Starting point is 00:01:20 One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nickname Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer, this season on the new podcast, Rip Current. What happens when a professional football player's career ends and the applause fades and the screaming fans move on?
Starting point is 00:01:51 I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. For some former NFL players, a new faith provides answers. You mix homesteading with guns in church voila you got straight away they try to save everybody listen to spiraled on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts hello the internet and welcome to zeit remixed uh obey your thirst obey your thirst yeah that's that's the one. Do they make Sprite remakes anymore? Nope. Damn. Who the fuck was that? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Miles, you were told. Daniel? Oh, my goodness. There you are. Oh, my good mans. All right, guys. Let's talk about what's trending right now. Ram's new logo trending because the Los Angeles Rams have released a logo. And leaked, basically.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Yeah, leaked a hat that has a new logo on it. It is... I would say not good. Right. Is one way to describe it. What? Straight trash? It's supposed to be a wave or something?
Starting point is 00:02:57 I don't know. It's supposed to be like in LA, but the A is curving back to be like the horns. Oh, a ram horn. Yeah, that they have on the helmets. Right. But it all happened because it was on someone posted it on reddit and people like nah this can't be it because like this is such fucking garbage uh and then people were like uh yeah this this
Starting point is 00:03:16 actually we can confirm uh this is probably the can confirm uh big if true big if true uh love it if true especially in october but this is yeah it's it's not it looks like almost like a half chargers logo it definitely evokes a bit of a charger right yeah i this is this one i don't know who the fuck they hire to make these logos right i mean i can see the design logic they're like make the LA more prominent because we want like city pride or something like that. Whereas in the past, you know, the logo has just been the Ram, right? And so by adding LA more prominently, they're like, we're, we're setting down roots guys.
Starting point is 00:03:57 This is, we are LA's team now. It's just kind of whack the way they did it. I don't know. I think probably because all of these things end up at a point where some dude with no swag has the final word. Right. And they're like, I don't know about that cool logo. Do the one where the LA looks like the Ram. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:18 It's a committee. Committee decisions. Designed by committee. Hey, did you say somebody else was here? Dan? Danal? Dan, Dan, Daniel? Is he the one who's hitting the mic? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Trying to go over to be like, cut that pause. Let me plug in my own mic. Yeah. You brought your own mic again, huh? I did. After being like the people, you got to give the people what they want. The game content. And that's your boy, Daniel.
Starting point is 00:04:41 People just need to hear us talk games. You know what I mean? I mean, you know, I'll tell you what, them subreddits, they're popping right now. Yeah. Which ones? Our Watch People Dine side? Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:51 That's a great one. It's a good one. Daniel, you were explaining to us why at Reggie is trending. Yeah, well, because- What happened to Reggie Miller? Poor Reggie Miller. So Reggie Fils-Aimé. Reggie Fils?
Starting point is 00:05:02 Former president of Nintendo US. Okay. Replaced by Doug Bowser. Yes, Doug Bowser. That's wild. Not a joke. He is apparently now working with GameStop. He's on their board. Which has got to be the weirdest lateral move to go from a blossoming company that is continuing to innovate in the space of video games.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Blossoming? You would call it Nintendo? Blossoming? Yeah. Or like the Switch? Or like. Blossoming? You would call it Nintendo? Blossoming? Or like the Switch? Or like the Renaissance, maybe? With the Switch, bro. I would say every time Nintendo releases a new console, they change the way people play video games.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Right, but I'm saying blossoming, though. Thank you, bro. But you would describe Nintendo as a blossoming game? Yeah, with the Nintendo Switch. Okay, fair play, fair play. Just like the Japanese person. I'm like, you need to put some respect on Nintendo. But what about the Switch, though, bro?
Starting point is 00:05:42 I'm like, you need to put some respect on mental health. But what about the Switch, though, bro? Everyone's ignoring fucking Jack with the same way. My old ass dude. The guy who's read one video game article over the past three years. Listen here, Jack. How do I play Switch? That's right. I mean, every time they re-pop up in the scene the seat yeah it's just in the world of video
Starting point is 00:06:07 games while people are worried about a console war between ps4 and xbox and whatever and all that shit it doesn't matter like nintendo consistently is developing and innovating and creating awesome video gaming experiences so to go from that company to the lamest going out of business company i've ever heard of with gamestop how is that a decision that you think is good for you the final dying farts of a store. Literally. It's they were like, I mean,
Starting point is 00:06:29 there are barely any stores open left anyway. They, they closed like 600 stores last year. I don't know what happened. I mean, potentially what he resurrects it. And that's for his ego. Does he do it because he has a revenge fantasy?
Starting point is 00:06:43 I'm not sure what his motivation is unless he really feels like oh i can i can bring this motherfucker back if he believes that he can bring back gamestop then you know what more power to him however he chooses to do that if he turns them all into land centers that combine as both video game stores and also places to play video games making them game stops then like maybe oh i't know. I don't have any information on that. That's pure speculation. I'm sorry. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Anyway, the point being is that I don't see a world in which he reignites this brand when so much of how people buy video games and play them, it's digital download. Barely anybody has physical copies anymore. And even if there's, I mean, games go on sale so much now on all of the online networks, there's no point. That's when I realized how far we've come because there was nothing more satisfying than going to the store on release day, getting my physical disc in my hand and being like, oh, man, when I get home, this shit is on. To now being like, all right, the night before I pre-buy it, I wake up and Santa has already put it on my hard drive. It's already downloaded.
Starting point is 00:07:44 It's ready to go. There's a convenience factor, but I still like the feeling. Now, as an adult, I couldn't buy a lot of games as a kid. I always had to rent them. If people came over, I had the weak-ass three-game collection. They're like, bro, you got Rayman 2 and the weird Die Hard
Starting point is 00:08:00 Trilogy collection on PlayStation. Now, I'm like, yo, check out this wild ass shelf yes i have literally fifa's 99 to 20 uh all on here but i just want to let y'all know i'm living this shit or like all the call of duty games but yeah what are you gonna do what are you gonna do does it there's no place that people play video games publicly now right like arcade like dave and busters so i think no it's arcade. Dave and Buster's has definitely blossomed
Starting point is 00:08:26 in the space. I'm using blossoming a lot. I'm going to take that back. Dave and Buster's has definitely- No, no, keep that in. Keep it. No edit.
Starting point is 00:08:31 No, he's pro-blossom. I'm going to ruin it so you have to leave it in. It's team blossom. I fucked up. He's wearing an Outback Steakhouse shirt that says awesome blossom on it too. You're a big blossom fan.
Starting point is 00:08:39 I'm going to say whoa because you're a blossom and I'm Joey. Wow. And a nice Mayim Bialik forearm tattoo you got. Dave and Busters has definitely blown up in a space of playing games like phone games, like Fruit Ninja and all of these kind of like... Right.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Trying to make people come back to play something they know rather than like, you want to play SNK versus Copcom? Exactly. You don't want to have SNK versus Copcom? Exactly. You don't want to have that guy who's sitting there with like $30 worth of quarters who's like, yeah, I'll just take all commerce. Screw it. And so like the closest you get is like a guitar hero there. But on the other side, a lot of things that are popping up more are LAN centers.
Starting point is 00:09:16 And LAN centers are places that just have rows and rows and rows of high-end desktop PCs. Local area network. Exactly. Thank you. Local area network where players can come and pay for an hour amount of time or become a member of the place and they can just go with their own leisure and play games. Which is like olden times.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Because remember when Counter-Strike was popping in the beginning, you used to be like, yo, let's go to the fucking, let's go to the LAN cafe or whatever to play Counter-Strike because I didn't have a PC. Sure. And I definitely damn sure didn't have a PC that was worth a damn to play a video game. I still like going to a nice cyber cafe and just tuning into the web and just surfing away that's me yeah man you know that's how it goes the thing that brought gamestop down because just people it's just like
Starting point is 00:09:56 why we don't have blockbuster music anymore yeah i think it's digital downloads yeah yeah yeah pretty bad and also last time i walked into a GameStop, they were selling all this other bullshit. I'm like, what the fuck do I need a Funko Pop? I'm like, what the fuck is this? It became less actual video games and more video game related stuff. Right, right. It's like stuff that you physically cannot download. I remember when it used to be like all Prima guides in one corner.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Oh, hell yeah. This is where it's at. It's the real. The fountain of knowledge. Yeah, man. Cool. So Reggie, what's his name? Fils-Aimé.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Fils-Aimé. Fils-Aimé. Which is an anagram for Mario Luigi. So that's wild that he got replaced by Bowser in Nintendo. Max Van Sydow is trending because he passed on. Max Van Sydow. Sydow. Sydow.
Starting point is 00:10:44 The Sydow Jones. I think he was 90 years old. and he has been you know the seventh seal i first became familiar with his work when he was uh played he did a cameo in the bill and ted's adventure when they have to play death in twister and battleship right um and i remember being like oh what is this my mom was like he was in the seventh seal. You should watch that. And I tried watching that. I'm like, this is fucking bullshit. This sucks, mom. Mom, I'm 10 years old.
Starting point is 00:11:11 You think I'm going to get all this fucking, the meaning of half this shit? Fuck no. But I remember going to school and being like, you know, he's actually in the seventh seal. Right. Because that's how your mind works when you're a kid. And here's how my mind works as an adult. I just now realized that that was him and it was a reference to the seventh seal. So there's
Starting point is 00:11:28 that. And the three-eyed raven more recently in Game of Thrones. He was the priest from Exorcist. Right? Yeah. I don't know. Y'all got quiet on me. That's usually what you do when I fuck up.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I just want to let you... Yeah, okay. Whatever you say, dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, nailed it. Yeah, keep going with that. Nah, scream that one. I almost said he was the cop at Exorcist.
Starting point is 00:11:53 What if Exorcist had been a cop who comes and... Wait, so what do you think Exorcist is? Yeah, you know that woman's vomiting and that cop has to come in. And shoot her. The power of Christ compels you. Yeah. Damn, more than a hundred films it's wild when people like him and was it christopher lee you know i mean who got those like ridiculous careers yeah he's he's one of them i bet he he has like some badass secret in his past or something christopher lee was like a total
Starting point is 00:12:22 like war hero type i feel i feel like people that you know, who came of age at that time. Right. Generally have wild stories where they like charged a machine gun nest with their bare hands or something. I would believe that Christopher Lee was actually Saruman from Lord of the Rings before he was like, oh yeah, that was actually me. Right. I used to kick it with Tolkien. And finally, Coronavirus Ohio, one of many coronavirus related things that are trending. It's everywhere.
Starting point is 00:12:54 In addition to the Dow Jones. But Coronavirus Ohio is trending. I noticed something that I was just looking at a map of the United States that was broken out by state and a number of coronavirus cases. And it was like, Kentucky had one, Indiana had a couple. I was like, hmm, Ohio, maybe they're next. Sure enough, three cases today. So I think it goes along with our theory that it's not just our theory, but the idea that it's just where people are testing is the only thing that like if people start testing in a
Starting point is 00:13:30 place, that's when you're going to find out their coronavirus case. Right. Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine there's a state at this point where there isn't at least one case at some point. But I mean, hey, that's the nature of things when we're not prepared in any way uh yeah
Starting point is 00:13:46 so that is what is trending on this fine monday afternoon evening uh we hope you guys have a great uh night and we will be back tomorrow with another episode of the daily zeitgeist we'll shout out to reggie Fias. Amen. Amen. Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do.
