Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of trenzel washington my name is jack you are of course miles gray back at it again uh and we are back at it again baby
Starting point is 00:02:13 thrilled to be back all right so uh right back at it oh that was from fighter of the night man oh yeah yeah fighter of the night man um and uh i'm not gonna pretend like i wasn't furiously googling refreshing to you know wait until this news happened to to come back but it appears that benifer jen jennifer lopez and ben affleck yeah It's been a minute, yeah. They're engaged again, baby. Love to see it. I'm so glad now. I can forget about everything else. That ring, though.
Starting point is 00:02:55 It's supposedly more expensive than the last one with a $6-10 million price point. Get the fuck out of here. $6-10 million. Six to ten million dollars. That's, you know, I mean, that's, they deserve it. I want to see them happy. Yeah, I mean, I can't, you know, those crazy kids, you know, you're up, you're down, you're up, you're down.
Starting point is 00:03:19 They're back up again. You're never going to keep them down. So, especially not with a damn 10 million dollar ring on wow i mean i feel like if you try to go swimming with that you would be kept down to the bottom of whatever body of water you're swimming in because that seems like it's too big karma in that ring i i have a feeling there's no way you could have a six or six to ten million dollar ring and that thing is not just downloaded with all the worst hits of karma in those stones a minor tremor earthquake and the earth just like swallows you right exactly
Starting point is 00:03:55 just like that belongs in the so weird every step i take the floor cracks a little bit underneath my feet this is so weird i don't know this place is kind of shoddily built anyways congratulations to the happy couple benifer may their names never be uh yeah we can't even come up with a way to send them off yeah without it being a total joke let's talk about real news um uh texas woman was charged under the new well that's the thing we don't know kind of yeah so over the weekend this woman in texas we found out that this woman a woman was arrested for and charged with murder under very murky circumstances this happened when uh this was in connection with quote a self-induced abortion and the facts around this no one
Starting point is 00:04:44 really knows whether or not you know she was assisting someone if it was she herself involved in this but she was held on five hundred thousand dollar bail she was bailed out um and then on monday the district attorney of star county um was basically saying like oh yes uh this we're dismissing this case and you're like wait hold on what and this is what the da did because also acknowledge that this is a terrible situation for this young woman said quote although with this dismissal uh miss herrera will not face prosecution for this incident it is clear to me that the event the events leading up to this indictment have taken a toll on miss herrera and her family to ignore this fact would be short-sighted the issues surrounding this matter are clearly contentious however based on texas law and the facts presented
Starting point is 00:05:28 it is not a criminal matter but you arrested her and chart like this is all it's all very fucked up when i heard somebody was arrested in texas for something to do with an abortion my first thought was like well this is probably a woman of color person of color um and sure enough yes um but yeah the frontera fund i believe put up the money um this half million dollar bail because they were putting together a lot of the funds like and also like a fund to help like after the fact um and yeah i mean the the outrage that it was met with was pretty intense because this again we're looking we're looking at the same pattern. This isn't the first time people have arrested a woman in connection with what they thought was an abortion. You know, it's happened to women in like Indiana before where a woman had attempted to take her life and they tried to charge her with like attempted murder because she was pregnant.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Or like a woman buying oral contraception and then being, again, being accused of trying to have some kind of illegal whatever the fuck. So this isn't... I have a feeling this is only going to ramp up. And this is against the backdrop where the Supreme Court is potentially on the
Starting point is 00:06:38 verge of completely overturning Roe. So yeah, this is again, obviously shout out to all of the advocates and activists and allies especially in south texas like the frontera fund but i have a feeling this is we're just starting to see the beginning of of shit like this let's talk about herschel walker yeah oh boy i mean we've we i've played some of his greatest hits recently when he was like and the critical race theory uh talking about it was just like
Starting point is 00:07:06 this man had has real real trouble articulating a lot of his policy points and he ducked out on the gop debates uh for you know the senate race and right now he's if you know like a hypothetical race he's currently leading rafael warnock uh in the polls which again a poll is a poll but damn just hearing this guy talk and what he stands for and then seeing that he juxtaposed with rafael warnock you're like well that's interesting he's trump's number one right like trump trump loves him oh yeah well yeah exactly because trump was like this is my person because i'm thinking i'll split the vote by making voters of color have to choose. I mean, they're both black guys, you know, like that kind of cynical logic.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Because Herschel Walker, again, famously, they're like, this dude doesn't even live here, but is running much like Dr. Oz, who's just like hanging out at his in-laws house in Pennsylvania to claim he's a resident. Dr. Oz, who's just hanging out at his in-laws' house in Pennsylvania to claim he's a resident. But I think the other thing is, too, whenever he does speak, I think it sort of negatively affects him because people are like, oh, yeah, let's just maybe just we know you from your name alone. And let's just use that. Which is one of the great names in the history of public figures. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I don't think I remember even as a kid, I just remembered his name because it sounded like such a classical athlete name. And that's Herschel Walker. And you start hearing his politics and his personal life and you're like, get him out of here. All right. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back and talk about the NBA playoff. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back and talk about the NBA playoff.
Starting point is 00:08:53 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration.
Starting point is 00:09:41 It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions, like how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? your career, you have a lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan
Starting point is 00:10:22 Sanner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep.
Starting point is 00:10:41 in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history.
Starting point is 00:11:06 People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros,
Starting point is 00:11:16 Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only
Starting point is 00:11:36 going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. I've been thinking about you.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do one session 24 hours bpm 110 120 she's terrified should we wake her up absolutely not what was that you didn't figure it out i think i need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything?
Starting point is 00:12:30 You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio dream sequence is a new horror thriller from blumhouse television iheart radio and realm
Starting point is 00:12:45 listen to dream sequence on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and we're back and we're we're at the end of the at the end of the regular season. We definitely are at the end of the regular season. Of the National Basketball Association. We have a podcast about this very subject. We do. Miles and Jack got mad boosted. An NBA podcast. Yes, absolutely. Tune in for that. Two episodes
Starting point is 00:13:18 are out. You can go check it out. And this week, I think we said we got Roy Wood Jr. on this week. What? It's going to be a good one. No big deal. No big deal. NB week, I think we said, we got Roy Wood Jr. on this week. What? It's going to be a good one. No big deal. No big deal. NBD, NBA.
Starting point is 00:13:28 You know what I mean? But anyways, it's a lot of fun. And this is the most fun NBA season I can remember. Oh, yeah. I'm not invested. I'm fully enjoying this as a neutral. The Lakers did Frank Vogel dirty. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:43 The guy found out like like a common john bolton that he'd been ousted over twitter right was like what yeah they were like interviewing him after the game i mean like i'm sure he wasn't like that shocked yeah i mean the writing was on the wall but to like that uh i can be it's a little unsettling but yeah that regular season's over I can be a little unsettling. But yeah, the regular season's over. I'm going into it. I got my eye on a few teams.
Starting point is 00:14:11 Honestly, it's nice to be watching as a neutral. Free agent? Yeah. Because then I could be a completely fucked up Fairweather fan. I mean, I'm pulling for, obviously, I have my Sixers allegiances, but I'm also pulling for the Grizz. I like the Warriors. pulling for uh the grizz um i like the warriors i for some dumb reason i i'm i'm kind of rooting for anybody in the west other than the suns um i don't know why i like yeah i have a 90s based hatred of the suns but i get that they're good like i'm not i'm not here to say that they aren't
Starting point is 00:14:43 but i i have a weird i don't think they're not i have a subconscious thing where i'm not i'm not here to say that they aren't but i i have a weird i don't think they're not i have a subconscious thing where i'm like i don't know if i need to see them smiling you know what i mean and it's not even because i feel like it's a i can be like well no let me outline my thinking on this it's like yeah i don't know i think it's dan marley that i don't like and that did it for me but yeah i'm feeling i'm feeling the grays um yeah i i just kind of want to see them do their thing although people really no no one's talking about milwaukee no one's really people are not yo so there's this thing like 538 has this statistical analysis that in the past hasn't always been right but it's also like picked up some things like a ahead of
Starting point is 00:15:24 the year that the Raptors won. It had them as the heavy favorites when nobody else really thought they were going to win the title. This year, they are giving the Boston Celtics a 50% chance of winning the
Starting point is 00:15:40 championship. They have the Boston Celtics as much better than everybody else in the league. They have the Boston Celtics as much better than everybody else in the league. And they have since before they went on this crazy run. Or at least they had them as second most likely to win behind the Suns before they went on this crazy run.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Which scares me because that's the one I have one team in the east and one team in the west that I'm rooting against for no real good reason. Like I want to see, I want to see the nets do well. Um,
Starting point is 00:16:08 yeah, you know, and, and, and if Minnesota gets in over the clip, like, look, I'm,
Starting point is 00:16:13 I'm rooting for the wolf. Yeah. Minnesota. I would love to see if the Clippers have, I love the Clippers. I love what they, what they're able to do. I know,
Starting point is 00:16:22 you know, but I, I love Ty Lou and, and um if they compartmentalize if kawaii just comes back all of a sudden and uh oh yeah that would be some wwe type shit but yeah i want to see cat up in it so yeah me too cat and ant that would be come on now but then then they play memphis in that first round and then i'd be like oh but all my chickens yeah having to fight each other so this is not the sort of thing we talk about on our show we're we're more talking about just like we we look back we're having fun we're having fun we're having a little bit more yeah but this is this is what i'm thinking about i had to
Starting point is 00:17:01 switch it off of an nba podcast when i was going to sleep last night because it got my brain racing too much. Too active, yeah. I was just like, fuck, okay, so that could happen. But then, Celtics, man. Anyways, let's talk Etsy. Over 14,000 Etsy sellers are going on strike to protest
Starting point is 00:17:20 increased transaction fees. Exactly. They're just trying to make more money. Yeah. These people are like, protest increased transaction fees exactly um they're just trying to make more money yeah that's and these people like we're we're hand crafting a lot of these things and now you want to squeeze more money out of this um and yeah that's always struck me as like real labor love shit the the etsy market like oh my god yeah they're they're not like in there with like a big machine like you know yeah pump these things out some people do you know like some people use etsy because it's not as there's not as much oversight to like just use that to like sell your other shit but like the real people who make even etsy like what it was like for these crafts people and shit and you know artisans yeah i guess i'm thinking more of like the you know sweaters made of chest hair that i
Starting point is 00:18:06 buy yeah yeah and those are cool those are cool and look credit to you everyone said you weren't gonna get the odor out and you did so i added a new odor that's how i did it that's you know okay this one just overpowers the old one but yeah so a lot of people who i know because i know a few comedians and like writers who you know also have et know a few comedians and writers who also have Etsy shops. This was all on my Twitter feed. A lot of people were saying, the 11th to the 18th, one week, do not buy anything on there. Because they're trying to see if Etsy will reverse course. Good.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Let's do it. Britney Spears, pregnant. Shout out to Britney Spearsars all right yeah oh with uh her like bodybuilder boyfriend right or the guy who's like the personal trainer i mean yeah like fitness model i believe is what i would call him they will have uh beautiful children and i i believe these are twins. So a shout out to those beautiful people. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's what, that's the initial reports.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Although I'm no expert. All right. Like I did, I did, I was waiting for this announcement and the benefit for one to come back to the show to give me something to live for.
Starting point is 00:19:20 But I actually haven't, haven't confirmed with my sources, with the Britneyney watchers yeah but it just said if two are in there i might see it says speculative speculative if two are in there yeah god and finally jared leto so there's pretty cool guy huh so he has a movie out called morbius i in my old man brain called it morpheus granddad came you guys talking about morpheus last week morbius getting bad reviews like they're like all time is one of those ones i'm trying to think of like the last one to do this where everyone
Starting point is 00:20:08 is united and shitting on a single movie. I guess Dolittle was kind of like that. Cats was like that. Cats like you got no respect. It was like the accepted opinion of the internet which is like
Starting point is 00:20:24 don't like that. Don't fuck around with that. Don't even pretend that you like it. Although there was the it was like the was accepted opinion of the Internet, which like don't like that. Don't fuck around with that. Don't even pretend that you like it. Although there was the pretend you like and also watch it for fun. Of course. So bad. It's good. But like this feels like it's on some do a little shit where it's like, I don't know who the fuck is watching this.
Starting point is 00:20:41 More people than I would have expected. It did like, OK okay i guess it's based on you know a comic book ip so it's got its fans but it's supposedly not very good um but anyways it does feel like this is bringing about a little bit of a re-evaluation a reckoning on jared leto and uh gawker the new gawker back uh the new Gawker, back. The new Gawker is pretty good. Resurrected? Yeah, Resurrected. I don't know how many articles they
Starting point is 00:21:11 released, but a day. It's definitely not at the size and power of the old Gawker, but they have a high hit rate for me. Oh, yeah. I mean, yeah. They got a good editorial point of view right now. Yeah. Anyways, they just kind of did a, hey, let's take a look at Jared Leto. Right.
Starting point is 00:21:30 See what this man brings to the table. What if we take all the things we hear about Jared Leto and put them into one article? Then what do you think now? So they kind of just did a run through of his career recently. So some of the things that weren't top of my mind, one thing about Jared Leto was when he played the Joker in David Ayers' Suicide Squad, and everyone was like, nah, why don't we give that another shot? So he played the Joker and heard the stories about Ledger getting into character by going through it. And he decided he'd do that by doing some funny pranks.
Starting point is 00:22:14 He sent Margot Robbie a live rat. He sent bullets to Will Smith. He had his henchman bring a dead pig to set. He said that he sent the cast anal beads and used condoms. What? A claim that he later walked back. I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise, spontaneity.
Starting point is 00:22:36 But then there's also these reports that he pays, in Gawker's words, a little too much attention to underage girls. And then the article says, so Leto appeared to have not yet kicked this alleged habit by 2018. Former Disney star Dylan Sprouse, who had reportedly started dating the model Barbara Palvin at the time, tweeted at Leto,
Starting point is 00:23:00 now that you've slid into the DMs of every female model aged 18 to 25 what would you say your success rate is and then james gunn uh who would go on to direct a superior suicide squad movie replied he starts at 18 on the internet he then deleted that tweet but you know it seems like there is a lot of smoke that uh this dude is a he's got a he's got a very interesting uh i mean he's got a what was that like those that like uh i don't know religious group that he's got yeah i mean there yeah there was also that there was a lot of like during well first of all pre like he didn't know about the pandemic until weeks in because he was off on like a meditation retreat and i think a lot of people are like good for yeah meditation's good we're all gonna need it now
Starting point is 00:23:50 uh but then like these pictures start popping up and he's like part of the polyphonic spree like i don't know if that that might be too uh obscure reference for people but like he looked he looked like just you know picture desert cult it's just like everybody in white clothing and a lot of young young people young women hey we just we just we just all believe in what he's saying you know he's got some really interesting points that's all that's all we're doing uh yeah well i'm sure time time will only tell yeah uh but usually these these stories don't like turn into turns out everyone was wrong about that dude so brian was saying in the chat that like viola davis was not feeling the uh the pranks and shit that she was saying something where is it to the effect
Starting point is 00:24:40 of i did not receive any personally talking about the pranks or else i would have got my husband who was called the headache ball back in the day when he played football and i would have said take care of the joker so it sounded like it sounded like in that instance jared leto knew viola davis was not the one to fuck with yeah he. He's like, Oh, I will break. You know what? I can't get method enough to fuck with this black woman. He's doing the like fingers. I'm so wonderfully mad. Oh,
Starting point is 00:25:14 actually my bad. Oh yeah. My bad. My bad. My bad. I'm sorry. This is your husband. This is your husband.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Oh my God. It's so nice to meet you. I'm such a big fan. Hi, I'm Jared. It's so nice to meet you. I'm such a big fan. Hi, I'm Jared. Anyways,
