Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network,
Starting point is 00:01:54 iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of transplosive west coast shit that is courtesy of fighter the night man yet another um chronic 2001 i'm never gonna stop bringing that up well you know it came up in 99 that album is a lie all right try and turn that into like a fact checking like debunking thing oh like on i hate that out you like that album dude it came out in 99 it's called crying 2001 like well let me guess check your watch what does it say we're in the year 2024
Starting point is 00:02:38 holy crap bro holy crap bro alright I'm Jack that's Miles these are the things that are trending first of all should we just talk about the fact that like there seems to be a big thing going around about a mass shooting in downtown LA and
Starting point is 00:03:00 it doesn't seem like it's this thing just as an aside, that was something that was trending. A lot of people had like, we're sharing this like IG like back and forth about someone being tipped off about it. And the police are saying that no credible seems to be happening. So,
Starting point is 00:03:17 and we find the police credible. Um, in this instance, you want to hope that what they're saying is for real but yeah it's uh it's it's it's wild i mean downtown right now there's like that there's like oh there are a lot of uh foreign dignitaries there the summit of the americas is happening plus joe byron oh yeah because of uh james his appearance on the james s kimmel show yes yes um but yeah all right uh James S. Kimmel show. Yes. Yes. But yeah. All right. Fox News trending because it's just this is January time.
Starting point is 00:03:54 This is the time that I like to check in with Fox News. When? Yeah. With our friends at Fox News, because it's always interesting to see like how they're reacting to a story that seems to, you know, be of interest to everybody in the country in this case the beginning of the tv uh event of the year january 6th hearing that's going to be on all other news channels um and they're you know they're doing they're doing their thing yeah we'll just kick it off yes the biggest thing that every other news channel is covering and guess what fox news has to go they're back in their old habits wait something we got to create some distractions uh deploy
Starting point is 00:04:39 xenophobia it's a story that's keep getting worse by the day because an administration not only has a bad illegal immigration policy and border policy, they have a non-existent one. In fact, you almost have to conclude that they want it to happen. But the worst is yet to come. How do we know? Because there's over 10,000 illegal immigrants set to storm our borders, two-thirds of which are women and children who then become our responsibility to clothe to food to school to food because our system is so broken because our wall is rotting in the middle of a
Starting point is 00:05:12 desert which you already paid for you seem helpless just to watch it well okay so i mean that is a story that's keep getting worse and to food them to clothe food them it's bullshit man fox news is best-selling distraction plan the immigrant caravan uh remember that dodge caravan commercial it used to be america's best-selling minivan dodge caravan anyway they're going back with that. 10,000 are set to storm our borders. Bro, people look at a million people dying in this country, and they can't bat a fucking eye. But 10,000, I'm sure because you're saying, but they are brown, you know, doing what they got to do. A lot of energy going into dehumanizing people
Starting point is 00:06:00 that are trying to survive. Yeah, and they're women and children. That's scary because you got to food them and you got to close them. Like what? But I don't know why I'm surprised. You know, these people are not able to empathize with anything that isn't a statue of Robert E.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Lee being toppled. So great. Not surprised there. And just to underline the point about, you know, we always talk about the people that are at the apex of mainstream media just listen this isn't the same broadcast this fucking exchange with people on the heels of being like oh my gosh migrants are coming this is like their cross talk they start off talking about how chill it is to just sip drinks in their beach houses in Adirondack chairs is what they're talking about right now. People on their Adirondack chairs sitting on their front porches watching their kids playing.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Basically every house. It was the perfect community. Can I point out one thing? Adirondack chairs are overrated. Not good for your spine. It's like you're sitting in a hall. I say to myself, am I happy here? Because the wood...
Starting point is 00:07:10 They say they'd be better with a cushion and a drink holder. Please, we need cushions for Adirondacks. And a drink. You don't need a drink holder because the arms are flat. But they're kind of at an angle. The world's burning. Do what I did. The ones we have. Do what I did.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Get a butler to hold your drink. You say, here's another sip, and they hand it right over to you. Thank you very much. Okay, good. Thank you very much. I hope you claim the one you're taxing. No, no, thanks. I'm not thirsty.
Starting point is 00:07:33 I hope you claim that butler and your taxes. They're expensive. Yep. He just, yeah. He's here legally. My butler's in here legally. There's about 15,000 butlers trying to get across the border. The largest caravan's coming in.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Wow. Holy shit. They'd hit classism and xenophobia in one go. Just what the fuck was that? So anyway, that's the reality they're in. Fox News viewers, can you relate? Right before that clip started, they were talking about how like trying to make it sound idyllic.
Starting point is 00:08:06 And they said it was just like Mayberry, which is just like the all white community from like 1950s TV. Cool. Oh, shit. Wow. Anyway, so that's the world they want to live in. Yeah, clearly.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Diet Coke is trending. I thought you saw this. Something by the name of daniel crosberry uh daniel crosby i got mayberry on my mind man just crosberries perfect uh so uh daniel crosby at daniel crosby tweeted i used to drink tons of diet coke but it's been one month since i've had a drop i want to share some of the changes i've observed in myself over that time cool um one my health is unchanged two i'm less i'm less happy three my one source of joy is gone thanks for encouraging me on this journey um so i like that great great tweet um but it has kicked off a whole conversation about people it's a very polarizing substance in general yeah you either love it or you don't fuck with it i've been on both sides of that actually you know growing up i thought it was like a allergy that
Starting point is 00:09:23 i had because it tasted so bad to me it tasted to me like regular coke with a bunch of like coins and tylenols dissolved in it um and then that's a yeah look as a kid i know the flavor of putting a bunch of coins in your mouth yeah what's a bunch of tylenols tastes like have you ever like kept a tylenol in your mouth too long while you're like trying to find a glass of water to swallow it and Oh, and it burns through that coating? It's just like chemicals. It just tastes like chemicals. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:52 In a future without access to the actual ingredients of Coke and the only water that's left is dirty mop water and they're just doing their best to use random chemicals to trick us into thinking um so that probably like four years off from right now um that's what coke tastes diet coke tastes like to me then as an adult i definitely like you know i started uh drinking it just as an energy regulation device like uh no yeah it was like the right amount of caffeine it's a small amount of caffeine but significant enough to feel it uh no sugar so like it doesn't like fuck with your
Starting point is 00:10:32 energy levels with like a sugar crash you're talking like this like this is objectively like a new substance every and there's no sugar it's just neurotoxins that your brain and thinking it's sweet that's that's what that was the whole thing for me that was the entire reason that i tricked my brain into thinking i liked it um but yeah eventually it was giving me that like that little hit of energy and effervescence that definitely worked for me and i don't i don't think i've found anywhere else uh i don't really drink it anymore but i just don't fuck with it in general if i fucked with a diet soda it was caffeine free diet pepsi and why would you do that because my friend my friend's grandma used to drink it at their crib and i didn't have soda at my house so that
Starting point is 00:11:15 would be the one they had i'm like fuck it i'll make this shit work it's in a gold can yeah that did have like one of the better cans for sure yeah design caffeine free diet pepsi absolutely uh and so that kind of pushed me into the like so i then i caffeine-free diet pepsi absolutely uh and so that kind of pushed me into the like so i then i like started drinking diet pepsi because it tasted just maniacally sweet and i was like this can't be real wow uh but now i just i'm not yeah the sodas and i we're not we don't hang out that often although i've never wanted a diet coke more than like growing up in the valley because like you go to old, like an old shitty school,
Starting point is 00:11:46 the AC doesn't really work. So like it will be hot in the classroom. And like, I would see a teacher's diet Coke on their desk is like glistening from being sweating. I'm like, yo, give me that shit.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Give me that. And my teachers drank a lot of diet soda. Oh yeah. Realizing that's all I think of is like a big ass chunky lanyard full of keys on it and like a whistle and a big ass diet coke that's like what a teacher is in my mind like that's the teacher starter kit did you have any teacher that like smoked heavily like you could like smell it on them and you could like gauge their mood by like how close you were to lunchtime and oh yeah and how far away they were from yeah and how or how close they were to lunchtime and how far away they were from...
Starting point is 00:12:25 Or how close they were to about to take the smoothest drag off of a Benson Hedges 100. Yeah. I know exactly. It was our world religions teacher. And he used to do this shit. He would put a movie on and say he'd go to the bathroom
Starting point is 00:12:38 and he would smoke a cig somewhere. Yeah. Good for them. Good for them. Anyways, cigarettes and diet coke great combo kids uh go give it a shot it'll help with your healthy nerves all right let's take a quick break we'll be right back i'm jess casaveto executive producer of the hit netflix documentary series dancing for the devil the 7M TikTok cult.
Starting point is 00:13:05 And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden.
Starting point is 00:14:02 We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions. Like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it, like you miss 100% of the shots you never take?
Starting point is 00:14:42 Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports where we live at the intersection of sports and culture up first I explore the making of a rivalry Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese I know I'll go down in history people are talking about women's basketball just because of
Starting point is 00:15:18 one single game every great player needs a foil I ain't really near them boys I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this?
Starting point is 00:16:39 We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing they're just dreams dream sequence is a new horror thriller from blumhouse television iheart radio and realm listen to dream sequence on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever and we're back and kelly is trending uh ryan kelly to be exact kelly spelled k-e-l-l-e-y so incorrectly but this is the leading republican candidate in the like gubernatorial race in Michigan trying to get Whitmer out and
Starting point is 00:17:30 get a Republican in there, baby. And it turns out, so this morning, there was all sorts of reports that the FBI had raided his home and arrested him. What? For what?
Starting point is 00:17:46 Yeah. I mean, for... What could he have done? Witch hunt, man. Oh, wait. Because he was up in it on January 6th? Okay. Someone may say this...
Starting point is 00:17:58 Okay, he happened to be in D.C. on January 6th. Marching up the steps. And just followed the loud noises. Listen to this. This is apparently him listen come on let's go this is this is war baby this is it anyway so that's your governor governor gubernatorial candidate um which again sadly i feel like that is more and more going to be a qualification to run as a republican like were you there right yeah like were you up in it if not you're that's your that's just capery and we don't want liars in here we want real people who are completely off their shit ready to bring in the big time fascism and this will help presumably this will help him as a as a candidate assuming
Starting point is 00:18:47 that he's able to continue to run but they have like five gop candidates taken off the ballot because uh they used fraud oh to enter the race oh um yeah they collected a bunch of fake ass signatures i'm like yep there it is. All right, we qualify. Oh, we don't. And then also we got a shout out Mr. Peter Navarro because we referenced him the other day of just about how much his, you know, his fortunes have turned since he was talked just screaming about how he likes to do coup stuff, ignoring a subpoena, then getting arrested by the FBI. We thought, I thought he was going to still keep his tough guy energy up, but he went on Sebastian Gorka's like just awful streaming show and is
Starting point is 00:19:38 literally begging people for money to cover his legal bills right now i mean it's just i mean this is so wrong seven this book taking back trump's america help me please i'm looking at a half a million dollars help me legal expenses according to some legal experts or more this could go to a million i've got to raise that money i i can't kill my retirement oh you can by defending this this baseless charges taking back trump's america please go to amazon right now no don't i can't drain my retirement is not the like that's so wild oh homie you're in america guess what if this was an insurance company they'd ask you if you have some retirement you can dip into so you might have to dip into that shit i mean i'm sure the grifter fucking saviors will
Starting point is 00:20:32 come in and you know give them their hard-earned bucks to keep this fucking guy afloat but my god help me please he sounded like pops on the wayans brothers help me help me here no like literally help me because i'm gonna like have to sell one of one of my uh vacation homes that i'm planning on retiring into i'm looking at half a million dollars in legal expenses i don't i tweeted this yesterday but if you i don't know if you were a big fan of arrested development that first season where carl weathers becomes part of the show. And there's like when Lindsay is promoting Cloud Mirror Vodka at the restaurant and she's like, oh,
Starting point is 00:21:11 like she's like, oh wait, my husband's here. And he's like, your husband's Carl Weathers. And he runs and there's like a scuffle that breaks out in the restaurant. There's a moment that's so iconic for me, Carl Weathers moment where Carl Weathers is clearly a grifter on this show.
Starting point is 00:21:24 And when they show after this scuffle, he's like the first guy talking to the news and he's holding like a, a to go aluminum foil swan. And he's like, he's like, I don't know what I'm going to do. And he lifts into frame this to go swan mind you in this episode, he didn't pay for anything.
Starting point is 00:21:39 He stole this shit during the fight goes, I'm looking at $50,000 in medical expenses, like trying to just find a way for him to make money off of this and i was like this is the exact same energy he said i'm looking at half a million dollars in legal expenses it could go up from there could go up from there so you know definitely like um you know guy at a telethon who has a gun trained on him from off camera vibes uh oh yeah that that old familiar scenario that we've that we've all seen before um anyways you hate to see it we'll file that under you hate to see it can go on the you hate to see it wing of the uh end of capitalism museum hate to see it uh Fingers crossed emoji. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:26 All right. So we talked yesterday. Jurassic Park, Dominion reviews, not positive. There is a new one. So you off the net, off the strength of the negative reviews, you bought your ticket. Yeah, I had to okay if it's when someone said like excel mediocrity like i like when people who are film critics decide to go you know what fuck you right we're going all in on this there's something that had offended their film critics cinema sensibilities so much that
Starting point is 00:23:00 they feel like i just have to eviscerate this fucking thing and i like i like when that kind of energy is inspired um did you think based on uh our conversation about the richard roper review that i didn't know that the dave matthews band bus opened up don't get defensive because a couple people reference it we all know you've been talking about the shit bus for since time immemorial i was just curious if that if that's how it came no i got tagged too people were like i don't know if you know but i'm like yes i know and i appreciate believe you haven't heard of this i'm like have you heard the show we this has been like uh i'm just talking about the specificity of the reference because i i have
Starting point is 00:23:38 been hearing that reference lately so i am wondering like did did it come up reintroduce somewhere no yeah the daily zeitgeist okay it's just in the zeitgeist um though you guys should listen to the daily zeitgeist you should you'd hear more about this um anyways the i wanted to talk about the reviews for rrr triple r um have you seen this trailer miles no it's an indian action film um okay it the the trailer is wild like it i'm just gonna like at one point a dude like somebody gets knocked off a motorcycle the other guy like puts his foot on the back wheel of the motorcycle flips it up and just grabs it with one hand and uses it as a weapon. Oh,
Starting point is 00:24:29 I think I saw a screencap, like something like this was clipped out on Reddit because it's like the most wild looking shit. There's like Cirque du Soleil acrobatics choreographed into the action. Like it's the violence. Oh my God. This dude just clocked a woman in the head with like a tree trunk or some yeah they they have this thing they're doing like the the violence
Starting point is 00:24:52 is very like innovative i'll say it's apparently very glory very very just kick shorty in the whoa yeah yeah yeah the um they're doing like small things differently like they have have you ever seen a like neon light bulb like a long tubular neon light bulb like shatter like where every single bulb yeah yeah yeah like we used to hit each other with them all the time they appear to have like things like big logs but they're like built out of that so they're just like smashing them over each other's heads but they're just like shattering everywhere um it's it looks like so much fun i assumed it would end there as like a fun trailer um the reviews are coming out for this movie and they're saying it's great like the whole movie is as great as the trailer indicates? I mean, in the sense,
Starting point is 00:25:45 like, cause it seems like the Daniels like directed it. Yeah. Like, cause the, the violence is like on an absurd level, but it, it,
Starting point is 00:25:53 it's so creative. You're like, yeah, I guess I never thought about that. If you got in a head on collision, you were launched out of a convertible, but then a rifle flew into your hands and then you took a long shot while you were still 20 feet in the air.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Like, yeah, exactly. Yo, I, this might be the most excited i've been about a movie like i'm so excited about this i might actually watch backwards at the end yes on yeah all right wait so what happened is it out i mean this looks like it came out it's on netflix like we can watch it on netflix right now all right then why are we so all right why am i talking right now what have a good day y'all go watch the byron hearings piece yeah i mean that's really it like that's there there's also they they announced todd phillips posted the first confirmation that the sequel to joker is moving forward joker 2 and then it's like the subheading means the madness of two.
Starting point is 00:26:47 So it's, I don't know. It's going to be a play on like Bonnie and Clyde. It's Foli-A-Dukes. Yeah. Well, that's the exact French pronunciation. I don't know if you wanted to. Jocker. Foli-A-Dukes.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Foli-A-Dukes. Foli-A-Dukes. There you go. Wow. So it's a Bonnie and Cly that's what that's just my guess is that like that that's one way it could go the madness of two is or is there i mean is there i'm sure some comic person is like this is a reference to this part of something like is it i don't whatever just yeah it'll just be just curious. Like, the second I heard of the second movie, I'm like, which classic movie aesthetic will they be choosing to rip off on this one?
Starting point is 00:27:33 Will it still be, like, Taxi Driver New York? Will it be some other, like, piece of 70s cinema? Will it be Double Impact? Like, you know, one of those, like, twin movies where there's twins, twin action stars. I mean, I don't know. Hopefully they don't put off that audience by having a woman in a lead role.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Yeah. Then it might render the film inert. You know what I mean? Because the same people that were activated by the first one were like, what is this, dude? A chick? I like Todd Phillips. As a director, I todd phillips uh as a director i always look to him for my like best depictions of women and film 100 i mean so like i didn't work yeah that
Starting point is 00:28:12 would be great um all right those are some of the things that are trending uh we are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. West Coast shit. I'm Carrie Champion
