Starting point is 00:02:11 Listen to The Bright Side from Hello Sunshine on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of Zeit Boy Rick, a play on the famous iconic film White Boy Rick that nobody saw. I'm Jack O'Brien. I'm an airplane. That's Miles Gray. Miles, you've been singing this Drake song for the past couple days. So is Drake about to have a renaissance? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:36 He put two good songs out in one video. Probably means he has some kind of album coming out, but you never know. It could be three just good songs or it could be straight magma magma we don't know what was the last no what was the last album by him that you thought was like a really great album that i fucked with probably nothing was the same yeah it was like
Starting point is 00:03:00 when i was really you didn't like if you're in this you're's too late? Well, that one, it had too many songs, and there was a lot of good shit on there. I just don't think, I always viewed that as him trying to get out of his deal. Like he just needed to get that album done. I did too, but it was so good. There was a lot of good shit on there. But hey, you know, what do I know? It was so good, man.
Starting point is 00:03:17 So good, bro. Let's talk about what's trending. A, The Wire is trending because people, somebody asked which is better the wire or Breaking Bad and I think the wire is trending because that's the answer in my opinion my humble opinion
Starting point is 00:03:34 I did not like how Breaking Bad ended I think it would have been a good ending if they had acknowledged that it was all in his head but oh you wanted it that's how you wanted Breaking Bad to end? I think that's what Gilligan intended the ending to be, that from the time he closes his eyes
Starting point is 00:03:54 as the police are closing in, and then he opens them and the keys come down, like just straight wish fulfillment. Everything plays out like walter would want it to everything around him just like completely goes his way um and i don't know it seemed like i i have a whole theory about how vince gilligan was like struggling to struggling to like control the show for creative control with Bryan Cranston, who fell in love with the character, and so he had to give him a heroic ending.
Starting point is 00:04:31 But the way he kind of threaded the needle was by making the ending something that happened in Walter's head, and he actually died ignominiously in that car as the cops were closing in, in the snow. But still, I think The Wire is better, even if that was the ending. I mean, I think The Sopranos, for me personally, need to be in this discussion as well. I think The Wire is better than Breaking Bad.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Yes. You think The Wire v. Sopranos is the real conversation? I don't even know if it is because they kind of do different things for me. Right. But I personally feel like The Sopranos is one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Yeah. I also believe The Wire is. I think The Wire is one of the greatest works of art.
Starting point is 00:05:14 American art. Take it up a step. Yeah. Okay. But I also, I think Sopranos is, I would say the same thing about Sopranos that you said about if you're reading this, it's too late, that it's just like they,
Starting point is 00:05:25 it seemed like they were spinning their wheels, just kind of playing out the clock on a couple episodes there at the end. Sure. But that happens to most shows anyway, not the wire. Well, some people, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:37 some people have their opinion. I didn't, I didn't like the newspaper part, but that was it. Um, but yeah, I think with, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:43 breaking bad V wire i i think the wire edges it out yeah yeah um supreme air force one yeah finally donald trump is gonna stun on all these fucking losers he's gonna make it a collaboration supreme air force one coming at you um actually no it's just a collab between n Nike and Supreme for the Air Force One sneaker. That, you know, a lot of the, most of these collabs these days with Supreme and Nike are simply just finding a way to put the box logo on a shoe. Right. And this is no different. And they've just done it with one of the more iconic sneakers.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And, you know, again. The all white Air Force One. All white, all black. I think they have a camo one. Or no, I think it's like olive green. I think there's also in canvas. There's a variety. But really, all it is is you get a little box logo tag on there. Like very little.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Just below the swoosh. Just below. Just so you know. Just so you can let people know, I paid more money for these than I should have. Right. Unless you're getting it for retail what is yeah that that seems wild that people are um paying a ton for this but well i mean this is just kind of where you know consumer hypebeast culture is at like it's acquire at all costs um i i mean i think that's a real quick race to the bottom for people. Yeah. I just get what the fuck is available.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Because I can't put the energy into like waiting in lines. I'm damn sure not going to use a bot to get something. Yeah. So. All you need to do is get like the Supreme Box logo iron on labels. Yeah, right. Just get a bunch of those. Put them on my own like fucking triple A plain white t-shirts.
Starting point is 00:07:22 I'm going to draw in red pen and just be done with it. Well, it's funny too because the hype around it has also helped launch other brands that are just basically parodying the Supreme brand. So, hey man, it's a whole ecosystem. It is a whole ecosystem. A whole damn ecosystem. Art Van is trending. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:42 That is a manufacturer outlet for furniture furniture in the midwest that's closing oh good so nothing happened to the art van no no what's the art van trending i don't know i just that's my new gut reaction whenever we do trends i'm like art van was probably a good person yeah uh and i'm guessing art van was probably a real person as well. But yeah, I guess we didn't realize what was going on with them, with their furnitures. And finally, Last of Us is trending. That is a video game, a zombie video game. Oh yeah, Jack, you know about Last of Us. Go on, go off.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Of course. Go off, PS King. I mean, of course, who can forget Last of Us? Exactly, go on go off of course go off ps king i mean of course who can forget last of us uh exactly zombie video game where um it's all you know zombie zombie wasteland it's all fun and games so it is one of the greatest video games of all time wow i think many people would say uh it for sure getting the thumbs up would say, uh, it for sure. And the thumbs up from super producer Daniel. It for sure challenged what people thought a video game was,
Starting point is 00:08:50 what it could be, how you play a game, what a narrative within a video game is. Right. It's one of the first times it was one of the first video games I had to put down because I'm like, this is kind of fucking me up. Right.
Starting point is 00:09:02 Like it's most games. You're like, yeah, fine. Fucking zombies. And there's guns. Great. I'm gonna go through and I'm fucking clap this is kind of fucking me up. Right. Like it's, most games you're like, yeah, fine. Fucking zombies and there's guns. Great. I'm gonna go through and I'm fucking clap everybody and stab, just button mash.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Right. This game was like, oh, you thought that's how this is going to play out. Right. It like forced you to like respect your limitations as a human being. Wow. And you're like play into your vulnerability
Starting point is 00:09:20 as a human being in a very unpredictable environment. And from that standpoint, it's definitely a transformative video game. Now, Dan, you can come in here too. We can share this mic because we love this game and we're trying to tell Jack how important it is. But to know that they're making a TV show based on this is good for many reasons. I agree. I want to back up that the narrative is so strong
Starting point is 00:09:45 and that in the video game world, this was one of those first games that made people treat video games with the respect of the capabilities of their storytelling. And just to nail home one of the facts that Miles is talking about, especially when it comes to the whole
Starting point is 00:09:59 button mashing whatever thing, you're lucky if you're walking around in this game and you find three bullets. Yeah. Three. Oh, wow. Straight up up your best weapon in this game is a brick uh-huh that's how you play this game is it just because the guns have all been used up all the ammo shit's scarce but it's just a different that's not the way the game is meant to you're not you're not a tough guy who can just absorb a bunch of fucking damage it's about like you're a person you're hanging by a fucking thread. I don't think you're going to be able to fight these guys that are sneak around because that's just the reality.
Starting point is 00:10:31 You're outmatched. So you have to like respect that. This is also really conveniently timed with the release of Last of Us Part 2, which is coming out shortly and is also kind of. and is also kind of in a similar way, pushing down some of the barriers of video game storytelling, showing one of the first lesbian relationships in a game. And it's, I mean, it's just incredibly progressive in so many different categories,
Starting point is 00:10:56 not just gameplay, but storytelling and all of that. So I think this is a really good, it's a good story to make a TV show out of. And yeah, on top of that, Craig Mazin from Chernobyl. Yeah, the creator of Chernobyl is making it. And the game's creator, Neil Druckmann, is also involved.
Starting point is 00:11:11 So there's like, okay, good. There's someone who knows how to do great TV, plus the person who understands what the game is about and what they want it to communicate. Yeah. So it'll be, I mean, this is exciting. Very exciting. I normally would be like, Oh cool.
Starting point is 00:11:25 HBO is making a video game show. Great. But like, this is, there's some depth. It seems like video game content has like jumped a level or something because, you know, the Sonic movie,
Starting point is 00:11:37 people were like, wait, this isn't terrible. What would happen? And it was a big hit and detective Pikachu. Like people seem to respect that as a as a movie and now they're like going full uh peak tv on on a video game so that's interesting um i'd be able to fill you in on that man yeah yeah i i'm excited now for this and people are throwing out names like Keanu for the
Starting point is 00:12:06 lead. Whoa. Okay. Or at least I saw his picture in a headline. Yeah. I mean, he looks good, sort of gaunt and sweating.
Starting point is 00:12:15 So that might be him. Little stub. Do you remember how well written Max Payne three was? I thought like Max Payne three was also well written. I'm just going on tangents. Cause like people are, people have also really you know for the last 8 years 10 years
Starting point is 00:12:28 have really been dialing in like what it means to even write a video game and what the story is versus like how are you gonna fuck up these non playable characters right well shit Miles it's been a pleasure talking to you today we will
Starting point is 00:12:44 remain in icy silence until we record again tomorrow I guess we should reveal to the public that our rule with each other is we only speak when the mics are on cause then it ain't making money baby that's right
Starting point is 00:12:58 our words have to be monetized or we just can't work up the courage the courage to talk to each other. All right. Love you guys. Have a great Thursday afternoon. Yes. And we'll be back tomorrow to close this week out.
