I'm like, you know, I'm talking to these other people about. It's just, it's completely disconnected from whatever you think it is. Or what, it's actually, it's only about what you think it is. Not what whatever you think it is or what it's actually it's only about what you think it is not what the reality of it is while also not acknowledging what it means to end a life or what that would do to you psychologically not just saying dude it's going to be fine it's not like you're you're not you're not bungee jumping for the first time this is like
Starting point is 00:14:40 some real shit but i think that's the whole point is that you need people like grossman to completely reduce that sort of experience down to something like dude no you just spin spin off of that shit hop in your truck get us get some arby's you'll be good don't worry about it it's nothing and that's why uh just yeah i hope i hope this is the beginning of him we see tweets of him being like I'm being cancelled by the mainstream media I can't wait also one of the most interesting looking faces
Starting point is 00:15:13 in that it looks like it's been shrunk down by a photoshop filter and like stuck on a normal sized head yeah also like he's got like schemey eyes you know what i mean because his eyes are so close together like yeah they're flounder he's shady he's shady yeah yeah anyways uh those are some things that are trending we are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show until then
Starting point is 00:15:38 be kind to each other be kind to yourselves wear a mask don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will be back tomorrow. Talk to y'all then. Bye. Bye.
