Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the Biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white in print. It's bigger than a flag or mascot.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What happens when a professional football player's career ends and the applause fades and the screaming fans move on? I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. For some former NFL players, a new faith provides answers. You mix homesteading with guns and church. Voila! You got straightway. They try to save everybody. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Hello, the internet, and welcome to the Zydee Ducks. I'm Jack O'Brien, that that's miles gray and here's what's trending that gordon bombay yeah yeah is that a weed strain no but we say like shit's bomb like oh this is bomb and then it turned into bombay then turn to gordon bombay you're like it was gordon bombay yeah just like local slang you create His backstory was that he was a great hockey player who then gets pulled over for DUI. For DUI, yeah. And he brings such disgrace on his law firm
Starting point is 00:02:33 that he can somehow do community service to get the hockey team going again. And he's a piece of shit. I was actually watching the beginning of Mighty Ducks again. Yeah, he's a really unlikable protagonist. Yeah, I mean i get that he needs a redemption arc but i'm like oh gordon bombay i would be like yo get this man away from my fucking kids man this dude sucks yeah he's like an asshole anyway um anyways fuck gordon bombay fuck the Koch brothers. Just don't have the list. Let's talk about what's trending, such as, and therefore, Drew Barrymore is trending.
Starting point is 00:03:16 She was on the Today Show talking to Savannah Guthrie. I think as people do now, every celebrity is available for an interview. So they're checking in with people. Drew Barrymore had a very candid response to sort of talking about how she's dealing with being a parent and like business owner or whatever uh in the age of quar and she was basically saying like she's been sort of crying every day trying to like homeschool her kids the headline is kind of funny because it was almost like drew barrymore cries every day trying to homeschool her kids. The headline is kind of funny because it was almost like Drew Barrymore cries every day trying to homeschool kids. But really, the real piece was more about how overwhelming and how she realized how difficult it is to wear multiple hats now because the kids don't go to school. Having to do everything from her home is very different. So I can only imagine
Starting point is 00:04:00 the stress of teaching your children and wanting the best for your kids and then feeling like a moment we're like am i able to do this right now as i juggle 900 other things yeah my wife is a really great teacher she's doing an amazing job it is stressful as fuck what's your teaching style my teaching style is like i see i'm like more i'm too like goofy with them that they like just don't take it like literally sarah said to me uh literally my wife said to me the other day that uh they she was like see they don't take anything you say seriously because i was like trying to get them to do something. No one listens to a clown. No one takes orders from a joker. She's right.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah. So just a lot of laughing. And then... Little does she know how many people you educated with crack.com. That's right. Oh, yeah. The humor doesn't get through to people. Look at this.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Uh-huh. And then all that stuff turns out was made up. Yeah. She's like, yeah, stop telling our kids that rats can have 6,000 babies. It's not relevant to them right now. I got big points, though, because there was a book that we were reading that talked about a butterfly called The California Sister. And I was like, and your brother's your California brother.
Starting point is 00:05:22 And that stuck in his head. And then the next day's class was about butterflies. And he was like, California sister. And the teacher was like, what are you talking about? And then they looked it up. I was like, yeah, that's right. I taught him one thing that randomly came in handy. But yeah, teachers deserve more money than all of us combined.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Every person. Except bad teachers person every person who i mean if anything right this is all showing us what a living wage should look like and that no matter what job you do no matter what uh you know high skilled labor whatever the fuck these you know sort of the the language people use to try and devalue someone's labor like that we can begin to realign on what that means like what's the value of all of our work as people uh so that's really like that's what's going to be really interesting is as we come out of this and how on top hopefully on top of things we can be to try and affect like the good change uh that people need coming out of this but we'll see what that road looks like.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Cause it sounds like people just want to go right back to fucking January, 2020. Like it was nothing. Open it back up. That's a, that's another thing that's trending. There's some interesting pictures of people protesting to get their States back open.
Starting point is 00:06:38 They're, they're protesting in Michigan. They're protesting at the Ohio governor's house. There's a lot of MAGA a lot of uh just anger people who are furious there's some guy fox masks mixed in there um but they they are not observing social distancing so i don't know i'm just like okay well it's because you know there we were talking about like know, the beginning that a lot of polling showed that there was obviously like a partisan divide on how serious people took it. And now there's been added sort of analysis on top of that, looking at, like, cell phone use and GPS stuff, like data that the mobile phone data that people got their hands on and showed. on and showed like when they layered that on top of counties that went for trump there was like a direct relationship with how you know how like what the impact would be on their movement or
Starting point is 00:07:31 their normal state-of-day life like where a hillary clinton one district would go down about 70 people's movement went down by almost 70 in some places like a comparable uh trump one would go by like 50 something ah so still like i mean it still shows that there's definitely clearly it's like the only thing really separating the mentality is just what candidate you identify with yeah but maybe it's also that uh trump supporters are just the realest motherfuckers and you can't tell them what to do covered in the blood of christ dog what the fuck's gonna touch me? Not a fucking thing. I dare you.
Starting point is 00:08:07 That's true. That's also true. They have that extra level of protection. Yeah, absolutely. From Jesus' love. OBJ, friendly. The blood of Christ. Blood, blood.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Yeah. That he shed for us on the cross, Jack? Easter just happened. His love and his blood. Yep. Yeah, yeah. No, for sure you better get right before you get left for he double hockey sticks i mean i honestly could not have said it
Starting point is 00:08:33 better i don't think it would be physically possible to say it any better than that i miss people saying he double hockey sticks he double hockey sticks is so dumb. OBJ. Who's this OBJ? He a obstetrician? Gynecologist? No, he was your favorite president's vice president, right? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Odell Baines Johnson. Yeah. Odell Beckham Jr., the football player. I don't know. This has been trending, I guess, very highly. It's so odd. the nfl dr fauci i think recently today said sports could conceivably continue with empty stadiums now i don't know how much the nfl likes to hear that when you consider the amount of asses you get in the stadiums and what those game day revenues look like
Starting point is 00:09:18 but either way people would fucking rather have sports than not have sports. But as the NFL chugs along, there are rumors that he could be traded to the Vikings. Now, I'm not much of an NFL person. I've seen OBJ juggle a soccer ball, so I like that about him. I think he has a nice signature sneaker. And I like people from Minnesota. Our show in Minneapolis was very great, so I'll fuck with Vikings and just
Starting point is 00:09:45 the historical Vikings as well. Yeah. That's how I feel about it. Those are the things you know about this story. Have you ever seen the catch that he made? It was behind his head, the one hand. Have you seen him pulling a kickoff
Starting point is 00:10:01 out of the air with one hand? No. Send me some highlight tapes, everybody. Yeah, yeah, I will. I'm a highlight tape type NFL person where it's like, I didn't know about Lamar Jackson until someone was like, hey, you need to watch this tape
Starting point is 00:10:15 because I know you don't watch the games, but you appreciate athletic ability. And I'm like, oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. Anyways, he had a real down year. He played for the Cleveland Browns last year. Everyone heading into the season was like, ah, this is the Browns year.
Starting point is 00:10:31 People always say the Browns are always going to suck. Not anymore. They got OBJ and they got Baker Mayfield. And Baker Mayfield turns out not a good quarterback. Ah, God. And so there's not a good quarterback uh and so it's there's not a whole like you have to be the best like next level wide receiver to still be dominant with a shitty quarterback like there's like larry fitzgerald and uh deandre hopkins are the people who are capable of doing that,
Starting point is 00:11:05 and that's about it. OBJ was not there. He's moving on to the Vikings. Oh, and then wasn't he getting in trouble because he smacked the cop's ass? I feel like that was the last time we talked about him at that LSU game. I feel like all the stories that you hear about him being controversial boil down to he's fun. he's like a fun person to have at parties yeah because he was like okay don't give i get you're in a football locker room
Starting point is 00:11:31 celebrating the win but you don't have to give the sheriff the wild locker room butt pat even everyone's having a good time but yeah hey your honor if my only crime is having a good time yeah i think he's somebody who authority figures do not like. He really gets the boss hogs angry because he's got cool hair. And then finally, probably the biggest story happening right now, stimulus check. PNC is also trending because PNC Bank's entire website nationwide went down because everybody went to check if the stimulus check had uh landed in their checking account all at the same time and that happened to a couple other sort of not not like the big national banks but some of the i think u.s bank was one of them
Starting point is 00:12:21 which i guess that's a pretty big one a fifth third also went down when everybody went to their website oh man yeah but i i do know some people are getting their stimulus checks a shout out to them yeah and and unfortunately there's also a whole lot of checks that need to be uh have donald trump's signature on them so there's a hold up there too because he wants people to see fucking check show up with his signature on it yeah yeah it's from it's a check from donald trump it's from him it's not it's not all the taxpayer whatever fuck it yeah it's from donald trump maybe that'll maybe that will help people get over his awful awful everything he's he's really out here he's he's really doing it folks like just the balls the balls to be like no it's got to be it's got
Starting point is 00:13:08 to be from me there's never been a uh any any uh payment from the federal government that's ever had any uh politicians name on it but he demanded in these unprecedented times we need unprecedented credit given to Donald Trump. But as you say, he's got balls. The concept of balls only applies to people who have a sense of shame. You know what I mean? He just has no shame. So he's like, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:13:35 He's like, this is how the fuck I roll. I'm petty, insecure, and everything is determined by my ego. I actually don't do much thinking. I just react constantly. Turns out, don't do much thinking i just i just react constantly turns out don't do much thinking just just react the best his shame feeling is just broke off at some point in the late 70s uh well miles yeah it's been a pleasure uh talking to you on this day tomorrow is a very fun episode uh very good episode uh i'm looking forward to people hearing it. Way to sell it. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:14:08 We hope you guys are staying safe, washing your hands, not going to your governor's house to shout through the window with your Trump hat on. Stay safe, be kind to each other, and we'll be back tomorrow. We'll talk to you
Starting point is 00:14:24 guys then. Bye. Later. Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Can Kay trust her sister, or is history repeating itself? There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.
