Starting point is 00:01:35 the making of a rivalry, Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:57 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this edition of Trend Sync. This is the Hit Boy Band, brought to you by Johnny Davis on the Discord. The trending episode. Yes, it's me, Myles, and I'm here with Jaquese Neal. Jaquese, what's up? How are you? Yo, let's get trendy. Look, you already know what we're going to talk about. But we're going to about but we're gonna
Starting point is 00:02:25 talk about we're gonna talk a lot about it tomorrow's episode where you'll have look i'll just let you know it's me jakees and solomon giorgio and we'll talk at length about what was happening at the oscars last night um but let's get some other trends out of the way first the foo fighters drummer taylor hawkins died over the weekend uh i think in Columbia, when they were about to do a show. He was dead at 50 years old. You know, as someone who had a few Foo Fighters songs that he used to fucking get pumped up to as a youth. Really, really sad news. Really talented drummer, too.
Starting point is 00:02:57 It's really sad, man. It's really sad, too. I feel like deaths now just hit harder than they did over three years ago before almost a million people have died from COVID. So now every time you hear about a death and it's at 50, it's like, God damn, this is too much. Yeah. And I think that's part of getting older, too. Like when I was 20, I could have been the most insensitive motherfucker who walked planet Earth. And then as you experience more, you gain more empathy. You're like, oh my God, this guy I never met.
Starting point is 00:03:32 But you just kind of feel, I think, because anyone who has any connection to the Foo Fighters or just generally hearing about someone's untimely passing, yeah, it's not quite a cause for celebration. One thing I do want to point out i will okay we'll lightly touch on the will smith chris rock thing um broadly i will say everybody lost last night uh with that shit going down that's for sure uh and you know depending on what what prism you're looking at it through man you could arrive at so many different conclusions uh but the one we definitely laugh the hardiest at are these pearl clutching people who are like and the rage could have killed somebody put that shit back so much violence and rage oh i mean the the peace in
Starting point is 00:04:18 this country is predicated on black people not acting violent uh because of all of the terrible things that have been uh perpetrated against don't worry about that dimension of it okay we'll just talk about the interesting conspiracy theories that have already cropped up about it because they're already conspiracy theories that have emanated from the will smith chris rocks lab first up i just want to say people are already trying to profit off of this. There are nightlights being sold. There are t-shirts being sold with like the Robin meme, the Batman slapping Robin meme, except with Will and Chris,
Starting point is 00:04:52 there is a, there's a fucking bed spread. You can buy that says, keep my wife's name out your fucking mouth. Um, so, you know, capitalism is going to do its thing.
Starting point is 00:05:08 No matter what. Um, the one thing that is really i can't i would never buy a bread spray with that on it no if you honestly the only i don't know who the fuck is who would buy this i don't think any black people are gonna buy that shit no i don't know anybody who's gonna black person's gonna bother to have that but you know i people just want to sell a meme and i don't know living who's gonna bother to have that but you know people just wanna sell a meme I don't know living on a dream selling these memes this is messed up can you imagine somebody coming home and finding your
Starting point is 00:05:34 and finding your wife like cheating on you on top of a keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth sheet I would die of a broken heart that's how i would tend to be i would just die i couldn't even get mad it would be such a such a violation of everything i thought was true yeah that would be like god telling you it's time to go yeah really it's like i don't know how else to make it more cruel for you to look at something and then lose your life. But this is it.
Starting point is 00:06:07 This is the thing that we saw. Everyone with an agenda somehow found a way to make this about whatever the fuck they're trying to do. Whether you want to vilify, you know, if you're rightly saying, like, you know, violence is wrong. There's an example to say, well, this is not how people should be behaving. an example to say well this is this is not how people should be behaving if you're fucking racist you damn sure saw those tweets where people were just saying like how out of control he is how dangerous he is how the police should be called how he assaulted him but you know remember when adrian brody kissed holly berry against her will when he won an oscar that was also anyway different times i saw a white woman literally tweet uh it's so disappointing to
Starting point is 00:06:45 find out how many of my friends are ableist because they're not supporting will smith slapping chris rock i'm just like what that's like the loops that people are jumping through you skip like five steps themselves yeah you're skipping five steps insane it's very insane uh yeah and look i think everyone knows uh look you can tune in tomorrow we gotta talk about it a lot um i just want to say there are like people like uh in q anon they're then like on the right a lot of people are saying like on these q anon web boards oh this was all done so chris rock and will sm Smith could get everybody to stop talking about what President Trump is doing. The fuck are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:07:31 Like, you know, like they're actors, you know. Brother, we ain't talking about President Trump. Yeah, we didn't need this shit to not talk about it. Then a lot of people are just saying like, this is all this is a setup for something coming. This means it's if this is a distraction, that means we got a big q drop coming because that's just how the new world order works you know they're gonna get chris rock to get smacked by will smith because some i don't know jfk jr's back or some shit then one person said i know that's fake because we all know Will Smith is actually dead and that's his clone. Yo, man, how'd they find out,
Starting point is 00:08:11 Miles? How'd they find out? Because we're sloppy. Miles, you know we're not supposed to be telling family secrets. Well, we were sloppy the second that we had Beyonce throw up the rock in a video and they knew it was the Illuminati. The new Illuminati was upon us. That was the biggest mistake we did. That's on us, man. They they starting to find out all the secrets yeah we just put it all out there
Starting point is 00:08:30 you know just advertising it um but anyway so this is a lot of information a lot of ideas swirling bad takes uh and you know mod apatow you know your dad judd is really out here making making a mess of things with his takes. A lot of people were like, oh, wow, the person who barely casts black actors or performers in their shit suddenly has got some concern? No wonder he don't cast no black people in his shit. Because if we step on somebody's toe, then we're fucking cutting their heads off or some shit to him. Like, we're violent. We're just
Starting point is 00:09:05 violent and rage yeah those words very very coded um when was the last time you think anything happened like this that got like united the entire world to come in with their takes typically like there's stuff in politics and that's some how brings people in but the fact that it's like chris rock and will smith who are just like outsized figures in the media for the last few decades that like now everybody has something to say and i'm really because i've never seen such a spread like even like russian misinformation people are like finding a way to weave this into some kind of narrative which is wild um i'm hard pressed to think yeah i can't really think of any i mean it's pretty wild to know like less than five years after the la la land shit the
Starting point is 00:09:52 oscars has a moment that's even bigger right uh or more infamous right but as far as everybody and take yeah i can't think of any moment that has quite lightning bolted through the zeitgeist like this has over the past 24 hours i know not even like glow like shit like the you know uh pandora papers and things that like have real tangible effects we're like yeah this is how the wealthy they're hoarding their wealth well can't even be bothered fucking the ufos motherfucking climate change being like we have 10 years at best before we've you know we've completely fucked ourselves but this uh damn get united everybody this is wild let's take a quick break uh we'll be right back i'm jess casaveto executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series,
Starting point is 00:10:47 Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members
Starting point is 00:11:20 and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is
Starting point is 00:12:02 my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it, like you miss 100% of the shots you never take.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm K Carrie Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports,
Starting point is 00:12:50 where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game?
Starting point is 00:13:25 And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course, lucha libre. It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Lucha libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. Santos! Santos!
Starting point is 00:14:22 Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. Santos! Santos! Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask as part of My Cultura Podcast Network
Starting point is 00:14:43 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. And we're back. Next thing trending is John Eastman, who was, you know, Trump legal pal, lawyer. A judge just ordered him to release emails that he was trying to keep away from the January 6th committee. release emails that he was trying to keep away from the january 6 committee because in the judge's estimation he was like it's it's likely more than not that trump committed a fraud so you can't really all this shit that you're trying to claim to protect this stuff from being uh shared nah i'm not rolling with it um they said had trump's plan worked it would have permanently ended the peaceful transition of power undermining American democracy and the Constitution.
Starting point is 00:15:27 So, you know, some receipts will flow out. But again, I don't I'm tired of just seeing so many fucking things come out. And I'm like, is there like a seven year delay? You know, between fucking around and finding out. It's very weird. know between fucking around and finding out weird is it is a very weird thing to just kind of think about the fact that all right how long does this shit take and i know things take long and things like that but i don't know if it's just the black in me but something about it feels like it's gonna take so long that eventually we're not gonna like they're not gonna even care about it anymore like
Starting point is 00:16:03 that's how it feels yeah i and i know legally that's not the case but right i mean we get it you have to build a case you want it to be ironclad so when you take it to trial that you're not fucking around and all they have to do is like well what about this and suddenly fuck well we hastily put this case together didn't work but just to see right constantly what we're seeing like the the energy being like i don't know yeah clarence thomas's wife is on some q anon shit and was texting the chief of staff and meddling in the january i don't know what's the problem here we have to ask him to recuse himself now i don't know
Starting point is 00:16:36 he'll never he's gonna die he's gonna die in that seat um but which he almost did last week apparently some people were speculating was he doing that to be a distraction? Be like, no, I'm sick. Don't, please. Not my wife. Right. Okay. Next up is, trending is Disney.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Company near and dear to your heart, Jaquis. And I'm not bringing this up to be like, you need to explain what's going on with disney so ron desantis you know just signed the bill essentially you know forbidding quote the instruction on sexual orientation gender identity in kindergarten through third grade education the don't say gay bill essentially um and a lot of people you know this this was causing a lot of problems for disney because many people are like you guys are one of the big you are like you run florida basically like you're the like one of the biggest businesses businesses in the state of florida you can make shit happen but you are out here donating to the very architects of this very very shitty bill then you had ceos coming out bob chapik and he's like well you know
Starting point is 00:17:43 like uh yeah that's bad. I just want to say we're against it overall. And we're going to think about who we give money to. And a lot of people said this isn't forceful enough. Well, now that the bill has been signed, this is a statement from Disney. Quote, Florida's HB 1557, known as the Don't Say Gay Bill, should have never passed and should never have been signed into law. Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations
Starting point is 00:18:09 working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of the LGBTQ plus members of the Disney family as well as the LGBTQ plus community in Florida and across the country. Yeah, I don't... That's cool. Feels a little... Feels a little bit like...
Starting point is 00:18:24 Too little too late. little bit like too little. Three weeks ago. Yeah. Yeah. Um, it, it, it doesn't, this is the thing where you're, you're just kind of, your biggest question is what you should have really been thinking about that when you throw cash around willy nilly, because that's how you get the sweet tax breaks that I know they're getting like to the tune of billions.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Um, because that's just how's just how the machine works. But at the same time, you have a lot of people feel let down by Disney too. Yeah, no, I do. You know, personally, as a Disney guy, it's crazy to like something and then the thing you like just be so morally opposite or do something that's so morally opposite to
Starting point is 00:19:06 what you believe right and well yeah and it's it's it's heartbreaking because you know it's like well it's just just kind of how it it makes you lose faith and something i guess you shouldn't have faith in in general which is you know capitalism and uh it's all about money yeah yeah it's a corporation man they're gonna do what they do because it's about making money at the end of the day right yeah and you know it's very it's very disingenuous to have a company who has that much power to let something happen and then say now we're going to say something and we're going to try to get it struck down now. It was like, well, yeah, because if it doesn't, you can say, well, at least I tried. But no, you didn't try.
Starting point is 00:19:52 You didn't try when you could actually make some real legitimate change before this became a law. Right. Yeah. Well, you know, I think they're living and learning. You know, we just got to be patient with these companies. That's what my mom always said. Be patient with the companies. With that said, if somebody listening, you know, if somebody listening works at Disney and want to give a brother a discount,
Starting point is 00:20:16 you know, a free room or some shit, you know what I'm saying? Go ahead and hook a brother up. Hold on. Let me get one before. You've been so many times, Shaquise. Let me get that discount first. All right, all right. Go ahead and give Miles one, and then give him a two-bedroom suite,
Starting point is 00:20:32 and I can have a second bedroom. And then we'll go, yeah. Because look, poor old me. I've never been to Disney World, you know? Have I even lived? And neither has super producer Hannah Hosen. You haven't lived yet. You know, we're out here just,
Starting point is 00:20:45 just trying to eke in a meager existence, not going to Disney world. Anyway. Um, the last thing that's trending is Roman Abramovich. Um, he is this Russian oligarch and he owns the, uh,
Starting point is 00:20:57 English football club known as Chelsea FC out in London. Uh, the blues, uh, last year's champions league winners. And he's currently become like this figure in the ukrainian peace talks um and a lot of people like what's what's his role exactly well there's this report now that they're saying that roman abramovich along with other ukrainian peace negotiators are suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning
Starting point is 00:21:22 after a meeting in kiev and they suspect that maybe russian hardliners are trying to meddle and sabotage these peace talks um that's very alarming but they it seems like they said that that is they suffered them and they're now fine so i think i mean yeah i guess on one hand you'd be like i'm poisoned but i mean is it also possible people just shitting themselves for like 24 i don't know i don't know what the symptoms are but apparently i mean yeah it's suspected poison it could have been you know not enough not enough doses you know like they just dropped a couple of drops in and it was just the diarrhea poison there was one drop away from kill you poison or something. Poison is a wild way.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Oh, shit. You know what they said? People went blind, they said. Oh, damn. That's the kind of, yeah. Like, temporarily? Okay, never mind. Yeah, like, yeah, they said people became totally blind the next day.
Starting point is 00:22:22 That was according to, like, damn the president's olinsky's office yo poison is it poison scary man because you never know you never know we ain't got to worry about poison no more like they did back in the day you know back in the game of throne days when shit you know but getting caught everybody's gotten too lazy everybody wants quick shit now everybody wants a quick assassination. Yes, I'm advocating for poison, everybody. I'm advocating to bring back poison. What happened to us?
Starting point is 00:22:50 Bring back poisoning. What happened to us? What happened to us? Everybody got guns. Everybody's scared to kill people the right way, through poison. Like the way of our great classical figures. Exactly. So, yeah, it's really uh it's wild to see like his this guy
Starting point is 00:23:07 abramovich went from like oligarch who's getting sanctioned to then like selinsky saying like hey actually this dude's trying to help and then suspecting like oh okay well is abramovich using his like sway with the other oligarchs in russia to try and have something happen i don't know i'm we're so far removed from that process i have no clue but um yeah you know just more added texture to already wild past a couple days all right well that's it for what's trending um jakees thanks so much man for helping me out uh maybe maybe stop by come stop by tomorrow keep this thing going maybe i will okay there's a couple things i can talk about yeah yeah i think so okay cool um until
Starting point is 00:23:45 next time y'all make sure uh you know take care of yourselves take care of each other obviously you know get that vaccine if you haven't already you know there's the there's another wave coming it already looks like uh with the the new omicron uh coming back to america just when we thought we had another just when we think we're safe it's almost like we always take our foot off the gas right when we need to keep going. But yeah, protect yourselves, each other. Obviously, don't do nothing about white supremacy or any kind of hate, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia. If you see some shit, don't fucking let people think you're one of these people who's going to let that shit cook in front of them. Okay, please.
Starting point is 00:24:21 That's how we help each other out by not just being silent. Okay, until next time, we'll see you tomorrow. Peace and blessings. All right, please. That's how we help each other out by not just being silent. OK, till next time. We'll see you tomorrow. Peace and blessings. All right. Bye.
