Starting point is 00:00:02 Rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling. Keep rolling, rolling, rolling. You know, that was the first draft of the limp biscuit song. And they were like, what if we took the G's out to make it sound more conversational? The amount of podcasts that start with Fred Dirst talk, beggars believe. On this podcast? On this show. This show in particular.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Like, this feed has so many Fred Durs cold open. It's what we do I mean I don't know man Who else are we supposed to talk about The other guy from Limp Biscuit with the weird contacts West Borland? Yeah I don't I don't
Starting point is 00:00:46 Sam Rivers For don't even know that guy's name What's the damn? I'm quickly forgetting everyone's name in Limp Biscuit I mean I've already I didn't know that there was Limp and Biscuit It's like Captain and Tiscuit it's like Captain and Danil.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Yeah. God, could you imagine being limp? That would be a tough one. Although if you just had like a cool way of walking, maybe you could pull it off. Fred Durst is an American rapper, singer,
Starting point is 00:01:14 songwriter, film director and actor, okay? So I don't want you just referring to him as the guy from Limp Biscuit. He might be the most Floridian human being on the planet.
Starting point is 00:01:28 He might be, yeah. Yeah, how did he escape being like Florida man, but he is the quintessential Florida man. He just rose above, you know? Someone's got to be the top Floridian. He rolled to the top. If we're taught, we have, did you see the
Starting point is 00:01:45 Carrie Underwood thing where she covered limpiscuit? No. I did not. That like happened like this week and she was awful and we hate her because she's weird and maga. But people have started calling her Kelly Clark, or was the Kelly Clarkson's Walloigi?
Starting point is 00:02:02 I don't know. I don't think she can't. No. Few can. I did not know that she... Doesn't she... Didn't she, like, the domestic violence lady? Or she'll, like, smash your shit up.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Didn't she have that song about smashing somebody's shit up? Yeah, that's her, right? But that's, like, country. And also... Yeah, but it's no fifth city. It's no fifth city. What's Fis City? Oh, it's a great tune by Loretta Lynn.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Oh, by Loretta Lynn. It's where I'm about to take Brian. We're having a country era again. You're about to take Brian to Fis City. I'm about to take Brian to Fist City with these two. It just sounds like you're going to fist him. That's what it sounds like. It's a fun song about Fisting.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches, there's a lot of suspense. Will they finally eat the veggies? Will the pesto survive the first bite? Will the lunchbox come home empty, half full, or come home at all? And will you finish episode 8 before you're done slicing the cucumbers? I survived and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them. I'm Elizabeth Smart and these are the Survivor Files. I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything. Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable. I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me.
Starting point is 00:04:03 I started feeling that that. There was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming. They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive. I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility. Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people and they

Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this week trend edition of their daily night, guys. It's production of IHeart Radio.
Starting point is 00:07:40 this is the episode where we tell you some of the stuff that was trending over the weekend. We also let you get to know us a little bit better. Miles is out on assignment. Typical. Typical. We're going to say out on assignment. He's getting his eye showered out weirdly. You know those eye showers that they have at labs?
Starting point is 00:08:08 He's just... Yeah. The assignment happens to have manifested that way. We're not sure exactly what medically is happening to him, but we're thrilled to be joined in our second seat by one of our favorite guest co-hosts, hilarious stand-up comedian, writer, actor, improviser, not above poisoning miles, but that couldn't be what happened this time. I mean, there's no way there's like eye poison.
Starting point is 00:08:37 It's polonium, Pahlavi, Gunale. Hello Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Very grew vibes Very grew of you In college I used to have a black cat In my dorm and like I had a swivel chair And every time I heard someone coming
Starting point is 00:08:55 Coming down the hallway And I knew that they were going to come into my Door room I waited and then I turned around slowly Rushed over to that In my moment Get in here Get in here
Starting point is 00:09:08 Why are you breathing so heavily as you slowly turn around with your black cat on your lap. The fog machine stopped working. We're also thrilled to be joined as always, but this time on mic by Brian the editor. Hello.
Starting point is 00:09:24 I'm on the mic this time. Editing, editing, editing, editing, editing, editing, editing, editing. What? Editing. Editing, Eddie. Come on. You want to justify cutting out Jack's ums and a
Starting point is 00:09:37 yes. Yes. We're thrilled to... Wait, I have so much appreciation because I'm editing our podcast, the millennial mood board one, and I'm like, I can see all the waveforms of all of our idiosyncrasies
Starting point is 00:09:52 in my head. Every um and awe and stutter. I know what I think like a good like maybe dozen people's ums and aas look like just on site. On site. It's beautiful. I love that.
Starting point is 00:10:06 the government will start paying you to because those are that's like a way to identify people they're like give us the wave forms of everybody's um yeah flog cameras track your gate i track your ums and as i was like that's jack get him get him yeah a lot of people don't know that my uh you know i obviously say uh they've probably heard that but you always cut out my owing which is the other thing that i say frequently throughout, but you do such a good job. Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, no. He's got this rare disorder where he turns into Jerry Lewis for some reason.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Right. Anyways, thank you for editing those out all the time. Stupid. Stupid. Yeah. My fucking idiot. Well, this is the episode where we tell you what was treading over the weekend was trending this Monday morning or Tuesday morning because it was a long weekend. But before we.
Starting point is 00:11:05 get to any of that. We do like to let our listeners get to know us a little bit better by telling them some things we think are underrated, some things we think are overrated, and I usually throw it up to Miles to decide if he wants to go first on the underrateds. Pahlavi, do you want to go first? Throw it up to Miles. Throw it up to Miles. I did point to the sky. underrated brushing your teeth because boy, did I have some dental work last week. Oh, no. It was bad. Yeah, and here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:11:48 It sneaks up on you, but apparently you can get cleanings every six months, even if you are mentally ill, and I suggest you take them. You can get cleanings every six months. You can. Listen to press fellow depressed folks. You know that thing at night where you can't brush you, can't brush your teeth, fucking do it. Just do it anyways.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Yeah. What about a pillow that you can just like rub your face into that like cleans your teeth? Yeah. Face down. It's like the makeup gun from the Simpsons. Exactly. It's got a built in toothbrush. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Oh man. Yeah, done to work. Why can't they? Never that fun. I can't. They're trying to go to Mars, but they haven't invented a candy that cleans your teeth. Like, or like a retainer that you put in that just cleans your teeth for.
Starting point is 00:12:34 where you like all night. Like, and then you wake up and your shit is sparkling. Like a dishwasher for your teeth? Yeah. Like, what the fuck? What the fuck are they doing? That's how I imagine people with veneers like pop their teeth out in the dishwasher. That's why they always look like that.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Why they're so bright. Are veneers made of some sort of non-stick material that makes... Yeah, they're covered in Teflon. I've never seen somebody with veneers that look like yellow or mossy or anything. They don't even try and make them look human. Yeah, they look like they're made of non-stick material, the same shit that, like, teflon pans are made of. The food just like bounces off.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Are my veneers going to be microwave safe? I do feel like, yeah, so I'm in the middle of a run of probably about a year and a half. I was on a, I was on a great path where I was, for the first time in maybe a decade, I started going back to the dentist. Oh, my God. we gotta do better. I know. I know.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And we, and I was back on the path of like every six months just going. Like I would just be like, you know, I got the notification a day ahead and I'd like cancel the meetings or something or, you know, like move stuff around just because I was like. I can't come to the birth of our child. I have to get my cleaning done. Look, babe. How many times did I tell you? Yes. And it is like they have not, at least the dentists that I go to.
Starting point is 00:14:03 to is not improved on what they used to get shit off your teeth. Like, it is like pick an axe. No, there's something wildly archaic about dentistry. Like, I had an extraction. Tunes with my fucking chisel here. It's like, what the fuck? Yeah, I went to get an extraction once. And the guy was describing, he had a bunch of fancy words for it,
Starting point is 00:14:29 but he was describing the process of, okay, like, if, if the little like the little scar tissue in there doesn't like scab over you can just come back and I'll scrape at it with a pointy stick and then we can start and I'm like what the fuck is
Starting point is 00:14:47 how is that your answer? How is that in the textbook? They definitely were like oh that pain you're feeling that's just me taking away your gums and I was like okay where is it sacrifice?
Starting point is 00:15:03 what's going on. Yeah. All right. Well, I'm sorry you went through that, but your teeth look wonderful. Yeah, and your gums just feel strong to me. Like, there's something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Yeah, they feel well-rooted. We're doing gum. Very long. Very long gums. Yeah. Some of the. That girl, she's long in the gums. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Okay, I got a couple underrated. One is just how bad Trump's far and poo must smell. I know this has been, this is a point that's been made before, but they keep dropping new videos on us. I can't imagine that he's shitting himself every time this happens, but like these videos of people who are standing behind him,
Starting point is 00:15:52 whose job it is to please him and to not react like he, like they're smelling the worst thing in the world. And they just like cannot do it. There's a video of J.D. Vance and some other guy behind him in the Oval Office. His twin? It looked like a twin to me. Like they're trying to clone him and failed. They're working on it. They're like halfway there. But they go from like staring absolutely into the middle distance, you know, marveling at their good luck at being this close to dear leader to it looks like they're being force choked. Like, you remember the first part?
Starting point is 00:16:33 It looks like choreography to me. It looked like they both went, whew! At the same time. In the opposite direction at the same time. I haven't seen it. It's so wild. It looked like it came with a sound effect,
Starting point is 00:16:47 the way they turned away from this man. It was so funny. Like a cartoon cloud of green gas, like you hit them right in the face. It was so funny. It's so wild. But, like, you remember. Remember that first force choking in Star Wars where it's like the person's like,
Starting point is 00:17:07 what is that? Oh, yeah. Like they seem like bewildered every time. Yeah, that's like talking shit. Yeah. Yeah. That's what it feels like to me. Here, Paul.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Literally talking shit. Yeah. We are literally talking shit. What I can't figure out is why they keep piling people up behind him. Is this like a torture thing? I think it's like one of those things where they have to disprove. it so they keep overcompensating. Right.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Oh, let me see. Crazy. I don't know how to do it. It's very sleek and nice. Because you can see their normal. That does look like J.D. Vance's clone. But like he's paler in a couple ways. The 3D print ran out of filament.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Because this one's a little shorter. You see how they both like look off in opposite directions? But J.D.'s face beforehand. It's like, ooh. And the other guy's like blinking. Like it hurts. Oh my God. Like his eyes are watering.
Starting point is 00:18:03 We've seen this before. I don't, I think this may be the first time that we've seen it. Corey, like two people doing it at the same time, you know, synchronized, uh,
Starting point is 00:18:13 force chokings. But like, it truly synchronized shit, sick of fancy. Yeah. Yeah. Brought to their knees. Like,
Starting point is 00:18:22 uh, it's really like a kind of amazing. What, what must be happening back there. Are they living their dreams right now? Like, why are they doing this? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Well, I think they, on the one hand, they are. They're like, God, I can't believe it. Like, I'm this close. He's so great. I get to sit next to this shitter. Yeah. And then it's like, fucking pow. Like, truly.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Okay, my other underrated is just using basic ass movies to cure writers block, apparently, because I was listening to a podcast about the creation of the song Iris that Gougu doll's song that is like, and I'll give up forever. You know that song? Oh, yeah. It was like the number one song on the radio. It's like has the record for the longest time that a song has ever been number one on the radio.
Starting point is 00:19:16 And like I was listening to two podcasts about the creation of Iris this weekend because I'm in a good place. And I watched like a reel about it too. It's like all over the internet right now. Yeah. The podcast Band Splane was talking about. the creation of it. But yeah, like, so the Gougu Dolls, like, songwriter, singer guy was...
Starting point is 00:19:38 Johnny... Johnny something. Was, like, blocked. Yeah, but he was blocked, like, the pressure, after he had that song name that was, like, a hit, the pressure was, like, too great to, like, come up with a follow-up hit. And he was like, you know, I can't write a song. And somebody reached out and was like, hey, do you...
Starting point is 00:20:00 Would you be... interest in writing a song for this like basic ass Nicholas Cage movie which is like you know literally the lyrics are the plot of a movie where Nicholas Cage plays an angel
Starting point is 00:20:15 named Seth Oh I was like And I'd give up the world for the national Declaration of the National Treasure Yeah But yeah He blasted through the writers back by just watching like a silly.
Starting point is 00:20:31 I just wonder if that hasn't been the answer. Like he's just the only person who's like guileless enough to just be like, yeah, I don't know. This is what this song's about. It's about, it's about this Nicholas Cage movie. Like, I wonder how many people wrote amazing love songs based on like Sleepless in Seattle, you know? Just Nick Cage movies. The Rock. So many of them are about the Rock.
Starting point is 00:20:55 It turns out. But anyways. Yeah. Don't be. ashamed to be moved by basic ass movies. It gave us one of our finest basic ass songs. Iris.
Starting point is 00:21:09 We love it. I do. I love it. Anything you think's underrated? Why is Brian Choate laughing right now? Did Trump just part around him? Yeah. It is like they took a massive hit of weed. Yeah. Hold on. Let me see. Let me see
Starting point is 00:21:24 if there's anything in my notes. You don't have to have one. I just didn't. Oh, underrated jeans with way too many zippers. Yeah, that's coming back. That's underrated? That's underrated. So like the ones that have like tiny little
Starting point is 00:21:40 zippers all over the, like only like my little zippers that don't actually go anywhere. Where it's like got so much buckles and like all the different little straps. Like that but more zippers. Setsing off the TSA like nobody's business. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:55 That's, I feel like those are there, those are coming back. keep hearing a lot about little tiny zippers where are you hearing a lot about that? There's so many questions on this show
Starting point is 00:22:09 Um he's like you know what? I'm gonna go back to being on camera yeah Jack asked me if I have something underrated and I said jeans were way too many
Starting point is 00:22:18 zippers way too many zippers. I know no further questions. Yeah. I mean it's pretty straightforward. Paula Vee, what do you think is overrated? We're going to
Starting point is 00:22:28 I'm just going to let that sit. I literally, okay, I had one and then it just flew out my fucking brain. Can you go first on this one? I'm thrilled to go first on this one because this is something that's really been building up for me. The phrase is semifinals and quarterfinals. In tournaments like the U.S. Open, like this is a sports take, Pahlavi, in your honor. But in tournaments of all sorts, when they say quarterfinals are,
Starting point is 00:22:58 semifinals. Just say how many people are left. I feel like I have to look it up every time they say it. Now that I've said this, I know that quarterfinals is eight and semifinals is four, but it's like quarter, I think my brain gets confused because quarter is four. Yeah, exactly. Thank you. And like, there are tournaments that just say the final 16, the final, the sweet 16, the elite eight,
Starting point is 00:23:28 the final four. It's like, I need it that basic. Okay. I don't want to hear about no quarterfinals, no semi-finals. The U.S. Open does that. MySpace top eight. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Exactly. The MySpace top eight would be great. You can get it sponsored by MySpace, I guess. Because they have so much money right now. They might be coming back, actually. There's, that's a story every 10 years. I did hear that they were coming back with MapQuest, but that might have been a joke.
Starting point is 00:23:58 MapQuest is MapQuest has been the number one downloaded app, like Map App because of the Mentorio. Trying to use it. I'm hoping that they get their shit together a little bit. Mapap.
Starting point is 00:24:13 But yeah, I Googled like, does semifinals always mean the final four and like halfway through I got, does semifinals come before quarter finals? So I'm not, I'm not the only one.
Starting point is 00:24:28 And, like, I was talking to somebody this weekend about it. And they were like, no, it's actually not that confusing. And they had it backwards. They thought quarterfinals was the final four. So. So Jack's Google search history is this question followed by, can I kill myself now? What is wrong with me? How do I end it all?
Starting point is 00:24:52 This is, yeah, I do have a feeling everyone's just going to be like, nobody has a problem with this. You're an idiot. but I don't know. I'm just saying people like numbers. Okay. I think of it. It's like fractions. Like there's four four quarters in a hole and semi, I always think of semi circle. So it's like half. So it's fewer. It's like, you know what I mean? Yeah. That's how I picture it in my head. That's a good point. Does that help or does that hurt your head? Semis circle. That, no, I think the semicircle thing actually fixed it for me because I was like semi is such a vague term, you know? But, Yeah, you're right. Semi does mathematically mean one half in some contexts.
Starting point is 00:25:34 So, all right. Quarter finals, four finals, eight teams. Never mind. I withdraw my overrated. But let me know if I'm a complete fucking idioter. If you agree, if you get confused by this every year when the U.S. Open insists on doing semifinals, quarterfinals. Paula, do you got anything?
Starting point is 00:25:53 You think so very good? I got it. Part of the reason I think I forgot it was in order to protect my brain. space. Uh-huh. I did watch the Reagan documentary, and this woman needs to go down. Okay. Wow.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Okay. You watched it. She's, I don't know. Reagon unto. She is my nemesis. Yeah. The Reagan story broke while you keep poisoning my elf. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:21 The Reagan story broke while you were on the show, like guest hosting for a week and a row. Yeah. Yeah. And we treated it like it was Watergate. And it is. And she needs to never be allowed to dance again. You know how in footloose were the town bands dancing?
Starting point is 00:26:39 You're going to do a one person footloose. A one person band no matter where she goes. She's not allowed to dance. And her husband, I think also inherits that title because of the way he unironically describes how beautiful she is and how her moves were so creative. I'm like, the most. insufferable people you know are in long-term relationships with each other. I'm like, I can't.
Starting point is 00:27:05 This, oh, it made me so mad. She's, she, like, the worst part is she worked hard. She was, like, going to the gym. And I'm like, and that's what you did. That's what you did. She made a spectacular miscalculation with the move choices. Like, the idea that she, because she didn't go up first. She saw what other people.
Starting point is 00:27:28 people were doing, and then she still decided to do her moves. She should have fake an injury. After she scored zero in the first two rounds. And then she was like, I'm going to be myself. Wait, that was a terrible accent. But afterwards, she was like, I can't believe women were hating on me. Like, I was so disappointed that women would be this way. And you know that tweet that's like, I don't support all women.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Some of you are dumb pitches or whatever. I was like, this has nothing. to do with you being a woman. This has you do with you being terrible at dancing and using it as an academic like objective to like experiment and do this. And then at the end
Starting point is 00:28:11 she's on a yacht and I'm like I hate this bitch. And like the whole time they're like proud of what she's done. Do you know, Richard Branson, spoiler, calls her up and is like, I thought what you did was great and they're all haters. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:27 And she's she's coming. back to dancing now. And so if it's between dancing and her, I think we should all just stop dancing. You know what I mean? Everybody listen to this woman. Not international. She's competing in like Taiwan. No more dancing. She's still competing. She's still doing it? She's a year and a year later, she's like, I'm going to dance again. And I'm like, you don't need to be brave. You don't need to. It's a great to treat it like and this is brave or are people like and this is a problem that she's continued to dance?
Starting point is 00:29:00 They interviewed, they interviewed some of her like break the B girls who didn't make it. And they were like, well, the conspiracy, they were shady. It was funny. They were like, she's got a unique. I can't do a fucking Australian. Ar-N-R-N-R. Okay, there we go. She's got a unique.
Starting point is 00:29:16 She's got a unique. She's got a unique. She's to calibrate with an R&R. It wouldn't, yeah, it wouldn't. It's not my story. Like, they were just like shitting on. her. But then they said the conspiracy about the competition being rigged or whatever was false. And then one of them at the end, I think they had to tell the story of like redemption.
Starting point is 00:29:35 So one of them at the end was like, you know, I expressed to her that it was bad, but like, you know, they were there was some resolution. But she recreates the dance moves. So she like has studied what she did on that stage and memorized it. Wow. So she's like, this was actually iconic and I stand by my decision. They're like, we represented Australia. Oh, that's what one of her ops, like the other bee girl who was like, she was terrible, was like, oh, she did this sprinkler. And I was like that, like, why did you, that was so offensive to me because that doesn't have any B girl roots. And.
Starting point is 00:30:12 That has me at a sixth grade dance roots being like, I need something to do with my hand and body to not dance, but also not be awkward. Yeah. But she's like, Reagan told me that it would start in Australia. And I was like, no, no. And then I went home and I looked it up and it had. And I'm like, I don't give a fuck where it started. It needs to be stopped. Like, I don't like, the whole point is she, she was academic about it and used that as an excuse to suck ass.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Right, right. And like the number of elite academics who do that, who like overstudy something until, like, it loses the art or they appropriate it. I'm like, fuck off. Anyways, I hate her and she's overrated, even though she got all that hate. She did get a lot of hate. I'm so mad.
Starting point is 00:31:02 And I'm like, I'm like, I'm going to continue. I'm going to continue. It's so interesting that they said, it was like they sent a basketball historian to the Olympics to play on a basket, like start at power forward for the U.S. basketball team.
Starting point is 00:31:15 It's like they sent Zach Lowe. Yeah. But also, the other thing is there were like, there was one. black person that I saw in all of the Australian breakdancing stuff. And so I'm like, there's like a systemic, I'm like, we're all the black people like, we're going to do our own tournament and you guys can have like your own little special shit whatever you're doing where Reagan wins.
Starting point is 00:31:36 You guys can, yeah, we're going to like actually do art. I'm like, where are all the people who started this? You know? Not in Australia, I would imagine. Yeah. Anything, Brian, do you think's overrated? Yeah, I'm going to go with jeans with no zippers, actually. I will say button-fly jeans are annoying.
Starting point is 00:32:02 They are annoying. Good call. Never been a fan of those. Good call, Brian. Yeah, I don't like them. There's just something about them. There's not enough zippers. I always associate them with, like, corduroy, too.
Starting point is 00:32:15 But, like, jeans. Buttonfly? Jeans. Yeah, I think corduroy, it's okay, but on jeans, it's like a little bit much. Yeah. Much. In an era in a time when the sprinkler was the main dance move. And buttonfly pants and corduroy, we're all popping.
Starting point is 00:32:36 The sprinkler. Poppin. Poppin. Also, why is that the most popular sprinkler? Why not this one where it waves back and forth? Yeah, the one that goes forward and backward. That one has more grace for sure. That's the one the kids run through for fun.
Starting point is 00:32:56 That's actually a ballet move. That's in the ballet world. You see that a lot like Black Swan. Pallavi's doing the one that like is many holes that just kind of waves back and forth. But you do look like just a more graceful one of those inflatable guys that are used car sales. Which I have been for Halloween. That's really good. You're actually pretty good at evoking the physicality of that guy.
Starting point is 00:33:23 So it makes sense. Arn-R. I studied them. I'm so bad at the fucking accent. She's like, I actually studied those. I was inspired by Pauline's Halloween costing. All right. Let's take a quick break.
Starting point is 00:33:40 And we'll be right back to talk about some news from over the weekend. We'll be right back. Ar-N-R. Oh, no. Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches, there's a lot of suspense. Will they finally eat the veggies? Will the pasto survive the first bite? Will the lunchbox come home empty, half full, or come home at all?
Starting point is 00:34:03 And will you finish episode 8 before you're done slicing the cucumbers? Get Bell Pure Fiber Internet with Craved Netflix and Disney Plus from $94 a month. Starting point is 00:34:37 I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything. Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinker. I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me. I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming. They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive. I'm going to have to look up this story. Emma says. From bestselling authors and your favorite book talk creators to the latest pop culture moments,
Starting point is 00:35:55 nothing is off the table. It's like if you can hide some real messages inside compelling characters, then that is a Trojan horse. Whether you're looking for literary deep dives, smart pop culture conversations, or a community of readers who love to think a little too much, you're in the right place. Listen to pro society on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. See you between the pages. On the new podcast, Solita, we share the messy reality of traveling alone as a woman. I can wait four hours for the next bus or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle.
Starting point is 00:36:33 I chose option B. I'm Julie Pinheiro, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first. I'm on a mission to reclaim the word Solita, trading the pity for possibility. Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like, you smiled at us. Not a lot of people smile around here. It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is and not the lies you're sold about it. It can be a time where you push your limits, change your mind, or wake up to a new version of yourself. So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your first trip, I hope you listen to Solita on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you're
Starting point is 00:37:19 at your podcasts. Hey, it's Bobby Bones. Join me and former NFL quarterback Matt Castle every Wednesday on our podcast, lots to say with me, Bobby Bones, and Matt Castle. We also bring in friends, they're mostly Matt's friends, who are current or former NFL players, some of the biggest names in music and entertainment, and then we have some really great conversations
Starting point is 00:37:40 that can pretty much go anywhere. The great Pac-Man Jones. After the game, the whole national task force for police officers was at the stadium. Like, hey, buddy, yeah, you, Adam. Come up. And one of my favorite segments we do is called situational awareness, where Bobby and I give each other real-life situations
Starting point is 00:37:57 and figure out what we'd actually do. You're in training camp, and the rookie quarterback has one good throwing session in front of the media. Suddenly, everybody online says he should start over you, week one. How do you handle this? You just go back out to practice the next day, and wait for him to mess up. Listen to lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:38:26 And we're back. Let's talk about the... So at the end of last week, the Trump administration contrived a yet another distracting bit of rage bait bullshit by unveiling an online arcade full of half-ass retro flash games. Some were relatively inoffensive. You had the Flappy Bird knockoff called Flappy Bill in which you control a bald eagle carrying a piece of legislation.
Starting point is 00:38:58 There was also... Wait, can I? Yes. I'm so ADHD. I'm so sorry. Everybody always comments about how I interrupt, and I'm like, yeah, they love that. Yeah, that's what we're here for. You're here to be interrupted.
Starting point is 00:39:13 This is so random, but I was on tour, like last year with Sammy O'Bade, and we were driving from Vancouver into the U.S. and we saw like literally two bald eagles just like live bald eagles were like fly or like on this lamp post and then flew off as we like entered the U.S. and the sun it was like dawning or whatever. Wow. And I was like this is what like Republicans picture as they like lose health care from one country
Starting point is 00:39:42 to another. Did you just turn to each other? Home of the brave, brother. Home of the brave. Home of the brave. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that moment has been dramatized into a shitty flash game hosted on an official dot-gov website,
Starting point is 00:39:59 as well as others like Supply Line is a take on punchout where you hit seed oils off a conveyor belt before they get sent to corrupt kids, presumably. So those are the basic ones. The really bad ones include Build the Wall, which is Tetris. Oh, my God. But you're building the border wall to keep out a, quote, zombie horde of migrants. I do just want to say, in the game, build the wall. The blocks don't disappear.
Starting point is 00:40:30 They just stack up, meaning that each game takes like 30 seconds. They're like, ah, there you go. You built the wall. And that's it. That's insane. Also, I'm sorry, but, like, the cruelty is the point is the, like, this is so fucked. Like, they're so evil. They're so evil, and I cannot get over it.
Starting point is 00:40:51 On purpose. Yeah, on purpose. They're doing fun little games to rub their evilness in our face the way that Trump rubs his power in the face of people directly behind them. Behind him. Rio Run is the worst, somehow worse than build the wall game. This is a game in which players are a cartoon Tom Homan deporting. Uniformly brown, quote, border hoppers. Wait, how did they, did they make Tom Homan, like, did they do his voice and stuff?
Starting point is 00:41:27 They made him like a little, he's just like a little eight-bit guy. Yeah, he's a little cute, eight-big guy. He's like, I don't sound like that. It's like administration babies instead of Muppet babies where it's just a little. Oh, my God. Yeah, I don't know if he sounds shit-faced in the game or not. like the villain from Men and Black. Right.
Starting point is 00:41:52 That's what he sounds like to me. Sugar water. Agar, your face is falling off. But the White House promoted this nightmare arcade by ripping off the boot up music and visuals from the Sega Genesis Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS game systems. But as of Monday, none of these companies, offered any public rebuke of their brands being co-opted to hype, you know, just mask off
Starting point is 00:42:24 eight-bit racism. The only company to speak up was the Tetris company who posted a message about how at Tetris, which I didn't know that was, like, I thought, I knew there was like somebody who invented Tetris, but I thought it was like Nintendo at this point. But they said, at Tetris, we believe in the power of connection and bringing people together, noting that they were not involved in the White House's game and take copyright infringement very seriously. Which do you, I was going to ask if the other companies like if they aren't saying anything for any type of regulatory or like beneficial thing from that's what that's it. Assuming they're not just like getting their you know, they're lawyering up and like getting ready to issue some sort of, you know, legal. challenge. I'm assuming that this is just like MapQuest where like we saw last week that
Starting point is 00:43:23 Google jumped to put changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America before it was even necessary because they know like I was speculating that they must have an entire division whose job it is to like figure out ways to please Donald Trump because it's going to be good for them in the long run and like all they care about is the bottom line. And so in that case, you only had a company like MapQuest and in this case, a company that I didn't know existed called the Tetris company. It's the, it's the Sumi for what economy where like only people with nothing to lose are willing to do shit. And I just, it's like there was a time during the first administration where I think people took heart in the idea that like corporations would
Starting point is 00:44:18 enforce the norms and like, you know, Nike was going to challenge racism. But when it became clear in this second administration that he was going to like punish you financially for not respecting his norms, it actually has become inverted. Like the more, those more powerful companies. People used to be like Google's like bigger than most world economies. And so like they'll push back on anything. And it's like, well, no, they'll actually, they are so big and so worth so much money and have so much stockholder value at risk that they're just not going to do shit because it could, you know, create problems for them on the stock market. Have you seen that, I think it's a new show audacity on Netflix?
Starting point is 00:45:11 No, I don't think so. It's this like, it's, it feels like high stress Silicon Valley. Like, it's, it's these, like, Silicon Valley people who are trying to do all this illegal shit to stay on top. And it's, uh, Billy, what's his name,
Starting point is 00:45:25 Billy Magnuson or whatever? The, the lead actor is, like, really good at playing one of these guys who's just like, I gotta fucking get ahead. You're fucking me. Like, that sort of thing. Like, with everyone. He's just trying to, like, make a deal and figure out how to take advantage of people and stuff. And I'm like, I feel like they're a lot more calm about it.
Starting point is 00:45:45 But I'm like, it feels very real of like how they just don't give a fuck about anything. And they're, it's all they care about is money. Like it just, it's, it's a good show. It's like, it's at Galifanakis, it's in it. And it's like, it's really, it's funny, but concerning, you know. Oh yeah. Billy Magnuson has great, uh, founder, IPO. face. He's amazing.
Starting point is 00:46:11 Yeah. He's really good at it. I don't know why people keep making those shows because people keep routinely taking the wrong lesson from them. That's fair. Sorry, satire doesn't work. Satire is my actual overrated. Stop making fucking satire. It's just fueling these fucking people. Well, as we'll talk about on tomorrow's episode, they're also making just straight up documentaries about them that seem to be a little, um, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:46:38 but like the Elon Musk one seems like it's going to be interesting. I thought you were talking about Elizabeth Holmes. Oh, I'm going to talk about that one. You guys are like, Elon Musk and I'm like, fucking Raygun. The real problem. Nobody's making attention. But it does, as long as companies are just like not willing to push back on
Starting point is 00:47:03 the corrupt system, like doesn't it just mean that the entire system is completely fucked. Like if you can't make any company stand for something that is that, you know, being against this administration is like a wildly
Starting point is 00:47:19 popular sentiment among the public. But it just like doesn't matter anymore. I think the fact that like our government or the American government does not give a fuck about like
Starting point is 00:47:35 anti-jointed trust or like regulating companies at all. It's like they want more of that. So they're not going to rock the boat if they're getting this free ride to just like screw literally everybody over. Everybody who, you know, can't afford it. It's like, why would they? Like they're incentivized to just let the shitty government be shitty so that they can make as much money as possible. So yes, we are fucked.
Starting point is 00:48:08 Yeah, I think all these, like, companies and, like, rich people and politicians, like, they don't give a shit about long term. Like, all they care about is short term. Like, that's how I view, like, bankruptcy and stuff. It's like, people just try to get as much as they can and get out. And then they worry about they don't, like, they don't care about, like, getting caught or whatever. It's all just, like, impulsive, trying to get as much money, like, hoard as much as possible in the moment. Because they don't give a shit about, like, climate change or their grandchildren or anything. Like, that, you know, otherwise they would. But I do think, I will say hopeful thing, I do see a lot of the American people like in these local elections and in with the DSA, like, make having momentum. I think that's where we have to put our hope and that's where we have to like, like kind of force their hand through all, like just the power of the people like we're trying to do. So it's just so wild that's the only thing. as like such a radical political stance to be like the DSA and it's just like what would if government was acting on behalf of people instead of corporations is all is social contract that
Starting point is 00:49:22 that is what socialism is what if the government was uh giving people yeah doing its job instead of you know rigging everything in favor of corporations and weapon bomb makers by prime example you look at fucking Steve Balmer. Like Steve Balmer fucked up really badly like 20, 25 years ago. And he should have, we should have never heard from this guy again. But he
Starting point is 00:49:50 was allowed to I guess not go to jail for all his antitrust shit at Microsoft. And then not only that he made even more money after that to the point where he was allowed to buy a team and do
Starting point is 00:50:06 all the shady shit that he wanted. without anybody checking him. And that is that is the point. That is the founding of the country. That is what the country always has been. Is rich white dudes doing what the fuck they want and creating a place where they can do more of what they want? They're insulated. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:26 If they gain enough power through manipulation and like stealing from other people, then they can like insulate themselves from any consequences. Yeah. And that's the whole point of the United States. in my opinion. That is what it's for. The subtext that people have been able to read into history for a long time. And when they read that into history,
Starting point is 00:50:48 they were called like cynical. And now it's just happening. No, I was called cynical and childish for years for pointing this out. And it's like, well, okay. Don't seem cynical now. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Let's take a quick break. Brian, I apologize. Jesus. No, no, no, no, no, no, you don't. my god this guy's so down in the dumps. Bitter as fuck. He is about to get become the first woman president and every all our problems are going to go away. Happy birthday to the future president.
Starting point is 00:51:25 Tweet of hers that's still up. Oh my God. Oh man. Let's take a quick break and we'll come back and talk about Trump's stupid hair and other stuff. There was a brief shot of Donald Trump
Starting point is 00:56:20 leaving Air Force One, I believe on his way to... If that was him and he wasn't in a catering truck. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. And they just like got his hair color completely wrong because he is now sporting a
Starting point is 00:56:36 wildly unconvincing shade of brown which for the first time. I don't think I've ever... Wait, I miss this. Yeah. So you can check it out. here. I just put it in the chat. It's much darker than usual. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:56:53 He's trying something. It does. So this came two days after he was asked if he wears a wig. The drip, man. I mean, literally, it's dripping onto his collar. It's dripping down to his face. The Giuliani. I went to the Peripelon. I asked for the Giuliani.
Starting point is 00:57:09 They scored an ink on my cybers. The four seasons hair salon. It does appear to be a point of acute insecurity for him, like his hair, obviously because he spends like two hours every morning doing whatever the fuck that is to it. But, you know, the fact that people were asking about asking him about whether he wears a wig two days before this and now he like comes out. To you and he's like, hey, what do we think we people, people feel in this? Oh, you don't think I have hair on top of my head here. Let me highlight that for you. So you can see it extra good.
Starting point is 00:57:44 I wonder if this logic would work. If you asked him, if he wears a diaper and then he's like, oh yeah, and he stops wearing a diaper and then the shit just runs down his leg. Every time. I don't think, I think he's amazingly like, kind of, like his
Starting point is 00:58:01 superpower is lack of shame around most things and that he stands to shitting his pants. Obviously, because he's like doing it in the Oval Office with cameras on him. Like, with people standing directly behind. I think he was one of those children that did it on purpose as soon as
Starting point is 00:58:17 his diaper was changed. Right. You think he's just doing it, like, as a sign of... It could be, like, a power move. Yeah, yeah. You still go to the bathroom like an idiot? Do you... I just shit wearing it right at.
Starting point is 00:58:33 And Marco Rubio's like, what do you mean? No, I don't smell anything. I don't smell anything. It smells great. It's actually really good. I actually really like the smell. I think we should make it spells this way everywhere.
Starting point is 00:58:46 We should make Cuba smell this way. God. And finally, Halloween the game is a new multiplayer survival game based on the Halloween film franchise. And it's generated a lot of controversy for reasons that have nothing to do with the fact that it's predicated on butcher knifing teens to death, which seems like where the controversy would come from. it's this the the game feels like a desperate attempt to try to turn in something before gta six that is like you know sort of like gta six light because here are a couple of the things that you're able to do because he's walking so slow yeah it's like slowed down gta six so one thing is that and this is
Starting point is 00:59:39 interesting so it's been banned in australia because smoking wheat helps players to see the location of Michael Myers in order to avoid being killed. That is so funny. Which I'm assuming. So that's why I'm still alive. Is that a play on like the paranoia of weed that you're like able to see it? I haven't seen. Something to do with like being high that would help you give you like.
Starting point is 01:00:04 Is that like it would give me an age? Well, the sexy teens, there's typically like, you know, you're at camp. Someone sneaks away to. smoke and then they get, you know, murder bludgeoned with something. It's never that, right? It's never a thing where you sneak away to smoke weed and like that's what saves
Starting point is 01:00:23 you, right? It's always that you sneak away to smoke weed and as a consequence Yeah. Well, no, because the horror movies punish you for doing something quote unquote wrong, either having sex or doing drugs or whatever. So that's how it typically goes in the movies. But I feel
Starting point is 01:00:40 like it would give a real life edge to someone who is who is being stalked by a giant murderer. It's yeah, they're like puritanical like America's puritanical
Starting point is 01:00:55 politics just made real with like because I think like a lot of Americans are born into this you know morality where it's like people secretly suspect like ah yeah we're all going to be sent to hell
Starting point is 01:01:11 or like murdered for having sex or doing drugs or like doing any of the things that are, you know, slightly fun. And, and, and the, and the, slasher movies are like playing on that.
Starting point is 01:01:23 They're like, yeah. And so people have sex and they get killed or people do drugs. So this, this does feel like a change, right? To be like, and drugs give you superpowers.
Starting point is 01:01:34 But wouldn't Michael Myers, like, he'd be, he'd be, running around, trying to, or like, walking around,
Starting point is 01:01:40 trying to find you. and he's like, that bush smells loud. Yeah. He walks over. Yeah. He slowly hacks it. Yeah. Huh.
Starting point is 01:01:49 Smells. There's a cloud of weed smelling smoke coming from behind that bush. There's coughing coming from behind that column. Yeah. Okay. I'm looking at the publishers for this game. One of them is known for these asymmetrical par style games. The other publisher is owned by Raphael Sadiq for some reason.
Starting point is 01:02:09 Oh, really? Wait. What? It's called Ilphonic Games and he's one of the owners. I did not know that. That's just a little aside. It's funny. Funny to me.
Starting point is 01:02:20 I was like, wait, what? Hell yeah, Raphael Sadiq. They're just playing the audio is just Tony, Tony, Tony. Feels good. That's what they smell to weed to. But the other much, much more problematic part of the game is that players who were given advanced copies prior to the September. 8th release date reported a mini game that allows players to have sex.
Starting point is 01:02:46 Oh, the hot coffee incident again. It's not particularly a graphic. It just shows a heart meter while you do mutton bat, uh, button mashing, mutton bashing. Mutton bashing. This motherfucker I hate sheep. That is crazy. Um, which is a crazy term for having sex. Button bashing.
Starting point is 01:03:08 Mutton bashing or button mashing. Um, and some people have pointed out, like a British term. Yeah, I want some Jamaican food now. Include a bunch of teenagers and 56 year old Samuel Loomis, who features the likeness of, uh, deceased actor Donald Pleasance. So the game allows Loomis, a 56 year old, like the guy to have to have to hook up with underage people. Um, which, oh, oh, my, it's, it's, it's accurate to the real world.
Starting point is 01:03:39 definitely accurate to the late 70s early 80s yeah yeah the developers outright removed the sex mini game in its entirety I can't believe this is still happening my brain immediately goes back to GTA 6 is coming out GTA 3 had a scene called
Starting point is 01:04:00 hot coffee that depicted sex and they were also forced to remove it from the game in a game where you murder prostitutes and all the stuff Like people really don't like sex in video game, like mainstream video games for some reason. It's like the 90s conversation all over again. Very odd. Like they're so puritanical about sex, but then they're fine with like violence.
Starting point is 01:04:23 56 year olds. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're fine with 56 year olds who shouldn't be seen in public. Well, fine. If you're not cool with that, we're not going to show this anyway. We're not going to show. We're not going to let you play this game at all. Then nobody gets to have sex.
Starting point is 01:04:36 Exactly. If the 56 year old can't have sex with teens. No one gets to have six. Trump administration three's new public policy. No, it's one of their flash games. You go to Epstein Island. That's right. Anyways,
Starting point is 01:04:51 we'll see if this, like, it does seem smart to, like, try and release a game that is, like, GTA6 kind of coded right before G, like, as everybody's so excited to play that game. But it does feel, they should have been a little bit more care.
Starting point is 01:05:09 careful here, probably. And yeah, they're not even allowed to release the game in Australia because it's because weed gives you superpowers. It's such a weird line. That's so weird. Because I mean, you have day before daylight, you have Texas Chains on Masker
Starting point is 01:05:25 game, you have Friday 13th game. They all play basically the same, but this one little thing has gotten it banned from a whole country. It's also crazy that they banned it from Australia when they haven't banned Reagan. And why I know.
Starting point is 01:05:40 I know. Thank you. This one simple trick, your doctor doesn't want you to know about that will allow you to see Michael Myers before your friends and it's just smoking weed. Starting point is 01:07:17 No, you can find me with a massive bag of weed hiding out from Michael Myers. Yeah. And that's about it. It's what I'm up to. Stoner characters in horror movies. I don't think they've ever done well. I think they usually get killed. There is.
Starting point is 01:07:34 There's like one or two where that's the bit is that the stoner survives. but I can't even remember the names of those movies. Oh, yeah. Maybe it is. Maybe it is an old tradition. Yeah. I know Cabin in the Woods had a stoner character. Yeah, it was something like that.
Starting point is 01:07:48 It was something like that. That movie was nuts. It was this self-aware kind of horror movie. Yeah. Yeah. All right. That's going to do it for this Tuesday morning. We are back tomorrow with a whole last episode of the show.
