Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of When Zeist Was Born on Trendmas Day. That's so good. on Trendmas Day. That's so good. Zeist is born.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Zeist is risen. Zeist will come again. Anybody else? Catholic upbringing? Hell yeah. No. Woo. Wow.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Yeah. I'm Jack. That's DJ Danil. We're also joined by Lil Zam herself, Jamie Loftus! Hi! What's up? The gang's all here. I'm, you know, I'm good. I'm good. I got, I was just telling you off, Mike,
Starting point is 00:02:56 I got Twerking Mummy now an official Yeah! An official permanent force on my desk, so I feel good. You brought it into the Zoom chat and it immediately began trending you can't not trend with this man in your corner
Starting point is 00:03:12 and that's a fact let's tell the people what's trending LeBron is trending because first of all LeBron is just having an incredible logic defying season. It's too old to be doing what he's doing,
Starting point is 00:03:32 but he's still doing it. Still huge and athletic. Huge and athletic and very good at basketball and just getting smarter as a basketball computer. He always puts the ball in the right place. The hoop? And he's shooting better.
Starting point is 00:03:50 LeBron. James, have you heard of him? Oh, I thought you said hoop. The hoop. Oh, the hoop. I was like, who is this man? I think Jamie's with it.
Starting point is 00:04:03 I've heard of this LeBron. So at a Hawks game, the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron got into it, as they say, with a courtside rich guy who was talking shit to him. LeBron called him old steroid ass, according to people who have analyzed the footage. Which is a great, that's so funny. It's so funny.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Imagine not having a sense of humor about that. That's so funny. But that clearly hit a little, like struck a nerve with this guy and his wife because she then uh stood up and started uh just berating lebron saying you can't talk to my husband that way um so yeah uh and they were thrown out lebron later was like oh i don't know if they should have been thrown out they you know they probably had a couple drinks and we're just you know we're we're glad to have fans back at games
Starting point is 00:05:10 yeah um was very ass is welcome to come back anytime um it was very diplomatic uh the the courtside karen as she's being called, was not as gracious in her account. But even her version of events is still like, you have no point. You're clearly in the wrong. But anybody who's sitting courtside at an NBA game and isn't just sitting there with their mouth agape at the wonder of the historic athleticism on display, I can't identify with them. Yeah. The true punishment is that Ulster-ed-ass
Starting point is 00:05:55 didn't get to see LeBron more. Yeah, exactly. Thank you. Ulster-ed-ass is so funny. I'm sorry, I can't get it. Ulster-edridass is so funny. I'm sorry. That's a great, especially off the top of your head. That's a perfect off the top of your head
Starting point is 00:06:13 insult. Very fresh. Very good. Very fresh. Very good. That's also how Danil critiques my outfits when I'm having a good day. You come on, you wear that
Starting point is 00:06:30 Lake Tahoe sweater. I see it and I just know, very fresh, very good. I love it. Groundhog Day is trending because it is Groundhog Day, a big day for preschool. My four-year-old, two-year-old, this is a huge day for them.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Really? Yeah, they make a big deal. And I think I remember that being a big deal, although not a big enough deal that I remembered even what it's supposed to signify. Right. So apparently it is when the groundhog comes out of his hole and sees his shadow, that means more winter is coming,
Starting point is 00:07:09 even though that means that it's sunny when the groundhog comes out. Whereas if it's cloudy, then that means that it's spring, which is also a pretty wild shot calling to be like, hey, it's February and throw away your jackets. Winter's over. Were they socially distancing at Groundhog Day? I have no idea, actually. Punxsutawney Phil?
Starting point is 00:07:38 Undoubtedly not. Of the video that I saw with them, Phil, it's a bunch of dudes in top hats crowded around with their faces as close together as possible looking at this poor animal. They're not wearing masks. No. Wow. He just wasn't going the whole.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Leave Punxsutawney Phil. I'm blowing the lid off because Hunter Harris tweeted pictures and I was like, is this from last year? Because no one's wearing masks. Wow. That was just from this morning. Especially with such plosive words as Punxsutawney Phil, like such a spitty words. Punxsutawney Phil does not look happy in any of these pictures.
Starting point is 00:08:17 There's all these old guys mask unmasked gathered around him. And he, he's, he, he's got it right. He's's like i know that this is not how this is supposed to go right stay six feet away from me like also you know this this is probably the period in time that just like sheer preponderance of references that uh people have said feels like Groundhog Day the most is
Starting point is 00:08:46 during the pandemic. Preach, brother. Yeah. Damn. Big day for big Groundhog Day. Big day. Big day. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Up next, we have EA Games. Oh, babe. DJ Dan will take it away. Just my favorite thing to talk about so uh ea games is bringing back their um ncaa football series um and this yeah yes and it's you know the reason that it's in the news is because they're catching a lot of flack for basically the following paragraph i'm going to read about the game through a a partnership with Collegiate Licensing Company, the game will include the logos,
Starting point is 00:09:27 stadiums, uniforms, and game day traditions of more than 100 schools. EA Sports said it's monitoring the developments involving the use of athletes' names, images, and likeness, which are not slated to be included.
Starting point is 00:09:42 So, you've seen it all throughout the years through sports, through sports broadcast, through the years. College players are put on display for huge March Madness. Like it's years and years of using their image and likeness and their talent to make a shitload of money for these different companies. And these college players often receive nothing. They do not receive nothing. They do
Starting point is 00:10:05 not receive anything. And so EA Sports bringing back this game and specifically not including, again, not slated to be included, include these players' names, images, likenesses, is another kind of like, well, we want to bring this game back for the gamers who care about the game more than they care about these people being treated fairly for their work. And so here we are, the cycle starts anew. The last time EA released an NCAA game was NCAA 14. So it has been seven years since they've released a NCAA football game, which does not necessarily mean that they, I mean, it certainly doesn't suggest that they learned their lesson, but maybe that they're thinking the suggestion that they could make money off of this and it go under the table has like blown under and they're like yeah we can get away with this it'll be fine to worry about
Starting point is 00:10:50 right it's not like we've become less progressive in terms of like how we evaluate entertainment culture are they are they going to be fake names for the schools too like is it going to be like the alabanda crimson wave it does not it does not appear so it appears to be actually the logo stadiums uniform well it doesn't say the names of the schools but logo stadiums uniforms and game traditions it feels like it'll probably be official traditions yeah well and that's the other you know fucked up thing about it is that they'll use all of the likeness. Think about, I mean, this is small potatoes, but it's important still, is like, think of all of the cheerleaders. Think of all the performers.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Think of all the band. Think of, you know, the dude who... Who are all underpaid in that arena. Yeah, absolutely. And they will be celebrated in video game format and not receive a dime. That is so... What a horrific precedent to reset. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Yeah. Yeah. It sucks. It's bad. Not my favorite. So, you know, as much as I love video games, I also hate this. Hate it a lot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Goddamn. The general response seems to be, sweet, nice, college football is back. They got away with it. Let's bring back another game. Yeah. Speaking of that noise that Jamie just made, Pete Buttigieg is in the news because he was just confirmed.
Starting point is 00:12:25 So, yay. Wow. in the news because he was just confirmed. So yay. Wow. Transportation secretary. Hope it was worth it. Hope it was worth it. I just am like, has Pete Buttigieg ever been on a bus? Truly. I've never seen a transportation secretary who
Starting point is 00:12:46 looks like they have used the transportation that they right just yeah yeah yeah what is so is this like amtrak and propping up airlines and stuff like that is that what the transportation secretary does yeah yeah it's a lot of like it's i don't know it all reminds me of like how like andrew yang is on this very weird campaign to seem relatable to everyday new yorkers and cannot stop fucking it up it's so funny i would honestly i would honestly uh give my life savings away to hear Pete Buttigieg describe what he thinks it's like to be on a bus. Because I don't think he's ever
Starting point is 00:13:29 been on one. Right. He'd be like, you know, there's seats. Like he's just checking with someone the whole time. He's not sure if there's seats or if there's just like you just hold the bar. Yeah, exactly. You know who should be the transportation secretary? Joe Biden. Man rides a train every day.
Starting point is 00:13:45 That's someone who knows a thing or two about trains. Point Biden. Boom. I'm going to go ahead and Google what does transportation secretary do? Yeah, it has to do with highway administration, railroad administration. Fixing potholes.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Fixing potholes. i think that garcetti was um angling for that and right and he did not get it because he sucks but you know look who got it that's how i got it just sucks in a different way yeah that andrew yang thing that there was that video of him going around i what he claimed was a bodega but it was like a it's like a full-on like yeah whatever cbs yeah it looked like a cbs literally but uh sean clement retweeted that video i was like i people are pointing out like that it's not a real bodega but and ignoring the fact that this dude clearly doesn't know how to work a banana and like if you see he like picks up a bunch of bananas and like is like doesn't realize they come in bunches and is
Starting point is 00:14:52 like so confused and then he's like i'm gonna have a banana and then picks up the whole bunch and he's like i i guess i'll take all all the bananas you like can't can't figure it out did he think they sell Lucy bananas? Is that what he was going for? Well, they do sell Lucy bananas, but it was almost as if he didn't know that they came in bunches and was startled when he picked up a banana
Starting point is 00:15:16 and a bunch came with it. Literally, he's never food shopped in his life or been inside a food store. Whoever was taking that video and wasn't like, we could do another take. Yeah, let's take that again. never food shopped in his in his life or been inside a food store god whoever whoever was taking that video and wasn't like we could do another yeah let's take that again fired and speaking of uh over overly beloved billionaires mark cuban is trending i feel like mark cuban is always trending uh and it's like Mark Cuban says like this about the Wall Street Bets story.
Starting point is 00:15:48 And I'm just seeing, like we were just talking about this off mic that like when we were younger and for Jamie that was like five years ago, but for me it was like the 90s. Like there was not a thing with there were famous there was famous billionaire there was a famous billionaire it was bill gates and we fucking hated him like he he was just like he was there to uh help you practice photoshopping someone as Hitler. That was like his one purpose in the public eye. And now it's like, Mark Cuban,
Starting point is 00:16:31 like we just love billionaires. There's so many beloved billionaire celebrities who, it should be disqualifying for you to like somebody who's a billionaire. It's very weird. I mean, I think it's probably just also had to do with like the uptick in billionaires in general right but yeah the the the fan culture around billionaires there's
Starting point is 00:16:52 so many at this point it's like you have your elon musk guys you do have your you know bill gates has a podcast that regularly does better than mine so i'm still anti there uh yes there's uh because he has like a podcast with rashida jones or something yeah uh there's who are the other billionaires we said mark cuban you know any uncle loves mark cuban kind of just on i don't know i don't know yeah Yeah. The Elon Musk thing is really... That's the bad, yeah. He had a cameo in Rick and Morty where he actually voiced himself and it was like bad. Was he...
Starting point is 00:17:39 It wasn't critical of him. It was just like, this guy's smart and nothing. That, yeah. And then I was just, I think it was a podcast I was listening to and somebody was saying something smart, but then they shoehorned in an Elon Musk quote
Starting point is 00:17:57 that wasn't relevant. And it was just like, they clearly wanted to quote Elon Musk. It's like they clearly wanted to quote Elon Musk. Liking Elon Musk is fully embarrassing at this point. I know people who are fans of his a couple of years ago where it was like, maybe he's a silly... He makes weed jokes, but he's also a car genius. But it's like if it was getting to be like 2019 and you're like let's let's still give this guy a chance um
Starting point is 00:18:32 i don't know take a look in the mirror i got yelled at at work once for making in front of elon musk like what what if i was like and it was Jack. No. You watch your mouth. It was like in a writer's room. And there was like, I don't know, some guy that just like really would not stand for this slander. And I thought, I said it kind of offhand as if, I was like, oh, we don't like Elon Musk. He's like, what do you mean? He built a spaceship.
Starting point is 00:19:01 He built a car. It's really intense right he like i do one thing save so many lives by just like doing one thing and the fact that he hasn't done it it's like why would like he the man wants to colonize mars that's his mission in life like that's i wouldn't even watch that movie i don't't know. It's so boring. Yeah. Yeah. He's now the richest person in the world. And rather than that being an indictment of his having chosen not to end world hunger or help people even get through the coronavirus pandemic,
Starting point is 00:19:41 he is keeping that money like every day. Yeah. Fine. Yeah. don't i don't know i yeah if you're still holding your breath for something for him to do something i mean would love to be proved wrong but it doesn't seem likely nope i wonder if there is like a billionaire playbook because it does seem like there becomes is it like a quirk of the billionaire mind that they all want to go to space or is it like that they know that captures the imagination of like a bunch of uncles who will then defend them in writers rooms like how why why do he and richard branson and uh jeff bezoszos all have the space thing other than probably because the earth is a husk
Starting point is 00:20:28 and they just want to get to the next place to fuck it up before anyone can get there yeah anyways Mark Cuban is a boss alright and as we're closing out I just got a update that jeff bezos will transition
