Starting point is 00:02:01 Hello, everybody, and welcome to this edition by Trendy, by Rihanna. Thank you so much in this trending episode. And I just came up with that right now because we will talk about Fenty Beauty. First, how do I do this, y'all? It's been a minute since I've hosted the... Oh, hi, I'm Miles, and I'm here with super producer Becca. Hello, Becca. What's new?
Starting point is 00:02:24 I'm back. You're back. back you're back so let's just let's just get into it what's trending and first off we see telphar is trend telphysis baby okay so well i heard what they're they're like circle bag is now more money that's the deal i saw tweets alluding to this but i don't know what what happened. So essentially, New York Fashion Week, Telfar releases the circle bag, which it's beautiful. I want one, but I don't want one at the price point, which it is priced for $600. A lot of people on the internet are upset because they're like $600 for pleather. What the fuck? Right.
Starting point is 00:03:04 But I mean, they are at the end of the day a black luxury brand they were featured in new york fashion week i think they deserve to price their products of how they seek fit they're like ethically sourced and all sorts of things like they haven't changed the price of the shopping bags which is what a lot of the discourse is kind of like back and forth where people are mad that this bag is so expensive in comparison to their shopping bags what's the shopping bag so the shopping bag is their traditional telphar bag so they have three sizes small medium large right right they come in variety colors but the whole thing is that they're you know release date like dropped so you can't just like buy them
Starting point is 00:03:42 at any time like they'll when they're ready to make that color again they'll drop it and you have to just order ready right but the beauty is that like they're not going up in price and that's kind of been like the like wah i don't know why the awe and wonder of telphar because they're like accessible to their community while also like being high luxury and like being featured by lots of you know like beyonce has a telfeezy like many like famous people have telfars and the bags are pretty reasonably priced for like what they are um and they're all vegan uh for those who you know are conscious yeah but that also like affects the price point and how people you know feel about it because they're like well i'm not even paying for a little leather why is it six hundred dollars right so you know
Starting point is 00:04:30 but i'm happy for them i want one but look you know and uh shout out to uh mr tel far tel far clemens right that's his name yeah it's like the prices go up and i'm sure they're because like i know louis vuitton they just they just raise their prices again like yeah it's like been twice in a year i think chanel just did too and it's like yeah or what and i know that because i'm always buying louis vuitton luggage uh you know i live at the store basically you know um and by that i mean i look in the window and go i ain't spending my money on that shit um but i get it uh and i get the luxury feel and i also you know it's funny because i like the colors of the telphar bags too when i see them because i remember because whenever i see people on twitter start talking about i'm like well what's the color
Starting point is 00:05:13 this with everybody so i'm like oh it's a nice like seafoam green type okay i see i see what you're doing but yeah it is like this sort of i'm sure that he's caught in between the place where he's, you know, the brand is blowing up. Yeah, elevating. And you're starting, you know, maybe your business model early on is like accessibility, ubiquity, and then start changing it up a little bit. Yeah, who knows what Telfar will do. But yeah, Telfar fans, let us know. You know, are you outraged? Call in right now
Starting point is 00:05:45 555 who gives a fuck okay uh moving on the next uh trending topic is ivanka ivanka as in ivanka trump uh because a new york judge has ruled that not only does big daddy donald but his little babies don jr and uh ivanka they are going to have to sit for a deposition in the civil investigation into the trump org because the new york ag letitia james is like there is some foolery in this dancery and by dancery i mean this accounting that they are doing for their company the finances look all kinds of inconsistent uh so yes you may have to sit for a deposition and on top of that i know other people are talking about ivanka because you know the january 6th committee was
Starting point is 00:06:29 also like hey girl do you want to come by and talk real quick yeah where you at uh and she yeah they she got the wia question mark text and she left them on red uh and now people like uh subpoena is that what's gonna happen next uh you know and a lot of people say this week there's been a huge blow from his like trump's accounting firm being like hey we can no longer vouch for any of the shit we said was real in some of our accounting reporting of this company um so i don't know if like you know every time some of this happens you're like oh this is real bad for him but every time and i lose faith that is like yeah that was i'm gonna ask you miles is like what do you think is next because i just like i see
Starting point is 00:07:10 another trump headline and you're like what is the accountability like are we gonna get anything out of this i don't know as someone who's grown up in america and looked at the complexion of people that typically uh incur the wrath of the legal system i have a feeling that this may follow the same pattern where it'll be a light wrist slapping uh and then he will proceed to fully take this place into whatever the next dimension is uh but i don't know i just don't know uh as i said during the muller report i said we just don't know what's in there come to find out this guy completely shit the bed but anyway um what's new i know the next trending thing stranger stranger tings stranger things volume one okay what is it volume one may 27 volume two july 1st so they're doing this next season in two installments yes so this is the final season
Starting point is 00:08:03 i'm pretty sure and then they gotta be they're gonna look 28 by the end of this yeah it's so true yeah so i'm pretty sure this is the final season and they just released the information that they are teasing a volume one for may and then volume two for july i'm excited i'm a big stranger things fan i want to see how this wraps up we've been on this journey for a long time. Yeah. Let us know. Where do we go with this? What is 11 or 9 or 7 or whatever homegirl's name is? What's the order?
Starting point is 00:08:34 Does she have a homegirl, too, that we're starting to see? Because they were teasing the concept of a homegirl who also escaped the lab. But I really like the mall from last season. That really, as somebody who grew up, like, deep grew up deep nostalgia for 80s and 90s mall culture, I really loved the visuals of that season. Yes. And I mean, I love the mall period. I do love a mall. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:56 There's one thing about a suburban heart. I love the mall. Oh, you're from Texas, too. I bet you have big ass malls. Big ass malls. All there is to do in Texas is go to the mall. What was the mall? What was your mall?
Starting point is 00:09:08 We had like four in Houston alone. You have Willowbrook. You have Memorial. You have Katy. You have the Outlets, Supreme Outlets in Cypress now. You have the Galleria, which is the luxury mall. It's always called the Galleria. I think that's it.
Starting point is 00:09:23 I think those are all our malls but i frequent willowbrook okay and like is it like everything where you're in eighth grade your parents drop you off with your friends and you buy a wetzel's pretzel and you do like 900 laps and lightly looking stores you go into claire's you're like oh my god am i gonna get a tattoo or not tattoo piercing um and then you're hoping that your friend just steals all the necklaces. You go to Hot Topic and you're like, oh, my God. Right. You're like another Jack Skellington tea girl you're tripping right now.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Seriously. You are OOC out of control. Another word. The sickest kids and panic at the disco shirt. Oh, yeah. Okay. Well, enough. Oh, man. I miss them all.
Starting point is 00:10:04 We will come back right after this break to talk about other things that are trending. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts.
Starting point is 00:11:24 When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Sanner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100 percent of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese.
Starting point is 00:12:31 I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically Black. I love her.
Starting point is 00:12:52 What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:14 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson.
Starting point is 00:13:50 I always felt like Lynette was kind of this right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. 2022 VF Hollywoodllywood issue is trending now i know this somebody who used to work for condé Nast uh this was a big event and when they had the shoots in LA i remember that's when i had to do a lot of work to do the video component of capturing this issue because it's always an iconic moment for vanity fair they do the do the Hollywood issue. When I was there, Lupita Nyong'o was showing us how to fold a fitted sheet as part of her talent. And then I think Helen Mirren was using a bullwhip. Someone used a bullwhip the year I was doing it.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Anyway, this year. Are they supposed to showcase a talent every time they... It was part of the bit of that year, the theme of it. And yeah, it was... Because Condé like the the fucking overlord of like celebrity online videos yeah uh it was always like let's fuck it let's get the lupita knows how to fill fold a fitted sheet boom let's go let's see it um this year uh becca you're saying interesting choices you know what are you what are you thinking of the the people i just feel like some of these folks are old news like i don't understand
Starting point is 00:15:28 why they're being featured as like the it of the year um for instance the the list is it's like eight people nicole kidman andrew garfield idris elba kristen stewart simulee lew i pronounced that wrong simulee uh benedict cumberbatch um mj rodriguez and penelope cruz um i don't know what penelope has done lately uh confused yeah no i feel like um nicole kidman she's been in everything lately and i don't understand i'm tired of her tired sick of her um andrew garfield i do have a soft spot for him but like he is another white man in hollywood like i don't i yeah boom was good but he is just another white man in hollywood um i get simu because of all this open marvel and he's like breaking barriers but he had like a lot of controversy i know for like things you've said
Starting point is 00:16:25 online before like similar to aquafina so you know oh really yeah um i know that uh yo's is racist has talked about it a few times so um yeah podcast obviously i'm i stand mj i feel like she deserves and she always does i think kristen stewart deserves to like she's really kind of made like a new era for herself yeah and especially being queer and having a renaissance and i mean her work in spencer was incredible so also if so i feel like it's a little tired yeah get rid of it i mean honestly mj and kristen i i don't have i can i can put wrap my head around even uh simu like i get sort of the moment but yeah what i mean everyone else i'm like what fine you know yeah fine like i guess and at the end of the day like the only reason i'm like i have any like shred of like energy that feels uh like angry at it is because i think it means something to be on this list which it
Starting point is 00:17:25 doesn't yeah that's the only reason i brought it up but also the photo shoot is crazy like you were saying miles they have themes or whatever it feels very like uh alice in wonderland like but like the coloring is like very alice in wonderland but like the styling is like very confusing like nicole kidman's in this like two piece and it's like is it supposed to be like she's still young and got it kind of vibe like right like i have no idea christmas store is like laying on this board behind like the cityscape of what looks like new york city it just was in a pool and a corvette on like the side of a road right like oh yeah i'm benedict camberbatch i'm like get rid of him
Starting point is 00:18:05 i'm so sick of him i'm so i can't even say penguins like i don't like what because of fucking it says star turns in very different cinematic universes have let the sublime british actors study hollywood up close excuse me huh what like what no thanks no thanks yeah because i know like annie leibovitz would do like be the photographer this time they have uh i'm uh maurizio catalan and pierre paulo ferrari and you know they have a very maximalist uh visual style very david la chapelle but you know it's uh who's who's keeping score um that skyline though with the Kristen Stewart thing where it's like on a diving board it looks like an older picture
Starting point is 00:18:50 of the city it's like odd it feels like an 80s stock photo of LA but sure Vanity Fair keep doing your thing please invite us to an Oscar party would love to be there rather than just working the sidelines of it Keep doing your thing. Please invite us to an Oscar party.
Starting point is 00:19:06 We'd love to be there. Rather than just working the sidelines of it and having to delete videos of Vin Diesel being so drunk that his manager's like, you have to delete those. Because he used to work at Coney Ness, right? Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. What a time.
Starting point is 00:19:21 What a time that was. Moving on. Fenty. Rihanna. Where's the rihanna navy at okay because now fenty is all up in ulta ulta beauty i think this is an exciting move for um like makeup shoppers for women of color specifically like i growing up in texas like there was such a difference between ulta and sephora and to me ulta's always felt like more accessible like the pricing point but also i will say like the quality of makeup in there sucks and i hate that because i feel like ulta's in more places that are for
Starting point is 00:19:56 like lower income or like lower middle like ulta has partnership with target like right ulta sells primarily like black hair care and like like diversity of black hair care not just like the stuff that you see in sally's and you can actually find products for like curly textures so i've always loved that about you want to support they're like a 4c curl exactly is that an exercise nothing they're like they're like oh do you want um olaplex like that's all you have is olaplex and i'm like i'm not spending 80 on this bullshit shampoo okay i spend enough on products i'm not willing to not spend but like i just don't believe in the olaplex vision like i'm just like there are
Starting point is 00:20:35 other things out there for curly hair i don't like this one size fit all of olaplex um but yeah i just always felt like sephora is not as accessible especially price point a lot of the makeup brands in there like you have dior you have right um and then like the perfumes are all like designer perfumes and the skincare is like pretty pricey so old does always come at a more reasonable they're like we get we get it you're like not everybody needs to buy a fucking 300 tiny bottle of scented liquids okay wait was before it was fenty just online fendi's at sephora they're not at oh that's right okay that was because that was their first move into brick and mortar right with sephora was sephora
Starting point is 00:21:16 which makes sense because sephora is like the reigning you know head of like makeup and beauty gurus but i do feel like Ulta is for the people. For the everyday woman. And I do think they deserve to have access to the color waves that Rihanna has. The whole thing was like, I have shades
Starting point is 00:21:37 for every woman. Ulta is usually where I feel like more black and brown women across the country are able to go. Well, you love to see it. Alta. Love to see it. Fenty up in there.
Starting point is 00:21:49 And yes, she has shades for everyone on and off the makeup counter. Okay. And then finally, Carnival Cruise is trending because there were reports of a passenger who jumped off the side of the cruise ship. I believe like off the coast of Louisiana somewhere. And now, like, there's a very dark history of unsolved deaths on cruise ships because there's like not really many. There's who's going to enforce it. And you're on international waters.
Starting point is 00:22:20 It gets murky. They do their own. You know, if you have an internal investigation of a cruise ship, they're going to be like, yeah, man, I think this a lot of spouses are killing each other on our boats. But in this instance, they say, quote, passengers report seeing an individual jump from an upper deck and they saw a woman place on a life vest before intentionally jumping. But the thing is, they could not find this person that jumped. Carnival Valor, quote, supported the search for a guest who jumped overboard from her balcony on wednesday afternoon while the ship was at sea the ship's command immediately began search and rescue procedures
Starting point is 00:22:52 returned to the area near where the incident occurred and notified the u.s coast guard um so yeah a bit of a grim cruise ship story yeah really scary i'm still so confused how the um cruise industry is thriving at this point because i don't see any reason to get on a cruise it's people like me okay do you have a cruise cruise no i haven't been on a cruise in maybe seven years but the idea of a cruise is what appeals to me. I completely understand. It's a horror. It takes a horrific toll on the environment. It's a complete hellscape for a lot of the people that work on cruise ships.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Okay. Super producer Brian just dropped in the chat. He said, apparently she was in cuffs for something else prior to jumping. So why couldn't they recover? See, handcuffed woman who jumped overboard was involved in hot tub incident. Passengers described hearing her smash against side of ship and its lifeboats before hitting water. Oh, no. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Also, how can she be unidentified if she was cuffed? You'd have to know who cuffed, right? Like, I would think that if she's cuffed, you have her identity. I think they know. that if she's come do you have her identity i think they know it's probably just they're just gonna be like let's not make it completely hot at the moment okay um but yeah i think when it comes to cruise ships it's it's like the convenience because obviously like covid you're like okay it's over now like yeah how the how can anyone be on the giant petri dish that's floating in the sea uh just waiting for you to get sick but i think it's like the
Starting point is 00:24:25 convenience of what it offers people it's like amen it's an all-inclusive vacation do it all right there you can you can walk home drunk from the upper deck bar and there you go you can't get a dui on your way back but yeah for me i think it's really anything all-inclusive i just love that shit i mean that's why my parents love Disney World. I get it. Is it all-inclusive? What do you mean? I mean, you can have it be all-inclusive.
Starting point is 00:24:50 The way my parents do it, they hire a travel agent. You can do it all-inclusive? Yeah, you hire a travel agent. I don't know all the details because I don't book it. But basically, my mom, she loves to hand a keyboard. Book, book, book, book, book. But basically, pre-COVIDvid i know things have changed since you could do a meal plan and so basically like you pay for everything up front like through the travel
Starting point is 00:25:12 agent you're like paying month to month for the trip so by the time you get to disney you don't have to pay anything like you've already paid for your accommodations for your meal plan the meal plans usually come like the one we would do is lunch at a quick service. So like at one of the places in the park, dinner at like a sit down restaurant and then like two snacks throughout the day. So you could use it to like get breakfast in the hotel or like get a snack at the park or two snacks at the park.
Starting point is 00:25:37 That's dangerous. Yeah. And so like, and basically, and it comes with like a certain amount of fast passes and like, you know, you get like this, the bands,
Starting point is 00:25:47 the magic bands and you get in the park and you do the park hopper. So you can just like hop to any park. And so basically the only thing you're paying out of pocket is like your own souvenirs or like extra like at the time you want, but like it is super like you are, and this is for people staying on property and like, that's why it's a little like universe. Right. So it's like you're staying on property. You go with your little magic band
Starting point is 00:26:06 tap into the bus and then you get on the bus and it takes you to the different parks um yeah and there's like a one that's like connected to both uh hollywood studios and epcot like there's like a bridge or like a little like boat so from your hotel you just like do it all and it takes you to epcot and see i still haven't seen i was gonna go i've never been to disney world in my life because my parents just never like we're not getting on the fucking it's a lot because they're like we have disneyland go with your friends an hour south to orange county and do that shit and we were there like i remember anna and i we were both like man we're gonna go to fucking disney world when we were in orlando but just the timing didn't work
Starting point is 00:26:43 out it's a lot to do for the day like i definitely think if you do it you gotta do it that way yeah and i look i'm gonna be i'm gonna be the first to admit i already put in my deposit for one of the tract houses in the new disney development uh in the coachella valley because i want roy or walt disney or whatever that man's name i want him to haunt me throughout all my days. Okay? All right. Well, that's it for what's trending today. Becca, thanks for hopping on with me. We will be back tomorrow with a fucking whole brand spanking new episode.
Starting point is 00:27:15 So tune in for that one. And you know, until next time, wear that mask. Man, get your vaccination if you haven't. Shit, I mean, at this point, come on now. What else? Oh, you know, fucking don't do
Starting point is 00:27:25 nothing about white supremacy or misogyny or transphobia if you see some fucking hateful shit let people know that you don't fuck with that because more people you know you have to make it more clear to people yes if you're in new york stay safe like be vigilant on the subway take care of your friends everywhere friends home that's everywhere there's a lot going on in new york right now so, please stay safe. Yeah. Everybody stay safe. Keep your head on a swivel.
Starting point is 00:27:48 And until next time, we'll hit you with that dribble. Okay. Talk soon. Bye. Bye. Bye. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult.
