Starting point is 00:00:05 I mean, obviously, congratulations. Congratulations. And thanks. And condolences at the same time. Yes, I know. Condulterations. The two cons. Condulterations is accurate.
Starting point is 00:00:19 Exactly. What a wild experience to say the least. I know. All happening so quickly. Yes. To be just like fully devastated to have my phone ring and buzz. Your phone must have actually melted like a dot. Ali painting.
Starting point is 00:00:36 Quite, like, quite literally. Like, it just started going off. Like, I found out that someone texted. A D-A-L-I, not a D-L-L-L-Y. Yes. Yeah. My phone, that's literally how I found out. It was like, I got a text from a coworker that was like, my heart is breaking for you. And I was like, what the fuck is she talking about?
Starting point is 00:00:52 And then I immediately kind of knew. And then my phone started exploding. And then I saw the video. And then I was like, oh, fuck. And literally, you guys, I don't know if you even understand, like, the amount of people. Like, you're right. Like, I couldn't, like, I had to turn it off at one point because it was overwhelming. It doesn't work anymore.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Yeah, it was, it was truly a whirlwind experience, you know what I mean? But, like, most people would have been really sad. And I was sad, but then I immediately, like, obviously galvanized that sadness into something positive. And we flipped it around and was like, you know what? Hold on a minute. Wait a minute. Flip that. Let me do some back.
Starting point is 00:01:29 I think that's from a dolly part in the song. You know. Yeah. Smack it up, flip it, rub it down. Yes, that is. down. Yeah, that rewinded back. She was talking about flapjacks.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Exactly. It was about pancakes. She was like, you guys, flapjacks. Rub it down with butter. It was truly rewarding because it's like, you guys know better than anybody. I've been flapping gums about Dolly Parton for years. I have been preaching the good word. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:01:55 I started this petition when she was still alive because I wanted this to happen. And I'm devastated that it took her dying for people to take me seriously. but also for like three days, my Instagram was perfect. I saw nothing but Dolly Parton. That's all I've ever wanted in my entire life. I'm talking not a baby video,
Starting point is 00:02:17 not a cute dog, like nothing but your Dolly Parton from around the world. And was just like, this is great. This is perfect. Jack, didn't you say you went to a tennis thing
Starting point is 00:02:29 on 925? Yeah. And everybody was dressed up at this tennis. thing for dollar park? Yeah, it was just a tennis thing, like a pickup tennis game, basically, like live ball. And everybody, it was like, this is for Dolly. And so it's, it was like, you know, a cute thing that I could see happening for another celebrity who had recently passed away. But the way they were talking was like, they were like, oh, look at this, look at this weather
Starting point is 00:02:55 that Dolly gave us. Look at that sunset that Dolly painted for us. And I was like, they really believe, like, this is. Next level. Like this is, we, we talk about on the icon episodes about like these icons being our modern day deities, but this is, this truly feels like people are just like, really like view her as an otherworldly figure. I mean, yeah, if someone's giving it, giving up the weather to you, then that's a pretty big sign that you were some kind of God. That was kind of my favorite stuff was like literally there was like a full moon like two nights after and they're like, she's been dead two days. She's already in charge of the moon. We called the Dolly Moon.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Yeah. I mean, it was beautiful. Moons on a cycle, so. No, it was Dolly. Listen, it was Dolly. She was up there. But it was just great because everybody in the world was talking like I normally talk on a normal day. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:49 You know, people look at me and I sound crazy and everyone's like speaking the words. And I'm like, see, who's crazy now? Who's obsessive now? The world is with me. We freaking did it. You know what I mean? And I just, I also. I mean, I don't think it's a coincidence.
Starting point is 00:04:05 I don't know if you all saw the rainbow that was in New York City that night. That was phenomenal. And it was the week Dolly died. And it was this fucking fantastic rainbow that was unworldy on a pink sky. And yeah, there was a storm coming. But who cares? It's a doll. It's Dolly.

Starting point is 00:05:38 Michael Lewis here to tell you about my new book, Blockers, which gives you an inside look at the Trump administration and the public servants who stood in its way. These were people who were securing our most sensitive data, keeping the public safe from all sorts of threats, and engaged in life-saving scientific research, until they were told they no longer belonged. And the question to me is,
Starting point is 00:06:00 if they can't survive in our government, then what does it say about us? Get Blockers now only at blockers.fm. We've all heard the phrase all things in moderation, but that's clearly not us. That's why we're celebrating 300 episodes of That's Messed Up, our Law & Order SVU podcast, where we cover the real crimes behind the stories and interview actors from the show. Starting point is 00:07:01 We're here for the messy, the brilliant, the human version of our heroes. I'm Emmanuel Jochi. I'm Kai Wright. And this is Big Lives. Listen to Big Lives on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, the internet, and welcome to season 459 episode 5 of DirtyEy!
Starting point is 00:07:23 Yeah! It was a production of IHeartRadio as a podcast where we take a deep dive into America's shared consciousness through the day's news. We also have a new non-news history version of the Daily Zykeyes dropping each Monday morning called The Iconograph. It's not really new anymore. I should probably take that out of the script. but I read what I see. But yeah, we've been doing it for almost a year now.
Starting point is 00:07:45 We've covered some amazing icons. We cover the Zykeyes through a different icon each week. Probably our most popular episode at this point. Fricking Dolly Parton with today's guests. We've recently dropped Oprah. We recently dropped Selena. And now we are in spooky season. Go check out the Dracula episode from on Monday.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Dracula. We got three more spooky. ass motherfuckers coming your way. But here, now, it's Friday, October 9th, 2026. October 9 is national, what the, what the fuck is this? International Beer and Pizza Day. National Moldy Cheese Day. National, uh, that's it.
Starting point is 00:08:29 There's some other weird stuff. I don't even need to acknowledge. Beer and cheese. Shut out. Moldy cheese? What was that? There's beer and, international beer and pizza day. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:37 National moldy cheese. cheese day. So shout out your Gorgonzola's and the like. Is that what they call them? Moldy cheeses? Just because they're mold? Yeah, I guess so. I always thought those were like just soft ripened cheese. Yes, right, but thank you. I think if it's got a little blue. If it's got a little blue, you know what I mean? Then that's what it means. I like that. But the egg day. I just don't, I wouldn't call it moldy cheese. World Egg Day. As the Geyshout now has become scrambled eggs has become the Geyschow's favorite food. Are you preparing those?
Starting point is 00:09:09 The scrambled eggs? Yeah. What's your, you got a method? Yeah. You crack them first? Whisk them? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:09:15 I whisk them. I get them nice and I already have the egg beat. And then a little butter, oil, keep it low, and then just keep starting it. Keep working it. Keep working it. Keep working it.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Keep working it. And then you get that creamy. They still keep cooking after. Yeah, baby. So you got to take them off the heat before you think you need to take them off the heat. You'll never see any browning on my scrambling. No. Never.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Ever. Okay. Out of my house. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's not happening. Get that out of my face is what my eight-year-old will say to me if I give them some brown scrambled eggs. Do you put any water in the, in with the eggs? No.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Ew. Okay. All right. It makes it nice and soft, but you can, you can o me all you want. No, I'm not stepping on eggs, I'm not stepping on the eggs, bro. I'm cutting it with water. So the water does go away. It's not, the water's not in with the eggs.
Starting point is 00:10:04 The water evaporates and makes it very soft. Yeah, sure. There's a great Korean egg dish that I've talked about this before. Our listeners were mad at me because they were like, I tried it. It just made the eggs taste like water to which I replied. Oh, you thought I was telling you to add the water for flavor? You thought I was like, wait, what are you talking about? Which dish is you do on?
Starting point is 00:10:26 Get on gym? Yeah, yeah. Steamed eggs. Yeah, I mean, they go hard with the water on that one. But it, you got, and you got a, we got to also add salt. And you have to really fucking whisk the shit out of it before. before you do that too. Some people just be putting it in there
Starting point is 00:10:40 and not doing the work. You have to, like you have to get that foam top. It's, it's all about that forearm strength. You got to get in there. Or if you lazy like me, get you a little,
Starting point is 00:10:50 those little coffee foamers. A little, yeah, yeah. Yeah, get one of the, zizzizzizzing. That is one of my, that needs to be one of my underrated. It's coming soon. Soon, soon, soon, soon, soon, soon.
Starting point is 00:10:59 The little guy for coffee foaming that I use for a hundred different things. Anyways, my name is Jack O'Brien, aka I took a bye, I took a bite for you of you and sucked your blood right through. My fangs are all hollow. That one, courtesy of embers and snarful on the Discord, in reference to the big question about Dracula teeth,
Starting point is 00:11:27 are they hollow that, are they reverse snake teeth that suck your blood through them? Do they suck your blood? They had a second verse about going poo that I. I didn't have the heart to do to the people. But I'm thrilled to be joined, as always, by my co-host, Mr. Miles Gray. Miles Gray, aka the Lord of Lancashem, aka the Oracle of Delco. Yo, it's me, aka. It's the Oracle.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Miles of Graveyard. Yo, I'm here. Okay, shout out E. coli, Cherry, and Paul G. Dementa for that one for those two. Fantastic, A.K.A. God damn, the Oracle of Delco is so good. I saw that in the Discord. I immediately had to tell you.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I know, you told me like a kid, you're like, dude, did you see you said? I was like, what? A new AKA dropped that I think should be a permanent fixture. Oracle. That has to be like some sports radio guy, right? Right. Is that too highbrow for people? Might be.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Might be. This might just be your perfect sweet spot. They're like, he ain't even from here. Miles were thrilled to be joined in our third seat by a hilarious comedian, one of our favorite guests on TDZ, a resident Dolly Parton expert, disciple, evangelist. You can catch her on stage next week at Don't Tell Comedy in Nashville. Other stages coming up soon.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Go check her dates. Please welcome back to the show. It's Lydia Popovins. Lydia! Yes, I'm here. Hello, boys. It's good to see you both. It's great to see you.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Great to see you in your final incarnation of airport renameer God. I know. Top boss of Dolly Parton fans. I dare you. I dare you to say, so you like Dolly Parton? I don't know. I renamed an airport after. Did you like Dolly Parton?
Starting point is 00:13:23 Actually, how do you like Dolly Parton? Do you have a shirt? I'm terrified. You get that shirt from Walmart? Cool shirt. I'm terrified for the Dolly fans who are going to come across you thinking like, oh, yeah, you like Dolly Parton? You're like, do I, what? Do what?
Starting point is 00:13:35 Literally. What the fuck did you just say to me? say to me, bro, you don't like Dolly Parton like I like Dolly Byrd. You have no clue. And it is a competition. A lot of people will say it's not a, it is a competition. It is for that kind of shit. For like a fandom when you can when you can say I did that, that's, you definitely hang
Starting point is 00:13:53 your hat on that one. Yeah. For sure. And I also get to say like she for sure knew who I was. Like I had speculated for some time. But clips resurfaced of her talking about our petition. And I was like, oh, then she for sure knows who I am. She's a thousand percent.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Isn't that beautiful? I thought it was a joke. The person is a comedian and I was like, oh, she knows who I am. That means I am on the list. The person is like, you were in her brain, fool. Wow. Which is honestly, all I ever wanted to be, achieved it. She knew I loved her that much, whether or not I was on a list that said, you know, sort of okay, cool or like watch closely.
Starting point is 00:14:29 You know what I mean? I don't know which list I was on. She was aware of you and so was her security too. Right. Right? But I think I was on the good list because I showed up in so many places that I should not have been. Wait, what? Like Amy Miller? Like at her house? Yeah, right now. Actually, never went. Have never drove past her house because I know that that's too much. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, that's too much. Also, I've seen her enough. I don't need to be in her personal space. I don't want any people come and buy to my house.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Also, I broke in once when she was on tour. It's pretty boring in there. Oh, it's weird. Yeah, like, you know, never like collected a loose wig hair. You know what I mean? No dolly droppings were ever collected and preserved. That's what they call them. That's the official word. Like loose wig hairs or dolly droppings? Well, most of the time it's in reference to like loose rhinestones where she's been somewhere and they find like rhinestones on the ground or like a wig hair. Usually a rhinestone or a sequent. Her team lovingly refers to them as dolly droppings.
Starting point is 00:15:23 She would actually be really easy to track. Right. She's sparkled up. She leaves a trail of sparkles. Blonde hair. Yeah. Maybe a press on nail or something. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:15:33 Only people that leave more detritus is like just. a room full of drag queens after a drag brunch. Like if you're in a comedy club and it's like a Saturday night, you know what I mean? You're like, what's all this glitter? And you're like, oh, drag brunch. Yes. Were they doing bingo?
Starting point is 00:15:44 Yes, it was bingo brunch. Yes, it was. Yes, it was. Yeah, exactly. But no, truly. Get all Sherlock Holmes on their ass. Love the dolly part. How was drag brunch?
Starting point is 00:15:53 Yeah. Yeah. You're tasting the sequence. Yeah. Yes. This is a drag brunch. This is a, is this an ostrich feather? No, no.
Starting point is 00:16:01 This is a chicken feather and waffle. Yes. Chicken feather and waffle. Yes. Yes. Lydia, we're thrilled to have you here. We're going to get to know you a little bit better in a moment. First, we're going to tell the listeners a couple of things that we're talking about.
Starting point is 00:16:13 We're going to check in on Kimberly Guilfoyle. So I, out of self-preservation, was not keeping up with the whereabouts of Kimberly or the love life of Donald Trump Jr. And when I found out that Donald Trump Jr. was getting married, I assumed it was to Kimberly Guilfoyle like earlier this year. I was like, oh, those kids finally made it work. But I guess they broke up a while ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And anyways, she's still in the crew, though. She's still in some house. Which is odd. I thought she would just be completely kicked out. In the rotation. Yeah. Well, guess what? She knows too much, I think, would be my guess what.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Anyways, we're going to talk about what she's been up to because she, no good, it turns out. She is Gifter City, number one resident. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about the reviews are starting to roll in for, you can see everything, which is, This is probably the most we've talked about a movie before it came out in a long time, maybe ever on this show. With this kind of excitement, I'm trying to think. It's, yeah, been a minute. Others have come close, but not like this.
Starting point is 00:17:16 This is the Nathan Fielder documentary that comes out next week. The reviews have started rolling in, and it's one of those situations where you really need to go to Metacritic. Like, yes, you can get a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Many films have. But that just means that 100% of movies thought you were a 60% or better. essentially, that you were a C-plus or better. And so go over to Metacritic, and you will see that it is at a 98 on Metacritic with 15 reviews in, which is pretty wild.
Starting point is 00:17:47 And people are like, it breaks the form of documentary filmmaking and my brain. Like, people are really effusive. Anyways, I just want to check in with where Elizabeth Holmes is in all this. And we have some new information about how the film came to be. It was actually her idea. So she recruited Nathan Fielder. So we'll find out what legwork, what research she did to make that decision. All of that, plenty more.
Starting point is 00:18:16 But first, Lydia, we do like to ask our guest, what is something from your search history that's revealing about who you are? Oof. Right now, that search history just says points to Japan. I'm trying to plan a trip to Japan. And much like the Gen Xer than I am, I've got like 800. hundred thousand points. And I'm trying to figure out how to get two people lying flat all the way to Japan. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:18:41 With the least amount of money. And it is proving harder than you'd think. I'm like, I got more points than God over here. I know. I can't get an effin flight with the F. That's your Gen X retirement plan, though. Don't touch those points. How are you going to live off them?
Starting point is 00:18:55 You got to live off those points. Be careful. No, man. I've run all my shit through AMX. These points is like, it's like monopoly money. Let's go. I've been hoarding these. You know, you've got to look up.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Well, you're not going to find like a direct, right, from Tennessee. So what are you going to do, fly to California and then take off from California? That's kind of what I'm thinking. So then you take... I've been looking through Chicago, but no, but Seattle and Los Angeles and San Francisco. I've been the three cities. That's what you're going to get the cheapest one. And look, you're not going to get, look, if you go lie flat on United Delta or whatever,
Starting point is 00:19:26 you're talking near $10,000, I'd imagine, you go find Zip Air, the budget airline that, Japan Airlines has, their lif flat seats are like a thousand bucks and you just kind of, you can lie flat. It's like less amenities, but it's like the most accessible lie flat seat to Japan.
Starting point is 00:19:46 And then what I'm saying is save your points so that you can buy a bunch of shit when you're in Japan. Zipair just sounds like a fancy person saying zipper to me. Zipal. That just sounds like someone's going to zip timey to like a board. No, your zip hail is down.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Just file me like it's, CD into the plane. You know what I mean? I'm like filed under P and then they just fucking push me out. But, ah man, I'm a big old bitch and I like to, I like to stretch out. I'm also a fancy bitch. So I want all, I want all the stuff.
Starting point is 00:20:18 You know what I mean? I want, I want the Monsony, you know, little eye patch. I want, I want all the things. I want, I don't even drink anymore, but I'm like, pour a a glass of champagne just so I could look at it, take two tips and give it back to you. This is gone off. This is trash. It's off. You know what I mean? I want, I don't
Starting point is 00:20:34 know if they do it anymore, but like on United, they used to give you like a fucking ice cream Sunday bar. You know what I mean? I want, I like the service. I want to be draped in luxury. I'm trying to figure out how to get myself on the ANA, like the good place. Like, that's what I'm, I'm really, really after. Then you got to go to LA or San Francisco. Keep Googling, you know. Flying to Haneda, flying to Haneda Airport. You know, that's the quickest way into Tokyo. Yeah. Well, and I'm trying to get to Osaka, too, but, you know, we'll see. I'm, I'm open to go to to either. take the truth.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Either. Holler at me. You know what I mean? I got plenty of those nose from Japan. What is something you think is underrated? Underrated, absolutely. I've experienced this in real time
Starting point is 00:21:16 this year and that is taking a hard risk and leaning into something you are extremely passionate about. Obviously, the Dolly Parton situation, you know, renaming that airport was a big risk. Like, creating that petition
Starting point is 00:21:30 and putting that online was basically signaling to the world that I was mentally unwholesome. well, right? And I stood on two feet with it. You know what I mean? As the kids say, I stood on business. You know what I mean? I stood on business and I said it and it came back around and it ended up being something that was so much more than I ever managed it being. You know what I mean? And able to bring joy and prosperity to people and be able to light up the light and be able to give basically a little, a rhinestone on her legacy was incredible. And that wouldn't have happened if I wouldn't have taken a wild risk and if I didn't lean in hard into something I was passionate about. And I feel like so frequently, we're so scared to, like, be passionate about anything. You know, everyone's very nonchalant. Nobody wants to like anything too much.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Be shalant. Yeah. Go hard. Go hard on your obsessions. Like some shit hard. Yeah. If that's what you're into, get into it. Who cares?
Starting point is 00:22:21 Yeah. Like, really, really love it hard. You know what I mean? Why not? Lydia, what's going to cost you? Do you mind have asked you question? How tall are you? I'm 5'9.
Starting point is 00:22:29 That's crazy because when you stand on business, you're seven feet tall. Wow. Exactly. And I can't believe it. That's what I'm talking about. That's, people need to know that, okay? 10 toes down. Which does make flying very uncomfortable, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:22:41 You're going to stop standing on business. She doesn't stand on business. She stands on business class. She lays down in business class. I lay down on business class. Okay, that's how that works. But yeah, that's so true. We're in such an era where, like, cringe is like the word of the day and younger people
Starting point is 00:22:59 are so, so risk averse and not willing to just like, open up to falling into whatever their desire is and to really go full force with it. And it's just too. I just saw a clip of Charlie the Creator talking about this where he's like, I see a lot of younger artists like, they put out a new song and then they just post it once.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And then they're done because they don't want to make it look like. He's like, bro, how much time did you put into that song to only post it once? Like, let people know that you put time into some shit. I mean, it's just whatever. It's not that big a deal. It's just whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Just my, you know. Okay. Well, then that's the result you're going to get. It's just like the sounds that God put in my heart. Yeah. But yeah, man, you have to be proud of something that you do, right? Like, get out there, be proud of it. Say whatever it is that if it's, you know, something you say.
Starting point is 00:23:48 I mean, obviously, if you, I mean, if you're passionate about some wild shit, like, that's a different story. But hey, go off. Be passionate, I guess, you know. Just be careful because there will be people who will also stand on business in opposition to you. And then it might get a little dicey. Yeah. But with Dolly, like, I was a little worried. I was like, God, I hope nobody takes this the wrong way.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Like, I hope nobody takes this and thinks that I'm trying to do this to, like, go viral for me or to be, like, I was really concerned about, like, offending her family. You know what I mean? Because I didn't want anybody to think that I was trying to take advantage of her death and was really in my head about it. And then I had to, like, talk to a couple people and they just reminded me like, no, man, this is really good. Like, this is Dolly. And it came through in the comments. Like, I was waiting, like, waiting for something bad to happen in the case. comments and like literally all of the comments were positive there was only like five or six
Starting point is 00:24:38 comments on every single post in total after like over a million views there was like five negative comments right she was the one that is just everybody yeah everybody no matter who was just like yeah we we fuck with dolly we love her so much and then there one of the most instructive parts of doing the dolly research was that like there was a moment when a right wing grifter on like one of those fucked up sites, like, got, decided to write an article that was like, why Dolly Parton is actually like a fucked up person. And like, that article lasted a day and a half on the internet. And then the person, like, wrote an apology letter like they had committed murder. Yeah. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Came out. I was like, I'm so sorry. I actually love Dolly Parton. This was not the right way to make this point. Right. It's funny too. But the guy, that person composed about you, genetics and racism and like nobody's to say anything. Third rail, don't fuck with Dolly Parton. Yeah. No, I laughed because like there was like one string of comments from some lonely bot that was like about in reference to what I looked like. And it was like, she's over 175 pounds. And I was like, yeah, 289 pounds.
Starting point is 00:25:51 What do you? Of course. You know, and then it was like just other comments of like, oh, you know, she's so fat, she's going to die early. And then I just had fun with it because like I'm so confident in who I am. Like that shit doesn't bother me. So I just was like having so much fun. I was like, yeah, like, let's hope I die early.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Like being a woman on this planet is exhausting. Like I just, you know, it was like every time they posted something and then people started seeing it and like people fucking pounced on that person and then the comments like magically disappeared, you know? But it was so funny to me that I was like, wow, even as a fat woman, like literally talking about the most beloved thing in the world, there's always going to be at least one fucking loser. Yeah. One fucking loser that's like, but she's fat. Yeah. She's fat, though.
Starting point is 00:26:34 I was like, oh, my God. I better way in here. Yeah, all the more to fucking eat you with my guy. Like, what are you doing with it? All right. Like, I am the big bad wolf. I will come over, stand on my business, seven feet fall, and fucking shit on your face. Like, yeah, I'm disgusting.
Starting point is 00:26:51 You know? Yeah, exactly. It was so funny to me. But yeah, man, stand up. Be passionate. Don't worry about being cringe. To yourself and be passionate about the thing that matters to you. What is something you think is overrated?
Starting point is 00:27:03 Oof, this one hurts my heart a little bit to say out loud, but I've got to be real. Paisley Park. Oh. Paisley Park, home of Prince. Wow, what happened? Overrated. I love Prince. Like, even though he's problematic, I still adore Prince.
Starting point is 00:27:21 I think that he was a musical genius. I think he was an eclectic weirdo. I think that he made so many fascinating choices, you know, the way that he handled his music sort of contracts and everything in the late 90s and early 2000s is just gangster as hell to me. And I've always loved him. And I recently went to Minneapolis to go visit Paisley Park and to see Minneapolis I'd never been to that city. And I wanted to check it out. And Paisley Park was just like such a letdown.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Like it's a huge gigantic space and they let you into like a quarter of it. And it's like you're highly corralled. They're like, no, no, no, stand over here. Like if you stand one toe over a line, they're like, no, no, no, you have to stand inside this line. Like our tour guides were so obsessed with us staying in places that I was like, yo, is Prince alive? Is he here watching us? Like, is this why we can't go places?
Starting point is 00:28:09 Because this bull was up here. Literally, like, and all the stories they told were like really hollow. And like, it just was like a bunch of weird diorama rooms that looked like a teenager. Like sterilized, sanitized version of, yeah. You just didn't, especially in comparison to Dolly, who like has curated exhibits and things, but they feel so personal and real. And all of this stuff was just kind of like, hey, this is where Prince lived.
Starting point is 00:28:35 And I'm like, Prince lived like this. Right. Yeah, it's probably the difference between you lived in a museum. Well, I think, like, that's the difference between Dolly and Prince just as artists. Like, Dolly was so much more out there and open about everything. Prince was fucking in the shadows mystery person. Yes. So I'm sure when they pass away, then everyone's like, what do we, how do we do this?
Starting point is 00:28:56 Like, because you know with Dolly, they're like, bro, Dolly's trying to let. everybody know who she was, what she was about, what her life was like. And then I'm sure when they're looking at Prince's estate, they're like, I feel like he would want us to throw people off the center. We really want your own Disneyland while you are still alive. Yeah, yeah, yeah. My biggest beef was like, this man dressed his ass off. He famously had a tailor shop. And they basically show it. They're like, see up there, see those windows, that's where his tailor shop is. And you're like, so can we go up there? Yeah. And like, they don't take you up there. They just show it to you. And like, they show you outfits that are set up.
Starting point is 00:29:28 but I'm like, show me the road. I want to see the scale of what it looked like to make these clothes. Like, right. It's like doing a dolly tour and they're like, and behind that nondescript office door is the wig vault. Correct. Moving on? No.
Starting point is 00:29:44 No, it's not relevant. It was just, it was underwhelming. It was like $90. Like, I just, it was really expensive and it just was not, like, I did not leave filled with Prince Joy and love. I left a little description. gruntled and like highly like literally it was like the conspiracy theorist in me was like oh yo this dude's alive he's a this is part of a larger experiment like i have like weird i like
Starting point is 00:30:09 came out of there feeling super weird that or i'm like prince was a warlock and like literally like jumped into another body and is there still like i don't know man it was weird vibes it was very weird vibes in the building too like like an intangible feeling i can't really i think we're forced to draw those conclusions if that you know based on what you've told me that they were, that the tour sucked. I think we have to assume that what they're covering is that there are two bodies back there and one of them has Prince of Spirit. You know what it is?
Starting point is 00:30:40 I'm looking at the website right now. It's paywalled, basically. There's three versions of the tour you can take, which is crazy. Like, he's like, you can get the broke boy experience. Or you can go up another level up and be able to see the studio areas. Or you can go another level up and see these. other record. It's like crazy that you're just like, oh, to actually see the places where there was like an audio playback session you can listen to in one of the studios you record it. It's like,
Starting point is 00:31:07 well, you got, you got 200 bucks for that. Otherwise, I'll direct you to them. You know how museums work. Exactly. And the deal is, you can go to museums and like see cool shit for like cheap. For pretty reasonable. And the thing is, is you get to go to that studio. So I already saw it. They just let you hang out there longer and then play you some music. Because I talk to people who like did the like expensive of the tour. And they were only out like 30 minutes after us and we were still like taking pictures outside. And I was like, so was it worth it? And they were like, no. No, they just didn't take us out right away. Yeah. Yeah. The only thing that was pretty awesome is like you have to like
Starting point is 00:31:42 reserve everything in advance. Like you can't just roll up. You know what I mean? Like you have to really like reserve things in advance. And so it was me and my three friends and then an entire group full of 60 year old Chicago house DJs that were like there on a tour like for some event. So, like, it was just, like, literally a bus full of, like, rad older black people from Chicago that were having a time. Like, that's what made our tour fun is because these people were just having a time. Yeah, they made it a good time rather than, like, the blank rooms you were looking and like, and this is, this is an outfit he wore. I also like to just reading the things like, they have like this whole thing. It's like, you can't have no cell phones, cameras,
Starting point is 00:32:24 smart glasses, any recording. It's all being those bags. Yeah. Yeah. They lock. They lock. it up. And so I thought we were going to see cool shit. And then I was like, oh, you don't want people to know how much this sucks. Or they don't want, like that. People don't know how much Prince has been transported into another human body. Exactly. Well, and that's why I'm like, he famously didn't leave a will. Who's charges the state? Where this money going? What are we funding? Hey. Don't worry about it.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Don't worry about it. You got, you got 200 bucks to see this room? Come in. We'll play you this dusty ass recording that was probably on Limewire in 2003. My last will and testament is this. guitar solo. Right. I still do regret not going to a party there. You know,
Starting point is 00:33:06 when he's having all those parties, I wish I would have, I should have done it then. It's my fault for later. Just crash, yeah. Could have been invited. All right. Well, we're going to take a quick break.
Starting point is 00:33:15 We're going to come back. We're going to talk about Kimberly Gilfoyle. We'll be right back. What a tease going into the break. They all knew that I did the scary boogie stuff. And they said, maybe she'll find out where this girl is.
Starting point is 00:35:20 I saw him violent. Backhanded him. And that's exactly what made us all think he had something to do with him. The clock is ticking down in the woods are calling. There are a lot of demons in Putnam County. but I've met the devil and he's real. I'm Paul Solitarev, and this is Season 2 of The Devil's Quarry. And we pull apart the story behind the image. And we do this by digging through the BBC's vast archive. We're talking iconic moments in broadcast history. I'm not just a boxer. I'm educating. I can talk all week on millions of subjects.
Starting point is 00:36:34 And forgotten interviews that change how we see these giants of our culture. Well, if changing the system from the ground up is revolution, Then I'm revolutionary. We're here for the messy, the brilliant, the human version of our heroes. I mean, when I go on stage, I like to dress the sluggies possible because it makes me dance better for some reason. I'm Emmanuel Jochi. I'm Kai Wright.
Starting point is 00:36:56 And this is Big Lives. Listen to Big Lives on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get podcasts. Hey, everybody. I'm Chuck Bryan at The Stuff You Should Know podcast. And I'm Adam Pranica of the Greatest Generation and Greatest Trek. We decided to start a golf comedy podcast because we're both big golf lovers, and we wanted to spread that joy, and it's called three-putt bogey. It's coming from the perspective of golfers who are sometimes good enough to hit two great shots in a row, but almost never good enough to hit three.
Starting point is 00:37:30 And a three-putt bogey is kind of the purest expression of that. Every golfer knows what that's like. Obviously, we're going to talk a lot about the game of golf, how absurd it is and how fun it is, and how vexing and frustrating. But more than anything, just how much we love. love the greatest game in the world. We love it anyway. We're putting these out every Friday morning for your weekend golf routine.
Starting point is 00:37:50 This is a show about sharing our experiences on the golf course and how absurd and funny they can be. And that's what three putt bogey is. It's three putt bogey, everybody, out every Friday. You can listen to it now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And we're back. We're back. And we're back. Daly Beloved.
Starting point is 00:38:18 We're back. We are here to talk about Kimberly Gillfoyle. Yeah. That's a, look, they, they waded through the Dolly Parton and the prints to get to the person that they really want to hear about. Exactly. I am fascinated by Kimberly Gilfoyle, not fascinated enough to know whether she was marrying Donald Trump Jr. or not. But fascinated because she has a starring role in a clip that I am convinced is going to be playing in museums of the future, which is the backstage. clip at January 6th when they're all just like feeling themselves as the January
Starting point is 00:38:54 the 6th riots are happening and she like they're they're playing Gloria Gloria and Donald Trump is just like watching the clips and like feeling himself and then you like cut away to her and she's like dancing in a way that suggests she's like on drugs so like she's like treating January the 6th. like a fucking rave. Yeah, she was in the goby tent at Coachella, bro. Yeah. Just doing a fun little dance at January the 6th.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Anyways, she was not the person who married Donald Trump Jr. That's Bettina Anderson, Jack. Sure. With that wonderful wedding paid for by Russian oligarch. I will commit her to memory when she does a cool dance backstage at a historical moment. But Kimberly Gilfoyle also was Gavin Newsom's ex-ex. Such a run. I lived in San Francisco
Starting point is 00:39:53 when they got married and my roommate worked at a club that Gavin Newson owned that they had the wedding after party at. Wow. And I just remember
Starting point is 00:40:02 she like worked the party and it went to like five in the morning and she just was like regaling me the stories of like cocaine being offered and like people being drunk and I guess like she walked in
Starting point is 00:40:09 and like this skimpiest like basically it was of the era but like a slip dress like those that basically just looked like a nighty. She just had this like slip dress I guess she was just fucking drunk. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:22 Like everywhere, like a nip slip in, like stuff. She's like, it was the wildest shit I've ever seen. It's just like the upper leshawns of San Francisco just letting it all hang out. She's like Forrest Gump, man. If you wrote all these stories down, she's been there, done that, been everywhere, seen everything. And that noticed shit. Yeah. This is top tier hoeing.
Starting point is 00:40:43 She's doing great. She got basically broken up with by Don Jr. right after the 2024 election. And she was so devastated that apparently it was reported that it was after 2020. So was that recent. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was like, oh, we're going back to the White House? He's like, I'm off this, babe.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Yeah. Hey, things are kind of looking up for me. I can marry someone named Bettina now. That's where I'm at. And apparently she was so, like, devastated that Donald, like President Donald Trump was like, ah, well, let's give her a consolation prize. She's kind of broken up about this and offered her the Greek ambassadorship. Shout out.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Apparently was a sorry my son broke up with you, but you also, you've been a loyal soldier. How about you just live in Mekonos or something? That seems like a pretty great tradeoff for her. Yeah. I mean, truly. God damn. Truly. But yeah, so she made very little news after like the appointment to her
Starting point is 00:41:43 ambassadorship sort of was public. But it turns out during that confirmation hearing, a lot was going on. For starters, she was in huge credit card debt with American Express and begged a donor and MAGA ally friend to bail her out. These are from like signal texts that the Wall Street Journal got their hands on. You could just send it here. This is Kim, this is Gilfoyle talking to like a donor.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Herself. Yeah. She doesn't get people doing this, doing her dirt for her. Herself. Herself typing with her own gilfoil fingers. Yep. her gilthing geese. She said, you could just send it here. It won't show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express. That's all that will show.
Starting point is 00:42:24 This is on July 3rd to a man named Eric Dieter's. Please. And I have you down as one of my special guests for my hearing in D.C. on Wednesday. I can get you in for a meeting on the matter we discussed. Please get back to me ASAP. Goes on. No, no response. She thinks she's smooth with it, but also she's like, and it won't even show up in a written message that's all that.
Starting point is 00:42:46 That's all that will show. And that's how we can do our crime. Apparently there was a thing where he was talking about this guy, Eric Duters was talking about his wife being able to see stuff. And I think that was her solution. It's like, it's not even look like you gave me money. Just like, do it. Just pay the bill directly to American Express.
Starting point is 00:43:00 That'll help. Then just again, she's still hitting him up. Honey, please, I need you to get this done for me today. Yeah. I'm going to say his wife isn't going to love that. Yeah. No, I mean, she's literally doing her best only fans chat activity. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:43:16 This is straight up like an only fan's girl chat activity. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Hey, hey, just send me this money today. No one will ever know. Don't know. I love you. Honey. Do you check out my Amazon wish list?
Starting point is 00:43:28 Can you get me some of those things? Yeah, just send me something. I've got pictures of feet right here. I've got these feet right here. I can send them to you. But I just can't until you. I just can't. Until that payment goes through. I have to eat.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Apparently, Adidas also claimed that while this is all going on, Gilfoyle kept being like, I'm going to be your person inside the administration. Quote, I will be your Trump ride or die forever and ever. Like the use of ride just to get his mind in the right place. Right. Also turns out, listen. She never got that money.
Starting point is 00:43:58 But this is where it gets nice and sloppy. Eric Dieters, you're like, have we heard that name? We talked about him about a month ago. He's the guy from Kentucky who had that failed America Fest where Kimberly Gilfoyle was one of the speakers. Right. Along with Kid Rock and Dog the Bounty Hunter. Dog the.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Dog the. His lower third was bounty hunter. It was just dog the balance. I'm friendly with him. So I actually just call him dog the. And he was the one we were talking about at the time. He's like he didn't sell any tickets. He had to cancel it and accused all his friends of being poor and not giving him
Starting point is 00:44:38 and he has like real Tim Robinson character energy where he just like he does takes a big swing and then just starts. confessing immediately to be like, I fucked up so bad. And all my friend's been trained, we have so dumb. I should have lied. Fuck. So it's that,
Starting point is 00:44:54 it's that Eric Dieter's, okay? And he was willing to help because Kim Gilfoyle promised him special treatment from the administration to deal with a tax issue, although he contends it was for something completely different, which we'll get into. So he's also not a really smart guy.
Starting point is 00:45:11 He's not good at crime. He's not good at this. He's not good at this. He's not good. at this whole quid pro quo thing that Washington runs on. And like it's just the thing you have to understand, all right? Going into this, Eric, the thing you got to understand is it's an unspoken quid pro quo. And he's like, you lost me at quid.
Starting point is 00:45:31 I don't know what that means. I need you to spell pro. Yeah. Is it P.R? Wait, oh, so you mean like. Paro, par pro. Let me see if I got this right, Kim. So if I give you this 100K, then that means you'll help me evasive.
Starting point is 00:45:45 some tax charges. Let's not write that. Damn it. So these are some of the messages that we also found between Eric Dieter's and Kimberly Gilfoyle because he's so bad at keeping it low. Quote, Eric, I really wish you would stop papering all these things. It's really dangerous. And you could simply just call me on Signal.
Starting point is 00:46:06 Then she was saying, apparently he also was like. To which he presumably responded, okay, I'll call you on Signal to describe description of My tax evasion. So then he also C-Ced one of her producers from her podcast about this deal. And then she goes on, quote, it's unbelievable when we have a private arrangement with you that you would now see-see a producer talking about money. Do not say we have any arrangement.
Starting point is 00:46:33 What a nightmare. You'll literally cost me my ambassadorship. Stop writing. But then she's writing this. She's writing too. I was going to say. I was like, hey, Kim, why? Why don't you call his ass on signal, you dumb bitch?
Starting point is 00:46:46 And be like, bro, you got to be what? You'll never follow your own advice. And so that was kind of the fallout. Ben, Marco Rubio, as Secretary of State, was recently asked, like, hey, this you? This people under the State Department? This is how y'all rock? And he's like, I just kind of like tried to just shrug it off. But you'll never guess who is on TV right now getting his side of the story out.
Starting point is 00:47:10 messy-ass Eric Dieter's. This dude first went on the bulwark, which is like a conservative, like sort of never-trumper outlet to get his version of events out. And I just want to play this like, he's a, we're going to hear multiple times this guy talk about what's going on and how basically he was wronged. Because what we've also found out was he's the one that leaked the story because the people in the Trump administration were ghosting him about this arrangement. So this is one of his first appearances to the Bull Works podcast where he's just straight out being like, yeah, I mean, this is what it was supposed to happen, as if like he's going to the Better Business Bureau or something about like some kind of bunk transaction.
Starting point is 00:47:55 But here's Eric Dieter's in his own words. I approached Kimberly Gilfoyle about helping me draw attention to these Durrani victims. And I told her when the case settled, I'd give her a million bucks, but she's got to help me. Well, she didn't do squat. And then right before her confirmation hearing, she asked me for $100,000 to pay off her American Express. And I was kind of taken back about that. But she's so pushy.
Starting point is 00:48:22 I mean, Kimberly Gilfoyle is wicked. Wow. He's just out of your telling on himself. He's talking about this. He looks like a toe. Yeah. He's talking. He looks like one of those weird masks that people wear to look like a bald white guy.
Starting point is 00:48:37 when you're like, dude, just put this whole latex hood on and you're going to look like a non-descript, vague, bald white man. That's kind of what his actual skin looks like. But he keeps referencing this Dr. Durrani thing because what was going on was that like he was representing some people that had some medical claims against a doctor who fled to Pakistan to get away from the, from his version is he fled to Pakistan with the help of the insurance company that was like giving insurance for his medical practice. and he was trying to get him extradited from Pakistan so he could basically get money from this lawsuit
Starting point is 00:49:11 and shit went left because then he started threatening the insurance company like death threats according to their CEO and he's like no no no they got this all wrong that's not what's going on at all um so i'm also going to play this other clip then he went on fucking ms nbccc or not msnbc ms now rather to get his story on So he was going everywhere to anyone that would listen to him. So why not go to Lib Central and also hopefully get your side of the story out? And this one, he really gets like fully just open mouth talking about it. Yeah, yeah. It's awkward pro quo.
Starting point is 00:49:49 So a phrase that I just learned. You believe that you were paying her and that's what you would get in response. Well, I got to stress this, okay. Medical protective was their insurance company. and it was our allegation that medical protective helped get Durrani out of country. I wanted an investigation of medical protectives role in his flight, okay? She ambushed me out of the blue with this $200,000 American Express offer. And she offered me to be her ride and die forever if I did this.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Right and that. I mean, I guess for them it is right and die. do it. But the reason why I did not do it is I didn't have that money at the time. He's just like, he's basically like, yeah, man, I would have totally given the money for this. It's funny to feel like, and I did not do that. And the reason why is because I was broke as hell. Yeah, otherwise I would have done crimes. It's funny too. I just want to play where he does literally say, it was a quid pro quo. A third of 2025, Kimberly Gilfoyle wrote to you on signal. I have been officially announced, announced to be the nominee to be the next ambassador
Starting point is 00:51:04 to Greece, which she now is, honey, please, I need you to get this done for me today with a prayer hand emoji. In your view, was this a quid pro quo? Oh, it absolutely was a quid pro quo because up to that point, he doesn't understand. He doesn't give a fuck. He's like, yeah, man, we had a deal. You're like, No, that's that's that's that's completely unethical and illegal what you're describing. It's not just like yeah, dude. Well, sure. Oh, quid pro quo. That's exactly what it was.
Starting point is 00:51:37 And I didn't get my pro quo. So I don't want to what's going on. So I need a refund on that quid. She just got me standing all quids. Yeah, exactly. I need that quo. She's quitting when I'm when I'm quoting. So what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:51:49 Yeah. This feels like it'd be a big deal if it was in like some less corrupt administration like, I don't know, the Nixon administration. Right. Right. He goes on to it. He also kind of looks like that Muppet, like the Eagle Muppet. Do you know what I mean? Sam Eagle.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Yeah, he's also just wearing a T-shirt on... Just a Henley. Just like a... Hey, same one he was wearing in the bulwark appearance. He's doing press, baby? Yeah. He goes on and basically then get so angry. He's like, she's a dang grifter.
Starting point is 00:52:18 Like, he's so outraged. Like, he thinks that the, that he has like the moral high ground here for some reason, the way he's talking. Okay. Now, relative to your question, Kimberly Gilfoyle is a grifter. Kimberly Gilfoyle, I have no doubt, has done this to more than me. She's doing it right now in Greece. I know Cory Lewandowski did this stuff. I know Christy Knoem did this stuff.
Starting point is 00:52:43 I have no personal knowledge of anybody else in the Trump administration being involved with this stuff. But I have no doubts that Kimberly Gilfoy and me, and I can't stress this enough. Anyway, he goes on and on. Just ranting. Like sometimes it's like you fucked with the wrong guy. You know, this guy's smart and he's capable and he's skilled and like you fight. This is like you fucked with the wrong guy. He is a dumb, blunt instrument who is just going to be like,
Starting point is 00:53:13 ah, give me the money. Right, right, right. Yeah. He's, look, he's doing his best. Just be on news trying to figure things out in real time. Because it also reeks of like a guy who's trying to get some kind of hush payment too. Oh, yeah. Because it sounds like he was really counting on suing this doctor to get a ton of money.
Starting point is 00:53:34 And because he's gone, he was going as far as threatening the medical insurance company that was covering or that who he, like the doctor was being covered by to try and get this guy to some kind of trial so he could get the money off the people he was representing. Then goes to Kimberly Gilfoyle. Then also when you hear about how that America. went completely fucking ass up because it was just poorly planned and lack of money and like, oh, this, like, we're watching one of these like sort of periphery maga, sort of like nouveau rich
Starting point is 00:54:03 figures completely flailing and now being like, all right, dude, I'm calling out fucking names, man. I need help. Yeah, but she's a grifter. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. She's a grifter. She's a grifter. Because she didn't give me what I want. Yeah, I've tried to grift my way out of Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:54:21 That's the way I am corrupt. Now, come on, man. Follow the story here. He's not understained. She's not following through. This is outrageous. But again, I think just also shows the mentality of these people, too, where, like, he really thinks this is some shit to be talking about out loud. Because he also apparently also said, like, he was willing to offer Kimberly Gilfoy a million dollars if he could get her, or if she could get him on Tucker Carlson to talk about this case with this doctor.
Starting point is 00:54:52 I'm already my eyes are glazing over about this case with this doctor. You're not getting anywhere with that brother. Yeah. I'm just telling you, man. It's also very Tim Robinson-esque where he's like, if I just get this one idea to work, man. Yeah. It's all the work.
Starting point is 00:55:07 It's like, dude, you got to let go. This guy doesn't even fucking live here. He's like, oh, damn it, man. We need you to buy all the wigs or it's no deal. Yeah, exactly. These are stanzo brands, man. Let's take a quick break. We'll come right back and we will talk.

It's the one you're thinking about, trust me. Or maybe we'll talk about music and what's happening in the underground or drama and music or TV shows or the Met Gala

It's a place where everyone can hang out, anyone. Wherever you're from, whatever you're like, you're welcome. Listen out of character from Will Ferrell's Big Money

If anyone wanted to commit a murder, up here would be the greatest place in the world to hide the body. But no one will find it. He acted friendly. He talked friendly. He sounded friendly. They all knew that I did the scary boogie stuff. And I said, maybe she'll find out where this girl is.
Starting point is 00:57:26 I saw him violent. Backhanded a bow. And that's exactly what made us all things. think he had something to do with him. The clock is ticking down and the woods are calling. There are a lot of demons in Putnam County, but I've met the devil, and he's real. I'm Paul Solitara and this is season two of the devil's quarry. Listen to the devil's quarry season two on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

People like Jane Fonda, George Michael, Richard Pryor. And we pull apart the story behind the image. And we do this by digging through the BBC's vast archive. We're talking iconic moments in broadcast history. I'm not just a boxer.
Starting point is 00:58:37 I'm educating. I can talk all week on millions of subjects. And forgotten interviews that change how we see these giants of our culture. Well, if changing the system from the ground up is revolutionary, then I'm revolutionary. We're here for the messy, the brilliant, the human version of our heroes. I mean, when I go on stage, I like to dress the sluggies possible because it makes me dance better for some reason. I'm Emmanuel Jochi. I'm Kai Wright.
Starting point is 00:59:03 And this is Big Lives. Listen to Big Lives on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get podcasts. Hey, everybody. I'm Chuck Bryan at The Stuff You Should Know podcast. And I'm Adam Pranika of The Greatest Generation and Greatest Trek. We decided to start a golf comedy podcast because we're both big golf lovers, and we wanted to spread that joy, and it's called Three Put Bogie. It's coming from the perspective of golfers who are sometimes good enough to hit two great shots in a row, but almost never good enough to hit three.
Starting point is 00:59:37 The three-putt-bogie is kind of the purest expression of that. Every golfer knows what that's like. Obviously, we're going to talk a lot about the game of golf, how absurd it is and how fun it is and how vexing and frustrating. But more than anything, just how much we love the greatest game in the world. We love it anyway. We're putting these out every Friday morning for your weekend golf routine. This is a show about sharing our experiences on the golf course and how absurd and funny they can be.
Starting point is 01:00:03 And that's what Three Put Bogey is. Is Three Put Boogie, everybody out every Friday? You can listen to it now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And we're back. Lydia, are you excited about this film? This Nathan Fielder? You can see everything? You know what?
Starting point is 01:00:26 I'm not a big documentary person. I like to get fired up afterwards. So maybe after we talk about it, I will be fired up for it. Have you seen the trailer at all for it? I have not. Oh, that's why. That's why. You've been busy.
Starting point is 01:00:37 Yeah, I've been busy. I've been in Dolly Parton Land. I truly feel like I'm behind on the internet. because my algorithm, thank Dolly, is still half Dolly. But yeah, I haven't been getting a lot of regular content.
Starting point is 01:00:49 Cram the last two months of the internet. I do. The trailer is incredible if people haven't seen it. I will watch it. I will take time on my own to make sure that I watch this. You know, Nathan Fielder
Starting point is 01:01:01 makes great kind of doc you-ish content, but like it involves him kind of manipulating people and putting the audience in a weird position. And then it's him versus this grifter, Elizabeth Holmes. And so the reviews say it's breaking new ground in the form of documentary.
Starting point is 01:01:23 They say it's very funny, very weird. She has apparently, Nathan Beholder, Fielder recently revealed, that Elizabeth Holmes hasn't actually seen the movie, which is weird because she's been actively promoting it on Twitter, just because old habits die hard in terms of hyping things before all. the evidence is in, which that's basically her whole deal. Yeah. But she, so I don't know, she, I think she thinks is going to be different than it actually is.
Starting point is 01:01:53 Yeah. Catherine asked, she has Twitter in jail. It does seem to be that she, she has Twitter in jail. Well, there's definitely like computer terminals you could access, like in that prison. They also have drugs in jail. And also her husband, too. Yeah, I'm like, you can get mediglasses in jail. You get anything you want, Jane. It's not as hard as you think it is. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:14 But yeah, I think a lot of it was her husband also by proxy tweeting on her behalf, I think is what one of the posts said. They also, her husband has not talked to Fielder in a while because he apparently, quote, started trying to exert a level of control over the process that made it very hard to engage with him. And it was uncomfortable for us and also 824 and everyone. So, like, one of the big questions that you have after watching the trailer and just, like, hearing about the premise is what were they thinking? Why would Elizabeth Holmes and her husband make a documentary with Nathan Fielder, who people don't usually come out of his documentaries, like, looking good? Apparently it was their idea. They, uh, so Holmes and Evans wanted a film that would give Holmes good PR. And they went to Fielder and Landt. Hans Oppenheim, and it sounds like they just didn't research either of them. The husband watched the first few minutes of Oppenheim's 2020 film Some Kind of Heaven, which is about a retirement home, and Holmes had merely seen a YouTube clip from Nathan for you. That's wild.
Starting point is 01:03:25 She saw a dumb Starbucks or something? She saw a dumb Starbucks. Yeah, I don't know. Sure. Who cares? Love the ego on these people, man. Do a fucking little bit. research. This guy's so like, obviously all of his stuff, like you said, it's very uncomfortable, right?
Starting point is 01:03:42 Like you walk into this world and it's very uncomfortable and it's very hard to watch. But then it's also funny because you're just an amazement that he's able to pull off some of the shit he's able to pull off. Right. So are they doing this because they think it's going to make her look so absurd? Like I'm really trying to wrap my head around like if you're, why you would want this person who obviously has no dedication to any subject other than himself. Right. In a good way. It's probably on some level, right? You go, these people don't make real documentaries. They do, like, kind of fun, weird stuff. Like, and we can probably, we can probably guide it on some level. Like, they may be completely underrated them. Because he, like, plays with the truth in weird ways.
Starting point is 01:04:24 And so does she. Maybe there was, like, an attraction there where she was just like, yeah. He seems like he's probably a sociopath. Like, that works for me. That's kind of game recognized game. devil knows their own kind of thing. Yeah. It's like, she's very hard to read, right?
Starting point is 01:04:42 Because, like, she, people are like, her voice is so ridiculous. Like, she lowered her voice in this way that's, like, obvious and, like, sounds ridiculous. And yet, like, it fooled everybody in Silicon Valley to the tune of, like, billions of dollars. So it's like, I don't know, man. Like, seems like it worked.
Starting point is 01:05:00 And there seems to be, I don't know, a weird method to their madness. But so what she appears to be, trying here. So she's promoting this documentary like it's good about her. Then she has like a field team who are promoting. It's a group called Free Elizabeth Holmes, which has been showing up to the you can see everything screenings with flyers and t-shirts. And that not only do they just believe like Elizabeth Holmes has served enough time, we should free her. The head of the group claims that he rebuilt Theranos technology from the ground up using.
Starting point is 01:05:36 trial exhibits and the patents and the blood testing machines tech is airtight. Oh, okay. They just like don't admit wrongdoing in any of this. They're like, no, we just, like, everybody's wrong. We actually did create the miracle technology. Does this guy who recreated it? Is he like a expert tech guy? What's his background and all of this?
Starting point is 01:06:03 No, it doesn't seem like it, Miles. I think he describes himself as a, oh yeah, he is a biochemist. Oh, sorry, a self-taught biochemist, the best kind of biochemist that you can have. That's my favorite. I don't know if you guys know this about me, but I am a self-taught radiologist. Oh. Right. Of the professions that you don't want to hear self-taught.
Starting point is 01:06:31 I'm sorry, you have x-ray machine? Yeah, yeah, it's decommissioned. Yeah. Well, it's actually just my eyes. I just look at you. I'm a self-taught airline pilot. I've seen the Denzel Washington movie flight. Yeah, so I know how to do cocaine and fly an airplane upside-out.
Starting point is 01:06:48 Yeah. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. This is also coinciding with her attempt to cozy up to Trump, following the news that she's being moved out of federal prison and into a Texas halfway house next summer. She shared a Trump post online. line with the caption, we are winning. So she, again, just strange bed felt where she's like Nathan Fielder on one side and Donald Trump on the other side. She's just on signal. Like, listen, honey, I need you to do this for me today. Right. Yeah. Yeah, right. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 01:07:19 Honey, I need that payment in my snap bar to bear hands, prayer hands, per hands, emoji. They, the group behind the Free Elizabeth Holmes movement is similarly Trumpy, included a super intelligence graphic for no reason, along with the White House logo, along with a bunch of AI-generated evidence proving that Theranos did no wrong. Wow. I mean, like, she's, I guess like what's her motivation, right? I guess on one part, she's like, okay, I can clear my name with this and then maybe control the conversation if I'm the one who's even ordering the documentary. Right. And yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:00 Then what? They think the damage has been done, Elizabeth, my sweet Elizabeth. I think it might have been done. She admits in the movie that she wants to launch a new and improved Theranos. So I think that's like essentially like what, because that is the vibe of the trailer where he's just like looking at her. He's like, you can't actually believe what you're saying. Like you can't actually believe that you, because she's like,
Starting point is 01:08:22 why would I, why would I deceive you? I have nothing to hide. And it's like, you're on record. a grifter, who we all know is a grifter, like, what, how does your brain work, essentially seems to be the main question here. She's basically trying to Nathan Fielder, Nathan Fielder. Could be. Like, that's the thing that's so interesting about her is she does it with such a straight
Starting point is 01:08:46 face that you're like, does she believe this, though? Yes. Am I forced to believe it too? Right. That's why I think it's what's so intriguing about the documentary, especially when you see the trailer, when you're like, oh, this is like immovable. object versus unstoppable force right now. But like they're coming from a completely different ends of the spectrum and you're like,
Starting point is 01:09:08 what the fuck happens? Because it's for the, in the thing that I think that's really jarring for me as somebody who's seen like pretty much all the stuff Nathan Fielder's made is that he genuinely looks confused and freaked out at certain points. And that's where I'm like, God, bro, if she got you on your fucking heels, like what the what is really going on? What is she up to? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:29 And I get like it's, it must be terrible. terrifying when they're like they're reaching out to us to make this documentary and want us to live with her as we make this. Right. Before she goes to prison, like what the fuck is? Sure. Let's see. Yeah, so maybe she just didn't do her homework. Maybe she did all.
Starting point is 01:09:47 Maybe it's going to be at the end, it's like, oh, she knew everything. But then what, but how does she benefit from like doing some kind of like Andy Kaufman-esque like performance art piece? You know, it's like, ha, ha. From the consequence review by Liz Shannon Miller, which is a 100 out of 100 on Metacritic, it says it asks everyone involved to look at themselves and face the difference between perception and reality. Oh, shit. Yeah. Stupifying and gloriously destabilizing hall of psychological mirrors. This is what the Guardian called it.
Starting point is 01:10:24 Jesus great. That's a sentence. Yeah. And I mean, it makes sense, like, given the confidence she needed to get things. Theranos going. It's just like, it's like, oh, naturally this is an extension of your whole how you, like how you go through life. I think I'm going to walk away from this documentary being like, I'm a fan, guys, sorry. I'm pretty cool. Yo, free Liz, man. I mean, she's living her passion, cringy as it is. She's pushing through. She is like, no, this is what I'm doing. She's like, I'm going to
Starting point is 01:10:53 make it happen. Watch me do the new Theranos. Exactly. Lydia Popovich, such a pleasure having you on the daily zeitgeist. Thank you for having me. I love to be here. Where can people find, you, follow you, all that good stuff? You can follow me

I've been really loving all of the like Dolly Parton mashups and just sort of like unexpected genres of people discovering Dolly Parton for the first time or leaning in hard.
Starting point is 01:11:50 But there's a woman. She's from Atlanta. Her name is Nell Grant. She's an incredible rapper. And she's also a producer. And she wrote a little Dolly Parton. nine to five rap that is over this nine to five beat that is
Starting point is 01:12:03 just phenomenal. I just love it. Shout out to Dalai I beg you put in. Imagine working nine of five and barely having no quarter. Imagine working nine of five and people just getting shorter. Imagine working nine to five until you hit to the slaughter. Being able to do dolly spit Dolly Parton bars is pretty impressive. Pretty hard.
Starting point is 01:12:22 Yeah. And like the beat is really good. Like I've heard some sloppy mashups. I've heard some good mashups. But like that is a nice re-freak to the beat that I appreciated and her flow is right in my pocket of stuff that I enjoy. And yeah, she's a lovely
Starting point is 01:12:35 gal and she's very good. So follow her, listen to her music, support her. She's got bars. Miles where can people find you? Is there a work in media you've been enjoying? Find me everywhere at Miles of Gray. You fuck with 90-day fiancé. So you need to listen to 420-day

Starting point is 01:13:14 The biggest one being Twilight, never seen it, never bothered to see it. Her Majesty was like, you never seen Twilight? I go, in 2008 I was dealing with the fucking economy and trying to get a job right out of college. I was not on some Twilight shit. shit on your shoulders like Atlas. I just saw the first one. That shit is so bad. It's good.
Starting point is 01:13:35 I got to say. I'm like, it's one of my favorite things to watch when I'm in a hotel and it comes on. Anytime you're traveling and you turn on the hotel TV, one of the twilights will be on. Yeah. And it will enrapture me.
Starting point is 01:13:47 It's so wild. This motherfucker is a hundred and eight years old dating a 17 year old. And we're not talking about that either. But okay, that's fine. You might just need to do Edward from Twilight as an icon. But then also Taylor Lautner's busted-ass wigs, bro? I saw that.
Starting point is 01:14:02 I said, I said, I'm like, what the fucking? They couldn't afford a fucking wig for Taylor Lautner? He looked like shit. Wait till you see what the baby looks like that they make. Oh, which one is that the third one? That's the third one. Oh, that baby is that a haunt your goddamn dreams. I just started a new moon last night.
Starting point is 01:14:16 That shit will haunt your dreams. That's the scariest baby I've ever seen of my whole life. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. That one got me. I had to keep her. I couldn't get past the scene where she was born. I was like, I can't.
Starting point is 01:14:27 This is too great. I got to take it back. You got to take it back. I will say one of the most iconic piggyback rides I've ever seen in my life in that first one. He took her straight up the mountain. Just went. Obo Joe. So good.

This track is called D-S-O-L, and it's got like this sort of, you know, new age, but feeling retro-reter. You got that kind of tape pop on it, but it's got a little bit of funkiness to it. It's just a nice sort of texture to listen to.
Starting point is 01:16:04 Hopefully, if you have fall weather, I don't know. It's still hot as shit here. But I'm going to listen to this music to pretend fall is coming.
