Starting point is 00:01:43 about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the Biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean?
Starting point is 00:01:58 It's right here in black and white in print. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Uh-oh, it's the PM dinner bell and it's time to see what's
Starting point is 00:02:13 trending. I don't even have a clever title today because again, look, substitute teacher. You know, he does things a little different. I know he smells like nog chompa in cool water. That's actually really cool. You know, he does things a little different. I know he smells like Nag Champa in cool water. That's actually really cool. You know, people in the class were actually saying, like, we're kind of over it.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Yeah. We just wished that he would just show up and, you know, hang out with us. Exactly, dude. And his, like, Crocs, dude. Super cool. His Crocs have, like, LaCroix, like, logos on them. Those are sick, dude. And he calls them his LaCrocs.
Starting point is 00:02:44 He's so fucking random and that's part of what i love about so random i know remember like back then when random you're like oh drinking problem like like fun teachers like like when you got i got older i was seeing my bars i'm like that's right bro i didn't have the fucking life experience to know what okay you were just a fun guy there's i don't know i don't know if you saw this over the weekend but there was like a a blip of a trend it's no longer trending of of a bunch of uh tiktok comments on how like gen z was roasting millennials by just saying that they're like alcoholics who are who won't stop saying what their hair they're like they're like millennials are alcoholics who won't stop saying what their harry potter house is and saying hair they're like they're like millennials are alcoholics who won't stop
Starting point is 00:03:25 saying what their harry potter house is and saying that they're adulting and it was i mean it went down easy i was like save us no one's no one's arguing truly no i love i love when the the younger generation their consciousness comes online with like takes on like skewering the older generation because like i'm i'm sure gen xers loved when like millennials were like oh dude like i don't know if they did but for me i'm like i love that i love this millennial trashing content like i'm live i'm here for it's good yeah and and usually it's like pretty on pretty like spot on so right it's not like when like older generations try and articulate what the younger ones are about when it's like millennials are just about their avocados
Starting point is 00:04:12 okay and that's right right it's never like the bad faith interpretation it's like no that no gen z knows knows alcoholics talking about Harry Potter. I mean, hey, you know what, kid? You got this coming for you, too, because we were one of the brokest generations out there. So wait till you are clinging to your childhood memories of books to try and make sense of your reality. Anyway, what's trending now? What is trending? Hydroxychloroquine.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Again? Well, apparently this time it's because the fda has revoked its emergency use authorization that they did like previously when they were trying to say like hey try it out but like we've known for a while that a lot of the data has shown that this is not uh it's not helping at all in In some cases it was hurting, but definitely not a treatment. But hey. It's, the fact that it's trending, this has to be the 20th time hydroxychloroquine has been trending. And it has never been trending as like, it's helpful now. Yeah, it's always about how it's fucked or useless.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Just reminding you of new examples of how it's fucked or useless just reminding you of new examples of how it's fucked well hey but when they do that i mean like i wonder though too because they know it's like clickbait for like older like older people who might not fully know what the deal is with hydroxychloroquine so like cnn's like dude the over 50 crowd they eat this shit up you can just put hydroxychloroquine as a headline and they're clicking they're like holy shit so many syllables i must click i should chloroquine i don't know um also mary trump is trending mary trump sounds like a fictional character but i'm i'm ready to take this ride with you mary trump sounds like uh like amelia bedelia's friend or something mary fucked trump there there is that anything no all right it goes back in the draft it's trump i guess trump is a verb but it would be about like okay anyway so that's
Starting point is 00:06:13 a draft yeah we'll put that one in drafts but we will broadcast it uh mary's so mary's father is fred jr donald's older brother i think is his older brother but he died in 1981 from a heart attack and anyway like anyone with the last name trump you have to imagine they're just opportunistic goons and goblins and this woman mary trump says that she was actually like pivotal to like this pulitzer prize winning investigation to trump's tax schemes like she had basically like let them in to like like you know get this immaterial for the uh for the article um and then so she's got a new book out i think it's called like hold on the name is so dramatic it like almost it feels like something a trump like a begrudging trump relative would write
Starting point is 00:06:58 it's called too much and never enough um because that's, that's what this whole family is about. But they say- Appropriately vague. Yeah. So amongst these other things, there's apparently quotes between one of Trump's sister, Mary Ann Trump Berry, who's like a retired judge, where she's got some scathing takes on her brother.
Starting point is 00:07:21 But again, even when you think about these books, I don't know what they do because they don't move the needle like in terms of our like people being safer who are like you know who this administration is a direct threat to it's just like it's just the trash that i think the media has like gotten us used to like wanting in this presidency uh But there's also says there will, this book will also allege that Fred Sr., the father of the family, and Donald, quote,
Starting point is 00:07:52 contributed to his death and neglected him at critical stages of his addiction when talking about Fred Jr. Oh, wow. Yeah. So I don't know what that actually ends up meaning, but I don't know i i will i will not
Starting point is 00:08:07 pay for this book no uh but i will read book or not i know this man's a monster so yeah like we we i i don't need to know but but it's like i will read a brief article summarizing the salient points right right right exactly fine i will because i have a feeling that may be the biggest thing of like his his whoa his sister doesn't like him and his dad and him and his dad like teamed up against their like vulnerable like family member and drove and like made their situation worse because of a total lack of understanding of their own whatever i that's the brand yeah no it is 100 uh next, SCOTUS, which we'll get into tomorrow, but I think for anybody, if you've had your eyes or ears open, pretty substantive decision from the Supreme Court
Starting point is 00:08:56 in a 6-3, 6-3 decision. You'll love to see it. Which is amazing, yeah. Only the three straight-up monsters of thomas alito and kavanaugh were like i think people should be able to discriminate lgbtqia people just because yeah i think because uh that's what i'm seeing written down here i think it let me hold on my buzzer is going off on my back it ours yep it's the founding fathers actually said that we should discriminate uh sorry i'm also
Starting point is 00:09:25 getting a text from some wealthy americans who are reminding me that i'm only there because of them and i better do what the fuck i'm supposed to do oh yeah in any case six three uh that ain't nothing that's that's um yeah more than i would have expected, to be honest. Yeah. Usually these are like, you know, the nail biter five force, you know. Yeah. But it's Gorsuch writing down that he obviously believes that, yeah, this based on the text of this law, there's no way you could discriminate anybody for, you know, their gender identity or sexual orientation, whatever. This is all seems pretty much here. So. All right. We're done. whatever this this is all seems pretty much here so all right we're done the other thing though the supreme court said was that they would not be hearing any cases about qualified immunity so that's a bit of a fucking shitty thing because not only are we looking for you know freedom for everybody we're also trying to hold the police accountable and qualified immunity allows them
Starting point is 00:10:21 to be protected uh so they can't be sued. It's almost like the government has no interest in doing anything but tiny, tiny little reforms. Yeah. But hey, everybody stay engaged because this is why we can learn who our representatives are if you don't know and begin to talk about these issues with them in your community and just get out there whenever you can. And this is ongoing. This is ongoing. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:10:46 And then lastly, Florida is trending. And I have a feeling a lot of places are. I think Phoenix now or somewhere in Arizona is considered the new coronavirus hotbed in terms of like the per capita infection rate. It's like way more than New York even was. And a lot of the common themes we're seeing even in the state of California
Starting point is 00:11:05 is reopening too damn soon when your numbers are continuing to rise. And so I think it's been about one week now since in Florida, a lot of the counties were able to go into phase two, you know, and get people kind of out there in some sense of normalcy. But they said at least three bars in Northern and Central Florida announced closures because of virus concerns between Friday and Sunday
Starting point is 00:11:32 as the state's Department of Health confirmed record increases in additional virus diagnoses following days of similar numbers. It seems like this will continue to happen too, where like the, even states that were on a pretty good track to reopen. And I would not include Florida in that count.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Right. But like all of a sudden they're like, actually, we need money. So let's open everything. And then people are the numbers are going up everywhere and things will just get closed again. So, yeah, it's so wild how i hope it was worth it i mean the whole thing is like we're the cdc was saying dude don't even think about opening until cases start declining that's the only way you can even think that you're out even close to be getting out of the woods meanwhile everyone's like well can we get like a special like just uh just make an like an exception for us so we can you know the chamber of commerce is breathing down my neck uh and i just got to get these gotta get these restaurants
Starting point is 00:12:31 open and so many people believe like our leadership because that simply because some of these places are open that somehow we're at less risk or something it It's really, it's just shitty. I mean, I don't know what else to say. I mean, at this point, if you, if you trust every level of your local leadership, like where,
Starting point is 00:12:53 where are you? Where's your head? What's going on? Buddy. Buddy, come on, come on home. All right.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Well, that's what's trending. Tune in tomorrow morning for a wonderful episode. And keep continuing to listen in. You know, like we do. Jamie, thank you for joining me. That was Jamie Loftus, if you didn't know already. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:14 It was her. Thank you so much. Take care of yourselves. Take care of each other. Seriously be kind to yourself. And I want people to understand what it means to be kind to yourself. When you have negative self-talk, like, how the fuck did you do that? You shouldn't be doing that. Oh, you're so stupid. Begin to allow yourself to say things to yourself like, it's okay, you know? Or I feel angry and say, it's okay, but I'm going to figure something out.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Be kind to yourself, okay? Try and be nice, nice on your inner self, self. Love y'all. Take care. Bye. Bye. Bye. project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. Can Kay trust her sister or is history repeating itself? We're floating somewhere in the cosmos, but we've lost our map. Yeah, because you refused to ask for directions. It's Space Gem, there are no roads. Good point. So, where are we headed? Into the
Starting point is 00:14:37 unknown, of course. Join us on In Our Own World as we uncover hidden truths, navigate the depths of culture, identity, and the human spirit. With a hint of mischief. Starting point is 00:14:53 Trust us, it's out of this world. In California during the summer of 1975, within the span of 17 days and less than 90 miles, two women did something no other woman had done before, try to assassinate the president of the United States. One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nicknamed Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore.

I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite.
