Starting point is 00:00:02 Just have the empty seat there. Like Clint Eastwood? Yeah. You're talking about my favorite comedy moment? The Clint Eastwood DNC moment? My favorite comedy segment of all time. Do you think people, that's when they were like, dude, this guy's fucked up. He's lost his mind.
Starting point is 00:00:16 He's like, look, it's Obama. He directed like eight movies after that. What do you mean? Do you think that's when people think he lost his mind? They were like, this guy's just speeding up. Wait, but wasn't the whole thing like he was saying that empty chair was for Obama or something? He was, yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was very convoluted. It was like, it was like Dunesbury symbolism.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Right, right, right, right. You know, where it's just like, and this guy is represented by a empty hat. You guys are aired article? No. Pickup artist mystery has an A-I girlfriend. Oh, wow. Wow. Mystery, like the original pickup artist?
Starting point is 00:00:54 So he's just out there nagging. That is such an old, what's his real name like Eric? You're working way too hard. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, because that whole book, The Game, yeah, it was him. Did you ever watch the VH1 series in, like, 2005 to pick up? It was so funny because it was all these, like, nervous dudes. The writer from Rolling Stone who broke the book, right?
Starting point is 00:01:17 Yeah, Neil Strauss. Strauss. Yeah. To live and die in LA podcast. That was really dark. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, boom in, like, an angel police chase and they're shooting himself. Right.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Jesus. Why are you dropping that? We're trying to do a cold open where it was. It's happening. A fun moment. But that all happened when we were at this, like, it was pre-lockdown. That's right.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It was like, oh, guys, the show is like. Too real. Too real. The thing that just said, though, about that, Clint East was it said, he made an unannounced appearance. He just showed up on stage.
Starting point is 00:01:53 He just pulled up. He said unannounced appearance at the convention, speaking at the top of the final hour. The speech was scheduled to last five minutes. Eastwood started this speech with, I know what you're thinking. Referencing the number of 44 magnum rounds is dirty, hairy, Callahan, fired, blah, blah, blah, and spent much of his time on a largely improvised routine addressing an empty chair representing President Obama. Speech lasted 12 minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:16 You really can't trust famous people who think they've got like a funny idea. Oh, yeah, yeah. Because I was like, this is such a winner of an idea that I have to go to the R&T and show up on the state. Without permission. I'm Ruby Carr, the host of the podcast, OnCore. Check out our brand new episodes featuring music from the show that everyone is reheating as we speak. Heated rivalry. Join me as I go behind the songs that brought Shane and Elia together.

My first thought is, like, what's up with the snacks?

And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Naomi Osaka showing out, she beat.

Starting point is 00:05:30 Many surprises. Welcome to Sweet 305, where the group chat comes to life. What a fuck. It's like a way to say like, oh my friend, hello, hello, my friend, oh, my brother. What a .
Starting point is 00:05:42 Look, I've never ever had with nobody. Except with my my children, my wife, uff. Uff! That's incredible,
Starting point is 00:05:53 yeah, the telenovela. You're the only person I know that loves a Yellow Starburst. It's rumored. There's someone like you'd like to like to collaborate with this person. This is Sweet 305.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Listen to Sweet 305 with Lelle Pons as part of my Cultura podcast network on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this week trend edition of Zerda Ali's Sajai. Bahamas. Yeah. We are in the Bahamas. As strange as that might sound.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Yeah. I mean, it feels normal to me. This is where I belong. In the Bahamas. I have some sandals. First of all, people are realized this is by far the most picturesque environment we have ever recorded in a studio how you feel about Studio B
Starting point is 00:06:45 or Studio A in Hollywood Yeah sure would the baby Bap pen smell walking to the hall Usually within like 60 feet As the crows fly as the crow flies of someone Taking a shit on the street Yeah it's all it's a little nicer than that This is great
Starting point is 00:07:01 Uh I mean like I was saying Bahamar not to be confused with Bahablaf Which is how we Our favorite mountain do correct Spanish Phenetic pronunciation of Baja Blah Yeah. Like I was saying last week, I was like, guys, you're going to have to work with us.
Starting point is 00:07:16 I, I've been so relaxed. I could barely even watch the World Cup final. And you know how mentally ill I am about soccer. I couldn't even be bothered to stop looking at a man. The ocean with an empty beer can on top of his head for some reason. Why am I on trial? Well, because you didn't want to throw it out. I didn't want to hold an empty beer can in the water. So I crushed it on my head. And I laid my hat. As one does. It was very normal. And proceeded to just get drive-by, nuzzled by a manatee. That was great.
Starting point is 00:07:45 That was crazy. It was, we were in the ocean. The Caribbean? Is that where we are? Correct. And a man, we're like a big group of people
Starting point is 00:07:54 and then a manatee just like kind of goes through, the way that like a drunk person who's looking for a fight would like walk through a crowd of people. And people were clearing. Yeah, and people were just like,
Starting point is 00:08:03 oh no, what's this guy's problem? Yeah. Turned out. There's a manate. Yeah, it turns out it was a manity. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Manity. Oh, the humanity. Sean Manity. Yeah. That's something. That is. And I said, oh, the humanity. We've got it all covered.
Starting point is 00:08:17 My name is Jack O'Brien. I'm thrilled to be joined, as always, by my co-host, Mr. Miles Gregg. Yes. Thank you so much. I'm wearing sunglasses. I'm wearing a member's only shirt. I am very relaxed. Yes.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Now, what's happening in the news? You tell me, because I don't know what's going. Is it too much to, like, us being here in person for me to be able to, like, look right into your eyes? Is that why you're wearing sunglasses? I'm going to be real. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:40 I would wear sunglasses, too. I don't really don't want to see your eyes either. Oh, I got eyes of the windows to the soul and mine are wide open, brother. When you jump in here? Get on in. Check it out. The water's wonderful. This is the episode where we tell you what is trending this Monday morning, what was
Starting point is 00:09:02 trending over the weekend. And we also let you as a favor to you guys, our, listeners, we let you get to know us a little bit better by telling you some things that we think are underrated, some things we think are overrated. I do just have to say, if you're feeling early day vibes of the podcast right now, we are in the room with super producer on a hosening. Yep, right there, super producer. Co-creator of the Daily Zikevice. We made a promise early on in this show that if somehow this show ever got a free trip somewhere.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Yeah, we'd go. We'd go. Yeah. And lo and behold, the lovely people at Bahamara were like, hey, come through, bring a producer, and we're like, you're up. Wait, that actually happens? Yeah, we thought we were just bullshit and went on. Unbelievable. Again, thank you for having us. But there, it is
Starting point is 00:09:58 a, like, I'm having a sense memory of recording the daily Zikeis with Anna. Oh, in the room. In the room, not laughing. Yeah, just shaking your head. Shaking your head. being disappointed. Disappointed. Questioning her life decisions. Uh, I'm sure she doesn't have to question them as much anymore because she doesn't actually work on this show, uh, on a day to day basis anymore. Um, she can just be like dreaming of, uh, getting back in the studio with Bowen. Yeah. And Matt. Yeah. Hey, it's a first rate show. I mean, we can't blame you. Anyways, uh,
Starting point is 00:10:33 should we tell them something we think are overrated, underrated? Are all of their? Are all of our things going to have an island theme to them? My underrated doesn't. No. My overrated does. That would be appropriate. Okay, great. Miles, what's something you think is underrated?
Starting point is 00:10:49 Okay, so getting over a jet lag, you know, three hours, the Geist Child, not really going to bed. That's at a right time. It was just so amped up. We're like, okay, I just watch a movie to wind down. The Geist Child, this is, by the way, the first chance that I've had to spend extended time with the Geist Child. Yeah, it's always.
Starting point is 00:11:08 been like birthday party kind of thing, scatter shut. I was dying up there. I was trying so hard. Miles gets in with my kids immediately killing. My kids are like dying, laughing. I'm like trying too hard with the geist child. He's like a cat. He's like nagging me.
Starting point is 00:11:24 He's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. We eventually had a little catch with his car. Yeah. And that really, uh, we were kind of. He'll warm. He's warming up. Yeah, he's early doors. By the end of the day.
Starting point is 00:11:33 He did say, dude, settle down. Yeah. You want it too bad. Yeah. At first. And he kept like, You sweating? Or he says to me, I think, where are your hair go?
Starting point is 00:11:43 Which is great. So we're trying to get him to bed and we're like, all right, let's put a movie on. So, you know, her majesty and I are like, oh, dude, I haven't seen Honey I shrunk the kids since I was like a kid. Amazing pick. Yeah, and I was like, I showed it to my kids too. Yeah, yeah. Threw it on. And then so my underrated is actually the intensity of Honey and Shrunk the kids because in my mind, I'm like, dude, I love this movie.
Starting point is 00:12:07 and probably the last time I thought I was 12. And I was like, okay, I remember it's like they become tiny. They eat a giant oatmeal cookie with the icing. It was like the thing I fantasized about as a kid is a cookie that big that you could just take handfuls of icing and eat it. Yeah. Then I remember they ride a tiny ant, a lawnmower turns on, and then everything's okay. That ain't no tiny ant, Miles. That ain't is huge.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Dude. So cut to me watching. I'm like, meanwhile, the storylines here are like a strained mare. marriage. Yeah. Like an agro overbearing dad. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Who's like, who's like, you gotta be a big tough guy. Yeah. Toxic masculinity. He's like the messed up dad from, like neighbor dad from American beauty. Yeah, is like the energy that he's giving.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Yeah. Freaky. Then there's a near death drowning. Yeah. Then an aunt getting violently murked in a scorpion fight. Why do they have a scorpion in their backyard? Do, where are they in Southern California? Are they in Arizona?
Starting point is 00:13:04 Like in the grass? Yeah. There's just scorpion. lurking back there. Zygang, let me know if they're typically found in the grass places. I mean, I guess
Starting point is 00:13:12 California, I guess they do. Have you had a Scorpion before? I haven't, but I know my good friend Frankie Munez was living in Southern California. Do you remember that run? What was he saying? Frankie Munez, Malcolm from Malcolm in the middle,
Starting point is 00:13:25 just had this run on social media where he kept talking about how like he's having to kill all these scorpions in his backyard. That's right. And it doesn't that lead to people to people, like, I mean, yeah, they guys had like a head injury. What are they saying there's something?
Starting point is 00:13:37 It was around the same time that he admitted to everybody that he didn't remember making Malcolm in the middle at all. Great. Yeah. Anyways. Anyway, so watching all that, do you remember how the scorpion fight goes down? The scorpion? It's gnarly. Just like severs its spinal cold.
Starting point is 00:13:52 It's stinger at the face of the ant's skull. And it's just like, go, boo. So when that scene turns on, I'm like muting it. Yeah, yeah. Because like, suddenly we went from like, he was kind of starting to drift. And then all the excitement of this scorpion fight came. I'm like, oh, no, no, no. And then I saw the thing go down.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I was like, no. Right. Tried to mute it. It was by that point, he kind of didn't care because he didn't really understand what's going on once the kids were crying over their dead ant friend. Yeah. So anyway, just it's one of those films. That aunt's death is like E.T level sad. Like when he does, like, but he doesn't come back unlike you do.
Starting point is 00:14:27 No. And you see the, like, the death blow. I think that's what was like really traumatic for me. It's like an adult watch. I'm like, oh my God, death blow to the sky. That aunt knew he was about to die. Yeah. It still pulled up to protect them in that Lego piece.
Starting point is 00:14:41 So anyway, I wasn't prepared. I remember being, I saw that movie in theaters, like, as a child. And I remember being stressed out by, you know, like, in screenwriting terms, they, like, talk about the dark night of the soul, you know? Yeah, yeah. Where, like, things are just seems so bleak. Like, that movie, just when they're shrunk in the first place, it's like, one in a million chance that they ever make it back.
Starting point is 00:15:07 It seems so preposterous that they would ever make it back. I just remember being so stressed out by that movie at the time. A lot of critiques. And then expecting my kids to love it right away. And they were like, hmm. Right. They're like, uh, really? Like the giant cookie?
Starting point is 00:15:21 Or maybe the aunt death? It was funny too because her majesty, you know, professional producer, production person goes, this isn't how I would find the kids. She's like, why is he suspended over the grass with a magnifying glass? If you know they're back there, just yell out. Right. come to this spot. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Or set up spots if you know they're so small for them to go to and be like, I will find you there. That's crazy. Why are you wasting your time looking for them with a magnifying glass right? If they're at random. Yeah. You have a one-way form of communication with them. The whole time's like, why is the mom now suspended over the yard?
Starting point is 00:15:56 Right. Just call out to them. And would that even work? Are they able to see it with the, yeah, I guess they could. Based on that they were like even below the grass. Yeah. Anyway, whatever. Anyway, so underrated.
Starting point is 00:16:08 To get together, Moranus. My underrated, just vacation small talk, just being at a place like this where everybody's just like a little drunk on the tropical vibes. Yeah. And like just the level of small, like everyone's just like, hey, pretty nice. Are you digging it? Didn't you make friends with some guy from Philadelphia or something? He was teaching my son to toast a bagel, which was, I was like...
Starting point is 00:16:37 Some guy took him over to be your kid's dad. Yeah, yeah. Like, he went up, you know, to the place where you can use the toaster. Yeah. And for some reason, was acting like he'd never seen a toaster before. I was like, you know how to do this. You're like humiliated. Like, we have one at home. He knows how to do this.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Show him like you do at home, son. Launch that bagel. Yeah. But, yeah, just everybody's kind of on the... the same page. And then sometimes you'll get like just a, we had a grandma sitting next to us who's like, yeah, like, it's great down here. Last vacation, not so great. My son tried to rent a submarine and got taken over by like these gangsters. I was like, no, what? It's like cover my kids. She's like Costa Rica full of gangsters. Is it? Why do you travel then if you're so afraid of the
Starting point is 00:17:31 world? I don't know. Everybody's just a little, you know, happy, drunk all the vibes. It's kind of nice. Yeah. You just have to have things like people like, how's it going? Can't be too bad. Am I right? Look around.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Just have your standard responses. Hey, man, you got a pretty gnarly sunburn on the back of your neck. Yeah, I forgot to get that part, man. You might help me out. You might get that. I got an all in my back pocket. You actually can't reach back there. I also go with the movie criticism thing
Starting point is 00:18:08 Watch project Hail Mary On the plane In three I watched one half of it at home with my kids Fell asleep Watched like another chunk of it on another plane Recently and then finished it So probably not the ideal way to watch it
Starting point is 00:18:24 Probably not the way the filmmakers intended Over the course of five weeks Like I was like reading a novel But it is An interesting I just, I feel like it's a very low, or like a movie for lonely times. Like he is, doesn't have anybody like in his life. The whole, he's a teacher, but they don't really explain it.
Starting point is 00:18:48 They're just like, he's, Ryan, he looks like Ryan Goslin. He's incredibly smart. He's like a science, one of the world's best scientists. Yeah. And he's like, I tried the girlfriend thing. I was too into my job and has nobody in his life in a way
Starting point is 00:19:08 that I feel like previous movies would have been like, you need to explain this or there needs to be somebody that he has like back home and in this it's just like no, we're all lonely. So like this is just a lonely movie for a lonely world and we'll just assume
Starting point is 00:19:24 that everybody's on the same page. I've only seen like the first 35 minutes. So I got to that part and then I just saw him kind of like losing it on that space. like space station drinking like IV bag vodka yeah
Starting point is 00:19:36 vodka bag yeah just dressed like he doesn't give a fuck but I had a good yeah no far so good it's good it just
Starting point is 00:19:43 it felt like it's a new like a movie that wouldn't have been made in the same form before the pandemic and now it like there's like something
Starting point is 00:19:52 has changed in us and it's like a massive success so it's like clearly resonating with people but it does just feel like it's a movie made for lonely people by lonely people and not not as a negative just like that is who we are yeah for sure yeah um all right
Starting point is 00:20:10 what's something miles that you think is overrated uh overrated um hydrostatic anorectal injury that occurs when somebody so here's the thing guys it's been a while since i jumped off something higher than maybe four feet into a pool yeah how tall would you say that cliff thing is like 15, 10 feet, at least 40 feet tall. 40 feet. It's like maybe 10 or 15, 10 to 12 feet or something. Yeah. I jumped in.
Starting point is 00:20:38 I was trying to pencil dive into this thing. Yeah. Dude, my balance went off. And then I did a full, uh, Manu. That's what it's called. Remember I was asking you if you knew about that like, named after Manu Jainobli? Uh, kind of. Mone.
Starting point is 00:20:53 But like, this is that like way of here. I'm just a clip. This is like how dudes is jump. Oh, yeah. And cause the biggest splashes. you like kind of do a gainer. Yeah. You got to kind of go pike position.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Let's just see one so you can boom. With that upsplash. So that's exactly what you did. All right. So Miles just show. So I'm waiting. All right. So this is Miles, my kids and I are about to jump off the high dive at this pool.
Starting point is 00:21:21 And I'm in line behind Miles. Miles goes first. Yeah. I go first. I'm like, whatever. I'm just going to send it off this thing. And pencil. in, I forgot how to keep my body straight.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Yeah. So at the last second, I started, like, leaning back. I went rectum down into the water. And the surface tension, it felt like I got kicked by, like, a horse in my ass. And I, like, I didn't want to, you know, like, when you kind of land wild in the water and, like, you submerge your, those first moments, like, oh, no. Yeah. Am I okay? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:53 I came out and I was like, oh, oh, my God. You're having to talk with yourself to have there. Before you get up. I was like, hey, man, get out, shake it off. Don't scare these kids. Put on a brave face. Yeah, because my kids hadn't gone off yet. And so we were trying to like go and show them like, yeah, this isn't a big kid.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Yeah, I don't want to come out of the water. I'm like, ah, my ass. Help me. But that's how I felt because, again, I forgot proper water technique. Yeah. And how to do it. So then I was like, is this possible? Like, could you really do yourself from falling in the water?
Starting point is 00:22:28 So you're talking specifically about what happened. So I will say standing from where I was, like just looking straight out, Miles hit the water, and then water came up at least as high as he had jumped in from. A secondary splash from the way my massive. I thought you did that on purpose and I was impressed. I was like, did you guys see that? You guys see that? Crazy.
Starting point is 00:22:50 It only costed him the ability to sit on the toilet for three days. So then I looked up, is this a real thing? and then I saw the hydrostatic anal rectal injury, but what happened was there, people call it a douche injury or something, from just so much water. Luckily, I didn't have that kind of experience.
Starting point is 00:23:10 It was a pure impact injury. Yeah. But there are tales of people falling off a jet ski. Oh, and then like the exhaust jet hitting them in the butt. Oh, I haven't had that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That seems bad.
Starting point is 00:23:19 I've had it from jumping off of like a high dive and being like forcibly douche. Yeah, yeah. So anyway, guys, It's just really, it's not, it's not as easy, actually, to jump in there. And in a way, I'm afraid to do it again. Yeah. But part of me feels like I'm going to have to conquer this or I'm going to be on a stretcher coming out of this place.
Starting point is 00:23:39 Her medge was immediately like, well, what the fuck did you expect? It's just like, no, no sympathy. It's just like, well, what are you doing? Why are you doing that? What's the point? I will say you put on such brave face that her match then jumped off. And I got to take a slow-mo video. She nailed it.
Starting point is 00:23:56 And she nailed it. Yeah. Came out. No grimace. I'm always just, like, used to jumping and pulls off the ledge. You know, like, I'm not used to hitting terminal velocity with my butt cheeks. So it is what it is. So, guys, please be safe.
Starting point is 00:24:10 And just know you want to really hit the water properly. And just generally, because my kids, after that, went off that same thing conservatively, like, 40 times afterwards. And, like, nary, you know, just like doing, like, triple spins. Good for them. Yeah, yeah. Showing off. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:29 But like, there are certain things that I do now that I haven't done since I was a kid and assume that it's going to be the same. It's not, it's not. What did you try and do? Did you try to pull some shit off? No, no. The water slide I went down yesterday was definitely like, you know, I hit every, every part of my body on the sides, which was great.
Starting point is 00:24:52 It was super fun. But I was like, oh, right. This is why the other people going down this water slide are like teenagers. Yeah. And I'm like an old guy. Yeah, yeah. The guy running the slide is like, you sure, man? Yeah, yeah, yeah, why?
Starting point is 00:25:08 What do you mean? How old are you, man? Whoa, why am I on trial? My own trial here. All right, let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We'll talk about the World Cup. Do you see this?
Starting point is 00:25:17 World Cup? What about your overrated? Oh, my overrated. Wow. Credit scores. Vacation mode activated. credit scores. Oh, you're still in the bait
Starting point is 00:25:29 and the better? Just keep your nose out of my business. No, I just found out they were invented in 1989. Yeah. What the fuck are you talking about? Part of that it was like just based on
Starting point is 00:25:42 it just put things into perspective that we were fairly recently in a world where like you used to be able to get a mortgage with like a letter from your priest. That's like how you would. like go to the bank be like,
Starting point is 00:25:57 yeah, this guy vatches for it. My senior Thomas Kiefer wrote this. And now it's just been like a ceaseless, like optimization of daily life. And like not for our betterment, just for like the betterment of consumerism. Sure,
Starting point is 00:26:11 yeah, yeah. And so. Keep you in check, man. It's just such a bummer. I don't know. Everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:17 What I say about bringing up bummer shit right now? I know. Well, that's why I was trying to skip past. Talk about the World Cup. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And like the first thing you learn when you're like, okay, you got to build up credit is like,
Starting point is 00:26:30 like buy a bunch of shit on a credit card and like pay the credit. So it's just, it's just like how much, how much shit do you buy? I fucked that up so bad at the first credit card because like I'm not like financially illiterate and most of my people, my family was not super financially illiterate. So my dad was like, you should get a credit card to start building your credit. He told me that when I was 19. Yeah. And but he always gave the cab. He was like, never. spend what you don't have, just use, if you don't have the money, just spend what you can.
Starting point is 00:26:59 That first year, I, like, maxed it out, but it was, like, the limit was only, like, two grand, thank God, because I was just, like, a child, basically. And was only making minimum payments.
Starting point is 00:27:08 And that was my first lesson. Like, why isn't it going to down? I only have to pay, like, 50 bucks a month, but this thing is not going down. This is such a good deal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:17 No, no, no. But, yeah. Knocked it off. It's just at how much shit can you buy score? And, uh, yeah, it's,
Starting point is 00:27:24 Yeah, there's that Black Mirror episode about like a world where you have like one cohesive social score and it like goes down. Right. As like people, if you have like bad interactions with people and like you move down in a cast system. And I feel like if you showed somebody from the 80s like how we live today, that's what our world would look like to them. Right, right. Wait. So there's one. You have a score?
Starting point is 00:27:50 Yeah, man. Like what the fuck? Yeah. It seems weird and reductive. than like a bad way to live. But yeah. They were all in cocaine in the 80s. Yeah, they didn't care.
Starting point is 00:28:00 They had a lot of going on, you know? Let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We'll talk about the World Cup. I'm Ruby Carr, the host of the podcast, Encore. Check out our brand new episodes featuring music from the show that everyone is reheating as we speak.
Starting point is 00:28:21 Heated rivalry. Join me as I go behind the songs that brought Shane and Elia together. I'll tell you the stories of Fice, My Moon, My Man. wolf parades I'll believe in anything and tattoos all the things she said and how they all became a part of this global phenomenon
Starting point is 00:28:35 stream encore on IHeart Radio Crave or wherever you get your podcasts What's up fam? I'm sports journalist Ari Chambers Hey what's up y'all? Starting point is 00:28:55 So Kelsey Finler She became the first female solo rower to go from California to Hawaii. My first thought is, like, what's up with the snacks? Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline. And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Naomi Osaka, showing out, she beat Sabalinka.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi. You get the palm for that. Because we're not just interested in what happened. We're interested in why everyone's talking about it. Because everyone watches women's sports. Listen to everyone watches women's sports. On the Iheart radio app.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here. You know us or rather you know them. Tony and Candace, Nina and Lance, Spike and yes, the chicken. We've played a lot of iconic characters over the years, but today we're showing up as ourselves
Starting point is 00:29:55 to tell you about Podlandia AO Rewatch, our brand new podcast. Each week, we'll revisit an episode of Portlandia from the very beginning, breaking down the sketches, exploring the backstories of our most iconic characters, revisiting the Portland locations you know and love, and opening up about our creative process. How did any of this get made? Why do we think that was a good idea?
Starting point is 00:30:16 We're ready to talk about it. And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life. Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysler, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more. Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words,
Starting point is 00:30:34 but a song, a melody. I thought he was going to write. I thought you're all going to write a song. I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia. Ayo rewatch on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:30:46 or wherever you get your podcasts. My first guest is Paris Holtan, Shakira, Luke and Yerrin, Samira and Gracie. I'm so excited. On the bouncy bed. You have a support.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Many surprises. Welcome to Sweet 305 where the group chat comes to life. What a . It's like a way to say like, Oh, my God, my friend, hello, my brother. What up? Look, I never have ever had to be able to have with my kids, my kids,
Starting point is 00:31:18 so, I know. I'm a man. Oof, that's incredible, yeah, the telenovela. You're the only person I know that loves a Yellow Starburst. It's a woman. There's a man. Like you say, I'd like to collaborate with this person.
Starting point is 00:31:38 This is Sweet 305. Listen to Sweet 305 with Lele Pons as part of my Culture Podcast Network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. We're back. And we didn't really watch much of the World Cup.
Starting point is 00:32:00 We were just like getting text updates from people. Text updates. I ended up watching it last night just to kind of fully watch it. But like I, Barely, I was, like we said up top, I was floating in the sea. Floating with the manatees. And there was a huge, like, watch party happening.
Starting point is 00:32:15 So I was like, if there's an explosion of cheering, I will get out to see what happens. But like, I would just check every like 15 minutes, pretty uneventful until it got towards the end there. They were kind enough to not score while we weren't watching it. That was, yes, it was very nice. The halftime show, have you seen any of the halftime show? I haven't seen the halftime show. Oh, man. It was.
Starting point is 00:32:37 It was Madonna. Madge? It was Madonna. it was BTS, it was Justin Bieber in a horn-up shirt. He looked like Billy Madison, where he's really got tattered knit vest and cut up, like, dress shirt. Why? Because he was just, he was just real casual,
Starting point is 00:32:53 and he kept singing hallelujah on his acoustic guitar. Then we got Shakira and Burnaboy. He kept singing Hallelujah? Yeah, it was like the song, like, there was only like a couple lyrics, but most of it, then he is like, World Cup, Hallelujah. And I was like, wow, you really customized it for the event, dude. Genius. How did you come up with that? Less up, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:13 And then Gustavo Dudamel conducted the Muppets in a rendition of Seven Nation Army. Okay. That was a nice street for us. Seems like a L.A. Philharmonic people. Good use of his. Yeah. Then they were like kids
Starting point is 00:33:26 singing about love. And then Tom Cruise gave like a huge opening remarks before the final to open the final. Right. I heard about that. Stood on an Apple box talking about the beautiful game. part of me was like, what the fuck is this guy doing there? What does he have to do with football? But I get that
Starting point is 00:33:44 as an ambassador of quote unquote American, North American culture. The United States. And to the world, they're like, oh, Tom Cruise. So America is movie stars. Tom Cruise is movie star. But they're trying to use him as an all purpose like his brand is enthusiasm.
Starting point is 00:34:04 But his brand is enthusiasm for movies. So like having a up there to try and sell enthusiasm for soccer? I don't believe that. No. I don't believe that at all. He's an actor, so he just gave like
Starting point is 00:34:18 a well-delivered monologue basically, so sure. But I think for a lot of people who are like, whoa, whoa, what? Yeah. Nah, don't need it. So anyway, Spain ended up winning 1-0, some
Starting point is 00:34:31 some shoving broke out a little bit. After. At the end there. Right? But I don't know. The result wasn't too much of a surprise given like how Argentina was kind of just getting through the like ladder stages like like like just like these insane comebacks right and I was talking to tam yahia uh-huh huge Argentina fan I was texting I was like I was like hey how you feeling she's like ah she's like honestly I'm surprised I'm proud they got to the final yeah but she said after that england game I wasn't sure
Starting point is 00:35:02 they were gonna they were going to be able to do it because it looked like they had basically like blew their mental like wad trying to even get through that match that they were just like, fuck. Now we got a final. Yeah. Wasn't great. But hey. And Spain was, I remember, you know, as an outside, you know, not huge soccer fan, like coming in,
Starting point is 00:35:20 Spain was the team that people said was the best team heading in. And then, like, there were a couple early games where people like, oh, it's actually France. But then Spain ended up being the best team. Yeah. No, they did it. And credit to them is their second World Cup win. Shout out to my Arsenal players who play, who were Spain. Spanish. That's Michael Marino, Martin Zubimendi and David Raya.
Starting point is 00:35:43 Zubimdi. Yeah, it's nice to see them get to lift two trophies this year. So you're having a fantastic year. And also, you know, also having a fantastic gear is Cash Patel. Because I was wondering how we could slide Cash Patel into this. Dude, he hosted this video acting as if he was Johnny Infantino or he was like Rodrigo, the captain of Spain. Yeah. I'm just going to play this because, it just reeks of a guy whose job is clearly like under threat. So he has to like create these like moments to pat himself. Create a win.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Yeah. And let me just play this for you. We put on the largest sporting event in the history of the world. Everybody including FIFA and the White House looks to the FBI, to arena agency partners, to DHS, the state locals to everybody to figure out how to get six and a half million people into the U.S. and into these games without a single major security incident. that's like just so fun.
Starting point is 00:36:39 The first that he goes, look, we did it. How are we going to get all these people in? Not a single, single event. And a single security event breach happened. So basically, yeah, that was all me. That was all me. I think he goes on to say something else. We have lived up to that measure because you guys have put in the time.
Starting point is 00:36:59 It's truly, truly incredible. We just can't say enough about the preparation and the execution has been lost. There's like a montage of, him pointing to people and shaking their hands at the end. Just a bunch of tactical vests. She's like FBI, cool, man. They're not doing a fucking thing in these things. They're just standing around or like at it.
Starting point is 00:37:18 The one was a meeting where they just had the World Cup trophy on it. Yeah. And he wasn't even in the room. Yeah. He, yeah, it reminds me of that meme of like the guy pretending like he's pushing the subway train to make it go,
Starting point is 00:37:31 you know? What's that one? It's like people, a guy at a, he's like at a subway stop with a, a reflective vest on. And when the train's like starting to go, he's like acting like he's the one who's pushing it. There you go.
Starting point is 00:37:43 Yeah. 100% that. He's just like taking, taking credit. Also, let's not forget. Oh, you enjoyed that World Cup?
Starting point is 00:37:50 You're welcome. You're welcome. He also said also thank you to the White House task force director, Andrew Giuliani. Let's not forget that Rudy's annoying son was the somehow director of the White House. You put a task, whatever. So anyway,
Starting point is 00:38:04 everyone's got a fake con job. I always felt that because they used to make fun of this kid when he was 11 years old, Andrew Giuliani, on SNL. Chris Farley played him as like a buck-toothed moron. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:14 And I was always like, man, that's kind of fucked up that they're making fun of this 11-year-old, but man, they don't miss. Also,
Starting point is 00:38:22 they know. It's rarefied air for Farley to do, like to do a parody. Oh, yeah. So in a way, you know, take that and embrace it.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Take that, take that, take that. Um, the Odyssey. Mm. The other big thing that has.
Starting point is 00:38:37 happened this weekend. B. World Cup. Miles. You go Boff, dude? It went Boff. Oh, no. We went crazy.
Starting point is 00:38:45 It only made $264 million following right wing backlash, which that's for those unfamiliar with what constitutes Bafo B.O. That's a Bafo B.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Yeah. 264 million. 264 million. It's the third biggest opening of the year behind Toy Story 5 and Super Mario Galaxy, the movie, or the Super Mario Galaxy movie, but, and those are both, you know, PG, full
Starting point is 00:39:15 family movies. You're bringing at least two to three people with you to see that. The Odyssey is rated R. I don't know. Does it need to be R? Do you need to kill all these people, man? Was there any of the, were any of the woke conspiracies true? Oh, yeah. Do they come to pass? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. It's terrible. Turns out. movies really bad. No,
Starting point is 00:39:38 so the right wing was like trying to get people to boycott it. They were claiming that it's a woke conspiracy. And then the reviews came out. It was like 95% of Rotten Tomatoes. And then the audience meter came out and it's 97% on the popcorn meter. It was weird because over the weekend and on Friday,
Starting point is 00:40:03 they kept like drudge report, for instance, like the right wing front page of the internet kept showing individual bad reviews. It was like, not everyone loves the Odyssey. I was like, what, so is this movie like, and then I would like go over and check Metacritic and it would still be like high 80s. I was like, so what is this about? But I think they were just trying to, they wanted to have the counter narrative that this was a movie that like nobody liked
Starting point is 00:40:34 because it was too left Ryan just hit me up in the chat he said there are reasons to not like the movie but not for the casting right okay um I had a friend who saw and then they're like dude when Travis Scott showed up it completely blew their mind and they're like no
Starting point is 00:40:48 why because he's a because he's a bard so Christopher Nolan said well he is like a modern day bard uh huh is how many plays is he like do it like he does it does he do a cappella battle rap
Starting point is 00:41:01 at the beginning it's lit A number of conservatives were compelled to praise the movie including Ben Shapiro who still complained about the casting of Elliot Page but was like
Starting point is 00:41:15 I mean, it's a fucking classic and Fox and Friends is Griff Jenkins Is that a real guy? Yeah, sounds algorithmic, but sure Get in here, you old so and so, it's Griff Jenkins who claims
Starting point is 00:41:32 that teenagers across America will now be homer maxing. What fuck does that mean? You ready to Homer Max? I don't know. I have to see the movie before we go too deep on it. But it is just funny that they were like really trying to make this a thing. How does one Homer Max? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:51 Does that even a thing? They're just saying they're going to be Homer. Like, what does that mean? You're going to be all traumatized by all the shit you've seen being Odysseus. Leave your family for 10 years. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Have them wait for you.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Yeah. Yeah. Fight giants. I don't know. All right. We're going to take one more break. I'm going to go ride a water slide. And then I'm going to come back and we're going to talk about other news stories. We'll be right back. You've heard the chaos.

Starting point is 00:42:54 Hey, what's up y'all? It's your girl, Sam J. And we're the host of everyone watches women's sports, a new podcast from Together and IHart Women's Sports. Because let's be real. Women's sports is giving us way too much to talk about these days. So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo rower to go from California to Hawaii. My first thought is, like, what's up with the snacks?
Starting point is 00:43:15 Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline. And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women sports. Naomi Osaka showing out, she beat Sabalinka. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi. You get a calm for that.
Starting point is 00:43:37 Because we're not just interested in what happened. We're interested in why everyone's talking about it. Because everyone watches women's sports. Listen to everyone watches women's sports. On the Iheart radio app. Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.

Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysler, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann and many more.
Starting point is 00:44:40 Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song ability. Well, I thought he was going to write. I thought you were going to write a song. I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia. Ayo rewatch on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My first guest is Paris Holtin, Shakira, Luke and Yerrin, Samira and Gracie.
Starting point is 00:45:10 I'm so excited. On a bouncy bed. You have surprises. Many surprises. Welcome to Sweet 305, where the group chat comes to life. What a . It's like a way to say like, Oh, my God, my friend, oh, my
Starting point is 00:45:23 her mother. What a . Look, I've never had to have been about to anybody. Except with my kids. My kids, if you know. See my amante. Oof.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Yeah, that's the telenovela. You're the only person I know that loves a Yellow Starburst. It's flammered. And there's someone that you like you say, I'd like to collaborate with this person. This is Sweet 305.
Starting point is 00:45:51 Listen to Sweet 305 with Lele Pons as part of my Culture Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back.
Starting point is 00:46:06 We're back. Miles, we were talking last week about this Wall Street Journal headline that was like, these farmers had a failing hog farm. Oh, right. And then they struck it rich
Starting point is 00:46:16 with $20 million by selling their farm to become a data center. Like, fuck over everybody in their community by doing so. Cashing out guys, sorry. Held out for 22 million. Flooding their community with like wastewater.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Yeah. But so looking at it more broadly, Paul Viginalan wrote a story for us. Talk about how data centers are actually unpopular. Yeah. It's been actually the best thing for people
Starting point is 00:46:44 to understand how terrible it is. Right. Because it's like, it's hard to, to be like, disgenerative AI is bad for creativity or those kinds of things. Right.
Starting point is 00:46:53 But when they're like, look at the amount of energy, water, and pollution, it's consuming or putting out, then people are like, oh, wait,
Starting point is 00:47:01 what? Yeah, it's probably become like the single most, like, radicalizing element of, like, this thing for people to be
Starting point is 00:47:07 not with it. Yeah. No, this thing that doesn't really do anything that anyone can point to of note or of worth for humanity, uh,
Starting point is 00:47:16 on the other hand, it will, the one tangible thing it will do is turn your community into the like scar era pride rock. Lion King. You see the aerial photos of some of these places and it's just everything's dead. Everything's brown. Everything looks like it's been, you know, taken over and killed.
Starting point is 00:47:41 So they've demanded space in over 3,000 towns and cities and there are another 1,500. in the midst of being built, a Gallup poll shows that seven out of ten Americans do not want these buildings being built in their communities. Who are the other three? Probably have no idea.
Starting point is 00:48:02 They're hard of hearing. They probably don't go outside much. What do they have in mind for what a data center is like? I'm trying to think like what could it actually be where someone goes, oh, yeah, I don't mind. I've want data center.
Starting point is 00:48:16 It has to be someone who's completely doesn't even understand. understand what that means. They're like, I'm not against money. The buildings, uh, cause higher utility bills to private citizens to offset the data. So they must just be reading some form of, you know, propaganda that says that that's not the case. Um, or don't, again, or don't know. You know, because like some people truly like, you'll tell them things that are going on and they're like, I just like business. I don't know. I didn't know that. I just thought my bill was hired. They're like, no, no, no, you're paying for it. They're like, nah, I'm not. Nah, Elon Musk probably.
Starting point is 00:48:48 is, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. The centers also cause pollution in water, debilitating noise, removal of parks and green areas, require transmission lines to cross community members' private land. I saw June, one of our past guests on the show, June was like retweeting somebody who was like, yeah, these things take up less water than golf courses. I guess we should ban golf courses. And she was like, yes. Yeah. Yeah, we should. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:49:22 In some parts of the earth, we don't have the water to sustain those. It's not possible. I mean, yeah, I'm glad that there is like some action happening because that was like a big thing is like Governor Hockel and New York was like, yeah, we're going to have to have a moratorium. A little pause on this. Moratorium. Yeah. On this just absolute blight on the land. Top five words to say with a Philadelphia accent.
Starting point is 00:49:46 A moratorium. Moratorium. Um. Yeah, so they're not doing a great job of making their position very popular. The way they're like going about seizing land to create these data centers is eminent domain, which is always popular where the government just comes in and is like, sorry, this is hours now. What do you say?
Starting point is 00:50:09 It was like 25 bucks, 30 bucks? No. Give you a gift receipt to Cracker Barrel. but yeah the government just pops up grabs the land and compensates the owners however they see fit so this seems like low-hanging fruit for any opposition party the mainstream Democratic Party not always great at seizing those but aOC has leapt into the void visiting counties all over Georgia yeah and like speaking directly to this there's an interesting, yeah, I've seen the video of it where like a lot of people are a little, like,
Starting point is 00:50:49 she's talking to like conservatives too. Right. And, but just coming at them, I'm like, so how has it affected your life? And they're immediately like, oh my God, it's the air sucks. It's so loud. I can't stand it. And she's like, and that's what I'm saying. Right. We need to like not have that. We need to take care of the land. And they're like, huh, all right. But we'll see. We'll see what happens in the next election cycle. Yeah. People, people are like, I don't like, AOC, she's too much like a regular Democrat. It's like, what if a regular Democrat just took the low-hanging fruit? And did the things a politician would do to win?
Starting point is 00:51:25 Right. Well, like, that's at least better. A lot of low. The fruits on the ground, guys. Yeah, yeah. Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate, good news for people who aren't fans of them. We're arrested in Miami over the weekend on UK charges of sex trafficking and rape. They're arrested by U.S. Marshals with a sealed warrant.
Starting point is 00:51:46 which, yeah, it seems bad. Well, yeah, they're looking to extradite them to the UK for this because all these new charges came out. And they're right now, it's funny because they can tell their lawyer is talking from the place of like, we're supposed to be good with Trump, man. So like, this shouldn't be happening. What is even going on right now? Yeah. Yeah, their lawyer, Joseph McBride said that this was basically a quote, political hit.
Starting point is 00:52:12 He also said, quote, This extradition demand has one purpose to kidnap Andrew and Tristan through paperwork before an American jury exposes the truth to the entire world. We are confident that once a competent judge sees the fact, and once the Department of Justice
Starting point is 00:52:28 confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain's political dirty work. Not here? Never. It's usually the other way. Britain will do America's right. In this instance, That's what he should have said.
Starting point is 00:52:43 Yeah, yeah. He's like, normally they're doing our direction. They go into Iraq just because we tell them. Coalition of the women, bro. Now we need a coalition of the red pilling, okay, to come bust these dudes out. I just also want to add this detail about Joseph McBride, their attorney. He's a maniac, dude. He's not only is he representing these two scumbags, he also was like representing a ton of like J-6ers.
Starting point is 00:53:07 And he, this is from his Wikipedia, just so you can get an idea of like how much like in his own weird reality he's in where he's a victim. Quote, he claims that someone attempted to assassinate him for his role representing January 6th defendants by remotely taking control of his 2020 BMW X5M3. I love that all of that's in there, letting you know he's driving to M3. And attempting to cause him to crash at high speed.
Starting point is 00:53:31 He additionally claims that in the aftermath of this assassination attempt, his BMW would only drive in reverse and that he drove from the Fort McHenry Tunnel to Washington, D.C., approximately 39 miles in reverse. Wow. He additionally claims that he simultaneously experienced Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, the Epstein-Barr virus, and long COVID after being vaccinated for COVID. Wow.
Starting point is 00:53:55 How do you, I'm sorry, that's such a crazy liar. Like, yeah, dude, I'd drive 39 miles in reverse. Someone's calling the police if you're driving in reverse on a highway. So most people, they would, but I'm actually really good at it. They barely noticed. Wait, is that car going backwards? Not how casual the driver is. You got to grab the passenger seat and go like this.
