Starting point is 00:01:40 People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Zeidhard with a Trenjitz. Courtesy of Fighter of the Night, man. by Diet Coke. Thunderbolt up your ass. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do you know that that movie was made before Pulp Fiction came out? So like it was released. Like, I know I'm about to blow up, but I'm assuming it's because of the diehard thing
Starting point is 00:02:36 and not like he both movies were in the can and all released at the same time. What a fucking wave when you're like a movie star and you gotta be like, man, I got these two things that might shift culture and then I'm gonna be set for life. Yeah. He proceeded to be the most successful
Starting point is 00:02:57 actor. Highest grossing actor. Highest grossing actor of all time. I think we were always going back and forth because of the Marvel stuff, but I believe he's still highest grossing actor of all time? I think we were always going back and forth because of the Marvel stuff, but I believe he's still highest grossing actors of all time. Sam Jackson.
Starting point is 00:03:14 He's got the Jurassic Park. He's got Marvel. He's got Marvel. Star Wars. If it's all roles, Stan Lee gets the edge all roles yeah i mean this includes cameos oh voice acting i gotta well stan lee is my favorite i mean samuel jackson is probably number two but number one favorite actress stan lee i've always thought his range was
Starting point is 00:03:43 remarkable it's uh sam jackson robert downey jr and warwick davis is actually number three warwick davis yeah i guess from star wars films i guess willow not willow that was the that was my first thought too i. I was like, damn, Willow! They thought it was going to be... They were like, well, people are... Hobbit? Who? Lord of what rings? Because Willow is about to take
Starting point is 00:04:14 America down. His highest grossing film? Force Awakens. Yeah. Oh, and Harry Potter. Yeah, okay. Okay, yeah. We pretty good at warwick nice all right well i'm jack that over there is miles and these are some of the things that are trending uh andrew gillum uh once rising florida democrat uh who now lost 2018 gubernatorial race
Starting point is 00:04:41 against uh our future president don ron de santis don rasantis don rasantis uh recedeth are you suffering from dry eye try new prescription rasantis um it's wild to think how different their their lives are four years on yeah like he was like everyone's like oh wow andrew gillum might take, you know, the might win Florida. And now he, then he had a fan just scandal after scandal. He was like caught up in that like hotel room with somebody on drugs and shit.
Starting point is 00:05:14 And it's been, yeah, now fucking fraud. Yeah. He's told associates. He expects to be indicted in federal court as early as today for alleged fraud tied to his campaign so wow interesting that he seems to not be able to get away with fraud at will um but other other
Starting point is 00:05:34 politicians and other parties seem to be good i don't know what it is i don't know what i don't know what it might be unless or he was just really sloppy with it but then again i can't imagine he was the sloppiest with his campaign fraud shit floppier than trump yeah i'm like sloppier than the sloppiest um we talk a little bit about uh ronnie d donnie re on tomorrow's episode that motherfucker is terrifying jewel we about Jewel a lot years back as it was sweeping the nation and everyone was like, this is probably not good for us. There have been laws passed
Starting point is 00:06:19 and things have gone back and forth, but people are now saying that they expect Jewel to be pulled off of us shelves as early as today or tomorrow, which is pretty wild. Like that's, first of all, it's still everywhere.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Yeah. And it's, it's also like we were talking before, it's not clear like that, It's also, like we were talking before, it's not clear what the big difference is other than that Juul is massive and centralized and being traded on the market. So subject to regulation, whereas there are lots of vapes. The ones that look like walkie-talkies with a robot dick sticking out of them. Those tend to just be one-offs and there's all sorts of small boutique
Starting point is 00:07:12 vape juice creators. Probably harder to regulate. You're also seeing a lot of the mainstream tobacco companies coming out with their own light products. Philip Morris bought a steak in Juul. They're like, hold on. know mainstream tobacco companies coming out with their own kind of oh yeah well light product philip morris bought a stake in jewel they're like well hold on hold on wait a second here
Starting point is 00:07:29 hey we'll take 35 of that for almost 13 billion dollars yeah so we'll see we'll see i'll believe it when i see it but i mean i i think honestly even like the idea that it's like there are other companies that are it. A lot of the criticism of this. They're like, why just go after one? Like, if it's that big of a problem, go after the whole industry. Right. But maybe this is like the first one to fall.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Yeah. For the regular. Well, I think what they're saying is like it's it's like real easy for the regulators because they were kind of like the first big name and they were sloppy with it breaking like laws and shit so then it's just easier to just go after them because rather than being like we're taking on the whole industry they're like man we'll just go after this big thing and yeah there are other people that are selling products that are just the same right so yeah uh jewel users stock up that's all i gotta say am i right if you if you have like thousands of dollars jewels also very expensive how much is a jewel like so the the thing it's like it goes on like that printer logic um where it's like the actual thing is like 15 but then
Starting point is 00:08:41 like a pack of four of the pods is $20. Yeah. Oh, you get, wow, real, I like that. Real drug dealer shit. I'll give you a pipe. You want two for $13 or four for $20? Exactly. Yeah, I'll take four. $20 is most
Starting point is 00:09:00 of the increments people are used to spending in to support habits. Yeah, yeah, okay, fuck it. Let's do that. I'll give you a 20. What the fuck do I care? Kyrie trending. Lots of NBA offseason stuff. What are we seeing and hearing? It's always interesting
Starting point is 00:09:16 to get a look from inside the Lakers world. Was it Woj or Shams? Somebody basically described the Lakers as, quote, the most significant threat to Kyrie leaving the Nets. Interesting. I don't know. I'm not particularly a big fan of Kyrie Irving, the person.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Can't deny that he's got skills. But I feel like most of the people who say like this is all just like bluster for his like for a net steal because what he'd make 30 million less if he came to the lakers i don't that doesn't seem like something he'd be wanting to do yeah um and it might be easier just to create some noise but i don't know i might go i might but then other people are saying like no the nets want it kairi wants it the agent is just trying to do nonsense i don't know i might go i might but then other people are saying like no the nets wanted kairi wants it the agent is just trying to do nonsense i don't know i will i will say i am not a fan of like kairi's you know personality or the role uh in popular culture and the zeitgeist but uh i think he's my favorite offensive player to watch like I am a huge fan of his skills.
Starting point is 00:10:27 He seems to be the most skilled offensive player in my humble estimation that I've ever seen. But this pisses me off because I want KD. KD, another one of my favorite players of all time. He's trying to build something in Brooklyn, and now Kyrie's out of there i just it's not a great not a great situation for kd i would i would be sad because he's you know nearing the end of the the peak of uh kevin durant so this i don't know that i got i know i'm in bad shape when a slideshow gets me,
Starting point is 00:11:06 but there's on a website called newarena.com, they've got a slideshow, the top 30 NBA free agents, where the top 30 NBA free agents will sign. And I clicked through the whole thing. My computer is riddled with virus. I really feel like this is, it's just a weird situation. He, like the Nets, yeah, what are they going to do?
Starting point is 00:11:32 Kyrie leaves, KD's going to start, his head starts getting turned. I just feel like it's a weird move to try and be like, hey, he might leave for $30 million less. And we all know that's a better deal for him. Like, I don't know how you leverage that if that's what you're trying to do for your client but we see this all the time like in all sports that have like free agency moments like this
Starting point is 00:11:55 where trades are happening in like most leagues most sports there are teams that it's easy to just always be like hey you know they're probably talking to them too just to kind of chum the waters so I get it you know they they're using our clout gary harris is somebody that people think might sign with the sixers so that's exciting that would be fun i like gary harris always have from the early days in denver um then everybody forgot about him because he went to Orlando, which is like a void of NBA fandom. My 76ers are apparently floating around Matisse Thibel
Starting point is 00:12:32 as a trade Thibel and the 23 pick for a win now player. Not sure that's going to get it done, but I like when Woj has like a spicy, spicy little take. He says, If you're a GM in the NBA and Daryl Morey hasn't called and offered you number 23 and Matisse Thibault for someone on your roster, you probably have your phone shut off. All right, Woj. What's he hearing that he's going to write that?
Starting point is 00:13:00 They're like, Bro, Morey is melting my fucking phone. He's sending giftsIFs now. Right. Like being like, hey, you there? It's really getting annoying. Anyways, let's take a quick break. We will be right back.
Starting point is 00:13:26 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted,
Starting point is 00:13:56 just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:14:19 or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Prudente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions, like how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Starting point is 00:14:38 Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss a hundred percent of the shots you never take. Yeah. Rejection is scary, but it's better than
Starting point is 00:15:08 you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese.
Starting point is 00:15:39 I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch.
Starting point is 00:15:59 She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:22 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson.
Starting point is 00:16:58 I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:17:21 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And the gun bill, the most sweeping, comprehensive gun legislation, according to many mainstream media outlets, passed the Senate 64 to 34 which i don't know when you got when you got republicans on it a better than nothing right man that's if we said that all the time we say that all the time it's better than nothing which is true something is better than nothing, but is it an assault weapons ban? Is it raising the minimum age to purchase a weapon? Nope. That rhymes with raising the minimum wage, and they will not allow that. That's too close.
Starting point is 00:18:14 No, no, no. That can happen. That can happen. But anyway, all that said, what it does do increases funding for mental health programs and school security, three quarters of a billion dollars to help states implement and run like crisis intervention programs closing the boyfriend loophole which i think is really important which basically bars anyone who's convicted of a domestic violence crime against you know someone they have this again remember we talked about how they were
Starting point is 00:18:40 they're trying to argue about what is a relationship even, as now someone they have, quote, having a continuing serious relationship of a romantic or intimate nature from having a gun. But if they haven't committed other crimes, like if you have a clean record and you were convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, you can have your gun rights back after five years.
Starting point is 00:19:03 So, hey, if you were nice before and your first crime was attacking a partner then you just have to wait five years before you get your gun and also you know like we said it's like goes after like individual gun sellers makes that easier and then like one of the last points which is weird encourages states to include juvenile records in the national instant crime background check uh system with grants but what does that mean like they're just not getting in the way of that or they're making it harder for gunman basically saying like doing that hey if you include their juvenile records in this database or this background check system, we'll give you some money. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:50 So we can't make you do it. We're only people who pass laws. We can only encourage it. Sweeten the pot. Some grizzies. Yeah. Okay. But I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:01 So that's, I mean, if the votes hold and that sounds like something that could be filibuster proof. Wow. Yeah. Uh, but yeah, I don't, we'll, we'll see how long this, uh, this very minimal level of cooperation will last. There's a bunch of, uh, so Jalen Ferguson is, uh, the name of a 26 year old NFL player for the Ravens who was just found dead. There's just been a lot of young, current
Starting point is 00:20:31 NFL players who have died. An NBA player, a recent NBA player who just died. It's troubling. Also, Tony Siragusa who was a great defensive player for the Ravens and a TV staple
Starting point is 00:20:48 for a long time, just died at age 55. So, yeah. I don't know. Yeah, a lot of athlete deaths happening pretty close together. I had no idea Tony Siragusa... When I saw that, I was like, what?
Starting point is 00:21:03 I thought he was always hawking lifestyle, like, hey, man, be healthy. I'm Tony Siragusa. Yeah. I mean, it's hard, bro. That fucking pounding your head all day and gaining and losing massive amounts of weight. I can't imagine what that shit does to you at the end of the day. Yeah, it's I mean, I know that some leagues have like put in in danger on a regular basis like here is how to mentally deal with that shit um but i i just feel like there's not there's not enough or or maybe like there's just no good way to do that and yeah you know i mean it shouldn't be a thing that I mean it just I mean the more we learn about CTE and you see how a lot of players who are suffering from
Starting point is 00:22:10 that you know end up in their like later days is this there's not much evidence to say like yeah this is good for them this is a good this is good this is this all roads lead to happy life and health after because it doesn't seem to be the case and
Starting point is 00:22:25 i think but i mean that's most industries like you know just like we don't give a shit like dude just we need to get what we need out of you while you can do it and then i don't give a fuck what happens to you after um yeah and then i guess the effects are just way more pronounced when your job is like smashing your body constantly um but yeah yeah and then newsmax oan and fox are in the news um because they're being sued by voting machine makers of many different take your pick pick your pick a few different ones they've all had different names coming out of their their channels um they're all so all of them newsmax oa and fox they've tried to get their like defamation cases dismissed all three sorry the judges have been like nah nah nah this we're
Starting point is 00:23:14 gonna we're gonna keep rocking with this case in the case of fox though it seems like you know the reason it wasn't dismissed was because dominion voting systems may have properly shown that Lackland Murdoch and Rupert Murdoch actually caused direct harm to their reputation, which is allowing the case to go forward. And if that's true, I'd imagine it's big settlement time. Because I'm sure they don't want to be deposed. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely not publicly they're like all right you got us there what you need man because we cannot talk about this anymore i mean the dollar figures are such that it would be materially like damaging to um those those
Starting point is 00:23:59 companies right like if it went for like you know if they actually went through and what they're seeking yeah like if they got those that kind of money but i'm sure it depends on like i look i know nothing about this kind of like law or law in general i don't even know about law and order the tv show um but i i have a feeling that you know at the end of the day i'm sure dominion will be fine getting some just absurd settlement and then being like, and now keep our names out of your mouth forever. But I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:29 considering like how much these three networks completely just spun people's fucking heads in between November and January of 2020 and 2021, you feel like, bro, they need to be complete. Like, you know, we've always been saying these,
Starting point is 00:24:44 like these shouldn't be on the air like most corporate media that's like trying to be like the world is like this yeah I mean speaking of Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch the their buying of the Wall Street Journal like can't be
Starting point is 00:25:00 underestimated for how much damage that that has done to like just because i i feel like that is a creator of like opinions among people who run shit like i i really think the country is being like badly poisoned by the wall street journal the wall street journal is trash it's one percenter twitter yeah exactly you know just like elon's like let me buy twitter to fuck with this entire group of people like to be able to be in the ears of that investor class you know capital movers and shakers yeah anyways uh those are some of the things that are trending
Starting point is 00:25:37 on this wednesday june 22nd still as of this recording, nothing out of the Supreme Court on Roe, but we expect that any minute. So, you know, next episode. And hopefully they've gone back behind closed doors, had a good think on it, and have come to their senses. What do you think? I think we only got us
Starting point is 00:26:05 yeah alright well uh back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the vaccine don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will talk to y'all tomorrow bye bye
Starting point is 00:26:18 hey I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jermaine Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts.
