Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello the internet and welcome to Zyte Bright. Zyte Bright, turn on the magical color Zyte. That is courtesy of you, Miles? Yeah, I think I just said that. I was just thinking, well, because now there's so many commercials on, you know, toys and things. The holidays are commanding us, buy, buy, buy. And I just thought, I think of so many old commercials constantly that were drilled into my brain. My buddy. My buddy. My buddy.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Wherever he goes. Then there's Kid Sister. I'm gonna go. Yeah, I always sing Kid Sister right immediately after My Buddy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:37 That was a new thing. I remember it only just used to be My Buddy and then they got woke around 1990 and added Kid Sister or whatever that was. But they would always
Starting point is 00:00:44 put Kid Sister after my buddy. Yeah. It was very strange. Patriarchy. That's right. My name is Jack O'Brien. That's Miles Gray. We are about to take you through what is trending at the present moment.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Currently, both Kamala and Kay Hive are trending on Twitter because Kamala Harris has dropped out of the 2020 Democratic primary. And K-Hive was, I wasn't familiar with that term. But there are people who are very upset about her dropping out and claiming they will still vote for her in the general, even if it means Trump winning, because she's the only one who deserves their vote. I, you know, I, I get it because it hurts. Yeah. Well, especially whenever you work on a campaign though, too, and you fully immerse yourself and like the culture of a candidate and this, the like winning mentality of like, we are
Starting point is 00:01:43 going to get our candidate. Yeah. Like through to victory yeah when the rug's pulled out that shit can be very painful yeah i i you know hopefully um some of her supporters will come around to uh vote for another candidate but right now i get it like honestly yeah you're mad well and also too like for kamala she obviously there were there were parts about her policies I did not agree with. But I think it's very important in terms of her running as a black woman.
Starting point is 00:02:11 The just the momentous occasion that this was. Yeah. And her being up there definitely brought up like new conversations about maternity and things like that. But I totally man, like, you know, I don't want the smoke from K-Hive right now. You don't want smoke from a supporter base right after their candidate dropped out of the race. I don't want the smoke from any supporter base, man. I will be a coward.
Starting point is 00:02:36 This is a smoke-free election for you. Smoke-free election. Yeah, I mean, even like- I mean, if it gets tight, I might have to take some smoke. Even talking shit about Tulsi, like people came at us and were like, what are you talking about, man? You just swallowed the mainstream media's talking point. And maybe I did.
Starting point is 00:02:52 I need to do more research, apparently. There's a lot of people already. There are so many supporters of other candidates doing the wrong thing, which is getting into the K-Hive discussion and being like maybe you should check out mayor pete and i saw people a few people cheat that i'm like you are you couldn't have you couldn't have done a worse thing right now right but i mean it's not like mayor pete and his followers to be insensitive to oh yeah the nuances of uh race relations in this country yeah well just relations with other groups yeah hey man but if if you if it's uh look nurse your wounds yeah uh because this is this you know the the primaries they're they're like this they're like this uh black widow is trending is the number one trending subject on google uh earlier today because they dropped the first trailer for the Black Widow movie.
Starting point is 00:03:46 And it looks, I think you and I had similar responses. Like there are some dope things in the trailer for sure. I could have probably filled in the blanks of everything that happens for the most part. Like if you gave me 10 minutes and some time to-
Starting point is 00:04:03 I could write most of the story beats out. Right. So there's this action movie trope where a guy, like two characters see each other for the first time in the movie and they punch each other. And you're like,
Starting point is 00:04:15 oh my God. Oh my God, they must hate each other. And then the guy like wipes his mouth and then he's like, good to see you again. Like they shake hands and it's like,
Starting point is 00:04:23 yeah brother. Son of a bitch. Well, this has a whole new level of that with Black Widow seeing her sister for the first time. And they like almost kill each other. Yeah. Like they deliver blows that would kill most people. Honestly, the way she went through that glass door, that was kind of cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Like the way she fell, it didn't feel like script, like choreographed fights of like, yeah, man, what if your ass flew through a door? Like you would look awkward as fuck. And then as she walks away, which by the whole thing seems to be badly ADR'd, but as she walks away, she is made to seem like she's saying, good to see you too, sis. Whoa, they're sisters. I don't know anything about these movies really so i can't i don't know what to be excited about like is black was black widow a big character for people
Starting point is 00:05:15 who loved the avengers films i mean it seems like it's an opportunity for an Avenger movie to like sometimes the Avenger movies will have a like solo project Wu-Tang solo album yeah yeah where it'll like be an excuse to do a genre film like like Bobby Digital right like like Bobby Digital like Ant-Man was sort of a heist movie and I can't think of any other examples. Captain America Winter Soldier was like sort of a 70s spy thriller. Ragnarok was a fun comedy. Was a comedy. Yeah, exactly. Got it.
Starting point is 00:05:54 I was thinking this might be like a cool opportunity to be like a Bourne type movie. I mean, it reads very Bourne. It reads very Bourne. Pretty real. Does she have superpowers? Aside from just being like a badass. No, she's just a badass. Like assassin or special agent or whatever. And I think she was like bred to be a super assassin.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Right, because her sister, did her sister have the accent? And she's like, good to see you too, sis. Yeah, yeah, they both had it. But she took accent classes because she was trying to work in Hollywood as an Asian woman. And David Harbour is also out here doing a fake russian accent as uh red guardian yeah red guardian i thought i honestly i was like russian captain america yeah i thought it was a janky soviet captain america right because the helmet looks the same it must be i'm sure uh zai gang who knows about the marvel everything knows that was must have been some kind
Starting point is 00:06:43 of reaction to that. But, but it ends with everybody like base jumping through a sky of falling debris and shooting machine guns at each other while in free fall, which I cannot argue with. So yeah, you really, that shit was dope.
Starting point is 00:06:58 You really liked that part. You're like, that's just dope though. I'm like, I don't know, man, how do you navigate that debris? But I guess it's a film and also, and also she's been trained, dude. Yeah, that's true. I will like, I don't know, man. How do you navigate that debris? But I guess it's a film. And also, she's been trained, dude.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Yeah, that's true. I will say, my favorite part was probably the score to the soundtrack. They have a little synth swell line. It's funny how we've seen scores for trailers kind of evolve. Obviously, Inception has completely changed the game in terms of how we score things. Like every has some version of a wah or a like quick sting. And this was nice to have like a, yeah,
Starting point is 00:07:34 yeah. Hey, maybe they made that a massive, I don't know. I don't know what that means. It's a native instruments, a VSD. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:07:41 of course it is. Left Parness is also trending. VSD. Yeah, of course it is. Lev Parnas is also trending. And I think the best version of this story that I saw was Lev Parnas' lawyer telling Devin Nunes he should
Starting point is 00:07:54 have recused himself while retweeting records of calls between Devin Nunes and Parnas. Wait, so he was saying you should recuse yourself and then messily retweeting transcripts of calls between Lev Parnas and Devin Nunes?
Starting point is 00:08:11 Yeah. That's tight. It is. Yeah, so I'm sure we'll have more to talk about on that. Well, we knew that Devin Nunes has been stinking like cow shit from the get-go. So, yeah, let's speed this up. Please,
Starting point is 00:08:26 please reveal your receipts for Cyber Monday. And then, Alanis Morissette, Vanity Fair, said she's having a moment, or her 2020 moment is starting right now.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Chapo Trap House just wrote out on that Thank You song, which I hadn't thought about in about a decade. Thank you, thank you. Yeah, where she starts thanking India. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Yeah. Thank you, man. Yeah, but then she announced today the upcoming Jagged Little Pill tour. Yeah, I think it was over the weekend. Everyone from the 90s was like, what, the who? Yeah. Because Jagged Little Pill the weekend. Everyone from the 90s was like, what? The who? Because Jagged Little Pill is 25 years old.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Wow. And the opening acts are Liz Phair and Garbage. Yeah. Liz Phair heads. We're my real Liz Phair heads out there. I'm not a Liz Phair head, but I'm a Garbage face. You're a Garbage face? Garbage face all in for Shirley Manson.
Starting point is 00:09:24 You weren't into Exile in Guyville Is that a musical? Based on the Rolling Stones? Yeah, it's like It's a concept album That is a It's Guys and Dolls A feminist response
Starting point is 00:09:36 To the Rolling Stones album Guys and Dolls And Exile on Main Street Yeah, there was Yeah For me, Garbage My God I was such a big fan.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Oh, God. Oh, God. Jagged Little Pill was a moment for sure. Oh, yeah. That was like one of those last albums everybody owned. Like everybody bought the CD. Yeah. That, for me, I think in my group of people, it was the Soul Food soundtrack.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Yeah. Yeah, Soul Food soundtrack or the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. Yes. Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. Well, shit. Those are the things that are trending right now. We will be back tomorrow morning with more podcasts, and we will talk to you guys then.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Have a great evening. Bye. Bye.
