Starting point is 00:01:31 I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry, Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of trend talk uh not like talking
Starting point is 00:02:07 trends uh but like tiktok a play on tiktok that is courtesy of super producer anna hosnier before giving us that said wait what is this one called um so you know big fan big fan of the show i am jack that over there well that is miles yep yep yep and here are some of the show. I am Jack. That over there, well, that is Miles. Yep. Yep. Yep. And here are some of the things that are trending as we close out this Friday, this week of July.
Starting point is 00:02:36 July 15th. Millennials' fault is trending because it's always trending. That is just, that's got to be on the whiteboard in editorial offices, every corporate media outlet. It's got to be the number one. It's in their voice book.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Yeah, seriously. So this article is titled, Millennials are to blame for sky Sky-High Inflation, Strategist Says. And they spend a couple paragraphs talking about the things that cause inflation, none of which are just corporations deciding to have record profit. And then they get to this part. But one investor is arguing there's another major factor to blame, millennials. this part but one investor is arguing there's another major factor to blame millennials see what everyone is not including in the conversation is what really causes inflation which is too many people with too much money chasing too few goods bill smeed chief investment officer at smeed
Starting point is 00:03:41 capital management told cnbc's Squawk Box Europe on Thursday. So ultimately, they figure out that the real issue is that there's too many millennials. In the US, there are an estimated 92 million millennials in the 27 to 42-year-old age bracket. Thank you so much, by the way, Bill Smead, for including me in the millennial age bracket. Love you for that. The last time we saw what we call Wolverine inflation, which is inflation that is hard for policymakers to stop, was when 75 million baby boomers had replaced 44 million silent generation people in the 70s. But that was followed, of course, by baby boomers then just taking all the money for themselves and becoming very rich and successful. That's not going to happen because
Starting point is 00:04:28 nobody's going to let the millennials have any money because that is just their fault. It's their fault. We got to blame them. We can't help them. Yeah. You know who has all your money? That generation of people that as a
Starting point is 00:04:43 the brokest generation ever. jet like the brokest generation and it didn't ever yeah the brokest generation ever is the reason that we don't have as much money as we used to i guess maybe what they're like running the like welfare playbook on millennials to be like and they need help and that's why the economy's fucked because they don't have their shit together uh they don't have their shit together enough to not have been born here but the premise is that millennials have too much money i think right wasn't that his whole thing was that like too many people with too much money yeah trying to go after too few good um which doesn't i don't know yeah if like i mean in the housing market it's like three mega corporations
Starting point is 00:05:23 buying all the houses and no housing supply? Yes, that is exactly what is happening. Whatever. I don't know. Whatever. Home ownership is no longer going to be a thing fairly soon. Thanks to... Which is funny.
Starting point is 00:05:37 The way those companies talk to it's like, you know, most of our millennial and Gen Z clients, they actually don't want to own a house. Yeah, exactly. They want to be in a forever loop of debt where they don't own anything at the end of the day and we get them to pay our mortgage it's pretty cool so anyways the system's broken not gonna work very long uh by the way uh j michael spencer had a great tweet um so that somebody tweeted news 89 how to tell if the bear market is bottoming according to the pros. He was like, is this headline business or gay?
Starting point is 00:06:08 Business or gay? We're fucked. Then my computer crashed, so I don't even know what the second trending thing is. It's Joe Manchin speaking of incredibly fucked. He's relegated future generations to a hell world. Basically told the Democrats he's not going to back any spending bill legislation that either increases spending on climate change and or increases taxes on the corporations or the wealthy.
Starting point is 00:06:42 At least he's consistent. So basically he's saying you know i look joe byron i know you've promised all these people build back better and look we didn't mean it but at the very least now of all the things you promised maybe we'll get prescription drug costs down a little bit and that's build back better so yeah pretty pretty uh fucked we look it's pretty bad uh i mean but on top of it it's not like joe biden's doing much to stop the proliferation of fossil fuels either like signing over like tons of like land to fossil fuel producers recently so you know but it's easy to
Starting point is 00:07:19 just put it on joe mansion also yeah yeah because there's nothing you can do. All you can do is just let Joe Manchin do whatever he wants and then be like, but I'm also named Joe. Because as the president, you actually work for the senator of West Virginia. Joe Manchin. You have nothing to do.
Starting point is 00:07:39 No room to maneuver there. The New York Times certainly doesn't think so. Analysis. Inflation, party infighting, and war upend Biden's climate agenda. President Biden promised to wean the U.S. from fossil fuels to lessen emissions that could trigger catastrophic global warming,
Starting point is 00:07:56 yet his plans are now thoroughly frustrated with rising prices, party infighting, and the aftershocks of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. So, I mean, the New York Times, the Biden administration will continue to frame it as like, it was out of our hands, folks. There's nothing we can do.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Ah, darn it. I mean, I know this is potentially world ending. We wanted to do something. But, ah. What do you want me to do? Tax these wealthy companies? I can't because the other Joe, Joe Manchin 3, he says
Starting point is 00:08:27 we can't. So, sorry. And you know the old adage, Joe's before hoes. That is what they said. Speaking of Joe's, Joe Biden is in the Middle East and he's having a hell of a run. He's
Starting point is 00:08:42 proudly proclaimed he's a Zionistist uh yeah fist bumped mbs um but then he claims he raised the question uh after they fist bumped about the fact that he had uh he murdered so he's you know he's on it he's on i'm gonna treat him like the pariah they are what up mbs my guy pound it pound it out like what um and then i mean he did show his uh hatred of the english when he was like you know the irish are kind of like the palestinians and you're like just stop right there joe just stop right there just stop right there thank you just go back to whatever whatever people thought that this was a win for you to go over there and fist bump someone on the campaign trail you're like gotta treat them like the pariah they are
Starting point is 00:09:37 nailed unless uh unless i default to my old 70s habits of being like saudi arabia oil help all right let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church.
Starting point is 00:10:03 And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again.
Starting point is 00:10:45 revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist
Starting point is 00:11:25 Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry,
Starting point is 00:12:05 Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire?
Starting point is 00:12:31 Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:12:50 you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from? Like what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Hi, I'm Eva Longoria. Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon. Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Season two. Season two. Are we recording? Are we good? Oh, we push record, right? Okay. And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita, followed by the mojito from Cuba,
Starting point is 00:13:24 and the piƱa colada from Puerto Rico. So all of these, we think, Latin culture. There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey that dates back to the 9th century B.C. B.C.? I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to Hungry for History as part of the My Cultura podcast network,
Starting point is 00:13:43 available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And Ricky Martin is trending. Yeah, pretty disgusting. Ricky Martin is trending. Yeah, pretty disgusting. I mean, so a couple weeks ago, there were these headlines about Ricky Martin getting sued by his former manager
Starting point is 00:14:12 and saying that they knew about a, quote, career-ending allegation. Then two weeks ago, there was a story that Ricky Martin was facing restraining order in Puerto Rico. And there was a lotining order in Puerto Rico. And like people were like, there was a lot of speculation at what happened, like who requested the restraining order. And now there's a story.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Now it's been published in a few places. And a lot of it is like, I've seen things on like Marca from Spain, but they're saying that again these are allegations that he was in a like incestuous relationship like with his nephew who was
Starting point is 00:14:53 21 years old and is now looking at like a legal trial and all kinds of shit because of this it's yeah it's pretty like disturbing just to read it because at first you're like oh what is like i think a lot of people who are on twitter like oh ricky martin is trending and then you look at like what these are like articles are linking to and it's very fucking disturbing so
Starting point is 00:15:15 yeah i don't know i mean i think ricky martin like obviously his camp they're saying these are completely false allegations uh but yeah it's very very uh grim very dark yeah um all right uh joffrey is trending because uh it is three years ago and you just entered a time loop and uh welcome to 2019 donald trump is still president. Oh, God. Fine. I mean, what's the difference right now? Look, people are right now, the reason he's trending, Joffrey, is because, you know, it's like one of those Twitter questions where people said, whose death gave you the most satisfaction from Game of Thrones?
Starting point is 00:15:58 Ramsay Bolton, Walder Frey, Joffrey Baratheon, or Tywin Lannister? And a lot of people were saying Joffrey baratheon or tywin lannister and a lot of people were saying joffrey i think i i'm trying to think i mean walder fray i hated the death necessarily didn't give me the same level of satisfaction um that maybe seeing joffrey like be poisoned did and to see like his like green face yeah yeah that was an was an ugly way to go. How did Walter Frey die? Keith, uh, Aria. Remember, like, used the masks and just, like,
Starting point is 00:16:31 pulled up on him and I think slit his throat. Slit his throat. That was a good one, at least. It was, like, violent and, uh... Yeah, and he put it together, like, you know, like, in a way where it's like, yeah, it was me. And Ramsey got, you know, he got got by the wolves.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Yeah. I feel like his jaw got ripped off or something. There was something like particularly violent about his death that was, uh, yeah. I was happy to see him go, because I had just named my son Ramsey, and it was annoying for people to be like, you named him after this?
Starting point is 00:17:02 The psychopath on the most popular show? show. I did. Motherfucker. Yeah. We're going to sharpen his teeth into fangs. So every one of his teeth is a fang. And also, please use his full name, Ramsey Jeffrey Dahmer O'Brien. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Yeah, Joffrey is purely going off of how much people wanted him to die. Watching somebody just be poisoned is kind of not the most satisfying way to watch someone die. I'll show you my full list of the most satisfying ways to watch someone die that I have here
Starting point is 00:17:42 next to the computer one of these days. And then Tywin Lannister was just shot with a crossbow while taking a shit yeah i mean fine but it wasn't necessary like i think it was the like for it to be satisfying you need an equation of like visible suffering on the face of the evil person for there to be satisfaction derived from it. It has to feel horrible. But anyway, that was nine years ago. It feels like the most satisfying death would have been the Sand Viper
Starting point is 00:18:14 or whatever his name was who got his head spoiled. Smushed? Wait, but I thought we liked Pedro Pascal. I'm saying though, they saved the most satisfying acts of violence for the people we like and we're rooting for. When the show was at its best
Starting point is 00:18:29 they were like this is how life goes. People you thought were going to come up and win actually just suffered the most brutal on screen death ever. I'm not saying I was like, alright, fine, I was rooting for it. I was rooting for them
Starting point is 00:18:47 the whole time, the bad guys. Damn it. Ken is trending. This is something we're just tracking because the Barbie movie, let's say it's got our attention at the Daily Zeitgeist. It's very
Starting point is 00:19:03 mysterious. Greta Gerwig script. She's an indie director. People are like, the script is great, but we don't really have much else. We have the shots from the set where they look amazing. But Ryan Gosling just let slip a few details. Ken's life is even harder than the gray man life so this was like on the gray man publicity tour ken's got no money he's got no job got no car he's going
Starting point is 00:19:34 through some stuff so maybe maybe this does like follow ken and barbie uh as like in a more realistic outside world like a Brady Bunch movie I feel like that's the way you have fun with it rather than like validating some like fever dream a toy would have of what their reality is you want to see like Ken be like hey what's up homies
Starting point is 00:20:00 and these people are like yo man come up off your rollerblades and he's like huh? I don't have a job please and my car is plastic this is a car jack well the name's not jack well you're right it is a car but the name's not jack it's greg um that's one of my favorite jokes of all time he's from the brady bunch movie clowns never laughed before and beanstalks never grew i just remember that song movie and my favorite line is put on your sunday's best kids we're going to sears and i never heard that because i didn't grow up going to church like or i mean when i did it was because my grandparents were dragging me. But Sunday's best, I was like, what the fuck is that?
Starting point is 00:20:48 I'm like us, like me wearing sweatpants on Sunday. But I get it. People had their Sunday's best to go to see. Those were the days. And I'm a millennial. And I still remember wearing my Sunday's best. The pants were itchy. Miles. Yeah. were itchy. Miles.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Yeah. Pleasure. Pleasure talking to you. Where can people find you, follow you, all that good stuff? I mean, but is this the Daily Show? I don't know, man. I've got a lot of tables. Just tell the people where they can find you.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Yeah, look, man. Find me at Jack underscore O'Brien on Twitter, man. All right. Perfect. You can find me at Miles of Grey on Twitter and Instagram. Sweet. That's going to do it. find me at miles of gray um on twitter and instagram that's gonna do it uh until next week when we'll be back with the whole last episode till then be kind to each other be kind to
Starting point is 00:21:33 yourselves get the vaccine get the booster don't do nothing about white supremacy we'll talk to y'all bye bye Bye-bye. two for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in people who do, like negotiation expert Maury Tahiripour.
